Reviews for Vagabond Inn Executive Old Town

Review 1:Management was unwilling too allow me access to breakfast before the normal time. My day starts at 5am out the door. The price per night should allow a guest a milk and piece of fruit at the very least?

Review 2:Room was clean, bed was comfortable, water pressure was good. Counter person was very helpful and friendly.

Review 3:The heaters in the room did not do a very good job of circulating the heat.

Review 4:The receptionist was very friendly and accommodating during check-in and check-out.

Review 5:Breakfast site wasn't cleared. My husband and I were a bit puzzled when we went down for breakfast and all we saw was coffee. Once we asked agent that we walked passed, we were told where to go in the back of the restaurant next door. This should have been told to us upon check in.

Review 6:The bed was so comfortable.

Review 7:get rid of the carpet. old stains on white comforters. I like to feel comfortable. The smelly carpets and comforters need to go. Makes the place have a dirty feel. Not something I like to spend my money on.

Review 8:location. staff.

Review 9:Rooms are ok, bedsheets looked clean, breakfast area is very worn out and greasy. The breakfast was pretty bad tasting.

Review 10:It is right next to Old Downtown Sacramento, so if you have an event there - it's a walking distance.

Review 11:NOISE! heard neighbors' conversations, boisterous, loud people out in hallway, traffic; ear plugs provided, so not a new problem, apparently.

Review 12:location, comfy beds,

Review 13:We couldn't get the WiFi to work. This was a very big deal in the evening. The hotel was close to the freeway which was convenient, but somewhat noisy.

Review 14:The beds were very comfortable. The hotel was conveniently located, close to Old Town in Sacramento. The room was clean, decently stocked and comfortably furnished.

Review 15:A little noisy in the morning, but it's the city so you have to expect that.

Review 16:Close to old sacramento, and the shuttle took me the Almond Conference that was being held at the convention center and picked me up.

Review 17:It was VERY convenient to Old Town and all we wanted to do. The shuttle was terrific as it took us to the ballet and we didn't have to be concerned about parking. One driver was pleasant, but the return driver was rather sullen. I felt like we were imposing on him Desk staff was pleasant and helpful. They had everything we needed.

Review 18:Leaf blowers outside at 0700. City should have a noise and construction ordinance for limited noise until at least 0730 or hotel needs newer windows to better sound proof rooms.

Review 19:- Clean; comfortable bed. - Walking distance to old town and soon to new stadium. - Great breakfast! - flat screen, microwave, refridge - free parking and WiFi

Review 20:The location was perfect. It was right off the freeway and parking was free! The room was very clean and spacious, and included a microwave and fridge. The TV channel line up was perfect for us and our kids.

Review 21:The room needs a through cleaning. There was dirt and/or dust in every corner, spots on the carpet. Complimentary breakfast: eggs were very dry and sour tasting. The breakfast room was dark and dreary.

Review 22:Close to freeway.Only noise was from travelers partying till 2 or 3 am. Had all amenities including hair dryer and makeup mirror.

Review 23:The old smell of cigarette smoke in the room which was attempted to be covered up by a stinky cheap motel aerosol spray was very disappointing. Removing the old wall paper and upgrade the windows to double pane to reduce the freeway noise (a first that ear plugs were included with motel amenities) would make this location a real find.

Review 24:The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Real nice surprise of happy hour treats.

Review 25:It was a little noisy since it's right on the highway. This doesn't bother me, but my friend was being woken up even while using the complimentary ear plugs.

Review 26:Although we didn't use the pool or hot tub, they looked super clean. Great cable tv and the free breakfast was pretty good. We had a car full of stuff so we were a little worried about it being broken into, but the front desk staff had us park where they could see the car and offered to keep an eye on it.

Review 27:Room looked like it was out of an old movie in the 70s.carpet old.massive caulking around the tub.lights were all fluorescing green yellow color lots of extension cords. The staff was the best part of this stay.

Review 28:Staff was awesome

Review 29:The location couldn't have been better, it was smack between the company party and our next days leisurely time in Old Town before we left the next day. The staff were kind and responsive instantly when we had any needs. And breakfast was great, an unexpected perk indeed!

Review 30:Unfortunately the rooms have outside doors which leads to people thinking that no one can hear them through the doors, and the rooms near the stairs mean that people are talking near them both late and early. Also, where the carpet meets the wall could use vacuuming and our wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling off. Be sure to check if the refrigerator is on before putting something into it.

Review 31:Location is great, beds are comfy, and the microwave and refrigerator are handy.

Review 32:front desk person not very polite, maintenance being done restricting access to room, breakfast was terrible lack of variety, dark room staff hoovering over you waiting for dishes

Review 33:Restaurant opposite used for breakfast . The whole area was dark and looked unappealing , floored with dark old carpet and gave the impression of not being clean. Cups taken directly from dishwasher racks. The breakfast itself was surprisingly good and staff pleasant and helpful

Review 34:Easy to find by freeway, but equally this made it a bit noisy. Adjacent to Sacramento Old Town and convenient for the city. Beds comfortable. Rooms dusty under beds and in the corners if you had to reach down for a socket

Review 35:Area by elevator on second floor cluttered; could have been cleaner.

Review 36:Almost next door to the California RR Museum and Old Town Sacramento. Great breakfast at restaurant next door; good food choices and friendly staff.

Review 37:Mini fridge freezer was frozen and couldn't be used for the bottles of water we brought. Noisy from helicopters, but ear plugs were provided, which was a very nice gesture.

Review 38:Convenient location for walking to downtown and Old Town Sacramento. Easy on and off the freeway. Lots of nearby restaurants. Across from Amtrak station. Next to an Asian apartment complex - fun to observe customs, etc. VERY nice staff, clean pool, decent exercise equipment.

Review 39:The place didnt look clean and the staff needed to be more attentive. Breakfast room was too dark and tight with very few tables.

Review 40:Very good location. Is right off the 5 freeway and walking distance from old town.

Review 41:only one wash cloth in the room, mini fridge had ice build up so bad that the freezer door was setting inside the fridge on a shelf.

Review 42:Pleasant staff, very clean room, nice clean pool and pool area, weekend breakfast was very nice.

Review 43:Paint was peeling off the doors, outside molding coming off in some places; hotel has seen better days; owners need to invest in sprucing the place up a bit

Review 44:Great central location to Old Sacramento. A little noisy but room comes with earplugs. Room was clean and everything worked in the room

Review 45:Breakfast not really eatable small selection over cooked eggs fried toast instead of pancakes

Review 46:Good location easy access to airport and downtown bit noisy however earplugs are provided

Review 47:My friend arrived hours before me, and we had a terrible time getting checked in, even though I gave his name on special requests. Eventually had to scan my CC and DL. Really?

Review 48:I came in on the midnight train, just a block from the hotel. Their shuttle was still available. Great bed, very comfortable, good sheets and comforter. Amazing included breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes. Yummy!

Review 49:Concrete walkway need power washing. A card key was needed on the first floor to get to the elevator, but there was also open acessable stairs to the other floor from the parking lot....security????

Review 50:The location and price. Great breakfast provided by the restaurant that was steps away next door.

Review 51:some highway noise but they give you earplugs; a/c was weak

Review 52:free shuttle anywhere; full breakfast; pleasant clean warm pool & hot tub; free accessible parking; courteous staff; location, location, location; elevator; environmentally conscious but ample towels

Review 53:The restaurant next door is doing the breakfast for the hotel and the place is dark, smelly, not clean. We should have skipped breakfast there.

Review 54:The room was very clean! The beds very very comfortable. Very easy access to Old Town.

Review 55:The map on the reservation internet site (from I-5 going south) brought us in on J, to 5th, to I, to 3rd. But there was no entrance on 3rd, so we turned left on J and then left into the lot- which we could have done without going around the block.

Review 56:The location was convenient because it was close to the freeway, and interesting because it was near Old Sacramento. Comfortable and clean.

Review 57:If anything, the bathroom is a bit dated. The shower head, was shorter than I stand and the stall was peeling. Again, upgrades are being made, so I'm sure once complete this will be a mute point.

Review 58:We use this hotel every year for our annual rafting trip and night out in Old Sacramento. The fact that it's walking distance to Old Sacramento is the best. This visit, there seemed to have been some upgrades to the property. So that's a plus!

Review 59:I ask how soon I can check she told me the check out is 12 to 1 without checking my reservation I had to wait. And when I check in it was before 12pm

Review 60:The bed was heaven.

Review 61:Desk clerk was rude at check in when i presented my AAA card. Got locked out of the room (even though i had my key card) because the curtain bumped the lock, at which point the maintenance person was fairly rude and said he couldnt get us back into the room. Eventually they shimed the door and we were able to get back in

Review 62:Very close to where i needed to be

Review 63:The pool did not open until 10 am which was silly since people were sitting around at least 90 minutes prior.

Review 64:Affordable and comfortable. The breakfast was pretty good

Review 65:We were concerned about the pool's cleanliness. Apparently there was a pump problem that was to be rectified.

Review 66:Walking distance to train and Old Sac.

Review 67:Wifi was intermittent sometimes connects others not. Didn't try breakfast. Pillows were a little too hard for my liking.

Review 68:Lovely staff, free shuttle, big fridge in room.

Review 69:I was unhappy that they charged my credit card before my arrival as it was indicated that it would be charged until then.

Review 70:The room was clean and the hotel included several amenities (from pool & gym to iron and hair dryer in the room). It was walking distance to points of interest in Sacramento. It included a complete breakfast (i.e., eggs, potatoes, pancakes, and sausages).

Review 71:Great location in downtown Sacramento, convenient to Amtrak. Quiet room by pool, unaware of city traffic noise. Nice walk to the Capitol from motel.

Review 72:It was very dirty and run down. The work out facility had 2 out of the 4 machines not working and the mirrors on the walls were broken. The walkways were very dirty and there were people sitting around on stairs and in front of doors smoking, drinking, intoxicated. Elevator out of service, we were on the 3rd floor.

Review 73:The pool was nice and refreshing. If you get to breakfast early enough there will be enough food. Otherwise, you snooze you lose!

Review 74:We loved the location to Old Sacramento and the Railroad Museum. Beds we amazingly comfortable and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Staff were very helpful allowing us to park our car for the day after we had checked out.

Review 75:Its in a high crime area, and although I'm sure they try hard to keep the rift raft out, there were some ladies of the night hanging out there. I didn't leave anything in my car. It has a reputation for having situations where police need to come. I didn't know that until after I got there, lol.

Review 76:I liked the proximity to Old Sacramento and Capital Mall. Its an easy walk, or quick drive to those places.

Review 77:The banging of doors from housekeeping when we were trying to sleep!

Review 78:Hotel is in great walking location to local amenities like movies, d sac, & soon to be Kings stadium.

Review 79:There was nothing to dislike

Review 80:Staff really had a can do attitude. Arrived early in morning at 600 hours. They provided breakfast even though we had not checked in, fast tracked us to a room, and helped to make our stay get the most from Sacremento. We fully recommend this place to other travellers

Review 81:No handicap bars in the bathroom/tub (in regular room).TV reception was poor. Even though it was a non-smoking room, it smelled.

Review 82:Value and location. Nearness to Old Town Sacramento.

Review 83:The check in policy is archaic and wrong. I reserved the room through booking.com, got an email stating my card would absolutely not be charged until checkin (after 3pm), which was excellent since our plans about who paid for the room changed the night before. When I did check in at 5:30, the card had been charged at 2pm and there was not a thing they said could do about it. Now, I am bouncing all over the place and I can't even get a simple call back from the corporate office. Deplorable. Never again. All they had to do was send 1 email that said "Thanks for reserving your room through booking.com, please note our policy is completely different than theirs and we will not honor the terms of your booking. Here are our own..." And none of this would be a problem. As it is, I've been treated better by the DMV.

Review 84:The room itself was ok, there was no deadbolt latch on the door. Mold on the ceiling of the shower. These things wouldn't have bothered me if the check-in hadn't gone so poorly. The breakfast was ok, coffee was nasty.

Review 85:Noise of bikers roaring past night and morning! Also not enough staff on duty so check-in very slow as staff had to keep breaking off to answer the phone.

Review 86:Friendliness of staff

Review 87:Avoid rooms near office on pool side. During breakfast on our stay, staff carted dishes and supplies back and forth over cobblestones using a cart that rattled terribly.

Review 88:Proximity to train station; extremely comfy bed.

Review 89:Third floor room facing the Amtrak station was a little noisy. Rooms facing the poolside are much quieter.

Review 90:Good location. Handy to Amtrak trains and to Old Sacramento Town. A comfortable walk back from Sutter's Fort. Always a good hot breakfast.

Review 91:Pool bottom is dirty. WiFi worked but was slow. The free shuttle driver was great. But they only have one driver for the shuttle. They wanted us to wait 45 minutes to receive a ride back to the hotel. Ended up paying for a cab. :-(

Review 92:Breakfast buffet is of good quality, it has eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, pancakes etc. The location is excellent. Close to multiple restaurants and interesting shops. Hot tub was clean and felt great.

Review 93:Bathroom had mold needs to be cleaned and painted. room smelled bad, bed very uncomfortable. I had to park my vehicle on opposite side of where we were located. Breakfast was out of eggs, and potatoes were cold. at 8 am. For that price I should have gotten better service and room

Review 94:Nothing to dislike.

Review 95:Shuttle service was excellent-picked us up from Amtrak and also drove us to the Avis depot to collect our rental car. Staff were courteous and helpful. Breakfast was good and plentiful.

Review 96:It wasn't a bad experience, necessarily, but being old, the rooms have glass transom windows over the entry doors, allowing outside lighting to flood the room at night. Once we got to sleep, however, we didn't notice it. Bed coverings consisted of a sheet and a down quilt, so we were either really warm or chilly, throwing the quilt on and off during the night. A light blanket would have been fine over the top sheet for the mild weather we experienced in Sacramento.

Review 97:Vagabond Inn in Old Town Sacramento was a charming area. Old buildings have classic architecture and are well-maintained. The Inn itself is old, but was quiet, bed was comfortable, we had everything we needed. Staff was very accommodating. Breakfast was great. The hotel has the restaurant next door cater the breakfast, so there was a wide variety of food to choose from. It was the best full breakfast we'd had in a hotel on this trip.

Review 98:I had booked the room months ago through booking.com. I booked this hotel because you don't need to pay until you get there. The girl at the desk said no, that does not happen, it is already paid for. I tried to tell her differently, but she wouldn't listen. I was charged the following day which was fine, but it would have been more convenient to have paid when we checked in since we were splitting the bill.

Review 99:The beds and comforters were so comfortable!!!

Review 100:Room had a very strong odor that gave me a bad headache & it was full of dust. Furniture had a lot of stains. Breakfast was mediocre. Staff was inefficient.

Review 101:Very close to my job site.

Review 102:Need to walk around block to hotel entrance. Very strong chemical smell from cleaners in room. Noisy- by freeway on ramp, earplugs were provided.

Review 103:Close to Amtrak.

Review 104:Our room was very noisy, but we were close to a busy road - ask for a room at the rear (there's no view to spoil so don't worry!)

Review 105:The bed is super comfortable and the bedding was scrupulously clean. It's very handy for old town Sacramento and the railway station

Review 106:Older property. Not what I expected based on the Booking.com reviews. Old town is dead at night and doesn't feel safe.

Review 107:Good location off thevhighway but a bit of a sketchy area.

Review 108:The demolition of most of the plaza and emptiness of many surrounding stores was disappointing.

Review 109:The location for Old Sac was very good. We enjoyed the breakfast and attentiveness of the staff who served it.

Review 110:A bit noisy if you have a backside room being it's right next to the freeway.

Review 111:Nice breakfast and within walking distance of the Capitol, Old Sacramento, Crocker Museum and other sites.

Review 112:The pillows were too thick.

Review 113:Loved the location of this hotel and the great shuttle service. We were across the street from the Train Museum, which we all enjoyed. From there we could walk the wooden sidewalks of the old town of Sacramento. The Sacramento River is right there, too. Fun town to visit.

Review 114:Very noisy (though I did bring ear plugs and was able to sleep). The biggest negative was the bathroom which had a weak shower and black mold growing on the ceiling.

Review 115:Great location close to Old Town and an excellent breakfast that is supplied by the restaurant next door.

Review 116:The thick pillows that hotels are using lately are a "pain in the neck", literally. :-) Thinner pillows are more comfortable.

Review 117:We loved that you could walk two blocks and be at the Train Museum. Great exhibits and upstairs is a fun area for kids with trains and train sets all set up at the museum. The hotel rooms are very quiet. We figured it was the thick walls. Old Town is a blast with the wooden sidewalks and old fashioned buildings.

Review 118:breakfast area needed more tables, electrical sockets in room did not work (2), room was not cleaned, even tho housekeeper saw us leave the room, bathroom fan was loud!!!. Room had an odor to it, like faint urine (i suspect a pet was smuggled in). TV remote was slow and stopped working the second day.

Review 119:Location was very good for us, close to sister Breakfast was very good, lots of selections and eggs, patotoes and sausage was very tasty and not from pre packages.

Review 120:reserved the room with a card that wasn't suppose to be charged but the hotel has put a pending hold on it, and also put a hold on the card that I gave them to use to pay for the room. Using booking, com for our last 8 hotels and this is the only one that has done this!

Review 121:The room was clean, the bed was comfortable

Review 122:There is security, but only on the first floor - after we checked in and went to the elevator, we found a homeless person asleep on the floor of the elevator. We avoided the elevator after that. Also, the heater was very loud. But mostly it was a comfortable stay and a good value.

Review 123:Breakfast was excellent. Grounds were nice. There is a complimentary shuttle that was excellent. Staff were very helpful.

Review 124:Building is getting a little old and tired, but it seems to be very clean and well maintained

Review 125:Pleasant staff incl front desk, breakfast server and even maintenance worker. Good hot breakfast included with stay. Price is very good for location in downtown near shopping and Old Sacramento.

Review 126:I didn't like the fact that I could not use my AAA CARD. The coffee pot in room did not work....the remote control top tv the back would not stay on....and for what I paid these all should have been working.

Review 127:I did like the fact that I was able to get a continal breakfast with the price of the room.

Review 128:Exterior needs a little tidying , windows cleaned & car park had garbage in it . Not a good first impression ! Didn,t like finding medicine from previous occupant under the bed !

Review 129:Excellent for site seeing , next to Old Sacramento & China town . Downtown just a short walk away . Great value for the location . When I arrived was a little put off by the exterior & noisy location , but was pleasantly surprised when got to our room . Not much noise once in room

Review 130:Family wanted a hotel that was in Old Town Sacramento that was affordable and walking proximity to the Capital and museums. This hotel met those needs. The staff was extremely helpful. The breakfast in a.m. was typical and good & food hot. We would stay again.

Review 131:I didn't think the bed itself was very comfortable.

Review 132:I thought the whole place was great. The breakfast was way more than I expected, it was nice having a pool and hot tub.

Review 133:The hotel is in the most perfect location for visiting Sacramento Oldtown and is also an easy walk to Downtown and Midtown for sightseeing and a eating.

Review 134:Room had kind of a musty smell. Probably because it was close to the pool.

Review 135:Much less expensive than the motel across the street and some things were nicer here. Good value for those of use who are more concerned about a good night sleep and location to the area and train station.

Review 136:Can't think of anything we didn't like from the time we arrived to check in, calls to the front desk for information. About the only thing we didn't like was the amount of traffic & one-way streets which made finding the entrance to the motel a bit difficult.

Review 137:Comfy beds, well laid out room, courteous, friendly & helpful staff, ideal location for visiting Old Sacramento with free parking. Best stay of our monthlong trip.

Review 138:Perkos closes at 10pm because of the local "element" they say. The guests were primarily tatted/pierced/purple hair types so, beware. There were more than one "shout-fests" between couples during the evening/night hours.

Review 139:The location is excellent. Perkos right next door really comes in handy.

Review 140:Next door business building and apartments had gas powered leaf blower going at 7:30 AM.

Review 141:Location, parking, staff, breakfast, clean functional room with good shower & large HD flat screen TV. Need to ask for quiet room since there is a lot of road traffic in the area.
