Reviews for The Brown Hotel
Review 1:It was a little further from the Yum Center than we liked. Still within walking distance, but it was chilly.
Review 2:We stayed for New Year's Eve. Hotel is absolutely beautiful and the staff was amazing.
Review 3:The area around the hotel is dead, even in the day, and especially for a 'downtown'. We realize that the surrounding environment is beyond the control of the hotel, but maybe something can be done by the City.
Review 4:We had a large corner room with windows on two sides. The room was quiet. The lobby area is beautiful
Review 5:Server in the Pub was not engaged in his job (Chris) he was distant (however polite). Would have preferred a friendly approach. At 2:48 am on 8th floor the bellperson brought up another guest and said "enjoy your stay!" so loud it woke us out of a sound sleep & we did not get back to sleep for 2 hrs.
Review 6:The staff--Susan was especially helpful. I forgot my curling iron in the bathroom and the maid brought it to the front desk as we were checking out.
Review 7:for a hotel of this status they should have a better wine menu especially in the restaurants. they did not have a good - up grade wine list. the wine was cheap wine.
Review 8:The history and the character of the hotel was total beauty / I felt the walls talk - ALL GOOD TOO. Close your eyes and go back in time. It made me chill. Lovely décor.
Review 9:Shower was hard to understand and the nice walk in closet had no light, so it made it hard to navigate.
Review 10:Beautiful lobby and wonderful bar and food. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 11:We had a family of four so got the room with 2 beds. Most hotels have 2 queens, this room was 2 double (full?) size beds. They were a tight squeeze for 2 people.
Review 12:Loved the architecture in the lobby. The "hot brown" ordered through room service was fantastic! Convenient location. Received free upgrade to club level which was such a treat.
Review 13:Rooms starting to look a little tired considering the price and decor of the main areas of the hotel
Review 14:Tried the world famous hot brown! Comfort food at its best! Good location, 4th Street Live just along the street
Review 15:Wish there were mini-fridges in rooms. Parking a bit of an issue, but staff did all they could to help us with it.
Review 16:Club Level room was wonderful! And every staff member we came in contact with was welcoming and helpful. Very clean room.
Review 17:The Brown is a charming place and conveniently located to access the best of Louisville. (We love the ambiance of the lobby bar and the appointments of the rooms.) It's a short drive to our favorite restaurant -- Lilly's on Bardstown Road. And we've enjoyed walking and driving to our new go-to breakfast or lunch spot, the wonderful French bistro, Ghyslain, in the NuLu area off East Market.
Review 18:I liked the fact that The Brown was right downtown -- literally just a few doors from the event I came to see. I liked the fact that room service was available around the clock. I liked the fact that you could socialize, eat and drink comfortably and casually in the lobby bar before and after a show. I like how much ROOM there was in the room -- a walk-in closet, too! The staff were all helpful and friendly. I love old hotels with history to them.
Review 19:Bathroom chilly. Maybe a rug would help?
Review 20:Southern hospitality at its best. EVERY member of staff was smiling and helpful. Room was lovely and, well, roomy. And the historic building: gorgeous. Easy walk--but not a short walk-- to downtown attractions.
Review 21:There was nothing to find wrong here.
Review 22:This hotel has it all! The physical beauty is overwhelming and the service is top-notch. Upgrade to Club Floor for breakfast and after dinner drinks. Kelly in the club room an incredible asset.
Review 23:The hotel is beautiful and comfortable. We had a wonderful stay relaxing at the bar and enjoying the fantastic breakfast buffet. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We will definitely stay again.
Review 24:Bathroom a real bummer. While the room was lovely there was a definite moldy smell.
Review 25:The dinner was fabulous. A truly wonderful experience! However the dress code was business casual and they were seating peoe with tee shirts. They should insist on appropriate attire!!
Review 26:no complaints
Review 27:Staff was friendly and attentive, meals were good and always felt as though the staff was there to please the us with whatever we may ask for.
Review 28:Walls are extremely thin and you can hear the people in the next room and even the bathroom. Very rude young kids (teens/twenties) yelling and arguing in the hallway at 4:00am and disrupted the floor for an hour. Security did not act fast enough to control the situation. Plus the phone by the bed did not work. Will not stay again. Did not feel the value for the price paid for the stay.
Review 29:Very historic place and beautiful. Great location. Food was excellent and staff very courteous.
Review 30:A perfect place to celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary. The entire environment and staff spoke of grace, welcome, and professionalism. Thanks, Sam and Jane McClain, Madison, Alabama
Review 31:Very convenient for museums, restaurants and shops. Within a few minutes walk of everything, including the river and baseball park. Breakfast was excellent, and the staff very courteous and helpful.
Review 32:Nothing
Review 33:Very friendly staff
Review 34:The Full sized beds are small for a hotel.
Review 35:Staff was friendly, the room had a refrigerator.
Review 36:The ambience and absolute friendliness of the service.

Review 44:the decor / rooms were a little tired.
Review 45:location and hotel's feel were wonderful
Review 46:Beautiful building. Really enjoyed the ornate detail.
Review 47:Old, smelly, nothing in area, WAY overpriced.
Review 48:Waste of money. Bad location. Extremely old and dated. Old smelling.
Review 49:We love the Brown. It's elegant, comfortable and feels truly special.
Review 50:A bit pricey
Review 51:Staff
Review 52:We had water in our room on the carpet and when we asked for a new room it took a few different tries and we never got a room as good as the first.
Review 53:Service was above and beyond!
Review 54:The Lobby bar and restaurant were both terrific. The hot brown couldn't have been better! Great Bourbon flight!
Review 55:ambiance of hotel is incredible!
Review 56:beautiful public areas,beautiful room,friendly staff,good location
Review 57:horrible wifi. Unable to use for 2 nights
Review 58:atmosphere not a disney creation, but the result of the history and track record of the hotel
Review 59:Charming rooms and very well appointed!
Review 60:everything
Review 61:The Hot Brown

Review 66:Helpfulness of staff Food very good Service was timely Beauty of hotel Location
Review 67:knothing
Review 68:what wasn't there to like!
Review 69:Seems a little expensive for what you get. Room size is small, with thin walls. Was still a very comfortable stay.
Review 70:Location Ambiance History
Review 71:No complaints
Review 72:Great staff knows how to make guests feel welcome and well served
Review 73:What's not to like, I suppose I wish it was a bit more affordable.
Review 74:Magnificent room, fabulous bar, great staff
Review 75:It was our anniversary and they made us feel special:) Highly recommend the brown
Review 76:The delicate detail on the walls, ceilings, and trim took my breath away. Such a beautiful, historic piece of architecture.
Review 77:Would have liked breakfast included in price of the room.
Review 78:A classic!
Review 79:Nothing.
Review 80:Easy to find, convenient to the Cathedral, restaurants and the Palace. Historic charm.
Review 81:Brown is lovely. Full of character and charm. Staff and location are top-notch.
Review 82:Some of the surrounding area is a bit abandoned and an interesting walk to the more populated areas.
Review 83:Clean hotel, maintained well.
Review 84:We love old, refurbished hotels and were graciously welcomed. The rooms are in period decor with a relaxed atmosphere. Our meals were excellent and the staff was eager to please. My husband would like to make two trips to the Brown instead of our yearly one trip. It's the best!
Review 85:Taxes on hotel bill ended up being approximately 16%. Almost as much as Chicago!
Review 86:Beautiful hotel, outstanding staff and service. Very nice breakfast buffet. Valet parking was a nice feature and didn't cost much more than self parking overnight.
Review 87:Guy that checked me in gave me wrong room with someone already staying in it. Was awkward when I was trying to get into room and someone else was in it.
Review 88:The hotel is beautiful. Very nice kept, comfortable bed.
Review 89:Because the lobby was so beautifully ornate, I would have expected similar design in the room. Our room was large, clean, and comfortable, but I was hoping for a nicer bathroom. We may have been in a handicapped room, because the bathroom was huge but the bathtub and shower were very small. I would have expected a larger garden tub in this kind of room.
Review 90:This is a beautiful, old hotel in downtown Louisville. The location is within walking distance to 4th street Live and a short drive to the Highlands.
Review 91:Missed an in room fridge but not a big deal.
Review 92:Location, lobby and bar area were lovely, wonderful staff, rooms were spacious, happy hour and breakfast on club level, decor
Review 93:small rooms when you open the door it almost touches the bed dark and dingy decor dated worn and dirty carpets grossly overpriced for what you get it looks old it smells old it is old would not go back
Review 94:the lobby
Review 95:Love to stay in historic hotels. Staff was great - we were put in alovely room. Front desk called to check and make sure "the first 20minutes of your stay has been awesome." Good advice on where wecould walk for a drink and late snack.
Review 96:This was a gift to my son. He and his fiancee were so impressed with the atmosphere and the buffet on their floor that they were late to their own engagement party. No better endorsement than that.
Review 97:My room was "significantly" smaller and I had to pay the same price. No outside seating to enjoy the city at night with a cocktail.
Review 98:Great location, beautiful design.
Review 99:That the in-room coffee and tea service is kept in the bathroom- doesnot seem very sanitary to me and I went elsewhere for my morning tea. Also, perplexed that the late night menu in the lobby does not offerany type of food that would go with the wonderful cocktails that arebeing served. We wanted a Cheese plate or caviar, or Shrimp Cocktail, but were told that they weren't available but that a hamburger was-just a very strange item to have available and really not a very classychoice for such a beautiful room, and certainly was the last thing Iwould want with a martini. Hamburgers are for road trips, not for anevening having cocktails with friends- so we went elsewhere for somelight food and cocktails, which was a disappointment as we wanted toenjoy the gorgeous lobby
Review 100:Loved the professionalism and courtesy of the staff- so very nice. Lovethe history and beauty of the building, and the pride that theestablishment takes in its own history. Beds and furniture very nice.Food and drinks are excellent. My favorite hotel in Louisville.
Review 101:While there is a shuttle downtown, it is only available if the shuttleis not taking people to the airport, and while we were there it wasmaking a lot of trips to the airport. However, cabs came fast and it isunder $10 to get downtown.
Review 102:Very friendly. Very nice looking. Comfortable bed. Great water pressurein the shower.
Review 103:The smell of rancid grease from the ventilation system in the english room along with the fruit fly problem. Bed too small for a couple to sleep in. Lack of staff at 4 -6 pm in the lobby bar. Made two attempts to pay my tab and finally gave up knowing that the server had my room #. I am sure a gratuity was added. I would recommend to others with caution.
Review 104:The history
Review 105:I thought the overall appearance of the hotel hallways and rooms were abit "wilted". The floral arrangements on the desks, thepotpourri etc... was aged past its' prime.
Review 106:The staff was wonderful and very helpful.
Review 107:The lady, who was working in the Hospitality Suite, Sunday, A.M., seemeddisorganized, unprepared, and instead of cleaning and providing acontinental breakfast, all she seemed to provide was excuses why she hadran out of the breakfast items. The lady on duty the previous eveningwas kind, and very accomodating however. Many visitors were unhappy, andafter waiting more than thirty minutes for coffee, napkins, flatware, etc., they left feeling very disappointed, I know that I did, &after bussing my own table. I visit your establishment once or twice ayear, as a week end get-away, but may have to reconsider.
Review 108:My room was beautiful and spacious, offering comfort, quiet, andprivacy. I live in Indy, and love visiting the Brown, for mini-week-ends, away from the hustle & bustle.
Review 109:The staff was very friendly!
Review 110:We ordered room service and it was a half hour late. If we had been on a tight schedule it would have been cancelled.
Review 111:$250 per night, pretty steep. My lamp lacked a light bulb. NO view.
Review 112:clean, location, staff.
Review 113:The staff was very helpful!
Review 114:service at the outlying bar, we waited 45 minutes for a horrible cold appetizer.
Review 115:front desk staff was professional and welcoming.
