Reviews for Fremantle Prison YHA

Review 1:In ghe family room (double bed & a bunk) you csnnt see the tv from the bottom bunk. Bathroom light goes off when u are in shower as the shower curtain blocks movement from the sensor

Review 2:Friendly welcoming and unique being an old goal. Kitchen set up was fantastic & the range of common leisure areas was superb.

Review 3:The only complaint really is the room light going off every 2 minutes

Review 4:The staff were great. The rooms were clean. + it was great being able to store our bags the day we left.

Review 5:Room wasn't cleaned until two days after we checked in, despite reminding Reception staff. No mirror or desk/storage in room (more a suggestion for improvement).

Review 6:Great location. Fairly quiet atmosphere. Shower and bathrooms were clean.

Review 7:Cell rooms are a bit unbearable with no fans or air con and makes sleeping in summer months not pleasant.

Review 8:Staff super helpful, kitchen facilities were one of the best, different vibe and very central.

Review 9:Tea/coffee making facilities would be great in the family rooms.

Review 10:Fantastic location to the heart of Freo. So much history, very quiet, friendly accomodating staff. Will be back :)

Review 11:Hard to find anywhere to plug in a hairdryer in front of a mirror. Kitchen needs bags and pens to bag & label food.

Review 12:Living room was blissfully peaceful, even with 10 people using it. Full 10-bed dorm was tidy and quiet. Kitchen was well-equipped and orderly. Fascinating historical info framed on the walls. (Worked out from an old map that I was staying in the former hospital.) This place attracts a good crowd. Surprisingly good vibe for a former prison.

Review 13:There are 2 FREE bus routes in Fremantle called CATS. So If travelling by CAT from the railway station be sure to use the one that puts you out at the Markets so you can use the ramp approach to the Prison, NOT THE STEPS! That is a shocking access, particularly if carrying luggage

Review 14:Our en suited family room was in a brand new building, all on ground level. The kitchen is also a new build - fabulous with all stainless steel appliances. There are plenty of common areas.

Review 15:Very comfortable beds and everything very clean. Family room shared with sister and her friend. Lovely spacious en-suite bathroom. Peaceful surrounds.

Review 16:Room .. nothing to put the clothes behind the door and light close automaticly if you don t move inside the room..And no mirror in a room so the price should be less

Review 17:Kitchen and shower and staff

Review 18:At times there was a queue for ladies' toilet:if you need to brush your teeth or improve your make up etc. someone else has to wait. Room 108 is too close to the entrance and all noise from the kitchen/eating area and coming and goings trough the main entrance can be heard in that room.

Review 19:I liked the way you have resigned the prison - much of old interior and yet modern facilities like showers and kitchen. In addition, there is a lot of space to spend free time - the TV/reading/computing room is great, and there are chairs and things to sit on outdoors as well.

Review 20:I'd give the facility a score of 4.5 stars out of 5. An excellent stay for my partner, myself and an adult daughter. Loved the uniqueness of the site and the central location. Top marks for presentation and friendliness.

Review 21:The pillows are too soft..

Review 22:The family room is clean and spacious enough for a family of 4. My kids of age 5 and 10 love the chess area. Its location is near to all tourist attractions in Fremantle.

Review 23:The clothes rack in the room was pretty cheap and wonky. It was almost a hindrence as it looked like it would collapse so felt it took up too much space. The bathroom floor got soaking wet - the shower curtain didn't seem to do much. On the scheme of things not really big issues.

Review 24:Loved the character of the hostel and the fact it was so family friendly. Even the other guests engaged with our kids. Was a fabulous location!!

Review 25:Staff were great; extremely helpful and welcoming. Great facilities in the kitchen if you want to cook your own food. Brilliant location and a fun place to stay.

Review 26:Bit exxy, but for the experience it was worth it for a few nights. Noise level on a Fri/Sat night was very

Review 27:Really cool concept, very clean and new, with comfortable beds. Free wifi in public spaces which luckily for me carried into my room as well :)

Review 28:We did not like our first room no air con & very hot no table or chairs hence we up graded a room with air con & em suite very nice

Review 29:Convenient to where we wanted to be and very quiet

Review 30:Wifi only available in common room and kitchen.

Review 31:Super clean. Most comfortable bed I've stayed in for 3 months! Staff were really nice and very helpful. Short walk to centre and train station. Great architecture, really feels like you are in a prison!

Review 32:Lack of flyscreens & aircon/ fan in cell room made for a fairly stuffy environment. The noise echoing everywhere was pretty hideous overnight too.

Review 33:Location! Location! Location! Historically this was quite fascinating.

Review 34:Our room rate of $125 a night was too expensive for YHA. It should have been about $90 a night.

Review 35:We liked the proximity to town, wharf & male prison. It was easy walking to all interesting places including the markets.

Review 36:Some people in dorm inconsiderate of others .

Review 37:Comfy beds, great showers, excellent staff, good facilities. The fact its built in an old prison! Great location :)

Review 38:My husband found the cell rooms a little noisy.

Review 39:The hostel has been renovated to an excellent standard with good use of the space, kitchen is fantastic, highly recommended.

Review 40:The concept is mint-deluxe as is the location. The staff were knowledgeable, helpful and enthusiastic which is kinda what the whole Fremantle experience is like.

Review 41:--

Review 42:We love everything here!!Location is very nice too, just behind of Fremantle market, rooms are newly renovated, clean and comfortable. Kitchen is fully equipped! we enjoy our cooking there, complete sets of utensils, superb!! This is the most comfortable prison in the world!!

Review 43:No towel included. We were given a first floor cell with no lift and not offered choice. Very hard for older people to get to room with luggage and i have a bad hip so very painful negotiating stairs.

Review 44:Great position easy walk tomarkets, shops, train and cruise terminal. Very clean

Review 45:fantastic location, close to markets walking distance to cappuccino strip. Staff friendly and helpful .Very comfortable, clean and quirky to be inside prison

Review 46:stayed in a few back packers all over the world this would have to be the best would recommend it to everyone.......thank you for a great stay wish it had been longer

Review 47:The sensor lights in the rooms were a bit annoying..

Review 48:A very well thought out and executed integration of an accommodation facility with an existing heritage frame. We were a young couple with a private room, and we didn't feel once like we were in a backpacker environment. Great history, and fun place to stay!

Review 49:The automatic light sensor in our room is kind of a nuisance as it just switches off if there are no movements....not helpful when one is reading a book. The air-conditioning's cut-in/cut-out is quite noisy.

Review 50:Friendly staff. Clean room. Convenient location as the hostel is within walking distance to the Fremantle Prison and some places of interest in Fremantle. I would definitely stay here again if I ever visit there again.

Review 51:Everything was fantastic. We stayed in a private room which was quiet, airy, spacious and really maintained the old prison feel. Bathrooms were amazing - rainforest showers!! Very clean and modern facilities with a large, well equipped kitchen and excellent common rooms. Prison decor has largely remained as it was when it was a prison so it really feels like you are wandering a prison, but with comfy modern amenities. Bed was quiet and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would love to come back!

Review 52:Nothing bad about I really. If you are precious and fussy perhaps not the place for you however I really enjoyed it

Review 53:Great place! Very clean and quirky cool experience. Loved it and will be back

Review 54:The room was quite cold inside. Not that busy yet but to me that was actually a plus. Free wifi only in the common areas.

Review 55:Friendly staff. New condition. Nice location. Large and clean common areas. Excellent showers.

Review 56:Staying in the old prison cells was unique. Bunk bed very comfortable. Location is excellent - an easy 5 min stroll to Fremantle markets and the cappuccino strip.

Review 57:There was nothing I didn't like - it surpassed expectations.

Review 58:Interesting location; beautifully restored prison accommodation; excellent youth hostel facilities - possibly the best youth hostel I have stayed in worldwide; interesting history.

Review 59:The TV position on the wall made it difficult to watch.

Review 60:Clean and very comfortable. Staff were helpful.
