Reviews for Alpen Acres Motel - Blowing Rock

Review 1:I wanted the office staff to be more available. I needed an iron and board.

Review 2:I liked the location. I liked the way the room was set up. I liked that the housekeeping staff kept my room clean.

Review 3:The steam heat was a bit difficult to figure out, but once we determined the source of heat, we understood, and used the A/C when necessary. Also, it was the time of year when the nights were in the 40s, and daytime highs around 70. Perhaps an explanation of the unit would help those who don't understand. The remote for the A/C worked great.

Review 4:Pat is especially nice, professional, but warm, and runs a good business. I liked that our room was homey, and felt like home upon returning each time we left. It appears to be an older, 50s type facility, but if that's the case, it's well maintained, and very clean. It was nice in the evening upon our return, to see the place lighted up so beautifully, and was a welcoming sight that we could easily see as we came around the curves in either direction. I would stay in this facility again, should we find ourselves in the Blowing Rock area.

Review 5:Beds were lumpy. Bathroom tile old, but clean. Good toiletries. Plenty nice new towels. Std coffee pods like other hotels.

Review 6:Easy to find. Old timey motel style place. Friendly desk staff. Good retaurant recommendations. Very quiet. Table and chairs in room.

Review 7:Mattress was so bad we could hardly get out of it (sunken) so we turned it around and that made it better. Bad parking, most expensive place on our complete trip.

Review 8:The people were friendly and the room was clean.

Review 9:The rooms were a bit small but still very comfortable

Review 10:It was very cute and comfortable. The staff was wonderful and the pool was a good size and spotless . I would stay there again.

Review 11:Only minus was the bathroom was a bit small.

Review 12:Bed was very comfortable. Location was 2 miles from Blowing rock and 6 miles from Boone. Located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Review 13:rooms are small. a bit cramped for 2 adults. website says they have smoking rooms. I requested a smoking room but was to0ld at check-in there were none. I would have changed to a different motel had I known this in advance.

Review 14:quiet, no road noise. pool area is nice. very clean

Review 15:Room required dehumidifier due to wet location. Room was very small and had no phone, shower no tub and very poor water pressure and temp fluctuation. This was tuff with small children.

Review 16:Very friendly and motel is close to down town blowing rock

Review 17:We loved the feel of the place. Like the old motels from our youth. Very homey and we opened the windows...no air conditioning needed. We live at the beach, so just a nice change.

Review 18:-the breakfast snacks are only available from 8.30, which was way too late for us -outside of blowing rock and tricky to get to from the highway -you hear the noise from the highway

Review 19:-the pool is great!! -super comfortable memory foam beds -we stayed there two nights and enjoyed it

Review 20:No ice machine, no small refrigerator Nobody in office till 0830 to check out, no secure locks on entrance door to room still use old fasion key.

Review 21:Bed was comfortable

Review 22:The room is a bit old and the food offerings are not that great for the price of the room. The price of the room was too high for what is offered.

Review 23:I really like the owner/manager. She was very responsive and pleasant, remembering me from a visit 6 months earlier. The room is small and old but very clean and comfortable. The location is also perfect for what I needed.

Review 24:No bad experience. Would like excess to ice machine when office is closed.

Review 25:We loved the location and the room that we stayed in.The room was very clean. We will definitely stay there again.

Review 26:Place was nice. Quite. Located on the mountain about 30 min. from sugar and beech mountain. And about 10 min. from all the restaurants and stores. Would stay again

Review 27:It is an old school motor court so I expected it to be a little run down, but it is very clean. So for a great price we got a clean place to sleep near the ski area and restaurants.

Review 28:I have not stayed in an older place for a while and I could not find how to adjust the temperature and there was not a phone in the room so I could not call. The temp was 11 so I did not venture over to the office to find an after hours number.

Review 29:I liked the location and the way I was greeted by the owner. She was very kind in helping me before, during and after my stay. The rooms are on the side of a hill and the lights along the fence were so pretty as I came back in the evening. Lovely!

Review 30:The beds are in bad need of an upgrade.

Review 31:Alpen Acres, located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, was in just the perfect spot for us. There were many opportunities for shopping and restaurants.

Review 32:Although room was not very large, it was comfortable, clean and tidy. Furniture was of good quality and we had a good sleep in bed. When we arrived we were met with a smile and made to feel welcome. In the evening we had a very good meal in the Six Pence Pub, 1121 Main Street, Blowing Rock. As we needed to make a very early start in the morning before breakfast was available at the Motel, we went to Kojay's Eatery, 1132 Main Street, Blowing Rock and had a very good breakfast provided by a very pleasant pair of ladies.

Review 33:The porch lights were not on and we came in late from the Bristol race and it was very dark .I hit my knee on one of the benches outside the room. I did not find the switch to turn this outside light on.

Review 34:We loved the quaintness of the motel. The fact that you could sleep with the windows open was a great feeling.

Review 35:The bed was like a rock, could not get any sleep on it. Mentioned this to the manager on check out, she said I wish you would have said something earlier, we have egg crates that we could have provided. If they know there is an issue with the beds why don't they do something about it. Also upon check in, the manager repeated twice that they don't allow smoking or pets in the room, this was in a matter of 5 minutes. Did not appreciate it

Review 36:the room smelled a little musty

Review 37:heated swimming pool outdoor play area complimentary water bottle in room complimentary breakfast SNACKS size of the room parking right out front cost early check in honored kind office staff

Review 38:Shower at 9am on a Sunday morning was luke warm at best. Not sure if we all tried to shower at the same time. King bed was o.k., had a pretty good dip in the middle.

Review 39:Space was very clean. Loved the heated pool.

Review 40:No ice machine outside, once staff us gone you do not have access to ice. So buy a 3.00 bag and you will be good.

Review 41:Can not beat it for the money, nice for a roadside motel. Staff and cleaning staff, were very nice.

Review 42:The people up stairs acted like children ,stomping on the floor and constantly opening and closing the slidind door.Come to find out it was just a older man with youger girl and she was worse than a child?????

Review 43:The room was on the side of the Mtn. and had a little back yard to it . It was a pleasant surprise for our 40th annv.

Review 44:Went to check in and the clerk wasn't around--no sign out saying be back either. After 15 minutes, she came in. When we went to check out the next morning (mid-morning, not super early), no clerk, no sign. We finally just left the key after 15 or 20 mins. Bed rock hard.

Review 45:location, good, clean room at good price, pool

Review 46:My wife and I had a great experience. We loved the cozy feeling of an older style mountain motel but with upgraded features that gave it a modern feel. We will definitely be staying here again!

Review 47:Breakfast was ok - there weren't many choices. The air conditioner in the room was loud but it wasn't a big deal because we switched it off.

Review 48:Lovely motel. The owner was very nice, accommodated us in a lovely room that was quiet and had a very nice view. The motel is very close the highway which is convenient but it isn't noisy inside. There was a nice pool. We would stay here again.

Review 49:Sometimes the parking is a little tight. The place is old and sometimes the pipes can make noise.

Review 50:Simple and clean. Quite and peaceful. Pool was really heated and good steps to get into pool. You can have a cook out if you like and places for young children to play.

Review 51:Although the bed was apparently new and a tempurpedic it was not as comfortable as hoped.

Review 52:The cleanliness of the room, the location and staff were all excellent. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 53:Some road construction noise.

Review 54:Beautiful view of the mountains.

Review 55:My cousin (83 years old) next door had no heat and had to have electric heater brought in.

Review 56:Nothing

Review 57:It was small and family owned. Clean and very comfortable beds. Good location.

Review 58:Heat did not work. Bed was very uncomfortable and water pressure not good. Not worth the money!

Review 59:Location. Close to outlet stores and Parkway

Review 60:The shower had mold inside, and around it.

Review 61:It was small and quaint.

Review 62:Much more than we expected for a roadside motel. We will be back! Clean, comfortable beds, close too Boone.

Review 63:The cleanliness and the location.

Review 64:The beds are quite comfortable.

Review 65:Wonderful stay Beautiful views Clean Comfortable bed Very friendly Heated pool

Review 66:WiFi is not secure and was spotty!

Review 67:Location to destination exhibits etc...

Review 68:Tooo much traffic road noise!

Review 71:Location between Boone and Bowing Rock was ideal

Review 72:need better AC and mattresses.

Review 73:Nice little place for the money

Review 74:Parking area is a little tight.

Review 75:Pool, playground, horseshoe pit, grill area very clean. Welcoming, serene setting.

Review 76:No AC

Review 78:Everything wax very nice.

Review 79:Extremely helpful regarding venues to help support local economy, and "just plain friendly"

Review 80:Wish it had a mountain view.

Review 81:Great location as far as accessibility to Boone and blowing rock .

Review 82:Could stand to have better mattresses. Lumpy and hard in room 10.

Review 83:Friendly staff

Review 84:Office closed and opened. Opened late and closed early.

Review 85:Location

Review 86:Bed sagging in middle. Very uncomfortable. It is being replaced.

Review 88:Bed a little lumpy and sagging in middle.

Review 89:Good price

Review 90:simplicity of the place.

Review 91:I liked absolutely eveything. Pam is awesome and super kind. Very great experience.

Review 92:bottled water, great beds.very clean rooms, right outside Boone near Blowing Rock

Review 93:Bed was uncomfortable Sewer smell coming from bathroom

Review 94:clean Good pressure and hot water for shower

Review 95:Less than 2 miles from app ski mountain

Review 96:I liked the cleanliness of the room and the comfort of the bed. It is an older place but well maintained.

Review 97:no ice machine, beds.....seen a few bugs in bathroom...no amenities

Review 98:location, atop a hill with pretty scenery

Review 99:Bed was hard, no fridge or microwave

Review 100:Quiet, nice views

Review 101:location, clean, great for quiet getaway. very friendly staff.........

Review 102:Bathroom was too small and cramped. room was small too. Getting to the motel on the curvy road was not great either.

Review 103:Pool TV Bed

Review 104:The Alpen Acres is a lovely motel. Very friendly owner. Great (heated!) pool!

Review 105:The room we had was very quite and clean.

Review 106:Location was great for "exploring" surrounding areas and the staff was very nice. Selections from breakfast "goodies" was more than sufficient.

Review 107:The evening we were there wasn't typically cool and the AC was in need of some coolant, I think. This will not keep us from staying there again, though.

Review 108:Obvious that rooms have recently been updated and tastefully decorated, and everything was immaculate. The room had a window in the bathroom and one in the bedroom so the guests are able to get a good cross breeze when the mountain evenings are cool.

Review 109:Bad water pressure in the shower.

Review 110:The room was clean and pleasant smelling. Very fair priced room when all other hotels in the area with good ratings were almost twice as much.

Review 111:Not walking distance to Blowing Rock, but a short drive.

Review 112:This is an old fashioned road side motel, located within 1/2 mile of the Blue Ridge Parkway's entrance. Parking is directly outside the door to each room. My room was clean, and it had a flat panel TV with a better then average cable channel selection. Great fine dining restaurants in Blowing Rock are within 2-3 miles.

Review 113:Coffee pot did not work, water in tub while showering would not drain, needed new seals around door. Strange, but art work did not match room. It was beautiful original work but to modern for room.

Review 114:Color of room

Review 115:Bed-mattress was very hard, did not sleep well at all, thank goodness we were only there 1 Night!!

Review 116:Blowing Rock was great, we had a nice time, motel is in a convenient location to Boone also.

Review 117:The owners were super nice, the location was close to everything and our stay for our honeymoon couldn't have been better, I plan to stay here again when we come back this way!

Review 118:The Wi-Fi was terrible - not a big deal but we have come to rely on the ability to use computers on the go. It would have been nice to have reliable Wi-Fi service.

Review 119:I loved the quiet country setting but being only a few minutes away from Boone/ASU. The staff was very pleasant and our room was comfortable. We will definitely consider staying here again if the occasion arises.

Review 120:Alpen Acres is the motel you went to in the 1970's on a road trip. The family piled out of the station wagon and went into a large, clean room. Large enough for sleeping bags or roll away beds if you needed them. The motel is old, but very clean. The sheets had that rustle as if they had been dried on the clothes line. When was the last time you actually used a real key to get in your room? You have to have the right mind set; and if you do you will love this little motel.

Review 121:The wifi did not function at all. You can connect to it it just isn't good enough to even read mail. If you stay here don't count on the free wifi.

Review 122:Very pleased with this facility and would book again.

Review 123:Wifi was in and out.

Review 124:It's super cheap for the location. We were right down the hill from App Ski. The staff was awesome and introduced us to THE COME BACK SHACK which made our trip! Yes, it's not a fancy cabin but if you are looking for just comfort to stay a few nights well I loved this place! Also have tons of breakfast snacks so we didn't even need to go out for breakfast. Definitely coming back.

Review 125:The value for the price cannot be beat. This is an older motel, but the room was very clean and well equipped. The staff was very friendly and helped right away when we had a problem with noise coming from another room and solved it within less than 30 minutes.
