Reviews for Inn at Portland

Review 1:Trash can still had previous visitors trash which actually had personal information. The section of the building we where in was under a renovation, in fact, the smell from the new carpeting and paint was suffocating, we slept with the window open after we contacted the office and made them aware of the odor. They said room was just painted. If we were one of the only visitors this facility had why were we placed in this room? How weird was it that the office was in the front parking lot and the building in the rear not even connected???

Review 2:It is very uncomfortable, pictures are misleading, there was a puke stain on the floor, bathroom light went out after being there for five minutes, the space heater also stopped working in the middle of the night... Maine can be freezing Thankyou very much!

Review 3:The price

Review 4:Guest check in outside of hotel and no one was on duty until after 2:00 p.m The facility had an unusual order in the hallways and it definitely need some upgrades

Review 5:The heat wasn't yet turned on so there was a space heater that could not be moved or would blow a fuse. The fact that there was a person who overdosed a couple doors down from us ruined the entire weekend. Although we stayed we should have left.

Review 6:The room was comfortable and was clean.

Review 7:The smell of the building and rooms was very bad, almost musty like a rotting wet smell. The building seemed very very old and the photos online did not seem accurate. Slept with window open even though it was cold to try to not breath in smell all night. Bathroom shower area also very smelly.. Hoping not mould from moisture?

Review 8:The hotel was not too far of a drive from downtown... The rooms looked nice inside.

Review 9:I missed a fridge from the room, and the corridor was a bit smelly of cigarette smoke, though they have 'smoking' rooms, so it's not suprising.

Review 10:The staff were helpful, the room was clean and comfy. The bus stop is just a few steps away (but no service on Labor Day; FYI :) Shopping area with a big supermarket is also close to the place.

Review 11:I was worried to see someone in the room right next door when the inn was not fully booked, but there was no noise from tv or anything. There were some folks hanging out behind the restaurant and that made us drive rather than walk to eat.

Review 12:The room was updated and clean. The only noise was from people running overhead, but that was short lived- maybe someone's child? The Asian Bistro was delicious. If this room were downtown it would be worth $300 easily.

Review 13:The hall ways are very stinky and smokey! The smoke from the smoking rooms and hallway seep into the "non smoking" rooms. All of our clothes ended up smelling like smoke. It is so rare to find states that still allow smoking rooms in hotels and or public places, so we didn't expect this.

Review 14:The guy at the desk was friendly. There are restaurants nearby for easy in and out stays.

Review 15:I really need the wifi connection. Not avalaible in the buildings far away from reception. At this price, it should coffee included. If yes never mentioned.

Review 16:Did not like the stay

Review 17:Thin towels. We were told there was a couch in the room. None. Coffee creamer was old. We planned to spend 5 days but the room felt like only a one night stay spot. Where would we sit if it rained? Food left from prior guest in the fridge

Review 18:1. Nobody at the lounge 2. Quite dirty 3. Smoke smell in corridors 4. Noisy 5. Far from DownTown And all this for 130 $ That's robbery!

Review 19:WIFi and bed

Review 20:no office staffing except for very limited hours rooms not colocated with the inferior small lobby and no facilities near office.

Review 21:fine clean, quiet room

Review 22:The hallway needs to be updated as it looks very shabby. The location of the hotel building behind the backdoor of the asian restaurant makes it a bit dodgy

Review 23:The room was newly renovated and had nice decor. There's cable tv as well.

Review 24:No one answered or returned my call when I attempted to phone prior to arrival. There was an odor in the building that was unpleasant, but I got used to it pretty quickly.

Review 25:A clean newly remodeled room with a decent TV, excellent wireless reception, beds were quite firm and very comfortable.

Review 26:The bed was uncomfortable you'll need to bring your own pillows. No overnight staff on site if you should have a problem at night you have a number to leave a message at then you wait for someone to call you back. We left the motel a little after 9AM and the office was still closed.

Review 27:The room was clean everything in the room worked it was very quiet at night for sleeping. Plenty of free parking good restaurants and stores near by.

Review 28:The cost of the room certainly did'nt justify the amenities recieved. No one at the desk at checkout, not even a continental breakfast...........really.Will not stay or recommend this property to anyone.

Review 29:bathroom floors in corners looked dirty...hallway in side entrance was smelly...sink in bedroom is odd...handprint on window was white and icky

Review 30:excellent wi-fi and bed comfort

Review 31:Pleasant, clean and quiet. Wifi service was interrupted for a short period during stay but otherwise worked. Some small printing/scanning facility would be nice but for the price this a good choice.

Review 32:Your outside pictures are not what the property actually looks like. It's looks run down and very questionable. . It's located behind a Chinese restaurant.

Review 33:The newly renovated rooms and effort towards making the place better was a complete unexpected surprise.

Review 34:WiFi was very sluggish and hard to connect to. Very thin towels

Review 35:The motel was easy to get to but a little oddly located behind several other businesses. The room was clean although a little run down.

Review 36:Room was clean. Bathroom wasn't very clean. Had three towels for three of us. No hand towels or face cloths. Refrigerator was dirty, couldn't figure out how to turn it on but figured it was too dirty anyway. Most of all NO HOT water for our morning shower. We were getting ready to leave when the phone rang and it was telling us we had fifteen minutes to check out. When I told him about towels and water he didn't seem concerned. Never stay there again

Review 37:nothing really except it wasn't too far from the Concert are.

Review 38:could not check in until 3pm and even then it was late. when we did get to go to our room they were still cleaning other rooms and linens etc were in hallways. as a visually impaired person, if I did not have someone with me, that would have caused me to fall. NOT IMPRESSED.

Review 39:free wifi

Review 40:The front desk staff member was extremely rude and tried to overcharge us despite the price reserved online. The managers were very rude and did not seem to respect the customers.

Review 41:The room was recently updated.

Review 42:The water damage in the halls, mildew smell. The bed was advertised as a King but was a Full size bed, disappointing. Everything is outdated.

Review 43:Having a place to sleep and being relatively close to downtown.

Review 44:quiet set back off the highway but has easy excess. It is located 2 miles from the ball park. There is a Dennys and shopping center a block or two away. with in walking distance

Review 45:Desk clerk initially overcharged me by $80 until I caught his error; he asked if we wanted first or second floor room but neglected to say second floor had no elevator & you had to carry your bags up narrow stairs; the hallway had a strange odor; not enough soap in room; our entrance was near back door of a Chinese restaurant where they all took cigarette breaks.

Review 46:For late July in Portland Maine, this is apparently a decent value for the money spent.

Review 47:I didn't like anything, except the bed was comfortable. It smelled of covered up mold and was basically disgusting. However, I think the overall dirty impression made me believe it was worse than it actually was...if that makes sense. I will never go back there.

Review 48:WiFi was not 100% or fast

Review 49:2Nd floor of 500 wing seems to be all refurbished units in good shape.Ground floor units were in process of getting new carpet. Location:Surrounded by shopping centers including a nearby TravelLodge if gettinga satisfactory room had proved as problematic as some reviewersexperienced.

Review 50:Location. Tucked away behind a restaurant; parking lot in poor condition, Exterior quality looks cheap.

Review 51:Fortunately, I sleep in the room. Nice sized room with sitting area; cleanliness excellent, lots of storage space. Only downing was the little fridge that was not working.

Review 52:Front office closed and locked from midnight until next afternoon-----not acceptable in case of emergency or help.

Review 53:Close to interstate 95. Reasonably priced.

Review 54:It was located behind a restaurant and it was scary for a single women travelling alone to walk back to the hotel where the rooms where located.

Review 55:It was very quiet. I think I was the only one there. It was located next to an Asian Rest and I got food to go.

Review 56:Toilets were not functioning it was dirty and every time I left the room I had to go have them give me new keys because I stood locked out every single time

Review 57:Nothing because there was not one thing to like

Review 58:The bed was awful and not sturdy, the linens were dirty, the room reeked of cigarets, and I do not smoke. I had the do not disturb sign at my door and was disturbed repeatedly. The towels in the bathrooms were awful, and extremely dirty! The walls were dirty, and the mirror in my room was dirty. I was disappointed as soon as I walked into the "hotel" because the first thing I noticed in the lobby was dust everywhere!!!! There also isn't 24 hour service. As soon as I got to my room I could tell they had not cleaned it because all the trash cans were filled with trash from the previous visitor! It was a terrible terrible stay.

Review 59:The only thing i liked was the Water pressure in the shower.

Review 60:The hotel is not attached to the lobby but behind a small strip mall. The parking lot is dark. The hallways had a foul odor. However, the room was clean and the beds comfy.

Review 61:The clerk was very friendly and helpful!

Review 62:Location rcear of a restaurant. Wife felt uneasy. Entrance to room through several doors not easy to manoeuvre with luggage. Pricey for what you got. Decor needs lightening.

Review 63:Clean

Review 64:Couldn't cancel early that day because of booking.com and the odor was so overpowering sleep was practically impossible.

Review 65:Well, new paint and maybe carpet

Review 66:The first sketchy sign was the location/layout of the hotel. You pull into a parking lot with a little reception building, a big Chinese restaurant and a smoke shop. You have to call a number on the reception door to get a staff member to come check you in. After that, we were directed to follow the road behind the Chinese restaurant to the actual hotel/our room. We parked, entered the building and were greeted by an awful smell (like a very strong varnish). The room was clean, but freezing and there were no blankets in sight besides the sheet/thin blanket/decorative "tissue" on top. Most concerning things: first thing in the morning, we shut the door and realized that the door could be opened from the outside with a simple shove. We tested it multiple times to ensure it wasn't just the way we were shutting it. That said, anybody could've entered our room at any point that day. To make things better, when we returned to the hotel at ~1AM, we tried to enter our room only to realize that the door wouldn't open. No, it wasn't the card - the green light flashed when we tried the card over and over - the actual door wouldn't open. When you've had issues of not being able to lock the door and you get back to a hotel behind a Chinese restaurantat night to a door that doesn't open for no plausible reason, what's the first thing you think? Yeah, scary. We called the staff who arrived shortly after. He, too, had problems entering the room. When he finally got it open, we asked about reimbursement for one of the nights and he said that all he could do we change our room (yeah, because another room will change things). He said the door was that way due to the "land settling" and that we would've had to check out that morning in order to get money back. What and what?

Review 67:The staff was reactive to issues that arose i.e. bringing my friend and I blankets and coming at late at night to open our room when the door wouldn't open ("due to the land settling"). The rooms themselves were pretty clean. The wifi worked.

Review 68:The room smelled like it had been freshly renovated and painted, and there were no breakfast of any kind available, not even coffee.

Review 69:The guy at the front desk was very helpful, and when we mentioned the aroma of fresh renovations permeating the room, he gave us a can of air freshener which helped considerably.

Review 70:First of all, the receptionist was not at desk, i had to wait around for 29 minutes in very cold office. Then, the room was also cold, they had small space heater on the work desk. There was 26 inch old tube tv, the beds were flat. The carpets had spots all over it as with the blanket, it was so disgusting we didn't spend the night there!

Review 71:phone system a guess cannot call a local number from the room, people coming abroard do not have us number, just arrived sometime want to contact some friends or taxi have to paas trough the reception

Review 72:The palce

Review 73:Location. The price was rediculous. We had a non-smoking room and it reeked of smoke. Our room smelled moldy. It was freezing in our room and there were barley any blankets. The tiles on the bathroom floor were falling off and there was a big chunk missing out of the tile. Half of the outlets in the room didnt work. Everything was way outdated. The location was terrible. No free breakfast.

Review 74:The gentleman at the counter was very nice. On the bus loop.

Review 75:The room that we were originally put it had someone else's things in it! We opened the door and someone else's clothing was on the floor, and there was food on the desk! The shower leaked, the screen for outside was torn. Very uncomfortable, outdated rooms.

Review 76:We stayed 2 different night and had 3 rooms. The 1st night 1 of the rooms had plumbing issues with sink, shower & toilet. Other 2 rooms ok. The 2nd night a different room had toilet issues and another's lock on door broke.

Review 77:It was quiet.

Review 78:No coffee/tea in room. No microwave. Heat by "milk house" heater.Which was very noisy! Very different kind of motel. Maine, need I say more.

Review 79:location was good, not far from downtown. Room was clean. Shower was equivalent to a fire hose at a protest! Free Wi-Fi.

Review 80:Only place with vacancies or we would have stayed elsewhere. Very over priced for a run down hotel in a fair neighborhood. Plug in heater in room so don't recommend this place on a cold night. Appears to be some renovations in progress, but whether our room had been done yet, we don't know.

Review 81:interior was a little beat up and smoke smell and age were horrific in hall but luckily not as bad in rooms. no morning coffee available but could change after renovations are complete

Review 82:the people were very friendly and accommodating, the location is excellent

Review 83:Lobby was creepy. Stairwell / hallway was awful smelling. Carpet was filthy. Ceiling in bathroom had mold / mildew.

Review 84:It was cheap. Near airport. Easy to downtown. Bed appeared to be clean.

Review 85:There was a very strong odor in the hall and room that wasn't pleasant but non descript. Carpet on stairs worn right through and shredding. It was a mess. Not necessarily dirty in the room but he smell made me suspect. Staff from restaurant next door were hanging around smoking and watching us go in. The disrepair of the place have us the creeps. And $100?? Worst hotel I've ever been in

Review 86:They had a room available

Review 87:Old and outdated the smell of Smoke overpowered the hallways No attendent after 12:00 Front desk was separate for all the rooms

Review 88:Room was clean Bed was comfortable

Review 89:Thermostat was sort of wonky

Review 90:I did not want to pay for an expensive hotel so I opted for the Inn at Portland, it was clean and quiet. Overall I felt I got my moneys worth and was pleased

Review 91:had to call telephone number - as noone was at the office at time of check in

Review 92:place was very clean - quiet - was able to concentrate on the work we needed to do

Review 93:The hallways reeked of smoke and the carpets in the hallways were filthy. Just kind of an old creepy place.

Review 94:Location near the airport and the very helpful guy at the front desk.

Review 95:Upon entering the motel building the hallway smelled bad (motel was behind an Asian restaurant but registration/office was near the street) There were several air fresheners in our room, even a car vent one on the A/C unit Older TV and no channel listing card All the lamps had been unplugged, so we had to do that to be able to turn them on

Review 96:Location was great with plenty of fast-food and restaurants around Right beside Maine Turnpike Thicker towels than most motels Refrigerator in room (but it froze everything) When refrigerator wouldn't turn on, someone came and added a surge strip to plug it into, so staff was prompt if you had a complaint Housekeeping staff were friendly and polite

Review 97:Oh god...there was so many things that We didn't like . Our impression was really bad as soon as we entered the room. We smelt mold and room didn't have enough towels, shampoos, freeze was not working etc . As a whole our experience was horrible and finally we were not satisfied with this hotel.

Review 98:The only thing I like about this place was parking .

Review 99:Modern facilities including easy access to wifi, front door key pad, and little flat screen with Chromecast hookups! Delicious choices for light breakfast. Well organized parking options. Simple and friendly. Staff very accessible and helpful in person and by cell phone. Extremely clean and cozy. Slept like a baby.

Review 100:The buildings themselves are in need of extreme remodel. The first roomI was assigned was in a building that smelled overpoweringly musty andof heavy use of cleaning fluids. It was necessary to ask for a roomchange, something which I have never asked before. The attendant wasapologetic and quickly made a change for us, but the next buildingwasn't much better. We left our window open, since we were no longeron the ground floor and felt safer doing so.

Review 101:The location was very easy to find and central to all the necessaryservices and shops. The attendant at the desk was extremelyaccommodating.

Review 102:rude staff, poor building, old furniture, lamps not working, food on carpet which seemed sleazy, unpaved driveways, not waked up by call Lynn - Derby, CT

Review 103:needed to sleep off the street bathroom was clean

Review 104:The hallways were in pretty hard shape and had a bad odor. There was also a bachelor's party going on and the walls aren't particularly thick.

Review 105:Price was decent and the rooms were pretty comfortable and clean.

Review 106:The inn is tough to spot initially. The registration building is in the front of a plaza but the rooms themselves are literally behind a restaurant. Completely run down parking lot next to a dumpster. Didn't really feel safe parking there. The hallway had a terrible odor and the room had a musty smell. There wasn't a mini fridge and there wasn't a chain or deadbolt for the door. Overall we were very disappointed with the experience and would certainly not stay at the Inn at Portland again.

Review 107:The room itself was clean.

Review 108:We arrived at night. The location was scary. Bikers and Truckers hanging out. A smoke/drug shop next door. The halls reeked of cigarette smoke covered up by air freshener. The motel halls were long, dark and scary. The whole experience was pretty rough but the rooms were clean. Old fashion TV barely worked.

Review 109:the price was right. the location near Rt 95 was convenient but the area was fast-food/run down. The rooms were clean. The bed and sheets ok.

Review 110:It could have been cleaner, especially the carpets. It was not dirty, but not detail cleaned....however for the price...

Review 111:I liked that it was only a 10 minute bus ride into town. The room was spacious and comfortable.

Review 112:Under renovations - bolts of carpet were in the hallways; hallways smelled awful; Room was renovated but oddly setup; location was dicey; Rooms are separate from main desk - after check-in - no staff seen anywhere; most expensive hotel we stayed in during an 8 day vacation to 4 spots;

Review 113:We were running behind and were afraid we would miss check in, a phone call to the front desk and they had someone stay a little later for us! Very pleased with the service!

Review 114:The rooms are in buildings separate from registration. I had to walk quite a way in the rain to get to my room.

Review 115:Helpful staff and good value. The room itself was very clean and comfortable.

Review 116:The Inn is a bit musty, the halls can get noisy, and internet access isn't great. Tip - use Google's DNS.

Review 117:The price and location can't be beat. If you just want a basic, no-frills place to crash, this is it.

Review 118:The room was very dated. The location was a bit dodgy - not where you would expect a motel to be. We were worried about leaving the car in the car park where there were smashed bottles and cigarettes every where.

Review 119:The staff were nice and thebroom had a TV and was very tidy.

Review 120:We called ahead to check on our reservation and that we were coming later in the evening and leaving early morning the next day. The lady was so rude and unaccomodating. Says she'll leave the keys under the mat and if we were leaving before 9 not to expect her in the office and not to wake her. Leave the keys in the slot. Prefer to stay at places where they want us to be there, not that see us a an inconvenience.

Review 121:The hallway and room had a really offensive smell that didn't go away. I went to Big Lots down the road and purchased room fresheners which helped greatly during our stay.

Review 122:We slept very well, which is unusual for me any time I'm away from home. The room was spacious, very clean and the rate was VERY resonable for high toursit summer season.

Review 123:Beds very old and uncomfortable. Wi-fi was weak and slow. Customer service was horrible. Front desk not open during the day. Only after 3pm. Rooms old and out dated. Still has the old hotels signs up (ie. map on back of door said there was a pool, there was no pool) Wife got bed bugs from the beds. Fridge was unplugged and when it got plugged in, it wasn't working. (After we left our food in there for the day while we were out and it went bad sitting in a warm fridge) Only reason we stayed here is because it's vacancy. Would NOT recommend this to anyone.

Review 124:Vacancy

Review 125:The directions as to where to park, the smells we had to contend with inside and out of the building, parking was full and we had to park parallel to the trash of the restaurant by the building, basically we were glad to be up and out and in our way...

Review 126:Not much.

Review 127:Stay at the Motel 6 across the street and save yourself $100. I bet it is nicer. Room smelled like bad disinfectant. Hotel is run down and depressing. Still trying to figure out where they get off charging $184 a night (with tax) when I state in a charming Kennebunk Inn for less than that.

Review 128:I was on the first floor, and there was a wooden bar securing my window. I felt unsafe between that bar and the lack of a latch on my chain lock. I ended up moving a chair in front of my door. Also, my bathroom was not clean. There was a roll of toilet paper on top of my toilet that was saturated with discolored liquids and mold. Gross! The toilet seat was philthy and the shower was equally dirty. I would not come back. Nobody was at the front desk in the morning for me to talk to. Definitely a disappointment.

Review 129:The inside of the room was up to date.

Review 130:Complete surprise!! I booked because of the view check in office. Got there everything was completely different it's like an isolated area.

Review 131:The Asian bistro

Review 132:This is a very large motel. There is a restaurant in the front of the motel by the road. All part of the same building. When we drove around to the back, where our room was, there was only one car in the other adjoining building. Upon entering the hall of our floor you could smell a musty smell in the hall. In the room also, but not as strong once we put the air-conditioner on. But the next morning when we left early there was still only the one car in the next building. Kind of spooky. Very strange for a large motel to have only two cars there.

Review 133:Room was clean, not crowded. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was clean. Man at the front desk was very friendly. Wi-Fi worked okay.

Review 134:Not the cleanest or nicest hotel. Location was sketchy. Other guests were loud.

Review 135:Bed was comfortable. clerk was friendly. ac worked well. good water pressure in shower.
