Reviews for Freehand Miami
Review 1:Far from Deco Art District. This place is a nightclub on the weekend. Would not recommend because got drunk people partying in the room while I was trying to sleep.
Review 2:Swimming pool. Nice deco.
Review 3:Even though the place isn't expensive, you should always expect it to be clean. Floor are the only thing cleaned daily. I spent 2 weeks here and they never did the bath tub or change my sheet for example.
Review 4:If you're traveling alone or just want to meet new people, this is the right place and has the perfect atmosphere. Breakfast is always welcome anywhere I travel to
Review 5:The vibe in this hotel is great! We booked the private room, and we found it really good. It has a minimalist/hipster decor which we both liked. The bed was very comfortable. There is a small fridge in the room, which we found practical. They also provide 2 bathrobes and come to clean daily. Complimentary breakfast (cereals, toast, fruits) included. Great bar/lounge area.
Review 6:Maybe the only thing is the music plays very late passed midnight but hey, it is Miami.
Review 7:I liked everything! The most comfortable bed I have ever slept in at a hostel.
Review 8:The bathroom was unclean and the breakfast wasn't much to shout about.
Review 9:The hostel had a really nice vibe and I felt really comfortable in the female dorm. Overall I thought this was one of the better hostels and the restaurant was great. The staff were also really helpful. I do think it was overpriced compared to other places in the world but not compared to Miami prices
Review 10:Thought the rooms could have been slightly more maintained. We also struggled to get beach and/or bath towels each day.
Review 11:Loved the outdoor area and the staff.
Review 12:My boyfriend and I got louse bites. Our room is at the second floor which is near the pool, very noisy and it's also damp. The faucet was broken and it drained all the night! Hope somebody can fix it. That's why I cancelled my second night.
Review 13:I didn't like here a lot. Firstly, i had to wait for about an hour after check in time. Then, i saw cockroch at the aisle. The location is too far from Lincoln avenue and other restaurants. You should take a bus to go there but the price was quite expensive compare to other conditions.
Review 14:Breakfast was good but you should eat later. They gave you more food later and later so i felt betrayed
Review 15:It's very far located from downtown. And in the end of the week the prices are inreasing
Review 16:It's a very nice and cute hostel with a outside bar and helpful stuff. The beds are very comfortable.
Review 17:It's a great place to stay if your room is not on the first floor. It's very hard to get a sleep on the first floor because of the bar. The bar brings in lots of customers from outside just to use the bar and it gets very noisy.
Review 18:It's vey clean place and good breakfast in the morning
Review 19:Staff not 100% up to date with events not enough details or information on locations and surrounding areas, can be noisey at night if not willing to hang down stairs in the bar as it can be expensive and lots of people walking in and out all night
Review 20:Amazing location fun activities the salsa dancing is great fun and a cool patio and backyard
Review 21:Really do think twice if you would like to book this hotel/hostel. The room we had was really dirty with a lot of hairs in the shower; the floor was dirty as well. Further on, we had cockroaches in our room. If you consider to travel by car (funny idea in america, right?) - do not book this hotel: there is no garage or hotel parking lot. You need to place your car on public parking (if you find a free one); …. problem: the maximum stay is 3 hours - (3$per hour), so you need to feed the paying machine every 3 hours except for the free parking time from 3 to 9am. The next garage is miles away. We booked for two nights and wanted to cancel the second night after the first night experience - the cancellation policy was very rigid and only a partial reimbursement was possible.
Review 22:The entrance hall, thats all.
Review 23:It is not possible to open a window at all, not even a little bit. Espesially if you have roommates who never close the bathroom, the air in your room is amazing. No kitchen.
Review 24:it is nice, clean and beautiful. I think it has special atmosphere that I liked. Good brekfast, I was even surprised, there was fruts and oatmeal. The beach is very close, also pool area is good.
Review 25:On the whole the staff were lovely but there was just one guy on reception who could have been a little friendlier!
Review 26:Really nicely designed hostel, great amenities and food/ cocktails. Loved the room, didn't feel like a normal hostel at all.
Review 27:Overpriced. More you stay , more it gets expansive . Don't encourage this rip off. We had the feeling to be squeezed so that I left for another hostel with much better facilities and more modern. Old appliance, furniture etc. No real curtain. Outdated bathroom Feeling to walk in an old Movie back to the '50. Very small swimming pool but at least it exists. Arrogant staff Stay there if you want to meet other travellers or walk away
Review 28:Nice travellers. Cool garden . Very near a nice beach less crowdy than the heart of miami beach. Breakfast ok.
Review 29:Our faucet dripped loudly and constantly. The conjoining door between us and our neighbours' room lead to us hearing everything they were doing loudly around the clock (and no doubt vice versa too). Beach towels ran out one day. No bikes were available for rent the entire time.
Review 30:Most of the staff were really great. The amenities were curated. The room was clean and spacious. We loved the attached bar and restaurant and ate and drank at both daily. Internet was reliable.
Review 31:A little too noisy if it's not what you are looking for
Review 32:I liked the position, the staff and the very young and cool environment. It is perfect for either partying or just because it is very close to the beach (they also offer clean towels to go to the beach that is reachable walking 3 minutes). The wonderful terrace with the pool and the WiFi.
Review 33:2nd stay here, it's great value option if you're on a budget but still want to be near all the action of south beach. Dorms are clean, beds comfortable. Pool area/bar and restaurant have such a nice vibe and a great place to meet people. Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful
Review 34:Nothing.
Review 35:I was there on Business, and While I wanted to experience Hostel life, I was skeptical of staying here, since I was on Business. Rest assured, it was one of the best trips I had. Amazing roommates, who were extremely courteous, the pool area was always buzzing even at 2 am with people. All very friendly and looking to meet and have a good time. The Hotel Staff is amazing, and extremely friendly. They actually make an extra effort to befriend you.
Review 36:Not exactly near the interesting tourism sections of South Beach Staff are functional and will help you check-in/out but nothing more. No advice/knowledge on attractions or transportation. I found my slippers and USB cable (both left on bed) missing and bed made to prepare for next occupant. But I have already paid and was going to stay for another 2 more nights. Staff were not helpful in resolving the missing items and said there was nothing they can do because housekeeping has not replied their queries.
Review 37:Comfortable beds and clean environment
Review 38:Unhelpful staff who can only check-in/check-out staff... but nothing else. Unwilling/unable to provide further information to enquiries about attractions or transportation. Locker is only big enough to put a small bagpack... hence I left my big luggage outside in a lock. On my bed, I left my USB charging chord and a pair of slippers but I have locked up all my valuables in the locker before I left the room. To my horror, my bed was made and stuff missing when I returned. I had no slippers and was unable to charge my phone, so I had to borrow my roommate's charger instead. Staff were uninterested to help because they say there is nothing they can do. They have contacted housekeeping but no reply for me yet.
Review 39:Comfortable bed, clean environment near a supermarket.
Review 40:The noise at night since there's a bar inside the hotel. The music will make you awake until 3am. Avoid this if you need a good night quiet sleep.
Review 41:Everything is fine
Review 42:The plumbing is said to be original which means it's old. This made it difficult to get a steady flow of water and a consistent temperature plus the taps dripped constantly making it difficult to sleep if sounds like that irritate you.
Review 43:The staff are friendly and the property is in a good location for transport links, going to the beach and there is a store around the corner. The rooms are cleaned every day and the beds are comfortable. There are also lockers for keeping your valuables safe.
Review 44:The cleaning and bar staff were quite rude but that's it.
Review 45:The location is perfect for the beach/ runs along the board walk. The staff on reception and the doormen were so friendly and helpful and the rooms were exceptional - I stayed in a 8 bed female dorm which had TWO bathrooms in it!!
Review 46:The dim lighting. Dark in the room; dark in the lobby. The light in my bunk was broken. There was no place to read.
Review 47:The breakfast, the courtyard, meeting a couple great roommates
Review 48:Great Staff. Super friendly, they know the city well. Great location. Very close to public transportation... I didn't give it a perfect score for cleanliness because the pool wasn't looking too good. But otherwise the room was pristine and
Review 49:Nothing. We had a great stay
Review 50:Everything about Miami Beach and Freehand begs you to enjoy being alive. The area has a latin, international vibe, with the best people watching imaginable - old, young, mucho muscle guys, glamorous models, international tourists, hipsters and hippies, multi-ethic, and then there's the old cuban guys with their t-shirts pulled up over their bellies holding Chihuahuas and talking politics at the corner. It's current and hip, but not tragically so - it's the real deal. The location is great, two blocks from the beach. We swam a lot. THE nicest water, very Caribbean. Good internet. Freehands is an awesome hybrid of a hostel/hotel and it made our trip! My husband and I like to talk to people of all ages and backgrounds so we tend to seek out more interesting places to stay than your average hotel. What I like about Freehand is that it reminds me of the hotel/hostels in Iceland. You can pick how communal you want to be but there is so much opportunity to connect and learn.
Review 51:Great team of employees, great room, fantastic location, just awesome terrace where I could have worked, chilled out, drunk beer, swimming pool! Great bar, restaurant, organized events and... parties! One of the best burgers I have eaten in the USA. To the beach- 3 minutes. To the financial district? 10 minutes by taxi. I was there alone, I met so many nice people. I was working there and had, I think- one of the best fun times in my life. I will always recommend it!
Review 52:The laid-back athmosphere and gorgeous restaurant. One of the best I have visited!
Review 53:If you like this kind of travel/accomadatin (laidback, easy) Freehand Miami is adorable!!
Review 54:Staff were slow. Waited a very long time to get served drinks towels food at the restaurant and to answer questions at the front desk. One front desk clerk was particularly rude. No check in before 3 was hard we had to leave our bags and were kind of stranded for hrs. Shower didn't work took 4 hrs to fix and a complaint to the manager about the rude female desk clerk before it finally was addressed. Manager was very nice. Hours of the restaurant cafe were very odd. Clueless hostess. They had shut down for weddings and didn't put a sign up. Great they have functions there but nicer if you inform the guests. City is struggling with flooding so the streets at round the freehand and flooded on and off throughout the day
Review 55:Apartment , pool cocktails, location is right near the beach. No bugs clean nice gardens. Best deal for the money in south beach
Review 56:No refreshments available before 2pm sometimes 4pm. Got overcharged by $150 which was never explained and made stay very costly
Review 57:All guests are friendly good place to meet lots of people lots of solo travellers too
Review 58:The hotel description said that there was parking spots available, butit's street parking and paid from 8am to 6pm. And it's terribleto find a free spot... Once I had to circle the block for two hours. Atleast is cheaper then parking in South Miami Beach.
Review 59:Very well located, room is well built and organized, and the staffis helpfull.
Review 60:-Drinks inside were quite expensive, even for Miami. Surely not for the backpacker's pocket. -The tap leaked and was very noisy.
Review 61:-If you are a backpacker there were a lot of new people to meet -Close to the ocean! -You can go to subway for a breakfast, it's super close -bus station to downtown are just across the street (less than 30m/100yards).
Review 62:Rain the entire week. had nothing to do. Their were NO t.v. in the rooms, unless you booked solo. Their, wasn't even a t.v. in the lodge / sitting area... Breakfast, went really fast.. make sure your up before 9 a.m. so you can eat.. . Coffee. Juice, cold cereal, toast, bananas and Apple's. Nothing fancy....
Review 63:The price was right.
Review 64:The fact that they never had beach towels at any time.
Review 65:It is a diamond in the ruff! The staff was friendly, atmosphere was homely and warm, and the guest were friendly. The beds were very comfortable and roomy.
Review 66:Why does the kitchen close at 10pm? It is directly next to the outside bar so it cannot be a noise issue. I think they want to make sure you do not bring booze in and drink it outside. Then just say so... if you want to grab sometihin out of the fridge, no can do...
Review 67:It feels like a luxury hostel. Beds are actually comfortable (a first...) AND perfect for a hostel experience with private storage (sort of), power, lights, etc...
Review 68:We did not like that the pictures depicted were about 15 years old. Thebathroom had bugs and there was a strong mold ordor. Elevator stunk sobad that we chose to use the stairs and the staffs response was that itwas old. I'm sorry being old does not omit being cleaned. Basicallyif we could of seen the room first we would of never clicked on thishotel. Beware!
Review 69:That we Were "upgraded" to a bugalow that made our stay a bitmore toleratable
Review 70:The kitchen closes at 10pm. If you want to drink drinks that arent from the restaurant (which is a little pricey), you have to do it in a designated corner, and they kick you out at 11pm. For a hostel, that's really not cool.
Review 71:The pool and outdoor area is amazing. The beds are super comfortable.
Review 72:This place was absolutely amazing, would reccommend this place a thousand times over. One of the most beautifully arranged hostel. Absolutely insane, everyone was so friendly, staff and visitors. Loved it som much
Review 73:I had a room next to the bar. They say quite hour is at 11pm but the bar keeps going until 2:30am-3:30am so it was very hard to get some sleep. When booking as for a room away from the bar and pool area.
Review 74:I loved the rooms! They looked very nice and not your typical hostel feel. They were more like shared hotel rooms.
Review 75:Beds are not so comfortable and parking is horrible, because there are only public parking slots with a 3 hour limit between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Review 76:This accomodation is located very central but you have to walk a little to major attractions of Miami Beach like shopping or Ocean Drive. The price is excellent and the pool and the area arround is very nice.
Review 77:There should be poolside furniture reserved for guest...other than that...everuthing great.
Review 78:Great atmosphere, one of the coolest pools in Miami to hang out,m during day and nighttime. If you dont like people, it´s not your place. Excellent to mingle and get to know new people.
Review 79:maybe the distance to center but not a big deal dont expect too much from the breakfast but ok
Review 80:such a so special place. the atmosphere rulezzz the patio is lovely
Review 81:Staff unpleasant , unfriendly , They made me change room few times which was not expected and brought chaos in the days plans since had to check out by 11am and only check in by 3pm. Staff would not care to make it better No Thanks.
Review 82:The only thing that was missing was wash cloths in the bathroom.
Review 83:Great atmosphere, the courtyard turns into the bar area at night and it's a great way to meet people.
Review 84:Staff unpleasant , unfriendly , spontaneoud change of room not ready as promessed at 15;00 although they knew they put me in a stupid situatio since I had to replan the day not doing what I planed, namely going to the rental company for a car rental 3 hours after plan
Review 85:This establishment classes itself as a hotel/hostel. It is NOT a hotel in any sense of the word! Avoid if you want to sleep and not be disturbed by paper thin (no exaggeration) walls, drunken people till 4am, staff that couldn't care less (unless you're a party animal) and a place that reeked of being a cheap place to hook up.
Review 86:The fact I could leave and only had one night there.
Review 87:I loved the bohemian atmosphere of the hotel, books available to read, a nice bar and most of all the hall which is a receptive space for whatever reason to hang out and the internal court yard, very young fresh and picturesque. A plus for not using chlorine in the pool (salt water) however the water was dirty. A lot of people in the water at any time. The rooms and the building itself are old, the wood present a smell of salt water and sweat everywhere especially in the elevator. The bathroom was leaking, but functional. AC was stuck at a temperature and I had to ask for assistance to change it. The staff at the reception was not really helpful but courteous anyway. No parking!!!! If you rent a car this hotel will give you headaches. The breakfast was basic, but at least provided. Overall I liked the place, beach is really close, however staying with a child I felt out of place and music was loud, youngsters trying to have fun didn't make it easier.
Review 88:I really liked their bunk beds, you had a sense of privacy and very comfortable mattress. The bar had amazing craft cocktails, they were pricey but delicious and delivered by an awesome bar staff.
Review 89:No parking (I spent almost two hours circling around); the place smellson pot; unsafe for children (my wife and my 15 year daughter went for adrink, and got harassed by some young adults who barely spoke English). The place can best be described as a third world slum. Parents--avoidthis place if you wish well upon your children!!
Review 90:Nothing
Review 91:Was very noisy on a Saturday night - I'm not one to usually complain about noise, but it seemed as if it could have been coming from the other rooms and not just the street outside.
Review 92:Lovely room, television was great, really relaxed vibe. Would probably stay more towards the centre of South Beach next time but for the money it was perfect.
Review 93:No solo travellers. The bar was very expensive $7 for a 330cl beer. The food was also very expensive for what you got. The free brekfast could have been better. The location was 2 miles north of the main south beach strip.
Review 94:For a dorm room it was pretty nice. Good beds each with a plug socket. Shower was clean. The outside bar and pool were nice, but obviously not aimed at backpackers.
Review 95:Location was awesome, loves the lounge// poolside. Restaurant was AMAZING, please everyone order the daily catch. My bestfriend and I almost cried while eating it was so good. Super trendy rooms, great staff. Definitely will stay here again when back in Miami.
Review 96:We had four-people room which was overlooking the pool and bar. Unfortunately it was very noisy as the music at the pool was playing until 3 am. So if you want to get good night sleep choose another place.
Review 97:For the price, this hostel is a good choice. The breakfast was basic with choice of pastries, tea and coffee. The bathroom fixtures can be described as dated but they were functional.
Review 98:We arrived around one in the afternoon and were told that wecouldn't check in yet. Parking was non-existent. It took us over anhour to park, but had to pay as it was a public lot. When we wereallowed to finally check in, we went to the room and the bed smelledlike urine. There were stains on the chairs. There were no towels, soap, toilet paper, etc. The bathroom itself was in awful shape. The showerhead and the knobs in the tub were falling off. Caulking was peelingfrom around the outside of the tub. From inside the room, you could heareverything going on outside (noise from the bar, hallways, peopleyelling, etc). In the lobby, anytime an outside door was opened, a verystrong odor of marijuana came in. This hotel did not come close tomeeting our standards for cleanliness or convenience. As soon as wechecked in and saw the room, we immediately checked right back out. Donot stay here.
Review 99:The only bad thing I can say is the location. Most of the things you want to see, begin on 10th street, and the hotel is off 28th. However, there is a bus stop right across from the hostel entrance. If you take the "S" bus it will take you to the popular areas for only a quarter!
Review 100:The hostel is exactly as advertised. The beds are very comfortable and cleaned everyday. I stayed in an 8-bed room and had all the space I need. Half the time, only 4 bed were occupied. The WiFi is blazing fast and works everywhere! There is a subway, small bar, and liquor across the street on the backside of the hotel. The Broken Shaker is a nice club and bar as well. Overall well above average hostel.
Review 101:I loved gonezalus the front desk guy he was amazing and mad me felt right at home, his service was phenomenal as soon i return home to the Bahamas I'm definitely bringing my friends within a few weeks
Review 102:I like here because the staff are very helpful, the room is clean, the bed is comfortable, the pool is nice, the location is convenient and the cocktail is super tasty
Review 103:Parking is very hard in this area Nothing interesting close to the hostel Service wasn't so good
Review 104:Beautiful hostel and cosy pool area Very good food
Review 105:A lot of stairs all over the garden (esp. if your room is in a guest house) and it's hard to carry your heavy laguage even if it's on a rolls. Nobody helped me. I lost an 1h. waiting my chek in, so I've checked later at 4pm and missed swiming in ocean. Nobody say sorry about that or gave a discount.
Review 106:Fast internet.
Review 107:Wi-Fi and breakfast can be improved with many options rather than only cereals, apple and banana and etc.
Review 108:Staff, Environment, Shake Bar and many other things.
Review 109:I loved the super social atmosphere there were so many people from all over the world there. Most of the time hanging back at a hotel is lonely and boring this was totally different and made for a great week.
Review 110:Beautiful interior design and very old magazines left in my room were fascinating. Clean environment, smiling and friendly stuff, location, and the bar just rocks! Go for it guys! Get this room now!
Review 111:Wasn't so clean No blanket ( room was so cold because of AC and some roommates didn't want to turn it off and i didn't have blanket to cover myself just a sheet
Review 112:Location Nice staff Toilets in room Cheap
Review 113:The bathroom was rather small. The restaurant they have on site is overpriced and the food is not that good.
Review 114:The room was clean. The hotel is located 5 min away from the beach. Also the pool and bar is a nice place where you can hang out surrounded by a lot of tropical plants.
Review 115:My room smelled awful and the cleanliness of the place is so so. Neighbors were loud until late. The crowd is weird.
Review 116:The area is good- close to the beach
Review 117:The réception staff The Room cleaning The Music at the pool (Day & night) The breakfast The Food and beverge prices The cocktails are not the best in Miami
Review 118:The situation of the hostel Pool staff The pool (Day & Night) The rooms
Review 119:That I couldn't stay there for the rest of my life.
Review 120:Not only was this the best hostel I've ever stayed at, it was also better than any hotel I've ever stayed in! The pool area is beautiful, the staff is really friendly and cool, the drinks and foods are out of this world, there's a really laid back stray cat to pet, nice street art style murals, free books, board games, beach yoga, the dorm rooms are super spacious, one block from the beach!
Review 121:The staff had an attitude, they acted like they were doing us a favor by putting out white bread for breakfast, the ignored the alarm that went off for hours on a side door, and it was extremely overpriced. A fun getaway to South Beach was met with disappointment :(
Review 122:Imagine combining an Anthopologie store with a bed and breakfast
Review 123:Late booking and delays, also early check-out
Review 124:The hostel has a nice garden, pool and a bar... very friendly staff, clean and served breakfast, proximity to the beach
Review 125:the showers made me want to vomit. They are clogged and fill up instantly. I asked around and other ppl had the same issue. It got to the point that I was putting soap on my body before I got in to minimize the time.
Review 126:It was a hip location. They hosted fun pool parties everyday I was there. The beds were also nicer than I expected.
Review 127:* We had one of the 'quieter' rooms on first floor, but something was rattling all night above us. We managed to fall asleep, but woke up from teenagers screaming and guy hitting/smacking his girlfriend loudly few times. Combined with paper thin walls, rattling sound and people watching TV next door it was a challenge to go back to sleep again. * Do not expect to find parking easily! There's none near hostel. * Some guys were meeting manager because they have found box of old dirty clothes in their room. * Manager refused to cancel and refund our remaining nights, but we left anyway.
Review 128:I enjoyed the position, close to all the attractions of Miami Beach. The hostel is an "happening place" in itself with a trendy crowd hanging around its pool on weekends as well as on week days and enjoying a delicious cocktail from the Broken Shaker.
Review 129:Very smelly room turned out the AC was growing it's own life forms full of mould which at least we did get maintanance to clean out. Leaky bathroom so best to put the bath mat outside the bathroom door... The state of the pool posed a genuine health risk so best to pass on that one. If it weren't for the truely staggering price for the quality these things wouldn't have bothered us!
Review 130:If you are after a full blown spring break experience the freehand has a very cheap bar open to all hours of the morning. However this does come at the price of noise pollution and you'll hear all those bottles crashing into the bin lorries at 6am the next day right outside your window. Full of friendly and interesting travellers though.
Review 131:The loud room was a nightmare of noise. Also, a lot more can be done in terms of creating a welcoming atmosphere during the daytime. No one was really interacting by the pool during the day and the pool deck by day looks pretty dingy. It would be fun to have some day activities on the pool deck - pool games or drinking games or something ! Or organized beach picnics or activities--- Or organized walking tours since the miami fun is all nearby.
Review 132:The location is absolutely amazing. One block from a beautiful beautiful beach. It's across the street from a little grocery store and a Subway sandwich shop so very convenient. Bus on the corner. Sleeping wise - My first night I was in a room on the bar side - the second night I was in a quiet room on the street side of the hostel. It was like two different places !! The quiet room was awesome, quiet and easy to sleep, etc. The loud room had comfy beds but the music and noise was going all night. The rooms overall are clean and comfortable though. The bar is pretty awesome at night.
