Reviews for Dude Rancher Lodge

Review 1:Just needs a little maintenance work in some rooms (walls scrubbed and repainted where paint is flaking off) - bathrooms renovated out of blue tweed wall paper - just needs freshened wasn't bad over all.

Review 2:Loved the history of the motel. Loved the ranch theme, the carpet, the lobby, the huge fireplace, the fact that it was built out of reclaimed brick! Loved the jet tub too and very comfy bed (most times historic motels and lodges are NOT comfy!)! Staff was also very friendly and helpful. Be sure and ask for a room farther away from the ice machine (everyone gathers there) and with a jet tub!

Review 3:For the most part this place is pretty outdated. It was clean, the staff was great and the rooms comfortable. Will stay there again.

Review 4:Really close to several nice restaurants and upscale bars.

Review 5:Both my oldest son (who arrived earlier than the rest of the family) and I feel that the woman working in the reception nov 1st should look for a job where she has no contact with other people. No service or helpfulness whatsoever. Very bad first impression. One day (out of 5) there was no cleaning. The drains in the bathrooms smelled bad. Bad lighting in rooms.

Review 6:It's central. There is parking. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 7:This place is in need of a serious upgrade. It smells as though they haven't changed the carpet or linens since the 70s. The towels are supposed to be white, but have seen so much use they are nearly threadbare and have a yellow tinge. It's not a terrible place; however, they really need to invest in updating it.

Review 8:It was conveniently located a few minutes from the airport.

Review 9:Everything else. I had to find another place to stay. Rooms small and smelled terrible. If I didn't just finished a very long drive I would not have stayed. At all

Review 10:Location

Review 11:Excellent location in the downtown area with free off street parking. Locally owned and was a good value . Room was quaint and pleasantly decorated in a western theme.

Review 12:For the price, nothing was amiss.

Review 13:The location near the Billings Clinic was ideal for our needs and the price very reasonable. The rooms were charming and clean and looked recently updated. The location was actually very quiet.

Review 14:I found a piece of glass in the carpet & did not get my wake-up call. While front desk clerk said "oh, sorry" - she was far less concerned than she should have been given the possible ramifications of either or both of these problems.

Review 15:bed comfortable, right prices, pleasant although not overly friendly staff

Review 16:Shower heads were so-so but they had free shampoo/conditioner.

Review 17:The staff was very informative and patient. They also had an excellent breakfast that was very filling and worth the modest $5. The bed in particular was superb.

Review 18:Room was too small for the size of the beds. Had to negotiate to get around the room at times. Drapes would block airflow from AC/heater unit which hindered the cooling/heating of the room.

Review 19:The staff was great. The facilities for the most part were good.

Review 20:There was abit of a funny smell but I think it may of been a cleaning product.

Review 21:Very comfortable beds nice & clean would of liked a kettle tho & some coffee cups.

Review 22:When we arrived the girl at the front counter was not friendly at all..All I can say is this place needs a renovation, and some TLC.. Carpets in the room were dirty and stained and need a cleaning.. The rooms where dark a dingy and small.. The breakfast was tasteless and I would not have the eggs benny ever again.. Put it this way the pictures on Booking are nothing like what you get..

Review 23:It was okay.. That is it..

Review 24:Service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The Restaurant, whilst at times was busy, served a good choice of food which was tasty and plentiful.

Review 25:No elevator. No heat in the room. Bathroom fan vent fan/light did not work. Shower curtain was moldy. No extra blankets for the bed, had to use our coats. Walls are thin, heard couple next door being very friendly.

Review 26:Excellent value for money. Staff most helpful and able to answer any queries I had. I was pleased that I had booked this Hotel. Clean, comfortable and homely.

Review 27:The breakfast in the restaurant looked amazing, but unfortunately there was only one poor woman waiting tables, wjhich meant a super long wait. We couldn't stay because we had a flight to catch. Kinda bummed about that, since it looked so good!

Review 28:Super cute, kitschy place and perfectly close to the airport, which is what we needed. The front desk lady recommended a slammin' pizza place that delivered to our room. Great place to crash at the end of a week in Yellowstone before flying back to the east coast.

Review 29:Friendly, courteous staff. The western theme decor is fitting to Montana. Our family has stayed here for decades and it has been consistent in its hospitality.

Review 30:THERE WAS NO COMPLEMENTARY BREAKFAST AND THE RESTAURANT WAS CLOSED DUE TO STAFF SHORTAGE.

Review 31:THE STAFF WAS FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. THE BED WAS VERY COMFORTABLE AND THE ROOMS WERE CLEAN. LIKED THE LOCATION. WALKING DISTANCE TO DOWNTOWN.

Review 32:Nasty-dirty carpet, dirty curtains with holes in them. Holes in bedding and lumpy bed. I picked it from rating on this website-don't know why anyone would give this a positive review. Lefthe us a 1/4 roll on toilet paper-and when I asked for more information was given a stone face and then the girl dissapeared-but did get some.

Review 33:Room service was still working well into the afternoon.

Review 34:Not a cookie cutter kind of place. Interesting character for a motel and located right downtown in Billings.

Review 35:Too many buttons for the TV.

Review 36:Loved the atmosphere and the location (when I finally found downtown). Maintenance person was great and deserves "stars"

Review 37:Ran out of toilet paper, took more than 1/2 hour to find us some. Bathtub didn't drain. It was all clogged after one shower. No extra Kleenex in room either. Dirty carpet, dated, icky.

Review 38:Not much

Review 39:Friendly, helpful staff, both front desk and restaurant, which cheerfully stayed open a few minutes later to accommodate us. We got a room with a Jacuzzi; what joy after a long day of sightseeing. This unassuming hotel is in downtown Billings, so you don't need a car if you're there for only a day or two. No breakfast with the room, but the restaurant onsite is good and reasonably priced.

Review 40:Staff at the Breakfast cafe were slow and there only seemed to be one woman serving the three times we went in. The meal itself was OK but nothing special.

Review 41:The double room with two double beds by far outclassed the King room we booked during two stays. The double room seemed more recently decorated and the beds were far more comfortable.

Review 42:bath could use some up-dating, though perfectly functional. difficulty finding a restaurant on a Sunday afternoon, although staff tried very hard to assist.

Review 43:easy to locate at one AM, alert staff for check-in at that time.

Review 44:The staff did not greet us when we walked in. The entire lobby areas smelled of cigarette smoke - the front desk staff were constantly smoking in ther courtyard behind the hotel.

Review 45:The shower was nice.

Review 46:The room was huge and the king-sized bed was very comfortable. Although you had to pay $5. for the breakfast, it was excellent. The location was very convenient, close to downtown restaurants and shops.

Review 47:Wifi was a little slow, and someone forgot to give us a new bag for the ice bucket on the second day, but these are minor issues. Fan in the bathroom has never been hooked up (needs to be dealt with).

Review 48:We liked the big king bed and the location (easy walk to art museum and to the Montana Mustangs baseball game). Fridge and microwave were great to have, plenty of space for all our stuff in the drawers. Front desk staff was very helpful when it came to figuring out where to park, mail post cards, do laundry, etc.

Review 49:The food in the restaurant was really outstanding and I would have rated it higher if it weren't for our surly waitress. Granted she was the only person working the room and was understandably busy but that's no excuse for her rudeness.

Review 50:We wanted to stay in a place with atmosphere & character and hit a home run with this place!

Review 51:None

Review 52:ease of finding the motel; we really liked and were surprised with Billings - our first time there. Everything was so convenient - LOVED Pioneer Park for the 6 year old and weary parents and tag-a-long aunt; on the return to the airport we went to the park next to the Yellowstone River - another gem

Review 53:No breakfast unless you pay

Review 54:At check in, there had been a mistake in our paperwork but the clerk was very helpful! She even gave us an upgrade in bed for the inconvenience!

Review 55:Air conditioner was overwhelmed by the 90℉+ temperature.

Review 56:Maintenance responded quickly to a problem with our room. We were placed into another room as soon as it was ascertained it would not be a quick fix.

Review 57:Adjacent cafe not recommended.

Review 58:Off street parking. Staff friendly and helpful. Good location if you want to be downtown. Not convenient for the Interstate.

Review 59:It was quite dated and the manager had a sense of humor that I didn't appreciate

Review 60:The motel was within easy walking distance to nice restaurants and breweries. It was also close to the airport.

Review 61:It smells like smoke in the hallways and our non smoking room. The bathroom had mold above the shower and the floor tiles and sink were dirty. There was hair in the sink when we first walked in. Not a huge deal- but we hoping for a clean room, not fancy and new, but clean and this place wasn't. The walls are thin- being an older motel- and you hear your neighbors' conversations at night. The beds were fine- and it was a tight but usable room for one night. I would stay somewhere else next time I visit Billings.

Review 62:The western theme kept it interesting. The staff was helpful.

Review 63:Room had a weird stench to it but it wasn't horrible.. got used to it and didn't smell it after a little bit

Review 64:beds were amazing, rooms were good size!

Review 65:My wife's breakfast was not good. Burnt bacon and burnt pancake. Mine was fine. Except the poached eggs were cooked easy over

Review 66:Clean comfortable quiet room. We stay here from time to time. We will go back.

Review 67:we had planned to go to breakfast downstairs and found that the cook did not show up for work. I know that this is not the fault of the hotel; but it was a little inconvenient for us.

Review 68:I had asked for a downstairs room, I was assigned a downstairs room at the last minute. I asked for a king size bed and we got a queen. The sheets kept coming loose on the bed and we had to sleep on a lot of wrinkles. My husband was here for surgery and the stress did not leave us while trying to rest. It did not feel like a stress free environment.

Review 69:It was quiet most of the time.

Review 70:About 30 bedbug bites on both me and my husband. The room wasn't overly nice and right as we checked in someone was at reception complaining there was something dead in their room and asking to move rooms, Breakfast was scary and greasey

Review 71:The location

Review 72:The lady at the desk looked at me vary suspiciously. I'm surprised I wasn't frisked and read my rights. The room was 80 degrees and the window would not open. The air conditioning unit only blue warm air. Their was a large shining metal loop in the beam above the bed that was bent downward as if someone had hanged themselves. I think I connected with this poor departed soul while I was sleeping. I got vary little sleep that night.

Review 73:There isn't really a whe lot to like for me. I guess if you need to be downtown close to your doing business.

Review 74:Public carpets and walls need cleaning and updating. Some rooms still need remodeling; some are done nicely.

Review 75:Price and location. Free parking, free wi-fi.

Review 76:Shower curtains need to be re-thinked! It allowed a lot of water to get out all over the floor, toilet and counter. The chair in the room was uncomfortable, it was a cheap office chair and did not go with the Western Theme at all. It was also half broken and leaned to one side. The walls are brick, but you could still hear the people next door if they are louder than usual. People walking down the hall and talking could be heard as though your room door was wide open. I was in a single Queen room and the room was VERY small, but it was fine for my purposes.

Review 77:Location was great, close to downtown restaurants and bars. I didn't try the Lodge's restaurant. Western theme was nice for out of towners. This Lodge was fixed up a few years ago (on a TV show), but it is starting to show wear and tear. Staff should go over each room with a fine tooth comb. Microwave and Fridge, HD TV and Digital Cable were nice. Good Wi-Fi, I was able to stream a ball game on my laptop. Retro feel without being too cheesy or just OLD. Great water pressure! So-So shower head. Safe parking and 24-hr staff.

Review 78:If your looking for authentic western this is it, built in about late 50s or 60s clean well maintained. Small rooms quiet at least when we were there, it wasn't busy than.

Review 79:Rooms are quite small and the bright orange countertop and mustard yellow sink was a bit of a wakeup call in the morning!!

Review 80:The location was good and the staff friendly. Had a great breakfast deal for $5.00. I would stay again..

Review 81:Although the $5 breakfast coupon seems to be gone, breakfast at the restaurant, although reasonably priced, had too much food :-) and nothing personal, it was edible to me.

Review 82:Great location for a night on the town in Billings. Very comfortable bed. Park at your door for ground level rooms.

Review 83:The bedding smelt as though someone had already slept in it which wasn't in keeping with the good cleanliness of the room and the lodge in general

Review 84:Great location, staff helpful when asked, pleasant rustic interiors

Review 85:The bed was huge (king) but worn out, maybe the worst sleep I've ever had. At no fault of the hotel's, the one-ways downtown made the hotel hard to find.

Review 86:We were looking for a 'Montana Experience' and Dude Rancher produced! Great theme and decor throughout, FANTASTIC staff, clean and comfortable. Safe downtown location with off street, gated parking. Bright orange, retro bathroom was a hoot!

Review 87:The extremely helpful staff. The historical ambiance. The wifi/microwave/refrigerator in the room. The location. The great value. No hotel in Billings is a luxury hotel . . . so you might as well book into the Dude to get a "real" Montana experience. Not a chain :)

Review 88:The updated old heating/cooling system did not work at all and was full on hot with max fan and no way to adjust or turn off as thermostat did not work - although changing it did make alarming loud clicks in the old unit. Also, the old on-unit access panel was easily opened to a view of old wires - so definitely not looking safe. There was another room available. But, on the second trip to the front desk to see if we could get the unit turned down or off, front desk staff instead finally suggested I open the window. It was late, I was tired, so I opened the window. Once the window was adjusted (outside temps were at "0"), room temperature became bearable - the curtain could be adjusted to direct the heat outside. But the open window solution did not work so well for relaxation or sleep: The fan noise was too loud to be able to actually hear the TV, and an incessant and unremitting nearby car alarm (that started at 3 am and ran out the car battery) left no really good alternatives for sleep. I left a report with the facility on the form supplied and with the morning front desk clerk, and received a call a few days later. The sales rep who called took the information related above, indicated that she did not actually believe me and thanked me for the information. Have to say that during this same coast to coast trip, I stayed at much nicer facilities for the same or less cost. All of the others also included at least some breakfast - which the Dude Rancher did not.

Review 89:Décor (recent update of old facility) was cute New bed was comfy. There were actual glass and porcelain drinking cups. Lots of hot water and towels in bathroom - which was clean.

Review 90:Parking lot is a bit confusing, but I am really picking nits, here.

Review 91:Rooms were rustic but clean and quite comfortable. Breakfast was ample. Right downtown, close to the action.

Review 92:Made reservation for Friday, arrived and they had it for Saturday . So was given a small room same price .. Room wasn't very clean .. Was too hot .. Was above kitchen was noisy at 6 am .. Shower water facet was backwards and shower doors were broke .. Was a dump. Desk clerk was rude and not willing to give any compensation for their screwing up our reservation ..

Review 93:Bed and pillows were comfortable

Review 94:bathroom colors were hideous; room was dark and dingy; carpet was so blackish with dirt that it looked filthy; refrig. made loud noise so we had to unplug it in order to sleep; AC unit didn't work, etc.

Review 95:Location of the hotel

Review 96:I would have like to have had a phone book in the room or maybe a directory of some sort, but other then that not much.

Review 97:I loved the cozy western decor. We were able to park in near our room. We were with in walking distance of a great many places to eat and and places to visit including the show we were in town to see. And for the price how can you go wrong, we will be staying again.

Review 98:The room is dark, the carpet has a dirty appearance, the buttons of the heater were rack, bathroom is small, room is small, the night I was there was very noisy (I don't know if it is common). They say they will pay your taxi from the airport, but they only pay one part, you have to complete.

Review 99:The bed and pillows were good

Review 100:The office staff was a mess. The records were a scrambled mess. Theytold me I had cancelled my reservations which was so not true. Next theysaid I had already stayed there the month before. Then, they insistentlytold me it was not Sept 7 th (they claimed 8th): It was indeed9/7/14. Just awful slipshod careless management. I traveled over2,000 miles for the trip of a lifetime to be greeted by grossincompetence.

Review 101:Fairly decent $5.00 breakfast option.

Review 102:I didn't realize, when I booked, that there wasn't any trailer parking and therefore had to find space out on the street, which I didn't like.

Review 103:The room was very clean and it was in a quiet location.

Review 104:Looking out onto a massive pile of industrial concrete!

Review 105:The bed was extremely comfortable. The best I have ever slept in, evern at home! Staff were pleasant. The Lodge was clean and quiet and very convenient for the airport. The free taxi service was a great help. We stayed one night only but would stay again.

Review 106:Friendly Staff, great location, discounted breakfast at on-site restaurant, comfortable beds, sheets and pillows, nice TV. We stayed for 2 weeks in a room with a nice kitchenette and living area. Very comfortable.

Review 107:It was dark, the furnishings and carpet were old and dingy. These werenot antiques - they were junk. Overall the whole room was old and dingy.Needs renovation!

Review 108:We had a place to sleep.

Review 109:Had the worst view of any of the hotels/motels that I stayed in during my 4 week cross country drive.

Review 110:The Lodge is within easy access to many of the featured sites in Billings.

Review 111:We could not cancel our reservation, even after seeing a room with a very dirty toilet and also smelled like a smoking room turned non-smoking....YUK! Lady at front desk NEVER smiled and acted put out! Stay elsewhere!

Review 112:location

Review 113:There were two doors to the room. The one opening to the inside hall would not lock with the room key. Not really an issue. Carpet was dirty.

Review 114:We liked the arrangement of rooms around the quadrangle with parking near our room. The rustic atmosphere and decor were nice at an in town location. Breakfast (at additional $5) was a good value and very good.

Review 115:The place is so dated and cramped. There was a hole on the bathroom door and it would not lock. The mattresses are very hard on one side and soft on the other. No elevator. This is as good as a flophouse only a little bit cleaner

Review 116:Only thing wrong with this place is it could use some updating. For the money they charge for the rooms, it should be done.

Review 117:It was adorable with the rustic/western look. It was comfortable and clean.

Review 118:Bathroom counters were a bit old and all covered with flooring vinyl.

Review 119:Beds were good and for a basic motel the facilities were good. Nice to have parking in the central courtyard, but can be noisy if people leave very early. Nice to have fridge and coffee maker.

Review 120:we had a free breakfast. We each had the eggs benedict. they really need to get a new recipe for eggs benedict the sauce was terrible. then I found out I paid $5 for a lousy Eggs Benedict. I will be happy to share my recipe for eggs benedict with them. it tasted like a pre made sauce and was definately not good.

Review 121:Room was smaller than normal hotel rooms and need some updating. They seem run down. As for the bed, it had a mattress topper on it and the blanket was noisy - sounded like a plastic bag every time you moved.

Review 122:Cute hotel with unique rooms and atmosphere. The cafe was very nice. The food was good and very good pricing.

Review 123:There was nothing I didn't like.

Review 124:The location was great, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. It felt more homey than staying in a big commercial hotel. Staff was wonderful and very helpful when asked questions. It is within walking distance of downtown, which made it perfect for my solo vacation.

Review 125:Not having a clock radio in my room for knowing the time.

Review 126:I came in late but check in was simple. My room was clean and the air conditioning was already running so it was nice and cool for a very hot day. The mattress was a dream and provided me with a great nights sleep. Internet hookup was quick and without the hassle I have experienced at other Billings hotels. The restaurant provided quick and friendly service in the morning and the best was I could leave my vehicle in their parking lot all day while I conducted my business.

Review 127:awesome room, quiet, cool and comfortable bed. Clean bathroom. Great location, free parking. Nice little restaurant joined to the hotel but if you didn't like it there is a Denny's a block away. I'd stay again!

Review 128:My first room had a little musty smell. But I came back two days later to different room and was real impressed clean smelling this room had a fridge. Was a little tough as a woman to climb stairs with my suitcase. No elevator.

Review 129:Pleasant staff, great wifi connection. Was served a great breakfast and super coffee in the morning. Time was short but would return her in the future.

Review 130:The location was not what we were expecting. In the middle of a built area. Clearly the hotel (ranch) was there first but nevertheless the pictures were deceptive

Review 131:The hotel is nice & the staff friendly. The restaurant attached was handy.

Review 132:We had 2 rooms booked, You could tell that both rooms had been broken into. And easily could be done again. Leery of bed bugs. A full remodeling is needed.

Review 133:restaurant attached to Dude Ranch served a good breakfast for $5.00 each. The bathrooms looked like they had been remodeled which helped the looks of the rest of the room.

Review 134:Black out curtains would be nice. New towels are a real necessity. I have better towels for the cleaning of my house.

Review 135:Room 102 was nicely redone. It was comfortable
