Reviews for Shady Oaks Motel

Review 1:Second stay was awful... Hard beds, we both woke up with horrible back aches. Was not able to get a late checkout. Manager was very intrusive in private business and over charged us. Dislike the shower heads, no water pressure at all. Second room had a old outdated tv. Space heater took 1 day to warm up the room. We froze all night.

Review 2:The first stay was nice and welcoming. The 1st room had a nice comfy pillow top bed. Was running late in the morning and asked for a late checkout, was given till 11:30am. Rooms are good size and 1st room had a nice flat screen tv.

Review 3:Low rent hotel desperately needs new bedding and beds. Needs maintenance, paint, wall outlets, and security people were in the parking lot stealing from the cars

Review 4:Location, convince to highways easy entrance easy to find, close to everything

Review 5:Wow! I love older roadside motels and this one is the best ever. So clean! Comfortable bed. Way cool old style bathroom. It's rare to find an old motel that is truly clean and Even smells clean. The owners were super nice and helpful. The whole place looked well loved and exquisitely cared for.

Review 6:Dirty wall, ceiling, carpets...overall just not pleasant. Wasn't expecting the Ritz, but dirty carpet with actual globs of unidentifiable residue on the floor? They should be ashamed.

Review 7:Convenient location

Review 8:The bad thing was some of the reviews mention loud upstairs neighbors where in fact there is no second floor in this building.

Review 9:The rooms also extremely worn out or very clean. Staff was friendly location was good.

Review 10:The rural location away from Highway 5, while still convenient to it, was a welcome relief to hotels/motels in the middle of town surrounded by asphalt. It's a quiet, scenic location. Fridge and electric tea kettle were much appreciated. Cleanliness was excellent.

Review 11:A nice room with a/c, cold refrigerator, and a good bed for areasonable price. We accidentally left some clothes in the closet whenleaving, and the owner went out of his way to mail them home to us.Thank you very much for that! The bottom line is: We slept well andwould recommend this motel to our friends.

Review 12:Start with cranky desk clerk, and then very old stained bed linen. Move to dirty towel in room! Yuk! Red mold on shower curtain, musty smelling mattress, but the topper was a roach in the bathroom in the morning!! Followed by a rude call from the same clerk/owner at 11:05 saying "are you staying?"... Then she stood in her PJs watching us load the car.

Review 13:Trying to find a plus.... But it's hard. The room didn't have a bad odor. That's good.

Review 14:The bathroom, while passable, doesn't live up to the rest of the room. Spending a few hundred dollars on the bathroom would make this place a 10,

Review 15:Huge rooms, great beds, nice people. One of the best kept updated old motels I've been in.

Review 16:Only real niggle was that I couldn't connect to WiFi

Review 17:Unbelievable rate at this little motel with an effusive owner. Room was a bit dated looking and the bath a bit antiquated but it was nonetheless comfortable and spotless!

Review 18:showerhead was stuck on 'massage' giving you 3 hard beams of water.

Review 19:Staff is really friendly. WiFi was free. Refrigitator in the room. Airconditioning was working.

Review 20:The owners of the motel we're Awesome friendly! Their names are Sam and Divya and they are so enthusiastic about everything you can visit in Oregan :) If you have any questions, just ask them! Also our room was really big and had great beds, great place to spend the night if you're on your way to the redwoods or Portland/Seattle.

Review 21:The manager told me to read the policy that included that unannounced visitors would incur a fee of $20 when I checked in, but I didn't notice that part. My friend stayed the night, but she didn't charge me the extra fee, only an extra $10 for an additional person. These people are not greedy. They are friendly and want you to enjoy your stay.

Review 22:Administrator at the reception was not much polite. We live in room number 1. Parking place for my car was occupied by some building materials, wifi don't reach to our room at all, toilet was clogging and it demand for calling service stuff to clean up. Room needs a renovation, especially bathroom. This room costs for one person 50$ but for two persons it was 60$. What the difference? Second person use extra toilet paper for 10$?

Review 23:Big room. Clean enough. Two hours from Crater Lake.

Review 24:Owner wanted me to pay in cash; complained about my good internet rate. the rate was still too much for this one star motel. The bed, bedding, and pillows were below par, but the bathroom was the worst part. The rooms had carports, but mine was full of junk. South of town on busy 50 mph road and railroad.

Review 25:At least it was clean.

Review 26:TERRIBLE wifi!! Our room recieved NO wifi connection and when we questioned them they said they were "rebooting" it so it would take 15-20 mins. Yet even hours later we had no connection. My kids were sitting outside till late at night in order to get connection.

Review 27:I was charged twice: one for my room and one for a no show, which wasn't true of course, I was right in the room when I received and email from booking.com. I feel scammed as the owner told me I could pay in cash, but since I didn't I could prove that I was charged twice. I'm supposed to receive a cheque. Has not arrived yet..

Review 28:Room wasn't that bad.

Review 29:Very old tv, very small screen. Office door always locked, needed buzzer. Outside sitting area disgusting.

Review 30:Inexpensive.WiFi, refrigerator all work. Clean. Spacious.

Review 31:No easy way on to I-5 north from the motel. No breakfast and only instant coffee available. Beds were hard.

Review 32:The owners worked hard to make us happy. It looks like they are working to make the place nicer.

Review 33:The room and everything in it are very old and look like they are falling apart. Here are my overall observation: - Carpet heavily stained - Room didn't smell fresh (residual smoke odor) - Rust on and around the vents - No shampoo or conditioner - Sound of the trains passing by were very audible in the room Motel is not in town. It is in an isolated location away from everything else - I saw ant, spider, and cockroach in the room.

Review 34:- The owner and his wife are very nice and hospitable. - The bed was comfortable

Review 35:Beautiful, quiet, laid back location yet very close to interstate, best price around, felt very safe, clean, close to everything, very friendly hosts :) Small fridge and hot kettle in room were convenient! Loved the sitting space out front with the scenic view, wrapped myself up in a blanket and took my ukelele out as the sun went down, great way to end the day and a long drive :) Would go back!

Review 36:The Shady Oaks Motel is a slice of days gone by: friendly owner, large clean rooms that you park in front of, comfortable beds. The motel is set back from the highway plenty far enough so road noise is not an issue. The TV is an old CRT model, but we could care less. The internet was fast- we had three computers online in the evening with no lag. We'll definitely stay here again.

Review 37:The wifi signal kept cutting out, and was low to begin with. They charged $10 more than what the site said, but other than that, it was a pretty good stay.

Review 38:We didn't want to keep driving through the storm, so this was perfect. It was a little creepy at first, but it all worked out and we would stay there again.

Review 39:The person next door kept calling office saying my dogs were barking when they were not. The manager came and asked me to move room's twice. I refused. He tried to get an extra 40.00 out of me for my service dog. He said to my face the room stunk of perfume. The room was dirty, it was disgusting!!

Review 40:nothing

Review 41:There could be an improvement on the amenities. There was only two small packages of instant coffee, two cups, two very small plastic cups. The towels were very small and thin.

Review 42:It was a good location. Not far from our family reunion. The beds were very comfortable with plenty of pillows. We used the fridge and microwave. They both worked great. The room was warm and comfortable and very clean even though it is an old facility. The staff was very accommodating. The language barrier was a little difficult but they made us feel very welcome. We will be staying there again.

Review 43:Hotel workers were conversing outside my rear window in the morning, woke me up and felt intrusive.

Review 44:This motel is great value for money. Clean well facilitated, spacious rooms. A great place to stop over on road trip. The decor is original 60s/70s, I like this.

Review 45:My door wasn't locked when I arrived- just pushed it open. Interior light and refer were off- had to use a flashlight to turn light on. Not big deals.

Review 46:The exterior was clean, fresh, and appealing! Having a carport to park under felt secure. My room was top notch, clean, and comfortable. My stay was everything I could have hoped for. I complemented the owner in the morning for having a wonderful facility. Will definitely stay again!!

Review 47:The owners were very nice and the location is great. It is situated close to the highway exit, but not too close to be noisy. It is also in some beautiful hills.

Review 48:the room smelled like smoke but staff said they will fix the problem. Be sure how long you plan on staying because they have a 48 hr cancelation rule. Never had to let a hotel know 48 hrs before leaving before.

Review 49:the beds were comfy, the room was big, carport area so our car didn't sit in the sun.

Review 50:Is on a main road so there was traffic noise but for the price, hey!

Review 51:For the low price this was a comfortable, spacious old style room with clean and essential ammeneties.

Review 52:We stopped by Shady Oaks motel after an 8 hr drive. The owner greeted us warmly. He was very patient and replied every question we had. The room was huge for a motel. Shower and beds are clean. The next morning when we were ready to check out and hit the road again. The owner provided us several scenic spots along our way north which were all well worth the detour.

Review 53:Staff was very friendly and helpful

Review 54:Water pressure (shower) was very low.

Review 55:The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 71:I couldn't get the wifi password to work

Review 72:This property seems to be getting a facelift and that will be good.

Review 73:A carport was great for keeping the car shaded from the heat! Comfortable bed. Quiet.

Review 74:The place is nothing like represented on Booking.com.

Review 75:That we only stayed there one night.

Review 76:Exterior messy....needs work

Review 77:Staff helpful

Review 78:good price, clean, free WIFI

Review 79:They charge 10 per person even kids.. So the lady saw I had a extra kid and charged me 10 more dollars upon check out..

Review 80:Location

Review 81:Construction that was not obtrusive. But that will be done soon enough.

Review 92:Really dirty room, fridge did not work, carpet was disgusting. Won't stay here again.

Review 96:This place is terrible every thing is bad from the property to the staff never will I stay or recommend.

Review 97:WiFi signal was horrible.

Review 99:None

Review 100:Very good staff, helpful and nice rooms with all double beds.

Review 101:The location is very convenient and quite quiet. The room is large. Staff very friendly.

Review 102:Air conditioner was not big enough to cool the room

Review 103:Location, friendless of staff, covered parking to keep car cool.

Review 104:Train did not bother me.

Review 105:Great beds.

Review 106:I found the staff to be VERY helpful and accommodating.

Review 107:Actually nothing at all. Everything was perfect.

Review 108:We stayed twice within a seven day period. Both owners were interactive and friendly. Room #11 was comfy with large beds, microwave and fridge, along with operative ice machine and convenient parking were all pluses. The four deer in the adjacent foothills was a great sight to see. We will definitely return in the future. .

Review 109:Friendly staff who were interested in us as people who wanted to make our stay comfortable and without hassle. Told us how to best use the TV. Told us how to avoid delays on the highway.

Review 110:The Owners were VERY RUDE about my handicap And wanted to charge a $20 a night price Above the Stated cost of the room. I chose to stay a Full week at another hotel. It Still cost me $50.

Review 111:everything was fine - stayed there a few times over the years and know what to expect

Review 112:It is a nice old Hwy 99 motel. Well maintain and out of the way. I even liked the freight train passing nearby at 6 am as I left.

Review 113:The telephone was a bit away from the bed- I might have made it so it was in between the beds. I would have a better coffee system in the room, other than that, everything was great.

Review 114:the room was spacious and comfortable. The beds were comfortable. The wall heater worked well, we had a bit of a cold snap.

Review 115:The owner was very sweet and helpful. the room was HUGE, and very clean. beds were comfy, and the coolest shower ever, the setting was lovely. Definatly the best part of Roseburg. We will return the next time we go to the area.

Review 116:The onsite staff was very friendly. We were a very late arrival and were greeted warmly even though they were inconvenienced by our arrival time. We were given an area map, great tips on where to eat, and even got a discount card for our breakfast. We will stay there again. The service offset the aging decor and older bathroom fixtures. The room was clean and orderly.

Review 117:I made the reservation on line for two Queen beds for three adults. My confirmation email quoted $53.53 [an extra $10 added for the third guest]. The clerk did not check that on line reservation and charged me another $10 [total $64.00]. The deadbolt did not lock with the key provided. There were lightbulbs missing in two fixtures [had to request 3 more bulbs and put them in myself]. Wall repairs in the bath were left patched, not sanded or painted. The coffee pot provided didn't work. The microwave was unplugged and shared an extension cord with the TV [so couldn't heat water for coffee with the TV plugged in]. I won't be back.

Review 118:The web site was what initiated the reservation. It looked good and in a good mid state location so anticipated future stays...

Review 119:The motel was located rather close to a train track. Once or twice in the night we were awoken by freight trains, but it wasn't often and kind of added to the character.

Review 120:The location (just off the I5) was ideal for an overnight stop whilst on a long drive. Good value for money offering a cleaner and larger room when compared to most motels of the same value. The shower facilities also were pleasantly surprising.
