Reviews for Morro Bay Sandpiper Inn
Review 1:Very clean. Comfortable chairs in small room. Close enough for easy walk to waterfront, shops & restaurants but in nice quiet neighborhood. Convenient frig, MW & coffee in room plus small continental breakfast. Nice view. Friendly host. Very low off-season rates; great value.
Review 2:Breakfast didn't have that many options, but was still okay :)
Review 3:Very friendly staff, clean, great location, had everything we needed for a 1 night stop in Morro Bay! Great value inn!
Review 4:Everything The staff is always very friendly and happy. I was so impressed when by mistake I left some items in my room and the manager called to tell me and offer to send the items and apologized that he could not get to it for 3 days because he had to work during the hours FedEx was opened. Amazing the fact that he offered that service to me just reassures that there is still great customer service to be found and I was very lucky to be able to stay at this at this Inn
Review 5:The father tried to change our room preference at check in. Why would we change our minds from what we requested?
Review 6:Location, convenience, and noise level on a Saturday night. Very quiet.
Review 7:A little expensive for an older place. Breakfast was nothing special.
Review 8:Polite friendly staff. Very helpful with directions for the area. Located on a quiet street.
Review 9:Not the motels fault but we had nightmare neighbors in the room next to us who blasted their music all hours of the night and early in the morning, so we had zero sleep. Granted it is a basic motel - updating the older analogue TV's, coffee machine & providing better breakfast would improve the customer experience (please upgrade from Styrofoam cups to paper cups as they are better for the environment please).
Review 10:Excellent location on Main Street, very welcoming, friendly staff and value for money for basic accommodation which suited our needs on our road trip. Close to great eateries, movies and only a short drive or walk to the waterfront. Great location to explore Morro Bay.
Review 11:Did not like the location of the room. Room was for handy-cap. We are able body citizen.
Review 12:Service was good, very attentive. Got a room for great price online. Probably because of off season.
Review 13:This is our second time to stay here. We find the owners to be warm and hospitable and the motel is centrally located to everything. We highly recommend staying here. We will again.
Review 14:Price could have been a little cheaper.
Review 15:Location was great you could see the bay and morro rock from our upstairs room. Your literally 2-3 blocks from the embarcadero. We would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay here while on vacation, room was clean and beds were comfortable. The staff at the front desk were very nice and friendly.
Review 16:The place is very run down. The chair cushions were worn out and they had set pillow cases on top of the cushions. The bedspread was very old which made it feel dirty. The sheets were too short for the bed and the mattress cover was exposed. The blow dryer didn't work
Review 17:Location
Review 18:Great location. 5-10 min downhill walk to embarcadero. Staff was extremely nice and welcoming. The price was reflective of the hotel itself. You get what you pay for. If your used to really nice hotels don't stay here. Was super clean but very aged. The bed was comfortable. Rooms are small. Typically we're in the room only to sleep and shower so this didn't matter but to some it may.
Review 19:The bed wasn't very comfortable Breakfast wasn't very good
Review 20:Love the location It was private and quiet You're only two blocks from the ocean & all the little shops and restaurants
Review 21:Nothing...nothing not to like!
Review 22:We stay here a lot. It's older, but very, very clean. Spacious rooms and EXCELLENT staff. Ron and his family are just wonderful people!it's not a 5 star HOTEL.BUT IT'S A STAR MOTEL
Review 23:Room is ok for the price, did not like the shower, very little hot water, and shower head was terrible..
Review 24:I like the location, close to ocean and stores.
Review 25:Very friendly and helpful staff. Extra shelves and storage in the room made it easy to stay organized even with young kids and all the gear. We used the fridge and microwave to eat several meals in the room and save money. Great view of Morro Rock.
Review 26:Carpet and bedspread. Heater was broken, but we had a space heater that worked for the night. Thin walls but no one was loud I just felt like I had to be quiet.
Review 27:Staff was nice, toiletries were good.
Review 28:walls are thin/neighbors noisy; sheets easily come off bed; power plugs have loose connections and stuff falls out - also very few plugs and hidden behind furniture
Review 29:Indian guy was extremely friendly; near the ocean
Review 30:Bed not that comfortable (but not terrible). In general, a good place for a motel standars.
Review 31:Close to the pier (7 min walking), no luxury but clean and kind staff
Review 32:The breakfast included, is far short of what I expected. I would not call the choice of Muffins cut in quarters and two types of cold cereal breakfast.
Review 33:I presume that water restrictions have something to do with the meager shower flow. Please notify guests in advance of Quiet Time, say, from 10PM til 7AM. Bath towels a little small.
Review 34:Room is clean. Grounds are nicely maintained. From this location, it is easy to get to just about anywhere along the central coast. For the most part, it is quiet at night.
Review 35:The staff was very helpful and friendly. We arrived 2hrs before check-in time, but they let us enter the room without any problem. We loved this motel, it was definitely the best and cheapest among the ones we stayed in during our trip in California.
Review 36:Continental breakfast did not get served until 8:00 am, and was very skimpy.
Review 37:Very clean facility, convenient to town and all amenities. would stay there again.
Review 38:The room (#9) smelled strongly of mold, which came back even after it was aired, and the pillows were too firm and not great quality. There wasn't a choice of pillows or much choice of bedding either. We didn't even attempt the tiny continental breakfast. It definitely was not worth the $110 a night we paid. It was more like a $50-to $70-a-night experience. Badly overpriced! We would go elsewhere next time.
Review 39:The place looks reasonably cute for a motel and is in a pretty convenient location. Also, the room was clean.
Review 40:This place isn't really a hotel, or an inn - it's a motel... that's not necessarily a bad thing; just something to consider if you want a hotel. The supplied breakfast of half a muffin and fruit juice was pretty poor - but better than nothing.
Review 41:This place is a bit threadbare, but it's not bad - if you go in with low expectations you'll probably enjoy it more.
Review 42:Pillows are flat. Bring your own pillow
Review 43:Well priced for a decent hotel. It has the basics- bed, toilet, shower, and TV. Also included was a fridge and microwave. Cleaner than most 2 and 3 star hotels
Review 44:This was the 2nd time I stayed there; the staff is so friendly & helpful. A great room on the ground floor with parking available right in front of your door.
Review 45:The bed was too short for a grown man. The room was so cold we used our own sleeping bags on top of the blankets. The washroom stank of overuse of chloridic desinfectant. The breakfast was a joke.
Review 46:Nothing, really.
Review 47:Got locked out of room. Couldnt get in. Key didnt work. Master key didnt work. Maids key didnt work. I had to remove screen and go through window.
Review 48:Value.
Review 49:Room smelled, was very small, everything was old, and it was a few blocks from the beach instead of just across the street. I will not stay there again.
Review 50:I could get a reservation here, while other, much better motels were full.
Review 51:Nice view of the rock. Walk to down town Food was great Fish was the best. Sooo fresh. The veggies were really fresh. Morro Bay is a quit friendly place. Lots of things to do.
Review 52:The staff / owner was very welcoming and hospitable. The room was comfortable and quiet. The basic breakfast included was quite nice. Would highly recommend this accommodation to others. The seaside town of Morro Bay is great place to stay while driving the Pacific Coast Highway 1.
Review 53:Breakfast was poor.Was OKW
Review 54:Gave us the disabled bathroom. Son was very helpful with solving internet problems. Helped us carry our breakfast to our rooms on each day.
Review 55:Very outdated room. Thin walls, could hear everything going on in rooms next to ours. Had to have the Windows open to keep the room from being stuffy and the neighbors were sitting out front smoking. Beds were old. Felt like I was sleeping on rocks.
Review 56:Location was good. Walking distance to shopping, food, etc.
Review 57:At first I thought it needed air conditioning but later, when the breeze came in from the ocean, all was quite comfortable.
Review 58:Easy walk to the Embarcadero.
Review 59:the t..v. didn't work (it was green), too much stuff in the room and bathroom (small tables, desks, etc.) just created clutter. No place to hang hand towels by the sink. Not worth what we paid … disappointed.
Review 60:Beds unconfortable, matras, blankets and contains far to used. We could hear the neighbors talking as if they were in our room. On top of that the price too expensive. I can't understand the 8 in booking.
Review 61:nothing
Review 62:In short: clean, spacious and convenient motel in Morro Bay. We have arrived late at night (around midnight) - the office/reception was already closed but they have left a note for us and a key to our room wishing us a good night and saying we'll take care of the paperwork and payment in the morning. The room was clean and big, and even though we have spent only one night there - it was great, and exactly what we needed. we could hear the sea lions from our room at night - it felt close to nature, in a good way. Morro Bay was a wonderful place to visit - and a room in this motel gave us a great value for money and a good starting point for our excursions around the area.
Review 63:I reserved the room through booking.com at a certain rate. Ane when I was given the bill, the amount was higher. The owner could not give me a explanation was it was approximately $1.50 more than what you quoted.
Review 64:Good value.....
Review 65:Hard to find in the dark. Needs updating. "Breakfast" skimpy and all sweets.
Review 66:The location was close to the bay. Clean, and beds were comfy. WiFi worked well.
Review 67:We only spent 1 night in Morro Bay at the Sandpiper Inn and it was perfect for accommodating our needs. The gentlemen who runs the front desk was an absolute pleasure. I highly recommend the Sandpiper Inn, not to mention the price is right!
Review 68:Forgot there wasnt a swimming pool but not a big problem
Review 69:Very friendly people who ran this hotel. Went out of their way to offer help if it was needed
Review 70:Bedding and room decoration are cheesy , breakfast is too cheap, no air condition at a hot day can be uncomfortable. Wall is thin.
Review 71:Near beach and rock, staff is nice, price is reasonable. Very clean room, with mini fridge and microwave oven.
Review 72:We were in town for a funeral during the avacado & margarita festival. A group of belligerent ladies were staying in the room directly above ours & making excessive noise until around 3am.
Review 73:The staff was most gracious and accomodating.
Review 74:The room was very dated... vintage but not in the good way. The bedspread was an abomination (and the pillows). It should be burned. Just basic clean white sheets and a nice blanket would work wonders to improve the room. The room has far too much furniture in it (and pillowcases on the chair cushions). The hotel is in a great location with good potential to be renovated into something nice but I was happy to check out.
Review 75:Finally getting there after driving down the PCH from San Fran! The staff were very nice and professional, interacting with the man at the counter was by far the most pleasant aspect of my stay.
Review 76:Couldn't open curtains as no privacy with stairs right outside our room and no net curtains. Poor breakfast.
Review 77:Morro Bay is beautiful. Reasonably priced room.
Review 78:Young man checking us in was very helpful everything was ready when we got there we also had our grandson with us enjoyed close walk to main street and food
Review 79:we had the room with the ash try container outside our window and we also had our window open so people were smoking outside our window and talking really loud, the curtain was open and they even looked inside our room, i closed the window but the smell was hard to get rid of . . . so i moved the ash container
Review 80:management were polite and caring
Review 81:Are they serious about the breakfast space? Could it be more cramped? Room, furnishings and overall accommodations are just adequate. If I had to pay the full rate, I would have been very unhappy.
Review 82:Location ... location ... location!
Review 83:The bed was a little hard for us, and the hotel itself is farther south than we are used to.....so we had to walk a lot.
Review 84:The staff was super nice...we even showed up 2 hours before check in, and they immediately cleaned the room for us, so we could check in early
Review 85:The young man at the desk was very pleasant and helpful. Made us feel right at home. We've stayed at this location at least 3 other times (when it was owned by different people and under different names) and we've always have a pleasant experience. We always stay here whenever we visit Morro Bay.
Review 86:Breakfast is a sort of take-away. You get your own breakfast in the reception (5 square feet) and then you can have in the parking lot or bring it back to your room
Review 87:Simple! Good for a 1night stand
Review 88:Staff upon check-in. I had an issue with the reservation that was my fault and the clerk took care of it for me and was very courteous. Motel is also a good value for the money. Provides a nice bed with clean accommodations at a reasonable price.
Review 89:No bad experience. You get what you pay for...
Review 90:Location good for visiting locally. Staff very nice. Room fine for price. A bit shabby and run down.
Review 91:Internal plumbing was noisy,
Review 92:Quiet location, but fairly accessible to resort facilities, breakfast was value for money, juice, coffee, cereal, hot water, muffins.
Review 93:The bed was a little softer than I like, but I still got a good night's sleep. The screen to the bathroom window had been pulled from its frame, but that is an easy fix.
Review 94:The front desk clerk (and later his assistant) - both young men - couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, especially when I couldn't get the tv to work. My room had a nice view of Morro Rock.
Review 95:overall the property was very good, however, it would benefit from upgrading the exterior and green carpeting on the stairs and walkways.
Review 96:at check in the manager was very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent, our stay was very comfortable.
Review 97:I was in the ada room. The owner had installed a motion sensor lightnext to the door, and every time I moved in bed, the light went on andwoke me! Also, I could not get on the WiFi, and breakfast didn'tbegin until 8 am, too late for me. Finally, he charged tax on the $5service fee.
Review 98:The location.
Review 99:Would like to see use of real mugs instead of small styrofoam for our morning coffee. The continental breakfast didn't appeal - there was nothing really available for someone who has to avoid sugary offerings.
Review 100:Courteous and friendly front desk staff, efficient housekeeping, location to the downtown area and the Embarcadero.
Review 101:Carpet dirty room smelled. Small window looking at a wall. No air conditioner working instead they gave u a small fan which didn't help so room was stuffy and warm at night and when u turned it on it messed with tv.
Review 102:Good location. Walking distance to downtown. Fridge good size had a microwave:). Staff friendly.
Review 103:i don't like the way a few of the customer park their cars ( double parking )
Review 104:I like the People who run the place ,they were very friendly and understanding
Review 105:We were in room 2 and the mattress seemed to slope downward on the forward facing left side. Conditioner would also be nice.
Review 106:The Mgr was super nice, very friendly! Like the location and the the view.
Review 107:They had already put the total stay on the credit card I reserved with. I wanted to split the stay on two different cards upon arriving. Breakfast was too limited, no fruit, yogurt, the usual things.
Review 108:Only con I can think of was the lack of air conditioning in the rooms
Review 109:The rooms were nice, location & breakfast good and the staff was VERY friendly.
Review 110:They charged in the credit card the same morning when we checked in. We wanted to change the payment card but was not possible. Very old TV.
Review 111:The location and the friendly staff
Review 112:Poor value for the money. Old infrastructure, old room, insulting breakfast
Review 113:Nothing, but if you must: The room was clean. It was very quiet after dark. like a graveyard...
Review 114:Breakfast was minimal, but more important, I would have liked a curtain over the small window next to the bed so I could have complete darkness when I slept and didn't necessarily have to wake up when the sun rose.
Review 115:It was convenient, great location, comfortable and the price was right.
Review 116:No A/C. Tight fit in room, but manageable.
Review 117:The owner was nice & helpful. Hotel in nice area. Old timey art-deco, but perfect for overnight stay. Very clean, no bad smells, comfy.
Review 118:Breakfast was bad coffee and pieces of Costco muffins. Room was dated and bed was old.
Review 119:The hotel was one of the lower priced options in the area. The room was clean.
Review 120:The value, the cleanliness, the staff. Every advertised amenity was there. The location was perfect. The beds were fine, the place was quiet and pretty.
Review 121:Nothing particular... nice for one night
Review 122:They were kind even if I was a little bit rude: booking didn't calculate a tax they use to have. They just have a room with a little view on the sea and they gave it to me, because I asked for it. Morro Bay is Nice area where to spend some hours and eat fresh fish
Review 123:The breakfast wasn't much and the key didn't work to get into our room. We missed dinner because we waited for the hotel staff to recalibrate the room key. We didn't realize that all restaurants closed by 9:00pm and we got to the restaurant we wanted to eat at 9:14pm after the key issue. We were also woken up at 6:20am by loud construction across the street
Review 124:The cost
Review 125:Had trouble with the TV remotes. Everything else OK. There was construction noise across the street. That is not their fault & will end when the project is completed.
Review 126:Good value for the area. Old & quaint.
Review 127:the listing was for a 2 bedroom apartment. Instead we were given 2bedrrooms with a connecting doorway and one bathroom off the second bedroom. we were very disillusioned as we were traveling as 2 couples and expected an apartment as advertised. we needed to quickly find another room in a second hotel for the second couple, the manager was not very forthcoming in allowing us to receive a refund nor was there any compensation offered for the inconvenience. He insisted that it is a suite hotel even thoughin your description you state that it is an apartment hotel. It doesnt even qualify as a suite - more like 2 hotelrooms with a connection door and only one bathroom! we were very dissappointed.
Review 128:The carpet was dirty, our feet were filthy after walking on it.
Review 129:The Motel was within walking distance to the shops and restaurants. We had a partial view of the rock and water on the ground floor in room #5.
Review 130:We stayed three nights in July. It is located in a quiet area but is well within walking distance to the water, restaurants, and tourist shopping. It is quite clean and comfortable. It is a small motel and was full but was also very quiet. We love Morro Bay and will stay here again.
