Reviews for Quality Inn University Center
Review 1:parking was a little tight
Review 2:free shuttle service to the bruce springsteen concert.great info on how to take the city bus back to the hotel.free paper was nice and flat screen hdtv
Review 3:rooms a little dated but clean and bed a little soft for my liking overall ok for the price
Review 4:close to where i needed to go.have stayed there before so familiar with hotel.panera bread in hotel great bonus with good food and not having to leave hotel if you didn't want to
Review 5:150 bucks to spend in a dump, tv sucked, sliding glass door was to totough to open, bed comforter was from the 70s, probably last time it waswashed, hotel smelled like a sewer, I will never stay there again, evenif it was free
Review 6:We came in for the Broncos/Steelers game and even though my wife and I were all dressed in Broncos gear, the staff treated us very kindly and were welcoming.
Review 7:Went to Pittsburgh from Phila to visit my son for a weekend. He is a student at PITT. The Hotel was located right off the highway, and was within walking distance of the campus. Staff was very friendly, and my room was clean and comfortable.
Review 8:the sliding glass doors needed to be better secured/upgraded.
Review 9:I liked that after we checked in and went to room front desk called and asked if everything was ok with our room. The shuttle service to different places. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Review 10:The Staff was very friendly. They responded to our only concern (clogged toilet) in a very timely manner. They were helpful in giving directions and the Shuttle bus was a huge savings and the driver was very pleasant. Only hotel with a balcony that i've stayed at and we really enjoyed that.
Review 11:The room was clean and comfortable. Wonderful location, and the staff was welcoming and attentive. Have stayed here before and will stay again.
Review 12:Sliding glass door frame was coming off the wall where the door lock side was, if pressure was put on door when locked. Seemed it could easily be ripped. Saw no switch for bathroom vent. Saw vent in ceiling, maybe it didnt have fan.
Review 13:The staff was very professional and helpful. Romm was clean and so was the bathroom.
Review 14:The balcony slide door needs a little updated, with there were more signs pointing towards the entrance of the hotel and not Panera bread
Review 15:Great location, clean room,
Review 16:For a non smoking hotel, it reeked of cigarette smoke. I myself am a social smoker but this was a stench! The smell was so strong! There were cigarette burns on the bathroom sink, and a note on the mirror telling you to close the door when you shower or you will set off the smoke detectors! Also, our door to get in the room didn't close well so all night long it would bounce in and out even though it was locked and latched. We put our bags against the door the second night. The "balcony" door had an after market "lock" on it and it didn't completely close, so cold and air and probably bugs can get in. (Thankfully we stayed in early October) The bed was old and sagging as well. I thought I would be getting a better quality for my money with this chain of hotel as I've stayed in them before elsewhere.
Review 17:Front desk staff was helpful with directions. Free shuttle to the subway type team they have which gets you to both sports complexes.
Review 18:Great staff. Free shuttle to and from CMU. Panera downstairs was handy. When I called at midnight to say it would be 2 am before we got there, staff said he was on the lookout for us. It felt like family and not just a hotel.
Review 19:Only a 10 minute walk to the University of Pittsburgh. Hotel was clean, quiet, and comfortable. It was very convenient to have a Panera Bread in the hotel.
Review 20:Unfriendly front-desk. When I checked in, I asked for a room opposite to the street because my mother is sensitive to noise. However, we got a room right to the street. So I asked the stuff to change a room for me. The girl whoever was there that day was acting pretty rude and angry about this. I have to say she really ruined some part of our first Pittsburgh trip.
Review 21:The location is okay, close to both Universities. The room is clean, but everything is worn out and old. They have pretty comfortable beds.
Review 22:A bit down on it's heels, clearly hasn't been renovated in 10 years or so. Though the bed was comfortable and linens were ok.
Review 23:Reasonably close to Carnegie Mellon, clean and has free parking (a major advantage in a town with no place to park!) It's in the same building as a Panera restaurant that seemed to be open all the time.
Review 24:Walls and joints between wall and frame were old.
Review 25:Staff was friendly. Room was comfortable. Parking was easy. I was close to where I needed to be. and a restaurant was on site.
Review 26:Asked for nonsmoking got very bad smoke smelling room Handle on balcony was broken I have an 8 year old so very unsafe... Bathroom wasn't clean enough ..when my daughter touched side of nightstand got all sticky residue on her..disgusting !
Review 27:Location was good near where I needed to be Panera downstairs was great Bedsheets where clean
Review 28:none
Review 29:it is really close to all attractions. i visited "duquesne inline" and "warhol museum". everything is located within 10 minutes from hotel. onemore thing, there is panera bread on first floor. that was really great, because i really love panera bread^^ haha.
Review 30:Little noisy at night.. emergency vehicles to the hospital closeby.
Review 31:location close to carnegie mellon university access to panera bread for breakfast and lunch
Review 32:The bed is too soft, not so comfortable.
Review 33:A quiet and nice location, not far from UPMC Megee-Womans Hospital, with a fabulous bakery at the ground floor.
Review 34:The facility was out of date, stains on the counter tops, built up dust and other unrecognizable particles/dirt in the air vent that gets in the room. Needs to be updated and cleaned better. Poor location. Also the price is too high per night for the quality of the hotel.
Review 35:Panera downstairs
Review 36:The stay at this hotel was what I expected. No frills but a comfortable bed and room to sleep at night and prepare for the next day of business in downtown Pittsburgh.
Review 37:Generally dirty and dysfunctional bathroom- "Dad, there's more caulk on this tub then ours at home!". Definitely time for renovations throughout!
Review 38:Easy access off Turnpike, and close to U. of Pitt- which was the purpose of our visit.
Review 39:The hotel was very poor. Not what we expected. Very disappointed for the money I spent.
Review 40:This was a convenient location to the college we were visiting.
Review 41:Rooms well worn, panera bread on 1st floor was not good for food.
Review 42:Staff was very friendly and helpful, bus to downtown was easy to take and went often. Coffee in lobby great.
Review 43:The Location was close to our planned activities. The room was clean and comfortable. The office staff was helpful - and willing to spend time explaining how to get to where we needed to go.
Review 44:Booked 2 beds when reservation made on line & they changed us to single queen. When I questioned at desk was told none were available & "you booked through a third party..." with a shrug of shoulders.
Review 45:Pittsburgh is a great city to visit...so much to do!
Review 46:The staff was great even when we were checking in late. The hotel was nearly sold out but I still got the upper floor room I requested (with a balcony!)
Review 47:Walls are VERY thin, so neighbors (with kids) were disruptive to our sleep. The property definitely shows its age with saggy ceilings and cosmetic flaws. Cable TV, but no pay-per-view options. A/C fan was noisy and waffled between very chilly when on and very warm when not. Borders a not-so-great part of town, so wouldn't be great to walk around at night.
Review 48:Free parking and easy access off of the highway. Quick drive to Pitt campus. Fridge and microwave in room. Good shower. Panera on site.
Review 49:The attention to detail of the cleanliness of the room. If it looks clean, is it clean(?) and not just a quick freshen up of the room.
Review 50:The location of the hotel was ideal for getting into the city. The staff was well trained for handling an emergency that was later identified as human error by a guest.
Review 51:Hotel upstairs looked a bit dated, could be doing with a bit of redecoration, a long walk from the city centre, and you had to walk through a run down neighbourhood to get to it.
Review 52:The hotel was quiet, apart from the couple in the room next to me (I thought the wall was going to cave in), the staff were helpful and friendly, room had all you needed.
Review 53:Nothing special happened in our room between the week and weekend to rate a price increase just for a weekend. The room was still a room with no extra perks included.
Review 54:Within walking distance of shops and museaums.
Review 55:The second sink outside the toilet area did not have an outlet, so that limited it's usefulness. The mirror in the room was hung way up high and behind the tv.....served no purpose at all. Not enough towels for the number of people.
Review 56:It was conveniently located near Pitt University. I like that they had a second sink outside of the toilet area.
Review 57:Found paper on the floor behind the curtain leading to the balcony. Noise came thru the walls and you could here every door slam.
Review 58:Location near ball park.
Review 59:There is no breakfast for free. The cleaners are perfunctory even if I left tips every day.
Review 60:This hotel is near several uiversities but a liittle far from the downtown. The sutttle driver, the nice grey-haired woman, for two times, offers me free drive to the places that their regular route does not include.I am so grateful and impressed.Thank U!
Review 61:They did not offer free breakfast.
Review 62:The staff was very friendly and helpful.Someone actually called the room to make sure I was satisfied with the accommodations, I like that they offered free shuttle service.
Review 63:Need to clean under the bed.
Review 64:Very convenient to the University of Pittsburgh. Upon arrival we e parked our car and walked the entire weekend. No need to move it even once. I recommend this hotel to all college parents.
Review 65:Apart from the sort-of dated facilities and slow Wifi, nothing to complain. The staff (incl. both reception and cleaning ladies) is really nice and helpful. The room was fairly clean. The location is perfect for business travellers who are visiting the university campuses.
Review 66:Noisy mechanicals. No real ambiance.
Review 67:The location was very convenient. Easy access to downtown and south shore, blocks away from University of Pittsburgh campus. Oakland area vibrant college town.
Review 68:The staff at the reception changes the rate of my room (20 USD more) for two nights without previous notice.
Review 69:Free shuttle to ALL UPMC hospitals. Service was flexible with schedule and staff very nice.
Review 70:There was no hot water in the first room, so we had to move to another. I didn't sleep well, but then I don't anywhere but home, so not really the hotel's problem.
Review 71:Workers were very friendly and helpful. Maintenance man came fairly quickly.
Review 72:The comfort of the place was sub-par. The bed seemed old, it made noise every time someone sat on the bed. Very uncomfortable night's sleep. The bathtub was very small. The door to the balcony was broken.
Review 73:The staff was very friendly and helped us out a lot since we weren't familiar with the area. The place was very clean and neat.
Review 74:The hotel provided a free shuttle which certainly helped its less than perfect location. The shuttle driver was very helpful. I also enjoyed having Panera Bread on the ground floor, which made for easy meals.
Review 75:cleanliness and smell was not good at all. I have been to cheaper hotels that were better kept.
Review 76:The location it was neutral and close to a lot of places in the city.
Review 77:I feel the hotel shuttle should have provided transportation back to the hotel after the concert like the other hotels did. Had to stand and wait in the rain for a taxi.
Review 78:The price and convenience.
Review 79:We were woken up about 6x in total bc of the dumpster 4 floors down and it sounded like they were in our room it was so loud. A 430 am wake up call when you have to drive over 3 hours home is not welcome or any of the subsequent "dumps" I finally called down at630 asking if it would stop any time soon and she told me she'd check on it.15 mins later right after i had fallen back asleep she called to say she had no idea what I was talking about bc its quiet now. We'll thanks for that additional call to let me know it's finally quiet and I can go back to sleep?!?!
Review 80:The location to downtown was great. We went for a pens game and it didn't take long to get from the hotel to the arena or back we were out of traffic quicker then I thought we would be.
Review 81:The first room had a heater so noisy that a person could not sleep. The paint was peeling in the bathroom, vent was terribly dirty, and the furniture was worn. Tiles missing in the hotel, etc.
Review 82:Good location. The repair man was very nice. Great to have a restaurant attached on such a cold day, but the server in the restaurant was rude.
Review 83:The walls are paper thin :(. The people in the room next to us were ridiculously loud, it sounded like they were in our room.
Review 84:Employees were very helpful and friendly.
Review 85:We had to change rooms due to noisy neighbors. The room we were moved to the toilet was broken we had it fixed then we had to ask for a plunger and take care of the problems ourself and then we didn't have hot water. We will never be back there again. All the hassle was not worth the price.
Review 86:Location
Review 87:The rooms were very dingy and dated. The walls had cracks and there was no caulk around the tub so water stains and damage were visible. There were only 2 sockets in the room for charging cell phones and neither were near the bed.
Review 88:Location was great
Review 89:Not much - the elevator floor looks dirty but that is pretty much it.
Review 90:I chose the Quality Inn University Hotel because it is one of the hotel within my budget and with good bus connections to the university and downtown. It is easy to reach with bus 28X from the airport. The hotel has basic but sufficient features. There is a small coffee machine in the room and downstairs near the lobby there is always warm tea and coffee at all times. The hotel employees are helpful. My air condition did not work properly on the first day but the hotel fixed it the day I reported it. The best thing is they have a shuttle service that can help take you nearby downtown or some designated places. This is very helpful if you do not know your way around or in the winter when the weather is unforgiving. There is a restaurant next to the hotel that can serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you are willing to walk a couple hundred meters towards the University of Pittsburgh, you will find many good restaurants with reasonable (student budget) price.
Review 91:The phone number for the actual hotel was nowhere to be found. Could not call for the shuttle. The Internet did not work.
Review 92:Nice view, had a balcony, fridge and microwave, had the heat lights in bathroom that I wish I had at home. Panera bread right in the same building. This is a good hotel at a good price.
Review 93:Very noisy. The heater was loud and it sounded like someone was bowling down the hallways.
Review 94:Cheap. A decent place to stay for a low price. Comfortable. The people at the check in counter were very helpful and amazing.
Review 95:Slightly rundown in some areas.
Review 96:The restaurant downstairs and the shuttle to universities are the best features about the place. A wee bit rundown but I had a good stay anyway.
Review 97:To say that I didn't like is a bit strong. The hotel is a bit run down, but still clean. They are visibly improving/renovating, however. I could see that they were painting my floor, but the work was not at all disruptive.
Review 98:The location and price were right. I attended a conference held in a hotel downtown. All downtown hotels were not within my budget. Bus service from/to airport and downtown quite close to the Quality Inn University Center. Eateries and shopping also close.
Review 99:Old carpet, wall coverings. Dust around the bathroom fun. Not very good everyday room cleaning
Review 100:Good location for hospitals and university. Courtesy bus. Staff try to be helpful, have to try more on their interpersonal skills. Ryan at reception has to be mentioned as he was the most helpful and polite.
Review 101:The room was sort of dingy/old looking- it looked nothing like the pictures posted on this website. Also, they had these strange tiny square pillows that were not comfortable, we had to specially request regular sized pillows and when they came, they were only slightly larger.
Review 102:It was about a 10 minute walk from campus which was great and also has a free shuttle that will take you anywhere in Oakland.
Review 103:The initial staff member we spoke to although considerate was not empathetic to our situation and stuck by the script on offering solutions which did not meet our needs
Review 104:The supervisor Amber was outstanding. We had an issue and she was able to resolve it by being extremely considerate and resourceful. She really displayed an abitlity to think on her feet.
Review 105:the air conditioning machines from the other rooms where loud, even with closed door to the balcony could you hear it in the night.
Review 106:If you´re going to the Cathedral of Learing it is really the best place to stay. Staff is very friendly, the hotel-car takes you everywhere in town, it was my best hotel experience in this trip!
Review 107:the staff and the friendliness was wonderful.. they went out of their way to answer all questions - provided one of the best shuttle services I have ever had and the rooms - while a little dated were very clean, filled with all the necessities
Review 108:Room 115: Part of the floor did not look vaccuumed. My biggest concernwas the ac unit. A piece was off the bottom and it looked blackunderneath it. I was afraid to take a closer look. Rest of the hotel androom was your typical hotel room for this price. Need to replace old, dated art prints on the wall.
Review 109:I liked the location. It is about a mile from Duquesne University wheremy son attends. Panera Bread is connected to the building. Cheaper thanstaying directly in the city.
Review 110:The hotel is old and outdated. It is definitely clean and the staff have made the best out of what they have, but it certainly needs room remodeling, new bedding and bathroom renovations. BAsically it was too expensive for what you receive.
Review 111:The hotel is in a great location as we were dropping our daughter off at University of Pittsburgh. It's convenient to have a restaurant downstairs as well.
Review 112:The sheets were not clean when I checked in; had hairs, stains and even a pin on the bed though it had a card on d bed stating dat d sheets were fresh; need someone to check dt d cleaners are doing their job well! They could spoil d good image d owners are trying to project! No free breakfast.
Review 113:The location. The free shuttle service. The niceness of the staff. Luggage hold after check out. Extended check out till 1pm.
Review 114:The location was easy to find, room was big and was easy access to downtown. We said we would stay there again. Balcony, microwave and fridge were an extra bonus.
Review 115:First, our non smoking room had an air condition malfunction, they did give us another room but it was a smoking room. Second, our next door neighbors partied until 3:00 am and kept us up all night. It was not a good experience at all.
Review 116:location is not so good. it's pretty far from the center of the city and if you want to walk there the way goes through bad neighborhood, 50-60 minutes. but if you want to go see the university, location is good and it takes 10-15 minutes on foot.
Review 117:everything inside the hotel is good, rooms are big and clean and wifi works properly. also, we got the room ready as we arrived at 8 o'clock in the morning
Review 118:There is no guest laundry inside the hotel, however there is one within 5 min walk from it.
Review 119:Slow but reliable wifi, Great beds, good location near forbes ave and south side.
Review 120:some corners in the room looked like they haven't been cleaned since the beginning of time. wifi was painfully slow. no one helped me with my luggages while checking out. had to carry 4 very heavy luggages on my own. lousy service for that money.
Review 121:wifi reception in the room was strong. bed and pillows were comfy.
Review 122:The age of the facility was evident from the excessive paint on the walls to the bathroom door that shows signs of shifting because it didn't close.
Review 123:I liked the price. Though the decor was outdated, it was clean.
Review 124:Poor signage to find hotel. If I didn't notice the Panara Bread sign (It is my favorite eatery) I would have missed the hotel. Also, the connection from the hotel to the eatery is not clear and visa a versa.
Review 125:good place to lay your tired head. Good location to venture out to the city from.
Review 126:Nothing
Review 127:The hotel is very clean. They serve coffee and tea during the whole day free of charge. It is very close to city center about 10 min.'s walk. Parking facility is very good. The receptionest (I do not remember his name who is long distance runner) was very friendly and try to explain any question we asked.
Review 128:Shabby appearance of halls and rooms, badly in need of a coat of paint. Deck outside our room had access blocked and seemed to serve as the communal ashtray, perhaps for the staff or for the smoking rooms above. Ice machine on our floor was not functioning.
Review 129:Great area of Pittsburgh. Easy to find, plentiful parking.
Review 130:I didn't like the fact that the hotel did not serve breakfast
Review 131:Nice and friendly stuff. I got stuck in a location out of the hotel's shuttle area because of a rainstorm. The driver of the shuttle was so kind to come and pick me up saying: "you are my guest, I need to serve you the best way possible ..."
Review 132:Taxi service was very poor. Had to cancel because it was taking too long. Checker cab company rep was rude as well.
Review 133:It was close to the festival sight at Point Park
Review 134:It was really hard to find a ride back to the hotel from the downtown, everything closes at 10 at night, and we couldn't even call a cab ona Saturday night!
Review 135:I loved my shuttle bus driver, she worked mostly in the evenings, andshe was really wonderful and accomodating.
