Reviews for Rock Lake Resort

Review 1:Floor dirty was the only thing.

Review 2:Quaint, private, easy access to trolley, downtown, loved the board walk, would have enjoyed kayaking, but major rain when we were there

Review 3:I think they are working on a roach problem found a couple in our side of the villa

Review 4:Staff was very helpful and friendly place seemed well kept also like the option to free canoeing

Review 5:The sheets and the comforter were so thin, and old, I was cold and uncomfortable. I got the spare pink blanket out of the closet, and there was gum stuck to it. There were black mascara-like stains on the pillow cases. There were black hairs stuck in the towels. I found one that did not have hair in it. The room smelled dirty like a damp basement mixed with bleach. The floor appeared dirty and I did not take my shoes off at all. There were transient construction workers drinking and being loud outside all night until we left in the morning. After I told them to stop, I was accosted. The only positive experience is the clerk brought me a hairdryer when I requested one. And the towels were new, however I could not enjoy them because of the hair. This place reminds me of a motel they depict in movies, where people go to hide out from the cops or they don't make it out alive.

Review 6:There was a television.

Review 7:Loved this charming place, stayed in a cottage overlooking the lake, so peaceful sitting on the balcony, enjoyed the pool. Convenience store walking distance and we took the free trolley bus from over the road into the city which was very helpful. Would love to stay again.

Review 8:The a/c didn't work well and was very noisy . The tv was old and hard to view, small and blurry.

Review 9:Very old but remodeled and clean indoors. The outside looks worse for wear. Did not stay in cottage which is across the street. We did book a cottage but she had sold out by our arrival, we did receive a credit the next day when bringing the fact to her attention.

Review 10:It was run down. The awning was torn as you enter the room. It smelled like bleach when you entered the room, and it looked like there was mold under the air conditioner. The office is across the street on a busy hi-way. The room was never cleaned the two days we were there. The white sheets had a yellowish color. The television is a 19 inch old cathode ray tube. A fresh coat of paint would do wonders for the place. The tennis court fence is broken, and bent over. There was no do not disturb door sign, but it was not needed.

Review 11:You can use the canoes, and kayaks at no extra charge. The outdoor sitting area was nice over looking the pond. The dishware looked new, and the drying mat was clean. The small kitchen was clean. The shampoo and soap dispenser had plenty of soap. The pool area looked well kept.

Review 12:First time I had an argument during check-in. Wanted to leave but after ending the hopeless discussion we got the "nice" room. Ok parking the car behind the room was the nice part I think. Felt like being back in the 80's. Price and quality are not fair.

Review 13:Office Staff could be more customer orientationed.

Review 14:Old Florida cottage styling. Man made "rock" lake. Located in a transitional area. Convenient to local trolly, Edison/Ford Summer Homed. Half mile walk to historic, up and coming area. 3t minutes to Sanibel/ Captiva Island.

Review 15:The reclaimed swamp water smell was bad. Tennis courts unusable condition. Canoe and kayaks looked beat. Lattice work between patios was missing on ours. So you pretty much sit with the neighbors......was not good. Beds were uncomfortable. Just a little too pricey for what you get. Not horrible, but not great.

Review 16:Stayed in a cottage around the lake. Cute lake with fish and turtles. Pool was nice. Clean scenic property. Nice nature walk. Cottages are obviously updated. Good job on that. It seems maybe they are slowly updating things. The already updates are nice.

Review 17:Horrible location, did not feel safe. TV set was terrible.the so called lake was very diapointing.website was misleading.

Review 18:Bed was comfortable and room was very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 19:when we wanted to check-out, there was nobody at teh reception and phone was switched off - had to wait half an hour for phone connection. I wasn't informed that some rooms are not at the lake, but on the other side of street - that came as negative surprise as you get street motel feeling instead of promised charming lake atmosphere. I was not happy to cross the street to go to pool. pool wasn't heated (they advertise that pool is heated).

Review 20:view from cottages around the lake

Review 21:The air conditioner was much too loud for rest, the clock radio was broken, and the room smelled very musty.

Review 22:close to my venue, the room was very clean and appeared to be freshly painted. Although I did not use them, there was a microwave and coffee maker in the room for my use.

Review 23:That it didnt have a data center with a printer, so we could check in early for our flight and print our boarding passes.

Review 24:The staff was exceptionally nice. We got in late, they left our key with detailed instructions for us to let ourselves in. I loved the turtles in the pond. I really liked the ambiance of the whole place.

Review 25:Tv was very very small...no breakfast offered....no coffee cups in room to go with coffee maker....very slow internet

Review 26:Very nice upgraded property...veryclean

Review 27:It seems from the 1970's and the TV was from then as well... AWFUL... small, high, fuzzy, poor channel choices. The smell from the pond was bad...

Review 28:It appeared freshly painted and was very clean

Review 29:As a female who was traveling alone I was a bit concerned for my safety and even more concerned for the safety of my vehicle.

Review 30:The rooms were updated and very clean.

Review 31:Had to be the smallest tube-TV I've ever seen in a hotel room and it was literally on a wall-stand almost touching the ceiling!! You could only watch while laying on your back in bed... Wall/window Air Conditioner was pretty LOUD, but it did drown out any outside noise as well...

Review 32:Cute setup... Clean as a whistle... Location is great, right next to downtown and Terry Park... Price is right.

Review 33:My only real complaint was the bed. It was hard.

Review 34:Staff was super friendly and very accommodating. The building was older was kept clean and neat. The grounds were nice as well

Review 35:Outer doors did not fit correctly.Outer doors were in great need of paint. The entire complex was in need of a complete freshening inside and out. The beautiful pond/lake in the pictures was partially covered with algae. The TV was an old CRT type TV, NOT A FLAT SCREEN. We had a problem with the plumbing during out stay.

Review 36:We chose the cottages based on other customer's comments. They wereplaced away from traffic noise. The pool water was clear and pleasant. Good variety of channels on the TV

Review 37:I loved the WHOLE THING! Staff, Room, Decor, cleanliness, Peacefullness...love the lake & dolphin fountains! PLUS it's right down the road from my favorite church / Light of Ft Myers! I will DEFINATELY be back....as often as possible!:) Shalom! Terry B.

Review 38:need sound barrier by road, need to paint, coverup some aging components. I'm sure salt air has a lot to do with it. Need better TV's

Review 39:Cottage was clean, bed was comfortable. patio was awesome !!! Pool was great.

Review 40:Already by stepping in there was a very strong smell of mold. We coulndn't use the closest because of that. Location was not like offered next to a lake, the lake was on the other side of the road, also the pool.

Review 41:Room was in general like offered online.

Review 42:Nothing! Only regret was not staying longer.

Review 43:A unique little place, offering all you could want for a short or long, break! Cottage was excellent with everything provided and spotless. Outlook onto the Lake offered tranquility and peacefulness and excellent value for money. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

Review 44:Simple amenities of a campground retreat, but pleasant and ideally located. I would use this site for a family retreat or overflow guests as it is convenient to downtown (1 mile?)with a woodsy environment. Lots of extras with kayak/ canoeing outdoor grills and a lovely little pond with fish, turtles and many interesting creatures! Individual cabins make it ideal for family reunions.

Review 45:Lack of upkeep of grounds, planters, outside allowed smoking, gazebo needed paint as did porches on rooms

Review 46:Cleanliness, location within walking distance to old downtown, seclusion from streets, outside porch seating area

Review 47:Slight smell which went away after we lit a candle for awhile. The front door was very rusty. The smoke alarm was beeping (sign of a dead battery). I had to stand of the chair and pull the battery out so we could sleep. Outside of that, for the money, its a great value.

Review 48:Nice quaint room and loved the patio overlooking the little lake. We arrived very late and the office was closed but the number was on the door and they answered and had left the key in the mailbox for us.

Review 49:We did not see any staff. Probably we were the only guests. The key was in an envelope at the Office. Our room was in a complete other area than shown above or in the Flyer of the Motel. But we had booked because of the nice area shown in the Flyer. In this way we were disappointed.

Review 50:No breakfast at all, only a coffee machine.

Review 51:Nothing that I can think of .

Review 52:It was very cute and everything was on the parking level so my Mom 89 didn't have to do any stairs . The flowers around the hotel were beautiful. There are two hotels rooms to a cabin. We stayed on the side with the lake and had a enclosed patio so Mom could look at the lake and watch the dolphin fountains surrounding the lake . It was very peaceful.

Review 53:We came very late from the other city and need to go early morning, but we don't have any problem with the check-in and check out, all the procedure and the staff that I had on the phone was very well organized.

Review 54:All though over all clean, moved lamp and there was a ring of dirt where it had been---- No screen's to leave door to patio open

Review 55:Very Quiet room only feet from road, good space, comfortable bed.

Review 56:Location - close to many points of interest, and easy access to others. The "cabin" setting alongside a lake was restful, enjoyed the stay very much. Very Clean - so important!! Staff very accommodating.

Review 57:Great location- very close to historic Fort Myers where you can walk around and shop and find a handful of good restaurants with indoor or outdoor sidewalk dining. Great pool, which we were lucky enough to have to ourselves since this is a nice, smaller resort. Very friendly, helpful staff.

Review 58:Next to a busy street, most the noise over-ridden by fountains.

Review 59:The well maintained duplex cabins had everything you would need for a day or a week's stay. Their. staff person obviously enjoyed working there and describing the establishment's amenities. The arc of cabins surrounding the circle lake with water fountain made a peaceful backdrop for sleeping. The back porch offered a beautiful lake vista. Pool was lovely, had a visiting duck occasionally which we liked a lot! Royal palms established the center huge well maintained grounds. Just blocks from the historical old Ft Myers. A beautiful and lovingly updated accommodation from 1946

Review 60:Clean, comfortable and enjoyed the patio in the cottages. Older place but acceptable if you are not looking for upscale. Must have been something in it's hay day - the 40's and 50's.

Review 61:Nothing.

Review 62:Everything! Rock Lake was the most beautiful little motel we've seen during our extensive roadtrips in the US. The room was super cosy and nice, with the white furniture, old fashioned fans, the little tile room numbers. the cottages are lovely and make you feel at home. we arrived late, and the staff left the key in an envelope sellotaped to the door, which was just so endearing. The surrouding area is very pretty. Would recommend to anyone.

Review 63:Only problem was I did not read the note that said we were on the end of the hot water run and to let the water run for 5-7 minutes. We had a problem with that because we live in a home with well water and you do not leave water run that long.

Review 64:The location......the location ......the location

Review 65:You have to maneuver to go the opposite direction because of one way Hwy 80

Review 66:The small stone cottages around the lake line with dolphin fountains.Very quiet

Review 67:Breakfast would have been nice. But, that's why they're efficiencies, right? ;-)

Review 68:The peace and tranquility of the atmosphere. Very friendy place. Loved watching the full moon from my patio with the sound of the fountains running in the background.

Review 69:No one there on our arrival, I called the number on the door and left a voice msg. I happened to notice an envelope in the mail box, it was addressed to me and my key was inside. I received a call back, and told about the key. Room was on motel side. It was overpriced but clean. Not the best of neighbourhoods.

Review 70:it was clean, quaint. We only needed a room for one night. I took this room as it being spring break, it seemed to be the best priced and reviews were ok.

Review 71:Cottages 1-12 & 17&18 had dividers on porches between the two sides - but 13-16 did not. We stayed in 13 but didnt have anyone beside us so it was still private for us, but I could see how that could feel weird.

Review 72:This was an easy & safe walk to downtown where there was a lot to do. The cottage was clean and well kept up. There were a few places that could have used a touch up with paint but it didn't change the comfort level. I could tell they were trying to do their best with upkeep on an older property. I loved sitting on our porch by the lake. Loved the sound of water from the fountains, the landscaping and the pool. The kitchen was well stocked - dishes, cups, pots and pans, coffee maker, silverware and cooking utensils.

Review 73:It was a very nice place for my Mom and I when visiting her friend. I was only a short walk from the car to our cottage . The covered porch was very nice to sit out and enjoy the pond with the dolphin fountains. Mom loved all the flowers in bloom. I was peaceful. The room size was nice for two people. Convenient to where we needed to go

Review 74:I thought all the rooms had a kitchenette and were on the water. Didn't like that the pool was on other side of road.

Review 75:The beds were comfortable and it was quiet.

Review 76:I have nothing bad to say about Rock Lake, but the neighborhood is run down. The resort can't fix that!

Review 77:Great arrangement of cabins and peaceful atmosphere. Clean, comfortable facility.

Review 78:there was no one at the reception after 8 pm when I arrived I had to pick my key from a letter box. In my opinion this is a severe security issue, anyone who knows this procedure can pick the key, open the room, bring it back and then wait for you within the room to do horrible things... Also in the morning there was no one at the reception, I wanted to check out at 0815 am and there was no one, I called via phone but nobody answers. So I stayed in this motel without seeing anyone...

Review 79:was clean

Review 80:didn't like that I had to walk across 3 lanes of highway to get to the ice machine and the facilities didn't like that I had a 14 inch TV in my room

Review 81:enjoyed the kayaking and the nature trail facilities we're very nice looking

Review 82:Our rooms were in a back alley away from everything but a wall and street noise. The rooms were like cinder block cells. There was only one very small window that we didn't open because of the location. There are two areas to this location. One across the street is nice looking cottages around a little lake. On our side of the street it was cinder block rooms on a busy road.

Review 83:The rooms were very clean

Review 84:Showers do run hot straight away but need to be run a fair while first. This is a minor problem and it's the only thing we could find wrong and it's only a minor problem

Review 85:The best one we found in Florida we stayed in the lakeside view

Review 86:The bed was comfortable, patio was relaxing and the grounds were extremely well cared for! I loved the path way and lights. This place is truly a gem gem, I will be coming back.

Review 87:We took a lakeside view first visit and changed the route of our road trip to allow a second stay for two nights Whoever gave this a two star rating could not count, this was the best place we stayed during our stay in Florida and we were paying up to 200 dollars a night. The lakeside view is well worth every penny and tha. Comfort and cleanliness cannot be faulted. We will book again!

Review 88:After hours planned arrical. The office is unattended. We were left our keys. There was no electricity in our room except for the AC -on a different circuit. We left 3 messages on 3..including the energency maintenance number. No one called us until after 7:30am. We had no alternative but to stay. Slept on the bed because we couldnt see anything. The staff was apologetic. The owner argued with me for almost an hour on the phone the next day after we checked out. She refused to give me a full refund because we used the room. We were given half. She threatened to take the half back if I gave her a bad review. This is not a person I would give business too or recommend. This place is unsafe at night.

Review 89:Nothing

Review 90:The grounds are split into two by SR80. The efficiency cabins, located around the small lake, are for longer stays only. Rooms 22 and 23, by the office, are quite noisy...it was a choice of a very loud fan or noisy traffic.

Review 91:Great value in an easy going hotel with very friendly and helpful staff, and good facilities. Very laid back, and a find.

Review 92:I travelled with my two daughters. We wanted a cottage on the lake so took a queen bed for them to share and a cot for me. The cot was HORRIBLE. It sunk in the middle and I could feel every spring.

Review 93:The natural feel of the cottage and the grounds.

Review 94:Nit-picky stuff:Very Old TVs; Room oddly smelled like soap, like it was masking something; Parking was tight. No WiFi password in the room. If you check in late don't plan on getting on the internet until they open in the morning.

Review 95:Beds were comfy Bathrooms were clean Easy to find

Review 96:Not a lot around the hotel for groceries or restaurants.

Review 97:The tennis courts ping pong table and canoeing was great activities to fill the day. Pool was quiet and clean. And it was fun watching the fish and turtles. Great little place.

Review 98:TV was old CRT type and screen was small. AC was loud - fortunately, we didn't need it that much as it was cool out.

Review 99:Room was comfortable. Fan on ceiling light worked fine. Fridge was nice. Swimming Pool across the street was nice. Pizza and beer place next door was good.

Review 100:Everything was great, no complaints.

Review 101:Cheap, clean, close to downtown Ft. Meyers. Of the economy hotels I've stayed at in the area, this was one of the best.

Review 102:First night in small room on street was noisy, minimalist and separated from pool, pond, ice etc. by a major traffic artery.

Review 103:Cottages were spacious, clean, comfortable

Review 104:There is way too much ambient light in the rooms. The doors and blinds need something to block the outside lights. I had to wear eyeshades to sleep properly.

Review 105:The value. The WiFi connection was excellent. The nature walk and kayak / canoe options were a nice bonus. No frills, but clean and functional.

Review 106:The grounds smelled like sewage. I thought we'd be in a cabin as pictured on-line, but instead we were in a room attached to the check-in area and very close to the road.

Review 107:I wish the mini fridge would've kept our items a little colder and the bed/pillows could've been comfier.

Review 108:We loved the porch on the pond. Staff was very friendly even let us check in early, everyday when we left for the day we came back with fresh towels and a made bed. the resort was located near downtown and we enjoyed going to the bars and restaurants there.

Review 109:Close the lower rent area, but may only be perceived as we had no problem.

Review 110:Friendly counter staff and clean room. We stayed on the average side of the complex...lakeside (across the road) looked nicer.

Review 111:Not in the best area, but we have never had a problem.

Review 112:This is not a 5 star hotel but we have stayed here for 3 years in a row. The pool is very nice and the rooms are very clean. Hotel staff were very nice and we have never had an issue. Love the cabins!

Review 113:This was not worth $150. It did the job done and it was a place to sleep. We didn't get a chance to use the facilities, but when watching people sit by the pool, all you hear is cars go by. I wouldn't call that being at a resort

Review 114:Easy check in and check out

Review 115:The water took a long time to get hot, but there was a note saying that would happen. The shower pressure wasn't good at all. A piece of lattice on each side of the porch would create better privacy.

Review 116:We loved the lakeside porch on the cottage.

Review 117:After staying at five different places in five years we will definitely stay at Rock Lake if we are able to go back in 2016. Staff was great; close enough to points of interest and major highways and restaurants. ro

Review 118:We got the room behing the reception. This wasn't looking at all like the photo's on the website of booking.com. Next to that there was a terrible noise out of the closet which turn out to be the main telephone base station....

Review 119:location

Review 120:Kitchen facilities are a bit tight but adequate and workable. Convoluted routes back to Rock Lake from the south, but you can't help what the street department lays out.

Review 121:Comfortable, well maintained, clean unit. Nice to have the sitting porch/patio, nature area, laundry, ice, and other facilities conveniently on the grounds. Central location, easy to reach attractions and activities. Good value.

Review 122:The area around the hotel is wonderful, if you need to find a street walker, or maybe buy some stolen goods. You and the kids may want to pack heat.

Review 123:The hotel cottage rooms had a nice kitchenette.

Review 124:We booked the reservation under the assumption that it would look like the picture advertised. It wasn't. We weren't even near a pool, we had to walk across a busy street. The bed felt like it was 2 beds pushed together & we kept rolling into the middle. I took a shower, walked across the floor & the bottom of my feet were black.

Review 125:If you stay in the hotel rooms is hard to find parking place at night (the hotel does not give parking stickers ).The rooms close to the street are very noisy with the traffic.

Review 126:I stay in hotel roomsThe location is good not too far form downtown.Nice the cottage area. You have access to the river (for kayak or canoe)The staff does not give information about the facility( Kayat use, about the cottage area,) only if your ask.

Review 127:Very noisy A/C unit made it difficult to sleep and was inefficient so you need the ceiling fan on as well.

Review 128:Parking near the hotel is convenient. We only stayed one night.

Review 129:Ads a little misleading. Lake and cabins across street from motel. Thought we'd be on the lake. Disappointed but price was good for Ft.Myers at spring break.

Review 130:Early check in and pleasant staff.

Review 131:The "resort" is located in the shady part of town. The place is not a "resort". It has two sections. The rooms across the street, where I was, are nothing more than cheap motels. The grounds across the street appear to be nicer, but I was not placed there. It was very disappointing. If you are looking for a cheap motel to stay in for the night, this is your place.

Review 132:The staff was friendly.

Review 133:The kitchenette consisted of a coffee pot and fridge, the dryers take forever to get your clothes dry after you wash them in the one hundred year old washer.. I got stuck in a room where the Internet or cable was based in my room. There was a loud clicking all night long to go with the fact that the tv sound was broken. Then when I complained to management they changed me more money than the original bill.. One of my worst experiences ever. If you can find a box under a bridge, take that over this place.

Review 134:The experience as a whole was very nice.

Review 135:Pictures must 20 years old because it is not looking that good now. Needs work, has bugs and all of the facilities other then the pool are in bad sharp or none functioning. Not in the best location.

Review 136:Nice pond and layout.
