Reviews for Hillwinds Inn - Blowing Rock
Review 1:No bad experience.
Review 2:I love the little cottage atmosphere of the room and the rocking chairs outside the room. Very welcome feeling. I also liked the Christmas lighting.
Review 3:Breakfast ran out of many items that were not replaced
Review 4:Staff is very friendly. There is an afternoon coffee with food for the guests, what is very nice. The location is great.
Review 5:Two day stay. For Happy hr, had to ask, the room was not set up nor did it felt welcoming for happy hour. Had one glass of wine that gave a bad headache next day. The room was not clean just picked up, there was a water bottle and sock under the bed. The carpet was not vacuum just swept, coffee maker dirty. No remote control for the TV. Called the office to get a replacement, office was closed by 7:00 pm. Someone was going to bring it by room, 2 hours later called again, no answer. Next day went by the office, it was left in office mail box. No one knock on the door. The new remote needed to be programmed would only turn on off TV. The place is being run by young people that still have not learn the meaning hospitality, and customer service. I if you looking for a bed in town then this will for you. Nothing special about this place. Not likely to come back.
Review 6:Close to town.
Review 7:Completmentary breakfast that is included is less than average. No coffee is available before 8:30 am. Coffee maker in room is not efficent. Most items available for breakfast were not fresh, several milk cartons contained sour milk. The staff is average not very personable. Available amenities are little to none I.e. No complimentary newspaper nor were there any machines to purchase a newspaper. Soda machine was not functioning.
Review 8:The location.
Review 9:Location was perfect for walking downtown area Rooms were charming Bed and pillows were like sleeping on a cloud Charming place and will always stay here
Review 10:Breakfast was muffins, fruits, juices and toaster french toast and waffles. Not a hot breakfast like at a lot of Bed and Breakfast Inns.
Review 11:Very Friendly Staff and the most comfortable bed I have ever had in a Hotel or Inn. Loved the slatted door that provided privacy but allowed cool mountain air into the room if desired. Very Conveniently located to downtown area.
Review 12:The staff was very helpful when I called because I got lost trying to find the hotel by the directions on my GPS. Everyone was very nice and helpful and really enjoyed the breakfast that was furnished each day.
Review 13:Rooms all on the ground level with window and door directly going to the parking lot, no privacy unless you totally close the curtains, then the room is dark. View of the cars and parking lot, not any lawn or anything except across the parking lot next to the office a small yard. Lots of noise in the morning from yard workers. Breakfast was skimpy.
Review 14:It was close to the Blue Ridge Parkway
Review 15:We booked a Queen Deluxe room & had confirmation for this, but we were put into a room w/2 dble beds & upon arrival staff was not friendly at all.
Review 16:Location was great. Beds were comfortable.
Review 17:we had to wait until 5pm to check in but the most annoying was that on our 2nd day our room was never "made up" even though we left the room at 9am and did not return until 5pm. There was no manager to address our issue and the female staff person at the front desk was rude and stated frustration that residents were "impatient'. She told us that her priority was taking care of the "new customers". I personally long with the other 2nd day + customers had to go locate the storage/washing room area to obtain clean towels and other supplies. Upon check out on 10/20 we again asked for management and were told he was not available so we requested a phone call leaving a cell phone #. We have not rec'd a call.
Review 18:location is great and the inn has a cozy atmosphere.
Review 19:If you are a light sleeper, avoid rooms 116 and 117 (both close to some humming plant). Also, there is a noisy vending machine in the centre of the row of rooms.
Review 20:Really nice main office and motel rooms. Very quaint and pretty furnishings. Very comfortable. Close to town centre (walking distance) Easy drive to restaurants Continental breakfast was very good.
Review 21:We were put, by Booking.com, when we do not have a pet, in a petfriendly room. There was a strong smell of deodorizer for the first houror two both days (never experienced at Hillwinds before). We were notasked if a pet friendly room was ok with us. We came in 45 min. Beforethe 3 pm check-in time and the young woman on duty was not pleasant atall; she actually told us to take a walk, instead if checking to see ifour room was ready.
Review 22:We have stayed there for years; they have a breakfast bar andmanager's afternoon reception. It is quiet. It is clean.
Review 23:I paid a base price of $195. This is more than I have paid for at least 28 other B&Bs I have stayed in. The motel website shows the brick office building but not the motel rooms. I assumed the rooms were in the office building when I made the reservation. This is a reconditioned motel.
Review 24:The Continenatal Breakfast, Room cleanliness; location
Review 25:The only negative comment would be that. I noticed a light layer of dust on the top of a cabinet.
Review 26:The location was convenient to Main St. The Inn had a very friendly and accomodating staff. Overall our stay was pleasant and I would recommend it to my friends.
Review 27:Breakfast was pretty much all high carbohydrate food so needed to go elsewhere for breakfast. A simple addition of hard boiled eggs would have made a huge difference. Yogurt was available one day only.
Review 28:Quiet. Nice rockers outside the room to sit and read.
Review 29:This called called an Inn but it is a mid 20th century motel, barely upgraded at all, plus a small building that you could call an Inn. Lots of people had dogs there. They did not bark at night but there was a yapping during the day. Poor lighting in rooms. No one on premises overnight. Breakfast low quality like a cheap chain motel. Overpriced - $144 plus tax.
Review 30:Location is great. Walking distance to many good restaurants.
Review 31:A.C. was very noisy when compressor went on. Hot water in breakfast room for use with tea was only warm both days; no microwave available.
Review 32:Breakfast was upgraded; beds comfortable. Very clean setting of Inn very pretty.
Review 33:The plumbing in our room seemed to drain slowly. Not enough for a call to complain but it was noticable.
Review 34:Very cute accommodations that were roomy enough.
Review 35:The bed was very comfortable. The continental breakfast had many choices, much better than ordinary "chain" hotels. The staff was very kind and efficient.
Review 36:The bathroom sink was dirty and had a dead spider in it. Overall the room was clean but it needs updating. Noises from outside-guests and cars-disruptive to sleep in the morning.
Review 37:The bed was very comfortable and having a refrigerator was a must. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Lots of hot water when needed.
Review 38:No wifi for my entire stay, no service of any kind after 6 because the office is completely closed, no ice from the ice machine because it was broken for the entire trip, base board heating, no complimentary shampoos, soap, lotion after the second night. Too much money for the quality you get. Don't let the pictures fool you too"
Review 39:Not much
Review 40:There was something dried on the glass on the picture between the beds, and the batteries went dead in our TV remote.
Review 41:The bed was extremely comfortable
Review 42:I was somewhat disappointed that there were no eggs & bacon/sausage at breakfast. Trying to watch what I eat - I was limited - too much bread items(muffins/bagels/French toast/waffles).
Review 43:The staff was excellent - very friendly and helpful in finding places to eat and giving their recommendations. The room was extremely clean and the beds were extremely comfortable.
Review 44:Not enough lighting in bathroom Cord wasn't long enough on hairdryer May need a chair to sit in versus just the chairs for the table?
Review 45:Location to downtown area Price Room with frig King size bed Offering afternoon snack and breakfast
Review 46:Food
Review 47:We enjoyed our stay here. The room was very comfortable and there was no nasty carpet. They breakfast and coffee was far from good but I would stay again... Just not for breakfast.
Review 48:The internet would randomly shut off, i repeatedly lost when i was working on. Very frustrating at times!!
Review 49:Really accommodating staff and manager. Wonderful breakfast
Review 50:Very clean, neat and a beatiful place in a great location. Close to the main street and all the resturants, stores and park. Every thing is with in walkable distance and quick access to highways and shopping centers. Staff members were fantastic, friendly and courteous and graceful. This is one of the best place to stay in Blowing Rock. --Kumbaiah & Ganga Murthy
Review 51:AC was a bit weak in my particular room.
Review 52:The location could not be better, within walking distance to downtown. Comfortable beds, quiet, very relaxing.
Review 53:Breakfast was so so. Little clumsy with pre-made breakfast sandwichs And one microwave.
Review 54:Did like the complimentary happy hour but thought it could have been a little classier then plastic cups and string cheese.
Review 55:evening staff not friendly wanted a queen or king bed, got double beds upon arrival, staff reported "you don't have reservations, that is not uncommon with booking.com" I showed them my print out- confirmation, still said they didn't receive it.
Review 56:location was great facility was clean and well maintained liked the evening wine, cheese and appetizers, nice touch
Review 57:There is nothing not to like!!
Review 58:My parents and our family have stayed at the HIllwinds for many, many years! It brings back such wonderful memories of the times my dad and mother brought us, then their grandchildren! The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and it is such a wonderful location !
Review 59:The bathroom tub/shower needed some maintenance attention - tile was falling apart around spout. On another note, breakfast was very lacking. A waffle maker, pancake maker, fresh sausage or bacon would go a long way in improving breakfast offerings.
Review 60:Great location within walking distance of Main Street. Staff very well versed on local restaurants, shopping, running trails, etc. Quaint, small lodging option. Very safe. Very convenient. Very welcoming and inviting. Will stay here again.
Review 61:Breakfast left much to be desired. The waffles and toast were prepared beforehand and were very dry.
Review 62:Love the location-walking distance to shops downtown. Was very nice to have happy hour when we arrive. Very clean!
Review 63:I asked for a wake-up call @ 7AM and did not receive it.
Review 64:It was a very comfortable and clean room.
Review 65:That the hotel was close to main street.
Review 66:Breakfast Response from staff when trying to confirm reservation
Review 67:Location
Review 68:Great location to downtown
Review 69:Common area closed on Thanksgiving Day and there was no cleaning service at all during my 3-day visit.

Review 77:Everything was very nice. Cute decorations. Very clean. Perfect location to walk around the town. I highly recommend the Inn.
Review 78:It is an attractive, clean and comfortable place. The staff was friendly, polite and helpful.
Review 79:Convenient, totally quiet, clean
Review 80:Coffee maker should be updated to a personal size Keurig.
Review 81:Nice rooms with updated amenities like handwood floors, king beds, and comfortable chairs.
Review 82:Lighting in bathroom was not the greatest for doing your hair and makeup.
Review 83:It was beautiful and convenient to shops and dinning.
Review 84:Friendliness of staff, clean, and an excellent room at a very reasonable rate!
Review 85:Booking through Booking.com. The hotel did not have the room we booked so we had to stay in a smaller room.
Review 86:Wi FI did not work and has not worked for some time.
Review 87:Staff were very accommodating to requests
Review 88:Breakfast was extremely disappointing!!!
Review 89:Proximity to activities
Review 90:Charming and delightful place to stay. Best buy for the money.
Review 91:Wi-Fi was terrible
Review 92:Very comfortable bed Very comfortable linen Nice looking breakfast area Afternoon wine and snacks Close to main shopping area
Review 93:Wifi service was hard to enable in the room.
Review 94:The staff was friendly and proactive, the location was perfect for walking to the shops and restaurants.
Review 95:I was surprised at breakfast, I was expecting "breakfast", totally my fault for not reading deeper, I'm sure it was stated.
Review 96:The public-use computer in the lobby broke down and was never replaced.
Review 97:I have stayed here many times so cozy friendly close to town. Great breakfast and happy hour. I love it and will return.
Review 98:This is a very old complex, a former motel. It was clean but not updated. I expected more for the money.
Review 99:Staff acted like it was an imposition to answer questions or serve us.
Review 100:Very clean. Nice room. Fresh look to the room. In walking distance to town.
Review 101:Frig was small
Review 102:Comfort of King bed Wonderful shower with enough water output.
Review 103:Great location and friendly staff.
Review 104:Minimum cocktail hour and breakfast.
Review 105:Location. Convenient parking. nice room.
Review 106:Room as adequate, but nothing fancy. It was very clean, but lacked drawer space to unpack (had extra blankets and pillow in the drawers) and no comfortable chair for sitting/reading.
Review 107:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Other guests were also congenial and helpful. Convenient location to everything. Wine & snacks were great! Breakfast had lots of options.
Review 108:When I arrived I had a reservation for two rooms booked six weeks priorwhen we arrived at 10 oclock the day we are to check in we were told theroom's were not ready come back after 3 when we came back at 4:30 wewere told they only had one room they made a mistake and nothing no onecould do about it there were no rooms available in town this turned outto be a nightmare! The room had only one bed I think this was done onpurpose for obvious reasons. I think we deserve better than what we weretreated other than finger pointing. It was a total nightmare for me Iwas not related to the others.I Was charged $225.00 for a room that wasway over priced for what it was.and had to share with another couple ifthese people had any consideration at all it would have been totaly freeBest Regards, John F. Chaney Wilmington,NC
Review 109:There was no wi-fi signal available in our room, so we had to move toanother room for the rest of our stay. There was no easy chair in thenew room for relaxing reading. Staff was very accommodating, understanding and pleasant, however.
Review 110:Location of Hillwinds Inn--center of town within easy walking distance, even for older couples. Many shops and restaurants. Interesting andbeautiful tourist sites (Cones Mansion, Grandfather Mountain, BlowingRock, etc.) within easy driving distance. Gorgeous scenery! The dailywine & cheese reception was excellent for meeting other guests.
Review 111:Wine and cheese in the evening really was less than ordinary as was the continental b'fast. Staff didn't return phone call when I left something in the room. "That's not my area," i was told repeatedly.
Review 112:Great location. Clean room. An older remodeled motel.
Review 113:Mattresses were too soft. The breakfast was not good enough. Conisted mostly of cold items or prepackaged foods. No one seemed to be monitoring things like how much coffee was available and another guest had to go into the kitchen area and get his own coffee from the pot brewing there.
Review 114:Rooms were well appointed and plenty of space. The screen door was a nice touch. We didn't have any pets with you but it was nice to see that they were pet friendly.
Review 115:The breakfast buffet wasn't organized very well and some of the food was left in the frig and we didn't see it (boiled eggs, cinn rolls, sausage biscuits) until we had already eaten.
Review 116:We got upgraded to a suite and it was very nicely furnished with a gas stove in the living area. It was also quiet and clean and just two blocks walk to downtown.
Review 117:Breakfast was only ok, given the high standards elsewhere.
Review 118:Set in an upmarket small town just off the Main Street. Quiet, clean, friendly. Great room. Wine & cheese was a great way to meet other guests and swop stories.
Review 119:Noisy -- screen doors slammed day and night.
Review 120:Very convenient location for downtown Blowing Rock and Tanger Outlet. Lots of restaurants within walking distance.
Review 121:Breakfast area does not open until 8 am. If you are an early riser or want to get out for early hike plan to eat breakfast out. There is a coffee pot and small fridge in the room.
Review 122:Tucked right in town. Food, shopping, entertainment all within walking distance. It was quiet, beds really comfortable with firm mattresses and plenty of fluffy, not lumpy pillows. Able to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway easily. There is a covered porch area and rocking chairs. If it is warm you have to sit outside and enjoy an adult beverage and snacks in the evening. We met several really nice couples while we were visiting.
