Reviews for Fireside Inn & Suites Portland
Review 1:The front desk was very pleasant and helpful. The man in the dining room was truly a gentleman. He sat us plus waited on us too. He was so pleasant and friendly. The breakfast was delicious, so he even brought the cook out to meet us. She was also sweet. Overall , great experience. We have stayed here many times! We will be back this weekend. Thank you! Valerie parise
Review 2:It is situated close to a highway and the traffic sounds were a bit irritating -- but it wasn't like there was a semi in your room or anything.
Review 3:Great value for money -- spacious, nicely decorated, clean rooms. Provided a lot more than one would expect from a three-star hotel. I had to work from the room and the wi-fi was fast and the room well-suited for business travel.
Review 4:It felt pretty expensive for a budget hotel but much cheaper than anything downtown Portland. The rooms, linenes and decor had been upgraded but there was a very low-rent-district feel to the bldg overall.
Review 5:The staff was helpful and efficient, even with a long line at check-in. Being able to stay in a room with an actual fireplace was just what I wanted and the outdoor courtyard was very nice. Plus, able to dunk my head under water in the small indoor pool, just enough to feel refeshed.
Review 6:No personal touches but otherwise bland and faceless. "View" from window was of car park.
Review 7:Very ordinary large hotel. Like any other hotel in any other city. Nothing particular to recommend or condemn.
Review 8:Desk clerk gave us wrong directions to room. Mold on window sills and obvious poor fix of ceiling with water damage. Spa not located near pool. Improper ladder to get into spa.
Review 9:Location was great. Quiet rooms and plenty of hot water. That's about all in its favor.
Review 10:Bathroom sink leaking. Room could use updated furniture. Floors squeaky, could use carpet, bathroom door opens with no room to walk in without walking into the tub.
Review 11:Easley located.
Review 12:Full humidifier in the room that we had to empty. Musty smell. Hair in tub. Refrigerator had parts fall off when we opened the door. Hairdryer came off wall when used breakfast was awful. Our room required walking through cleaning headquarters. Room service forgot utensils and room service dishes outside room all night.
Review 13:It was quiet
Review 14:Checked out several hotels and chose this one because of the heated indoor and outdoor pools. Big mistake neither pool was heated and the hot tub was a gnarly greasy pool of grime. The indoor pool is in a heated glass room but the water was quite chilly, there was not even a waft of steam from the outdoor pool late in the evening. We could have stayed at a few hotels with an equal rating for about $100 less for the three night stay. The hotel was great but the pools were a complete bait and switch tactic.
Review 15:The room was clean and quite nice, linens were fresh and bedding was comfy. Reservation said breakfast wasn't included but they serve a continental breakfast everyday available to all guests.
Review 16:Room was not ready at checkin. Front staff was flustered. Room was not vacuumed. Found candy, coins and crayons on floor. Tissue box was empty. Housekeeping was knocking on the door at 8AM. Very noisy.
Review 17:Location
Review 18:The facility was old and dated. The room had a musty odor. The carpet in the hallway was stretched and wrinkled.
Review 19:The staff was friendly and pleasant. The facility was easy to find and close to the highway exit. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.
Review 20:The bathroom was not very clean. Hair in the tub, etc. Booking.com sent me an email and the weekend after we stayed was $100 cheaper.
Review 21:Location was good. The staff was very nice. We arrived early and they had an available room.
Review 22:The place is really tired!!! Even the doors to the outside didn't work. The staff was rude to a point of disbelief! The woman who runs housekeeping woke us up at 8:30am (check out was11am) and gave me a hard time. What a terrible experience. If it was free it wouldn't be worth it.
Review 23:Nothing other than the price which turned out to be more than it was worth.
Review 24:The room looked as thoough it was recently flooded. The carpet was damp, and we could see the water drippings on the wall and ceiling. They had a dehumidifier in the room but it did not help. The air was moist and smelly.
Review 25:The bed was very comfortable
Review 26:Front desk gave wrong directions to our room and then argued with me when I told her we couldn't find it. She finally recognized her mistake with the directions she gave and apologized.
Review 27:The Bed, very comfortable!
Review 28:With our first room being flooded (carpeting soaking wet), we were moved to a 2nd floor room. Staff showed very little regret for our inconvenience, and overall rating reflects this appropriately. Also, continental breakfast was skimpy at best. Perhaps full size napkins, at least?
Review 29:Very close to highway and all points Portland.
Review 30:none
Review 31:Our room was great; a king size bed and a spacious room. Location was closed to both elevator and stairs. The employee that checked us in was very efficient as well as personable. We were impressed with the Gob/Whoopee pie that we were given.
Review 32:The rooms are getting dated and the bathroom needed cleaning ( dirty air vent) , toilet was secured by one bolt and dingy appearance. We were located in the room next to an exit and the secure door was not working and then it slammed closed all night. We have been here before but it really is showing its age.
Review 33:There was a bit of trash/ some empty beer bottles in the parking lot that we saw when we drove in, and the sight was a bit off-putting.
Review 34:Heated Swimming Pools
Review 35:They need to update their televisions to flat screen. We rented a movie and picture and audio clarity were poor. And the volume on the remote did not work well. The room rate was a bit pricey because of close location to Portland.
Review 36:We needed a place close to highway as it was only a stopover, and we had to leave early and get right back on the road, and this location was great for that while still being in a nice area. Bed was very comfortable, room was quiet. The in-room heating and cooling unit was much quieter than most but still could have used one notch lower fan speed. Breakfast was good for a free continental and nice variety of fruits and pastries, and allowed us to get back on the road quickly.
Review 37:I wish coffee and snacks had been more available. (We arrived after breakfast and before dinner and did not have a vehicle)
Review 38:LOVED that Fireside is "removed" from the hubbub of the city of Portland -- it felt very relaxing & safe. Front desk staff, housekeeping, & shuttle driver were GREAT!!! Restaurant was really nice and the food was fabulous. Staff were excellent !
Review 39:The pillows were horrible. They reminded me of my throw pillows on my couch
Review 40:Location was perfect for what we were looking for. Was clean and comfortable and I loved the whoopie pie
Review 41:We were given keys to a room that was never touched after the last guests left. Also when we were given a new and cleaned room the bed linen was not properly on the mattresses. The over head light was out in the entry. the bulb was replaced quickly. Rooms should be checked by a supervisor.
Review 42:Staff was quick and helpful
Review 43:Wish they would have reminded us to use our Marriott charge card for double points. It was our mistake but it would have been nice if they would have at least asked the question.
Review 44:Great property, close to airport. Nice breakfast, clean facility
Review 45:Convenient location to grocery store and other points of interest. Hotel was quiet. My daughter love the fact that there was an indoor and outdoor pool. Only wished that room service was available a little later than 9pm. Overall we had a wonderful stay.
Review 46:The housekeeping wasn't especially great, but I can't say all of the housekeeping staff. Just the person cleaning our room didn't do a great job.
Review 47:Front desk staff so nice and helpful with everything. Heated outdoor pool excellent especially in the evening when it got a little cooler. Restaurants nearby were great if you were too tired to go out, plus restaurant onsite nice too.
Review 48:The room was filthy - there was a cigarette in the nightstand drawer and there were receipts, etc. not from us on the desk. We came back one day and the beds were very sloppily made and all the pillows were on one bed not back on the beds. One mattress was not on correctly over the box spring. The people at the desk did not know where some of the attractions were located and were not willing to do any research.
Review 49:Location was excellent - available to a lot of sites. Pool and outdoor areas were beautiful and relaxing.
Review 50:The outdoor pool was dirty. Hard for my Mom to climb up the hot tub on those steep stairs. Hot tub too hot
Review 51:The fact it had a beautiful outdoor pool sauna and hot tub
Review 52:Not down town at all. 20 dollar cab ride to dt. Not a 5 star hotel so dont expect it.
Review 53:Awesomely priced close to the malls great pool. Free shuttle to the airport.
Review 54:The continental breakfast area-breakfast area didn't look inviting & although staff tried to maintain it, it looked sort of "cheesey". Paid for a rollaway (which is why front desk got good review from me-for holding a cot.) The cot came from Holiday Inn and had to be from the 70's, made from painful springs that poked through the mattress. I was charged for it because I mentioned after my bill was run.
Review 55:Front desk staff. Restaurant staff could be more friendly and accomodating, looked annoyed when asked for items.
Review 56:Didn't like having a hard floor in room instead of carpet. Hallways were rundown and dingy looking.
Review 57:Room was clean. Bed was very comfortable. Woman at desk who checked us in was friendly and helpful.
Review 58:There's a lack of electrical plugs to use. The (non-smoking) room smelled like smoke. There were dirt scuffs on the bathroom door.
Review 59:The furnishings were very up to date. The pool and bed were excellent. Breakfast was so-so.
Review 60:Got upgraded to a bigger room for no cost. That was a nice start to the trip. Staff was very friendly. Room was very clean and comfortable. It was more than I expected
Review 61:Continental breakfast had no protein of any kind. Pancake machine was out of order, so breakfast consisted of bread, bagels & muffins, accompanied by very tired looking yogurt and fruit, a couple of cereal selections, juice, milk or coffee. Toaster worked great, but some meat and/or eggs would have been much appreciated. A la carte menu was available for those who wanted to add on to the continental. Ice machine in our wing was broken, but the next wing over had a working one.
Review 62:Pool area is wonderful - rubber mats around pool take away worries of slips or falls for kids. Location in central courtyard of five sides is quiet and relaxing but still with good sun exposure. Location near highway and near town (but not near port) was good but not fantastic. Hotel was somewhat dated, but mattress was firm and pillows were nice. A/C worked. Ample parking, free whoopie pie at checkin, friendly staff, who followed up with a phone call to room to make sure that the room was suitable. Rollaway cot was very promptly delivered. Mini fridge and Keurig coffee maker in room. Grocery store and a couple of restaurants across the street. Quiet peaceful sleep.
Review 63:The elevator access to the room was a 10 minute walk from the room. I had to go there 2x because the key did not work. I was finally given a room on the ground floor. The halls were dirty and there was a lot of noise. The staff was really unfriendly and unhelpful.
Review 64:Poor maintenance of the rooms. Preling drywall tape. Mold in bathroom. Broken tub drain.
Review 65:Fair rate for what we got. Very family oriented. Only 15 minutes from downtown. Easy access to highways.
Review 66:Another guest reported a theft while we were checking in. We didn't feel our belongings were safe. High price for a old dirty hotel. Terrible breakfast.
Review 67:Nothing
Review 68:Booking.com has worked flawlessly for me for several trips. Fireside lost the fax from booking. They told me not to use 3rd party booking programs in the future as an excuse for their mistake.
Review 69:The continental breakfast was the most complete I have seen.
Review 70:problems with magnetic key cards, halls rather dark & smelly, interior of room - paper wall trim hanging and held with push pins, phone problem when we checked in was fixed, loose carpet in room was a hazard, layout is a large "U" shape with one elevator at lobby end, luggage trolley not convenient, indoor pool room very hot & humid, external doors very worn and it appeared night security lock would yield to a credit card or piece of wire, ate in restaurant/bar . . . one server for whole place and about 45 minutes from order to delivery . . . running out of space.
Review 71:location & bed comfort good staff pleasant but appears to be under staffed especially in restaurant
Review 72:We would have liked scrambled eggs or a breakfast sandwich so we could have more protein.
Review 73:We came in after midnight. They secured a cab and made sure we had everything we needed in a very pleasant and helpful manner.
Review 74:#1 -room was hot...had dehumindifier in rm... No help. Had to chage rooms. 2nd rm was cool. #2 - Lobby was uncomfortably warm. Small computer/printer rm( needed to print boarding pass) was w/out ac at all.... Printer did not work, after 30 min attempt to get printer working asked desk for assistance... Maintence could not get it working either. Had to request staff at front desk to please use theirs( they failed to even offer).., they did NOT know how!!...,,had to instuct how to do it. It got done.
Review 75:proximity to airport
Review 76:Coffee maker in room did not work! The pillows are terrible l! The room could use an update! The breakfast was minimal continental for sure! The price of the hotel far exceeded any benefits! Will not stay there again! Hampton Inn & Suites are best all around and they give military discounts!!!
Review 77:The lobby was very nice and the complimentary Whoopie pies!!
Review 78:$20 more at check out than I was told on line. Clerk blamed on line folks, and conveniently the wifi was down so I could not show him.
Review 79:Comfort of room, bed. Clean. Heated pool outdoors.
Review 80:The Wi-Fi was hit or miss. Mostly miss. The back of the bathroom door was filthy. Our room was next door to the laundry room so it was a busy intersection with the room carts and the dryers going. I had booked this room back in Nov. 2014 so I was disappointed in the room location. We went out shortly after checking in and when we arrived back, our keys didn't work. The front desk showed we had not checked-in and the room was showing vacant.
Review 81:The continental breakfast was very good but they ran out of coffee often. (Get bigger pots.) The cooked breakfast was done to perfection. Staff was very friendly and helpful when our "keys" didn't work.
Review 82:We had a miscommunication but they fixed everything.
Review 83:They were very flexible when I needed changes on the reservations. We also had another issue with the room being available late, and they didn't charge us for the night. Plus, you get a whoopie pie (Maine treat) when you check in!!
Review 84:We had a bad experience during our stay here last weekend. We had a problem with the seal on the toliet which caused the toliet to leak in the bathroom which we determined @ 10pm. We asked for another room and was given a room which was already occupied and we woke the person up. We were given a second room and after opening the door, found out that room was occupied and we woke them up!! Finally we were given a third room which was not occupied but quite a distance from the main office and got settled about 11pm. The room was ok but the air conditioner vents were quite dusty and blowed dirty air on us all night. Needless to say, we didn't stay our second night.
Review 85:Due to the issues we had with our stay, the hotel didn't charge us for our stay.
Review 86:Bathroom floors were peeling. I wish that the room had a microwave in it.
Review 87:Although I thought that this was a bit pricey, it was still the cheapest rate that I could get for the time that I stayed there
Review 88:Shower head was not high enough. I am 6' tall and it looked me straight in the face. Very uncomfortable to wash my hair. The room needs a little cosmetic update. Ceiling border was falling down and held up in places by push pins.
Review 89:Good location with easy access to downtown and 95. We did not get a chance to use the pool, but others were having a good time. Restaurant was nice, with a good menu.
Review 90:Pleasant surrounds and a spacious room. Dinner at the onsite restaurant was very good. Breakfast was substantial and delicious. Staff were very friendly
Review 91:We asked if we could check in at 12 noon. We got there at 1:00. Told we could get our room at 1:30. We went back at 1:30 and was told that it would be 2:30. Other people came in and got their rooms while we did not. We went back to reception at 2:45 to be told the room was still not ready. They gave us another one and it wasn't cleaned property. Not a good stay.
Review 92:room smelled like smoke when we first got there, even though it was a non smoking room.
Review 93:it was perfect for what we needed. we went to a wedding and only used it to get ready, shower and sleep. beds were comfy, convenient location. free parking.
Review 94:We stayed for 2 nights and our room was never cleaned while we were there. Left for the day and returned to the room exactly how we left it. Never been to a hotel that doesn't clean room daily.
Review 95:Failure to clean our room on one occasion: change towels/make bed etc. Failure to replace shower gel and mouth wash on 3 occasions.
Review 96:Staff were very good, especially the staff in the restaurant.. Room was very comfortable. Setting ideal.
Review 97:for the price i expected more from the room. this didn't look or feel like it should have for what it cost. however it did seem on par with other rooms in the portland area which all seemed to be more expensive than other cities. so who knows...
Review 98:the whoopee pies were a nice touch
Review 99:The furnace was broken, so we didn't have or had to wait for hot-water both days. We were late to our conference because we had to wait for hot-water. However, the staff discounted our stay.
Review 100:Staff was great, wifi was good and so was cable selection. The room was clean and we weren't too far away from our conference in south portland or from food sources.
Review 101:First room we were given was not clean. The carpet was smelly. No restaurant in the motel.
Review 102:After moving to another room it was good. Rooms are quiet and very roomy
Review 103:The rooms are a bit rundown. The bracket on the bed frame was sticking out and my husband bruised his shin on it. Whoever made the bed should have noticed this. We spoke to the front desk, they apologized, and it was fixed by the time we were returned. The next morning, the housekeeping staff was knocking on our door at 9:00. Not just one knock but a consistent knock so that we had to answer the door. We were up but we would have been very upset if we had planned on sleeping Granted it was a Friday morning, but checkout is 11:00 AM.
Review 104:We have stayed here before since it is close to family, allows pets, and is reasonably priced for the Portland area. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We usually have our dog with us, but not this time.
Review 105:Everything was good, but the gentleman that did our check-in ( I believe his name was Rob) was quite rude with us. Didn't reply everytime we saluted him, looked like he was in abad mood, and the worst part of it was when he throw two gift snacks to the balcony, after saying " you're two right?". Very unpleasant. The staff that we met in the morning were very nice.
Review 106:Very clean, close to city, comfortable, very quiet.
Review 107:Wifi was erratic. We were misinformed when we checked in that continental breakfast would be served until 11. We arrived at 10:05 and found that the staff was packing up the breakfast to accommodate the brunch crowd
Review 108:There honestly isn't any very specific negative comment I have. I just don't see any major differences between the $120 room I stayed in and the much cheaper options. I also wish they had told me the wifi password upon arrival without me asking, and had free coffee in the lobby. A $120 room should have some luxury.
Review 109:The room was clean and comfortable. Staff were fine
Review 110:The meal and service at Zachary's, the hotel restaurant, was terrible. The waitress was unfriendly and uninformed
Review 111:The hotel rooms were very nice and roomy. Location was convenient.
Review 112:Allocated a room very far in...but I guess you can't always get a good room
Review 113:Prompt delivery of extra bed that we requested. Clean. Live band playing in the bar. Easy parking.
Review 114:The hotel is too far out of the city to be a tourist hotel - it is a traveler's hotel. So much time was wasted driving to and from the city. Breakfast was adequate.
Review 115:Adequate. The room was clean and comfortable
Review 116:Noisy heater in the room. Maid did not clean off desk top. Left dirty dishes. Found part of a cigarette (we are non smokers) on our bed.
Review 117:Location is good. Staff is friendly. Liked the mini fridge in the room.
Review 118:Hallways had slight musty smell Carpet seemed a bit dreary and old Small, but adequate bathoom
Review 119:The pub food and bartender Colleen Good, accommodating shuttle service
Review 120:The pillows were tiny and lumpy. Took forever to get the a/c working right in the room but once it did, it did a good job of keeping temperature steady. The coffee pot didn't work and the clock was set wrong and try as we might couldn't get it to be the right time. The cleaning staff, though friendly, doesn't speak English so it was very difficult to make ourselves understood. The wi-fi worked sporadically. The view from our room was an oil tanker permanently displayed. A fence would really make a difference.
Review 121:The beds were very comfortable and the staff were friendly. There was a wedding taking place and they put us far away from the wedding guests. Continental breakfast was decent even having pancakes.
Review 122:Booked through Booking.com. Rate charged by location was $30 more than on line. It was a communication problem between Booking.com and the hotel. Not the hotels fault.
Review 123:NO negatives! Clean, very comfortable, great location & the front desk staff was so helpful.
Review 124:They didn't tell my wife and I that they were doing construction on all the rooms around us so we were woken up promptly at 7am to the sound of power tools, yelling and moving of furniture. When we entered to hallway to leave we saw all the beds and furniture from all the rooms around us set up like an obstacle course around us. For $140 a night we would have been better off at a motel.
Review 125:Nice staff who were able to help us get directions there when we became lost. Friendly.
Review 126:I had requested an early check-in and knowing that this was not guaranteed, I was OK with not being able to check in early. I was disappointed that our room still was not ready at 3:00 which is check-in time.
Review 127:I especially liked the continental breakfast. Lots of choices and a nie dining room in whichto enjoy our breakfast
Review 128:The smell of the leaning agents used, particularly in the hallways, was reminiscent of cheap motels. All carpets needed to be replaced in hallways and lobby.
Review 129:The public areas were lovely
Review 130:Supposed to be no smoking room but smoking had definatly occurred previously. A little too far from downtown
Review 131:Staff friendly Amenities good Room clean and spacious
Review 132:Wish breakfast had been included and that we could have stayed longer!
Review 133:Super friendly and accommodating staff- especially Andrey! Our room and bathroom were spotless. Location and accessibility to Portland and highways to everywhere are a stone's throw away. Restaurant on site was terrific too!
Review 134:The bathroom did have hair on the floor. The room in general was clean. It could use some updating and more professional repairs. Caulking in the shower was gooped on around the fixtures and at tub seam. The continental breakfast was less than average but that is not the problem... guests who take advantage of the inclusive breakfast sit in the restaurant with other guests but are required to use plastic utensils and treated as second rate customers. NOT COOL!
Review 135:The front desk team was attentive and accommodating. The room was mostly clean and comfortable. Water pressure was great. Hot water lasted.
Review 136:No fan in bathroom, fogged up mirror. Bed (King) too soft, pillows, too small for size bed, even though there were plenty.
Review 137:K-cups in rooms, clean, nice for large gatherings
Review 138:The room was damp and smelled as if someone had been smoking in there. The damp was so bad that the wallpaper was peeling away. When I complained the duty staff said it was because it had been raining. No, IT WAS DAMP and SMELLY!
Review 139:Breakfast was good and there was ample parking space.
Review 140:The location was not picturesque, being near shopping malls, rather than in the pretty town of Portland.
Review 141:The best part of this hotel is the outdoor space, with a lovely, small pool, and nice seating areas. The inside lobby is comfortable, with several areas for seating, making private conversation possible.
