Reviews for Valley West Inn
Review 1:Despite the blood on the door the dirty linens no housekeeping expensive restaurant Monday through Thursday no hot tub but the pool was nice and warm great location convenient to the mall shopping and other restaurants but very poorly maintained
Review 2:Jessica was a pleasure she was very helpful. However the overall feeling of the hotel was quaint and located near shopping the rooms were dirty linens not cleaned no housekeeping at all in five days one employee telling me off when I complained sadly the cafe was very expensive to eat there for four days and the coffee wasn't always full it was expensive to order coffee our room wasn't the best but they were spacious
Review 3:The service was poor. One employee was very rude. The rooms were dirty. The comforters simply gross. We were moved twice for different issues.
Review 4:I unfortunately did not like anything about the inn or or stay there. Will not be going back there or recommending it to anyone.
Review 5:The room we were assigned was missing the table and chairs but it was not a problem. The room size was very large and comfortable.
Review 6:The staff was very friendly upon check-in and the bar tender at the on-site bar was great.
Review 7:No hot water Had to run the shower for 15 minutes just to get the shower semi warm No heat lamp in bathroom which made the Semi warm shower even colder Side entry door was not secure. Didn't need a key or card to open. Anyone could walk in at any time. Doors on to floors not secure
Review 8:Not much
Review 9:Hallways and steps are tore. My phone didn't work in my room for the two days I was there. I called the front desk from my cell and nobody came to fix it. Only one ice machine worked in the whole place.
Review 10:Rooms are big and bed was comfortable.
Review 11:Room was dirty. Stains on the carpet and upholstery, pillows were terrible with lots of lumpiness, dirt in corners and window area, and had to kill 2 spiders. Definitely not worth $70.
Review 12:Staff was friendly.
Review 13:Uncomfortable bed, trash outside buildings, room smelled, dining room table chair for desk (uncomfortable to use computer at desk), glass on hallway door and covered by curtain--did not feel safe in room, dirty feel.
Review 14:Nothing
Review 15:Poor service. They made me go to the front desk for clean towels and coffee for the coffee maker. It was old and in need of repairs. There were lots of guests hanging outside the door smoking.
Review 16:The cozy cafe
Review 17:Place is dated and under construction to refresh. Room door had scratchs through paint and light switch in bathroom had knob missing. Kind of worn look to it all.
Review 18:Convenient to decent nearby restaurants and nice grocery store in Hy-vee for breakfast.
Review 19:Internet/Wifi was poor. I had to stand by the door of my room to connect. No guest computer available for flight check in. Key entrance to outside doors didn't work.
Review 20:The carpet in our room was filthy. The linens were so dingy they looked gray. The hair dryer was broken. When we asked for a different one, the desk personnel sad we had to wait for a manager.when we asked if she could borrow one from an unoccupied room, we were told we would have to wait for a manager. She didn't know when the manager would be arriving. I had to leave with wet hair.
Review 21:Locatin
Review 22:Poor customer service fakse advertising about price a waisted reservation all because this place charges a deposit up front fakse advertising on price
Review 23:The room was very humid, odor in room, air conditioner extremely loud, walls very thin, decor was extremely outdated and did not appear clean, bed was extremely hard.
Review 24:The location was the only good thing about this hotel.
Review 25:first off: no management on site on a holliday weekend. security door opens w/out keycard. ice machine "out of order" and other one empty.hallway to room smelled like locker room. room was locker room smell hung with me even after leaving , broken down mattress appeared to be in 20 year range. a 2nd room recommended was beds in same condition, well little worse. hallway did not smell though.checked out less than 2 hours after checkin and property refuses to refund money. mgr said she(Jennifer Stanley) checked room and all is fine. I told her if she had done that we would not be having this debate about my money wrongly taken from my account. claim was recently remodeled room.. told her better get money back and fire remodeler. only thing I seen nice was the lobby. however bar upstairs will let anyone in guest on not. I will never pay for a room again until I can have eyes on first. this place is a very bad mark for booking.com maybe booking.com should round the country to these good deal places and see what they are representing on their site. at best valley west inn is a 30-35 dollar range nightly as is.
Review 26:leaving
Review 27:It has seen better times, old and dark. Outside looks nice. The cover is better than the book. Bring your own light bulbs, theirs are very dim.
Review 28:Location was convenient
Review 29:Seemed like an older, lower quality hotel that was painted and fixed up a bit. First room we got the toilet wobbled significantly and there was no counter around sink. We switched rooms and neither item was an issue.
Review 30:Attached restaurant has good food
Review 31:The room smelled like a basement with a bad case of mildew. The hotel was very rundown--doors didn't open properly, air conditioning didn't work very well, lightbulbs missing. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 32:liked the location
Review 33:I wet to the front desk waited for 20 minutes to get ones for the pop machine and got tired of waiting tried calling the front desk and still no answer
Review 34:The beds were great and the pool was great
Review 35:I had to change rooms due to no hot water, the next room was outdated, had a stinky refrigerator, and the door to the room was mostly glass & let in too much noise & light
Review 36:Location
Review 37:Many things need fixed and updated. There was a hole in the ceiling, fence outside pool was broke, door to the pool had wires hanging out. Room was dirty. Staff was very unfriendly and didn't even explain where the room was when I checked in. I had to go back and ask again to find the way to the room. Need signs showing where the rooms are.
Review 38:The beds were extremely comfortable. Very close to Olive Garden, Red lobster, and other restaurants. Nice area.
Review 39:This place charged my card 6 different times, now I want you To know I had a different card for them to use they refused to do so, how rediculous, think they are trying to get more $ tht what the place is worth disappointed. They charged me the day I got there and 4 days later charged me again. Wouldn't recommend unless your not picky. Not for a family definely. The rooms were smokey, and it smelt like mildew, stains all over the store. To much to even write, if you wish try this place go ahead otherwise I wouldn't waste my time I would just find a different hotel if you even begin to read these reviews there are actually pretty truthful.
Review 40:Indoor pool all though it was nasty salt with chlorine:(
Review 41:Cannot understand how this hotel has a 3 star rating. Everything very old and outdated. Clerk could not even find me a phone book, or provide us with decent towels when we said we needed more.
Review 42:Service, I booked 2 rooms when we arrived we only had 1 room. They had to find a room as I showed my confirmation as having 2 rooms. They double booked other rooms for the same dates
Review 43:The room has a lack of lighting. The bathroom door wouldn't close and the toilet seat was very loose.
Review 44:I liked that it has an attached restaurant although it was a little over priced for me
Review 45:The proximity to the venue which took me to Des Moines prompted my reservation. The price was one of the lowest. The room was clean, but clearly, this establishment is overdue the renovations which are currently underway.
Review 46:Run-down: Cracked sidewalks, worn carpet on stairways (and I mean WORN), litter. Is it better to stay in a kept-up Motel 6, or a run-down once was nice? Haven't decided.
Review 47:The bed was comfortable; the sheets were good. The pillows were awful, but we always bring our own. The room was clean. Best part: A Whole Foods around the corner!
Review 48:Pillows felt like they ran them through the wash to many. Heater in room was so loud it woke me every time it kicked on. Maintenance tried to fix it, didn't get it fixed. Outside door near pool doesn't lock unless you pull it shut.
Review 49:The rooms are clean. Beds are comfortable. The staff was friendly.
Review 50:Having the bar area in the same vicinity of the check in desk is a bad idea. When we arrived we were struck with loud music and a group of drunken people who were screaming and cursing. My first thought was to run. As we got to our room and got away from all that we were surprised that the facilitie wasn't half bad, but because of our experience at the front desk we will never return. It gave the impression of a trashy motel rather than a respectable hotel. I'm am only glad that I did not have my children with me to witness all this.
Review 51:The staff was nice enough.
Review 52:The entire facility was mis-represented. It is very rundown and not worthy of a 3 star rating; very disappointing. All the lightbulbs in our room were low wattage and none of them were 3 way bulbs which made for a dark room.
Review 53:The fact my stay was for only one night.
Review 54:The bed sagged to the middle, the sheets didn't fit the mattress, the pillowcases were ragged, they only provided 1 hand towel, 2 washcloths, and 3 towels for a 4 person room. The remote control did not turn off the TV, so you had to get out of bed to turn it off.
Review 55:Had a café on site. Offered directions and info on nearby sites of attraction. The lobby was clean and neat. The kids enjoyed swimming in the pool, it was very nice.
Review 56:Nothing really
Review 57:This little motel has everything you need and nothing you don't. It's good value for money in a convenient location. The rooms are spacious and everything was super clean. My favorite thing was the bar they have upstairs of the lobby. 'Sparkles' provided a much needed beer at the end of a long day of driving and we enjoyed chatting to the friendly locals and bartender.
Review 58:There seemed to be a weird smell as you walked into the rooms. The Phones in our room did not work. Other than that I had no complaints about the stay.
Review 59:-Free WiFi, Friendly Employees and a rather comfortable bed. An alarm was going off in the room next to us waking us up and keeping us awake for a bit. The staff took care of the issue promptly when I contacted them.
Review 60:Forgot to clean my room after first night! Had to ask for clean towels and made my own bed!
Review 61:Night check-in gal was nice and did everything---bringing me light bulbs, tissue paper, and fixed tv.
Review 62:The motel lobby didn't seem clean and there were children running up and down the stairs and others in the lobby. We are accustomed to children, for sure, but not like this in a motel lobby. It made us wonder if it was a residence and if people were living there. People were sitting in the back (north) lobby. The back entrance door (north) was not at all clean and smelled of smoke. My daughter said as we entered, "Mom this seems "sketchy." ("not sure we should stay here")The entry hallway/lobby didn't seem clean -- but the room was. The north window leaked very cold air into the room.
Review 63:We liked that the room was large, clean and comfortable. We liked the location of the motel. We liked the inexpensive rate. We liked the quiet. It was a comfortable stay in a what-we-felt was a "questionable" place. This assumption was based on appearance of common areas. But, all was well.
Review 64:The hallway when entering in the back of the building was dirty on the floor. Walls and doors needed to be painted. In my room the chain on the door was missing making me feel unsafe.
Review 65:The location and price were great. Room was huge and the bed very comfortable. The room was very clean.
Review 66:Hallways need a carpet/paint upgrade. They weren't nearly as nice as the room -- in fact, a little gross. Didn't get any new soap or shampoo either time room was serviced.
Review 67:Attractive decor in room Comfy beds Spacious Quiet Fridge & Microwave Very convenient to interstate with a nice mall and restaurants nearby
Review 68:the 2 queen room was badly needing updating, repairs and paint. Lazy-boy was broken.
Review 69:I was able to swap a king for 2 Queens no extra charge. Location is great for getting out of own quick westbound.
Review 70:The TV was old and you couldn't change the channels very well. There was also no card to explain what channels were available if you could get them to work. I called the front desk and waited a half an hour then went to the front desk, they had gotten busy and had forgot. They told me that they would send maintenance up but they never showed. They had also mentioned that the couple who had the room before us had the same problem,( yet it wasn't fixed before they rented the room again?!) The air conditioner would rumble to life every twenty minutes, I finally turned it off so I could sleep. The carpets in the hallways are old and need cleaned badly. Our room was clean but the shower head hit me in the middle of my chest,( I am only 5'-9") The staff at the front desk were pleasant but seemed a little overwhelmed.
Review 71:The rooms are clean. The location was great for our stay in Des Moines. Nice restaurant. They did knock off $5 for the TV problems
Review 72:Some hallways have a funny smell and a bit dated.
Review 73:Rooms clean, beds comfortable and great value for the price. We stay there frequently for short stays in DM
Review 74:The seats of all 3 chairs in room were badly stained Smoke of outside smokers came into room starting 5 am Wall paper peeling off walls Paint coming off ceiling Kleenex was stuck in hole of peep hole in room door Carpet was very very old (did not feel clean) Room smelled old Bedding from 60's ?
Review 75:Lobby Location Bathroom was clean Room had fridge Morning staff was very friendly and assured us to pass comments on to Manager
Review 76:This is the most run-down, disgusting, bad-smelling, poorly kept hotel we've ever stayed at. Gangs of smokers hanging out at the back entrance (which we needed to use to get to our room), who had propped open the locked entry with a crushed beer can. Room doors that looked like they'd been kicked in before. Stains on the bathroom sink. Greyish-brown sheets that were white at some point in time. And rowdy guests whose screaming and partying woke us up every hour or so throughout the night. (The doors are paper thin; you can hear conversations of people walking by.) My pajamas smelled like the room cleaner when I got home. I felt like I needed a Silkwood shower after leaving there. Absolutely disgusting. Go anywhere else but here!
Review 77:Not one thing.
Review 78:Our room was musty smelling so we brought in our car fresheners and that helped.
Review 79:The location was very convenient for us and the beds were very comfortable.
Review 80:The facility was a little run down. It looked like they have been working on some things, but still need improvements. There was no breakfast, and even though they said they would have cinnamon rolls and coffee in the morning, there was none.
Review 81:The bed was very comfortable. The room was large and nice. The kids really enjoyed the pool!!
Review 82:blanket had a hole that they had sewn up; carpet felt damp and I was afraid to take my shoes off; weird smell throughout
Review 83:Cathie at the front desk Beds were comfortable
Review 84:Staff was poor, holes in the walls Windows broken sheets would not stay on bed carpets where stained and dirty recliner in room was broken. If you are over 5'5" tall the shower wouldn't work for you and I'm 6'2" had to ask for more towels every night as there where 4 of us in the room ( very dingy and dirty do not stay there if you want a good experience ) I said something to the clerk at check out and she could of cared less. Asked for a extra pillow and was told that they had no extra pillows. One day we came back to the room to find out that we needed toilet paper and this was after the room was cleaned. Curtains where covering the air conditioner. Don't know how they got a 7.3 rating out of a 10 I wouldn't even give them a 1 and I'm being generous. ( DO NOT STAY THERE )
Review 85:Nonthing
Review 86:We stayed in Room 206. No handicap access. The elevator stops in between floors, i.e. to get to the 2nd floor, you take the elevator to the 3rd floor & walk down about 6 steps, inconvenient for my elderly mom & my sister who has Parkinson's. The layout was confusing, the front desk staff could have easily given instructions. The door to the section leading to our 2nd floor room was labeled 'Lobby' on one end & 'Guest Laundry' on the other. The carpet of the hall was stained and dirty, the stair railing paint was chipped & grimy. Breakfast was not included. We didn't even try the restaurant as we were afraid it might be dirty too. The room furnishing were outdated, vintage '90's. We would have been glad to pay a little more for a nicer room. The photos on booking.com are very hard to believe as being in the same hotel we stayed in.
Review 87:Location is good as it's just off the Interstate.
Review 88:There was really nothing we didn't like. Free coffee and rolls are available in the Lobby but they do not have a complimentary breakfast other than this. There is, however, the Cozy Cafe in the same building and it has a wonderful breakfast special from 6:00-9:00 a.m.
Review 89:While an older property, it is well kept, very clean and has a friendly and efficient staff. Our check in (we were a group of 11) was done easily as they had all the Booking.com info ready. The rooms are large and comfortable and I especially liked the bathroom arrangement in our King room (a sink outside the actual bathroom plus a sink, shower, toilet inside the bathroom.) It made it possible to use the facilities quickly and easily!
Review 90:Kids in hallways noisy when they could have gone outside to pool or play area. Not complain tho.
Review 91:Safety is issue with older travelers and I have felt safe here. The cafe is on the property with real good diner meals. Staff are friendly and competent. Have already recommended to others.
Review 92:I booked this hotel at a lower rate than what was giving to me . this hotel is a $70 hotelmax, a night. No more than that. At the rate I was charged I could have stayed at the Sheraton.
Review 93:the outside sitting area was very nice.but not very clean. TheLounge was very nice and da bartender was fantastic.
Review 94:The fact that we actually couldn't find our rooms! It was nice the way they were away from the lounge but still close but need to be marked clearly marked! We thought it was just a laundry room door.
Review 95:The price was good for last minute on a Saturday night. The heated pool was a big plus with later hours and the idea that it didn't go over six foot. The lounge would have been nice if not traveling with children.
Review 96:Restaurant on premises not open for Sunday morning breakfast until 8AM.
Review 97:Location, very easy to access from main freeway. Friendly personnel. Very comfortable room. Adjacent restaurant, and close to major chain restaurants.
Review 98:Need to replace pillows. They was really lumpy.
Review 99:Room was big. Very clean. Was quiet.
Review 100:Staff turned me off Noisey Hang out for roudy, crude talking, bar atmosphere mentality at front desk and lobby
Review 101:Great location
Review 102:You must be remodeling in areas
Review 103:Location, cozy cafe, quite
Review 104:Clean and comfortable room. Very quiet.
Review 105:Worn dirty carpet, mold on walls and in shower/bath
Review 106:Front desk people, location, Cozy Cafe
Review 107:dirty alarm didn't work remote didn't work 2 lights didn't work need I say more?
Review 108:price location
Review 109:Not one pop machine worked, some of the hallways smelled like feces.
Review 110:Everyone was helpful when we needed them
Review 111:Need to bleach bed linens
Review 112:Needs updating
Review 113:Size of room
Review 114:Stains on carpet. Entry door was glass so hall way light kept me awake .
Review 115:24 hour front desk.
Review 116:Had a good experience.
Review 117:Staff was exceptionally friendly and knew what they were doing.
Review 118:The bed was extremely comfortable.
Review 119:Elevator did not work.
Review 120:no breakfast offered
Review 121:convenient location
Review 122:There were make up stains on the sheets and wall patches with mismatching paint. The beds were very questionable on if they had been cleaned or not.
Review 123:The place has passed its "Sell by date" and is in bad need of renovation its tired and worn down, lots of miles under its belt!
Review 124:The shower did not work and the overall cleanliness was not as expected. The staff seemed indifferent to this.
Review 125:The location is fine.
Review 126:Toilet lid was barely attached to the toilet. Room felt and smelled damp.
Review 127:Carpet, no breakfast, no hot water in lobby. Only one chair to sit on in room.
Review 128:Price, location and it was across the street from Olive Garden.
Review 129:The room had a smell that made me sick. maybe it was the cleaning agent. My husband and I woke up with headaches.
Review 130:The office staff was good.
Review 131:Pool area
Review 132:Location and price
Review 133:Everything was great...bar lady was perfect
Review 134:Awesome comfortable bed for meeting ppl
Review 135:Room smelled like it had smokers in it even though it was a non smoking room
Review 136:Price was very reasonable. Room was spacious.
Review 137:where to even begin? No wifi, drunk people in the lobby, maid service was horrible.
Review 138:The counter staff was amazing.
