Reviews for Exchange Suites
Review 1:Felt unsafe and dirty We were meant to stay 2 nights but checked out after one , extremely noisey up and down streets we didn't sleep at all and kids were scared! Photos are way off
Review 2:Location
Review 3:The property is at a good price considering you get an apartment. The apartment was old and a bit rough around the edges but it is functional the space is great. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the property has an interesting history. It is in a good location too and the breakfast next door is excellent.
Review 4:To be expected downtown but you have to pay to park in a 3rd party garage a block away that doesn't let you leave without paying again. Just make sure you are done going out before parking if you can't find street parking. The quality of the bedding could be improved but overall suitable.
Review 5:Proximity to major attractions and decent room. Staff was friendly and nearby blue plate diner was great.
Review 6:The room was a great choice for me and my 21 yo daughter, booked the 2 room apt.and allowed her not to share a room with her snoring father,but.... the street noise was incredibly loud from the garbage trucks at 4:00am,12 floors up and sounded like it was next door. The room walls are also very thin....Beds were just so-so,ended up with a terrible night sleep
Review 7:Location is very convenient to the Beale street attractions,BB Kings,etc....short easy walk. The price was good for the Size of the room.
Review 8:The room was downright scary. There were marks all over the walls, one bed was broken (big hole in the middle, and a frame that looked broken in half on the edge), filthy carpet, holes in lampshades, what appeared to be dots of blood on the carpet in one of the rooms, the doors didn't seal so you could see into the hallway, broken blinds so windows overlooking a busy street weren't covered, half used toiletries in the bathroom, linens you could see through, what appeared to be electronic rodent deterrents plugged into multiple outlets in each room. One of the doors looked like someone had clawed at it to get out (huge scratches in the paint in the middle of the door), the doors didn't unlock properly so we had to be 'taught' to put the key in only so far, and jiggle it just so to get it to work. The hotel has no parking, but they recommend a parking garage half a block away. What they don't tell you is that you'll be walking through a scary neighborhood with small children, rolling suitcases, and have to wait at a locked door to be buzzed in.
Review 9:The staff was very friendly, and the lobby was very nice. The original parts of the historic hotel (the plaster ceilings, marble baseboards, and mosaic tile floors) were pretty.
Review 10:The apt was tired. It's in need of a good upgrade in the bedrooms in particular. Very basic kitchen. Bathroom was not as clean as it could have been, it needs a total upgrade too. We stayed in a great hotel in Nashville, super clean, great friendly staff, great location for the same price. I think we overpaid for this Nashville accommodation.
Review 11:Was old, nothing in room matched, furniture was chipped and falling apart along with the linoleum. No Tv in bedroom, towels were of lowest quality.
Review 12:Nice location and price. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Nice to have kitchenette. Park view was nice
Review 13:Not clean rooms. For some reason they've charged me almost double price of the room rate & I still didn't get my money back
Review 14:Convinient location
Review 15:We arrived very late at night after driving all day long, and were given keys to a room that was already occupied. We then had to go back downstairs and get keys to a different room. We were "upgraded" to a 2 bedroom apartment for the inconvenience. The room was terrible. We had to search for lights that even worked. The beds and couch were extremely uncomfortable. They clearly don't take care of their property at all. We felt so uncomfortable that we barely slept, and left as soon as we possibly could.
Review 16:YOU HAVE TO PARK IN A PARKING GARAGE AND PAY FOR PARKING AND WALK ABOUT A BLOCK TO GET TO THE HOTEL.
Review 17:THE STAFF WAS NICE.. THE ROOM WAS CLEAN AND VERY NICE.
Review 18:The rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. It was a much more authentic experience than staying in one of the nearby chain hotels. Beautiful views of the river and downtown from the upper floors.
Review 19:Very uncomfortable bed Really small towels (bath) Old dirty bath rug Terrible shower head / water pressure NO AC in the bedroom - it's was hot NO TV in bedroom No view from 13th floor Halls had an unpleasant smell
Review 20:The front desk and maintenance person were helpful with dinning locations
Review 21:This hotel was in a word, creepy. As we loaded the elevator to go up to our room a man who lived in the building (it's mixed hotel, and apartments) asked us repeatedly what floor and room we were in and was very pushy and creepy. When we finally got away from him and made it to our room, we could hear a very vulgar cursing argument between a couple in one of the apartments in the hallway... They were screaming so loudly we heard every word, and had our young children which the language was completely inappropriate for. There was a woman milling about in the hall looking very upset and like she was waiting for someone. We thankfully retreated to our room, only to find that there was no secondary lock on the door, only the deadbolt that opens when you turn the handle (really bad for toddlers!) and I'm pretty sure this is a requirement that hotels provide the secondary deadbolt/chain/hook as I have stayed in hundreds of international accommodations and have never seen one without it. I felt very unsafe, after the creepy guy tryin g to figure out what room we were in... We wound up shoving a chair under the doorknob and getting a baby gate to keep our toddlers from being able to get to the doorknob. The room itself, while large, is in major need of some updates. The light switches and plugs didn't work in several places, the bathroom sink had cigarette burns all over it (in a non-smoking room) the shower head was a disaster, the Windows were drafty and noisy... The worst though were the mattresses.. They were loud, creaky, uncomfortable. All in all a horrible, scary, noisy, uncomfortable night.
Review 22:Staff was friendly and the apartment was large.
Review 23:The only thing I didn't like is the bad reviews!!! This place is a gem!!!
Review 24:There wasn't anything to not like! Absolutely loved it! Can't wait to come back. Kudos to the valet/security!! Loved him!!!
Review 25:The staff was amazing an so was the location but I feel as thought I got ripped off on the place cause the room didn't have a TV in the bed room an the shower water never stayed hot. It was always a Luke warm or ice cold an I found that very unpleasant. Oh an the bed was not comfortable at all so I just slept on the couch.
Review 26:No tv in bedrooms.
Review 27:Perfect place if you are headed to Fedex Forum, Beale st, or Memphis in May. A hidden gem!! We will be back for sure. Went with friends this time, but next time I'll be taking my family.
Review 28:big minus because of super super super noisy room., no way you can stop this unless you make your neighborhood turn off their a/c. old facilities is another minus.
Review 29:kitchen is a plus, though there is no grocery store around. access of private fitness club is a plus. d-TV is another plus.
Review 30:The only drawback to our large flat was the bed, an old mattress - the apartment would have been excellent just with a better king size bed.
Review 31:Easy walk to Beale Street and the main attractions. Good and cheaper alternative to basic hotel rooms and plenty of space! Close to good restaurants and bars particularly BB Kings ! Lovely staff.
Review 32:Better transport, perhaps a shuttle, to airport would be good as our taxi which was recommended by the hotel proved very unreliable and had to be followed up. This was a challenge as we had an early morning flight and were worried about not getting to the airport. The staff member Taeisha was excellent in doing her best to follow up on it.
Review 33:We liked having the facilities available to self-cater and more privacy than in a regular hotel. It was a clean, decent sized room.
Review 34:Clean apartment in a great location, just a short walk to restaurants, museums etc. While they didn't have parking, there was a secure parking facility next door at a cost of $8 a day (so cheap)
Review 35:I would not go back, although beale st was fun to go out in, the area has a lot of beggars always asking for money or cigarettes, so there was an air of feeling unsafe.
Review 36:We went as we were passing through visiting graceland
Review 37:The front entrance with tiles missing and looks like an upgrade happening, not good for first impression. Electrical cords, cables not secured correctly.
Review 38:It could use a little updating in terms of room decor and amenities but all in all, a great experience. It's the perfect location for a fun getaway. The beds are small but comfortable.
Review 39:Loved the location and the price.
Review 40:A full bed is a little hard for us to sleep on so that was a little rough. The whole 12th floor smelled like cig smoke.
Review 41:The location and view from the room was amazing. Just a couple blocks from Bell st.
Review 42:Whole property smells of smoke. our "air conditioning" was a portable unit which only cooled the sitting/kitchen area. Bedroom had a fan only. Had to ask at front desk for fresh towels daily and they were unmatched, small and threadbare.
Review 43:Building was tired and staff was not very friendly---location was fair
Review 44:The hotel room was very spacious but it was old fashioned and smelt of smoke even though it's apparently a no smoking hotel. I didn't know this would be the case otherwise I wouldn't have booked it! The AC until was as quiet as an old jet engine!
Review 45:Location was excellent.
Review 46:The apartment was "clean" but I rated it lower because while I appreciate that the building is old and has a history, the apartment needed some repair/maintenance and some general TLC. Carpets were really stained and need to be replaced. Water damage was evident in several areas - especially in one of the bathrooms with ceiling tiles...they were pretty gross and can/should have been easily replaced. Apartment had musty smell that was noticeable upon entering....but seemed to dissipate after being there awhile. I would stay there again, but a little upkeep would go a long way.
Review 47:Loved the location....walking distance to just about everything. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a total of 3 couples and 2 children so the 4 BR apartment gave us a ton of room. Loved the historical building.
Review 48:The sheets were about a 50 threadcount. I'm not sure the last time floors were cleaned; after walking around in bare feet for an evening our feet were black. The Exchange needs some TLC.
Review 49:The staff were very helpful.
Review 50:One of the staff weren't too helpful. When we arrived we were told that our room was up the stairs. We weren't old there was a lift and there was no offer of help, so. We had to lug all our. Awes up two flights of stairs
Review 51:The building is beautiful and there is a lot of space with very large beds but some of the mattresses were saggy Nd uncomfortable.
Review 52:Smelly hallways - smelled like cigarettes and people's cooking. Was not worth the money we spent. We could have stayed at a nicerplace for cheaper.
Review 53:The location is fantastic, about a 1/2 mile from the Orpheum and thebeginning of the Beale St bar area.
Review 54:The bed was a bit small.
Review 55:Nice roomy apartment with fully equipped kitchen. Good location on main street and within walking distance of Beale St. Good price.
Review 56:I loved the fact that it was close to all the attractions and public transportation was conveniently located. We were close a block or two away but not in the center, which was perfect. Furnishings were comfortable and very nice. Bedroom very small, but VERY comfortable.
Review 57:The front desk clerk didn't explain things well. We were in room 1901 on the 19th floor. The room was located through a door that said "stairs". We were not told that we had a key fob to get back into the building after 11 pm. I had to ask. He needs to improve his customer service skills.
Review 58:I liked the location of the hotel to Besle Street.
Review 59:No plug in bathroom. Very poor wifi coverage.
Review 60:Very central location next to Main Street, Beale street and other hotspots Large room was great. Useful to have kitchen facility. Willingness to change room after plumbing problem!
Review 61:Tiny towels, no bar soap and rooms are only made up every few days. For the price, I would have expected more. There are many other comparably priced hotels nearby that I will opt for on my next visit. Climate control is ancient and temperamental. Not much for shade except old window blinds.
Review 62:Location was central to downtown Memphis
Review 63:The aprtment was run down. A new shower head was needed. There was no table. The door to the shower was difficult to open and close.
Review 64:The quick response and friendliness of staff
Review 65:The location was perfect and the staff was very helpful. We has no problems checking in nor did we have any checking out. Will definitely stay again and recommend to others.
Review 66:The bed. Bad mattress. Room too bright. No dark shade. Stadium lights shining into room all night and when sun comes up room is lit up. Towels were scarce and hard to come by. Small.
Review 67:Not able to control room temperature. Building extremely hot. No tv in sleeping area. The "free wifi" does not work. They shut off the ac for the building in the middle of my stay.
Review 68:The location
Review 69:My tv didn't work the first night I was there, and five minutes before the repair man arrived on the second evening, I fixed the problem myself.
Review 70:The location was great.
Review 71:The check-in clerks were fantastic....very friendly and helpful. This place was within perfect walking distance of everything. Parking in the garage less than a block a way was perfect and cheap.
Review 72:No gym. Not enough cooking utensils (sharp knife, cutting board, mixing bowl, strainer, etc). Air conditioner wasn't big enough to cool down the whole apartment.
Review 73:Beautiful reception area with marble and pretty furniture and Danny (receptionist) was super super friendly and helpful. Room was very big with full kitchen and really comfortable bed. Good location.
Review 74:Staff helpfulness was underwhelming. Like talking to Wilson from Home Improvement-- you can only see half their face from behind the computer screen.
Review 75:Very convenient downtown location! Beautiful, historic building, in fair condition.
Review 76:Room & decor was outdated and smelled old.no amenities available, etc hotel should separated from residents if your going to market this as a hotel on major booking sites
Review 77:Location and view was & amazing
Review 78:Wifi on the 14th sucked - practically non-existent. No parking arrangements - just street parking or public parking lots nearby.
Review 79:Location. We did not expect a porter but there was one to help us - very efficient, helpful and friendly. The apartment was quite spacious and well-equipped.
Review 80:Very smelly place it was like someone had smoked lots before we entered the room. The kitchen was unusable as we had nothing to cook with. All in all very bad experience and extremely disappointed
Review 81:The bathroom wasn't very clean looking. Needed a broom in the apartment as there were only wood floors and I needed to sweep up some stuff. No parking on sight so there was an additional cost there No dresser or bureau--a few shelves in the closet would do nicely
Review 82:I love the building. It could use some upkeep and there needs to be more history displayed throughout it for guests to see and learn. a beautiful building with great potential. I liked the fact that it was an apartment and my son and his family and my husband and I could go in our room and close the door when we needed to. I loved the location and would stay again.
Review 83:Security guard Michael is very nice and making sure we are satisfy with his service. He also help us to our room and very pleasant in greeting us every time he sees us.
Review 84:Smelled of stale cigarette smoke, no extra blankets in the room. Only the bed in the bedrooms no clock not even a night stand, just the bed.
Review 85:Easy to get to off of the interstate, it was good for a last minute place to sleep just passing through.
Review 86:Wasn't really sure whether this place was residential or vacation?? The apartment was basic but adequate for a short stay. Can see how some people would feel unsafe walking back late at night but we didn't have any problems.
Review 87:Great Location, good sized apartment. Beale street and other attractions are in walking distance. There are parking lots nearby, but we managed to park directly outside. TV, wifi and aircon all worked well.
Review 88:I was never told that parking isn't included. When we arrived to check-in after 11pm- my husband had to park a block and a half away, pay, and walk back with the remaining luggage. This part of town wasn't the cleanest or safest.
Review 89:I liked the space for the money, because we have 3 children and it was nice to have 2 bedrooms. I also liked the architecture of the building and the way much of the original flooring and fixtures were kept in tact.
Review 90:They have to get a better cooling system I stayed in the 3bedroom andthe upstairs was miserable hot as hell all-day and night... Other thanthat it was a good place to be but air is a Big Deal... Parking was veryfar if you left something in your car but the walk was needed
Review 91:Great location... Huge amount of space
Review 92:The hall were warm, but it seems like they are still working on remodeling the hotel.
Review 93:We needed to stay one night on our way home to Texas. I booked it because of the price. I was worried after reading some negative reviews, but I must say there was nothing wrong with this place. It was exactly like the pictures, it was clean, and the service was excellent. You do pay for parking but it was only 8 dollars per day and not even a block away, in a secure parking lot. I would definitely stay with my family again.
Review 94:Great value for money! A group of 8 friends booked two of the two bedroom apartments last minute and they were perfect. The apartments were in a very central location and also very clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend staying at The Exchange!
Review 95:To find parking was horrible, room had too much light, and the noise level was horrible (arguing drunks outside).
Review 96:I like that it was vintage and the apartment was nice.
Review 97:The room we had was nothing like in the pictures, needed some small repairs, outdated. There were tile floors that were missing some tiles. You had to stand in the kitchen to get WiFi.
Review 98:The location, near Beale Street(4 blocks away). Room was big for a large group- slept 12, good if a large group travelling.
Review 99:Everything was really great except they really need curtains on the windows in the bedrooms. Even with blinds the whole room was completely lit up by 6am.
Review 100:I liked the staff who were all very friendly. I liked the location and price.
Review 101:There were only 2 of the 3 elevators working and with 19 floors all 3 need to work. It is an old building so air conditioning could use some help. Smelled funky and it smelled smoky which it is non smoking.
Review 102:Loved the location. Loved the price. Loved that it is historical and that some of the original things are kept.
Review 103:The girls at the front desk were super friendly. We got in at 11 pm and we're exhausted after a 16 hr drive but they gave us recommendations on where to eat and park that were open and easily accessible. Security was friendly and helpful as well!
Review 104:We arrived 10 mins before check in time after a long drive. Reception staff ignored us for aroun 2-3 mins at desk then told us we were early and to sit down until 3pm. Attitude was not welcoming and bordering on plain rude. Apartment was scruffy and air con did not work. Stay Clear.
Review 105:One of the beds was very comfortable (one of our kids stayed in that room), but the room we chose, the bed was broken. It looked like it could use a little updating, as long as the character is maintained.
Review 106:Although the building was very old, it has a lot of character and was different than anywhere we've stayed before. We were upgraded (for free) due to not having enough of the rooms I had originally requested. It was a very pleasant surprise for our family.
Review 107:Parking was terrible.Everytime we left the parking garage we were charged. It was not as well stocked as I had thought it would be--especially the kitchen. Commode was for an extremely ahort person. Seating in living room was too limited. There was four adults--seemed to need at least two more comfortable chairs or a loveseat.
Review 108:We liked the two seperate bedrooms.
Review 109:I didn't like our bed personally (too soft), however another person may love the bed. Rooms could be updated. There should be a designated area for dropping off people & luggage. I would have liked a bit more furniture in the living room.
Review 110:The property was in a good location with good security. Parking was off site, but close by and didn't cost much. Our two bedroom was clean. Good location for a decent price.
Review 111:Parking was a bit difficult to find, but we got lucky and got a meter out front. Free parking on the weekends!
Review 112:We were in a two bedroom apartment on the 10th floor. Great view of downtown, friendly staff, beautifully historic facility, most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, great furniture, and only ten minute walk to Beale Street (or a five minute ride in a horse-drawn carriage). You will not want to leave. Best $108 I ever spent on a hotel stay! We'll be back.
Review 113:No loading zone for arrival and departure. Difficult to park blocks away and haul luggage in heat. You could block an area for a loading zone like hotels usually provide.
Review 114:Historic builiding
Review 115:Read reviews and regretted booking this place however was pleasantly surprised when we arrived it's in a brilliant location and value for the money yes the building is old and has lots of original features and there are some people who live there as it's more like an apartment than a hotel. There were a few minor issues and it wasn't a 5* but it served it for what we wanted a bed for the night it was clean and tidy It would be perfect for groups travel
Review 116:The building is dated, the elevators don't work well, and the combination of hotel/condo is awkward, you can hear the neighbors yelling. There was no soap in the bathroom, the trash from the previous guests was still there, and the beds are twin. Not a good experience.
Review 117:Nothing much.
Review 118:2nd floor elevator did not work. One member in my group had difficulty with stairs due to arthritis
Review 119:Front desk staff made quick reservation change for our group making our stay more comfortable. Food recommendations on-point! Great location near DT/Beale St. Great view of downtown from window Every room is different
Review 120:Can't think of anything.
Review 121:A block from the church where we played music for wedding. Staff with perfect suggestions for restaurants and our emergency need for sound equipment. International feeling. Price.
Review 122:My room didn't have a towel, and I had to go to the front desk to get one. That was after the door wouldn't unlock for the first room I was assigned.
Review 123:Good location. Helpful staff. Spacious one-bedroom apartment.
Review 124:Lack of parking would have been a major problem had I been staying more than one night. Fortunately, as a one-night stay within walking distance of great dining venues, I didn't have to move the car. Had to deal with a surly desk clerk checking out in the morning who refused to give me a receipt until I insisted. He was quite patronizing.
Review 125:Excellent location just a few blocks from Beale Street dining and entertainment. I scored a free overnight parking spot right in front of the hotel lobby -- very lucky.
Review 126:The Exchange really skimps on the comfort and tries for the minimalist look. There are many little details in the apartment that could be maintained to give it a cleaner more well cared for look.
Review 127:The location, close to Beale St, was awesome. The staff was very perky; however, one of the front desk girls was clueless.
Review 128:Pictures are the best part about this place but this place is nothinglike the pics.NO PARKING NO AC IN HALLWAYS ROOM FOR 5 ONLY SLEPT 4 UNCOMFORTABLE BEDS JUST CHEAP QUALITY BEDS, TOWELS STICK TO BEING AN APARTMENT COMPLEX
Review 129:Not muchONE BELL PERSON
Review 130:The air-conditioner made such a loud constant noise it was like having a generator in the apartment.
Review 131:Good location, a 10 minute walk to Beale st so you have the benefits but not the noise. Friendly staff and beautiful lobby.
Review 132:Parking
Review 133:The hotel was very nice and the staff was great overall an awesome stay .the only thing we had a problem with was parking none around the hotel and the parking garage we used was lil ways away but ok so if your looking for a place to stay in memphis stay at the exchange
