Reviews for Friendship Suites Pittsburgh

Review 1:Nothing.

Review 2:It was phenomenal; I'm going to inquire about a monthly rental for it! We had Suite #20 and it was amazing! When we go back we're definitely requesting that room again.

Review 3:All was great!

Review 4:Everything about Friendship Suites, from easy check-in, to convenient parking, to simple check-out was perfect. Incredibly clean, comfortable and just what I needed for a few days in Pittsburgh. Very walkable, safe neighborhood. Free upgrade was also welcomed.

Review 5:Everything was good. No complaints.

Review 6:We went to Pittsburgh to celebrate our daughter's birthday. As the owner of the apartment was aware of that he offered us a larger appartment with a kitchen to facilitate this time together. It was a very kind gesture.

Review 7:We came to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers put a beat down on the Oakland Raiders. The owner was friendly, the location was great and the room was very comfortable. I would definitely stay again.

Review 8:I was expecting much more after reading the reviews. My wife and I are very flexible and we rarely leave bad feedback but we did not enjoy this place. During the night there were metal noises coming from the air conditioning vent next to the bed. It was impossible for us to have a good sleep after a very long day. The problem with this place is that there is no reception/staff that you can talk to. Many days later Friendship suits still have not replied to any of my messages. With their price,I don't think this place offers any added value versus a hotel. At least in a hotel there is someone you can talk to in case there is something wrong with your stay. In a hotel you could get a continental breakfast as well. Not recommended!

Review 9:It is clean

Review 10:The bed.

Review 11:Mr Cox was extremely helpful and friendly, we were lucky to get a last minute cancellation on the Saturday night before a Steelers game. The room and amenities were perfectly adequate. The bed was little rough but that might just be our preference is different.

Review 12:It is in a great location for us when we travel to Pittsburgh to visit family. The place is always spotless clean and the bath towels are thick, soft.

Review 13:What a great find! The room had everything we needed, was extremely clean and comfortable, and was a fun alternative to a traditional hotel. It made us feel more a part of the city during our first visit to Pittsburgh. Thank you. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 14:Parking is a little tricky in the lot as it is a tight squeeze, but it had improved by our second visit.

Review 15:Great suites convenient to Pitt, CMU, UPMC. Second stay at Friendship Inn and it is nice to have plenty of room when visiting our son at Pitt. Used laundry facilities as well. Staff members are friendly and helpful. Suites are in houses on a residential street but not far from shopping.

Review 16:Beautiful 1 bedroom suite in a grand old house. Lovely neighborhood. Very easy process - all done on line so no need to bother staff if one is checking in late. Close to University. Glad they assigned parking spaces and gave explicit directions - parking is tight.

Review 17:We are from a smaller city then Pittsburgh so we are not familiar with the area. The place itself was well kept but the neighborhood was a bit sketchy for us.

Review 18:The owner was very nice and accommodating. It was clean, roomy and a nice place for the price.

Review 19:The living room room furniture is due to be replaced and the second bedroom lacked AC but it was not needed during our stay.

Review 20:Everything else was perfect. I would stay here again. When you don't need the amenities of a hotel, why pay for them?

Review 21:The beds were a bit soft. There was no air conditioner in one of the bedrooms but there was a ceiling fan.

Review 22:Everything you would expect in a hotel room (plenty of towels, shampoo), plus a fully equipped kitchen. NICE decor! Plenty of seating in the living room and at the dining table.

Review 23:No summary of charges paperwork is provided since there is no lobby or staff in this converted older house. That does help keep costs down, however.

Review 24:Clean and spacious. We only stayed one night so we did not need a kitchen and eating area, but it would work well for a guest staying for several days. The off street parking is secure but somewhat difficult to maneuver in departing the lot.

Review 25:Everything was excellent. The only downfall was having a full size 4 door pickup that wouldn't fit in the parking lot. The owner answered his cell phone the first time we called and directed us to park on the street right in front of our building so the situation was resolved immediately.

Review 26:Clean rooms, comfortable beds, felt like I was at home.

Review 27:Parking is rough if you have a large vehicle, but hey its pittsburgh at least.you have your own designated spot

Review 28:Nice neighborhood.. Very very cozy rooms! Clean!

Review 29:Somewhat noisy at times - but then, we're not now use to living in an urban area like Oakland. Not sure about T.V. or how much bandwidth was available on WiFi.

Review 30:Price for the location and pleasant surroundings is far superior to nearby hotels. Off street parking was welcome.

Review 31:A notice to pack your own shampoo etc, maybe a bit more toilet paper :)

Review 32:Friendship suites was comfortable clean and very conveniently located we will absolutely return for a visit.

Review 33:Never saw another person while we were there. Did talk to Bob to get better instructions on location. Need signage facing the main thoroughfare.

Review 34:The room was immaculate and very accomodating. Very quiet, not noisy like most hotels.

Review 35:The building was definitely older and the decor of the building as a whole (main area, hallways) looked like it jumped out of the 70s. The rooms/suites are in an old Victorian-style house, so if you are on the 3rd floor (like I was) you end up dragging your luggage up a couple flights of stairs.

Review 36:The property is in a central location, but quiet, and is a great value. The room was very clean and I had a designated parking space.

Review 37:We've been going to Pittsburgh for years as our daughter lives in this neighborhood and somehow never found this place. It's wonderful. The owner has paid very careful attention to detail. It's beautifully furnished and the kitchen is very well stocked with all the utensils and cookware that you would ever need. It really felt like a home away from home!

Review 38:Cable TV was a little lacking, but I was not there for TV watching.

Review 39:Low fuss and streamlined check-in and check-out. More like a visit to someone's house rather than a hotel with lines.

Review 40:Very comfortable room with everything you could possibly need. There was even a laundry basket in the closet! One of the cleanest places I have ever stayed. Parking was available and free!

Review 41:The place was perfect for the night and never had an experience where someone gave out there personal number and made sure the accommodonations were satisfying.

Review 42:The room was masiv overheated - eaven it was a very cold day / night - we where boiling in this room, - and we could not regulate the temperature ourself.

Review 43:No complaints

Review 44:The suites are located in a nice residential part of town. We walked to dinner and several bars during our stay and always felt safe. The rooms were nicely finished and clean. It got down to -6 during our stay but the rooms stayed warm and comfortable

Review 45:My only request is that both bedrooms have a TV instead of just one.

Review 46:The suite was incredible! Great location, clean, and huge inside. Everything about Friendship Suites made our stay one that we can't wait to have again!

Review 47:I have no real negative

Review 48:I feel that Mr Cox is a great person that attempts to please at every chance. I would recommend this facility to anyone that needs a great place to stay that is close to Pittsburgh must see attractions

Review 49:As we experienced during our last stay, the staff was attentive and the accommodations were spotlessly clean and comfortable. I highly recommend Friendship Suites as the place to stay in Pittsburgh. We enjoy having the extra space of a living/dining area and kitchenette. The location is perfect for our needs with gas stations nearby and grocery stores (2), coffee shops (2) and a pharmacy all within easy walking distance. The availability of free, off-street private parking is an added bonus.

Review 50:Wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 51:Friendship Suites offered everything you need-free Wifi, flat screen TV, iron, hairdryer - quiet, secure- a bed and breakfast feel with make your own breakfast in your fully equipped kitchen (you provide the food/no problem)

Review 52:Nothing. We are already recommending Friendship Suites to friends and family.

Review 53:After reading the glowing reviews our expectations were pretty high. Even so, we were 'wow'-ed from the moment we walked in. Our two-bedroom apartment was spacious, gorgeous, and eat-off-the-floor immaculate. Every detail of both the decor and provided conveniences were attended to well beyond our already heightened expectations. These are exceptionally well-renovated large, older homes on narrow city streets. Off street parking is provided, but as with older neighborhoods, the driveways are narrow and require some maneuvering. Unless you are completely averse to cautious parking maneuvering, Friendship Suites is absolutely the place to stay in Pittsburgh. I only wish we had been staying for weeks instead of a single day.

Review 54:There's nothing negative about Freindship Suites.

Review 55:EVERYTHING. Immaculate. Quiet. Extra everything. I'll say it again. Immaculate. We were going to get in late, so the owner emailed clear, simple instructions on how to let ourselves in. He called once to see if we needed anything, and we could tell he REALLY mean't it. Super nice guy. Super nice place.

Review 56:It would be nice if the heat in the units could be controlled better. The steam heaters tend to get too hot and there was no thermostat in the units to control them. The bed mattress was too soft and caused backaches.

Review 57:The apartments were clean and had all the needed conveniences.

Review 58:We were upgraded to a one bedroom suite which was a two floor suite in excellent condition. It was extremely clean and decorated like a private home. We go to Pitt a lot and we will never stay anywhere else again. The owner is great and took care of everything personally. Highly recommended!

Review 59:A bit far from ACTION, but uber is great in that area and you can get around easily. It does have grocery stores etc around, but if you are looking for a quiet place that is clean and a bit out of the way, then there are no negatives!

Review 60:Super clean and the owner Robert is very friendly.

Review 61:Would have liked to have known the parking situation ahead of time. Having someone right there (manning a desk) for a few hours each day would have been great.

Review 62:Location was close to what we wanted to see. It was extremely clean!

Review 63:I needed to use the kitchen for 2 days/ 2-3 meals per day and the stove and cookware was extremely old and in poor condition. Additionally, there were no seasonings - not even salt and pepper. I was not aware that there would not be and it was too burdensome and an unnecessary expense to rush out and get some. I was caught completely off guard by that. The kitchen utensils really need to be updated.

Review 64:The facilities themselves were great! Completely comfortable living space, exceptionally clean and the staff was great. Absolutely Great! I loved it here. What an absolutely convenient location. Terrific for any out-of-town guest.

Review 65:Location of Suite 5 in Building 301 has quite a bit of early morning street noise. Satellite TV signal was weak, and would go out for extended periods. Parking is available, but a bit tight.

Review 66:"Apartment" feel Privacy Ease of check-in and check-out Cost Central location

Review 67:We opened the door, and my daughter gasped, "wow"! SO different from her expectations of a hotel room, and just seeing a bed when you open the door. First glance was a dining room table with flowers, a completely stocked modern kitchen to the right, and the living room straight ahead. The art on the walls was carefully selected, and there was a print of the Van Gogh 'Cafe du Nuit', which we too have in our living room, making us feel even more at home. The living room was spacious yet cozy, with two couches, and end tables, air conditioner, and entertainment system, and . We didn't use the entertainment system because we both had homework to do, and the atmosphere was relaxingly productive and we each could work in separate rooms. On the coffeetable was a sheet of very comprehensive and useful information. Bedroom has plenty of closet and dresser space, and the shower was deliciously clean with a perfect spray faucet. After shopping for dinner, (at a great supermarket, one block away), my child cooked while I did laundry downstairs. The porch was also lovely to sit on, and the neighboring residents very nice. The owner, Mr Cox had provided us with his cellphone number, and was right in the driveway, when I had a question.

Review 68:basement room a little musty/stuffy

Review 69:price, good value. we had difficulty getting a hotel room due to events in the city and were very happy with choice to stay here.upgraded to larger unit for free at time of arrival.

Review 70:We liked everything except that our assigned parking space was one that caused us to have to back out into a heavily trafficked street. I don't have a solution for this," just saying."

Review 71:The manager, Robert Cox, was personable and helpful way beyond our expectation. He seemed truly concerned that we had every comfort and that everything was as it should be. He responded to all questions and requests with promptitude and courtesy.

Review 72:Nothing!

Review 73:The owner, Robert Cox, was very friendly and accommodating over email. Check-in was tremendously convenient - after receiving the codes and information, I could enter my room immediately upon arrival, without having to even talk to anyone! The room/apartment was far larger and better equipped than I expected - I didn't know what to do with the kitchen and fridge!

Review 74:If you're a light sleeper, you might be annoyed by the noise from Baum blvd or the rain during the night. Another thing I didn't personally like is that you don't get to meet any staff. You will be sent check-in and check-out instructions and your credit card is billed the next day after check-out. The process is very easy and convenient (much more than the standard hotel check-out procedure) but it gives a bad feeling like the place is entirely run by ghosts. On the plus side though, you have a number to call in case you need anything.

Review 75:I got the efficiency studio for one night. It was very spacious and comfortable. You get the owner's personal phone number for any questions or emergencies (which I thought was nice). The location is what got me into Friendship suites in the first place, but it really depends on what you're in town for.

Review 76:Our stay at the Suites and in Pittsburgh was so much fun that this comment seems out of place. However, I noticed that when we returned to our room on the second and third evening of our stay, the room felt damp as well as my clothes that were left in the room. There was no indication of mildew or mold anywhere in the room, just a very damp feeling. I suspect the air conditioner might not have been working up to par and as such was not removing the humidity from the room after our showers, etc.. I would not want to stay in this room again if that was a common occurence. But since our time in the room was so limited during our visit, it really did not create a major problem.

Review 77:A first time visitor to Pittsburgh, I chose this place because of its walking distance to Walnut Street; its close proximity to a Wholefoods supermarkent and other stores; and the availability of public transportation. I am happy to say that all of these criteria were met well above my expectations. I chose the one room basement efficiency from the very accurate photo on the website and was very pleased to find it spotlessly clean and well cared for. It was very quiet with no hint of any street noise. We really only spent time sleeping there at night and were not around during the day. We barely used the very well supplied kitchen as we took every opportunity to try out the city's varied eateries. The exterior of the house was beautifully kept with lots of flowers. Street parking was excellent even during our weekend stay and we only took advantage of the included parking in a garage for one night, it being so easy to park on the street near the house. Also, we found that the public buses to and from this neigborhood were great for getting downtown. Lastly, the owner who met us at the property was very open to questions and made us feel welcomed and available if needed. Just a FYI for the tall folks out there who might consider this room - the ceilings in this basement apartment might be too low. My adult daughter and I are quite short (5'2") so we were very comfortable but anyone in the taller ranges will feel a crunch especially in the bathtub/shower.

Review 78:Slow wifi

Review 79:Having a fully equipped kitchen was totally awesome. Also I got all info about parking and accesing the building via email. The apartment itself was big, clean and good looking.

Review 80:Unit had large window on Friendship Ave and could hear road noise all day and night. One morning someone was hollering at 6:30 am for several minutes! Air conditioning unit was right above the TV so it was hard to hear when the air was on. Also upgrading to a flat screen would be nice.

Review 81:Daughter was visiting CMU. Was very close to campus and Shadyside shopping. Unit was very clean and comfortable. Nice to be able to cook and eat in at times.

Review 82:Our assigned parking space was somewhat small for a minivan. We were instructed to back in, down a very narrow driveway and park so close to the wall, the van had to be out of the garage for the passenger to get in. Deeming this too difficult in such close quarters, especially at night, we chose to park on the street for the duration of our stay. Finding street parking was never a problem.

Review 83:The rooms were impeccably clean, quiet and very comfortable. Closet space was abundant. Having a kitchen was great and allowed us to have our own fresh coffee and breakfast daily at a low cost. We were also in close proximity (easy walking distance) to grocery stores, coffee shop and gas station. I would highly recommend these accommodations without any hesitation.

Review 84:1)Quiet. 2)3 block walk to best Belgian Pub in Pittsburgh. 3)Convenient walk to Walnut St shops and restaurants. 4)Comfortable quarters at the Suites!

Review 85:Nothing

Review 86:Location and EASY route to Schenley Park for the Pittsburgh Grand Prix. Our suite had all the amenities of home, especiallly the kitchen. We will definately stay there for next year's Grand Prix.

Review 87:The street parking was very tight, it was a narrow street. My room was on the third floor. The bathroom was very small and the shower was minuscule. A good sized adult man would have trouble fitting in there.

Review 88:Nice kitchenette area in room.

Review 89:Liked it all!

Review 90:Well first off Robert is the BEST owner of a place to stay than ANYWHERE! The houses he has transformed into suites are the most beautifully appointed of anywhere we have stayed to date, with the exception of timeshare apartments! We have traveled across the USA in our Honda Civic for the last 10 months and have stayed in MANY hotels! This by far is the BEST YET! We booked a efficiency and since it was available Robert gave us the 1BR suite as a free upgrade! What a wonderful treat! It was staying in luxury for the 3 days we were there! Robert called and checked on us frequently and knew if we needed anything he would help! No where else does that happen! Anyone who stays here will not be disappointed! Thanks Robert for everything! And just because I know he wants to know, get towel wracks for the bathroom and maybe a little shelf to set toiletries!

Review 91:The only problem was the tiny bathroom.

Review 92:I liked the location. They were very helpful with carrying the luggage to the third floor. It was very comfortable. It was nice to have free wifi.

Review 93:Pillows to flat for my taste. But, not a biggie to keep me away. I usually take my own anyway because I get headaches easily if my pillow doesn't hold my head right.

Review 94:Everything! Great Apartment for a little hotel $!
