Reviews for Best Western Sandman
Review 1:Mt personal preference is not a motel but it was extremely convenient with pouring rain and suitcases left on our car
Review 2:Older basic"motel" with nice upgrades to modernize. Very clean!* Ample breakfasts nd friendly staff
Review 3:My reservation was wrong, the staff at the desk was rude, our room was not ready on time and we were made to sit in the lobby for almost 2 hrs waiting. My children had to dig through their suitcases then change tier clothes in the pool bathroom so we would not be late for the event that we came into town for. Then the second night we were unable to get into our room because ALL 3 of our room keys spontaneously wouldn't work. My children had to wait in the cold while I walked to the office to get them fixed. We also were not given blankets and had to specifically request them. I was ignored everytime I walked into the office and was never apologized to for any of the issues.
Review 4:The breakfast was great and the staff working the breakfast was nice. The pool was clean as was the room.
Review 5:My rate changes all the time. I have been going to the same place for five years now. This year cost me a lot more.I also had another couple get a room. Kinda disappointed plus I had to look for a cheaper rate online and still didn't get the price I was quoted for even though I called main desk. I was told there were a lot of rooms available but when we checked in there was still another issue on getting our rooms next to each other.I was told over the phone by maintain desk our rooms were set up and I had recieved our room # were already given to me.
Review 6:I like it because of the water front location small walk to old town Sacramento.
Review 7:Toilet was not attached to floor, would.not flush. Price was raised when I showed up. I should be refunded. Left at 1:30 in the morning due to toilet.
Review 8:Old building, thin walls, could hear everything going on in surrounding rooms and hallway. Smokers stood outside room doors smoking, smoke smell lingered in hallway and permeated non-smoking rooms. Back of building where our room was located didn't seem very safe at night. Was overpriced for what it is.
Review 9:Convenient location right off freeway. Close to gas/convenience store and Mexican restaurant. Right on trail along river. Fixtures and furnishings had been updated. Pool and hot tub.
Review 10:Limited breakfast items.
Review 11:Very helpful staff. Nice quiet room but had to go back to the office since the first room assigned was not nice or quiet. Great location to get into downtown Sacramento very easily and to Old Town.
Review 12:This is mainly a trucker stop but this is not mentioned anywhere on their advertising. As such, this really is not suitable for families. When the toilet blocked up, we were initially handed a plunger but this was soon found to be unworkable and we were moved to another room (where 3 people were required to sleep in one king bed). There was an odur in the carpark which i think was coming from the area where pets are permitted to conduct their business. Based on this we decided to skip breakfast so i can't comment on what it was like (we didn't feel like sharing the breakfast room with truckers).
Review 13:The fact we were moved to another room when the toilet blocked up after first use.
Review 14:I didn't have time to walk along the river path nearby, I think that might have been nice, but otherwise, not a very pleasant part of town.
Review 15:Friendly staff and a clean, spacious room.
Review 16:The staff was very friendly and the location was great. After having a problem at a nearby hotel, they helped us to get a room on short notice and treated us very well.
Review 17:The outside of the motel is very dated. People would be surprised to see how good the rooms are
Review 18:Excellent location, staff very helpful, room very well outfitted. All was very clean and operational, reasonably priced
Review 19:breakfast was horrible! egg omelets w/cheese and sausages that looked like they were boiled, they were gross! advertisement said boiled eggs - those would have been a better choice. waffles/ bread/cereal/fruit selection was ok. the security gate to walking path (near river) was non-operable during our entire stay, making getting to the riverwalk very inconvenient stayed at a lot of other places, including other best westerns and this one seemed over priced.
Review 20:the staff was good, everyone pretty friendly
Review 21:My only negative is that my husband said the pillows were too stiff. Other than that it was a pleasant stay.
Review 22:The staff was pleasant and the room was a great value. Will come back.
Review 23:Carpet in room had small tear. Suggest changing floor covering to laminate.
Review 24:Great location for travelers with dogs. Especially liked the privacy and security fence between river front and property.
Review 25:The A/C unit was old and placed near our heads. The tub did not drain when we showered and we were wading in three inches of water. Asked for a street level handicapped unit but got one that was upstairs.
Review 26:The location was ideal!
Review 27:I picked a smoking room and was pleased to find two ashtrays in my room so i didn't have to worry about dropping ashes on the floor between the bed and the bathroom. The room was kept clean :)
Review 28:A bit out of the way!
Review 29:Lovely big room with everything you would need. Good choice at breakfast. Restaurant on site which served excellent mexican food.
Review 30:I liked how clean the rooms were and how close we were to Old Town Sacramento. There's also a Mexican restaurant across the street if driving around to look for a place is not ideal for you.
Review 31:Nothing
Review 32:House keeping is kind and courtious and doesn't bug you if your do not disturb sign is on door. Also was able to get towels and bedding anytime if failed to get room cleaned. Also loved that had special area for pets with poop pick up bags in stalk. Not to mention access to the river!
Review 33:- Thin walls, bring earplugs for a good night sleep.
Review 34:- A 10-15 minute walk to Old Town Sacramento along the river. - Free parking in front of the hotel. - Good breakfast buffet, well maintained by staff during breakfast hours! - Very clean room!
Review 35:I was very disappointed in the free shuttle. It is a 'limited' shuttle. It was not running either time I needed to go to or come from the airport. While the bed was fine, the pillows were just terrible!
Review 36:The staff was friendly and accommodating.
Review 37:Giving a copy of my red card(emergency wildfire fighter) checking in and then being required to fill out a tax exempt card the next morning while trying to get to the airport
Review 38:Comfortable bed
Review 39:No early check in as requested. Wasn't offered another room. I found them very rude. Ice machine outside our room, On the wall with our head board. Very noisy. Carpeted floor with rips, the carpet was sticky. Bed extremely uncomfortable. Breakfast room was so over full, couldn't get to most food, no seating, coffee out, food was terrible, except pre packaged yogurt.
Review 40:Close to Raley Feild.
Review 41:Breakfast was nice , waffles delish! Our room was spacious, clean, smelled good & clean. I couldn't find anything to complain about room wise. The Mexican restaurant out front is really good, we ate there nightly after our long days sightseeing. We arrived early & tired from getting on a plane at 6am in Houston to San Francisco. No rooms were ready so we sat in the car exhausted waiting at 11am for 3!! To our surprise 30 minutes later & a knock on the car window & the lady let us know she'd gotten a room cleaned for us. THAT'S service!! We travel 1 week every month for fun. Stay a lot of places. This one was a great rate & well worth it. Staff was great at check in & check out!
Review 42:Room too small for four suitcases. Breakfast room tiny in spite of many rooms and many guests. No elevator and no help with luggage to second floor room.
Review 43:Swimming pool for the children. Near the river. Parking.
Review 44:Very cheap at around £18 pppn. Complimentary taxi service which we used to get into town. Obviously gave the drivers a few dollars for their trouble. Excellent value for money and would highly recommend this hotel
Review 45:The housekeeping staff gathered outside early morning and talked loud and laughed & yelled back & forth to each other etc. did not seem to understand some people wanted to sleep past 6:45 or 7:00 am they were rude when asked to please be quieter! The homeless hanging around was also disconcerting !
Review 46:The location for business mtgs. Downtown. The staff were helpful. The rooms clean and comfortable. The breakfast person wow she was great in every way! Welcoming & helpful alert to the customers needs! I tipped get but wants. To spotlight her work as well. The associate check in man was wonderful as well! Having a good restaurant so close was good asset as well.
Review 47:So noisy we could not sleep until 4am in the morning. We asked the manager to look at the noisy lorry parked directly behind our room ( a quiet one!) he agreed its very noisy and would try to get it moved. He did not report back to us and the lorry engine ran for 40minutes per hour until I drove off at 4am. totally dissatisfied and in the morning I told the office staff the same thing.
Review 48:As we arrived early they moved us into a quiet room so we didn't have to wait for the cleaners to finish
Review 49:Light was flickering in bathroom, slight smell within room. Checked in late, front desk clerk wasn't very friendly.
Review 50:Checking out was alot better almost seemed like a whole different place.
Review 51:Problem with the bathroom not fixed but they gave us the room just next door so we didn't have to move our luggage. They didn't propose a compensation but I didn't want to bargain.
Review 52:Big room with a terrace and quite good equipped (microwave and refrigerator). 5 min drive from Old Sacramento.
Review 53:The free breakfast was too popular...there wasn't enough seating and the whole situation was in a very small room. We left.
Review 54:The room was lovely and clean. Nice decor good bed and bathroom
Review 55:.The breakfast offering was merely continental. We did not eat b/c we wanted a hot breakfast
Review 56:Good location - close to downtown and old Sacramento. Staff was pleasant. River walk behind the motel was pretty.
Review 57:Air conditioning whilst good at main task also sent very cold blast at anyone in bed. Surely only the fittest could face the return walk if going pedestrian to Downtown. Lack of any good local restaurants.
Review 58:Our 1st floor room close to river had good aspect. Very easy drive to Downtown [Parking not always so simple there] Good parking on site. Very helpful Reception staff.
Review 59:Had trouble with wifi. But had just as much trouble with expensive hotel. Also not the hotels fault but there is a lot of vargeanta in the area. Even around hotel looking through garbage in evening. Would not feel comfortable being outside at night there.
Review 60:Staff friendly and helpful. Comfortable bed. Clean room.
Review 61:There is a couch in the room in an old dark burgundy corduroy type fabric that has seen better days, and either should be replaced or covered up with a sofa cover.
Review 62:Room was large and clean and had a comfortable bed. Close to everything, park, downtown and airport.
Review 63:Breakfast could have been better, but it was convenient.
Review 64:The pool and American River trail access were the best parts. Room was nice, clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Great location for seeing the River cats.
Review 65:i liked everything.
Review 66:Breakfast was really great, had lots of options and fresh made waffles. The location is perfect and close to good restaurants in the area.
Review 67:The area was a little bit sketchy, to me. I never felt unsafe, but I did feel as if I should keep an eye out and take care.
Review 68:Clean, decent hotel. Next to the river. Decent wifi. Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly.
Review 69:Nothing comes to mind.
Review 70:The hotel was clean and welcoming with good facilities. Breakfast had plenty of options including hot sausages and eggs. The hotel was next to the river with access to the river walk for an easy walk into the city. The wifi worked well. All up a great hotel for a very reasonable price.
Review 71:I arrived late - about 1am and I was very impressed by the gentleman who checked me in - he was excellent in his knowledge of the area, went above and beyond in his explanation of all the amenities that were available and was one of the most personable and mannered concierges I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.
Review 72:It was clear that the room had been smoked in and doused with perfume. We found this out after we had unloaded car after a long day so we opened door and ran A/C to help. But don't kid us. Breakfast sausages: 1. Looked nothing like real link sausages should look 2. Were put cold into a steam table, which is not the way you heat things. Geez.
Review 73:Quiet room. Path to Sacramento River. Work out Room. Nice Mexican Restaurant next door
Review 74:One of the things I asked for when booking the room was quite. I was in town working very long hours and only wanted to sleep for 4 - 5 hours before going back to the office. The room they gave me was next to a gate which led to the river. The gate was an old iron gate that slammed very loudly every time someone went through it. You heard a lot of noise from the others above you like the toilet flushing and walking back and forth. It would have been a lot better stay if it wasn't for the noise. Maybe if I was upstairs it would have been better.
Review 75:It was clean. It was a good size room for a single traveler.
Review 76:Loud people upstairs. Other people checking in late was very loud. Noise stopped within a half hour, so not too bad. Ice machine is very loud outside our door. Breakfast eggs and sausage very poor quality.
Review 77:The room was clean. It had both microwave and fridge. Good water pressure and showerhead. Plenty of room for five adults.
Review 78:Convenient location to Old Town Sacramento & convention center where we had our Regional Conference. Happy staff at desk & continental breakfast.
Review 79:None
Review 80:The location of the hotel was very convenient for us. The breakfast was delicious, the cheese omelets were very good. We enjoyed being able to see the river.
Review 81:Looked less than inviting pulling up. I thought it was too close to the freeway
Review 82:Attended a conference at embassy suites for much less without a 30 a day parking fee. Get an upstairs room near the river
Review 83:I think the breakfast room is a tad bit small for the amount of guests that was there.
Review 84:Pet friendly hotel with nice access to the trail behind the hotel in a convenient location. The breakfast selection was surprisingly enjoyable.
Review 85:We were very very surprised by this property. Staying in a chain budget hotel you expect things not to your specs. We own a bed and breakfast and very familiar with the hospitality industry. This property was excellent period. Clean, comfortable, friendly staff and most important although not in the best of area it was and felt very safe.
Review 86:We had a small patio on the back side of our room, that was a nice surprise. Furnishings are dark wood -- the kind that is out of vogue now -- but really comfortable and well-thought-out. There is a tall mini-fridge and a microwave. The breakfast is decent -- the make-your-own waffle option is great. Staff is friendly and nice. If you want to be close to Old Sacramento and biking on the American River, this is a good spot. The back gate goes to the trail. Very convenient!
Review 87:Can't complain
Review 88:We stayed there on valentines day weekend, i really enjoyed our stay. I got the exact room i wanted, upstairs close to the rive r side,i loved the access to go to the river it was perfect for the morning walk, just beware theres a bunch of bums at night but theres a secure gate so they cant sneak into the hotels, otherwise its pretty close to old sac too, for the money it was exellent
Review 89:Our toilet was glogged and the maintenance guy came and unclogged it, and when he did he let the plunger just drip all over the floor after it had been in the toilet. Super gross!!
Review 90:Loved the night time staff. Very friendly. We turned in a lost sweater and cell phone and the night desk man went out of his way to get us some hot chocolate. Super nice.
Review 91:I was left on hold for a long time. In fact, one time I had to hang up and call back again. Also there were times the people answering the phone made it seem like I was bothering them.
Review 92:The room was clean and the gentleman at the front desk was very nice. It was great that you offered shuttle service to the airport. You guys took me to the Convention Center after picking me up at the airport and letting me drop off my luggage and check in. On the day I left, you again picked me up at the Convention Center and took me to the airport. Both shuttle drivers were very polite.
Review 93:got mosquito bites all over my legs. Guess the patrio was close to the river. Location is hard to find.
Review 94:staff is very nice. They even let me cancel the nights I don't need . Food is good. Clean. Comfortable. Access to the riverside running.
Review 95:Located within walking distance of downtown. A pleasant stroll along a path next to the river that can be accessed from the Motel. Very friendly and helpful staff and a great breakfast included.
Review 96:The walls were a little thin, so there was some noise from adjacent rooms. And there was no extra blanket in the room, not that it was especially cold. I just had a chill from the February weather.
Review 97:Best possible location--just a 5-minute drive to the capitol--for a great rate. Decent mexican restaurant across the parking lot, which you can take back to your room. The front desk staff was very sweet and let me check in early to an available room. Couldn't be happier.
Review 98:Friendly staff, clean comfortable room and a great hot tub. We went to a concert at the Ace of Spades, spent the night here and then spent the following day riding our bikes to Old Town and on the American River trail. You can keep your vehicle in the parking lot and get to the trail from the hotel. Just let the staff know what you are doing and they will give you a key to get through the gate to the trail. It was a great stay that I will do again. Oh and the price was right.
Review 99:The breakfast was horrible, and at 8:30am gone. They didn't offer shuttle service as advertised! We had to get a taxi.
Review 100:Staff was friendly, room was clean.
Review 101:We passed several homeless people on the trail. We booked it for $85 online and we told the room was $95. When I showed her the confirmation, she honored my price. This room was worth $50 - 60.
Review 102:There was a fence in the back which allowed you access to a river trail. We walked to the nearby Discover Park.
Review 103:The train could be heard by light sleepers like myself but not excessive. Wifi wasnt superfast but ok. The shower drain was a little slow but ok.
Review 104:I liked the great price for the cleanliness, comfy beds, and ideal location. Overall impressed with the quality! I would stay there again...
Review 105:WiFi required re-login very often. Wet carpet in the room is not something you'd expect. Access to rooms is not restricted by desk, anyone from street could come to your doors.
Review 106:Staff on reception is good, breakfast could be better, but definetely is not bad.
Review 107:There seems to be a little bit of a problem with the homeless in the neighborhood.
Review 108:The room.was a good size and the laundry facilities were better then I expected. And the restaurant next door Nena's was phenomenal for breakfast the next morning. I will stay there again in the future.
Review 109:The pictures that you put on your website look to me to much newer than the facility. I think the rating was a little high also. I thing it was a good place well kept but I would only have given it a 7 compare to other units in the area. May the rate was based on other units around the same age as the best western
Review 110:The staff at the desk, in the kitchen as well as the ones that did the daily upkeep of the rooms was very friendly and very helpful
Review 111:Top sheet on bed dingy and wrinkled. I made it aware to the head of housekeeping and she spoke to me as though I were lying and immediately ask if I wanted sheets changed or I could check out. I chose the latter. Very Un- Professional people!!!!!!!
Review 112:Location Convienent
Review 113:The wifi was very poor in the evening, possibly overtaxed by guests. Be advised that the location is a short drive to downtown, but it's not really walkable to anywhere.
Review 114:Not the first time I've stayed here on an overnight trip to Sacramento. Clean, reliable place that's good value. I will stay here again.
Review 115:The breakfast room can be a bit crowded. There is a on and off humming noise during the night.
Review 116:It provides all the needs. It is very clean and it serves excellent breakfast.
Review 117:rien, nada, nothing
Review 118:Proximité autoroute, (close to the Highway) Propreté (very clean) Acceuil (Staff at the desk) Petit-dej (breakfast) Wifi qui débite (fast internet connection)
Review 119:limited shuttle hours (does not extend into the evening...my flight arrived at 4:45 pm and required use of taxi to hotel because shuttle service is 8-5?)
Review 120:large clean room, extra towels and generous amenities including ceramic mugs for 6-cup coffee pot :)
Review 121:Could never figure out which light switches controlled which lights. Maybe if we'd stayed another night we could have worked it out. We were wanting to walk the river trail but it was RAINING!!!
Review 122:The family / handicap room is quite large & has plenty of comfy seating. Also has table & chairs on the patio. 2 sinks came in handy. Breakfast was wonderful.
Review 123:Room was a little musty smelling.
Review 124:Great location with access to a walking path next to the Sacramento River that goes right into Old Town. Motel is older but reasonable well kept.
Review 125:That all hotel/motels aren't like this!
Review 126:Traveled for 3 weeks by car. Nicest, best value and cleanest in CA. Not fancy, just spotless, well maintained and a great place to stay
Review 127:The toilet and shower were a little dirty and while they provided free breakfast, the many other guests made it hard to get any food.
Review 128:Bed was super comfortable, staff was nice and the free wi-fi was pretty fast. There's an excellent restaurant, Nena's, next door.
Review 129:Sketchy neighborhood, room had cleaning /odor masking smell. Dated /old carpet and not super comfortable beds...
Review 130:Tasty breakfast, close to downtown easy location from freeway
Review 131:No early morning airport shuttle, and taxi was quite expensive! Promised early morning wake up call was not provided. A near disaster!
Review 132:Friendly receptionist Very clean room and super comfortable bed!
Review 133:Vagrant rummaging through trash can on second floor. Didn't feel threatened but thought he knew the property too well.
Review 134:Clean comfortable room. Breakfast room well kept with great choices. Restaurant in parking lot excellent. Staff very helpful & attentive.
Review 135:I can honestly say that there is nothing I don't like. Sandman fits my needs and comfort perfectly.
Review 136:I like the location of the Sandman, because it is close to downtown, yet, out the back door, you can walk along the river on the nature trail. The staff is friendly, caring, and efficient, and very helpful. the beds are very comfy, rooms clean, microwave and fridge are so handy, and the shrimp at Nena's on the property is amazing!
Review 137:Selected this hotel due to supposed proximity to airport and shuttle service. We arrived on Sunday evening and an early departure on Monday. No shuttle service available, contrary to website. A distance from airport. Website made it sound like it was a 5 minute commute. Taxi ride cost $35-40 each way. Not happy with Best Western.
Review 138:Staff.
