Reviews for Desert Palace Inn
Review 1:The room had been sprayed with a chokingly strong chemical perfume in an attempt to disguise the natural odors of years of occupancy, and the one window was inoperable (it would have posed a security risk had it been left open). The room door had been broken down at some point and repaired with a lot of putty around the lock and handle, rather than replaced. There were no bedcovers besides sheets and a light bedspread. The office is only open from 8 am to 5 pm; otherwise you must check in through a slot in a security window. WiFi exists but the code is not offered at check-in, and asking for assistance outside of office hours is explicitly discouraged by signage. The room was super cheap, but still a dollar more than the final quote with taxes on Booking.com
Review 2:The Desert Palace Inn is essentially a by-the-week or by-the-month residential motel, housing both singles and families with children. The room included a small working fridge and freezer and was clean, though the towels were well-used. As advertised, there was a swimming pool which appeared reasonably well maintained and clean, though I didn't have time to take a swim. No one broke into my car overnight.
Review 3:I don't know who's fault is it if it's booking.com or if it's the Motel. The type of room I have booked (with 2 double beds for 4 adults) wasn't available when checking in at 1am at night. What's the purpose of booking a specific room and getting the confirmation if the booked room wasn't available at checking-in?
Review 4:It was good value for money. The place looked a bit old and rundown and saw few cockroaches.
Review 5:Asked for a non smoking room and it had a.very pungent smell of cigarette. Towels were dirty. No toilet paper. Strange red spots under the toilet seat. Toilet encrusted with yellow stains. Shower full of hairs and with black spots.
Review 6:I stopped there on the way to las Vegas, and chose it because it was very cheap.
Review 7:Service only provided when I asked for it, which means the trash accumulated, etc. No fresh towels - just reuse what was given until it wasn't fun at all. Never turned on HVAC - so much dirt accumulated around it I was afraid of what I might be breathing.
Review 8:it was the closest stay over for my business
Review 9:There were a few strange characters that sorta just hung around the property.
Review 10:The hotel was clearly an older one, and the location was a bit strange/isolated, but the room was clean, and we felt safe with our small children there.
Review 11:Where to start?! Facilities are disgusting. The room was disgusting. 90% of the guests actually live here permanently. The Free Wifi is horrible, I was barely able to read my email. Everything is outdated. My TV remote didn't work so I called the front desk to have someone come fix it. No one ever showed up. There was no towel or linen service at all, I stayed here for a week. Like I said, it was very cheap and if you are low on cash, and dignity, stay here. I recommend you spend the extra 10 or twenty dollars and stay someplace fit for humans.
Review 12:It was cheap. Dirt cheap! Too cheap! They have a laundry facility that works pretty well.
Review 13:Appearance was that of a horror movie. People lived permanently here.Room looked and felt dirty. Sprayed Lysol over entire room and stillslept in sleeping bag on top of blanket. A/c froze and didn'twork. Standing shower was falling apart and shower head was chest level.Could not connect to network for Internet. Stay at your own risk!
Review 14:Nothing was pleasant accept the water pressure in the shower.
Review 15:AC unit had no labels on the knobs and levers so we had to figure it out by trial and error. Train went by every hour. Sign outside hotel said Penny Wise Inn instead of Desert Palace Inn, so we were confused if we had the correct hotel or not. Windows have no screens on them.
Review 16:Mini frig in room without asking for one. Was able to have the doggy in the room without extra charges. We were allowed to book and check in last minute, around midnight
Review 17:I booked this hotel for my co-workers who had work on the base. On line you had a good rating. When they checked in the room was dirty. There were bugs crawling on them at night. There was literally NO water for showers. It was a terrible experience! When it was time for check out, there ware no employees available to assist them. They will not be back for the rest of the time we are doing work out on the base, neither will our sister company. It was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever heard of. I am the one who books all of the travel arrangements if you have any questions or comments please let me know.
Review 18:You want to find Desert Palace Inn? You won't find it, they rename motel to Pennywise Inn. The pictures of motel on Booking.com mislead. Barstow station is far away and it has nothing with this motel. We can use Wi-Fi only if we were standing by the wall. Room was not clean. I turned on and off air-condition with a stick, because there was a lot of dust and spider nets. All night long you can listen to train horns. Pool? Small and without water. I suggest, you take other motel in Barstow.
Review 19:Location si close to HW.
Review 20:10+ flies in our room. The smell in there made me nauseas. We didn't even use the shower because we were so disgusted at how poorly kept it had been. It looked disgusting. I didn't even want to walk around the room without having my shoes on. I've been to a lot of motels, even ones that have smelled like pee, but this was by far the worst one.
Review 21:The guy at the front desk was nice.
Review 22:Very basic accommodation but reasonably priced.
Review 23:No trash can, no fire alarm, the nightstand had gunk on it, the air conditioner leaked and didn't work well.
Review 24:bad smell , dirty
Review 25:The key can't open the door Changed room, got a smoking room, The room stinks like feces. The toilet was in a bad shape
Review 26:Nothing
Review 27:Dirty
Review 28:I guess you get what you pay for...it was cheap!
Review 29:The staff did get us soap but were hard to contact.
Review 30:It was quiet and I was not afraid to be there.
Review 31:quite.
Review 32:there was nothing to like
Review 33:nothing except it was close to the interstate so that I could get away as fast as I could.
Review 34:Wifi was too weak in the room but ok in the breakfast room. ALL motels in the street are very close to the railway and a street crossing - the trains honk loudly and extensively for the crossing at least every hour all night - the motel offers ear plugs. Not the owner's fault, nothing else in Gallup.
Review 35:Very friendly owner, made us waffles for breakfast. Good beds and comfortable rooms.
Review 36:Old place in urgent need of renovation. Shower pressure bad, the shower was also very low. Door knob falling apart, beds very uncomfortable and there were flies in our room and bathroom. One of the lamps in our room was broken and didn't work. No breakfast included which for the price and condition of the place, should be a must. Also very close to the Marines base and got startled by their wakeup trumpet calls. Would only recommend it for a pass-by stay.
Review 37:Location right off the highway which is what we needed. Staff very friendly, they waited for us even if we arrived late. The place was kept clean and the room had microwave and fridge.
Review 38:POOR ROOMS, BROKEN RESTROOMS, DIRTY LINEN, POOR TV CHANNELS, OUTSIDE DIRTY, RECEPTION AREA FILTHY. POOR STAFF. ICE MACHINE DEFECTIVE
Review 39:NOTHING, EXCEPT THE POOL LOOKED OK.
Review 40:The surroundings aren't great. But it's right off of the freeway, so convenient for a travel stopping point.
Review 41:The new owner is great. He was very engaging and went out of his way to help us. He has plans to renovate the whole place and it does it need. But the room we stayed in had very nice furniture a big fridge with freezer and a microwave.
Review 42:Possible mold. No pillowcases. No doorknob on the inside. Shower didn't work. Bathroom was disgusting -- bad linoleum, bad caulking around shower, with possible mold. Bathroom doorknob loose and close to falling off. No tissues, and one half of toilet paper roll with no extra.
Review 43:Nothing!
Review 44:At first I got a room that when I opened the door I was overcome with a "what the heck is that?" odor that grew stronger and stronger minute by minute. I opened the window to let in some fresh air and that's when I noticed the window couldn't lock when closed, nor was there a screen to keep out the flies. The room smelled like somebody puked on the carpet and the cleaning lady tried using bleach to clean it up. The location is right outside of the main gate to a Marine Base way on the far eastern side of Barstow where there is nothing. I seriously mean nothing except military troops going in and out all day and night.
Review 45:The WiFi signal was nice and strong, plenty of parking, the air conditioner worked great, and the gal at the front desk was superb. When I asked for a different room she was very nice about it and felt awful about giving me a room that needs to shutdown and have some work put into it.
