Reviews for Hotel Nikko San Francisco
Review 1:Parking overnight was at a public sketchy but close location or pay $50 for their parking lot which we did for safety but felt it should've been included.
Review 2:Starbucks inside, comfortable bed, good location, good price
Review 3:None
Review 4:Friendly staff, very accomadating. The location of this hotel was excellent, two short blocks from union square. Great views of the city and the most comfortable bed!
Review 5:The staffs were the best. I left my purse with cash and check in it I n the restaurant, the manager called me and kept till I got there. Great to know honest and considerate people are still out there and Hotel Nikko staffs are the best example. Thumbs up!
Review 6:Although it is said that our room was non-smoking, it smelled like someone smoke in there earlier. They offered to send someone to blow the air. We did not want to go through hassle so we did not take the offer. If they would have offered another non-smoking room, we would have been happy.
Review 7:Location was great and the hotel had a nice atmosphere. The room was small but had a large grass window.
Review 8:No complimentary water. Small Room. But my major issue was the PAINFULLY slow internet... which I think is intentional so you can upgrade to the paid version. Checking my mail took forever and I pretty much gave up! Plus the number of devices are limited which was quite annoying since they managed to leave this detail out despite my personal visit to the hotel to make enquiries before booking. Had to make a case before that was lifted and that took a while. It was pointless though since the internet access was pretty much non existent and I felt cheated. They really should take out "free wifi" as a selling point. The funny thing is I would have paid for it because the hotel was nice but I refused to upgrade as a matter of principle. Was unable to do any tangible work in the days I spent there. Starbucks in the building (which was another selling point for us) also provided an extremely slowwwwww service. Had to wait for ages and the worst part was the fact that I was given the wrong order. What he gave me was definitely not a peppermint mocha and I only discovered after I had left the building! I doubt I'll stay here again.
Review 9:Location, friendly staff. The restaurant was pretty nice.
Review 10:I wasn't provided a copy of the hotel's charges so I got confused andI had to contact the Hotel staff days after. Charges were correct.
Review 11:Staff is very courteous, hotel's ambiance comfortable and international. There were people from around the world, very nice
Review 12:Lack of apparent security in the hotel. Anybody can access the room floors at any time.
Review 13:Great location, comfortable and well equipped rooms, good enough free internet
Review 14:$15 fee for gym over entire stay is relatively cheap - should be included in price, as in other hotels. Was not informed of this at the time of booking.
Review 15:Rooms were excellent, bed was very comfortable. Great location.
Review 16:High pressure when checking in to upgrade for an extra $100.00 After refusing price went down to an extra $80.00 which included the worst breakfast we've ever had. No ventilation in room and fan didn't work. HOT and STUFFY. VERY small shower in a large bathroom ( made no sense ). Closet doors were useless, jammed on rails. No room for our two suitcases. Hotel layout was confusing and inconvenient. Couldn't wait to check out in am. Ruined our intimate get away.
Review 17:Nice city view but not worth the cost.
Review 18:I liked everything.
Review 19:The service was of the highest caliber -Not just being called by my name, which was pleasant, but also the entire staff's enthusiastic desire to make my stay enjoyable. This includes the luggage handlers, the front desk, the cleaning staff and the wonderful restaurant.
Review 20:At check we were given the wrong room card. The card handed to me at check in included a free breakfast and use the hotel recreation center. Then they took it away from me! Ooops! Akward! Not the best way to start our stay. :-(
Review 21:I had to call to remind them to clean the room several times. Check out time was too early at 11am. I think a 1pm checkout for 50$ is steep.
Review 22:Staff was courteous and accommodating. Doorman was pleasant and bell was professional and pleasant. Location was good and the hotel was clean and well maintained.
Review 23:1. We have not been informed prior to our arrival that 500 USD will be blocked as a warranty and the amount will be released within 10 days after check out. It is not acceptable to play with our money. It is a practice that we never met in Europe or New York for example. It made us feel very uncomfortable. 2. We payed 400 USD extra to have a room with 2 queen size beds and our friends have been upgraded at arrival to this kind of room for 100 USD. No comments ! 3. We have been asked to pay 6 USD a bottle of water from minibar just because we touched it ! Not use it ! It has been told to us that it has a sensor and if you touch it it you have to pay it. Again no comment.
Review 24:Very good location. Professional but impersonal staff Nice gym and SPA Breakfast good at ANZU Security OK Clean rooms Nice view from the top floors
Review 25:Too many fees. Not the best nieborhood at night. Close proximity to the tenderloin.
Review 26:Excellent views from the room. Close to market street and Bart. Quiet room and hotel.
Review 27:Comments we wrote in the Booking.com hasn't been applied to the hotel. They didn't prepare an extra bed so we had to wait to change the room. But the stuff didn't say a ward to apologize and the attitude was so bad. Except the person, the workers at the hotel were excellent.
Review 28:Japanese style of service was fabulous. They willingly did good services considering the guests' points of views.
Review 29:It would be very much appreciated if at least provide drinking water bottle in the room... at least first two bottle without charge. It's very sad after paying this much money, a guest who comes in from travel have to pay for one glass of water..
Review 30:Great service
Review 31:Told no upgrade rooms available but then got two rooms upgraded by another hotel staff. Billing is confusing with lots of stupid charges (internet) later reversed. Hotel shows lots of wear and tear in the rooms.
Review 32:Good breakfast
Review 33:Prior to coming to Hotel Nikko I was hit by a car in Scottsdale and hospitalized for 4 days your hotel made everything so much easier with its handicapped rooms and access for the handicapped thank you so much
Review 34:The room was very small, no frills just a bath room (without a bath) and a very small bedroom with absolutely no view. Everything about the place you have to pay extra for. Such as water, use of the exercise equipment, pool, etc. Parking is $50, across the street it is $35 for parking.
Review 35:location
Review 36:So glad we upgraded to the tower rooms. We really enjoyed the view, the complimentary wine and cheese and the buffet breakfast. What a wonderful place to spend a few days in SF!
Review 37:The buffet breakfast had dropped in standard. The choices were limited and the hot food was often cold. I would skip the hotel buffet and go eat somewhere else. Lots of great choices close by. We had breakfast twice in the hotel, same both days. Disappointing!
Review 38:Staff are wonderful, kind and helpful
Review 39:From the wonderful lady who we checked-in with, the sunny and clean king room, the comfortable bed, and terrific room service, we couldn't have had a nicer stay in San Francisco. We live in the bay area and were spending two days in SF, and it was truly a holiday for us. With appreciation.
Review 40:The only minor issue which is no fault to the hotel was I should of upgrade the room to higher level, so we will certainly enjoy it more with a perfect view of the city.
Review 41:Everyone from the hotel facilities were friendly and professional. Location of the hotel was perfect, access to many activities were very easy.
Review 42:A bit on the pricey side, but that's San Francisco for you.
Review 43:The location was close to many shops, stores, restaurants and the transit system including the cable cars, BART and Muni street cars.
Review 44:Internet speed was disappointment for basic service. High speed internet should be a must like electricity and water.
Review 45:Friendly service, nice restaurant, good location and comfortable bads. Good value for money.
Review 46:We have nothing bad to say about our stay.
Review 47:Our stay was wonderful. The whole staff went above and beyond for my Wife and I. I would highly recommend staying at the Nikko Hotel you can't go wrong. I can go on and on about how wonderful our staff was.
Review 48:Reception were unhelpful and wouldn't assist when trying to checkout and use wifi. It disconnected early and we were unable to book an Uber to the airport. They didn't explain the gym wasn't included in the price of the room - $15 per use is expensive given the price of the room originally.
Review 49:The room was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. The concierge were friendly and lovely.
Review 50:Besides being near BART, the location is otherwise not so great because it is not the safest part of SF. Although there are many more dangerous drugs in use in the area, if you're not a fan of marijuana, you're in the wrong place. We even smelled it on the 11th floor. The fitness center might have been closed, or we might have been denied access with our cards because we didn't pay for it, but if that was the case, it was not clearly communicated during check-in. Finally, you should be aware that if you take a drink from the mini-bar, it automatically bills you. I suppose we're a bit unsophisticated to be unaware of these new developments in mini-bar technology.
Review 51:Clean and quiet and more than what you'd expect from a hotel at this location and at this price (that is, with our discounted price from booking.com, perhaps not the standard price). The young man who checked us in was kind and helpful in answering a few questions that we had about the area. From the standpoint of being within a short walk's distance from BART, the location was very good. The few staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful; the person at the front desk was very understanding about the mini-bar confusion (as described in the "downsides" section), and we did not have to pay. Apparently the same thing had happened to him in New York and the staff at that hotel were not so lenient...
Review 52:This is a modern hotel of contemporary design in a good location near Union Square and shopping. Walking distance from the Powell Street BART station. Hotel staff were very professional.
Review 53:Not all that thrilled with very mediocre facility and service and premium rate. Pool was not open and no attempt to compensate with small gestures
Review 54:Location was great
Review 55:Sad how the homeless problem has gotten so bad in sf. A bit moresecurity outside of hotel, deter aggressive people.
Review 56:Staf, room was great, bathroom/shower, food, sauna/steam,comfort
Review 57:My only complaint was the price of parking ($50) but that is consistent with all hotels in the area.
Review 58:Overall, a really enjoyable stay - the room was a good size (king deluxe) with a very spacious bathroom. Extremely clean room, and a nice view of Macy's from our 12th floor window. Friendly, efficient staff - front desk clerk Jasmine was welcoming, and the valet and bell hops were quick, polite and helpful. Starbucks (real one) in the hotel, very pretty lobby decorated with a Christmas tree. The hotel is right in Union Square (5 min walk to Square) and tons of bars, restaurants and shops - great place to stay in SF. We didn't have drinks/food there because our stay was short but hopefully we'll be back again soon. My only complaint was the price of parking ($50) but that is consistent with all hotels in the area. We will be back.
Review 59:The web site for room reservations is confusing. They say the offer thus great rate but in truth that rate is not available. Also I am a business man I asked for a late check out from 12 to 1 because Ibwas in a meeting. I was told no and if I was 30 minutes late it was $100 and the later you went the more it was. I am a business traveler helping me out by giving me an hour should be common sense that a fine. Nice hotel stop nickel and diming your customers.
Review 60:The bathrooms and rooms were nice and clean.
Review 61:I got married the day before l arrived at Hotel Nikko and on telling the check in staff when we got to our room there was a card to congratulate myself and my new wife on our marriage which blew us both away. Really nice and personal touch. The hotel is perfect, located near Powell Station and Union Square. When I return to San Francisco l would stay here again
Review 62:The heating system was very noisy and the shower temperature was hard to regulate. It would have been nice to have an extra blanket to put on the bed.
Review 63:The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The bed was very comfortable. The location is great.
Review 64:The furniture has little scratches but Still not complaining.
Review 65:The staff was super feeindly, immediate responces, smiling and welcoming all the time. The hotel is so clean in a very good location.the big bus tours stop is infront of the hotel which was great for me.
Review 66:Wow it was our anniversary we were met by mrs and Santa claus. They asked what we wanted for Christmas we need nothing and when Mrs. Claus found out it was our anniversary she said you should ask for a suite we laughed, they said they could do that! They did , they remembered our name as we came and went. The Restaraunt was fabulous, it will b our new tradition. They treated us with champagne and chocolate strawberries and more champagne waited in our room!
Review 67:i was never informed the pool was going to be closed to construction. As well they booked me in a room right above the construction, I woke up from the noise fairly early. The room I was given shouldn't have been sold to me. I called the front desk to try and make my visit worth my money I was spending to have a nice stay. The manager didn't seem to care and only offered an hour later check out. (Which they will do for any guest regardless of being woken by construction.) Overall there was a lack of concern for how I felt as a guest and a lack of care that they would be booking a room that was on obviously not going to be peaceful for any guest.
Review 68:Aside from the cleanliness and kindness of the bell hops the only other things that were exceptional were the bed and shower.
Review 69:Nothing
Review 70:I have stated many four and five star hotels this is one of the finest I've ever stayed at the staff me the hotel excellent the staff was great room service to cleaning to any request was done promptly
Review 71:Fee charged for receiving a package I had delivered. Not the most comfortable bed.
Review 72:Friendly staff. Good room service options. Never had to wait long for a lift.
Review 73:Small bed, not very comfortable, view was terrible
Review 74:Hotel is located in center of San Francisco, just 2-3 minute walk from Union Sqare. Clean, nice decorated room.
Review 75:I loved everything about it. The view was amazing the bed was so comfortable the restroom was lovely. Couldn't have asked for more it was better than what I was expecting.
Review 76:I liked many things, but most of all, I truly appreciated the customer service and compassion when I needed to cut my trip short due to a family emergency. Jose, and the front desk staff kindly managed the situation professionally.
Review 77:There was a small brownish stain on our sheets. Pool was closed for renovations. We were told that the bar closed at 1am, but it closed at 1130. Per bartender, bar closes early when customer flow is light.
Review 78:Staff at concierge desk and vallet staff were friendly and quick.
Review 79:A lot of homeless people in the streets but that was EVERYWHERE!
Review 80:I upgraded to the concierge floor and felt safe and enjoyed the evening happy hours and the continental breakfasts.
Review 81:The shower was terrible. No water pressure, and the shower head was too small. The shower itself was huge, so the plumbing and fixture made no sense! For the price of the room and the overall status of the hotel, I felt this wasnt okay and it's kind of important.
Review 82:Beautiful hotel. Room was nice, designed nice, heat and a/c unit was very quiet. Bed was super comfortable. View was lovely and staff were great!
Review 83:Room and view were great! However, at time of checkin they could not give us two rooms on the same floor but offered two standard queens, suggesting we contact you for any refund for the smaller rooms. Then we found out, after going to those rooms that they would be considerably more expensive, rather than less. However, Booking.,com must have made a difference because somehow they "found" us two adjacent deluxe king rooms with great views for the original rate we had booked. Needless to say, we were quite satisfied in the end!
Review 84:We also chose the hotel because of the pool and spa, but it turned out that the pool is being renovated and will only open again in spring 2016. A bit disappointing for us. Although we stayed at the hotel twice in a row within less than a week (we toured California and the start and end points of our tour were San Francisco), the staff at checkin turned out to be quite unflexible as far as a possible upgrade, late checkout etc. were concerned. They were kind, but nothing more - professional, but routined, like in many "big" hotels. We have experienced much warmer welcomes in other hotels during our trip.
Review 85:The location is great, although a bit noisy in the evenings and early mornings, as in the middle of everthing (very central). Breakfast is great (both american and japanese, but also continental available). Excellent choice for the price. Also the hotel restaurant ANZU is excellent!
Review 86:The charge for valet parking. Too high. . . Had to go elsewhere where we saved nearly $20.
Review 87:The Japanese flavor or the decor - rooms & lobby. Simplicity at its best!
Review 88:View was not good it was the side of another building. I was very disappointed we booked this hotel for our engagement trip. They should not advertise a view if the room is only looking at the building next door.
Review 89:Bathroom was great. Staff was very friendly.
Review 90:The wifi and internet access is terrible. The high speed internet is so expensive and have limitations. You can only access the high speed internet by two devices. Besides, the free wifi is slow and can be accessed by four devices
Review 91:Parking costs $50 extra, wifi costs extra, no microwave in king deluxe room. The king sized deluxe room was also quite small and the bed seemed more like a full sized bed.
Review 92:Overall, the hotel was quite pretty and right in the middle of Union Square.
Review 93:The breakfast is expensive. You can go to any diner and eat for half the price
Review 94:The hotel is very good. Next visit to SF we will definitely stay there again
Review 95:Cheap toilet paper and tissues. They need a magnifying mirror in the bathroom
Review 96:Location was great, very close to union square, shops and bart. Starbucks in the lobby area. The shower was huge and the sink modern.
Review 97:I did not like that when we arrived at the hotel, we discovered that our "rate" was a base rate, and that if we wanted breakfast, use of the workout center, or upgraded wifi, it would be 67.00 extra, on top of the 57.00 to park the car!
Review 98:The hotel was very nice, and I loved the bathroom. Very nice hotel.
Review 99:Location , Staff, Cleanliness. I've stayed a this hotel a number of times, and have found it to be consistently a quality property to stay at. Can be very expensive, but also has some good deals. I stayed for 8 nights and found it to be convenient to everything, being near the cable car line, and the Powell Bart/Muni station. Also on the doorstep for resturants and shopping . I would definitely return here.
Review 100:It would be nice if there was a menu explaining the contents of the snacks at the wine and cheese reception. This is important for people with nuts and seafood allergies.
Review 101:The room was great and had a luxurious feel. I liked that there was a shower and a bath. I like that there was a weight scale in the bathroom. The breakfast was very good. It was nice to see what a breakfast from Japan is like. The wine and cheese reception was also very good.
Review 102:No complimentary still water. Since it is in the center of downtown, there are few homeless asking for money in front the hotel
Review 103:Location, closed to tram station, shopping mall, union square
Review 104:Hotel was beautiful, my package was not honeyed when I checked out, when I checked in it was all okay furl at front desk said yes you get free parking for your 2 day stay, instead of choosing complimentary continental breakfast. When checking out girl at desk said no your paying for parking don't care what was said at check in and charged me! Ridiculous, that was the horrible experience, just guest was not right, she was!!! Un excusable!!!
Review 105:Hotel is anazing!!!
Review 106:Breakfast was expensive so I didn't get it and was happy with my decision, lots of places to go around the area!
Review 107:Amazing location, within walking distance of union square, trolly cars and about a 40 min Walk to the pier. The room was huge (a delux) bed very comfortable and all in all I would definitely stay again!
Review 108:Pool was clised for renovation. Will reopen in spring 2016!
Review 109:The location is excellent. Right in the muddle of everything. Room was small but just right, very clean and the breakfast good!
Review 110:Fees for parking which was 57$ plus tax There were a public parking neer to the hotile and fees was 35$
Review 111:Location of the hotile , the check in was very smooth , the front desk staff were incredible I strongly recommended
Review 112:staff didn't have our reservation in their system for some reason even though it had been pre-paid with booking.com - they were a bit awkward about it in check in and made us wait while they found it - seemed just a bit young and inexperienced. otherwise they were fine and nice enough.
Review 113:beds were very comfortable, rooms were well equipped and clean and view was great location is convenient
Review 114:I paid for 4 people on your web-site and when I arrived the hotel wanted to charge an additional amount. They said Booking.com was to notify me of this charge. I asked to see the manager and requested for parking and my reservation to be cancelled since I would go to another hotel. They did not charge the additional fee and provided a continental breakfast, but it wasn't worth the extended delay in processing.
Review 115:Convenient location.
Review 116:The location is excellent! I loved Anzu- their Japanese restaurant for top quality fresh nigiri and sashimi- I had Tuna toro, hamachi toro and salmon toro (different days and depending on the best cut of the day). I had booked via a special offer but when a colleague needed to bunk in, they allowed us to upgrade to a 2 bed- room on a small charge. Loved this place.
Review 117:The location was a bit sketchy after dark, so I wouldn't recommend venturing out after dark on your own.
Review 118:The staff and the hotel condition was wonderful, always willing to help out, and the dining facilities were delicious! A great hotel!
Review 119:Staff at front desk a little snobby. Pre check in on line is nice but more of a convenience for the staff since u wait in the same slow line to check in.
Review 120:Beautiful building w nice restaurants and pretty lobby, nice room
Review 121:Beware of parking: on their website, it states that parking is $45 for compact car and $50 for oversized car. They charged us $68 to park our oversized car and when we booked on booking.com there was no mention that there was a $50 charge to bring our dog. Very misleading! Our "city view" was of a rooftop of the building next to us.
Review 122:The initial price was okay. Location was good.
Review 123:Cost of overnight parking for guests was horrendous. Guests should get a decent discount for their vehicles. $50 + TAX is very expensive. This effects my choice for future stays.
Review 124:Overall, nice stay
Review 125:$700 / night for a room, and WiFi is extra? Yes, a basic connection is available, however it is not useful if work related connections are required. Business Center at $15 / MINUTE!
Review 126:Extremely courtesy staff; location of hotel
Review 127:nothing, this is an excellent hotel that I will be visiting again
Review 128:Staff was friendly and helpful. Good check in and was able to get to our room a bit early. Great beds and linens and good service through out our stay.
Review 129:The price of the parking was a little too much for us staying 3 nights
Review 130:Everything! Service was great everyone was very friendly and polite. Location was awesome right next to union square, walking distance to China town and just a cable car ride away from fisherman's wharf! Very clean and very comfy!!
Review 131:chest of draws in the bedroom were full of small bugs, but was cleaned immediately. we would have liked a room on a higher floor. we were on the 14th and looked at a garage across the street.
Review 132:the location is the best in SF
Review 133:Although the hotel is great, it's quite pricy. Wish it were not so expensive.
Review 134:Location is superb - close to everything. Several dining options in the hotel. Starbucks on the ground floor opening at 5am is salvation if you need early breakfast. Room service is good and quick. Overall very clean with great service.
Review 135:The room we ended up booking was on one of the top 3 floors which were the nicest rooms. Had we been drinkers we would have taken them up on the wine that they offered. Beautiful view. Close to union square.
