Reviews for Cova Hotel

Review 1:Not a great location and parking expensive. I have rung a number of times on the advertised number and the phone rings out. I am still waiting for my security deposit to be paid back into my account after a week. Not happy !!!

Review 2:Rooms were clean but no fridge in the 2 double bed room.

Review 3:I didn't care for the homeless people around the blocks of the hotel, but considering your in down town what do you expect.

Review 4:Loved that the doors in the room making the balcony available to stand on. The terrace on the top of the hotel has an amazing view. The restaurant had good food. Rooms were great! 10 Minute walk from union square as well.

Review 5:The parking situation was not the best. Our room was above the valet and although there was a sign that said something about being quiet and respecting the residents or whatever I heard him all night.

Review 6:Free shuttle to fisherman's wharf, union square and Japnese town (didn't go here though).

Review 7:Location was very unfortunate especially when we walked from and to the hotel to many of the places we were going. The shuttle times didn't always suit (it runs every two to three hours in the day) and you need to book at least 30mins before. Too many homeless people milling around the area and it felt a bit unsafe at times especially with a young child.

Review 8:It was clean. Bathroom was clean and big.

Review 9:Our TV was cut-off at 9 AM even though the check out time is 12:00 noon. I really don't know if this was intentional because it is our last day.

Review 10:Very polite, helpful, and accommodating staff.

Review 11:Location. As soon as you step out of the hotel you find people sleeping on the street and going to the bathroom right there. It was not only unpleasant. I didn't feel safe day or night.

Review 12:Nothing, I had to check out earlier than what I had planned due to unpleasant surroundings.

Review 13:The breakfast was the same every day. The breakfast wasn't what it showed on line

Review 14:The employees were very friendly. Great to have free shuttle to locations. Hotel room was very clean.

Review 15:Undercover parking was not included and it tight on space. We stayed Halloween night and were on the 7th floor; super loud all night and then the sounds of cleanup noises early am were very irritating.

Review 16:Comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, nice furniture, good breakfast.

Review 17:No A/C and the area isn't great but nothing an uber can't solve.

Review 18:The staff, the hotel itself including the rooms and patio, restaurant were great! Enjoyed the snack tray and continental breakfast. Would stay here again.

Review 19:We went at a peak period and cost was absurdly high for this level of hotel. That's San Francisco these days. Breakfast may be included, but was pretty cursory effort. Not even a toaster for the bread. I stayed a couple of years ago and the breakfast was okay. Room housekeeping also variable on this trip.

Review 20:Good location, even with well known Tenderloin street issues.

Review 21:The hotel is situated in a bit of a sketchy neighborhood. It is to approach it via Hyde street rather than Ellis street.

Review 22:Both the rooms themselves and the hotel overall were modern, clean, and well maintained. The staff was helpful and cheery.

Review 23:The area/ location is very dirty and feels dangererous when walking with many homeless people-although we never ran into an issue

Review 24:The bed was wonderful!

Review 25:Breakfast was an absolute waste, we only ate there the first morning. Bread that you had to ask staff to toast for you (which took half an hour) and plastic wrapped apples and oranges. Overall Cova is pretty pricey for what you get, but SF is an expensive city.

Review 26:Room was big enough, great bathroom, bed was very comfortable.

Review 27:No need to complain about homelessness, that has nothing to do with the business. Thats SF for you..as sad as it is

Review 28:The Proximity to get around SF was perfect....The room was clean and didnt feel dated...Bed was super comfortable...Balcony is not a real balcony but allows fresh SF - non street level air in your room...Terrace is a super plus. I would stay here again if I came back to SF for sure...great price for what you get!

Review 29:Neighbourhood was full of homeless people, no space to store clothes in room

Review 30:Very friendly staff, breakfast was fine, WiFi worked very good, clean room

Review 31:We were uncomfortable strolling the neighborhood around the hotel, but the shuttle service made the issue disappear!

Review 32:The staff were friendly and accommodating. The shuttle service was a fabulous bonus!

Review 33:There are so much homeless on the hotel way.

Review 34:Free wifi Breakfast Free shuttle (but you have to sign and evenif you sign they can forget to pick you up)

Review 35:I visit San Francisco at least 2 times a year and stay in various locations(financial, union, wharf & mission district). The only negative was the amount of homeless people we witnessed they did not bother anyone but when your a single female senior it was a bit scary.

Review 36:Beds were so wonderful, rooms very clean & nice. Breakfast was great European style w/american flare. Location great walking distane to civic center buildings, Asian museum & Japanese town.Great Vietnamese restaurants 1/2 block.

Review 37:The area . Not a great section of the city Breakfast was very average

Review 38:Staff were fabulous and the hotel was very clean and tidy. Housekeeping was great

Review 39:I booked for the hop on hop off bus with one of the Reception staff. It was more expensive than the similar one and similar company if booked from Union Square. I tried to cancel the booking done through the hotel and get my deposit back. I was informed from the Receptionist that the lady from the agency refused which I hardly believed because as far as I know you can cancel the booking and get your money back. Though this person was very nice and helpful but I didn't believe what was said to me.

Review 40:Excellent location and nice helpful staff.

Review 41:The location was close to the popular attractions, but downtown in a dirty area. The bed was hard. The breakfast was a joke and very unappetizing. Nasty looking brown stains on the ceiling of hotel room when we checked in.

Review 42:The staff was very pleasant.

Review 43:Had to walk extra distance to go around homeless folks. Was close enough to Union Square but two blocks walked to avoid the hordes. No meals on a Sunday or Monday night. Was closed.

Review 44:Free shuttle service and helpful staff. Room was nice. Free WiFi but intermittent. Laundry service was good.

Review 45:Location very eerriiee lots of dangerous looking people on the street couldn't get out of the hotel post 7 pm that's sad

Review 46:The bristo food was good

Review 47:Toilet in #311 wouldn't flush right and maintenance man couldn't fix it. Not a very professional person.A

Review 48:The desk person by the name of Latoya made our stay wonderful in dealing with an issue. Housekeepers were very thorough and great.

Review 49:We had no idea this was just 2 blocks from the worst place i've ever seen. We were stopped by firemen and instructed not to walk any further toward downtown. It was warm in our room and there wasn't A/C. Opening the sliding door was our only option but there wasn't a screen on it. Breakfast was disappointing to say the least.

Review 50:The place was decent. Situated right next to a very friendly, safe parking garage with excellent staffers.

Review 51:The location wasnt the greatest, the price of the parking exorbitant, the additional cost of the bar fridge was an unexpected thing. The shower head was broken.

Review 52:The staff were amazing, the beds comfortable.

Review 53:it was really noisy outside at 2:00 am and 6:00 am. The walls are very thin. I could hear the mumble on normal conversation in the next room. The neighborhood is full of homeless people. Very sketchy area. Not safe at night

Review 54:nice staff and it seem to have good security. Hopefully the neighborhood will turn and the new owners with continue to invest in the property.

Review 55:The hotel is located in a neighborhood with MANY homeless people and people who are on something (drunk/drugs), but it is possible to walk away from it on okay streets.

Review 56:I like the rooms and the facilities in the room

Review 57:The breakfast was more basic than we'd like, even for the value, same every morning. We tipped for the staff, not the food!

Review 58:All staff were extremely courteous and helpful at all times. We are second time visitors, from NZ, to the USA and have both times found the people to be wonderful!

Review 59:I requested handicap and my husband could not use the shower because he could not raise his leg over the bathtub. Their are no thermostats to regulate the temperature. I've never been in a hotel room without that! The rugs were stained and the website made it appear better than what it was. I'm still a Marriott 's fan.

Review 60:The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly and very helpful.

Review 61:Not the best location and lacked a few amenities, like no pool and not a great selection for breakfast.

Review 62:Staff was super friendly and helpful. Free shuttles was nice.

Review 63:The maid service was poor. Every day we had to ask for things they forgot: towels, coffee, shampoo, etc.

Review 64:The front desk staff were amazing and very helpful.

Review 65:The hotel is located in a back alley and you see the homeless and many shady characters. It was quite scary walking alone at night. Stay away if you are a single traveller or intend to be out alone at night.

Review 66:I can't say enough how helpful the staff here are. And it extended to areas that were not related to the hotel. I needed to confirm a tour and could not get thro the agency and Latoya from the front desk helped confirm it and arrange the pick up time which was a real help. Rooms were comfy and had all the basic amenities. Good security as you need the room keys to activate the lifts. The hotel also offers free shuttle to most tourist places like Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf and this is really helpful.

Review 67:Parking was expensive. Breakfast was average and they kept running out of food.

Review 68:Nice little place to stay, great location, and the staff was super friendly.

Review 69:None

Review 70:Free shuttle to main places in San Francisco. Food is great, also the service is awesome. I would definitely stay here again for my next visit to San Fran.

Review 71:Breakfast choice is limited No swimming pool

Review 72:Clean Spacious rooms Comfortable beds Large safety box USB Power charger Curtains did darken room completely

Review 73:A great place with extremely helpful and friendly staff! Just several blocks away from Union Square and close to Chinatown. On the top floor there is a terrace with a beautiful view of the city. There are some homeless people in the neighborhood (a church nearby offers food and shelter), but they are not aggressive. If someone feels uncomfortable with that, the hotel offers shuttle services to Union Square, Moscone Center, Fisherman's Wharf, and Japantown. I think Cova hotel offers one of the best value-for-money deals in San Francisco.

Review 74:Very poor location. Lots of postitutes, homeless, people selling and using drugs in broad daylight in the Tenderloin district. I wouldn't want to walk around alone at night here.

Review 75:Charming hotel. Great staff and very accommodating with their free shuttle services around the city. Easy access to main areas of the city.

Review 76:would not walk neighborhood after dark, but didnt need to. Taxis are everywhere.

Review 77:Arrived early and was treated very nice, got into my room quickly. Great shuttle service. Front desk was so friendly and helpful. Very central to most attractions.

Review 78:There was very little shower pressure. Our room was also right next to another and we could hear door slamming every time someone would leave. Some mornings was noisy with car alarms beeping and valet guys talking loudly

Review 79:Loved the friendly helpful staff, all the amenities including free shuttle, daily breakfast, microwave, wifi, etc. Warm and cozy hotel. Even though location was not in a prime neighborhood, it was convenient and close to the attraction sites we wanted to visit.

Review 80:Lack of drawers in room meant we had to leave most clothes in case. Ellis street full of rough sleepers. Sad sad sight but they did not bother us and we got many nice hellos. No one asked for anything. We eventualy realised we could turn up first street on left then down first right and avoid the worst area. Would stay there again despite this.

Review 81:Great value for money. Good breakfast comfortable bed lovely staff. Easy walking distance of centre of town and all transport.including tour buses. Loads of shops and eateries. Especially enjoyed M.Y.vChina in Bloombergs shopping mall. Best mezl of the 3 week stay in California. Staff were amazing and food was glorious!!!!

Review 82:The area (Tenderloin) is the poorest area in San Fran which can put people off, but i wouldn't let this stop you from staying here! As 2 young females, we felt safe enough. The staff organise taxis if you need them and there are free shuttles to and from Union Square and Fisherman's Warf.

Review 83:The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. The rooms were nice, comfy bed, great TV (and cable), and the bathroom was spacious. Pretty much happy with everything! The free breakfast in the downstairs cafe was simple, but you could pay extra for fancier meals (pancakes, french toast, bacon etc).

Review 84:The area around the hotel isn't the greatest there are a lot of homeless people that don't really bother you but it does make you feel a bit unsafe when walking around

Review 85:The hotel was great. Rooms were clean and big enough and they had a restaurant which served great breakfast

Review 86:Well first of all they said it had a balcony but it was just a ledge. That wasn't expected. Second the maid woke us up at 8 something in the morning while they were cleaning the room next door. I just found that very odd that they would be making so much noise that early. Third, the TV remote didn't work!! Like that minor but that's simple & should've been a problem.

Review 87:Bed was very comfortable, thats about it ..

Review 88:Excellent breakfast, that is included in hotel price and a really a pleasant surprise. Very friendly staff at check in and check out.

Review 89:Location - I wouldn't walk alone after dusk. A bit noisy outside at night.

Review 90:Extremely helpful, friendly staff; convenient shuttle to & from popular locations; lovely rooftop terrace; full hot breakfast included; excellent restaurant on site (MrCrave Bistro)

Review 91:Water pressure is very low flow.

Review 92:Conveniently close to my daughter's apartment. Also walk- able to the Audium sound performance venue on Bush St.

Review 93:When I first got to the hotel, I was driving, and I parked in the one handicap spot they had I was literally hunted down and harassed and told that I needed to move my car so that van to could park there. They wanted to me to check my car even though I repeatedly told them I was not staying I had planned to drive around for a while. Three men literally kept hounding me about moving my car even before I was allowed to check in. It was really quite unprofessional and irritating. The young black woman I spoke of intervened, smiled and went ahead and checked me in so that I could relax and then move the car. My mother and I were both on canes by the way which was quite obvious and ignored by these three men. Why the space was marked as handicap and not as hotel van use only I have no idea! The room does not look like the picture on the web site, it is small, cramped and there are no drawers to put your clothes. No place to put your personal belonging in the bathroom. Coffee pot in the bathroom...whew!!! Can anyone say unsanitary. The hotel is located where there are several homeless people on the street, but even they did not bother us.

Review 94:I really like the young black woman at the front desk that greeted us every morning (sorry I do not know her name). She was excellent and seemed to know San Francisco very well and could give information travelers would want to know. She was always pleasant and answered questions thoroughly. The hotel is centrally located, the free breakfast was good and hot...they could use some hot meat however. But it was adequate. They wash down the outside of the hotel every morning. They offer free shuttle services to several locations that would have costs about $15 plus dollars one way to get to like fisherman's wharf, union square...etc. All in all I would recommend this hotel to others.

Review 95:Nothing. We spent 14 days in hotels and this definitely was the best of them all.

Review 96:I liked everything about this hotel. Was nervous when I first read we were in the Tenderloin area but there were no problems. The staff were exceptionally helpful and kind. I liked the rooftop garden and the cleanliness of the place. Stayed 3 days. Everything was great there and I would recommend the Cova to anyone visiting SF.

Review 97:The location close to a homeless shelter - lots of drug addicts and homeless people at night. Felt unsafe, especially when travelling with children. Rooms small, no fridge.

Review 98:Front desk staff very helpful. Roof terrace nice.

Review 99:Unsafe location. Photos on the website are very misleading and has nothing to with the reality. I had to cancel my stay after one night cause we didn't feel safe at all but when we diid the hotel charged me $450 for the night I spent, a rip off! Booking.com didn't do anything about it, bad experience with booking.com that I won't repeat. The manager on duty was very rude and un helpful. I don't recommend this hotel at all.

Review 100:One staff member was trying hard to make my experience better.

Review 101:Location (bad street for walking late)

Review 102:Room

Review 103:location was scary. had to duck into a nearby convenience store to escape some thugs. i would not stay here again.

Review 104:The walls are quite thin, so a person with light sleep might be bothered by noise from the neighbors of from the street.

Review 105:Do not worry about few beggars in the city

Review 106:The staff is really kind and helpful. The location is great as your are 5 minute walk to almost everything.

Review 107:The area around the hotel was unclean and was full of homeless people sleeping on the pavements.

Review 108:The quality of the rooms was good and modern.

Review 109:Staff were vague, charged me twice for my stay and I've been waiting two weeks for a refund and still waiting!

Review 110:Comfortable clean rooms.

Review 111:Bad neighborhood

Review 112:Poor and dangerous area

Review 113:Locatie centrala

Review 114:Very bad location, expensive parking

Review 115:Nothing was special

Review 116:Location not good

Review 117:Cheap hotel for San fransisco

Review 118:No air conditioning, bad location

Review 119:Nice room and good breakfast

Review 120:My only negative was the child size toilet in the room, very strange.

Review 121:Staff, service, free wifi

Review 122:The neighbourhood was not safe wandering around, so many homeless people around

Review 123:A very spacious light room, with a good size of the bed

Review 124:Location away from main tourest areas, not so good go for us.

Review 125:Staff, hotel and shuttle buses fine

Review 126:Staff

Review 127:Location

Review 128:The location and noise

Review 129:wifi did not work, a bit pricy for the are but hotel worked out alright

Review 130:clean room, soft beds, quiet

Review 131:No pool

Review 132:Friendly staff...great room! Would love to go back.

Review 133:The neighborhood... it's in the Tenderloin district

Review 134:Price, location, noise, parking expenses 3$ per hour or 24 per day, homeless around the hotel

Review 135:Comfortable bed, very clean room

Review 136:I liked the gentleness of all the staff-very helpful.

Review 137:The area outside of the hotel was not great.

Review 138:The room was great. The parking was affordable.

Review 139:too much humid in our room, too cold as well. Neighborhood was not the best.

Review 140:Breakfast could be better .

Review 141:Very friendly and helpful staff . Shuttle service was useful and convenient .
