Reviews for Hotel Stratford

Review 1:I loved how nice and helpful the staff was. They were also very gracious to watch our luggage after check out while my friend and I explore the city for the day.

Review 2:Room was small, bathroom could have been smaller and increased room size. Other hotels in the area offer wine happy hours.

Review 3:Great location, staff is very friendly

Review 4:The TV system and reception were poor. We weren't there to watch TV, but it's nice to catch the news or games while you're in the room.

Review 5:The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. The location is perfect for tourists visiting San Francisco: right on the trolly line, a short walk to the BART and great shopping and dining surround the hotel.

Review 6:It is a bit run down and the bed was uncomfortable for me - too hard. Breakfast was not the best, but I guess American standard (except the good coffee). The heater in the room was very old and there was no way to regulate the temperature, so at night it was too hot for me to sleep. You do hear street noise even when you are in a "quiet room" - there are often musicians in the street downstairs.

Review 7:One of the receptionists was exceptionally friendly (the other not so much). Very helpful, I could store my luggage there and even check in early on my morning arrival. They offer nice free toiletries for the bathroom. Morning coffee was surprisingly good. It was an OK stay in a city where hotels are generally overpriced!

Review 8:I can't believe that I paid over 200 dollars for this room. Of course on new year eve, would be expensive than normal time but...the room was super tiny (two people can't move together) and the shower place was horrible. My boyfriend was hardly move in there. And the most horrible part was we found cockroach in the room when we came back from dinner. It was worst night of my trip SF. I'll never visit this hotel again.

Review 9:The front desk staff was friendly.

Review 10:Tiny,tiny stuffy rooms. No fridge.Breakfast was very basic. Slow lift, quicker to use the stairs.

Review 11:Central to City- close to shops and transport. Walking distance to day tours pick up point.

Review 12:Found out that we had to park with someone staying at the car to avoid getting a ticket. Dropping off all the luggage. While my husband checked us in, I had to find parking. Leaving the hotel we had to have all our things by the door ready to go. I drove illegally down Powell St., had to stay in the car to avoid getting a ticket, while my husband loaded all our christmas shopping (15 bags) plus luggage.

Review 13:We liked the location.

Review 14:It used to be a hostel so the room are very very small. Low flow shower heads. Breakfast was not as bountiful as we'd like it to be. The cable TV didn't work very well. I wanted to pay in cash but when I checked out the desk clerk just clicked my credit card without asking first.

Review 15:Proximity to Union Square for the price is pretty good.

Review 16:Awesome location right in the middle of everything. Staff was very friendly, especially two of the guys working there. Room was small but that was expected. Widow was not of the street so we didn't get any noise in the room... Nice and quiet even with the window open. Will stay here again on our next trip.

Review 17:Disgusting bed (white sheets and comforter were stained) - luckily I was only there for 1 day; bathroom wasn't clean; smelly room; noisy - could here all the noise from the street. Was so surprised at how bad this hotel was given it was right next to the Westin hotel.

Review 18:Great location in downtown, very close to trolley, BART, hop-on hop-off tour bus.

Review 19:nothing - very good value and a good base to explore the city!

Review 20:Efficient check-in and staff really friendly. I'd requested a "high floor" room on advice from friends as the hotel is on Powell st which is really busy and has regular cable car service running in front of the hotel (I was given a room on the 7th floor - which was great) Again, Really friendly staff, room was small but comfortable and the breakfast (continental) was included in the room rate and was substantial and set you up for the day ! free Wi-Fi was useful to plan sightseeing and keep in touch with friends! Hotel is only a few hundred yards (uphill) from Powell St Bart station (convenient for to/from both airports) so I wouldn't bother with transfer cabs / airport shuttles unless you are arriving really late / in the dark

Review 21:The room was about 200 sq feet. Not very ideal for a romantic anniversary trip.

Review 22:Michael and Sean were very accommodating during our sudden change of plans! Thanks guys, you rock!!!!!

Review 23:Poor breakfast that started at 7.30. Normally ok but i was at a conference which started proceedings at 7.30 so i had to skip breakfast.

Review 24:Proximity to shops, restauraunts, conference center ( a pleasant 15 minute walk).

Review 25:Worst shower ever! Zero water pressure. Room has no a/c and no convenient outlets for electronics.

Review 26:Location is great. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Room was small and basic but clean.

Review 27:Very tired hotel and really expensive for the state of the facilities. If you want location then it is probably worth it, but if you want comfort then this is not the place for you.

Review 28:Great location.

Review 29:There are not very many power outlets in the room, so I had to unplug a few things (lamps and TV) to charge my laptop and mobile devices but I made it work.

Review 30:The location was excellent for me. Easy to get to/from the BART and direct access to the trolley cars to get to Fisherman s Wharf.

Review 31:The overnight staff was unfriendly and was sleeping on the couch. The sheets were dirty and they used a flat sheet on the mattress instead of a fitted sheet. It didn't fully cover the scratchy mattress protector. The room was tiny and there was no AC. This place was not worth the money I paid. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 32:The only thing I liked about this hotel was its location.

Review 33:No bath in room, just a shower. Power socket hard to get at. No bedside table (we made the ironing board do double duty). View from room was a blank brick wall, no daylight.

Review 34:View from breakfast room (right above Powell St). Location (Union Square is just steps away).

Review 35:No aircon? However the ceiling fan did help

Review 36:I liked the fact, that our late arrival was no hassle for this boutique style heritage hotel. Esther at checkin, was very friendly, poilte and helpful. Rooms are small, however clean sheets, a comfy bed & pillow is all you need on your travels and this hotel certainly provides it. I would recommend anyone wanting to save a few $$$$ to give it a go!

Review 37:It's located in a strategic place. A proper place to be, be it for budget traveller or business-related trip. Good wi-fi connection and friendly staff.

Review 38:Located directly at Union square (super noisy all night. Earplugs recommended).

Review 39:Located directly at Union square (super central!). Nice breakfast (coffe, tea, milk, toast, marmelade, cereals, apples, muffins)

Review 40:Hotel too old, rooms tiny and extremely hot. No air conditioner and breakfast offered too poor, just coffee and bread. Expensive for what is offered, overrated.

Review 41:Location is excellent, right on Powell street, nearby important stores, restaurants and metro station.

Review 42:Room size, only enough space to walk around the bed. No air conditioning. I understand it's a 2 star hotel but you are still paying a lot.

Review 43:What a great location! Great staff.

Review 44:After I left my one night stay, I discovered four large bites. I don't know if they were bed bugs, but I threw away my suitcase and washed/heated everything I traveled with. I called the hotel and they were very sorry. My room (408) was very very small. I had difficulty finding an outlet to charge my phone. I finally unplugged the hairdryer by the sink to charge. If I wanted to charge my laptop at the desk, I would have had to unplug the light. Staff was friendly and the location was great.

Review 45:Unusually hot temps in SFO when we visited - there is no air conditioning and limited access to any cooling systems.

Review 46:Location/staff were very helpful

Review 47:Room had no A/C and with no view on the street.

Review 48:Location was awesome. Almost so close to eveywhere in the city. Perfect acces to the subway, cable cars and even the city tour buses.

Review 49:- WIFI too slow

Review 50:- location, location & location (just near Union square, bus & cable car at the foot of the hôtel) - included breakfast - price

Review 51:The facilities were very poor, no value for money at cost of 226 dollar per night the room had hardly space to move around. The breakfast could have had more options and they have no salt and pepper to give to customer.

Review 52:The location was excellent

Review 53:beds small and the breakfast was rather limited compared with other hotels in a similar area and price

Review 54:great location, clean and quiet - we had a back room so weren't disturbed by the cable cars!

Review 55:I brought the kids blow up twin mattress so they could sleep on the floor and there wasn't even enough room for that. All 4 of us had to sleep on the one queen sized bed. If it were just me and my husband it would have been just ok. For a family of 4.....awful.

Review 56:The street side is very noisy, and it was pretty hot in the rooms no a/c. But, the staff relocated us to a back room and it was very nice.

Review 57:Jack at front desk was so friendly and helpful… All the staff was very kind

Review 58:Room are quite small, and breakfast could be better. Price is high, bus SFO hotels are all very expensive.

Review 59:Location is perfect, near Union Square and most important shops streets. Staff is very helpful.

Review 60:Shower was kind of dirty. Can't really open curtains without other visitor looking at you. Blanket was old and not warm, not that it was cold but I'm all about a nice clean bed. They do a 100 hold on your card for possible damage etc. One of the higher fees I've seen.

Review 61:Location is great... smack dab in the middle of everything and with plenty garage parking options. Cozy little hotel!

Review 62:They over charged my credit card by $150.00 so verify the amount being charged before you leave....I have to dispute the charge with my credit card company.

Review 63:The location is AWESOME and if you don't mind a very small dorm room size then go for it...we didn't mind it as the room was very clean and the bathroom in particular was clean...cannot say enough about the location as it is IDEAL...

Review 64:Rooms were very small. No view. I think the air-condition was centrally operated, there were times where i wish i cld adjust it. breakfast very basic. Bit overpriced for what is on offer. Super slow elevator.

Review 65:Location was the best, few meters from the square. Free wifi...

Review 66:The shower pressure was too low in my room. The quality of food on the continental breakfast needs to be improved.

Review 67:The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Union Square. Walking distance to numerous restaurant and shops.

Review 68:The rooms were small and stuffy causing my partner to snore and keep me awake!!

Review 69:The staff were really lovely, welcoming you with a smile! WIFI is good also. Fantastic location at a fraction of the price of some of the other hotels in the same area.

Review 70:Tiny room which was very hot and humid. No tea or coffee facilities in room. Shower pressure very poor. One small lift, very slow and crowded. Housekeeping was only done very late in the afternoon. Breakfast selection not good.

Review 71:Central location.

Review 72:It was a very small room and it definitely had a smell as some of the other reviewers have said.

Review 73:It was a fantastic location - so close to all the shops!

Review 74:Our room and bathroom were very small. The furniture was a little bit trashed and the curtains were all dirty and rusty. Our tv was doing strange noises too. No air conditioner in the rooms.

Review 75:Great location!

Review 76:Extreme amount of hallway and room boos after midnight. Actually after 100 am. Heard neighbour vomiting after partying

Review 77:Location cleanliness and friendly staff

Review 78:Didn't stay long enough - so can't really comment.

Review 79:Very Central - just by union square. Close to train station. Bang in the middle making it easy to visit highlights on foot too. Modest room - fine for a couple of nights. Remember to take shower gel etc. Breakfast - tea/coffee/juice/water. Sliced bread, jam, butter. Tiny cupcakes. All in all - pretty basic and decent.

Review 80:Water pump for shower is not so function.

Review 81:Location is great and staff is helpful. Overall is very nice and suggest for leisure traveler as very convenient for access to all area

Review 82:I didn't like how long it took to use the elevator. The rooms were super tiny, I felt very uncomfortable. The bathroom was not very comfortable. The placement of the sink seems very awkward. No AC!!! Ugh the entire night we could barely sleep. The fan didn't do much, and the bed was super uncomfortable. It was too hard of a mattress.

Review 83:I liked the location, that's about it. I also really like Jack, he was excellent! Was very hospitable and friendly. The other staff barely even talked to us.

Review 84:Ideally situated, Stratford hotel is the best selection if you need an affordable hotel for a city tour. The hotel building is old, the rooms represent the early XX. centuries American hotel atmosphere but it is much better equipped.

Review 85:Night staff wasn't very helpful. We understood there was valet parking or parking close by. All the public lots were full and we had to park far away.

Review 86:We were so close to all the fun shopping and some wonderful places to eat.

Review 87:The room was extremely tiny and hot. We had to open the window and turn on the fan ... and it was still too hot

Review 88:The staff was great ... the location was close to everything downtown and near public transportation

Review 89:Everything was great!

Review 90:Great location, staff are friendly and helpful. If you are looking to explore the City and not sit in your room this is the place for you!

Review 91:Everything was perfect. The hotel even allowde for earlier check in and late check out because it wasn't fully booked at that time. Location perfect. Breakfast basic but typical for us. Small room but we didn't spend time in it anyway;) I have nothing to complain about.

Review 92:Upon arrival we got a very tiny room with a window headed to a dirty wall..I talked to the staff and they gave us an other room (which was slightly bigger and had some daylight) so overall a good experience! Although it's kind of expensive for that roomsize but you're paying the location..

Review 93:Location (Downtown), furniture not too old, clean, breakfest and wifi,

Review 94:Room was small and looked out on to air conditioning units and into over rooms on other side of hotel. Floor wasn't hoovered all that well when first got there either

Review 95:Great location for all shops and trams

Review 96:My room was too warm even after turning on the fan and opening the window

Review 97:This hotel is in the heart of union square, and close to public transportation

Review 98:Tried several times to connect to Wi-Fi and I was never able to connect.

Review 99:The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is in a great location with lots of shopping nearby.

Review 100:Not a good choice for people that want to spend a lot of time in their room or need all the perks of a more expensive hotel.

Review 101:Great price for so close to Union Square. Small room, but comfortable enough. Nice staff. No refrigerator but front desk held food for us. Light continental breakfast was enough to hold us over.

Review 102:Room was small, and no coffee facilities.

Review 103:Hotel is in a great location, only 20 metres from Union Square. Central to main shopping area, cable cars etc. Staff extremely helpful and courteous.

Review 104:The room was nothing fancy but was clean and fine for our one night's stay.

Review 105:Staff was incredibly helpful and informative at check-in. Seemed genuinely concerned that we enjoy our visit to SF.

Review 106:Rather limited and stuffy space. Also has this strong smell that bothers me (probably because of the store that sells scented soap next door...).

Review 107:Location is perfect. 5-minute-walk to nearest BART station. Also surrounded by various shopping places. Convenient breakfast.

Review 108:- Break fast is very poor - Elevator takes ages to move - Room has a ceiling fan as cooling system so it was a bit humid after shower

Review 109:- Location is the best, centre of everything - Room's spacious and clean - Receptionists are very friendly n helpfull

Review 110:A little old, but not really a problem. Room not spacious, but OK, as we weren't really in it very much.

Review 111:Friendly, helpful staff. Clean room, hot shower and comfortable bed. Basic, continental breakfast, good start to the day. Good wi fi. Great location - cable cars right outside the front door.

Review 112:Room type was not as pictured on Booking. Bathroom was older, and the room was to be a Queen sized bed, they gave us a small room with a Full sized bed, and said "No, that's a Queen" by what measurement, I don't know, but it was quite small. Mistakes with our reservation, when I called to confirm the day before arriving they said it was for 2 nights and my booking confirmation said 3 nights. I verified and they said "Yes, we've got you for three nights" but at the end of a day of site seeing on our third night we were locked out of our room and had to return downstairs (slow elevators) and wait in line to have our keys reactivated. No explanation, no apology, nothing. Just "Here ya go!" and the next morning when we checked out we were charged for 4 nights! The clerk on duty at that time was very kind and caught the error herself, but other staff members we talked to never seemed to know if we were 2 nights, 3 nights, or 4 nights. Very disorganized. I would advise that you CONFIRM your reservation more than once with this property.

Review 113:Very fast Wi-Fi that never had any problems to access. Location is right on Powell with walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Also easy to catch Uber on the corner at Union Square.

Review 114:The room is tiny, we had a few cases with us and it was a struggle finding somewhere to put them without falling over them. We had a view of a brick wall, which was disappointing, but on the plus side we had a good nights sleep without any noise. There is no aircon, it has a room fan which is very noisy. It was very very warm of a night.

Review 115:The hotel is in a fantastic location with Union Square just at the top of the road. It's in a prime location for nice restaurants and bars and watching or catching the trams that go by. The staff in reception are very knowledgeable about the area and always willing to help. We had nice clean towels and the bed was big and comfortable. Breakfast is included in the price, nothing amazing, just cereal and toast but it set you up for a few hours, which was welcome. On the whole our experience was good and the price doesn't reflect the hotel it definitely reflects the prime location.

Review 116:crowd of tourist, all scrambling for one small elevator...waiting time long especially when you got caught up on the day and time of their arrival

Review 117:Room was very clean and fitting to my taste staff were good Nice breakfast

Review 118:One lift And like many hotels in San Francisco expensieve

Review 119:Helpful staff. Adequate breakfasts.Small but functional bedrooms. Excellent position near Union Square with good transport links round the city. The Staff provided both maps and advice as to how to get to the various tourist destinations.

Review 120:Very noisy and very hot room. Earplugs essential. No air conditioning and ceiling fan a comfort rather than a cooler. Can't imagine summer heat!

Review 121:On a noisy but very entertaining street. Spent half the night gazing at the street from the window. Perfect location for walking the city.

Review 122:Breakfast was very minimal even for US standards, 1 slow elevator for all the floors/rooms.

Review 123:Location is simply excellent! We had a spacious room with two double beds (which is convenient because one double bed was two narrow for us both to sleep comfortably), friendly staff.

Review 124:The room was very small & cramped, especially as we had two suitcases. It got very hot at night & there was no air con or fan, we had to open the window to keep cool & due to the location it was very noisy. A fridge would have been nice.

Review 125:Location was great! Staff were extremely helpful & breakfast was nice. Good value for money considering the price

Review 126:Can be noisy as tram stop outside so ask for room at the back plus few yards from Union square.

Review 127:Staff very helpful and friendly Beds comfortable Great location for the sights Breakfast basic but good start to the day

Review 128:Elevator only holds 5 people at a time. After trekking up the stairs to the 7th floor, key did not work. Total cost was $355 for one night. I was expecting a bit more for that price, room was small, breakfast was minimal.

Review 129:Staff were friendly enough

Review 130:The cost was high, very minimal facility, toilet was leaking all night long, bed lamp was having trouble stay on.

Review 131:It was clean, I could open a window. Proximity to union SQ

Review 132:There was no space to store clothing and toiletries. Also, heater was left on and no way to shut it off. Had to call front desk twice. Even then, it stayed hot for several hours. Had to sleep with window open with room facing Powell street. Very, very, noisy.

Review 133:When checking in - the lady was bit rude and made me feel not very welcome. The complimentary breakfast was very poor - had better selection and quality in cheaper motels. Strange selection of toiletries

Review 134:The room was nice, clean and bright on 8th with a view on bustling centre. Complimentary water was nice touch. Good comfortable bed.

Review 135:Very slow lift.

Review 136:Friendly and helpfull staff. Very central, safe location close to Union Square, cable car stop and BART station. Continental breakfast included

Review 137:Nothing in particular. If you're looking for a very spacious room, look elsewhere.

Review 138:Location superb; whithin a stone's throw of Union Square, right next to cable car and public transportation (BART, Muni) within 5 minutes walk. Rooms are clean and comfortable, but not spacious. This was no problem for us, since you're out to explore the city most of the day anyway. Staff is very friendly and helpful with tips for sightseeing, transportation and airport shuttles. Breakfast was ok, mostly cereals and pastry. Would definitely recommend for city trip purposes.

Review 139:Unit, Parking, Noise, Service, Lightning issue, Glass in shower and room....Total confusion with front desk. Check in was OK. Then went downhill from that point forward....

Review 140:Location was good!

Review 141:everything was great

Review 142:room was clean, service was great. breakfast was enough to get started for the day, for just needing the room to sleep we enjoyed it very much.location was a definate plus close to everything
