Reviews for Sandton Grand Hotel Reylof

Review 1:Very nice hotel. The staff were all lovely. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived but the front desk gave us our keys. As an apology the hotel gave us some chocolates and a free drink each in the bar. The note left with our gifts was so sweet. We felt very fancy the whole time we were there. It was definitely one of the most luxurious places that we've ever stayed. We'd recommend it!

Review 2:We ordered two burgers for room service and the meat was a bit poor quality

Review 3:Staff were lovely and helpful. Hotel was beautiful and grand and was worth the money. Great location

Review 4:Would be good to install a light in the cupboard!

Review 5:Such a pleasure to have our high expectations met! Perfect for a short city break. Great spa and lovely atmosphere in the bar/restaurant area.

Review 6:Swimsuits are not allowed when using the wellness. I felt too embarressed to join this facilities. Howevere using it early in the morning was the best solution.

Review 7:Location is perfect, receptionists were very nice and helpful. All was perfect.

Review 8:Spa pool is pretty but much smaller than it seems on the photos

Review 9:Good bed Nice view of the "gravensteen" Very relaxing spa, nice subtle aromas Super friendly staff Excellent breakfast buffet. We considered it brunch...

Review 10:Asked for 2 separate single beds as we were friends travelling together, but were given 2 singles together as for a couple.

Review 11:Great location, lovely common parts, staff knowledgable and helpful

Review 12:Breakfast is a little bit overpriced we think. And we didn't like the fact that we paid a lot for this room and still had two single matrasses.

Review 13:The hotel was very nice and luxurious. We had a great time and especially the staff was super friendly. Location is perfect. 5 mins walk to the nice centre of Gent

Review 14:The only downside was that when we wanted to have dinner in the hotel restaurant it was fully booked. This I can understand, but when we offered the Maitre D that we'd happily eat some basic food in the bar, this was declined as it would get him in trouble (setting the wrong example to other guests). Not a drama as we had dinner across the street (excellent steakhouse), but imho a faux pas nonetheless.

Review 15:Excellent facilities, location and very friendly staff. An unexpected delight at a very fair price). My new fixed place in Ghent.

Review 16:Very elegant hotel. Room spacious, tastefully decorated, very clean, excellent sound proofing, very comfortable beds with high quality linen. Staff exceptionally helpful and friendly.

Review 17:The room was cold, we told this to the reception but it didn't change. We missed the tea-coffee facility in the room. The breakfast price is so high

Review 18:Very near to the center Very clean rooms The receptionists are quite good

Review 19:There was nothing I could complain of :)

Review 20:I loved the whole atmosphere in the Hotel. Great people at reception. special thanks to Mr. Deimen who helped us with different things.

Review 21:The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is full of character and we were given a complimentary room upgrade for our Wedding Anniversary. The hotel is ideally located in the centre with a nearby public car park at reasonable rates.

Review 22:Due to the total reconstruction of old town very difficult to find hotel by car.

Review 23:Elegant, comfortable hotel,big room,good breakfast, very nice,helpful staff

Review 24:Pool was very small Not allowed to wear swimwear to sauna & Hamman. You had to walk outside to get to the Wellness area

Review 25:Deluxe room was very spacious . Location was 5min walk to many sights Staff were friendly, professional, helpful and very knowledgeable. The hotel had a relaxed atmosphere while still maintaining 4 star quality.

Review 26:Staff is well trained and professional, but could be friendlier. Twin instead of double bed, not too nice for you cuddlers! Beds were not too comfortable. Breakfast is expensive at 21 Euro pp. Better eat your breakfast/brunch in Cafe Labath down the street.

Review 27:Very chic hotel, luxurious feel, great location, excellent restaurant, spacious clean rooms. Standard room was already perfect! Parking, Wi-Fi, good price-quality

Review 28:Great service, stylish decor, brilliant location, excellent facilities. Within a few hours of getting there we decided we wanted to stay an extra night and although they were fully booked they informed me straight away once there was a cancellation. Very pleased to be able to stay longer.

Review 29:There were 2 televisions in the room. One in the Lounge and one in the bedroom. Neither worked. I went to reception. The man said that he knew one of them did not work but did not realise both did not. He said he would send someone up. Someone did come up but just pressed buttons like we did. She said that she would send someone back. We went out for dinner. On our return late at night we found the TV's still had not been repaired. This time the man came with us and tried to fix the television and said he could not do it. He offered us free breakfasts but really we wanted a working Television. He said he would message maintenance. Also, one of the bulbs in the bedroom was out. We came back in the afternoon on the Sunday and asked if the TV was going to be fixed and they said no because it was a Sunday and no one was around to fix it. We wanted breakfast in the room but there was no slip in order for us to complete. It is a pain to constantly have to call down to reception for things. You do not expect it with a hotel like this. There were two beers in the fridge but they were just filled with water! I spoke with the reception again and they said that I could ask for another room but with a 9 week old baby all settled it is not really what I wanted. I think they should have been more pro-active in offering that room first of all when they found out the TV wasnt working and help us move all our stuff.

Review 30:The Decor of the hotel is very good. The restaurant is excellent and the food and drink superb. The room's are very comfortable.

Review 31:Insufficient storage for clothing, (no drawer space). Towels too small and thin.

Review 32:Garden aspect from room. Food. Friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Location with regard to the town centre.

Review 33:Nothing!

Review 34:Staff - friendly and helpful. Room - huge and immaculately clean with a very comfy bed. Restaurant - food was good and not over priced and service was very good.

Review 35:It is a beautiful hotel located in central Ghent. The staff were very helpful, the food in the restaurant was delicious and the treatments at the spa were indulgent - what more is there to like?

Review 36:Group 9 people, the staff would not take the effort to put us on one table for breakfast De luxe room not worth the extra cost Expensive parking

Review 37:Good breakfast Good location to visit the city

Review 38:The only thing missing was a coffee or tea maker in the room.

Review 39:A beautiful hotel. The facilities are superb - great bar, large room, and an excellent bed.

Review 40:Our room was in a secondary, much less nice building

Review 41:Free use of pool and sauna Size of the room Main building has a beautiful, classical decor Location is 5 minutes from historical center

Review 42:This hotel is wonderful. I come here approximately once a year on a business trip. I enjoy the understated, classy interior which is modern and cosy at the same time. And the breakfast is a treat.

Review 43:We loved our room, the executive double, which has a separate lounge and kitchenette, and a walk in wardrobe. Everything seemed very clean and new, and we loved the bright decor too.

Review 44:This hotel was fantastic. All the staff were incredible and as it was my 30th birthday kindly upgraded our room and gave me a welcome gift of champagne. They couldn't do enough for you. The hotel is in a great location with great amenities. I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be going back.

Review 45:value for money is quite out of the blue. Hotel is quite dirty (not the room, more the shared places). Spa is really not up to the standard, I've done a hot stone massage, I even haven't felt the stone on my skin. Pool is super small and there is a bad smell of chlorine.

Review 46:Bed was really comfortable and our room quite big.

Review 47:It was not possible to use the balcony because of the terrible smell of drains (not at street level so must be hotel drain). Reported to hotel but no change.

Review 48:We loved the bathroom and bed.

Review 49:Unfortunately, there was evidence of the previous guest (hairs) on the shower tiles. Each morning, I was awoken by the noisy cleaning staff.

Review 50:This hotel exudes class. Set in a beautiful historical building, once the home of a rich merchant family, it impresses from the moment one enters the foyer. A warm welcome at reception set the tone for our stay and continued that evening when we had a magnificent meal in the trendy surroundings of Loft restaurant. Meticulous presentation was matched by exciting flavours and textures and excellent understated service. We also loved the garden, beautiful salons and atmosphere throughout the hotel.

Review 51:For guests on a short visit, a bar menu would have been a nice option. The food looked amazing, but the full sit down experience, would have taken up too much time.

Review 52:Great location , beautiful hotel and wonderful staff

Review 53:Some explanation beforehand about the parking would have been nice.

Review 54:Lovely ambiance. Nicely decorated hotel, modern and colourful but in style with the period of the main building. Quiet room with a balcony facing the tranquil courtyard. Very nice breakfast with enough glutenfree products. Only a five minutes walk to the Graslei.

Review 55:Everything was perfect with the exception of one snooty waiter.

Review 56:Amazing hotel, beautiful rooms, nice spa facilities free to use, good customer service.

Review 57:Vary poor service at the reception desk. No parking spots available. Very bad especially for visitors travelling from overseas and not willing to spend 3 hours to find a parking spot in the city.

Review 58:Nice Hotel

Review 59:Room was nicely appointed. Loved the deck and stocked minibar. The courtyard was wonderful and the staff were fantastic. Can't wait to return to Ghent.

Review 60:You would expect much better breakfast for that price.

Review 61:It has the atmosphere of a decent hotel. The staff very helpful. The rooms are in a very good condition. We stayed in one of the more expencive rooms and even had a kitchenette - perfect!

Review 62:It appears to be customary in Belgium that when they say check in is at 1500, they mean 1500 even if your room is ready. This was also the case with the other 3 hotels we stayed at during our trip in Belgium. Otherwise a great experience, beautiful country, polite and gracious people and the beer is better than Germany's.

Review 63:The outdoor dining and lounge. Meeting Tony Bennett who was in Gent to perform with Lady Gaga at the Gent Jazz Festival, both were staying at the Sandton Grand.

Review 64:Wellness spa:.. no staff available on the 4 occasions i went in.. (only there for 2 nights), small spa pool but the buttons to start massage jets and against current swim were not working so floated around for about 30 minutes.. shame ..could have been so good. No tea/coffee making facility in rooom, no iron/board

Review 65:We had a "cosy room".. it was a well sized roomed with a small balcony with a table and chairs overlooking garden.. it got early morning sun and was a lovely space. we stayed previously in a higher standard,, larger room but it was in our opinion not as good as it overlooked the front street and was not as pretty. The hotel is well located for a short walk to the centre and restaurants, bars and historic sights

Review 66:Busy at breakfast at times but the staff coped well with this and were very efficient at re-stocking items and clearing tables

Review 67:We had the gegustation menu, which was excellent and great value for money. Breakfast was excellent with a great variety of choice. Quiet, comfortable and spacious rooms. Lots of relaxation space within the hotel. Friendly and professional staff.

Review 68:Wow, what a lovely surprise to check into this hotel, and find this lovely gem in the heart of Ghent. Our room and bathroom were beautiful, spacious, clean and modern. Loved every moment. The hotel is walking distance from Ghent central, and very close to the tram stop. The tram stop is just around the corner, and takes you to the main train station in about 15 minutes. Very convenient. Will certainly stay here again, and recommend this hotel.

Review 69:Due to the Music festival our room was located in the back of the hotel the view was not that great. Equally room service breakfast was a bit average.

Review 70:Great Location close to the old part of town 5 minute walk .

Review 71:Very curt staff at check in You had to ask for the spa to be turned on in order to use it

Review 72:Good location close to the old town Also good parking nearby

Review 73:Modern rooms obviously built at back of a very old frontage which is what I thought the hotel would be. Not a real problem but was hoping for some elegance !

Review 74:Ideally located for Ghent centre

Centraal gelegen.

Review 77:The room we had was a bit tight on space. That was room 348. My older sister was put in to room 284 which was much bigger than ours and would have been more suited to two people rather than someone on their own. Just something to not when you are allocating rooms in the future.

Review 78:You have a good team of people always happy to assist. The location is excellent and overall the hotel was one that we would return to and recommend.

Review 79:Aircon was difficult to use - if you have to provide written instructions to each guest then the system is too complicated. Otherwise everything excellent

Review 80:Excellent standard of hotel and staff. Good location an easy walk from the busy centre of town. Very good value for money, especially compared to hotel rooms in Brussels.

Review 81:The bedrooms are tiny The self service breakfast was not good, undercooked, soggy eggs and sausage. Staff did not take time to explain the self service breakfast layout. There was only one pair of slippers, one bottle of water in the room for two of us. When we requested more water we were told to 'drink from the tap in the bathroom'

Review 82:The décor was beautiful The bed was comfortable The evening meal in the set menu was great

Review 83:Bizarre/ heavy room colour – room 349- very small window, colour of the walls heavy dark red. You cannot have food between 14:00 and 19:00 in the hotel restaurant, only snacks, kitchen is closed. Massage room at spa, the floor is so old you cannot relax because it makes a lot of sounds when masseuse is moving around you.

Review 84:Perfect location Friendly personnel Great Spa facilities

Review 85:Breakfast was a bit expensive but most hotel breakfasts seem to be. Quality was great.

Review 86:Great room for a good price and quick 5 minute walk to the central historic area of Ghent. We found Ghent to be our favorite city in Belgium.

Review 87:Be careful not to leave your car out the front for too long before moving to the carpark as they do ticket regularly (public carpark around the corner is much cheaper than the hotel carpark!)

Review 88:Rooms are huge, staff incredibly friendly and efficient, breakfast was extensive and beautifully cooked / prepared and location is great, just 5 mins walk from the centre on a quiet street.

Review 89:Slow wifi connection in the room. Staff was no more than OK making no effort in finding a place for dinner. They didnt even offer the hotel's restaurant, and we attended it in the evening- it was already fully booked. Breakfest seemed average for 21€ pp so we gave it up.

Review 90:A stunning hotel, only 3 min. walk to the historic center of Gent. The hotel interiors of the hotel are amazing- patio, bar, lounge. Rooms are spacious, well decorated and very comfotable. The bed was top class. Large shower. Value for money!

Review 91:The hotel was absolutely fabulous and I am genuinely confused about some mixed reviews I read before staying there, as i really couldn't fault it. The staff were very friendly and couldn't have tried harder to help us out with any questions or requests we had. The room we stayed in was massive with a second level with its own double bed. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed I have sleapt in and the room was perfectly clean and beautifully furnished. With regards to location, the Sandton is very central (less than 5 minutes walk from the centre of Ghent) but we had no issues with noise at all. I agree that the hotel is not a cheap choice, but it delivers exactly what you pay for and I couldn't rank it higher! It was a brilliant experience from start to finish and I would definitely go back.

Review 92:We stayed on the gastronomic stay but they undersold the food, described simply as carpaccio of beef, chicken followed by rhubarb ice cream which as you can imagine provoked a few questions, in essence this is attesting menu and my wife and i were happy to correct them as the food was first class.

Review 93:Great location in the hart of the city making it really easy to get around. The breakfast is a real highlight, something to linger over

Review 94:It was difficult to find this hotel, we had to be rescued! One way system and road closures were a problem.

Review 95:Room excellent, lovely to have a balcony and the sun shone!

Review 96:Even after washing, there were still stains on the sheet. Bigger swimming pool would be nice. The striped wall paper in the hotel room; it was a bit too much. One wall would have been enough.

Review 97:Location, luxurious environment, garden, swimming pool, big bathroom with great shower, good bed, facilities.

Review 98:- Staff, both professional and friendly - Bedroom- great size and comfortable bed - Bathroom- large and shower great - Garden Area- relaxing for breakfast or a drink after site seeing -Bar Area- nicely decorated & range of drinks on offer - Overall a great experience

Review 99:The hotel is right off a main square and an excellent starting point. Sense of elegance right from first entry, and rooms are just as elegant - high ceiling, large crystal chandelier, thick decorative draperies, soft linens. Hotel also has a nice comfortable bar and sitting room.

Review 100:The only negative experience was the wellness employee who was very unfriendly with us

Review 101:Location, styling, silence, smooth check in and check out, friendly and professional employees (except wellness area) Tips: Park at Parking Ramen or Parking Sint-Michiels, these are half the price than the hotel parking prices and about 100 m distance. Breakfast looked really good but for 21 euro per person is too high - you should rather go to Cafe Labanth or Broodhuis for a pocket friendlier option

Review 102:All was great.

Review 103:Center location, 3 min walking from port and city center. Big and clean bedroom, comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. Hotel staff was attentive to detail and helpful.

Review 104:The room was cosy and that was ok but the furniture just didnt fit the room and we kept falling overchairs or the bed. The lighting was also not great. The bathroom was nice but the smell of the drains when we arrived was not pleasant. The bedding and matress cover were very hot and badly fitting.

Review 105:Great location. Great breakfast. Nice bar and terrace.

Review 106:At 130 euros a night one would expect the bar snacks and soft drinks to be complimentary. All we got was a little complimentary bottle of water.

Review 107:Not a lot.

Review 108:On arrival 4 ish no evening meal available tables were fully booked. No parking space available had to walk 80 yards to public parking and was soaked. Lastly, I particularly booked a hotel with an indoor pool to swim but it was tiny too small to swim in

Review 109:Room was excellent and the bed most comfortable I have ever slept on

Review 110:Old guy who pushed luggage trolley was very rude and inappropriate on several occasions. When the electrics failed to work in my room and I asked politely for help, he shouted, "no, not now!" Then shouted again and lied to me by informing me that I could get free tea and coffee in the hotel.

Review 111:Location was good being within walking distance to main attractions. The hotel was beautifully presented and most of the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 112:In spite of Google maps, it was quite tricky to find the hotel by car. Instead of Hoogstraat, where it tried to take us through the pedestrian area and we drove in circles, just put Brugsepoortstraat in your navigation and the continue onto Hoogstraat...You might also consider to leave your car straight away in the municipality parking of st. Michels, if you don't have too much luggage.

Review 113:This hotel was not the cheapest we could find as we stayed in Ghent for my husbands participation in bike event ronde van Vlaanderen. BUT it was worth every cent! The staff was very friendly and professional and arranged a parking lot in the hotel parking, which helped a lot when preparing the bike for the morning. The Race finished at 12 and unfortunately we had to check-out in the morning, because the hotel was fully booked, BUT this hotel made it possible for us to use the wellness after check-out, so my husband could shower, sauna and relax some time after biking-this made our day, thank you:-)

Review 114:No tea and coffee in the room - Given the chance I would have staid in another hotel as I was there 4 nights and really would have appreciated a kettle!

Review 115:Food was delicious and service was very good

Review 116:Coffee machine with long queues at breakfast instead of real cofee being served at table.

Review 117:Very friendly and helpful staff at the reception. Comfortable and spacious room looking on the inner court yard (might, however, be noisy in summer). Nice "classical" style of hotel.

Review 118:Prices where quite random, had a great lunch for a reasonable price but then €21 for breakfast. That being said my overall experience was great.

Review 119:The location and facilities

Review 120:too many guests for the capacity of the hotel - the rooms are fine and spacious but the other facilities do not take into account the number of guests e.g. very small fitness room and spa . At breakfast no seats in the dining room we had to sit in bar with a plate on our knees. No parking lot available (although we had a reservation for 3 rooms)

Review 121:We went to use the wellness centre on our last day - at 9.30am on a monday morning it was closed to do some work. If work needs to be carried out it should be around 12 as this is check out time and most likely the least busy time

Review 122:The location was excellent and the staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 123:The swimming pool and wellness area are great, we had not such good weather, if it is sunny, it must really be brilliant to sit in the garden. The room was very big and comfortable and quiet. You get the feeling you are on a wellness holiday in the country side when you are inside the hotel, but when you leave the hotel, you are in the city centre of Ghent: this hotel really combines the best of two worlds!

Review 124:The staff were extremely accommodating upon arrival, allowing early check-in (and later, late check-out) and also providing helpful advice for visiting Ghent. Our deluxe room was very large and beautifully decorated with a nice shower rom (sadly no bath) and large, comfortable bed. Although a little cold (in January) which was fairly well resolved with a heater provided by the hotel upon request. Location was convenient for the medieval town centre, whilst the spa facilities were very relaxing in the evening.

Review 125:The hall walkway to our rooms was blocked due to sanding/polishing the floor which meant we had to walk through the main dining area sometimes to/from the Spa in our bath robes.Unfortunate for the poor people trying to enjoy their meals,

Review 126:The Hotel, staff, facilities and location.

Review 127:No coffee/tea making things in the room.

Review 128:EVERYTHING! Don't bother with the 21 euro parking, there is a much cheaper car park around the corner.

Review 129:The gym was very very small. There is no iron in the room, you have to ask for it. Some basic room amenities were missing: like hair conditioner and body loofa. Overall, the room is small (but still bigger than most hotels in Paris).

Review 130:Staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help guests.

Review 131:Pool was out of action for two days out of four for maintenance.

Review 132:Hotel is walking distance (or bus) from the city centre, is very well appointed. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Good choice at breakfast. Pool, sauna and steam room very welcome on a cold day, clean with good showers.

Review 133:The breakfast was severely overpriced at EUR54 for two people for one day (includes tourist tax)

Review 134:The spa staff were fantastic and the front of house very keen to please.

The Fine Print

Please note that the restaurant is fully booked on both Christmas Eve 24/12 and New Years Eve 31/12.
