Reviews for Grand Geneva Resort and Spa
Review 1:Needed to make reservations just to dine in a buffet style venue. Also, need to start updating the furniture - things are looking worn and run down.
Review 2:The atmosphere, amenities, service. Brunch at the Chop House was fabulous.
Review 3:It was a very comfortable bed, and very nice and courteous staff. Nice that they served Starbucks in their coffee shop! We really didn't spend much time there as we were there for the Christmas Holiday, and spent just the night sleeping there due to being with family, but it was a pleasant stay! It was all lit up for Christmas and beautiful lights lit the whole road coming in and all the way through to get out! Beautiful! Wish we had more time there!
Review 4:We didn't realize the indoor waterpark was part of a sister resort.
Review 5:The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. The location is very scenic and beautiful. Great place to stay.
Review 6:The pool outside and indoor are dirty The way to and from the room and lobby is confusing, iAd if you are walking on a maze.
Review 7:The outside view, the walk golf area where we were walked in on he morning and eve. The playground, the daycare area.
Review 8:Cold shower Burned out lights which didn't get fixed despite my request No sheet, only feather comforter and pillows despite my request $15 "campus fee" to cover water and Internet Dusty hallways and room
Review 9:Beautiful view from balcony Comfortable bed
Review 10:Breakfast staff was non-attentive. My husband had to go looking for cream for my coffee. The choices were not that great for the price.
Review 11:Location was great. The outdoor pool was nice and the front desk staff was very accommodating
Review 12:Had a bad experience with the manager at breakfast. They don't allow you to gang tables, where rude about it, very slow service if your not doing the buffet. We ended up walking out.
Review 13:The pool and grounds.
Review 14:The hotel room was in need of some minor repairs. Hotel itself could use some updating. We are loyal customers of the Abbey but wanted to try this resort out. The Abbey Resort far exceeds the Grand Geneva. The Abbey is more updated. Our room smelled a little musty. We could not use any outlets to charge our phones, they were all to loose. The cleaning service was far below standard, as our room was not cleaned for two days.
Review 15:The outdoor swimming pool was excellent. Also the wait staff was wonderful.
Review 16:Requested a room with a view, parking lot is not a view. upgraded us to another room, check in is at 4:00 didn't get in until 7:15. They comped us with a bottle of Champagne for our anniversary. Told us our room was ready at about 6 went to get the keys she said she made a mistake wasn't ready, told us to go back to the bar comped us 2 drinks. Next day we were gone from 8am until 4:15. Went to the room it wasn't cleaned up, I said just give us fresh towels. (Check in is at 4:00). Went to the Steak House that night said they were totally booked Lots of empty tables, had to wait until 8:30 said to got to the bar and they would call if something opened up.Called after about 15 min. they had a table for us, must have been a notation in the computer that we had problems. They comped us 2 desserts.
Review 17:A room with a view is not behind over grown trees at least it wasn't a parking lot.
Review 18:Our room, 1116, was so far away from everything. Carpeting was dirty.Coffee maker was missing a part and then when a different one wasbrought in 30 min. , it was very dusty and needed to be cleaned.
Review 19:The Chophouse was great.
Review 20:The appearance of the hallways and particularly the carpeting in our lodge was a bit "weathered" but clean. Could not enjoy the pool nor the outdoor fire pit because you could not get a chair despite several tries.
Review 21:Great restaurants, helpful staff, beautiful property. Nice distance to travel and feel like you were really on a vacation.
Review 22:To whom this may concern, Two thumbs up for manager Brian Novak!!! My son Danny and I was treated pretty rudely when checking in on Sunday by the front desk clerk and we mentioned it to Brian Novak front desk manager at check out Monday. He was very accommodating as was the staff at the pool and cleaning/maintenance crews. Brian comped us two breakfast buffets Monday AM and the food was out of this world but I have to say the service was extremely unexceptionally bad! First we had to ask bus boy for water and drinks because no one waited on us? After half way though our buffet meal one of the waitress staff finally took note and waited on us. We overheard the argumentative and inappropriate conversation between the two waitress and the one originally assigned to our table did not want to wait on us? Not sure what the issue is with this resort??? Wisconsin hiring issue or just plain prejudice judgment from people/staff working at the Grand Geneva resort? I would not be surprised if the Grand Geneva resort is hit with a State/Federal civil discrimination lawsuit sometime in the near future if they did n't already. For the most part we had a good time but I feel like the front desk clerks and restaurant staff needs better training on customer satisfaction and maybe some updated discrimination sensitivity training... Best regards,
Review 23:Public areas in dire need of updating. Operations in the various parts of the property are not linked and frankly counter productive to the enjoyment of the guests. Some of the staff are not engaged in serving the guests. Could be great, but just so-so.
Review 24:Greta location, very good golf courses
Review 25:The layout of the complex is not appealing. Parking is difficult as they host several weddings on the weekends and all the spots are filled. Lucky to be able to park near room. The carpet looked dingy and stained in several areas.
Review 26:The view behind the hotel is great! The Starbucks in the lobby is great!
Review 27:Dinner at the chop house was very good but very pricey. Dinner for 2 with 3 glasses of wine and one shared dessert $182.00.
Review 28:Spa and outdoor pool very relaxing just what we were looking for.
Review 29:Facilities were older but somewhat updated. There weren't any water sports (eg. Canoeing, paddle boats).
Review 30:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Everything was clean and nice.
Review 31:I cut my lip on a glass at the chop house so I could really enjoy my anniversary dinner
Review 32:The rooms were beautiful ! The grounds and the staff were excellent!
Review 33:Coffee was not replenished on both days. The second day housekeeping came at about 4:30PM and they told us they had no towels left and we would have to request towels. People were in the hallway at night, they were very loud.
Review 34:Location was not far from Lake Geneva.
Review 35:Our Spa experience was just ok not as good as I thought it would be. My friend's massage was not the full time she booked and we were disappointed that the staff didn't inform either of us where we were after our massage ended. Each of us were waiting in different areas for one another. After waiting for about 20 minutes, I went back to the locker room and saw she was dressed. It didn't make sense to undress and go back at that point.
Review 36:Every meal was delicious!! There was no need to go off site to eat. The facility is well maintained. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.
Review 37:The signage for restaurants bars and buildings were difficult to find and follow. No elevators. Wish we had known that when we booked as my husband has COPD and a heart condition.
Review 38:The views were wonderful. Very elegant
Review 39:The rooms are old, outdated furnishings with stained carpets. I couldn't wait to checkout and enjoy the grounds.
Review 40:The grounds are beautiful and well kept.
Review 41:Room could use updating and the buildings. Hallways desperately need updating!
Review 42:The staff and service was great. The poolside waitresses worked hard and made our afternoon at the pool terrific. The italian restaurant was impeccable as was the steakhouse.
Review 43:Unfortunately, there were many snobby guests there that were not pleasant to be around.
Review 44:the staff was wonderful, and very tolerant of not nice guests. the rooms were large and had comfy beds. the grounds are beautiful and maintained well.
Review 45:Loud guests next door. There should be better soundproofing in room.
Review 46:Location, comfortable room, great service. Television in bathroom mirror was a nice touch.
Review 47:The fact that you have to pay additional money to get wristbands to the water park per day, I think it should be included with the stay.
Review 48:The view of the hotel was beautiful! Especially the golf course and the lake!
Review 49:First of all I decided to go for the balcony and the view and I live inchicago. So I took me about 2 hours to get there. I was surprised thenthat I coudnt see anything but the trees from my room. The lady at theregistration should've told to choose another room. How I supposeto know that there are trees on the balcony and no view at all. Whenyou had an option for lake view I paid more to get it! The breakfastwas not that great and it was expensive for no reason. I was reallyupset from the view but anyway I will give you a good rate. Plz informyour staff before they tell the guests to chose tell them in which oneyou can see the lake!
Review 50:Everything is nice the room the bed and the view (not from the room)Food not bad for lunch!
Review 51:should not have to pay a resort fee, checked in at 4pm and out at 6am. Just include in room rate. Would have paid higher rate.
Review 52:The staff was great, Steakhouse food was above average.
Review 53:The parking and going in and out with luggage was a little complex at first without the assistance of a bellman. I would have hoped for a more casual coffee/light breakfast option besides a starbucks, but it was fine.
Review 54:We loved the pool and outdoor gas fire pit. It was a great way to end an evening with or without children. The restaurants looked very upscale and inviting too.
Review 55:Check-in time of 4:00PM is way too late, especially if you have kids or pets with you.
Review 56:The hotel was lovely. The grounds are lovely. The hotel staff is very nice. We loved the spa! We are from Chicago and the Grand Geneva is just over one hour away, very easy to get to.
Review 57:The bed was not comfortable for me nor for my wife. We both complained about it in the morning.
Review 58:The amenities at the location plus the proximity to Lake Geneva and the downtown shops.
Review 59:We were placed in between two rooms that we're having a fraternity party (literally). There was unbearable noise and hallway streakers. Obviously this is not necessarily the hotel's fault, however, after multiple complaints and calls to the desk, nothing was done or compensated. The cost of an entire night of not being able to sleep or rest damaged the rest of our vacation day. During the morning check out process, there once again was nothing compensated for or even a simple apology for the uncontrolled guests. Sadly, our high hopes and excitement for the hotel and name have now been tarnished and extremely let down.
Review 60:We enjoyed the facilities and the location to the Lake.
Review 61:When arriving in our room - two lights were burnt out in the bathroom. Called desk repaired within 15 minutes. On the last day while opening the room darkening curtains - the rod totally striped out from the ceiling. Reported it to the desk.
Review 62:Very comfortable beds and pillows. The view from our room was marvelous.
Review 63:We would have liked a top sheet on the bed. The comforter was really hot and we woke up multiple times either hot or cold.
Review 64:Chophouse food most really great.
Review 65:The hallways and stairs needed much updating and/remodeling. The carpet was nasty and dirty. Bathroom lighting was awful.
Review 66:Staff was very friendly. The bed was nice and comfy.
Review 67:The bartenders were a joke! From soap scum on the wine glasses too sticky martini glasses, keep in mind we paid 11.00 dollars for each Martini, and every time we ordered another one it always tasted different. They are loosing money with their terrible bartenders and bar servers. SMH Also, to the management don't be afraid to have a little some diversity when it comes to you team!
Review 68:I liked the cleanliness of the room. The bed was very comfortable. The pool and the food was great. The prime rib and crab legs were awesome at the buffet. The jazz band playing in the lobby lounge area was very elegant.
Review 69:The staff needs to do a better job of enforcing the 'adults only' areas of the spa. We know it's a kid friendly resort.but when you say youtb aren't alowed in certain areas of the spa, it should.be enforces. We saw a baby, literally, in the spa are pool. I mean seriously, how relaxing is a baby in the spa area?
Review 70:The staff was impeccable; from check in thru check-out. Food was very good and the property although well maintained, the property is a little tired.
Review 71:The layout had us walking a lot but it was still a nice experience. And we had a complaint of our music being too loud even though it was only 930 or so.
Review 72:The staff was beyond wonderful. Everyone in all parts of the resort was friendly.
Review 73:Friday night around 2-3 o'clock was woken up by a group of guys that had to much to drink. They were loud and banging on the walls and doors. Did not appreciate that at all.
Review 74:The cafe could offer more choices...not enough casual dining. The buffets were pricey.
Review 75:Everything. My 13-year old son loved the room-especially the tv in the bathroom! I wish I could afford to transform my bed room into this spa-like retreat!
Review 76:The extra charge to use the Geneva Club wasn't worth the extra cost for two people.
Review 77:It's a beautiful property and everything is right there. I liked that they also had an indoor pool.
Review 78:They should pave the winding road, extras were quite expensive, like the Spa. Booked a pedicure and the actual massage chair was not very comfortable although the service was nice however with a final price tag of $100 felt a bit of a rip off (including mandatory 20% tip). $25 per day per person for the Waterpark, including my 18 mo. son, fair to pay something but didn't realize he'd be full fare.
Review 79:Really nice facilities, peaceful location, clean room. Great, accommodating staff in the Grand Cafe and Evolve bar. Nearby town was a great escape for delicious breakfast at Egg Harbor Cafe and walking along the lake in chilly Spring weather.
Review 80:The breakfast buffet was good, but very pricey. I have a hard time paying $19pp for breakfast. The wifi was slow.
Review 81:The property was beautiful and staff were very pleasant
Review 82:Wi-fi service and cell service spotty. Wi-fi often slow. Cell service not available or weak at many locations on site. Cost to use on-site waterpark prohibitive.
Review 83:Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Everyone eager to please and pleasant. Indoor things to do when the weather isn't good. Great outdoor atmosphere when the weather is good. Close to town and major highways. Recommend "Geneva Club" add-on for families with kids -- it saves plenty of money!
Review 84:We upgraded to junior suite. Had asked for two beds and had to use pull out. Also fireplace didn't work.
Review 85:The spa, the staff and the property were great.
Review 86:If we had not purchased the club house, we would be eating out everyday. Too afraid to walk in the chop house manager was loud and intimidating.
Review 87:Pool area was fine with ping-pong and toss bag. We really enjoyed the iive music and the spa. Wish we could have ridden the horses, but the weather was not permittable.
Review 88:Hallways and stairwells never seemed freshly vacuumed over our entire stay. Bathroom tub was extremely small - you hit your elbow on the wall during a shower - seems like it was redone with an acrylic overlay then safety bars added - no room and I'm average sized. Rain shower head nice but too big for the width of smarting so water leaked out easily which made for a near miss fall for my daughter. Took almost 20 minutes to check in because two different guests in front of us had declining credit cards. They should have called for extra help so we didn't have to wait so long while they resolved it.
Review 89:TV behind mirror in bathroom was neat.
Review 90:The pool closed an hour early with no warning. Kids wanted to swim a little longer!
Review 91:Restaurant had wonderful food and excellent service for a large party.
Review 92:No complaints at all. A wonderful property!
Review 93:We had a wonderful time at the Grand Geneva. The hotel is just gorgeous and so well maintained. We had a lakeside walkout room with an amazing view. Our son enjoyed the pool and the breakfast buffet is absolutely delicious! We took the trolley to the stables and our son enjoyed a pony ride and the petting zoo. The fitness center and Spa are top notch. The fitness center was so nice it made working out fun. We will be back again and soon!
Review 94:Tried to make brunch reservations when I booked the room but was sold out. Should hold some spots for guests staying at the hotel rather than taking reservations from outsiders.
Review 95:I liked how close it was to the downtown area. Want to definitely come back and check out the skiing. We also loved the tv built into the bathroom mirror. Wish I had one at home.
Review 96:Asked for a room with a view and balcony when booking and got neither. We were put in a ground floor heavy traffic room by the door and it was loud.
Review 97:Jazz music, dining experience, room was fairly comfortable.
Review 98:Could use additional kid/teen activities. Geared towards couples or adult groups. Under staffed at Geneva Cafe. Decided to leave after long wait to even be asked for drink order after being seated for dinner. Hostess was overwhelmed and not friendly. Could use some updating - very dark decor and lighting in lobby and common areas.
Review 99:Great location near downtown. View of golf course and lake are very nice. Spa facilities are very nice and staff is outstanding!
Review 100:A lot of noise in the halls at night. Maid service could have been better.
Review 101:The fitness center was nice with classes and a variety of work out equipment. The property is very pretty.
Review 102:The bathroom was very cold, the floor felt like ice and there was no heating vent.
Review 103:Atmosphere, cleanliness, comfortable bed, TV mirror, quiet and relaxing.
Review 104:We were very unhappy with the food served. It was poor quality and not very hot. Coffee in the shop and restaurant needs improvement. Coffee tastes like an old ashtray! Also I asked in advance for a room near the lobby and got one farthest from.
Review 105:Staff are very accommodating and helpful. Rooms are wonderful.
Review 106:Noisy guests parading through hallways after midnight. The one thing to make this perfect would be better soundproofing
Review 107:Room was very nice. Comfortable bed, good temperature control
Review 108:Food at hotel's restaurants - not so many choices and slow service.
Review 109:Wonderful location, great ambiance, very comfortable bedding. Great short vacation spot for families with children.
Review 110:Room located in literally highest foot traffic part of hotel. (Perhaps that's why the rate was so awesome) Drunk people literally screaming in hallways when bars closed at 2:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Skiing more than 2 hours gets repetitive on the small slopes. The "xmas lights trolley tour" was a joke, only recommend for parents with very small children. Two people could easily spend $200 on food everyday. Could hear occupants of adjacent room on nights it was occupied. Driving/Parking was a nightmare on Saturday night.
Review 111:Room was right next to pool. The Chain Breaker White IPA at the bar in the lobby was delicious. Request for late checkout was approved with no hassle. Had ski slopes to myself after 3 pm. Service was prompt and courteous. Food was all very delicious. Fast, reliable, Wi-Fi at no additional cost.
Review 112:....except the fact that the rooms were so HOT and you couldn't cool them off. Our whole group had a very poor sweaty night of sleep.
Review 113:Love the Christmas mood, the decorations, just everything, except.....
Review 114:Nature walking path was 1/2 mile and cuts through parking lots ......so the only way to enjoy the setting is to golf or just stare at it through the window Rooms were surprisingly lacking soundproofing ......we were able to hear our neighbor very clearly .......nothing like listening to the guy talk about graphs and stats at 530am...uggghh
Review 115:Wonderful country setting
Review 116:There should be an extra chair in the deluxe double rooms so 2 people have a place to sit.
Review 117:Everyone was friendly and professional. The resort and grounds are beautiful and very close to the town of Lake Geneva. The lake view rooms definitely preferred to court view (really the parking lot).
Review 118:Wish the outdoor pool was more spacious for the amount of people staying at the resort.
Review 119:All the staff was very friendly & helpful at all times. Resort had a lot of activites to do within its facility.
Review 120:Only one complaint, pool was closed at noon for a private party on Sunday!
Review 121:We needed a place to relax and with option to "do something", Grand Geneva was the place. We had a very nice room, a pool, fitness center, a restaurant, a Srsrbucks and horse saddle!
Review 122:Bed was sunken on one side and high on the other. Blood stain on sheet. Wi fi didn't work. Breakfast room service door handle menu so confusing. Didn't order because it appeared everyone had to order the same thing for triple cost. Twenty bucks for 3 eggs each. Cool tv in bathroom mirror however it wouldn't work when we actually wanted to use it. Shower filled with a foot of water when used due to bad plumbing. Also, no hot water left after one shower. My husband took a cold one. Lastly the carpet in the halls throughout hotel is gross and smelly! Gave the space a sour maple syrup smell. Advice, spend money on new carpet and not TVs in the bathroom. Not what I would expect for the cost per night.
Review 123:The pool area. The breakfast buffet. The chophouse.
Review 124:The only thing I didn't like was that some of the staff was unfriendly and a little uppity!! Most were really great and helpful especially the outside bar and restaurant staff.
Review 125:I love the room, the beds, the linens, the spa was super along with classes that were wonderful, restaurants were great and wonderful staff. Area was awesome and the whole experience was great.
Review 126:Bed was somewhat uncomfortable. they could use some new mattresses. They tried to put a top quilt between the bottom sheet and the mattress. Helped a little. The indoor pool and the sauna both had too much chlorine.
Review 127:Room was great, clean with plenty of room. Service was great. Employees were very helpful and seemed to care about our comfort, that we were happy and taken care of. Food was good at the many restaurants. Lobby was beautiful. Golf course is beautiful as is the resort grounds. Very romantic! The resort has many things to do and is also very close to the city of Lake Geneva with many more things to do.
Review 128:Staff were incredibly welcoming in both the main lodge and the spa. The spa was top notch, nice to see that it is restricted to older teenagers and adults. There is something to do for all age groups. The facility is well maintained both inside and out.
Review 129:Very pricey... Tried to eat at the breakfast buffet but the lady said there was a half hr wait, ans clearly no one was waiting And there were more than 8 tables open.
Review 130:It has a lot To do for everyone of all ages
Review 131:little pricey, room wasn't completely clean for early check in
Review 132:people, facilities
Review 133:Need more elevators. Stairs are a killer
Review 134:Staff and entertainment. Decorations
Review 135:Not a thing.
Review 136:Haven't stayed in that campus for 20+ years. Still just as lovely. Food from Chop house was outstanding.
Review 137:Paying $15/day for activities when we didn't use any.
Review 138:The bedding was super comfortable! And the location is beautiful.
Review 139:Great place to stay for 20th Anniversary! Staff made are stay extra special! Plan to stay again!
Review 140:The architecture and landscape design are stunning.
Review 141:Friendly helpful staff. Very comfortable. Great location. Excellent meal in the Italian restaurant.
Review 142:Put us in room facing parking lot when I paid for golf course and pool view. Did adjust bill $50 to satisfy us
