Reviews for Mansions on Fifth

Review 1:The staff were so welcoming and friendly. They were knowledgable about the history of the Mansions and had great advice about activities and restaurants nearby. The valet staff were prompt and accommodating. The ambiance was warm and classic. There was beautiful artwork all around. It was just before Christmas and the decorations added a festive touch. My brother and his wife had their dog along and they enjoyed their stay and found good places to walk Olive in the neighborhood. The continental breakfast breads were delicious with French press coffee and juices. They also had a wonderful breakfast menu if you preferred. They have a full bar and also food available in the afternoon and evening. We had local family members join us one night and we sat around the fireplace and felt like we were at home. The rooms were large and luxurious. They had a concert there one night for an extra charge. The Sunday brunch is bountiful-a great send off to a Steelers game.

Review 2:Fireplace not working...remote had been taken

Review 3:There was no reservation in their system from booking.com despite being booked 3 days earlier but they gave us a great room so we were fortunate they were nor full

Review 4:Only negative was trying to find a sign to know where to turn in but, honestly, if they did that I feel it'd take away from the elegance of it all.

Review 5:Um...EVERYTHING! Blown away doesn't even reach the level of excitement this place gave us!

Review 6:The so-called breakfast was very disappointing. It consisted of a very small basket of very small mediocre pastries, one of which was inedible. I had booked and paid for a package that included breakfast. There was no mention that the breakfast was only pastries, or that it was a continental breakfast. I would be embarrassed to serve that to my guests.

Review 7:The room and bed were very nice,

Review 8:If I had to pick something, I would just say another mirror or bigger mirror in our room. There were three girls in the one bathroom, which was a great size, just not a large mirror

Review 9:Loved the location and the fact we stayed in a historic building. The staff accommodated my friends and I, and I had no issues asking if we could have 1-2 extra people in the room. So worth the $$!

Review 10:Nice old, renovated building with a good location within the University quarters. Very individual and an alternative to the "always the same" premiere Hotels. The rooms are similar individual as is the service/staff and they give their best to make your stay comfortable.

Review 11:For the money we felt that small conveniences were missing. Parking, checking-in, checking-out, getting coffee, were all a bit of a production. Every time we went to the lobby there was another event going on and we felt a bit in the way. A good concept but it feels like the staff is trying to do too much at the same time in a small place.

Review 12:A cool place to stay, we liked the feel of the historic mansion. The location is great for access to all the shops, bars, and restaurants in Shadyside.

Review 13:Staff was not the friendliest. The small mansion, where I stayed in an attic room was ok but nothing impressive. Common spaces could be really nice with a little polishing/decorating. Didnt sleep well. I was kept awake all night by an animal (squirrel maybe???) struggling, scratching and gnawing within the wall. So tired, I thought I could sleep through it but the noise continued to get worse. In the morning I informed the front desk about the issue as well as the ironing board which broke and collapsed as I was using it. Received a rather weak apology. They "so generously" offered us two free cocktails with brunch. ? the brunch was interesting but I expected better for the cost. I've had much better.

Review 14:The main mansion is beautiful. Very convenient location. My son attends Carnegie just around the corner. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. I believe I would have slept well if it hadn't been for the animal (a squirrel maybe?) struggling, scratching and gnawing within the wall all night. Lovely music during brunch. Great coffee.

Review 15:The attention to detail was not there...shower floor was discolored, white shower curtain had a yellow stain on it. Items in the room were not crisp and clean, such as the towels, bedding, sink etc. Nothing was "dirty", but it was marginal. Breakfast was misleading..it included a basket of dry breads and coffee...Really for the extra money for the "breakfast included" it was a rip-off? It was not an English breakfast. The staff was friendly, but again their black attire was not required to be ironed and appearance was not crisp and clean. Overall, the location had so much potential, and it would not have taken much to make it great. Perhaps, they should send someone to the Disney School of Management?

Review 16:Loved the location and atmosphere of the old homes.

Review 17:While the rooms were clean they were small and needed what should be easy upgrades. The caulking in the shower, for example, had mildew; the tiles around the fireplace (which didn't work) were cracked. The WORST part was that there was a wedding one of the evenings and loud music and yelling until 11:30 PM. Yikes!!

Review 18:Cool old place with lots of character. Staff was fantastic!

Review 19:D breakfast included was unclear. The finishings were not as high-quality as the original building itself. The website does not make it clear if you are booked in the large stone mansion or the smaller brick home.

Review 20:The character of the building was second to none.

Review 21:Booked two rooms for two couples. Got one room in the mansion, however , the other was in the adjacent building, which was a disappointment.

Review 22:The grand feeling of the mansion public spaces. Good breakfast.

Review 23:The house was lovely, there were artists doing painting with live dancers. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxing. Live soft piano music in the evening and during brunch. The food was delicious and unique kinds & presentations. Just an elegant old home for a perfect weekend retreat.

Review 24:No fridge in room, but one near room. Our room a bit small but they have all kinds.

Review 25:Of course the main hotel building in a 'robber baron' mansion nicely renovated in keeping with the original. Welcome given by staff and owner and the special 'concert' given that evening in the main foyer..Parking on premise.Lots of common spaces in magnificent rooms.

Review 26:The staff was extremely friendly, courteous, prompt and so accommodating. Much more than you'd normally expect. The food and drinks were fantastic.

Review 27:It was dirty. And we paid for breakfast included and got a small basket of four pastry and two Muffins. There were sheet rolled up and stuffed with a pillow in the ottoman and you could not see out the filthy windows. We paid for the parking which was a dirt gravel lot. Way over priced

Review 28:Staff

Review 29:Housekeeping of the rooms need to improve significantly. At 5:00 Pm the room was still not cleaned even though a Please Service sign was left on the doorknob since 10:00AM.One day, a big bag of trash was left on the bathroom's floor. Doors need a fresh coat of paint. They had black scratches all over the surface.

Review 30:We liked the location of the property. Also, staff was very professional, helpful and receptive to guests' needs. All of them, without exception, went above and beyond their duties at all times. Kudos to bartender Prescott, and lobby personnel. Loved the dance art gallery displayed. We felt very welcomed!

Review 31:Our room was so dusty that I took a photo and u can actually see thedust in the photo. There was a huge spider web above the window crowning(I was really afraid to sleep in my room). And, there was black mold inthe shower so I didn't even take a shower til I arrived at my nextdestination. I requested for my room to be changed, but the front deskclerk Vanessa didn't do a courtesy upgrade because she said the roomcost more. We arrived around 10:30pm, so I don't know who she callherself saving that room for, she could have done the upgrade at noadditional charge because of the hotel's inability to provide aclean room and shower during u stay. I was very unhappy and it was notworth the money they asked for. My fiancé and I always stay at 4-5 starhotels, so we are used to great service and clean facilities. I will notstay again.

Review 32:Architectural structure

Review 33:My room was not serviced and I came back late at night to un-serviced room.

Review 34:The setting is beautiful. I enjoy the old mansion and the beautify of the decor.

Review 35:The wifi works terribly. And phones do not work in the room. Living in a separate house you have to reach the front desk either by mobile or walking there. Quite weird for 4 star hotel.

Review 36:Nice and helpful staff. The room and house is well decorated, with good taste and cultural heritage. Bathroom is big and clean, comfortable shower. We also like the location.

Review 37:Very welcoming staff. Someone always available to help. Pulled into parking lot and staff were immediately there to get bags to room. Very accommodating!

Review 38:Should have been told there was a wedding going on and we wouldn't be able to use the facilities, staff was cranky and exhausted. Place needs a good bucket of Murphy's soap. At one point we went to the bar to get a drink, but the bartender had an emergency and left and no one else could open a bottle of beer?!

Review 39:Eric saved us from feeling unwelcome. Room was large, comfortable and clean!

Review 40:The friendly and helpful staff were the highlight if this hotel! Especially Jayce at the front desk and Scotty at the bar. Everyone is keen to help make sure you are feeling satisfied and very quick to tend to any of your needs at any time of the day/night.

Review 41:The personal attention from the friendly and efficient staff. The proximity to the universities is an added bonus. Also, it was very peaceful and quiet, considering it is located on a major thoroughfare.

Review 42:No real problem but you must use stairs to get to our room. Just part of an older mansion.

Review 43:Small and friendly but not as social as a bed and breakfast.

Review 44:For people who need these facilities -- no bathtub and no elevator, but I am totally fine with these.

Review 45:The atmosphere brought by the historic building and its classic interior.

Review 46:"Valet Parking" was $11 a night. There was no valet and everytime we left or entered we parked ourselves. Usually in the mud and in the back of the house. My family and I walked into the bar and the bartender couldn't be bothered to even say hello, so we didn't stay for drinks. I'm not sure I got the value out of my nearly $300 stay (1 night). I probably won't be back unless they change their rates.

Review 47:The house is beautiful and the rooms are clean and comfortable.

Review 48:Breakfast was not good. The croissants were stale and the sausage and eggs were not good either. The eggs were well done (asked for over easy), the bangers looked and tasted like they were 3 days old and the potatoes were skimpy. The advertised "fresh squeezed orange juice" wasn't fresh (tasted like bottled juice).

Review 49:Friendly staff.

Review 50:Mansion is beautifully restored in a residential neighbourhood, walking distance to many sites, restaurants, and museums. Very friendly staff as well.

Review 51:This place was okay, but the mansion shown wasn't where they put the guest, when we arrived we thought wow this place is nice, but once checked in we were informed we were actually staying in the building behind, which was a little run down and simple things like the main entrance door to the building wouldn't shut correctly, so anyone from the street could enter at any time of the day, So my advice to anyone booking would be to make sure you request the mansion shown on the website and booking sites, also it was a little noisy so maybe some earplugs would be a good idea.

Review 52:The check in process was confused - they had errors in my booking. Also, our room was not in the "mansion", but rather a less than appealing building next door. Furthermore, our AC didn't work in our room.

Review 53:The complimentary basket of breakfast pastries all were sweets -- would have liked some other breads, muffins or biscuits that weren't. The items we had from the breakfast menu were excellent and very attractively presented.

Review 54:Outstanding service. Staff was very helpful with one member of our party who was in a wheelchair.

Review 55:Not provided with specific room the hotel emailed they had reserved for us. Substitute room sub-standard and dusty with peeling paint on windowsills and wainscoting. Daily parking fee for vehicle parked in driveway behind hotel in undesignated spaces. Daily fee for rollaway bed which needed to be provided because original reserved room not available.

Review 56:Excellent location, beautiful old building with original turn of the century architectural features.

Review 57:There is no information to dial the helpdesk. The internet is slow. The TV sometimes work and others not. It is too expensive for a room located in the third floor of the additional house.

Review 58:The breakfast is very good

Review 59:There was a mixup (not our fault) with the booking and a reluctance to put us in a better room which was the only one available. Wood features beautiful but dark.

Review 60:Loved the ambiance of an historical house

Review 61:Auxiliary heater in room tended to dry the air out. While not a concern for us, some folks would have a little trouble with access to third floor rooms.

Review 62:Old world ambiance. Bed was very cofortable. bathroom was large and accommodating. Everyone on staff was very attentive.

Review 63:The snowstorm in which we arrived...

Review 64:This stately mansion takes you back to a very elegant time in Pittsburgh history and makes you feel like you're part of it. Painstakingly restored, this local gem retains the sophisticated charm and beautiful woodworking of its original purpose. Great service and loved the working fireplaces. Felt like a private club/resort that took us far away from our home only 12 miles away. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 65:My daughter and I felt pampered while staying at the Mansion on Fifth. The owners and staff were welcoming and helpful creating an intimate experience; giving us a tour of this historic home from the wine cellar up to the chapel. I would recommend cocktails by the fire accompanied with their delicious appetizers; followed the next morning enjoying their delicious breakfast choices in one of their beautifully adorned dining rooms.

Review 66:When booking make sure to ask which house the booking is for, can be somewhat misleading that your room will be in main house-property actually has two homes on site.

Review 67:Beautiful boutique hotel, friendly staff, bartender makes excellent prosecco cocktails.

Review 68:Water pressure

Review 69:Style and comfort of the hotel. Having a drink by a fireplace is not something you can find anywhere. The staff and service were outstanding.

Review 70:There is nothing that I could possibly criticize.

Review 71:Every need was considered without hesitation. Every feature of the hotel was to a very high standard. The magnificent appearance of the historic mansion was not compromised in any way despite the presence of every modern convenience.

Review 72:The only thing we could recommend is to have someone dust every day since there is so much beautiful woodwork.

Review 73:Extremely friendly and helpful staff in accommodating everything we needed from parking our car, recommending a local restaurant for dinner, to making sure we were comfy in our room.

Review 74:Room was a little smaller than the pictures looked, but was still very nice.

Review 75:Very beautiful, comfortable, friendly staff, offered to upgrade us to a bigger room in the 2nd mansion (we declined).

Review 76:a little dusty. room fire place dirty not a good look need to change look. clean all the windows.

Review 77:staff was great. cool house. very cozy environment. excellent service

Review 78:the air condition / heating cannot be switched off and is a bit noisy in the night.

Review 79:Outstanding staff that makes every guest fee special. atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere in ever part of the Manson. you feel like being at th home of one of the steel barons in the 19th' century. The bartender scott is very good company to solve all the world's problems over a glas of Scotch infront of the open fireplace.

Review 80:the hotel was great , but the receptionist was un professional. they charged different room inclease price and double charge for tax and parking fee.

Review 81:I loved when I walked in the place everyone was friendly and helpful. I liked the cozyness of the older home.

Review 82:They did not clean the room and the bathroom shower curtain was molded

Review 83:Staff was ok

Review 84:Room temperature is set too low, and you can't adjusted.

Review 85:It's a historical site. Very interesting.

Review 86:cost 700 one night

Review 87:very nice place an people

Review 88:Charged for valet parking and we parked our car ourselves

Review 89:The whole experience was great. Beautiful mansion with character. The breakfast was excellent as well. Just an overall great experience!!

Review 90:The hotel was beautiful. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The location is close enough to walk to Pitt and to Shadyside.

Review 95:Breakfast for vegetarians??????

Review 96:Location and staff. Decor Quiet. Peaceful.

Review 97:Great service. Great food!

Review 98:Unique character of the hotel.Reception staff were extremely helpful with a special request.

Review 99:The breakfast which is included is not much of a breakfast. Be prepared and spend the extra money to have a traditional breakfast.

Review 100:Street noise interrupted sleep throughout the night..

Review 101:Loved the structure.

Review 102:The breakfast is poor if you do not order anything from the menu. This came as a surprise since we thought that everything was included

Review 103:Evrything

Review 104:The room and the service.

Review 105:Ground were not as nice as they should be. Rest of the area was beautifully taken care of.

Review 106:The early 1900's feel to the inside.

Review 107:Staff was great, helping us with luggage and locations for my gf dining. Arrived in a downpour and still the staff was there!

Review 108:- Breakfast is not self service

Review 109:- Room was quiet and clean with a very comfortable bed - Big bathroom with bath and tube

Review 110:Difficult to rest with children running up and down steps

Review 111:French Toast was made with raisin bread but not listed on menu that way. Don't like raisins.

Review 112:Location was great to Shadyside and CMU.

Review 113:Some areas of the room are dirty have a lot of dust such as the room floor , space heaters etc.
