Review 1：The room was basic. Poor ventilation. The bathroom inconvenient having to step down from the bedroom into the bathroom. May not be suitable for people with unsteady knees.

Review 3：some advice, no real complains: - stones in the water at the beach but if you go 5 mintues at the beach there will ne less stones but that is not the hotels fault - no activities around, so just hire a scooter for 250b - don't come if you don't like dogs - ATM only at 7eleven (10 min walk) - hard matress (typical in Thailand)

Review 5：Although not the direct responsibility of the Montalay Resort the beach in front of the 3 or 4 resorts in Tanote Bay need to be kept cleaner. In one snorkeling swim we collected numerous plastic bags and bottles from the sea and also a lot of rubbish off the beach. Each resort really should take care of the beach and beautiful ocean that is their main attraction.
Review 6：The Tanote bay where montalay is located is by far the best snorkeling spot on Koh Tao, the pool and other facilities are great as is the food. The cottages are small but comfortable and really clean and thus fantastic value for money. The staff are all amazing and always offered a friendly smile and helped more than expected. Overall a fantastic place to spend some time snorkeling relaxing and suntanning!
Review 7：In addition to a beautiful location, quite and easy, I found 2 aspects that really surprised me: 1) The staff is very kind and I live my time involved in their life, I had fun with them staying in the resort. 2) As italian, I'm devoted to the cuisine, and I found a natural and very good cuisine, always fresh ingredients and good service. They work as a family, I liked it.
Review 8：The hotel is very isolated. Even for Christmas there was nothing to do. The beach has stones and is very small. Humidity is high and nothing dries. Our towels smelled and were not changed.

Taxi ordered by hotel to pier was 500 baht, really way too much, but there are few buses and you cant really bargain. When we were outraged, that the taxi costs as much as terry toKoh Tao, manager just laughed in out face. Overall, the worst accommodation in Thailand.

Review 20：The food in the restaurant is below average , sorry I eat in many Thai restaurants and they have to do a bigger effort. 5 min down the road Bang po restaurant same prices 10 times better food. Staff is polite but not friendly : English it's horrible and they don't try to understand or help, first answer is no. If they just improve their english ( english is not my mother tongue but it's the international language in the hotel industry ) communication would be easier and less frustrating for both sides. Management need to invest in some staff training and fix some bungalows issues : the shower wasn't working properly in room number 5, fresh paint the bungalows , sign post old and broken ,garden untidy ...and full of staff doing nothing around the hotel , just sitting in the customers areas sleeping ! This place can be magic if the do something about it.

It would be nice to have a small table near the sleeping place as there is only a bed on the floor and I needed put my things on the floor near it.
Review 38：The Resort is located very close to Ban Tai beach, so it is possible swim at the one of the picturesque beaches of the island. The Resort is organized in eco-friendly style. There are a lot of trees and other plants on the territory. There is a small terrace where you could stay and talk and surf through the internet.

Review 49：Great location - bungalows are right on the beach. Very silent part of the Island. 7elevn is located around 500-700meteres from there. Big street markets are 15-20 minutes driving by motorbike or songthaew. There live adorable dogs, that like to swim with people or even kayaking (btw there are two free kayaks). In general I would recommend this budget resort everyone.
Review 50：Clean, cosy bungalows with bathrooms and A/C. Very tasty food (breakfast, dinner, drinks) in the bar on the beach. Great massage on the beach. Beach was clean and quite narrow, but at the same time was perfectly empty! People were very helpful and friendly. I can fully recommend this place!

Review 52：The rooms very old and facilities inside are weared and cry for major renovation. I booked this place for myself and my friend and I was embarrassed to see how poor the condition of rooms is. The bathrooms was especially run-down. It's a cheap place so you kinda expect it to be basic, but the actual condition of rooms is far behind one's expectations. But in general the whole place around is very nice and the staff is very helpful and welcoming. So we decided to stay on the positive side and didn't pay attention to lack of comfort. We jokingly called it "our bum beach resort" =)
Review 53：The location of "By Beach" is perfect for those who seek to spend a few nights right beside the seaside and not spend a fortune. We had a beachfront connection room. Room "with terrace" is better as thus you have better sea view. The staff is super friendly and we really appreciated that they allowed us to stay in one of the rooms till 4 pm (we had a boat at 5) even though check out time is normally 12-00. You can take a long walk the beach to the left about 2 kilometers for one of the best seafood cuisine on the island (local thai style cafes of which I would recommend Bang Por Seafood).

Review 55：My brother went for the cheapest room and he was really happy - you get what you pay for and it was basic but good. The location was fantastic and the food was incredible with hilariously friendly staff. What was also brilliant is the beach is very quiet with the best sunset and views of the other islands. Even better was the free use of the 2 sea kayaks. My brother said the wifi was the best of all the places he stayed too.
Review 56：We booked a bungalow with a fan. When we arrived fan was broken, heat was unbearable in the room. Luckily we complained and they gave us a 2nd fan but still very hot. No fridge or kettle in room. Paid too much money considering how basic the room was. Our room was not cleaned in 5 days, despite being told it would be cleaned every other day. bugs everywhere. Food wasnt great and overpriced. It's very far away from everything, no resturants or shops around. No pool. Only 4 sunbeds on the beach which were usually taken. Wouldn't come back here again.

Review 58：The sea itself is quite rocky.. You have a choice of either bathing in the shallow waters, or fighting your way through the reef line to enjoy some depth. The nice thing is that the hotel has kayaks that you can use for free.

The staff is helpful and are happy to give you some options if you want to get something outside of the hotel even of the hotel provides the services you need. The rooms are spacy and don't get really heated during the day, so the fan is usually enough. If I would ever go to samui again, I would definitely stay at this place again! Thanks a lot)

You just need to open your bungalow door and you can see the beach! The restaurant is very cosy and you eat with a fantastic sea view - the food was really good though the portions are not too big (still it was fine for us)! The staff is very friendly and helpful and their dogs sweeten your stay there too!! The location is great if u want to relax from busy cities as you won't find many restaurants etc in the hotel's surroundings. We can definitely recommend a stay at the by beach resort and will definitely come back!!

Review 75：My daughters bungalow had a mattress on the floor and was a serious mould issue. She was bitten at night and the room and bathroom was unbearably musty smell. It was awful! Not worth paying for at all. Avoid number 1 bungalow.
Review 76：I rented two bungalows for myself and daughter. Mine was good with a full size bed and value for money. Nice decoration. My bungalow 2 was fine. The staff were really great. Food was good and the best Mojitos I ever had!! Food and drinks were presented beautifully.
Review 77：They only had four sunbeds - and these were always occupied. In addition, they were placed just by the restaurant so it felt a little wierd laying in a bikini with people eating some feets away. I took my towel and layed on the beach instead. The curtains in my bungalow was a bit too transparent in my opinion. You felt a bit exposed. The bathroom in my bungalow was the only thing that felt budget about the hotel. It needs a renovation. The pressure in the shower was bad. Some of the dishes in the restaurant were bad. I ordered noodles one day and it was just a lump of pasta basically, and the beef-quality was really bad. Order chicken dishes instead, the chicken burger and the green curry soup is lovely.
Review 78：Beautiful bungalows, picturesque garden and seaside restaurant. Lovely staff - perhaps not the most proffesional - they will treat you like friends rather than guests. One day I needed to go to a pharmacy a couple of km away, and they offered me to borrow one of the scooters for free. Lovely place. The beach is fantastic. I would recommend anyone to stay here.
Review 79：The wifi cut out for a couple of days, but we went down the beach to a bar which had wifi. There isn't a huge amount to do other than completely relax and chill, so if you want to party all night and shop all day this isn't the place for you. The sea cut me.

The staff in the restaurant were lovely as was the receptionist/ manager. The resort away from the main touristy beach, which after visiting Chaweng we decided was a good thing and the prices at Bybeach were amazing in comparison.

But this was not an issue - biggest problem was when we wanted to pay and they said that we need to pay 750 bahts for food?? Apparently someone ate in the restaurant and said he sleeps in our room. The staff didn't apology properly so we left with a bit bitter taste from this place.

Review 85：I am not that sort of person to expect a five star service at 90£ for 6 nights. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, it's location is about a 40min drive from chawengs center but the lonely beach is stunning and worth the drive. The beachhuts are simple but clean. suggested for young couples and solo travellers/backpackers. it's quiet and beautiful. you won't get a memory foam mattress or egyptian silk bedding, but you'll get an amazing strawberry daiquiri.

Review 91：I arrived after 9am on June 6th, 2014 , I believe. I was greeted and asked if I had eaten dinner already. When I answered no, they told me that the kitchen had just closed, but that they would open it up again so I could order something to eat. They were extremely friendly and courteous my entire stay, and made me feel extremely welcome. I hung out with the bar staff for a while on the night I arrived, and they were very warm and welcoming; they even taught me a few key Thai phrases while I was there, which helped out greatly once I began exploring Koh Samui. The resort is literally right on the beach. The restaurant and bar have a fantastic view of the ocean, and the food and drinks weren't bad either. If you're interested in a loud party environment, then this resort is definitely not for you. Although I'm 24 years old, I wasn't really interested in all that; I just wanted a quiet place with a beach view to relax and not be bothered for a weekend. This place definitely delivered! I will definitely stay here again whenever I return to Koh Samui.
