Reviews for Gifford House Inn
Review 1:Nothing from advertisements for Gifford House prepared us for the openly loud and proud gay population in Provincetown. Or the Purgatory bar housed at Gifford House where they let men in on Friday night in only under shorts and socks. I would not want to take children to this town at all.
Review 2:The staff was very helpful. The older home it's located in is very pretty. It's very conveniently located to the downtown area. They had a very nice deluxe continental breakfast.
Review 3:we were at the bar but there was no one there. we were hoping for more people and dancing. also continental breakfast could be earlier than 9am. was awake at 6:30 and had to wait till 9 for coffee
Review 4:staff was very caring and took their time with you.liked it overall
Review 5:I should have extended my trip :--( Will definitely be back.
Review 6:* Great location, one block away from Commercial Street, had a back corner room, which provided a nice view of the rolling hills and sunset. * Included with my stay, the staff served a continental breakfast every morning, which consisted of a variety of bagels, bread and cereal. What I loved most was the coffee, had a nice, dark brewed flavor! * Although I ordered the continental breafast as a part of my room package, I ended ordering twice from the restaurant, their Eggs Flourentine is delicious! * Staff was very friendly and helpful to any questions I had regarding my stay. * Room was nice and tidy, and I loved that it had an ensuite bathroom, great water pressure. * Wifi reception was great! Ended up watching a few movies on my computer and tablet device, zero issues. The property of Gifford House matches their description on their website, it's clean, nice and cozy.
Review 7:Beds very worn and uncomfortable. No advance notification that there is no elevator. Was put on third floor. No brewed decaf coffee.
Review 8:Rooms very clean. Staff friendly
Review 9:Hard bed, no pillows, no AC, small and very basic room, in need of slight renovation.
Review 10:Location, location, location! Gay friendly, nice staff, free parking, bar onsite, good place to stay when budget conscious
Review 11:A Gem through and through. Exceptional Accomodations, including hot delicious shower, ultra comfortable bed, highly warm and attentive staff, wonderful location, and a sense of timeless history that ties it all together. Heartfelt Thanks to all connected with this memorable stay
Review 12:Very loud event one night, asked at about 1130 how long it would last - til about 1 am - so asked if they had another room and we were able to sleep in a much quieter room that night. Didn't have to move all our stuff, just a temporary thing.
Review 13:Lovely old property B&B in prime Provincetown location with plenty of space. Veranda to sit on, garden to sit in, breakfast til 11 am.
Review 14:Dance hall under my bedroom with thunderous bass drums till small hours. Nowhere to put stuff in tiny rooms.Needs shelves for washbag etc. WiFi only downstairs in public area. We were in 3/4 size bed for two. One flat pillow each. Not comfortable!
Review 15:OK breakfast. But no telling when those eggs were boiled as straight out of the refrigerator!
Review 16:No coffee making facilities provided in the room.
Review 17:Good continental breakfast, spacious and well maintained feel to the property. Central location, nightclub and bar within immediate vicinity.
Review 18:What I didn't count on is that the Gifford House sits on top of a dance club called Purgatory. I checked into the GH on a Sunday, and soon discovered Sunday is Leather NIght. I went to bed early, around 10, as I'd had a long day. Soon I was awakened by the thumping, vibrating and loud music from the dance club - felt like I was in Purgatory! Could not get to sleep until the club closed at 1 or 2 am. While a beautiful setting, I'd only recommend the Gifford House to those who party.
Review 19:I loved the location and the free parking!
Review 20:There are two bars operating in the lobby, if you want to sleep before 1AM - forget it. Breakfast selection is very poor. Also limited sitting space. Lack of privacy, you can here anything that goes on in the property. No elevator - need to carry bags to second floor.
Review 21:Very good location, right next to Commercial St. and main attractions.
Review 22:The room appeared to be one that's not ordinarily rented out-looks like a room for "help". It was dark, dreary and kind of spooky. This room was nothing like those on their web site.
Review 23:-location away from the busy Commercial St. -the 2 men who checked me in and out were very accommodating
Review 24:the air conditioner couldn't quite keep the room cool (until the evening)
Review 25:location is perfect for walking downtown, free parking is a bonus, clean and quiet lodging
Review 26:Really wasn't happy with the level of noise coming from downstairs. Between the piano bar and the nightclub, it was impossible to sleep. Not a great choice for a quiet weekend away.
Review 27:Love the location and the price.
Review 28:Just thought that the bartender could have been more friendly. To be serving and working with the public he should be happy and sociable. Seemed like he had attitude for some reason......
Review 29:Loved the location and having the bars being right there. Raoul was very nice and informative when we were checking in. Will go back there for sure.
Review 30:The accommodation was great and Greg & Michael made us feel very welcome! Their hospitality meant a lot us. The accommodation is around the corner from bars, marginal way walk and the beach, which makes it a perfect spot to stay. I will not stay anywhere else when I visit Ogunquit next time
Review 31:Off milk provided for continental breakfast on one day. Could hear music from club downstairs (located in basement). Security a bit lax - not always someone on front desk and nowhere secure to leave bags before check in.
Review 32:Place was located close to all shops/restaurants and the waterfront. Free continental breakfast. Ensuite bathroom.
Review 33:The staff at the Gifford House are super friendly, helpful, and overall great. I've stayed here several times before and will continue to do so as long as they keep being awesome and affordable.
Review 34:Room was on third floor. I have old knees. Not a good fit. Room was very nice. Bed had sinking center problem.
Review 35:Love Provincetown anytime. Spring flowers were out and everything was beautiful. Inn has character and old world charm.
Review 36:Gifford House is a perfect central location. Inn was clean and quiet. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The continental breakfast was very generous and very good.
Review 37:The only issue was the noise....older buildings do not have much insulation and thus, we could hear the crying of a baby through most of the night. Also, could have used a tiny nip of shampoo.....just sayin"
Review 38:We liked the location, the ambience, the staff (very friendly and helpful), and the historic nature of the Inn.
Review 39:The inn is quite dated and would need some updates - especially on matrasses. Some shampoo, shower gel and body lotion as well as a hair dryer would be nice (at least for your female guests. :))
Review 40:Overall, we really liked the Inn. It's cozy, the staff is very nice and we also liked the bar. The breakfast was basic but good. The location is great - in the center of the town and close to bars and restaurants.
Review 41:uncomfortable bed!
Review 42:great to have a friendly bar tender to serve you a cocktail on location. Staff very cordial. Location is near perfect some rooms even have a wonderful view of the harbor.
Review 43:The only bad thing was the bed. Just and old spring mattress, but who goes to Ptown to sleep.
Review 44:Guy at the front desk was very nice and gave us a discount because it was off season.
Review 45:The breakfast. It begins only at 9am and the last day, we left before and it was impossible to have a breakfast. Furthermore, it is very simple, light. A little bit old for the room. No shampoo in the bathroom.
Review 46:Very well situated in order to visit the city by walking. Room old but clean.
Review 47:Our room was facing the street, so was a bit noisy if you left the windows open.
Review 48:It was just a block away from the Commercial street, and the free hotel parking made it extremely easy to move on foot.
Review 49:The place has 3 stories and NO elevator that should have been pointed out in your listings on line. You had to go downstairs to the reception for a hairdryer and they did not offer any shampoo - when we asked for it we were told they do not have any. We asked the person at the reception how they got a 4 star rating, he didn't know.
Review 50:The people were friendly.
Review 51:no heating in rooms - it was cold! rooms and decor are outdated, could be refreshed, ie new bed linens.
Review 52:Breakfast included Location friendly staff reasonable rate clean pub with fireplace
Review 53:No shampoo. I'm glad I remembrted to bring some. I remembered this from a previous stay. Buying a small shampoo in P Town is $$$$
Review 54:Location was excellent and a good vlalue for a clean room. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay sgsin or I might try Jim's other guest houe two streets from the Gifford.
Review 55:My bed could have been more comfortable, but then most beds that aren't my own usually aren't that comfortable to me.
Review 56:The staff of the Gifford House was really friendly, and offered great recommendations for things to do in Ptown. The Inn itself is quaint and quirky. I found it to be just adorable. If you're looking for modern hotel fixtures and amenities, though, this probably isn't the place for you. The Porchside Bar and piano bar were quite enjoyable. Can't beat the location, just one block from the heart of Ptown's Commercial Street, where all the shops and restaurants you could want are located. Breakfast is free. Yay! It was nothing special, but hey, it's free! Like the town itself, Gifford House is very LGBT-friendly.
Review 57:No refrigerator in the room, when the piano bar is on you will hear it until 2-3am even if you are in the farthest room in the building.
Review 58:Very charming inn, perfect location (one block from main street), great breakfast, piano bar is great
Review 59:Nothing was wrong with our stay.
Review 60:We had very relaxed stay. Everything was near by, the accommodations were excellant. So good we book Bear week.for July 2015.
Review 61:Wasn't warned that the evening piano bar on Monday was so loud at night. If anyone reads this, don't make it keep you away. It's a great place to stay.
Review 62:The view was amazing. I was in room 10 I believe. Up top anyway. The staff were really nice. Location is excellent. Next time I'm up there I will definitely prefer to stay there.
Review 63:The innkeepers themselves were super hospitable (and cute!). The location was very central to everything we needed and wanted to do. You don't need to take a cab from the ferry, it's very walkable. We'll stay here again next year if we do a trip to Ptown!
Review 64:It was a little challenging to find the trash can at first. That is the worst I've got for this place.
Review 65:The staff are charming and helpful, there is free parking and located off the middle of Commercial St. They even have a decent breakfast. Not fancy, but welcoming and comfortable.
Review 66:It's on top of a steep hill so the walk up was harder on old knees. There is no elevator, but the staff willingly carried bags up the flights of stairs.
Review 67:The location right in the center of P-town was great. Permit parking was like having your own private space for the whole stay (parking in P-town is a challenge). The staff was so helpful, happy, and friendly. The club on the premises was not an noise issue. Although we are old and straight, we never felt out of place.
Review 68:I spent one night at this hotel en route from Nantucket to Boston. The person on the desk was very helpful and advised me of some fun things to do in Ptown on a Monday. The room itself was old fashioned but in a nice way that worked. It was clean and the bed was firm and comfy. There was no TV but I was on holiday - I can watch TV at home. Also, I don't think there was any aircon but the room was OK without it. The hotel is also very centrally located in Ptown, and handy for the late night pizza shop. There is a bar and a nightclub downstairs and I could hear the music in my room. I was still a bit jet lagged and was very tired around 9pm, but when the music started it meant that I only had to venture downstairs to find some night life - so this was actually a bonus for me. However, if for some reason you are hoping for a quiet early night in Ptown then this isn't the hotel for you. I ended up chatting in the bar until 1am when I learnt that everything in Ptown comes to a stop so I never got round to exploring the club part, but I can confirm the bar was great. I the morning I couldn't figure out how to work the shower but someone came to help. Breakfast was toast, cereals and fruit etc. I would definitely stay here again
Review 69:What an inviting and historic Inn! Our stay at the "Gifford" was pleasant. I think in large part because the staff was so accommodating and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable.
Review 70:My mattress wasnt the most comfortable, but other times. Ive stayed and had a better experience
Review 71:I love staying here. The location is perfect, everyone who works there is very friendly, and I always feel welcome, safe, & at home each time I visit.
Review 72:There's at the end of the week a piano event that can be noisy after a long day of biking and walking, but somehow it was good played and we managed to enjoyed from the room.
Review 73:The old house well kept, the room and the view, the good atention and orientation of the staff around the town, the relation of price and quality is best in PTOWN.
Review 74:Music until 1am. I was aware in advance of the situation, however, I was very tired and would have liked to go to sleep earlier than 1am.
Review 75:It was a very homey house. Staff was very friendly & helpful. Continental breakfast was good. Location was steps from main street.
Review 76:Continental breakfast was ordinary and pretty lackluster
Review 77:Very close to bars and shopping. The staff were very friendly.
Review 78:I was very happy at the Gifford House. Thinking about going back next year.

Review 123:no hairdryer in room. bathroom vanity very small. no where to keep luggage off the floor. breakfast was basic.
Review 124:location. comfortable bed and pillows. reasonable value.
Review 125:the fact that we had no tv and no a/c and the bed was super small and the room was way too small for the amount of money off season we paid for it.
Review 126:I loved the fact that it was so close to commercial street and all the shopping and venues also. the free breakfast every morning was adequate
Review 127:very warm room and stuffy. (mine didn't have AC, and with their level of room rate, they should have it.) No TV.
Review 128:1.location (surrounded by 3 gay bars) 2. very frienedly staff. 3. good wifi reception 3. good breakfast 4. that they don't check every guest coming in and out like some places do. You feel comfortable to invite a friend over without hassle or extra charge
