Reviews for Portland Regency Hotel & Spa

Review 1:We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We love Portland but had never stayed before. The Portland Regency was the perfect choice. The location, the staff and the facilities were all wonderful. we would definitely come back.

Review 2:The fixtures, bathrooms and robes are a bit dated. Although a lovely place a couple of minor tweaks would make it phenomenal.

Review 3:Location can't be beat for any time of year.

Review 4:Little noisy outside window and a blue light on the thermostat was very bright. The lighting in room was poor.

Review 5:Loved the location, the breakfast, and the lounge.

Review 6:Lack of communication about holiday hours of restaurant and armory put a damper on our night.

Review 7:We liked the amory a lot. Great martini menu and very friendly and knowledgable bartender.

Review 8:Ba news is you have to valet park you car; good news is you won't need it! Very convenient to great restaurants in the Old Port area. Very nice fitness center. Nice setting, very appealing entrance.

Review 9:The beds were on the smaller side due to the room sizes and aside from being very soft, each bed sagged to the side facing the middle of the room (where most people sleep.)

Review 10:Location is great and the old world charm of the hotel makes staying there very pleasant and almost homely.

Review 11:Only valet parking available & it was just a dingy lot next door. Our checkin receptionist was beyond haughty & not welcoming. Other front desk staff seemed much friendlier. Price was excessive.

Review 12:Loved the location, and the available services (breakfast, lounge on site). Loved the music throughout. Bed extremely comfortable! Beautiful bathroom. Loved that windows opened.

Review 13:I wouldn't say it's a bad experience but I often wonder why the hotels don't have two luggage holders if there are two guests. Such a simple, inexpensive, and helpful item.

Review 14:The staff was amazing. I think the rooms should have a small frige in them. We certainly wouldn't store meals in them but for insulin and small items it's a must. it could be hidden in the closet where the safe is kept.

Review 15:A special place away from hustle and bustle. We Stop here every year at the start of our getaway from cape cod. Great bar and restaurant. Very courteous staff

Review 16:Air conditioning in room sounds like a Mack truck everytime it comes on. Also, my room was looking out at pool -- the negative of this is extremely little natural light. I was asked at checking if I minded being by pool and I wanted a ground floor ... I just didn't realize it was so dark.

Review 17:Wi-if did not work at all in our room

Review 18:Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the young Englishman at reception. Location was the absolute best to explore the charming Old Port and the hotel had a special charm. 'Flatbread' by the port, was their superb restaurant recommendation for a pizza (which they call flatbread in parts of New England). Being Italian, I am very fussy about my pizza!

Review 19:This was in a great location for us, our friends were staying at Dimillo's Marina which was right down the street. There are tons of great restaurants & shops within walking distance. The staff was extremely friendly & accomodating. Our room was nicely decorated & comfortable.

Review 20:I ate lunch at the garden cafe. It took 45 minutes to get my order. I ordered an oil cured ahi tuna and lobster sandwich. Both items came out together. When the bill was ready, I asked that a manager bring it. They just had another server bring it who told me she was a "supervisor". Her excuse for the delay? Everything is made by hand and it takes time. Lame! Also, the bed was spongy. The valet/bell hops were great, friendly. The front desk staff need some friendliness training. I was in and out quite a bit, they rarely lifted their heads to great me.

Review 21:Location, rooms were nice, common areas a bit dated

Review 22:was there for 7 days...complimentary coffee/pastry was wrong every single day. every day we ordered it came to us wrong, either something missing or something we didnt ask for. at night there was a constant flow of water running through pipes as if someone was flusing toilet periodically or coming from the kitchen.

Review 23:location, cozyness, staff

Review 24:The heat made a clicking noise that seemed a touch loud at night but we got used to it. The walls are a bit thin but if you grew up in an old house, it is sounds you are used to.

Review 25:The hotel was the perfect blend of historic charm with modern updates. The rooms were recently remodeled, staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The hotel is situated close to everything downtown and in Old Port.

Review 26:Aside from it being a great price and great location , when I arrived there was nobody to take my car. 2 people walked by me workers but didn't offer me any assistance. Nobody offered to help me with my bags. Even the valet guys watched me bring my bags up the stairs. One lady who had in a regency shirt didn't even hold the door for me. The front desk was ok. but not helpful in directing me to my room or where anything was located. Hospitality was low.

Review 27:I liked the location being close to restaurants and shops. I'm a business traveler and there was a cozy little restaurant where you could go across the street at the end of the day to have dinner and a drink. I liked the rooms and it was very clean.

Review 28:Noises from chamber & maintenance staff banging carts and laughing in the spa area. Made me feel uneasy, tense while lying on massage table

Review 29:Had my first massage at spa. His n hers massage. Very nice

Review 30:Directly outside my window a pressure washer ran from midnight to 4 am, prety sure this violated local ordinances but no effort was made to curtail it.

Review 31:It was wonderful to have complimentary coffee and pastry delivered to my room in the morning. I'll be back just for that! The martini selection at the Armory Bar was also impressive.

Review 32:Restranant food was not that good I had s steak which was tender but not much flavor got the quality steak it was My friend had the squash pasta she said it was okay

Review 33:Message was very good and the staff was very friendly

Review 34:I found the Armory Lounge to be an unexpected delight. We came back to the hotel for a late bite and were pleasantly surprised at the comfort and friendliness there along with an adequate menu.

Review 35:It's nestled amongst other buildings, so no ocean view.

Review 36:upgrade to the suites, really nice. grest bar, vfm valet parking ... Great alternative to the big name hotels

Review 37:Construction in hotel was VERY Loud and Annoying sounded like they were drilling all around our room. From 8:00 am until it drove us to check out. The front desk pretty much dismissed it and us on check out. Not impressed.

Review 38:SPA and Rooms amazing. Food in Lounge was awesome because app's are half price. One major problem all else very nice

Review 39:They cut off the water between 12 and 3 p.m. Not a big deal, I just wish I had known ahead of time. It would have been really helpful to have a mini-fridge.

Review 40:The hot tub (in the spa), bed, and shower. Plus, I loved the bar downstairs. Free cheese plates!

Review 41:had to move to other room because of cold and same results, False fire alarm at 11:30 p.m. did give us credit of 50.00$ which I felt was not sufficient.

Review 42:location to all facilities clean rooms staff were efficient.

Review 43:I swear I saw on the website there was more than one hot tub, there wasonly one and it was in the spa which made it awkward. There were no cabs around and when I asked if they could call one it was a 40 min wait! VERY thin walls & squeaky loud doors that slammed so we didn't get the best nights sleep Parking expensive

Review 44:The Tavern was a fun bar located downstairs, the bartenders were awesome& good strong drinks.Bed was very comfortable Shower was AMAZING & bathroom very large and clean. Great location Nice piano player when you first walked in & staff was pleasant

Review 45:It's outstandingly clean and well appointed but there are a few things that just need to be updated (I.e fixtures, room carpet, shower curtains). The HVAC can get VERY LOUD in the middle of the night.

Review 46:Location is excellent. Staff is wonderful.

Review 47:I wanted to stay here because it was in the middle of Portland. Everything was really great with many surrounding amazing restaurants and shops. I also had a really great time at the spa they were very helpful picking out what treatment I wanted and making me very comfortable and relaxed. Already looking forward to my next trip!

Review 48:The complimentary coffee was only until 8am so we didn't get to take advantage of that... No hair dryers in the room

Review 49:We loved the Spa area & hot tub...

Review 50:-free shuttle bus to the AirPort - nice staff -big comfortable room and bathroom - charming vintage vibe -center or portland perfect to walk everywhere. -morning coffee -there's nothing not to love of this hotel.

Review 51:There were no dislikes.

Review 52:The staff provided shuttle service free of charge to and from an area restaurant at a rival hotel during a raging snow storm. That was above what I might have expected anywhere else. The staff makes you completely comfortable. Another excellent experience!

Review 53:Breakfast wasn't included in the room rate, and we had no choice about the valet parking, although we saw the car round the corner in an open parking lot, and could easily have done it ourselves and saved $12 a night.

Review 54:We stayed two nights near the end of our trip round the six New England states, and it was nice to be pampered for a change. A luxury hotel where we were made to feel special. Rooms were very big and comfortable and amenities good.

Review 55:There was nothing not to lik.

Review 56:Staff was excellent We had breakfast in the dinning room. It was excellent. Rooms were clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay at the Regency again.

Review 57:i've stayed almost 100 times...so obviously I like it . Unfortunately, the historic element, that I value, means the unusual windows in the old Armory can't be opened.

Review 58:The location, the staff! Historic ambience, the spa,the bar

Review 59:While the bed was good, the pillows were not. We asked for soft, but continued to get pretty hard pillows.

Review 60:Location, Location, Location ... Very friendly, helpful staff. Interesting architecture and good coffee in the morning.

Review 61:they park your car for you, behind the hotel, and then retrieve it for you when you need it. We like just having it where we park it and not bothering someone to get it for us but it wasn't that big a deal. Just more of a small inconvenience.

Review 62:the Regency has a warm, welcoming feeling to it. The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms were large with glass enclosed showers which was nice having plenty of room to move around. The internet hooked up quickly unlike the last hotel we stayed in and it was quiet in our room on the 3rd floor. We stayed in 4 hotels on this vacation and Regency was our favorite.

Review 63:Great location. Enjoyed being able to walk to the waterfront, shops and restaurants. Nice old hotel with charm nestled in a quiet area. Valet parking was very efficient.

Review 64:We were given a room with an adjoining door. Our sleep was very disturbed throughout the night by noise from the next room. A dreadful night's sleep. This room should not be given to guests in the future.

Review 65:The location and facilities were fine and the valet parking a great help. The Armory bar was welcoming and friendly.

Review 66:Elegant room. Very good dining experience (dinner & especially breakfast). Bed was almost too comfortable -- didn't want to get up the next morning.

Review 67:Our mattress was soft and I like them hard. Obviously the next guest may love the softness.

Review 68:Friendly and luxurious. The hotel is beautiful and has personality unlike the cookie cutter rooms in big chains motels.

Review 69:I had an emergency situation requiring toiletries beyond toothpaste or aspirin. This hotel does not have any stock of these items. It took us over 45 minutes to locate a store in the area. The staff drove us there but for the money I paid for the room I felt they should have emergency items on hand as another service to their guests.

Review 70:Wi-fi was pretty weak, though at least complimentary; couldn't get my phone to hook up so had to use data A bit pricey for what we got, to be honest. Granted, it's probably the nicest hotel in that part of town, but the rate plus price of room service and other services piled up high quickly.

Review 71:Perfect location Amazing Staff Fantastic food and service at the lounge and 'garden cafe' restaurant Very comfy beds Luxurious bathroom and decor

Review 72:It's an expensive hotel, however it's worth the "treat" once in awhile and I believe you pay for what you get.

Review 73:Staff are always consistently attentative. Fitness room is small, however it does the job! We are in fact looking to have our wedding at the hotel. The beds are amazing!

Review 74:Food in the restaurant was average. Expected more for this hotel.

Review 75:The location is great - in the heart of the Old Port and an easy walk to Waterfront. Small conveniences like two umbrellas in the room. Friendly staff.

Review 76:The coffee they serve is not great. And only 1/2 n 1/2 is available. Also hotels should check for squeaky doors. Our bathroom door was so loud it woke up my partner whenever I touched it.

Review 77:Lovely hotel in the heart of the city. Easy access to everything. Great staff. The spa was perfect as well.

Review 78:I stay here several times every year for many years. It feels friendly and comfortable to be here.

Review 79:Not bad, but, something was banging in the wind all night.

Review 80:Location and staff was great

Review 81:The only thing I didn't like was the pillow. Flat and not soft.

Review 82:Great mattress, sheets and towels.

Review 83:Hotel is a little tired, beds are too soft and too old.

Review 84:Location is amazing.

Review 85:Room next door was very loud at 1:30 am

Review 86:Very nice facility

Review 87:Great location right in the Old Port. Beautiful historic property.

Review 88:Beautiful Christmas decorations, convenient location, lovely spa.

Review 89:Each room ought to be provided shampoo AND CONDITIONER

Review 90:Price a little high

Review 91:Location

Review 92:Excellent friendly service and food in restaurant Loved the frontage with its trees and al fresco dining - a little oasis

Review 93:The included spa facilities are amazing! Makes your trip relaxing and creates more value over other hotels in Portland.

Review 94:Upgraded to an executive suite. The staff were helpful when required and the Armoury bar made excellent martinis.

Review 95:The place needs to be updated. Feel like I'm going into a mid 60's hotel.

Review 96:Location, value and friendly staff.

Review 97:Excellent location

Review 98:Staff very friendly and helpful, beautiful room , great location.

Review 99:AC unit in our room ver loud.

Review 100:clean, quiet, convenient

Review 101:The staff, the facility, the comfort, the ambience

Review 102:Pillows were not comfortable.

Review 103:Restaurant and staff. 20 Milk Street is wonderful and staff made us feel special

Review 104:The spa

Review 105:Fan in bathroom not working

Review 106:Spa and very friendly and helpful staff

Review 107:We're not used to spending that much per night.

Review 108:We love downtown Portland, and the Regency is in a great spot.

Review 109:The staff was very accomadating!

Review 110:Staff and location.

Review 111:Wi fi, noise from other rooms, decor a little dated.

Review 112:Location, staff were nice

Review 113:Nothing bad. A bit pricey but service ,attention to detail and overall friendliness made it a very nice stay

Review 114:Location and attention to guests

Review 115:The location was great for walking for shopping and restaurants. The staff who parked the cars, etc. was exceptional! :)

Review 116:Breakfast quite expensive

Review 117:Everything is in walking distance

Review 118:CONVENIENCE AND FRIENDLY SEREVICE

Review 119:Location, location, LOCATION!! A couple of blocks in any direction gives you shops, restaurants, the wharf, the theater, THE WORKS!
