Reviews for The Silversmith Hotel

Review 1:Everything was fantastic. The valet staff was superior. Also the beds were very comfortable. Overall a great experience. I would stay here again and highly recommend this hotel.

Review 2:This sounds stupid but... more supplies for the coffee maker w/out asking would have nice - but given the overall awesomeness of the place it seems a bit superficial The restaurant staff - wait staff to chef - what gems! The chef made us a special vegetarian meal. The breakfasts were so good. I would go back for the french toast alone!

Review 3:The hotel is near Millennium Park and the Art Institute of Chicago, etc... Shopping, food, attractions and transportation are very convenient. The Silversmith is a beautiful property. The Jewelry District theme is evident throughout. So much attention to design details! From the texture of the wall coverings to the artwork, the place shines both literally and figuratively.

Review 4:The location is fabulous for a downtown excursion, but don't expect a fantastic view from the room.

Review 5:The staff greeted us all with smiles and were happy to make us feel like appreciated guests

Review 6:We are 4 people in the room but room service only give 3 towels..

Review 7:Location is excellence.., it is only 5 minutes walk to Millenium Park. Wifi available in the room..

Review 8:A rogue hair or two in the bathroom & a mini stain on the robe + comforter bumped down the cleanliness score.

Review 9:The hotel was in a great central location for exploring the city. The room was more spacious than I expected which provided for plenty of room to unwind.

Review 10:Excellent location: lots of good dining options within even less than a few minutes of walking; 5-minute walk to the millennium park; Macy's, Target and CVS locating in the same block.

Review 11:immediately entering from the street, there is an unPleasant order -- probably due to road construction in the neighborhood. Hopefully once the construction is finished the odor will no longer be noticeable.

Review 12:We stayed overnight on a holiday. The staff was very cordial. The hotel is very pretty and comfortable. We did not try any food. And we did not use the gym.

Review 13:Parking is a bit expensive, but that's probably to be expected for the location in downtown Chicago.

Review 14:The location was perfect for exploring the German Holiday Market and the ice skating in Millennium Park; it was a pleasant walk down Michigan Ave for the mag mile. The room was lovely and incredibly spacious!

Review 15:The room service breakfast was terrible! For two ham and cheese wraps, two toasted bagels, and two orange juices it cost $48. They forgot the orange juices and sent us stale bagels that were not toasted. When I told them the bagels were stale and not toasted the room service girl stated "they are toasted I did it myself." Needless to say they sent two more nontoasted bagels and charged us another $10 for them.

Review 16:The location and the room were excellent

Review 17:Beautiful hotel, have stayed there several times before and after the amazing renovation. Love the location near theaters and shopping. Small dinner menu but food was wonderful, made scratch by chef when ordered.

Review 18:they didn't change sheets....and when i call them in the night they told me that they do not have any staff so i will have to change it myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so i moved to hyatt next day. thats a much better choice.

Review 19:location was fine

Review 20:Shower drain was broken had to take the drain plug out to even use the shower and the shower handle you had to really tug on to get it to turn. The road construction. No continential breakfast. The View from our room was another part of the hotel.

Review 21:Very Friendly staff! Location was great within walking distance of MOST of the stuff we wanted to do.

Review 22:I love, love, love this hotel! The location can't be beat - a block from Millenium Park and the Art Institute. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly - everyone we interacted with were incredible. I stayed there twice in one month (once with my young daughter for her birthday) because I liked the experience so much.

Review 23:The hotel has a very modern look, the room was much bigger than I expected, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Location was great too, close to the subway and walking distance to most tourist attractions.

Review 24:Actually, can't think of anything I didn't like about this hotel.

Review 25:Staff was outstandingly polite and helpful. Design was nice. Location is excellent with plenty of theaters close by, as well as restaurants and parks. Room was spacious and clean.

Review 26:It was somehow expensive for a non-breakfast stay.

Review 27:The room we stayed was large, and the bed was comfortable. Hotel has a nice location very close to blue line station for O'Hare airport.

Review 28:We had a room across from the elevators (directly across) so I was worried about the noise level, but we didn't have too much of an issue with it

Review 29:Staff is attentive and friendly. Workout room view is amazing! Location is prime. Hotel with character.

Review 30:Beverly at the front desk was fabulous - funny, professional, helpful. Antoine held our luggage and got us cabs, even though he had to go to Michigan Ave to do it.

Review 31:No pool / hot tub or spa services. The lobby bar isn't open during the day hours. Lots of road construction in front of the hotel, so it was sometimes difficult for the uber to picks us up out front

Review 32:I was in Chicago for annual work conference (NASS) and had trouble finding (last minute booking) hotel vacancy in the downtown area that was 'nice' yet 'affordable' . I was lucky to find this hotel that fit everything I was looking for! The bed was super comfy! Staff was excellent! The decor was modern / contemporary / upscale feel. Cool circular lobby bar with a decent tapas menu. It was located one block from the train entrance which was very convenient going to and from midway airport. And walking distance to all the trendy spots on Michigan Ave. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at silversmith hotel. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in a contemporary style hotel that's not wanting to spend an arm & an a leg :)

Review 33:They did not set my wakeup call as requested. Fortunately, I set my iPhone's alarm up as a backup.

Review 34:Very friendly staff. Room was clean and had everything I needed.

Review 35:Local road improvements and detours made the place difficult to find. Certainly not the hotel's fault, though

Review 36:Beautiful boutique hotel, very stylish. Our bartender, Adam, gave us a great recommendation off property for dinner. All of the staff was very helpful and nice.

Review 37:The one drawback was the slight mildew smell in the room.

Review 38:We loved the location! Walk to everywhere from here! The staff was incredible! Especially the young woman, with awesome braids, who checked us and gave us the info about Journeys shoe store. I've forgotten her name. She also told us about Wildberry restaurant which was a fantastic recommendation for breakfast. The hotel is gorgeous and the rooms are a good size and very nicely decorated. Nice gym looking out over the El.

Review 39:The location in fabulous the staff are friendly. We needed things here and there throughout the stay and they were always up to the room writhing 5 minutes. One day we needed coffee and I got off the phone and thirty seconds later someone was at the door it was incredible.

Review 40:Patty at the front desk was spot-on with her recommendations & a joy to speak with! We were a bit nervous having a room at the front of hotel with the train & construction noise but Patty was right...You couldn't hear it at all. What we did hear was like waves crashing on the oceans!!! Great description because we had just arrived from Cancun! We did eat breakfast on the onsite restaurant... Service, presentation & food we're all excellent!!

Review 41:Erratic wifi

Review 42:Loved everything about this hotel. Super friendly and helpful staff, the most comfy hotel bed I have ever slept in, beautiful decor, large room with great facilities.

Review 43:Hotel seemed to lack atmosphere in the lounge bar and dining areas.

Review 44:Room size and comfort. Air conditioning easy to operate efficient and quiet. Shower room was airy and spacious. Tasteful and stylish decor in room and main areas. Very centrally located but quiet in the room. Portering staff very friendly and helpful. Reception - all but one member of staff lifted their head and said hello when we either going into or out of the lift which was welcoming and friendly. I would not hesitate to stay here again

Review 45:No bath. Room was relatively dark with little external light; however, there were many lamps in the room.

Review 46:Excellent location, 1 block away from one of the Loop station. Very clean. Pleasant and helpful staff. Coffee maker with coffee in room with a nice place. Very large walk-in shower, no bath.

Review 47:building structure is a little older so you can hear people outside your rooms at night (if you are a light sleeper).

Review 48:Super friendly/ helpful staff, amazingly comfortable beds, great location!!

Review 49:Couches in common room/living room uncomfortable, too stiff. Some cigar/cigarette smell from previous guests, even though the hotel is smoke free.

Review 50:Clean, beautiful decor and ambience, classy place. Close to Millinium Park and "L". Love the boutique size vs hundreds of rooms.

Review 51:I had to re-sign into the wifi each time that I tried to use it.

Review 52:Front desk staff and the valets were so great and the whole facility was beautiful. Much more than we expected.

Review 53:Great location. Enormous room, and bath, comfortable bed. Room faced the El, which might be a cause for concern, but we heard nothing but low background noise throughout the day and overnight.

Review 54:There is nothing I did not about this hotel

Review 55:The staff were always pleasant and accommodating, friendly and approachable, the room was beautiful, clean, fresh and tidy, the location for me was perfect, easy walk to the parks, metro CTA and shops

Review 56:Hotel staff was hit or miss, some great staff others not as great. Checking in was a mess and retrieving our luggage from the hotel holding room took a very long time. Some hotel staff seemed to congregate outside the hotel door with their friends rather than actively monitoring the doors for guests.

Review 57:Location is great. Rooms are nice with large bathrooms.

Review 58:"Free wifi" is rubbish - even when you pay for "premium" service it is impossibly slow. That said the hotel refunded the cost of this after I complained. No firm pillows and some construction noise from the street (air horn blowing every minuted up until 1am).

Review 59:Great location, staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 60:No access to ice machines or vending on the floors. With construction right next door, the main entrance was difficult for taxis and others to navigate pick up and drop off.

Review 61:Courteous and helpful employees. Great location!!

Review 62:Limited facilities.

Review 63:Location very good, Monroe Harbour and river north all within walkable distance. Good nights sleep, room was quiet and bed was comfortable.

Review 64:we should have been told there is extensive road work going on outside the hotel which makes access by car difficult. and the sound of trains rumbling by was a bit of a nuisance..

Review 65:location. location. location. the room. the toiletries.the bed. over all a great expereince.

Review 66:The doormen never once helped me with the extremely heavy doors to the street.

Review 67:Right on the 'L', but no traffic noise. So close to the Cloud Gate and the Art Museum, to transport, to shopping. Great place for breakfast right across the street. Had a great meal at the bar one night.

Review 68:Booking my stay. This is the second time that I've had to split mystay into two reservations. One on the hotel website and thru a thirdparty website. It didn't make sense.

Review 69:I stay here frequently and just love the place. Everything is top notch.

Review 70:Wish they had some hooks or somewhere to hang your towels in the bathroom. I try and conserve but everyday they had to change out our towels because the only place to put them was on the ground...everything else was great!

Review 71:Building work outside hotel. There was a lot of work being undertaken outside hotel due to a new elevated railway station being built.

Review 72:Very spacious and comfortable room, and very pleasant staff.

Review 73:Lack of available food and drink after hours. Many hungry people! In a City like Chicago, you would not think that this would be an issue. Plan ahead for this.

Review 74:Everyone working at the hotel was quick to help and get us information. The staff was very friendly but did not call us "you guys." (Thank you!) The room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable.

Review 75:WiFi didn't work very well for us, but we stayed on the top floor in one of the corner rooms, so not sure if the range just didn't extend to us.

Review 76:The staff was very helpful and friendly. The adamus lounge had excellent, if pricey, food and drinks

Review 77:The beds were very comfortable, although I would have liked Queen beds rather than doubles for ladies travelling as a group. The staff were terrific.

Review 78:There is construction in front of the hotel, which makes it difficult to location. The valet parking system is very confusing. We waited 30 minutes for valet when we arrived and another 30 minutes for valet upon departure.

Review 79:I like the decor of the hotel and the rooms were a nice size and very comfortable. Each employee that I encountered was very nice and professional and accommodating.

Review 80:There was nothing I can pick on. That says it all.

Review 81:Great sub-luxury hotel, great value. 'Quiet' exterior entrace. Inside was art-deco beautiful - high ceilings, wide hallways, killer marble-walled bathroom. Watched Netflix and HBOIN over free wifi without flicker. Steps from L to O'Hare. So easy - great find at 2/3rds the price of other loop hotels. Nicer rooms and restauarant / bar space here than Plimpton. Room and bathroom were immaculate. Linens and towels were, as beat I can tell, brand spanking new. Stayed on 9th floor above the elevated part of the Land did not hear L once.

Review 82:The free Wi-Fi was OK, but only 1Mb. There is an option to upgrade to a "high speed" net for $5.95/day, but even "high speed" is only 3Mb.

Review 83:Fantastic location, very helpful and friendly staff and nice room.

Review 84:Parking and meter maids suck in Chicago so recommend valet $$$ or using the airport (Midway) long-term econmy lots.

Review 85:The location is perfect for sight- seeing and getting to the L train stops. Lots of shopping and great food locations nearby hotel. The bartender, Ryan was awesome and made the best drinks so let him make one up for you!

Review 86:Our view was terrible. We looked out our window directly to the back of another building. All we could see was a brick wall.

Review 87:The staff was great and the location was pleasantly close to everything.

Review 88:Not much - minor things really. Bar didn't open until after 4 and we wanted a cocktail before heading out for our evening. We couldn't get into our room early enough, but understand it was full. People leaving were allowed a late check out even though we were waiting for apparently the only room to be turned over that day??

Review 89:the room was excellent! Most comfortable bed I've slept in!

Review 90:The wifi sucked. And if you wanted faster wifi you had to pay an extra$6 I believe. But that's my only complaint.

Review 91:The room was really clean and like other reviews stated the bathroom wasvery spacious. I'd say I asked for a lot during my stay and thestaff was very friendly and accomendating. I'd stay here again.

Review 92:The metrolink (the "L") is in close proximity. It is a bit noisy, but did not disrupt me personally.

Review 93:We really enjoyed our location and comfy bed.

Review 94:I do wish the hotel staff had informed us about the construction in front of the hotel and offered us good alternative routes to get around the construction. Despite calling the front desk for assistance several times, we ended up driving around for almost an hour trying to figure out how to get to the hotel using the construction detours - our vehicle navigation system does not take into account construction detours. Also, our room was right next to the L train, which meant that I could hear it every time it rumbled by my window.

Review 95:The bed was comfortable and the room - though small -was nice. The location was good! I was within walking distance of many great shops and restaurants.

Review 96:The cleanliness of the room was a little disappointing-- there were a couple hairs in the shower and behind the sink on my first morning in the room (i.e., not mine). And on the second day, I left the room at 9:45 and came back for an hour after lunch, and yet it didn't get made up until after 5 pm.

Review 97:I requested a "quiet room" when booking and wound up with a room at the back of the hotel that looked onto an air shaft, not the street (yay!) It was huge and had a long entry hall between the door and main part of the room; although this meant that the closet was awkwardly positioned it also meant that the room got basically no hallway noise. The room had a fridge and coffee maker as standard amenities, which I really appreciated. Decor was fun without being over the top, and the bathroom was huge and had a large walk-in shower.

Review 98:A bit of a smell of drains in the front entrance Not the hotels fault but list if disruption due to works outside and therefore a but if a difficulty with taxis

Review 99:Most of the staff were very pleasant and helpful just a couple not so The food we had was brilliant

Review 100:The rooms were spacious and very well-appointed. The lobby and bar area looked great and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly! We stayed for 5 nights, then for a further night later in the week. We got an upgrade for our final night! Great!

Review 101:Free wifi -- not so fast. They should call it "Free Basic" with a real big asterisk. It's 1MB which is ok for basic email and websites, but just in looking up some museums to visit the images crawled reminding me of dial up. (speedtest did verify 1MB though). You can then upgrade to "Premium" (HA! - big 3MB) for $6/day or what I call the equiv of $180/mo. Silversmith, you were great otherwise, but get over it with the gotcha. I protested (mildly) and fee was waived. Staff was most polite and accommodating after some attempts at convincing me that it was what it was. Kudo's to staff. Bah humbug to management.

Review 102:Newly refurbished with good lighting in the room, very comfortable bed, quiet, Keurig coffee maker (I bought better pods at nearby Peets coffee).

Review 103:The only issue would be the noise from the L train that is right in front. But I was able to get used to it pretty quickly.

Review 104:Very clean. Nice size rooms.

Review 105:The bartender in the lobby our second night was subpar. Other staff worked to make up for it. Noticed when we valets our car that it stayed parked on the street for several hours. I felt it was safe outside of the hotel but it got extremely dirty sitting u see the El. Location is convenient, but not the safest past dark. As we pulled up to check in we had two panhandlers immediately ask us for money as we got out of our car.

Review 106:Great location, pretty common area, and room was prettier in person than pictures online.

Review 107:The EL tracks are literally out the front door. So be sure to request a room up top and towards the rear. It is loud. Wasn't bad in our room on the 10th floor near the back.

Review 108:Room was clean and updated. They upgraded us for free to a huge room. Shower was very large and has good pressure and hot water. Walking distance to Millenium Park, theater district, restaurants, Willis (Sears) Tower and lakefront.

Review 109:We stayed here for 3 nights after my boyfriend proposed. I didn't know he'd planed it but this hotel offered the absolute best location and service. We we're welcomed graciously by Patty and the stay was amazing. Comfortable bed and the utmost privacy... we couldn't have found a better hotel.

Review 110:the only thing which we found akward is, when we asked for one more duvet they told us they would not have a spare one? what if we would have booked a twin room?

Review 111:the location was excellent, very spacious rooms and beautifyl interior, I can highly recommend it

Review 112:Don't expect anyone in Chicago to know about this hotel or where it is. SEVEN cab drivers had to be given the address and we took the CTA on the way in ($10 vs $50 for a cab). It would be really helpful if the Silversmith would tell you which stop to get off at and how to get there from CTA stops. Thankful that Chicagoans are nice people!

Review 113:Very modern, clean and averaged price hotel. Comfortable and friendly staff.

Review 114:Nothing

Review 115:Great location and room. A special thank you to a staff member named Art that provided me an early check-in and plenty of information about Chicago

Review 116:The hotel's location on Wabash St. puts the elevated train right in front of the hotel. From our room on the 4th floor you could definitely hear the trains going by.

Review 117:We had a large room (living area with separate bedroom), nicely decorated. Friendly staff. Very comfortable. Easy walk to Michigan Avenue, Millennium Park, the Art Institute, great restaurants.

Review 118:Entrance doors are VERY hard to open, air in the hotel room was aweful, light smell of moisture in the bathroom - some spots in the shower could have been cleaned better

Review 119:Decor was beautiful, beds and pillows were awesom (best ever in a hotel), staff was very friendly

Review 120:I don't think our room was cleaned/visited the entire time we were there. We had the "do not disturb" sign up much of the time, and recycled towels, and I really don't like being fussed over much anyway but there were times when we were gone for several hours and did not have the DND sign up and no one came. Only difficulty was that the trash got a bit full. I could have called but didn't, this was not a big deal.

Review 121:The bar staff was especially polite and helpful, a young white guy and young black lady, both terrific. The front desk staff and doormen likewise very friendly and helpful.

Review 122:Many stuff in room don't work but housekeeper ignored them, for example, clock beside bed stopped. It's really inconvenient for us because we from NYC where have different time, I can't know what the exactly time everyday. Second, there is a tissue box without tissue everyday. So why you put a box there????????

Review 123:good location

Review 124:My only compliant is the fact that there are no ice machines available on the floors, it is inconvinent to have to call someone or go to the front desk.

Review 125:No microwave in the room

Review 126:This hotel is in the loop, near everything we wanted to see and do. Since it is right on the Orange Line, it was really easy to get from Midway Airport to the hotel. When I called the hotel before arriving, the gentlemen at the front desk provided excellent information about how to get to the hotel. When we arrived, the same gentleman was at the desk and gave us great suggestions about where to eat nearby. This was especially important because the 5th worst snowstorm in Chicago history hit while we were there. Another staff member went out of her way to help us warm up some drink. Great experience all the way around!

Review 127:We have no feed back on how to improve as everything was awesome!

Review 128:The cleanliness of the hotel and its modern updates with the preservation of its heritage. The staff were awesome. The beds were so comfortable.

Review 129:The localization of the hotel is very good, in the heart of the city. Very easy to go to the main tourist points. the employees are very polite.

Review 130:Wifi not particularly strong but wasn't important to us

Review 131:Great location, close to the loop and within walking distance of all the attractions. Warm when Chicago was experiencing minus 26 Fahrenheit temperatures

Review 132:When arriving in our room it was apparent the bathroom was not clean. There was pubic hair in our bathtub, hair on our sink and spots in our shower and toilet. They tried to switch rooms but that was not possible. Unfortunately there is no cleaning staff after 11pm so they sent a security guard to our room to clean it. He tried his best but we didn't really want to use the bathroom. He also left the cleaning solution in our room. The next day I spoke with Hans the manager and he was very sorry for our poor experience and comped us. We will try the hotel again and hopefully have a better experience the next time around.

Review 133:Nice room Staff was helpful Manager worked with us to compensate for poor experience
