Reviews for Bell Tower Hotel
Review 1:No view - only a very ugly alley - would have been nice if the restaurant bar was more like a true hotel bar....
Review 2:Complimentary breakfast was basic but a nice extra. Perfect location - really enjoyed not needing a car - easy to just get a taxi from metro airport and explore Ann Arbor on foot!
Review 3:We had the three room suite--2 bedrooms and living room which exactly met our needs to have a place to meet with our scholarship students. We would like to have that same facility for November 10, 11, 2016.
Review 4:My thermostat may have been broken; at first it was a little hot but then I woke up in the middle of the night and it was 80 degrees; it wouldn't go down so I opened the window. Bathroom was a bit cramped and did not smell great; also was up on a platform and the sign warning about that was very small.
Review 5:Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Location near campus and restaurants.
Review 6:Room carpeting a little tired, could hear people talking in adjacent rooms.
Review 7:Great location, friendly and helpful front desk staff, recently refurbished bathroom
Review 8:Only one negative, I'd brought a bottle of champagne to celebrate a special birthday. The front desk took it and said they'd keep it chilled and have it in our room in an ice bucket at 5:15pm. It wasn't there, and it took another half hour for it to be retrieved and delivered. They hadn't noted the time on their notes.
Review 9:The staff was responsive and pleasant. The room was large enough, though not large. The location cannot be beat.
Review 10:Staff was very helpful with all my small requests. Great location next to U of M campus allowed me to walk to everything I wanted to do. Hotel was tastefully furnished and room was comfortable.
Review 11:Small carpet stain by bed had some treatment chemical/material on top that wasn't cleaned off. Not a huge deal but might be for other guests.
Review 12:Great service, location, very easy and convenient valet. A+
Review 13:1) $200/night seemed to me to be a bit pricey compared to contemporary lodgings. I assumed that I was paying for the convenience of the location, but the room amenities, while clean and somewhat charming, did not measure up to the spacious $139 room at the Hampton Inn I experienced on the way home. I would think that $150/night would be more appropriate. 2) My renovated, modern-appearing bathroom required a step up to enter, which I didn't notice at first, resulting in an unexpected step-down when I first stepped out of it. I managed to keep my balance, but a small cautionary sign at eye level warning of the step at the bathroom entrance would be useful; The white strip at the top edge of the step, while important, was not enough of a warning in my case.
Review 14:Convenience for walking to campus meeting sites. Pleasant, helpful staff.
Review 15:The room didn't include a refrigerator. The breakfast was average, which is something I noticed in many hotels in Ann Arbor.
Review 16:The location is just perfect; in the middle of Ann Arbor. Also the hotel had that old style which I loved.
Review 17:Hotel is shabby and completely outdated. Only one elevator, and it's probably 40 years old. "Breakfast" was some synthetic scrambled eggs, bacon & home fries. Rooms are small. Two room suite has no desk, which is astonishing. Thermostat was honestly from the 1960s or 1970s and really didn't work that well. The only modern amenity offered at this hotel is WiFi, but even that was awful - very slow, and limited signal strength in general. While the staff is nice and helpful, it is a disgrace that the only truly on-campus hotel at U Mich is the Bell Tower Hotel
Review 18:Location - it's right on the U Michigan campus. If not for that, the Bell Tower Hotel couldn't possibly stay in business. It's shabby, old and outdated.
Review 19:Would have liked a mini fridge in the room - small quibble.
Review 20:Location is terrific! I liked the fact that the breakfast choices were healthy, not the usual selection of super-processed carbs. Very nice amenities in the room.
Review 21:Had higher expectations based on the price of the room and the description of the hotel.
Review 22:Great location, close to U of M campus and local businesses/eateries.
Review 23:breakfast was served on the lower level in a windowless room. sofa in our suite needs to be replaced.
Review 24:great location. lovely suite with comfortable bed.
Review 25:Bed sheets were horrible. Fitted sheets had pulls and bumps. Slept on fitted sheet and asked for another fitted sheet to put over us.
Review 26:Location was great.
Review 27:Breakfast is so simple for the price of the room. No prepared coffee, no natural stuff, no eggs (except for scrambled).... Staff is not well prepared. They call a taxi and told us that we could pay by card and we could not. They did not help with luggage. They told us a price for the room, and they modified that price the same by leaving a piece of paper under the door... The hotel can't provide a signed invoice. Very low value for money.
Review 28:The hotel is good looking, clean, the beds are confortable and it is very well located.
Review 29:I couldn't really use the free Wi-Fi of the hotel. It kept dropping my connection in the middle of the use.
Review 30:Very good breakfast with fruits, cereals, bread, eggs, potato, sausage, coffee and more.
Review 31:no swimming pool, no water in the room, no wifi signal in my room.
Review 32:confort, good facility, fitness center, nice staff, good lemon water for drink in the lobby.
Review 33:Book It - Booked the reservation on the wrong day! So even though I hada confirmation it landed in there system several months later?! This wasa weird situation, but the staff handled it perfectly and we got a roomwithout a hassel
Review 34:Location to downtown and campus
Review 35:The location of the hotel is fantastic, and the staff are very nice. Rooms are comfortable, although not spectacular. Great place to stay if you are visiting UofM because it's right on campus.
Review 36:Small room. Cold. Very cold. They have one system for all hotel and one degree for everybody! After an debate they propose blankets and a heater. For the price I really expect comfort.
Review 37:Location. Valet parking. The staff is very friendly and calm.
Review 38:Bed was not a king size, as we had thought, and mattress was terrible. We only slept an hour or two, as we kept slipping down into the sagging part in the middle. Bed needs to be totally replaced.
Review 39:It was everything we needed. (Bacon very greasy.)
Review 40:1. Traditional Keys antiquated 2. Wifi connection not great. They need an IT guy to go over that place. No printer at computer. 3. Have to carry suitcase up steps before access to elevator 4. Grout in shower needs replacing
Review 41:1. Very bad experience with wifi, even though it's free and you can connect easily, it didn't work at all. Couldn't check my email, open apps, watch netflix, had to switch off wifi. That's a major thing they need to improve on. 2. Stayed from Thu-Sat, and coming from the west coast, I needed much sleep, the garbage truck woke me up on Friday at 6am, and the noise went for at least 10-12 minutes. So be ready for it if you're staying Thursday night. 3. Breakfast is ok, not much to write home about, very little variety, had instant oatmeal in a bag you can buy at every grocery store, very disappointing. Had much better breakfasts at even cheaper hotels. For the price I paid, I would expect more.
Review 42:1. Great proximity to restaurants, shops, central bus station. 2. Comfortable, clean rooms, comfortable beds, friendly and helpful staff. Room size best for only 1-2 people.
Review 43:Shower power was WAY suboptimal. Didn't wash my hair during my stay as I wasn't sure the soap would wash out!
Review 44:Love the valet parking and no charge for in and outs.
Review 45:Everything was fantastic. The staff was extremely helpful, the free breakfast buffet - outstanding. And the room cost was incredible for the easy proximity to our events, restaurants and shopping.
Review 46:Dried fecal matter was on the underside of the toilet seat. My Sunday paper was tossed by the maid on Sunday afternoon. Sound travels well from one room to the next.
Review 47:Breakfast and eager staff. Good location
Review 48:Our room backed up to the elevator shaft which was quite noisy for most of the day and evening. Too bad that the connecting cafe/bar is no longer operational during the afternoon and evening hours. I would have bought a nice glass of wine.
Review 49:The location was perfect. We were close to campus and many restaurants. The breakfast buffet was very nice.
Review 50:Loved being able to select our own check-in time and not having to wait till 4p to check-in like most chain hotels! Location was perfect. On the coldest day in 100 years we still walked to all the downtown attractions. Free valet parking is a huge bonus! Breakfast was delish!
Review 51:Dark Lobby problem with climate control
Review 52:Perfect downtown location Intimate small hotel with charm Wonderful, renovated bathrooms Excellent customer service Very friendly, allowed us to have a late check out Nice breakfast
Review 53:We went to the ann arborfolk festival it was great we just walked out the front door and we were there. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean.
Review 54:Facilities are getting very old, elevator I very slow, Need to wait several minutes too get hilt water in the shower, room key very heavy, Eric.
Review 55:Breakfast was very good Nice staff
Review 56:Required valet parking, sloppy housekeeping, expensive, thin walls
Review 57:free wifi, turndown service, charm, candy in room, bar in room, above and beyond nice staff
Review 58:Valet only parking. Takes ten minutes for water to get hot, but mainly I give a low rating because we were in a room next to the incredibly noisy elevator. The entire room nearly vibrated every time it came up or down, I am shocked that they would put anyone in a room like that and still feel comfortable charging $200+. Put in some soundproofing or do not rent this room.
Review 59:Friendly Staff, Free Wifi, Included breakfast were all nice
Review 60:I liked the individuality of the hotel, and that it was not a 'franchise'. The bathroom was updated, with a lovely shower enclosure with tiled bench - safe and comfortable. Included breakfast was substantial and delicious in a welcoming dining area.
Review 61:We had a lot of trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi.
Review 62:We loved the central location as it gave us a chance to explore on foot in all directions. The suite worked so well since several of our group ended up gathering there for a glass of wine int he evening. Clean, comfortable and incredibly courteous staff!!!
Review 63:Small room with a view of a brick wall. I expect more space for the price. Really just paying for the location.
Review 64:Location and comfortable bed. Staff was pleasant, professional, and attentive.
Review 65:My 16 year old son and I drove down from northern MI to see a concert that started at 9pm. After a long drive it would have been nice to have a drink after a shower and not have to go out in the cold to find a place to get a drink and a snack. I expected for the cost of the room there would be a lounge?! Good continental breakfast included was very good.
Review 66:the location!! doorman and valet parking! close to plenty of great resturants. We were welcomed by a very nice, professional doorman who valet parked the car and was very accomadating.
Review 67:No longer a restaurant in the hotel (except for breakfast), but there are good restaurants nearby
Review 68:Quiet, in spite of being on the university campus. Comfortable beds and pillows.
Review 69:It would be nice to have some type of happy hour or mixer in the evenings, like other boutique hotels offer in Chicago.
Review 70:Very quiet and I was able to rest between classes. Breakfast was great and I really appreciated the complimentary wifi and valet parking. Very close to great shopping and restaurants.
Review 71:We arrived on the first chilly days of fall and the heat in the hotel was not turned on. We were told that only AC or heat could be on and the preceding days had been very warm. This persisted for three days. Extra blankets and a space heater were provided but the problem should never have persisted!! Internet connection was extremely erratic, being unavailable more often than it was functional.
Review 72:We love the location, the decor, the ambience and the comfort of all furnishings. It is wonderful to step out the door and be ON the campus of the University. The decor of all areas is elegant and calm and the staff is helpful in every way.
Review 73:reservation wrong. one room totally inadequate tho changed next day.Expensive for small rooms except for the King deluxe. Heat not on tho heater was OK. Not up to expense plus no excuse for error on reservation. or wrong reservation. I was called 3 times to confirm correct reservation.
Review 74:room bath very nice as was continental breakfast. Location great
Review 75:That we had to leave
Review 76:Room bath shower tv chocolate bell boy ( wonderful polite professional, actually RAN to get our vehicle. Thankyou for the lovely anniversary visit!!
Review 77:The front desk staff wasn't sure how to answer when I asked for a recommendation for a hair salon or directions to the airport. I used the free wi-fi though, so all good.
Review 78:I loved the location, the room size was not big, but perfectly appointed, clean and cozy. Breakfast was awesome, the in room coffee and water were just what I needed.
Review 79:Super location, within walking distance of many restaurants and central campus. Comfortable beds & linens, wi-fi free and worked well. Free valet parking! Free breakfast buffet was acceptable. Would stay here again!
Review 80:Watch out for the step-up in to the very compact bathroom.
Review 81:For events on/near U-M campus, it's the perfect location. Despite the campus goings-on, the hotel is quiet, peaceful, and comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Valet parking complimentary, and efficient. This is not a sprawling convention hotel. It is tucked in amid campus buildings. It is small but excellent.
Review 82:All rooms look out onto walls of adjacent blocks. Did not impact our stay at all but don't stay here if you want expansive views.
Review 83:Central Uni Location Beautiful (if small) bathrooms Lovely rooms Very comfortable beds Very friendly and professional staff Free valet parking Free wifi Free breakfast Free NYT
Review 84:I felt it was a bit pricey for what you got. We were visiting Ann Arbour & decided to stay at very short notice, this was the only Hotel available, usually would not have paid as much.
Review 85:Center of Ann Arbour
Review 86:I was in rm 101 and the whine of the elevator was pretty obvious and, sometimes, obtrusive.
Review 87:The service is always very good and the staff are very attentive and helpful. Love the remodeled bathrooms. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Love being right on campus and close to downtown and Kerrytown.
Review 88:Bathroom was quite small with very limited space for "stuff" (shaving gear, makeup materials, etc.). Was also disappointed that parking was "valet-only"...although that service was good, we are always less comfortable than with self-park.
Review 89:All staff contacts were outstanding, from check-in (Matti), through breakfast and valet (Ian?) car retieval on check out. Room was adequate, clean and comfortable although a bit small for the price.
Review 90:Restaurant was closed (except breakfast) as it was summer time, but plenty of close by options. It would have been nice to have been able to have a glass of wine at the hotel after our concert, but without the restaurant, not possible.
Review 91:We were a couple traveling with our teen son for a concert at Hall Auditorium and a visit to UM Campus. A suite at the Bell Tower gave us the room we needed, private sleeping room for parents and comfy-enough fold-out couch for our son. All amenities were fine. Liked the small bar area with sink/minifrig and stools. Comfy mattress, good linens, good bathroom, WiFi worked fine. Liked the valet parking. Good Continental Breakfast (included).
Review 92:Room was pretty tight - bathroom especially. Heat didn't work, but staff quickly brought a radiant heater for our use. Outside noise was noticeable.
Review 93:The location was great for our purposes - to attend the annual Ann Arbor Arts Festival. Staff was super accommodating. Breakfast area was nice
Review 94:Hotel appeared not to be nearly full, yet we were given a room that looked out over a parking area next to a small restaurant, and we were awakened both mornings, very early, by loud trucks, people shouting, etc. Seems like we could have been put somewhere else. Also would have preferred being able to park our own car, rather than have to use valet parking.
Review 95:Very convenient to the venue we were going to (Michigan Theater).
Review 96:I was hoping for a full tub, not just a stall. not a big deal
Review 97:I liked the valet, it took a load off my mind for finding parking. The breakfast was excellent. The staff was courteous. Couldn't beat the location.
Review 98:Noise of the air conditioner in our room. The breakfast facilities were poor, on the Sunday the one member of staff was very friendly, but was very busy and we had to ask for food to be replenished. on the Monday we thought breakfast was till 11,but it wasn't and the member of staff quickly removed the food from the counter and in order to improve this facility the member of staff should be taught to smile and be a bit more helpful. he should have told us we were late and we would have understood why he looked miserable. .
Review 99:the reception staff were helpful. the location was excellent. The ambiance of the hotel was good and the hotel was clean and our bathroom was very clean and modern.
Review 100:Bathroom
Review 101:Expensive due to location
Review 102:Location and staff
Review 103:Breakfast in the basement, but that was only temporary.
Review 104:The bathroom is amazing??
Review 105:No mirror in the room, only in the bathroom
Review 106:Location, staff (especially Cody and Ricki), ambience, decor
Review 107:we had a one bedroom suite, and it was very comfortable. There was a lot to like about this Hotel...............
Review 108:Air conditioning did not work Restaurant not open
Review 109:Location is great.
Review 110:Location excellent for campus activities. Loved the valet parking. Never once had to use the car during our visit.
Review 111:Nothing

Review 113:Very professional and helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Central location.

Review 122:Room and bathroom were small for the cost.
Review 123:Excellent location.
Review 124:Location, comfort and staff were all excellent!
Review 125:The best location bar none for a Campus Visit. Showed my daughter my alma mater. Staff was wonderful.
Review 126:badly needs refurbishment, horrible breakfast and not enough seating for the guests at breakfast
Review 127:location
