Review 1：The room wasn't very soundproof. We heard a lot of noise from upstairs. Person at the front desk wasn't very helpful.

Review 3：On the web site it listed a hot tub and pool and there wasn't one. The staff wanted to argue with me over what the web site says. The breakfast wasn't like what the pictures show.

Review 5：I was charged for a room with ocean view, but my view was of the parking lot where there was discarded furniture and the building across the street. I had expected a better view like the rooms that had a balcony & faced the ocean.

Review 9：I honestly felt like the staff couldn't have cared less about me or what I needed. I hung the do not disturb sign on the door and got a phone call at 10am asking for confirmation that I did not wish to be disturbed. It seemed redundant.
Review 10：The room was exactly as promised, the price was stellar, and the beach and a little waterfront downtown section are only two blocks away. It's on a quiet street, very private.

Review 13：Room service is not very sharp. There was a candy bar on the floor in plain sight left from the previous guests. The person cleaning the room missed the obvious. Also, the room had a musty, 'old' smell to it. The odor saturated all of my clothing. Also, when I checked out the following morning no one was staffing the front desk. I had to wrap my key cards in paper, write my room # on it, and put it on the desk. The place felt abandoned.

Review 15：The owner, or whoever was at the front desk was very rude and unwelcoming. They had lost our reservation at first and tried to overcharge. Also they complained about our 2 year old being too loud, at 10am.

Would be nice to have a couple of vending machines so travelers don't have to go out to a store to get a midnight drink.

Review 23：Where do I start? We were not very happy with this motel. One of the pillow cases was dirty, like someone had stepped on it. Carpet would also need some deep cleaning and room was stuffy when we got in and smelled like it hadn't been opened in days. They had only provided towels for one person and when I went to the reception to get more, they seemed to be out of them and he had to get them from somewhere in the back (I really hope they were from the dryer...). Staff was not as friendly as I'm used to from other hotels/motels. I would not stay there again, as there are tons of other options in the same street.

Review 25：Noisy upstair occupant. Highly recommend avoiding the 1st floor. Also cigarette smoke from the smoking area is trapped in the facility because of its multi-level neighbor and the L shaped design.

Review 35：Not only was The hotel amazing but the owners were great. We stayed here for part of our honeymoon and they had fresh roses in our room awaiting our arrival. We loved the charming effects such as the ceiling and fireplace in our room with all the modern upgrades, it was absolute perfection, we couldn't have asked for a better combination of comfort and charm for enjoying our room.

Review 41：Yikes...Bad Service! No electronic system here, everything done by paper, and the owners aren't big on customer service. When I got to my room, I suddenly was bombarded from phone calls from the front desk, finally I picked up and they asked if I wouldn't mind moving to a smaller room, as they had "forgot" a reservation for a married couple and since I was alone couldn't I move? Since I am naive and nice I said yes, foregoing my nap and moved rooms. It was smaller and not nearly as nice. I asked kindly, "Hey, so since I downgraded rooms and did you a favor (helping you get more visitors in) I should pay a reduced rate than I already paid, right?" And he said, "No." And I said, "Seriously?" and he said, "No." Great. That's what you get for doing favors? Also, no breakfast but some packaged pastries and Tang. And dang, a lot of money for one night! Overall, they might forget your reservation, charge you more than quoted, and move you around.

Review 43：The elephants above us were up and showered at 2am. Then were up again before 5:30am. Heard every step and movement!! If you stay at this place, ask for an upstairs room. Very plain room, slightly updated.

Review 48：Some appliances did not work ie the frig in one of the rooms. Air conditioning was not available but it wasn't a really hot day so we managed by leaving the sliding door open. It would be good to have them, however. The Continental breakfast was not good. All that was available was sweet cakes and orange juice. Not enough variety or room for guests to relax and enjoy it. Need a bigger space than the tiny little office for one table and several chairs was all that was available. I saw no one eating the breakfast.

Review 64：We were given a room, unloaded our luggage and then were told we were in the wrong room, and told to move, no effort to help us move our stuff or explaination as to why that room was wrong.. Parking sucks. The lights are in motion detectors, great if we leave the room and leave the lights on, no so good if watching tv or reading, also turns off the ceiling fan, means room gets suffy and hot overnight.

Review 74：My wife is disabled and in a wheelchair and deals with inconvenience at times, because of this, she always travel with waterproof bed pads. Unfortunately, there are times when she may have a rough night & end up crumpling the pad and wetting the sheet. When the lady (the managers wife) came to clean the room my wife explained that the sheets had gotten wet & then proceeded to apologize to her, she left and brought back her husband, the owner/manager? proceeded to chastise her like she was a child & threatened to kick us out if it happened again. She was so humiliated by this man! She apologized profusely to no avail! After that, she found him constantly looking in our window.

Also, floors were dirty, carpet stained, trash not vacuumed, soap minuscule, no shampoo or bath mat, no iron, refrigerator seal falling off, closet door pinched fingers, toilet flush handle leaked, packages of breakfast pastries stored in stacks on table in office and some had slid onto floor. If price had been reasonable I would expect such things; I would expect a lot better for the exorbitant price! A nice place in Laguna Beach is less expensive. Nobody likes to be ripped-off!

First, the place does not have air conditioning and some of the rooms do not have a big front window. Our first floor room had a back sliding door that open to a main street. (not safe at all). The room was filthy, pieces of food was found under the table. The bed and pillows were extremely hard. One of the worst nights of sleep I have ever had.

Review 133：I was traveling with my mother who is a senior citizen. we booked this room on our way from LA to SF to sleep. the reservation system didn't told us they are out of non smoking room! I didn't want to look for another room and ended up accepting the fact. I didn't sleep well since I am not a smoker, I ended up waking up with a big headache.
Review 134：The fireplaces we used to enjoy in the cool air of the Pacific coast, no longer work. I booked the place because we were on a romantic trip and wanted to cuddle before a cozy fire. That won't happen at the Fireside Inn anymore, which is a real shame.
Review 135：Location, location, location. We've stayed here more than once over the last twenty years because of the spacious rooms and fireplaces. Unfortunately they are seriously understaffed. The owners do everything on site as best they can, but they need more help.
Review 136：I think the beds and floor boards need to be less noisy. We try not to stay in a downstairs room as we can hear heavy footed people above getting in and out of bed, walking around above at night. When we stay upstairs we try to walk softly knowing the people below may hear us, especially in the middle of the night.
