Reviews for The Priory Hotel
Review 1:The entire hotel seemed a little tight with space but was understood given it came from an old church
Review 2:Location to near by city attractions in free parking the free shuttle was also very convenient and nice
Review 3:There was not one thing I did not like.
Review 4:I loved everything about this hotel, staff, room, breakfast....you name it and we loved it. Cannot wait to book agian:)
Review 5:My husband & I travel to Pittsburgh to watch our favorite teams. The Priory is a close walking distance to the stadiums. The staff also provides transportation for the late nights. They are great!
Review 6:Some hair in bathroom, could have been cleaner. Very noisy above us...sounded like "River Dance" jumping on floor, walking across floor all night long. Couldn't sleep.
Review 7:Staff was great. Breakfast was good. Shuttle service excellent.
Review 8:This hotel was wonderful. It was like stepping back in the past. The rooms are absolutely beautiful and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The quality was first class all the way. Pretty good location. Walking distance from several attractions.
Review 9:The room was noisy--not sure if it was the HVAC or return vent. Also, my room had a stain or repair on the ceiling that should have been re-painted before allowing guests to stay there. There was a cranky concierge as well.
Review 10:the queen-sized room had a strange layout. the bathroom shower was extremely small. I upgraded to a King Room, and it was a huge upgrade and much better experience.
Review 11:the tiny boutique bar was awesome, the continental breakfast was amazing and the shuttle service was the best.
Review 12:That we couldn't stay longer.
Review 13:The historic feel and pictures of its past in the halls and throughout the building was proud touch. Our room overlooked the patio area
Review 14:No bad experiences at all.
Review 15:Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful and comfortable, cozy hotel. Clean rooms, great breakfast. Convenient parking. Short walk to The Strip and Cultural District.
Review 16:The Hotel lost our reservation through booking.com, but luckily they had an extra room available. I booked the room several months in advance. Booking.com reminded me of my reservation but evidently they didn't remind the Hotel.
Review 17:Great historical building, modern amenities. GREAT continental breakfast. The Staff was friendly and accommodating. Very close to the Ball parks in Pittsburgh.
Review 18:the breakfast needs to be stepped up a bit. it was spartan. Hot oatmeal and warm hard boiled eggs would be sufficient additions.
Review 19:Clean and comfortable, interesting location and a historical 1880 building!. Cheerful and Friendly Staff.
Review 20:No bad experience, but would not recommend walking around the area after dark.
Review 21:Fabulous old Hotel. Well maintained but preserved the history. Attended a wedding at the adjoined Grand Hall. It was all perfect. The courtyard was delightful. The staff was friendly and helpful. Great value for the money.
Review 22:The free shuttle was great! Thanks Henry! Our room was great. The view from our room, not so great. But we didn't care. We didn't go there to look out the window..staff was top notch! I will be back next year ! See you guys then..
Review 23:N/A
Review 24:The place has a unique style with excellent service especially the free shuttle which we used constantly. Have been 6 or 7 times and would not stay anywhere else in Pittsburgh. My favourite hotel in the world (and I have been to a lot) and they also have Henry.
Review 25:I know that you know the hotel is in a tricky spot. The beginning of the block feels risky. One almost wonders if the block could end well, but, of course, it does. Not sure what you can do about the neighborhood.
Review 26:The property itself is exquisite. Each room is thoughtfully decorated, the colors just right, the use of space luxurious. The courtyard with café tables was lovely. The whole property is beautiful. We decided we need to come back.
Review 27:The beds needed to be more comfortable. It would definitely raise my review.
Review 28:We liked the staff the most out of the experience and the cleanliness of the property. It was a very nice experience.
Review 29:The location of the hotel was ideal for walking all about the city. The staff were friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast a great way to start the day! Don't be put off by the surrounding neighborhood; there is obviously a lot of work being done in the area. A great experience!
Review 30:The wifi is weak and sporadic.
Review 31:This is an absolute gem! It is totally modern without ruining a single historic detail. Immaculately clean! The staff went out of their way to assist us.
Review 32:front staff was super! very accommodating and helpful. room was clean! excellent. and the breakfast was superb!! the breakfast attendant was always re-supplying foods, etc. excellent employee!!
Review 33:The neiborhood is a bit dodgy for the surface view. But they say it is ok.
Review 34:The place is not only charming, set in a amazing old building with an amazing church as part of the properly, the staff is just wonderful. There are two older gentelmen there that made the trip. Can't remember their names but great guys.
Review 35:The room smelled a little musty but was tolerable. Was woken up at 5 am by people yelling as my room was near the front desk.
Review 36:Love the history and furniture of the place.
Review 37:I'd like to see a varied breakfast perhaps scrambled eggs. Other than that it was awesome!
Review 38:Loved the accommodations, the staff, the shuttle service, particularly Henry was the best and such a knowledgable person on the hotel as well as the city. We loved the courtyard where we. Had our breakfast each day and sat out late afternoon
Review 39:First impression of the neighbor hood when we got to the street that the priory was on was that it was sketchy. There is a housing development that looks sketchy as well as a high rise that looks the same. We came to find out that it is a senior citizen high rise. My wife and I walked around a lot and never felt like it was a bad area and enjoyed how close it was to a lot of things. Our first impressions we off base.
Review 40:This hotel is amazingly clean. The staff is ultra friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast was very fresh and delicious. The priory is very close to PNC park which was very nice.
Review 41:This is our second stay. We love the character of the building itself and the location, but this time our room was very small and smelled of smoke.
Review 42:This is our second stay. We love the character of the building itself and the location. Also really like that the parking is free. And the breakfast was very good, especially when you can enjoy it in the courtyard.
Review 43:Need to change out the shower heads. Neighborhood is just ok.
Review 44:Wonderful Hotel that has charm and Nice breakfast. Morning paper awaited us. Very good staff. Friendly and attentive. Nice location and close to Sports venues.
Review 45:A/C didn't go below 70° when selected lower temp. After a day out in 90+°, would have like to been cooler after a cold shower
Review 46:Location was quiet and beautiful historical site.
Review 47:Location is a bit dodgy, lots of vagrants around nearby store which we had to walk past at night. Accommodation slightly over priced.
Review 48:Nice and comfortable room, very friendly and helpful receptionist. Short walking distance to downtown.
Review 49:The neighborhood isn't the best. Housing project right across street. Fine to walk in daytime, but not night. Police confirmed when we asked at Pirates game
Review 50:hotel - perfect- wonderful room, very large on 3rd floor
Review 51:The only drawback to this hotel is the location. It is in a neighborhood that would cause you to clutch your purse tighter and think twice about being out on the street after dark.
Review 52:We loved the history behind this hotel. It was once a Benedictine Monastery and it has maintained the integrity of the original stained glass and structure of the building. The staff was wonderful and the rooms comfortable!
Review 53:where do I start ? the surrounding area is almost third world. Needs new management.
Review 54:room was nice. Adam at front desk was very helpful in the face of staff goof ups
Review 55:The receptionist when we first entered was very nonchalant. Didn't seem to care to talk to us about how to get into the centre of town. Did want to give us information on the shuttle bus offered complimentary by the hotel, instead just telling us to take a cab. Our only bad experience though.
Review 56:Beautiful boutique hotel with high ceilings, clean, well decorated, classic rooms.
Review 57:Max, at the front desk, was very kind, welcoming and worked well under pressure. He handled a woman who was complaining about location very well. Made every attempt to professionally accommodate her. Would definitely return and will recommend.
Review 58:Second time staying at The Priory. Staff is great and rooms too. The place has a lot of character. Clean, quiet, and a shuttle that will take you anywhere around the downtown area. Great value for price.
Review 59:Not exactly a bad experience, but shower plumbing was quirky and we didn't get maid service our first night.
Review 60:Loved the old-fashioned feel and furnishings with (mostly) modern amenities. Since we had great weather, the courtyard was perfect for eating breakfast, and the porch ideal for having drinks with friends. Nice to have free parking and breakfast included.
Review 61:They only allowed old out dated rooms for discounted bookings, stand on carpets old outdated and small
Review 62:New part of property looked nice but not available
Review 63:None.
Review 64:We travelled to Pittsburgh to see a Pirates game. The location to PNC Park was excellent. Free parking was also a bonus in a hotel in the city.
Review 65:Location, while within walking distance to sporting venues, is close to highway and train which can be noisy. I did not feel the neighborhood was a detriment and was safe walking at night.
Review 66:Very quaint facility. Has historic past. Future looks very bright
Review 67:Shuttle was helpful for getting around, but we missed info that it shuts down at 10:45 on week days. Cabs are not really an option in Pittsburgh and we had planned on shuttle for return to hotel after dinner one night. Restaurant got us a ride and it was fine.
Review 68:Location was nearly excellent: wonderful to walk across bridge(s) (easy, short walk) to riverfront/downtown/Fort Pitt/Strip. Enjoyed Deutschtown vibe. FREE parking and short walk to baseball park - a bonus!
Review 69:Not really in walking distance to many attractions, but I was there on business, so that was not a real big concern.
Review 70:Great staff, wonderful historic hotel, free shuttle around downtown.
Review 71:The continental breakfast was OK but if you are a late riser, you will likely miss the good stuff.
Review 72:The staff is extremely helpful. The shuttle service is excellent. We literally pulled in, parked our car and never drove again for 3 days but got to visit everything we wanted. The Pirate Game Package was awesome with great seats!
Review 73:The street the hotel is on is a little dicey at first view, with a supermarket on the corner and some local riff raff hanging out can make you feel uncomfortable walking but it was ok. I thought signing a no outside alcohol permitted release was strange but whatever. If you require this then your bar should be open better hours..not at 4-11p.
Review 74:The hotel is more like a bed and breakfast. The location is perfect for any downtown event. We stayed for the Kenny Chesney show at Heinz Field. A short 10 minute walk on the main road. The breakfast was fabulous. Lots of choices. Very relaxing to have coffee on the covered patio. Free parking is also a huge bonus. Will definitely stay again next year. Clean large rooms with large windows. Stunning.
Review 75:The loud groaning pipes when you turned the cold water on at the sink. Bathroom door did not shut. The shower was very small. The bed was noisy.
Review 76:Th staff was very pleasant, engaging & helpful.
Review 77:Would be nice to have fridges in every room...not just the upgraded rooms. Beds need to be upgraded. Found the mattress very uncomfortable. No outside liquor allowed in hotel? Really?? How childish to have to initial that we understood this and would not break the rules! This needs to be eliminated considering the rates for the rooms. Need to respect your guests...not try to intimidate them upon arrival.
Review 78:friendly staff especially Henry our shuttle driver and Nikki the bartender. They both were very helpful with directions, dining recommendations and knowledge of the city and it's attractions. the hotel was a quaint and historic setting. Loved the courtyard and within easy walking distance to downtown. Also handy to have a grocery store close by. Excellent, entertaining shuttle service (although vehicle needs an upgrade) Continental breakfast was well presented with many nice "out of the norm" options (cheese cold meats, fresh fruit and plenty of everything) however same menu for 3 days in a row. Some new "surprises" each day would make a good breakfast even better! Also...better teas and selection.
Review 79:This was our first time staying in downtown Pittsburgh and I would definitely stay here again. The whole experience was great! My sister and I were so impressed with the building and the staff. Incredible! This hotel has character that is just amazing!
Review 80:Kinda stuck in the middle of the rougher part of the neighbourhood, but didnt have any trouble.
Review 81:Our room was beautiful and the hotel overall was very very clean. And an added bonus it was in such a central location close to so many attractions.
Review 82:Price was a little steep but then again it was Memorial Weekend. Beside that everything was perfect.
Review 83:Everything was perfect for me. 10 walk minute to PNC Park home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Clean room, free WiFi, staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Will definitely stay again.
Review 84:The queen bed we slept in felt more like a double and the mattress is LONG PAST DUE for replacement! And the shower was about the size of a cruise ship shower...and that's not very big!
Review 85:The facility was very clean and quiet and there was easy access to freeways for traveling around town. The courtesy shuttle to local restaurants and points of interest was a big help. Free parking in an adjacent lot was terrific!
Review 86:Breakfast was adequate, but nothing special.
Review 87:Great staff and shuttle service. Interesting building. Walkable neighborhood to restaurants and park. Frre parking.
Review 88:No dislikes
Review 89:The food was real. Germanic influence with cheese and meats at breakfast. Light bar meals in evening very good for singles not feeling like going out tired from the day.
Review 90:Limited free parking. Luckily an inexpensive paid lot was a fewblocks away.
Review 91:I will only stay at The Priory anytime I run in the PittsburghHalf/Marathon. They were conveniently located on the route, whichmade getting to and from the race a breeze. Traveling out of town waseasy because that part of the route is early and roads had allreopened. They gave me an extra hour on checkout, so I was able toclean up after the race w/o feeling rushed. And there is nearbygrocery, drug store, gas station locations for all those last minuteworries. Loved them!
Review 92:A minor complaint is that the neighbourhood is a little "sketchy" but that concern is mitigated by the ready access to the hotel shuttle van, both of whose drivers were friendly and cheerful.
Review 93:The staff were great. The room was large, very clean and nicely-decorated. The building is very charming from an architectural standpoint. Also, there is a great little bar just off the lobby.
Review 94:The only teeny, tiny, minuscule thing was the very slight, barely noticeable noise from the nearby train. It might bother late, light sleepers. Or not.
Review 95:Beautiful older hotel, nicely located. (Easy to find, neighborhood safe to walk in the evening, and several interesting areas close by,) The rooms are old fashioned with high ceilings and large windows, but with modern amenities--wifi, flat screen, coffee maker, fridge. The bathroom was small (stall shower), but we didn't go to Pittsburgh to go to the bathroom even though we're from Cleveland. A great rate, free parking and a delicious European style breakfast sealed the deal. We're wracking our brains for an excuse to go back.
Review 96:Our headboard on the bed was very shaky. We were not told what the password was for WI-FI when we checked in. I did not like that I could not block the light from the hallway from coming into our room.
Review 97:Price was very acceptable. Free WI-FI was good. Ability to adjust room temperature to suit us was very nice.
Review 98:Wifi in our room was poor at far end.
Review 99:An old building renovated in a very elegant and beautiful way. Has a shuttle to downtown which is very convenient. Services are good and staff friendly.
Review 100:Decor in room 223 was austere. Blank Wall with technical stuff facing the windows is the most important and most neglected. Tiring omnipresence of yellowish color in bathroom. I did not stop hitting the legs of bed taking too much space (bad design)
Review 101:Quality of service, beauty of the place
Review 102:I talked to other guests that were astounded at the price per night that I paid because they had paid at least $50 less than me.
Review 103:I liked the shuttle service
Review 104:No major complaints. Couldn't find the hair dryer, ball of hair in the shower, would have loved some Nutella at the European breakfast.
Review 105:Everyone we spoke to was friendly, kind, and helpful. Beautiful building. Great stay.
Review 106:The bed was awful. The Breakfast was just weird. Even Days Inn and Motel 8 provide a refrigerator in every room.
Review 107:The staff were great. Henry is a prize you should treasure. He took incredible care of us, to and from downtown. The rooms were clean. The location to downtown was a 5 minute shuttle ride.
Review 108:Lack of counter space in bathroom. Couldn't get hot water in shower.
Review 109:General look and feel. Staff was great. Breakfast buffet was well above average.
Review 110:The shower wasn't great. Neither was the breakfast. The coffee was pretty bad both at breakfast and in the room.
Review 111:The price couldn't be beaten. The bed was reasonably comfortable, the staff was awesome, and the location of the hotel was convenient.
Review 112:poor selection of breakfast you may hear train twice or more every day small bathroom very slow elevator
Review 113:fair price $109 per night free breakfast free car parking near to supermarket, downtown and Children Museum
Review 114:The area rug by the bathroom door was some what dangerous because it kept catching the door...no biggie
Review 115:The uniqueness and the charm of the Priory. The staff was very friendly and the fireplace was the very best location for breakfast. I hope to return on my next visit to my home town.
Review 116:Neighborhood a little run down, but seems to be coming up. Concerned for safety at first, but had no problems.
Review 117:Historic district Old World Charm Shuttle Service
Review 118:The cable was out but again the staff more than made up for it.
Review 119:There was a mix up with my reservation and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. A stellar staff!!!!
Review 120:What is not to like? The architecture is exceptional. Who ever did the interior design nailed it. It is quite lovely. We went into the the 'church' which is now a banquet hall which has preserved all the murals. The staff was kind, friendly and helpful. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Review 121:Wish I could have stayed longer.
Review 122:Great ambiance, the helpful staff, good breakfast, comfortable bed, quiet, great location (I only rated it good because I'm not sure everyone would go for it)- just overall a great hotel stay. We were only going to stay 1 night, but got so enamored of Pittsburg our first night there that we stayed 2. Our fondness for the city and this hotel only grew.
Review 123:The bed is quite soft and squeaky. The walk at night under the freeway is a bit scary. Best not to forget it alone!
Review 124:The entrance and decor throughout are evocative of the priory' s origin. The on site fitness centre and breakfast were a nice bonus. The staff was very friendly. Easy walk to downtown and cultural centre. Parking space is ample and right across street.
Review 125:Poor wifi signal and most of the time internt was not accessible. Shower was not functional. Hair-drier was broken. Neighbourhood was strange.
Review 126:Other was fine, breakfast was good. I liked the personal atmosphere, which is not possible in large hotels.
Review 127:There really wasn't anything not to like.
Review 128:All employees very accommodating and helpful. The shuttle service was really a plus to go anywhere within 2 miles from hotel. Plan on going back in the spring. Would advise anyone that it's a great place to stay.
Review 129:The bathroom was a little small. There were no restaurants that we could see within walking distance. The area is not too good for walking around.
Review 130:The building is beautifully maintained inside and out. The place used to be a priory and is full of character. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was wonderful. You get a morning paper delivered to your room. Free parking and WiFi. Very easy drive to downtown restaurants and theater two minutes away.
Review 131:Very unique & nicely decorated with antique furniture. There's history to this location too which is nice and a very welcomed change from the larger hotel chains. Free shuttle driver to take you close by and pick you up - cool little bar with good wine and limited food.
Review 132:Great little hotel and very unique. I stayed in the new section and it was superb!
Review 133:The bathroom was too small.
Review 134:Staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 135:Nothing not to like!!
Review 136:Friendly staff. Quiet, clean beautiful room. Delicious breakfast.
Review 137:No bad experiences.
Review 138:Exploring the north side.
