Reviews for Modà Antica Locanda

Review 1:A bit of drive from the center of San Marino, but didn't bother us much.

Review 2:Big and beautiful room with a view of San Marino. Good selection of breakfast. The staff brought it to our room in the morning. We used the spa and rested well.

Review 3:Huge rooms with lovely decoration and the biggest bathroom I've seen in a hotel! Great communication and the staff are really aawesome and super friendly. Plus you get 1/2 price parking coupon for town if you are driving (a car very handy to have). Breakfast was usual Italian and the coffee fantastic!

Review 4:Without a car difficult to get to the city, which is 15 mins drive Restaurant is not within walking distance but parking there is good. Breakfast is nicely displayed - very tasty but all dry goods - no fresh fruit or cold cuts but the coffee is excellent. Be sure to give San Marino card to parking payment for 50% off fee.

Review 5:Easy to find (by car - narrow lane is 1 way, hotel is at the other end); safe parking around hotel;small entrance has different sign than expected; Mo Da; large individually decorated rooms in palazzo style (the ceilings!); bathrooms very well appointed; comfortable beds; upper rooms have view of citadel;quiet area;. Nice bar within hotel; very friendly & helpful staff ; San Marino Card given free for museum discounts etc.; advice on parking in the city.Advice on local restaurant. Great stay. Thank you!.

Review 6:Got a bit lost on the way with the GPS as it takes you through an unpaved road - best to contact the hotel or take the longer route via the main road to get there.

Review 7:Best hotel. We got a very nice room, big, beautiful views, spa bath, everything was perfect. The staff was the friendliest I've seen and told us so much about San Marino. Would definitely go back and spend longer there.

Review 8:WiFi sometimes is not working properly, breakfast could be improved, regarding the quality of products

Review 9:Quiet location with free parking, nice and clean environment, comfortable room, extremely nice staff

Review 10:Only 2 things come to mind: 1. Maybe it would have been great to have mosquito nets on the windows, but this would affect the view. 2. A more varied breakfast, even though it is already more than enough for the price we paid for the room.

Review 11:Very good position if you are looking to spend the night in a quiet area with a good view. You can see all 3 castles from the balcony or from a small park/lookout area about 20 meters away from the hotel. The man at the reception was very knowledgeable and friendly, helped us out with some tips and suggestions. The rooms are large and comfortable.

Review 12:We loved the location in the little village. It was so quiet and peaceful, but you will need a car. The hotel staff were so helpful, they even stayed late to let us in when we got lost.

Review 13:The hotel staff was great! They were both personable and helpful. The hotel is in a perfect location...not too close and not too far from the Centro Storico (Historic Center) of San Marino. Perfect for a relaxing vacation in San Marino.

Review 14:The bus is very unreliable.

Review 15:Beautiful place. Very friendly people. There is table football in the town square and the locals were playing cards in the cafe. The staff speaks english.

Review 16:Wi-fi signal is great, but the connection (from multiple devices) was really weak for some reason

Review 17:Fancy and comfortable place, super helpful and nice staff, great breakfast. Rooms (we were taking two twins) were gorgeous with spacious bathrooms. Situated not in the centre of everything, but that gave us a great oportunity to check out more pereferical districts that are also adorable. Easy access to historical centre by car. Favourite stay so far!

Review 18:The windows in our room were closed by blinders and we could not open them by ourselves, so it was like no-window room. There were strange sounds at night that bothered us to fall asleep. No tee facilities in the room and no place to get tea if it's already late in te night

Review 19:The staff was helpful and told us all we wanted to know about San Marino, the room was very big, and so was the bathroom. Though located not in San Marino capital the hotel was only 5-10 min away by car from the capital city.

Review 20:The breakfast had little variety but by 5.00 euros per person was enough! 7 points.

Review 21:We liked the room and the bathroom! Are large and clean although a little lack of glamour! 8 points. The staff was very friendly and kind! 10 points. The place is nice but a little bit far from the city centre! 8 points.

Review 22:They say that the bus stop to Rimini is 200 metres away from the hotel. That's misleading, as there is no direct bus to Rimini from Montegiardino (where they are). The nearby bus stop is only to Borgo Maggiore or the main city, from where you have to catch another bus to Rimini. Not advisable at all for anyone not having their own transport. Restaurant was closed, so nothing much to eat around. As for the hotel itself, it is just a modern structure with not much of flavour or soul.

Review 23:The cafe Vecchia Scuola nearby is a very nice place, run by nice people.

Review 24:Hotel staff were very friendly, nothing was a problem to them. The room was cleaned every day. The quiet location of the hotel made our stay very enjoyable. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 25:Amazing small hotel-boutique. We took the most expensive room as it was on offer. It's spacious, with great bathroom. Be careful, have a look at the time until you can check-in. It was 20.30 and I didn't pay attention to it when booking. We had to change our plans a bit to be on time. This place is perfect for people with a car. Free parking around, about 8 km to the capital of San-Marino.

Review 26:There was nothing we didn't like about this hotel.

Review 27:What a delightful surprise after the past disappointments of previous hotels at which we had stayed. Ivan was most friendly, courteous and helpful and suggested fabulous at which to eat because their restaurant was closed that night. The setting of the hotel was fairy tale, in a cobbled street of the old part of Giardino, and 3 rooms, yes 3 including the bathroom clean and super spacious, enormous, in fact. Breakfast was typically Italian, heaps of sweets and cooked ham and cheese. Coffee and tea was made by Ivan at the bar. Nothing was a problem for Ivan, you only had to ask. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and the price was jaw droppingly cheap. Best ever

Review 28:Everything about this place was fantastic. We loved that there were only 5 rooms - it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Walked around to find out we were outside the castle walls. Walked to the park and sat under the trees while rain gently fell on the leaves. Breakfast was great and dinner deeeee-licious! We'd stay here again (and again)!

Review 29:Hotel is located in the church, very authentic. Close to San Marino. Clean. Entrance to the hotel is not really comfortable, but not too bad. Recommends. מלון נמצא בכנסיה, מאוד אותנטי. קרוב לסן מרינו. נקי. כניסה למלון לא כול כך נוחה אבל לא נורא. ממליץ.

Review 30:A welcoming staff in a charming small boutique hotel. The rooms are spacious, nicely decorated and tidy. The food is excellent and the staff also gladly prepared us an "aperitivo".

Review 31:Limited menu although plentiful

Review 32:Stunning views. Beautifully restored and comfortable locanda. Full of character. Warm welcome and could not have been more helpful with information and directions. Would definitely go back.

Review 33:the weather was a bit cold and rainy but because of a local law we couldn't have the heat on.

Review 34:the room was huge and the view magnificent. very comfortable bed. very close to San Marino centre by motorbike, excellent breakfast, very helpfull staff.

Review 35:The only thing is that it is in a very tiny village and there are no facilities there, but that did not bother us because we had our car with us so everywhere was accessable

Review 36:The hotels rooms were excellent and a really too size also the bathroom was large

Review 37:Two things we didn´t like: 1 - At night we were tired and thought of having dinner at the hotel. We were quite slow getting ready and when we got downstairs it was 21.03h. When we asked if we could have dinner we were informed that dinner service had finished at 21h... We understand that it is a pain to start cooking again and all, but in a town where there was nothing else opened and for 3 minutes, we expected the hotel to be flexible and prepare a small meal, nothing fancy. Instead we had to drive to other towns to find a restaurant. 2 - the morning of our departure we got confused with the check out time and weren´t ready to leave the room when the time came. The hotel management was understanding and allowed us the time to pack in peace but the cleaning lady was properly angry at us, looking incredibly upset and banging the doors... We found it a bit excessive. As i say, in both situations we admit our fault in not fully respecting the hours of the hotel both for dinner and check out - but in the particular conditions of this hotel and because everything else was such great quality, we expected a bit more understanding and flexibility. But we would stay there again if we ever go back to SM!

Review 38:It is odd that the hotel is advertised as being in San Marino, when in fact is not, it is in one of the other castles that constitute the country - Montegiordano. Therefore is far from the centre of SM. Which, for us, was a good thing, SM itself is a bit of a tourist town while in Montegiordano and in this hotel we really enjoyed feeling the San Marino where the locals live. The room was super spatious, beautiful bedroom and bathroom with bathtub! If you have a car - and you NEED a car to get here, than this is a great choice for hotel in SM.

Review 39:Everything was first class.....nothing not to like! Greattttttttttttttttttt

Review 40:What a gem! From the moment we arrived we felt like family....Ivan and Carlo made us so welcome even Sam the village cat came to see us....we never knew that San Merino was the smallest republic in the world....the castle on the hill is a "must see" and the history is unbelievable .....12 outa 10 boys!! Thank you from Australia.Michael and Debbie

Review 41:The shower could be updated maybe! But worked fine.

Review 42:The location, the lovely old building beautifully renovated - all public areas and rooms bright and combining traditional features with modern, friendly and helpful staff, and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was good, but fresh fruit would have been a good adddition. Didn't try the inhouse restaurant, but would be glad of it if we stayed longer.

Review 43:You need a car if staying here we did not cost 25 euro to get taxi ...can get bus but you will have to find out information yourself go totourist office in San Marino they will help you... Its a good 15/20minutes from San Marino city... They say free Mimi bar but its only 2bottles of water....

Review 44:Staff was brilliant so helpfull and kind lovely breakfast fabulous viewover all we enjoyed our stay here..

Review 45:Nearly inpossible to find as the hotel is not in San Marino city as they say but approx. 10 km from it in a small village. There are no signs and nobody knows the hotel with this name. The reason my be that the real name of this hotel is different then stated on booking.com :-)

Review 46:Nice building and interiors. Very friendly bar owner next to this hotel on the same square.

Review 47:Beautiful and tranquil. By car, the trip to the three towers was only about 15 minutes. There is local transit, too, costing only 1€ per person. This is great value. The traveler must be organized in order to determine the route, as well as to locate the bus stops.

Review 48:The staff was very friendly and explained us everything that we neededto know for first visit in San Marino. It is quite close the historiccenter, just about 5 minutes by car. Hotel is in a very quiet place andwith nice views. The whole hotel looked very elegant and not only nice,it could even be called luxurious. Even though it is very small, itdidn't look like anything was missing! Breakfast was tasty and wasalso served very nicely.

Review 49:Unless you had use of a car there wouldn't be much for you to do unless you spend a lot on taxi's.

Review 50:The staff were excellent. Very helpful in giving information about the local area and friendly. The food was delicious although a limited choice for vegetarians. This would be a perfect overnight or weekend stay if you want to travel through Italy. The accommodation was a very high standard and the attention to detail in how everything was presented in the restaurant and bar area was beautiful. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 51:The thing for keeping flying insects out, when opening window didn't work very well.

Review 52:The apartment was nice and clean. The view was amazing and location was very beautiful.

Review 53:Just one small thing, we were in room 4 with a lovely terrence a coupe of chairs and a table would have been nice to appreciate the view and weather

Review 54:We thought it was a gem, lovely location, lovely building, staff were really helpful and friendly. The room was spotless. The meal was lovely. Just perfect. We only stayed for one night we would have liked to stay longer. Thank you

Review 79:The bed was comfy and the staff helpfull.

Review 80:There was nothing not to like.

Review 81:The comfort, the amenities, the breakfast and the friendliness of the staff.

Review 82:It was a little hard to find. Would be nice for a bigger sign on the wall outside.

Review 83:Very clean facilities; onsite restaurant, spacious rooms/suites

Review 84:It is a litlle difficult to find the hotel.

Review 85:Friendly staff Great restaurant Spacious rooms Jacuzzi in the bathroom

Review 86:Little bit of a funny smell in bathroom

Review 87:The atmosphere Space Nice and quiet Nice to have spacious kitchen.

Review 88:In the middle of nowhere A bar but no seats No choice of snacks and nowhere close to get anything

Review 89:helpful and caring staff nice comfortable room great hotel restaurant

Review 90:Nothing.

Review 91:Perfectly nice appartment near the hotel. Friendly people.

Review 92:Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were nice, clean, and well maintained.

Review 93:nothing not to like.

Review 94:The location was about 5-7 minutes from San Marino center, with a fabulous view of the main hills. The room was exceptionally large and clean, yet inexpensive. Staff were great. Also there was on-site parking!

Review 95:The staff was so helpful. They were wonderful.....made us feel very welcome! The restaurant was delicious.......order the steak and local wine....delicious!

Review 96:The room was excellent; large, clean, and well-furnished. Views out the windows were breathtaking. Staff were exceptional. We have never received better service at any hotel. They made our stay perfect. Location is outside of San Marino City proper, and is best suited to travelers with their own cars. Otherwise reachable by taxi. Breakfast was varied and fantastic. Coffee was great. Highly recommended.

Review 97:Dinner in the restaurant was terrible: we ordered the seafood platter which was overpriced and completely overcooked

Review 98:Excellent place; very spacious and beautiful view;

Review 99:I liked it all :)

Review 100:The location, the staff, the ambience and the building itself were all wonderful. Very old and tastefully done up inside. Good restaurant, too.

Review 101:This is miles away from the centre it cost us 50 euros in cabs to an from the centre. Not well advertised that this is the case. Unfortunate and the room overlooked a building site:-(

Review 102:Hard to find. Our meal was very good quality but the second two dishes were cold and the restaurant was not the busy.. Low season and only one person on staff .. Maybe? Music - not suitable for the venue, the same almost everywhere we have been, a shame. O.K. Breakfast, but not top notch.. Pkg cereals as apposed to homemade granola as an one option. Pkg jams as we have seen local very good quality over that last month. Meats and cheese and sweets, but cakes were too dry, stale.. So room for improvement .

Review 103:Quiet and tastefully appointed with lots of character.Attentive reception staff. Huge rooms and a bath tub!

Review 104:The only detractor to our stay was the hairball that was blocking the drain in the tub.

Review 105:A fabulous place to stay. The terrace was HUGE, the sitting room comfortable, staff excellent and food was very good also. Fairly priced for the location and facilities.

Review 106:Unfortunately the cleanliness of the bathroom disappointed us. I'm convinced that it was wiped, but not cleaned properly. Breakfast could be improved further. The choices in the breakfast is one of the weaker points of such small hotels.

Review 107:An old building with nicely decorated, clean, very large and spatious rooms. The bathroom was very large too, and has a jacuzzi-bathtube. We had wanderful view over San Marino. The staff were friendly and when we arrived, we were quickly informed about San Marino, and I should point out that generally this kind of information from locals is of much value. The restaurant serves delicious local dishes and wines, so you don't need to go away for the dinner.

Review 108:This is a fantastic place to stay and a wonderful experience! The staff is really friendly and helpful and the rooms are fantastic! It is worth to visit the area just to live in this special hotel. There is also a cozy restaurant with friendly staff. We highly recommend! :)

Review 109:rooms with much comfort, one of the best hotels on our tour also a defintiv gourmet restaurant good itialian breakfast we know we are 7km away from the city.

Review 110:The hotel is really beautiful. Set in a historical palace in a small town about 10 min from the hsitorical center of San Marino. The stuff were very friendly and helpful. And the price was very reasonable. Absolute satisfaction:)

Review 111:Not a big issue but little to do in the immediate area. Historic San Marino is approximately 7km away.

Review 112:Hotel was clean, quiet and food in the restaurant was excellent.

Review 113:Nothing I didnt like.

Review 114:This is a great hotel in a small village in San Marino. We had a wonderful welcome from Ivan the owner who showed us around the small village. There is only 5 rooms in the hotel. Room 2 had a great view out over San Marinos castles and a very spacious sitting area - bathrooms were huge. Room 3 was very roomy for a triple room and had a separate wardrobe area. The rooms are completely soundproofed - although not a lot is happening in the village. The village policeman lives across the road so you feel pretty safe. This place is exactly what you think a village in Europe should look like. We spent a day in San Marino looking at the forts and then Ivan reccommended Tree Climbing for the children which was fantastic. We had dinner - fresh made pasta with a beef ragout, and really good t-bone steaks. Fresh mascapone and berries for dessert. Breakfast was good - coffee was great. Great stopover on your way from Rome to Venice.

Review 115:The hotel was cute wrapped around castle. We had three rooms a salon bedroom and bath all spotless. The staff were wonderful and very nice helped with places to see. We also had a problem with the police in San Marino who told us we needed an interntional drivers liscense or would be fined. The hotel staff discussed this with the local police and mayor told us we were ok and printed out stamped and signed documents to leave in our car. We will return to hotel with future trips.

Review 116:Unfortunately the whirlpool was not clean, so we didn't use it; The hotel is located in a small village, the main cities of San Marino are 20 minutes away with the car, the room itself was nice decorated but unfortunately the cleaning lady didn't take her job very serious

Review 117:Good breakfast, best espresso ever, very helpfull staff
