Reviews for Laurel Inn Motel

Review 1:The staff was super kind and friendly. It's a cozy and convenient little place that's not far from all the Monterey tourist spots and convenient stores.

Review 2:The room was a bit dated but relatively clean.

Review 3:The location was good, almost off the highway. Check in was easy. Price was reasonable. Breakfast was not bad.

Review 4:location was perfect easy to find once arrived in town. I didn't have to drive far to meet up with my family. Room was clean, everyone was nice, however bagels and Danish is not a breakfast.

Review 5:Wish all the ice makers made ice. I had to keep looking for one that worked. Also didn't have Do Not Disturb signs & I just wanted to sleep late which I couldn't cause the maid kept knocking on door & when I didn't answer the front desk called to ask if I wanted maid service which I didn't.

Review 6:Clean & comfortable.

Review 7:Good location, nice part of town, close to some restaurants, nice that Black Bear Diner is on the property Rooms were well kept and nice, had a great continental breakfast. Plenty of choices and plenty of food, and had staff continually cleaning and restocking it

Review 8:The motel was easy to find. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and everything worked. The Laurel Inn was conveniently located next to Black Bear Diner.

Review 9:Everything closes early, the diner, the liquor store and laundromat, across the street. So if you have small kids who get hungry around 10:00 p.m. make sure to bring something for them.

Review 10:The location is good right off the 101 it is clean, has everything you need, serves continental breakfast and has a stand alone diner on the property ! It was close to the train station and had been recommended by friends and family.

Review 11:I've stayed here several times and the staff has always been nice and helpful, and the rooms clean. The breakfast room can be a bit small when more than a few folks are up and hungry, but certainly not a deal breaker.

Review 12:Last year on the same day our daughters really enjoyed the hot tub. This year they put on their bathing suits and went down to the hot tub to find it closed with no explanation; disappointing! There was no "do not disturb" door hangar in our room so it was understandable that the very nice maid knocked on our door to see if the room needed cleaning.

Review 13:Thick towels. The young man running the breakfast was wonderful and made sure everything was as good as it could be.

Review 14:Pool/hot tub broken!!! Extremely disappointed in this and how thestaff addressed it as when I checked in I was asked if I wanted upstairsor down to which I replied whatever room is closest to get in and out ofpool. Nothing on it not working and while I serously pointed and shesaid she had rooms all along that top floor we were still put in roomfarthest from pool where not only could we not see the hot tub, we couldnot see signs stating it was closed either. When calling to inquire onthis and asking why I wasnt informed was told it was closed but shewould call me back to confirm???? If I had not already unpacked (todress for hot tub) I would of checked out and went to another hotel asit was the biggest reason I chose hotel. Will mention I work in theindustry and would never decieve a guest as I felt I was at checkin...tsk tsk Laurel Inn!

Review 15:For price and proximity to our concert location it was perfect. Roomsare outdated (tvs from 1992) yet clean, comfortable and prettysoundproof.

Review 16:We were charged for a crib which is somewhat non-standard. The proximity to the highway has its advantages but for us it was just noisy.

Review 17:It was clean and spacious. Convenient having a restaurant nearby.

Review 18:Nil

Review 19:Stayed one night in this hotel in our way to San Francisco. Generally, room is clean and comfortable. Breakfast is included but simple. Good value for short stay.

Review 20:The first thing we noticed after arrival: We have ants in our bathroom! The receptionist said she that she could only clean it but not offer us another room, since they were booked completely. However, the motel sign showed "vacancy" throughout the whole night. 3 minute after cleaning, of course the ants showed up again. Disgusting!

Review 21:Update TV. Thanks

Review 22:I arrived in the evening and I was very impressed with the front staff how quick a response from them to check me in, that's what I like to see have a quick response for the customer thank you

Review 23:Was delighted to have a fireplace, but it didn't work? Neither did the dead bolt lock.

Review 24:Clean, comfortable, very nice stay. Breakfast was decent. Pleasantly surprised at how nice it was -- great value.

Review 25:For a motel - surprisingly modern, clean and spacious. Great staff, a great welcome and the continental breakfast was fresh and tasty. The Wifi worked extremely well.

Review 26:Paper cups - the norm for USA - but not always Bathroom light separated from fan. Two suitcase holders !!!

Review 27:Everything worked! Room size and bathroom very good. Lighting good. Best in 5 days and an excellent continental breakfast included. Room clean (we have found this is not always the case on our travels) Service at desk excellent - two people and professional

Review 28:My lovely lady and I really enjoyed the hot tub and pool, spent 3 hours in 'em! Everything we wanted, and for a decent price...heading back this weekend!

Review 29:Breakfast room a little small for the size of the place and it gets very bust at times but great breakfast nonetheless.

Review 30:Great location just of highway 101.

Review 31:We mentioned a few ants in the bathroom, but that would be the only negative.

Review 32:It felt safe and comfortable. Everything was kept up nicely. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would stay here again. Would recommend to others. Four pillows on the bed !

Review 33:People at the desk seem a little cantankerous. Not rly unfriendly or anything. Just gave us the feeling they didn't want to go through the trouble in helping us.

Review 34:Clean rooms, fridge and icemachine. No noise at night, was not crowded though so don't know how that would be if the place was fully booked. Nice restaurant next door.

Review 35:Front office was a joke! You have to be buzzed in all the time it is a little small area (5x5) and that's where coffee and breakfast is served. Bed was high and hard lots of noise.

Review 36:The breakfast was a total let down for the price of the stay. The stairs were hard on my husband.

Review 37:The pool and spa open late. The room was clean and spacious. Very clean.

Review 38:I didn't like that the refrigerator was in the bathroom and there wasn't a microwave.

Review 39:The rooms were spacious and clean. Location was good. Right off the freeway.

Review 40:The price is little bit high. The sheet are not so clean, we find hair in the bed.

Review 41:The structure is good. I like the room. The breakfast is very good.

Review 42:On our second night's stay the sheets were dirty. It seems like the bedding was changed from our previous night but dirty or stained sheets were put on the bed.

Review 43:Overall, the staff was accommodating, facilities were clean and quiet. A nice stay. I would book here again.

Review 44:the beds are very hard. We stay there one night so its okay but if you stay longer it could hurt your back. the room was clear but "old".

Review 45:stuff was friendly.

Review 46:We stayed for one night (July 4th weekend) while visiting Monterey and Carmel. The Air Conditioning stopped working around 12 am, there was ice formation inside and no air was blowing not even a fan air. Water started leaking at the bottom so we had to put towels. In the morning, the water was all over the floor (sink area). When I notified at checkout desk next morning, they said its common and did not respond. We could not sleep well, Kids (6 yr and 15 months) were having tough time all night. I do not recommend this hotel to a family with kids.

Review 47:Continental breakfast was a plus point however, the breakfast room is very compact, no enough sitting space, we had to stand outside and do breakfast.

Review 50:rooms clean But could be updated with paint, beginning to show it's age. But i would stay again !

Review 51:staff were very friendly & accommodated me in a late check in.

Review 52:Very close to freeway, so there was a bit of traffic noise - bit nothing major.

Review 53:The beds were very comfortable, the rooms were clean and large. Hot tub was wonderful.

Review 54:Freeway noise. Slow wifi. Noisy neighbors. I wasn't entirely confident all the expensive tools in my truck would be there in the morning. Some shady looking characters wander through that lot. At least you can park right outside the door.

Review 55:Clean room, comfortable bed. White linens and blanket so I am comfortable it was clean. Good pillows. Convenient restaurant.

Review 56:This is a clean, comfortable motel with a nice pool and located just off the freeway. My king room was large and the bed comfortable. I would definitely stay again! There was a softball tournament going on in Salinas when I was there, and the hotel was sold out..that tells you something!

Review 57:Bed was below par; a bit hard, with no padded mattress cover. Breakfast was also somewhat unappealing; the usual continental fare, but no eggs or waffle maker. Our room was spacious, and very clean. Our window opened onto a very ugly alley between two buildings.

Review 58:Very clean and spacious room.

Review 59:The breakfast room was so packed there was no where to sit and you can't take food out of the breakfast room. Some had to eat standing up with no table. It was Memorial Day weekend though which meant it was very full.

Review 60:We stayed in the back area and it was quiet. The room was clean and comfortable.

Review 61:1. Free breakfast could be better. Black Bear Diner is on the hotel grounds, so it is not a problem. 2. Single tiny bottle of shampoo was provided. It was enough for us, but most couples would need 2.

Review 62:1. Pool and Jacuzzi is open until 11:00 PM. 2. No password required for WiFi - nice touch. 3. I have been offered a choice of rooms on check-in. Very nice!

Review 63:Ask for a room at the back if you are a light sleeper

Review 64:Convenient overnight motel with comfortable rooms, pool and pleasant breakfast(very helpful breakfast staff)

Review 65:120$ including taxes.hit by the weekend rates...Too expensive for a overnight motel although you can't fault the place for cleanliness or the room or the wifi. They are all really good .But not worth 120.

Review 66:On a main street, heard fire trucks and police sirens about every 30 minutes. Very uncomfortable bed. No microwave.

Review 67:Price, Friendly hotel staff, lots of parking, Black Bear Diner across from property

Review 68:Although the exterior appearance makes it seem like an older facility, the interior of the room was quite modern and tastefully decorated; it was fantastic. When we declined the continental breakfast due to my wife's gluten sensitivity and indicated we planned to instead eat at the Black Bear Diner on the same lot, the staff was kind enough to give us a 10% discount card which was very nice.

Review 69:They locked room and removed my things and lied about trying to call me despite having my cell phone number and email address and caused me to be late for an event. Management had bad attitude and made no effort to accommodate for the inconvenience caused.

Review 70:Room was ok and hotel just off freeway

Review 71:It's all said in the above sentence. Also, great diner right next door. Black bear diner, a good place so close by for two very tired travelers!

Review 72:Property accommodated my request for an upstairs room close to the office. A previous guest had smoked in the room and the ashtray outside of the room was overflowing with cigarette butts. I asked to be relocated and was to a room downstairs and in a corner. It worked out fine

Review 73:Good-sized room. Good breakfast with professional, polite host/manager. Parking convenient. Good water pressure.

Review 74:That it was clean, that it was easy to find, that the trundle bed was in the room ready as requested and that there was a very nice restaurant next door. Lovely breakfast too.

Review 75:Stairs are pretty steep. My husband fell and hurt his ankle pretty bad. We will ho back but request a lower level room.

Review 76:This is our go to place when in town!

Review 77:The breakfast selection is poor. Lack of atmosphere - hotel is surrounded by roads and parking lot with a swimming pool

Review 78:Comfortable bed and clean room. It is close to the highway. In my opinion, not for longer stays.

Review 79:The first room was cold heater not working we had to move rooms late at night. Then we stayed another night they changed our rooms again this time the heater made a lot of noise and older ugly rooms plus found public hairs on floors in both rooms not very clean.

Review 80:Comfy beds and pillows

Review 81:Our air conditioner broke while we were sleeping. the Bathroom was flooded when we got there and the maid made us clean it up. There were lots of shady people in the parking lot. And we found condom wrappers and used condoms right outside our door the next morning.

Review 82:The pillows were nice, breakfast was good.

Review 83:Definitely would stay here again. For the price it was very clean! I was very pleased with the breakfast facility and offerings. only complaint was mildly annoying noisy (rude!) guests...not the motels' fault!

Review 84:Could hear people walking around in the room over us, and showers running in other rooms.

Review 85:Liked the price. I would stay there again. people where friendly

Review 86:Not the hotels fault but the street was busy and when I was picked up by my son we had to dash into traffic to get onto the road.

Review 87:I stayed for over a week visiting my kids and grandkids. I really was not expecting much and only stayed there because how close it was to my kids house. Even though it was not necessary my room was kept very tidy and extra cleaned every day. I was greeted with smiles from all of the staff and could tell they were genuine. The daily continental breakfast was good considering the low cost room and the coffee was excellent. I will be staying there again for sure.

Review 88:There was nothing I didn't like at the Inn.

Review 89:The Laurel Inn Motel is conveniently located next to the highway and shopping--and the breakfast room, tho simple, has a gracious host and a good assortment of breakfast food! It was a comfortable stop in my holiday travels.

Review 90:Some of the electrical outlets didn't work properly in the room, but we didn't stay long enough to wait for them to be fixed - great place to stay for the value

Review 91:Very clean and reasonable for the price; complementary breakfast was a nice bonus - provided the basic breakfast items; excellent customer service; elongated toilets were nice

Review 92:Bed was a bit firm for my taste.

Review 93:Large room, spotless bathroom. Yes, the neighborhood is a bit sketchy, but if you are traveling north or south on the 101 it's a very convenient stop for the night. Continental breakfast included cereal, but if you are hungry, the excellent Black Bear restaurant is just across the driveway.

Review 94:We didn't like allowing pets in the rooms. The room next to us had a dog that was barking constantly. Very loud and annoying.

Review 95:Clean and comfortable with and a good location. Very nice diner on the premises. A corner store across the street for essentials.

Review 96:There was nothing I didn't like.

Review 97:A super clean motel, comfortable bed, their breakfast room is clean, spacious and have many choices, and is attended by a very gracious and helpful guy. The location is perfect, just off the freeway and surprisingly quiet. Overall a great experience at a very reasonable price. I loved it. I thank booking.com reviewers for sharing their experiences. Through them I found out about this Motel. highly recommend it and will be back. Thank you!

Review 98:The maid failed to clean our room when we were gone for three hours in the morning and did other non-returning guest first. When we got back and she saw how unhappy I was when I spoke to her, after a little prodding by me she cleaned it immediately and called for help so the two ladies could clean it quickly.

Review 99:Room is standard and clean.

Review 100:I did not like the tv in the room. This day and age, I'd expect any and all hotels to have flat screen TV's in them. This room had an old projection/tube tv and it was frustrating to watch.

Review 101:We've traveled to Salinas for softball tournaments numerous times and it's mostly been during the summer. The rates are usually at least $160 a night so I was pleasantly surprised when I found this room so cheap. I suppose rates come down when there aren't too many travelers staying in Salinas during a vacation to Monterey. I liked that there was a free breakfast. The rooms were clean and the beds were big.

Review 102:Bed was fine, clean. A better mattress would have made the stay more comfortable and all categories increase in rating.

Review 103:Amenities used were clean and operable. Pool and jacuzzi temperatures were comfortable. Always nice to stay on site and have outdoor relaxation and activities. On site diner was good with charming atmosphere.

Review 104:The bed was very very hard to both of us, just sitting on the bed but we decided to give it a try and stay overnight. After preparing for bed and laying in the bed for only a few minutes I became so itchy and scrachy that I could not rest well with the bed being hard and the above situation I had a miserable night, before the night was over I had to actually put on all my clothes in order to even rest in the bed without scratching my skin off my body. But to top everything off I stepped on the floor without my house shoes and felt those sticky is grimy is floor I ever encounter in a hotel in a long time all these points is a reason why I rated this hotel so low.

Review 105:the staff was very friendly and very understanding when I made my complaint and they offer to recheck the room and also offered to give us a different room. my reaction to the sheets left me to think I would not get any relief as I was sure they that it was due to the detergent or whatever they were using to wash their linen.

Review 106:We used the pool and jacuzzi and it was clean and nice. We just felt we needed more privacy as its in the middle of the parking lot.

Review 107:Great place to stay. Close to the coast but not with the coastal price.

Review 108:Room door opens to the outside rather than to a hallway inside.

Review 109:We only stayed one night. It's basic but a good budget option for visiting the California coast--we drove from there to Big Sur and back.

Review 110:Privacy was an issue. The hotel does not allow "Do Not Distrurb" signs as a matter of policy. So you are not able to skip housecleaning for any reason. I did not care for the attitude and tone of the staff when I questioned their policy. They were not very nice about it. I guess they have had issues with guests in the past, and in my view the new policy is meant to give the hotel a way to do a visual inspection of each room daily. I find that offensive. I also had to cut my trip short unexpectedly and the staff was not very knowledgeable about how to change the departure date. At first I was told that it was not possible. It took talking to a couple of people to get the change done. The property is also quite dated. It's not in bad shape, but I was not impressed.

Review 111:The breakfast was good. They had a good selection and plenty of seating. The TV channel line-up was also good, with a handful of channels in Spanish which was important to us. The beds were comfortable.

Review 112:tattered carpet and furniture. No inviting character to the place. Front desk staff sufficient, no more. Clean enough to pass, not enough to inspire me to go there again for sure. . maybe. if on budget .

Review 113:air conditioner worked. Restaurant within walking distance. Clean shower and bed. Inexpensive.

Review 114:A/C didn't really keep the room cool, so it made it difficult to sleep at night. The room was sprayed with some type if air freshener and it triggered my allergies.

Review 115:Room was clean, centrally located for all we wanted to do.

Review 116:Unfortunately the weather wasn't great. Of course that's not Laurel Inn Motels fault, but do know it's going to be much colder here than for instance in Pismo beach/ Paso robles/LA (where we came from). If you go a bit more inland, you'll probably have nicer weather. A pool is great, but when it's too cold (in the middle of summer) why pay for it..

Review 117:The Inn itself was fine; clean, fast wifi. Pool looked clean as well, however it was too cold when we were there to use it. Salinas is a very boring town; nothing to do there. If the weather is good, you can relax by the pool and then the Inn would be a great choice. I would prefer staying in a warmer region next time (a bit more south or away from the coast) so you can enjoy the facilities. If you're planning to stay in Salinas anyway, I would recommend the Laurel Inn motel.

Review 118:one of the beds had been slept in and left a lot of hair in the bed. we received replacement sheets quickly.

Review 119:Room and amenities were nice. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 120:Dinner at the big bear diner wasn't the best meal we've had...

Review 121:The bed was comfortable, the shower was great and the included breakfast was really good!

Review 122:Rooms were a bit dated, not the cleanest -- gave off quite the motel vibe, but fine for an overnight stay.

Review 123:Convenient access to major road, nearby laundromat, convenience store, restaurant

Review 124:Noisy, too close to street. Next time will request different room location. Room a little musty when first walked in. Mattress not as comfortable as other places we've stayed.

Review 125:Close to Monterey & Carmel but much more economical. Close to restaurants & shopping Appreciate good coffee & fruit at breakfast.

Review 126:There was no area map available, and the staff at the front desk was not very well informed about the area.

Review 127:The facility and grounds were well kept. I liked the fireplace in our room; however, not all rooms had one. The cookies on arrival were good.

Review 128:The pool was being renovated. Having looked forward to a swim all the way through a very long, hot drive, were extremely disappointed that the pool was closed. Surely they could tell people who have booked? It's not rocket science.

Review 129:Handy location on a road trip. Off the tourist beat in a mainly agricultural area

Review 130:The water backed up in the shower and the carpets were wet from recent cleaning.

Review 131:The room was very well maintained and quite spacious. The breakfast was satisfactory for a continental, but hot options would be preferable.

Review 132:A little loud between the rooms. You can hear the tv's on through the walls. My lady and I stayed up doing other things :p No complaints

Review 133:Good staff , decent bedroom.

Review 134:Old style CRT TV with world cup on! Update your TV to flat screen - since the cable is presented in a format for flat screen. It is 2014 - update your TV!

Review 135:clean rooms, good breakfast! Great value!
