Reviews for Grand Royale Hotel

Review 1:As directly shared with owner, they could use more attentive cleaning staff as room cleanliness not up to par. I was in 3 separate rooms and cleanliness varied. Linens and towels very clean, though.

Review 2:Very friendly, attentive and responsive staff. Went above and beyond to accommodate my business needs. Location central to my appointments and convenient to all major routes. Building is historic and lovely to see it's charm renovated. Parking right in front of hotel entrance on property.

Review 3:We came to check in at 9:30pm. The first room was not cleaned or made up so we requested a new room. Second room was not clean or made up so we requested a new room. Third room had no heat. There were no more rooms so we did stay at the hotel at all.

Review 4:Staff was friendly and trying to assist

Review 5:It was chilly and the jacuzzi wouldnt hold water but we made it work.

Review 6:Unique compared to most places we stay. Lots of open space, loved the stairs to upstairs bedroom/loft area and skylight. Will definitely stay here again

Review 7:It is the old 1898 City hall. Much of the history and design has been retained inside common areas. New owners this year are updating rooms and old woodworking a bit. If you like a boutique hotel , right down town, consider it. If you like the amenities of a large chain hotel, there are others near by.

Review 8:It was hard to sleep because of all the noise outside from 11 PM to 3 AM. The hotel is on the same street as several bars, and it was Saturday night. I could hear the music and people in my room until the bars closed. Perhaps they need some sound barriers or thick windows.

Review 9:Everything in the hotel is in desperate need of renovations and upgrades. I hope this do this while preserving all the historical elements of the building.

Review 10:Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 11:Rooms are a little small, and everything can feel a little claustrophobic, even the bathrooms.

Review 12:Staff were straightforward, no-nonsense, and polite. Much better than over a year ago, when it was under different management, by far.

Review 13:Even though it appears to be a somewhat fancy hotel, it is run like a small family motel. You had to ask for housekeeping services, but that fact was not clearly communicated.

Review 14:I liked the fact that the hotel is an old government office building with rooms that are different depending on what you get. Also the front desk employees were very nice.

Review 15:Room obviously hadn't been vacuumed, spiders on shower curtain, don't clean room or provide clean sheets and towels unless you request them (which we found out when we returned to our room at11pm)and the noise from the neighboring bars was incredibly loud, possibly due to the missing window

Review 16:There was a bed to sleep in

Review 17:Loud noise from guests in the lobby area passed directly into room Odd, time consuming check in and check out procedure Bathroom fixtures covered with water stains Filthy windows overlooking construction debris field Breakfast was a single waffle maker and coffee

Review 18:Location, if you want to be within walking distance of downtown restaurants and other amenities

Review 19:The rooms were smaller than they appeared on the website, the rooms were dirty, wall paper peeling, and no safety locks on windows. The so-called continental breakfast was in a corner in the lobby with pre-packaged pastry and a waffle machine you had to use yourself and the batter was horrible and the coffee was cold and decaf. Also, housekeeping knocked on our door at 9am when checkout was at 11am.

Review 20:I did like the hotel itself and the history, but it is in need of repairs. Also, the town has a storage container in front of the building that took away the beauty of the building

Review 21:Still undergoing refurbishment. Security latch broken and room missing some amenities,(i.e. coffee pods for Keurig). Not much closet space but enough drawer space.

Review 22:Great location and very attentive staff. Single room small but adequate with fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, heat lamp in bathroom. Inexpensive dining options are nearby.2 blocks to Binghamton bus station. Coffee also always available in lobby.

Review 23:After a perfect evening we came back to some extremely loud neighbors of ours. I went down to the front desk to complain and was told its college night! No sorry or solutions!

Review 24:The room was nice and clean. The day time staff was nice and professional.

Review 25:The entire building was being renovated so it was a bit noisy and dirty. There were definitely some small things that were done shabbily such as some shotty carpentry and the fact that during the entire time there was no cable, they did upgrade our room but then said it would be fixed in hours and wasnt up when we left almost 40hours later. Only ice machine was on 4th floor. Phone to call down to lobby didn't work.

Review 26:The overall building was very old and the architecture was beautiful on the outside and in the lobby. Pretty much had a personal elevator because there was no one else staying there. The entire hotel was being renovated so very few rooms were available but online it looks like they are all available but then say they are all booked.

Review 27:quiet clean comfortable walking distance to several restos will be really nice when there is in-house resto, bar, breakfast . . . as there once was

Review 28:Staff were super friendly. Excellent value for money.

Review 29:An x cellant location in a beautifully restored facility, surrounded by great architecture.all expected amenities. wish I could have stayed longer.

Review 30:The owners and the staff were awesome! Great room too. What a pleasant surprise!!! Would stay there again in a minute :-)

Review 31:Had to ask to have linens changed.

Review 32:Staff was awesome.

Review 33:Could use more parking

Review 34:Location and architecture

Review 35:The parking is difficult

Review 36:Newly renovated rooms were very comfortable and clean. I'm

Review 37:Decor God to

Review 38:The needs a design team.

Review 39:Bed surprisingly comfortable

Review 40:It is very old. The carpets, the bathroom tiles, the bed. It was all very old.

Review 41:Good location. Large room. HDTV

Review 42:Out dated , smelly carpets

Review 43:They were under construction so to be honest, they should have dropped the price.

Review 44:It did have a little musty smell.

Review 45:Facility was fantastic. Beautiful building, staff was great.

Review 46:Air conditiining, and TV not working in room.

Review 47:The bathroom was filthy. I'm not a neat freak but there was longblack hair in the tub and on the floor. A lot not just a loose strand. Ishould have asked for a new room but just cleaned it myself.

Review 48:Location, beds, air conditioning and the best shower

Review 49:An attempt to change the dates of the stay was not corrected at thehotel. They advised me that I had to contact Booking.com to makechanges. This idea seemed arbitrary and not logical.

Review 50:The person who checked us in walked us to the room, ensuring thateverything was ok. The staff for the breakfasts were cordial, thoughtful, and professional.

Review 51:All floors creaky, elevator made some scary noises as well(provided, it's an old building). No "fan only"setting on ac unit in room.Wi-Fi information should be provided with the check-in booklet containing room key cards! This is common practice at most major hotels and is easy to fix (a couple extra printed lines on the cards).

Review 52:Very quaint and good looking, historical building. Adjacent parkinggarage provided adequate space and was free with the stay. Plenty ofpillows on the bed! Had we been interested in Binghamton's nightlife, the location would have been perfect!

Review 53:Only complaint was that the mattress in my room was a little worn down. Could stand to be replaced.

Review 54:It's all about location! Stayed there because it was budget friendly and close to where my daughter lives. We enjoyed the continental breakfast both mornings. Ate lunch in the grass out back and menu food was delicious also.

Review 55:The curtain rod in our room was hanging off the wall. The grout near the tub on the floor needed cleaning.

Review 56:Such an opulent place. Very well appointed design and styling wise. The continental breakfast was great. Many choices. Microwave and fridge in our room came in handy.

Review 57:It was very old, dark, and the staff was horrible.

Review 58:The location. We went to a wedding and the reception was directly acrossthe street from the hotel.

Review 59:It was like going back in time when hotels were grand and elegant the Foyer was beautiful and the rooms were clean, comfortable and nicely decorated.

Review 60:Upon walking into the room, there was a "musty" smell. One of the foot covers on the bed was dirty.. didn't make a big deal over it, I was there for a quick overnight stay.

Review 61:It was a quick stop-over. It suited the purpose of getting a nights sleep.

Review 62:it was Monday and their kitchen was closed. The downtown area where the hotel is located appears to be economically depressed.

Review 63:Classic "old style" hotel.

Review 64:Drape hem was completely out and hanging in tatters. Ceiling in bathroom was badly stained and appeared ready to descend onto my head while I bathed. Towel rack was missing and wall damaged. Was addressed as What do you guys want? This is a popular and lamentable way of addressing people these days and as a 67 year old lady not something I love. Passable in a diner...not in some place that is trying to be a bit more up-scale. But still, this was a great visit.

Review 65:Staff was friendly and helpful beyond the average. It was very quiet there for being in the middle of the city. Parking was easy. Building is beautiful. Bed very comfortable. View from window could have been Paris. Food was amazing.

Review 66:I never like staying right in the city however, I know you can'tcontrol this since the property is located there. In those days hotelswere located downtown and outside these areas were considered resorts.

Review 67:Update of the old style mid-20th century luxury hotel. Has the standardup to date features available at other locations. Most people today arenot familiar with this style and are used to today's chain cookiecutter layout.

Review 68:The breakfast wasn't great, could use some fresh fruit and a little more creativity. Also the TV was behind the times and not in great condition

Review 69:Easy to book, great bed and bathroom. Absolutely stunning building with great energy

Review 70:The entrance to the hotel was not plowed and the snow was there all night making walking very treacherous. The entrance facing State Street and the parking lot was plowed.

Review 71:I stayed on short notice because of a snow storm and could not get to my home in rural Vestal

Review 72:The staff had some problems with the check-in process. Breakfast was a bit on the light side - little available protein.

Review 73:Nice convertion/reuse of former civic building. Parking was good and accessible.

Review 74:Wallpaper in room has started to peel off.

Review 75:Location is great. Staff very accommodating. Building charming.

Review 76:Double beds just don't do the trick fr 2 people.

Review 77:It was clean, friendly good breakfast.

Review 78:room phone didn't work

Review 79:Beautiful room - easy location

Review 80:The alleys around the building were in disrepair and the neighborhood is rather depressed.

Review 81:A nice way to keep a classic old building in use.

Review 82:This is a re-purposed beautiful old city hall converted to a low price hotel in center city. Very funky and fine. Included breakfast.

Review 83:Nothing.

Review 84:Delightful and comfortable. A very special, old-world charm hotel. Nice breakfast too.

Review 85:Beds weren't super comfortable, especially the rollaway

Review 86:Loved the architecture and the city center location

Review 87:Good location in downtown.

Review 88:the location

Review 89:The ambiance

Review 90:nothing.

Review 91:pretty much everything.

Review 92:On line search!

Review 93:breakfast quite basic

Review 94:Location, size of the room, elegance, character
