Reviews for Majestic Hotel
Review 1:Everything was great.
Review 2:Another excellent stay. The staff are fantastic there and Mona especially goes above and beyond the call of duty each time we stay there.
Review 3:The rooms are... sad. They are very clean and small, which is fine. But the decor needs help. It looks old and dated and a bit of refreshing of the rooms would help. The floors squeaked loudly, the mattress sagged, and the radiators bang during the night. Our room was HOT but someone at breakfast complained their room was freezing. Old buildings do have their own personalities, but next time I'll think I will pass on the Majestic.
Review 4:The staff was lovely, very friendly and accommodating. The mini bar prices are really cheap and breakfast is included in the price. The location was perfect and very charming.
Review 5:Parking is easy and convenient. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is fresh coffee, tea, etc. in the lobby which is more like a comfortable drawing room. The rooms are large, comfortable, and clean. We travel to Chicago at least 3 times a year, and always stay at the Majestic. The neighborhood is very safe, and we I feel comfortable, even in the evening, to walk to nearby restaurants and attractions. Spending time at the Majestic feels like coming home to welcoming arms.
Review 6:Frat party for two nights meant I had to call front desk at 3am to try and get them to stop the noise! The staff reacted immediately but given it was the second night should have thrown them all out.
Review 7:It's a basic hotel in need of some love in the bathrooms.
Review 8:The room temperature in my room was a bit too cold even turning on heat. The breakfast was a bit sparse for someone who likes continental breakfasts (no butter, and not a great choice of jams). I also thought the decoration of the rooms was a bit grim.
Review 9:Way I was welcomed by Mona, the hotel person in charge that night. My card did not work, but we found a solution: I could call home and get another card to work, all thanks to Mona who was extremely cooperative. I also liked the fact that one could have tea or coffee every day, and I liked the unusual setting of the lounge where people have breakfast around big tables a bit as in an old auberge.
Review 10:Beautiful older building with interesting history. Not downtown, but mere blocks from the lake in one direction and Addison St station (red line train with direct route to downtown) in the other. Very helpful and accommodating staff.
Review 11:Great location only minutes walking in a safe area to lovely restaurants etc. Very friendly service and comfortable. An older property so some creeks but has personality, is excellent value and very clean. Offers everything you need and very friendly and helpful staff. Will stay there again.
Review 12:Total absence of acoustic and thermal isolation (windows are barely keeping streetnoise and cold outside)
Review 13:Friendly and very helpful staff, convenient (public bus) access to downtown Chicago)
Review 14:The location was fabulous! Easy access to bus stop, train, and walking distance to Boys Town. Not only was the price a good value but the parking was cheaper than most and it included breakfast. Over all it was a great value!
Review 15:Breakfast was adequate but a bit boring
Review 16:The staff was very friendly, even though we arrived at 2 AM and checked out at 4 AM. Our room was small but very comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The best part was the location, easy walk to the lake, Wrigley Field, and excellent locally owned neighborhood restaurants, many with outdoor seating.
Review 17:The hotel needs a refurbishment. Particularly the bathrooms need renewal. The whole place has a bit of a shabby chic feel to it, which may be cultivated but doesn't offer the comfort it might.
Review 18:Helpful staff. Nice neighborhood and relatively easy to get into town. Although I was never there in the afternoons, they do serve cookies.
Review 19:Our room. The room was way to small. It was next door to the elevator, which we heard all night and early in the morning dinging. No space to walk. We couldn't get our luggage in the walk space. The tv on the wall wasn't facing the bed (it faced the desk) and the mounting rack didn't turn, so we couldn't watch tv. Lucky I brought my laptop so we watch netflix on it. I would never recommend this hotel to any of my military friends or family.
Review 20:Nothing!
Review 21:I had no view from the window (escape ladder and a wall... so the romm is a bit dark and claustrophobic...
Review 22:Nicely hold hotel in a pleasant part of Chicago, close to the Cubs stadium and to a golf course along the lake.
Review 23:The location was great there was a bus stop around the corner and it took 10 minutes to the Loop. Easy access to the lake, great jogging there. Peaceful area. Great staff, especially Dan and Mona.
Review 24:The breakfast is okay. Coffee, tea, cereals, bagels, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, etc. Was good enough to get going with but a couple healthier options would have been great. Oatmeal and fresh fruit would have been perfect.
Review 25:Went to Chicago to run the marathon. Easy ten minute walk to subway, takes you downtown. Close to Wrigley, food, grocery, bars. Room was nice, cleaned every day. Didn't have to ask for anything.
Review 26:Flickering neon light in the bathroom - could not see a thing in there, could not air the room - the steam from the shower flooded the room and it was impossible to get it out. Old wood floors are noisy and terrible for light sleepers as you can hear sounds as people walk on the hallway or in the room above. Parking not available in hotel recommended parking lot due to car size - I had to search for parking two blocks away.
Review 27:Pretty good location in Chicago and a good priced hotel.
Review 28:The breakfast contained only things that can be stored for a long time. No fresh bread, cheese. Only things in small containers. Guess its more approved in the States?
Review 29:It had style. Old fashion with style. Its location is great. When you walk out of the hotelin the morning you could either turn left to sit down by the Michigan lake or turn right up on the Broadway street with its great scene with reastaurants, shops. I met some local Chicago people that I have chosen the absolute best areas of Chicago to hang around in.
Review 30:Once I arrive into my room the carpet was dirty burn marks and several different places and noticeable, to the point I slept with my socks on so when I get out of the bed in the morning my bare feet not touch the carpet. The bathroom head mildew around the tub , and the towels was so rough that when I dried off I asked you scratch my body
Review 31:Location was excellent the staff was great
Review 32:Nothing, everything was awesome
Review 33:Location to Lincoln Park and Wrigley was awesome. Snack selection was great. Staff was very friendly and easy to work with. The area was safe, quiet and convenient to travel. Parking along street can be had at no cost!
Review 34:Noise level in our room.
Review 35:Staff was incredibly helpful. On a beautiful tree lined street, the location was great for our visit, ner the waterfront and Wrigley, though far from downtown. Definitely coming back if back in town.
Review 36:We traveled with a person on a wheelchair. The hotel was difficult to maneuver in and out of as there were no ramps, only stairs.
Review 37:The location and neighborhood was fantastic! The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was charming and very comfortable.
Review 38:Our room was small do to the elevator area was taken out of our room square footage. Elevator small and slow.
Review 39:Family environment in a residential area. Close to Wigley Field and many restaurants.
Review 40:Elevator was small and scarey. Coffee too weak for my personal taste. Everyone else liked it.
Review 41:Mona, John and Dan were so accommodating. Went over and above to make our stay pleasurable. They treated us better than if we stayed with family. Feel like we knew them forever.
Review 42:- Valet Parking, if you have a lot of stuff inside the car like me, you wouldnt want them to park your car, because according to them, they will move your car frequently if they have to move a car out before you. You will have to leave the car key with them, and I dont feel comfortable about it. - Their front desk staff attitude. When I was dealing with one of the staff, and he actually throw my card of the table when it got declined. This is not acceptable behaviour.
Review 43:- Nice and neat tiny room. - The place is clean and organized - Decent Breakfast
Review 44:Bathroom needs towel bars or hooks and the parlor area of the suite needs a more comfortable chair.
Review 45:The friendly and professional attitude of all the staff.
Review 46:Nothing, a great boutique hotel.
Review 47:Excellent and friendly staff, attentive to all your needs. The location to Wrigleyville is very good, only five block walk. This is our second stay and it was as good as our first!
Review 48:My ac wouldn't get cold. I had them look at it. Still not cold. Plus it seemed to shut off when not in room and then you come back and the room was hot. It never cooled down. It almost felt like the heat was on. That unit needs to be replaced.
Review 49:Location. Staff. Quaintness.
Review 50:Just the uneven floor on the ground floor, stumbled on it my first time through and almost caught me a second time.
Review 51:The location and getting down town to city center was very convenient. Definitely would recommend to family/friends.
Review 52:I traveled with a 6 month old and we were right by the elevator and it was loud. Next time I'll just request to be away from the elevators!
Review 53:I loved how old it was, and how reasonable the price was! I was visiting a friend that lived next to wrigley and the location was perfect! The staff was so nice, and everyone was so sweet and helpful. I'll definitely be back.
Review 54:The creaking of the floor above my room was insane. It was so loud that I could not sleep. When I mentioned it to the hotel, they said "it's an old building, what do you expect" - umm, fix it!
Review 55:Having to leave!!
Review 56:From Mona and John to "Dan the breakfast man" my stay at the Majestic was wonderful. We had medical issues at hand and felt like they knew, even though I know they didn't. That tells me that everyone is treated like royalty!
Review 57:Did not have any bad experiences, but would like to see fruit juices added to the mini bar.
Review 58:Mona was great when helping on the first night with the room internet.
Review 59:Valet - is a park and walk back to hotel a block away. Elevator - 2 person and very slow Hotel - smelled like retirement home floors creaked and had issue getting keys to work door. Staff - seemed hard pressed to get us checked in even though there was no one else checking in behind us.
Review 60:Location to Wrigley and bars close by.
Review 61:My bill was put on my friend's credit card in error. She had a separate room. The reservation was under my name and my card #.
Review 62:Location; Curb appeal; parking garage; cleanliness.
Review 63:Great residential neighborhood: quiet street just off the lake, near restaurants, El, and Wrigley Field. We had a suite with a separate bedroom and living area. We were able to park on the street.
Review 64:The breakfast was not so great but it was fine for the price point.
Review 65:The hotel was such a cute older boutique type hotel. Beautiful room in a gorgeous neighborhood, overall it was a great stay!
Review 66:I was bitten by some kind of bugs while I slept. After talking with management at the other hotels we stayed at while on vacation, they said I should have been totally refunded.
Review 67:Location was great! Loved that the bus stop was close and Wrigley Field was close by so we could walk to the game.
Review 68:Shabby, dark and faded. with a lame breakfast of pre-packaged goods. Over priced for this standard.
Review 69:The neighbourhood is friendly, clean and well served by transport, particualrly buses.
Review 70:The staff was genuine, friendly and extremely helpful. Bed was very comfortable. Room was clean (I clean for a living so that's saying something).
Review 71:Tiny elevator.
Review 72:Great bed. Reasonable cost. The snack tray was inexpensive. Walking distance to Wrigely. Dan taking care of breakfast and helping us navigate to downtown was a reason to go back. Mona at the front desk was nice. Quiet street.
Review 73:beautiful hotel within walking distance of everything! Staff was very nice and helpful. Prices of the mini bar and snacks were unbelievably cheap! I think we pretty much emptied out the mini bar and spent less than $40
Review 74:Apart from being tucked away in a tree lined avenue, it reminded me of a large quaint Olde English guest house. In that sense, it was 'home-from-home'
Review 75:The Duty Manager named MONA is not only very friendly but also very helpful. The 'inclusive breakfast' that the Majestic provides is a welcome start to the day.
Review 76:Staff was very friendly and attentive. Room was spacious and very clean. Snacks and wet bar were kept well stocked and very reasonably priced, with a good assortment.
Review 77:I would have liked soy or coconut milk available at breakfast, and I was hoping the decor would be more old fashioned ala hotels in Cripple Creek, CO.
Review 78:The staff was super friendly, anything my friend and I needed they took care of and provided pleasant conversation. The neighborhood the hotel is located in gave us access within walking distance to a score of legendary restaurants and shops. The hotel itself was quiet and cozy. There where lots of cushy chairs, perfect for settling in with a book. The coffee/tea bar was open 24 hours, and the cookies were fresh baked and yummy.
Review 79:Nothing, I knew what to expect. Remember, older hotel, boutique. Not a 5 star. Not in center of city.
Review 80:Staff phenomenal! Mona and Dan were gems! So helpful and knowledgeable. Hotel is older so if you require up to date amenities this may not be your place. But it is clean, 5 blocks from Wrigley and beautiful neighborhood. Bus 10 min. from Mag. Mile! Loved it.
Review 81:Our only complaint is the window a/c, especially in the bedroom. It blew over us all night and was noisy. I didn't sleep well at all. Central air would be a great investment.
Review 82:The hotel is lovely and immaculate. The staff was friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Jordan, he was terrific. The hotel and the area was very quiet and within walking distance to many spots.
Review 83:street side room - very loud street noises - rain on air conditioner unit was very annoying. Room was large but sparse and carpet throughout hotel seemed very dirty. Could use some updating. Staff was nice.
Review 84:location and overall, hotel was quaint.
Review 85:Nothing comes to mind.
Review 86:The staff went out of its way from arrival to departure to ensure we were treated like royalty...from check-in to all the extra amenities, the Majestic did it all. That's why it will always be our hotel of choice when watching a Cubs game at Wrigley!
Review 87:Room is not big, (but it is not so little) Building is very old. Wall is tinny, isolation is not enough, so pay attention to be quiet and do not listen to the other rooms.
Review 88:cost effective hotel, very good good price, clean, high speed wifi, every thing is ok.
Review 89:The rooms were very clean, and we had everything we needed, but the hotel room was very small.
Review 90:Very nice intimate atmosphere with a very nice lobby with a fire place.
Review 91:I can't say enough good things about this hotel. Great ambiance, clean and comfortable, wonderful staff, decent free breakfast, and a great location. Mona at the desk was especially helpful with tips about parking and a recommendation about a nearby local restaurant. Dan in the breakfast room was polite, pleasant and gave helpful advice with directions and advice about things to see.
Review 92:The breakfast was lacking and the location is about 15-20mins from the downtown area - although we did enjoy a walk in the evening here!
Review 93:The smiling staff no matter what time of day/night you are greeted with a smile and a "Can I help you" "How is your room/stay" My son was in from the Marines for a few days and we escaped to Chicago - what a great time we had.
Review 94:Not a bad experience at all. It's just not close to major business centers. It also didn't have a gym.
Review 95:Comfort of the room, breakfast, staff and neighborhood were all amazing! Would definitely recommend it.
Review 96:Room too hot even with radiator off. Some noise from outside--flapping metallic intermittent sound. Also could hear elevator ding every time it arrived. Don't recommend room 315 for these reasons.
Review 97:Staff was super nice, hotel in excellent condition, comfortable bed, nice linens, very clean.
Review 98:Parking not very convenient and expensive... should be included in the price of the room.
Review 99:Very clean, very friendly staff, free breakfast, honor bar...
Review 100:I loved the lobby/sitting area with fire place and complimentary coffee and tea. (And light breakfast in the a.m.) rooms are small but sufficient if you don't plan to spend a lot of time in your room. Everything was clean.
Review 101:What's not to like. It was perfect
Review 102:I needed a last minute hotel room in Chicago for myself and college age daughter. I used my phone to make the reservation. I called to see if the reservation went through and was told the online reservations take a few minutes to come through. About 10 minutes later my phone rang. It was the wonderful man at the front desk letting me know the reservation was there. I did not even ask him to do that. The service continued at the high level for the rest of our stay. The room was clean, spacious and charming. The bathroom was excellent. There was hot tea and coffee in the lobby which was greatly appreciated since we wee traveling late. It is the kind of place you feel comfortable going down in your hotel robes and jammies to get a cup of tea. Perfect.
Review 103:Everything was awesome, only drawback was that it was so cold during my stay that I could hear the heating elements of the hotel and they got pretty loud while trying to sleep.
Review 104:The parking is like 3-4 blocks away. Not super convenient. But cheaper parking than any place downtown!
Review 105:The fact that its on a quiet street close to everything Wrigleyville has to offer!
Review 106:Breakfast was average and ended a little early.
Review 107:Quaint little hotel with a lot of character and a friendly staff. Also, the parking was very very reasonable. Would go there again.
Review 108:The rooms are comfy and the staff make you feel at home. Dan, who oversees breakfast in the lounge, is a gem. He asks how you are, if you need anything, provides information. . . The Majestic offers a small town feel in a big city.
Review 109:Due to the location of our room (#202), outside noise from deliveries and moving trucks was very loud (only happened a few times. Otherwise, a very quiet neighborhood.) Also, the radiant heat was not enough to keep the room warm (thankfully, the lovely plush blanket on the bed helped with that!) The window in the shower was broken and the painter working in the hotel left an unsightly mess in the lobby (this might not bother most people, but my husband owns a painting company. He was appalled by the lack of cleanliness and unprofessional workmanship. Not really the hotel's fault - just a suggestion to find a better company in the future.)
Review 110:I loved the King Suite! Obviously, the building is a refurbished apartment building - it was more like renting a "home away from home" than a hotel room! At $130 + $22 parking per night, it's a great deal!!! The thick walls blocked all interior noise. Comfortable and affordable! Easy access to taxis and a short walk to neighborhood stores & restaurants. A wonderful place - we'll be back! :)
Review 111:Nothing really. The room temperature seemed to fluctuate a bit but that was more than bearable.
Review 112:This was our first time in Chicago having travelled from Toronto, Canada. The property is set in an established residential neighbourhood not too far from Wrigley Field. Some very nice restauramts in the surrounding neighbourhood and easy access to buses and a short ten-minute walk to the Red Line "El" station. The property itself is older but well maintained with lots of character. The best part of it is the staff. They are very gracious and helpful and kudos go out to Mona and Dan especially for their exemplary service and attention to guest needs with recommendations and general hospitality.
Review 113:Hotel staff treated guests like annoying pests. Staff goes around doingroom checks for smoking like you are in a dorm in college. They chargeyou $250 for "smoking" even though we weren't, it wasbecause we were partying. If your going to the majestic you better beover 40 yrs old and bring a book to read. Because if you bring beerexpect an extra $250 charge on your bill. My bill came to $700 for 3nights!!!!!! The majestic has been by far the worst hotel i've everstayed in my life.
Review 114:Location was only thing I liked about the majestic
Review 115:Parking was a 3 minute walk outside and through another building, for additional $22.. Breakfast was limited in choice.. needs pancake or waffle iron
Review 116:the staff were friendly and efficient, the room was nice and the bed was comfy.
Review 117:We were tempted with the treats in the room. We thought they were complimentary but were not. Had to call and get a pass for wifi because it was not listed anywhere.
Review 118:Very clean and quaint! Very close to the venue we were seeing a concert. Loved being near the lake!
Review 119:Parking was the only thing we didn't like but otherwise everything else was great
Review 120:We loved the room. The staff was great and we enjoyed the place. It was a nice and relaxing stay.
Review 121:During our last visit in December, we were a little disappointed at the updated decor in the drawing room. It is still a very lovely room, but we very much liked the "Downtown Abbey" feel of the previous decor.
Review 122:We love the location of the Majestic. The location is convenient to all the things we like to do while in Chicago, and the parking garage is great. The feel of the hotel is very much like an old european hotel, and we've made met some very nice people during breakfast in the drawing room/lobby.
Review 123:They offered breakfast, but only cold items unless you microwave yourbreakfast sandwich.
Review 124:The hotel is an older building, but they have taken care of it. My maincomplaint was we happened to check on line to show a friend where wewere staying and noticed the price was considerably less than what webooked it for. I pointed this out to the staff and was told since Ibooked thru an outside source, there was nothing they could do. There isalways something they can do. This has happened to us twice at thishotel. Once, shame on them....twice, shame on me!
Review 125:The staff were very helpful with giving directions . Location very quiet and calm. The lobby with the breakfast was very cosy . Absolutely liked the hotel
Review 126:The matress really needed to be replaced, to soft, no support.
Review 127:Mona, at the front fest was fabulous...... Alway cheerful, and helpful. Even bought my husband doughnuts one morning! Actually all the staff at the hotel make your stay extra special, hard to find a hotel with such friendly and professional people! Location is excellent, vey clean, and quite. Would stay here again.
Review 128:Water pressure only average. Can't control heating because of the old radiatiors. It's part of the buildings charm but it is what it is.
Review 129:Close to everything in a quiet residential area. Unique period architecture Excellent service
Review 130:Mattress was so worn out -- lumpy, no support, uneven, soft. I had to lie crossways to not sleep in the ditch.
Review 131:Fireplace and lounge was charming. Good bathroom, room a little on the small side, but that might be the case in a building of that type/era. Good staff/customer service.
Review 132:Pillows were very uncomfortable for us. A/C noisy.
Review 133:Everything but pillows and A/C. We upgraded to 'Sun room' and it is a wonderful room! Lots of natural light, lots of space, even in bathroom! Huge comfy bed (just replace pillows ;)) Very friendly staff!
Review 134:My room is 109, which is super small, compared with other rooms of the same type. 109 is next to the elevator, so I guess the elevator should originally be part of 109.
Review 135:Love the lobby area. It's cozy. And they have coffee/tea running all the time. Parking: you can park outside the hotel along the street, as long as you can find a spot - so no need to spend 22 dollars per night for parking.
