Reviews for Austria Hof Lodge
Review 1:Can hear all guests on sides and above, plus food smells from the ground restaurant all night. Hot water for showers was extremely limited--took more than a few cold showers!
Review 2:Walk to the lifts, good breakfast, and nice views!
Review 3:The towels were rough like sand paper and the bath towels were way too small......totally unacceptable to charge four star prices for two start comfort. The mattress and linens also need to be updated. Such a small cost to the hotel relative to the overall guest experience.
Review 4:Location location location.....Also dinner in the the restaurant was great and convenient.
Review 5:Had to wait a little bit for the hot water in the shower
Review 6:Room was comfortable, very clean and quite. The staff was very pleasant and very helpful in pointing out places to go and sights to see. The location for non-winter activity was great, away from the traffic and noise of the city, but only a quick drive or an nice walk from the village
Review 7:no view, wi fi didn't work, long stairs---hard to haul up luggage-----long way to stores and restaurants
Review 8:very nice and clean----we were there in the summer and I think this place is probably very nice for skiers----good breakfast in nice room. Affordable.
Review 9:The continental breakfast was okay but the coffee was not.
Review 10:It is away from town but not too far. The proximity to skiing is great. Attentive, friendly, and ready service
Review 11:This hotel is not a place to stay during the off season...limited services as everything is closed for the season. Breakfast was mediocre and the utensils were so cheap they would bend near breaking before we could spread butter on toast. A good cleaning would do the place good...carpets especially.
Review 12:Very, very nice. Fully equipped condo. Comfortable furniture. Bed sleeps like a cloud. Quiet. You may have to park on the street. You must remove ALL food from your car to keep away the bears! Would book again. Rm 49, interior entrance.
Review 13:Parking on slope, limit exit/enterance, make moving stuffs hard. room is much smaller than show on picture, pretty crammed. Interior is not much Austrian look and not much decoration. Shower in water is in small volume. No A/C. Not very sound proof. No elevator. No good window view, and can't really open the window due to the room is like in the back basement.
Review 14:It's cozy, staff are friendly. European look alike.
Review 15:Dirty carpet in lobby, breakfast area not supervised had to go find someone to make coffee, five story building with NO elivator
Review 16:Friendly staff, good food, very comfortable room
Review 17:We selected this hotel based on booking.com suggestion as an hotel to stay in when visiting Yosemity park. We bokjes 2 nights with the intention of visiting the park on 2 days. The hotel is however located 3,5 hrs from the park, therewith making it a very long drive. We decided in stead of going to Yosemity to go to mammoth lakes. Which was nice, but not near as nice as Yosinety. The hotel was also very hot and there was no aircon.
Review 18:Beautifull location
Review 19:Our room was on top floor (3rd Floor) NO elevator! NO air-conditioning We felt that at our age, if a fire were to sweep through this lodging, we'd NEVER make it out in time. Both my riding buddy and I are in our late 70's. He had a quad by-pass not long ago and I have serious asthma (chronic). By the time we reached our room with our luggage, it was all we could do to breathe. At 8000+ elevation, it was tough. A LOT of stairs! I had NO idea that this lodge did NOT have an elevator when I booked. I thought that California building codes required a structure over 2-stories to have an elevator.. We should have been given an entry-level room. It was a very hot day and our room (being on the top floor) was also very hot. NO A/C.. This lodge has a VERY strict cancelation/change policy. We felt that we would be penalized if we requested a change to our room assignment. Had the lodge had an elevator and A/C, it may have been priced right. Without these, it was over-priced.. A real shame..
Review 20:Clean.. Comfortable beds. Very nice Continental breakfast!
Review 21:It's a bit outdated and the rooms could use some renovation.
Review 22:Nice location, friendly staff, the place has all the things you need for a nights stay.
Review 23:Nothing
Review 24:Jakuzi was very enjoyable in a cold weather under the full moon. Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Dinner was perfect too.. Thanks very much for everything :))
Review 25:-we woke up in the middle of the night by a german group that arrived in 04:00 . it took 45 minutes to someone to get to the lobby and give them rooms!!! I was very ungry during our checkout but all I got back from them is the word sorry
Review 26:If you are staying here as a base for Yosemite then it's a 2 hour drive to the main part of the park.
Review 27:Staff were really friendly. Food was good. Happy hour was a treat. The hot tub was nice to relax in the evening
Review 28:We've been here in September and the town seemed pretty dead. Notmuch to do besides some hikes. I assume it different in the winter. Thehotel it self looks pretty old. The carpets are worn how. It had acontinental breakfast with zero variety. Alot of times the coffee wascold, while the eggs were served cold always. But i think the biggest complaint I have about the place was the internet. My God! When you check in,you actually sign a document, where you acknowledge that you are aware of the fact that the internet is going to suck. But this is the understatement. You basically get hardly any internet in the rooms (we were at 3 floor). And even when the wifi connectivity seems to be at maximum, you can hardly make a normal skype call.
Review 29:The hotel it self is ok. Nothing else. The staff was nice.
Review 30:Small bathroom and there is no view in the opposite rooms from the front and you can hear at night stepping sound when people climb up the stairs. Better ask for a room in the second floor and facing front.
Review 31:Friendly staff and environment.
Review 32:The restaurant in the hotel is ridiculously expensive while the quality is only average and it closes pretty early. The hotel doesn't have an elevator so we broke the suitcase while trying to drag it up the stairs.
Review 33:The staff was kind and the hotel was clean and room comfortable.
Review 34:Upon entering smelled a little musty and appeared a little run-down. One towel in bathroom torn/tattered and the stairwell to the lower restaurant had heavily soiled carpets.
Review 35:Friendly staff, great location and nice bar area with excellent appetizers.
Review 36:Wifi didn't seem to work (weak to no signal on second floor); continental breakfast was nearly pointless based on meager offerings, appreciate the idea, but concept needs an upgrade (more whole foods, fruits, granola/oatmeal, fresh juice)
Review 37:Friendly staff, quick check-in/out
Review 38:No elevator.
Review 39:Had a huge room with a king size bed. Very cozy and lots of room move around. The room also had a fireplace. Restaurant and bar downstairs, excellent food at the bar! Good continental breakfast.
Review 40:we found the hotel as being near Yosemite (booking says: Yosemite Village: 53,6 km) This is as the bird flys - as the car drives it is 160 km or 2,5h
Review 41:Nice cosy hotel, probably great in winter
Review 42:Staff very kind. We arrived quite late and they hold the special dinner option to allow us to choose it if we wished. And food was good! We had asked for a room with a nice view and they satisfied our request. We loved the hot tub! It is a quiet place on the edge of the town and really near to the sky facilities. Definitively would go back if I'll have the opportunity to go to Mammoth Lakes in winter.
Review 43:did not know that this was a walk-up..3 flights. tv cable company a problem. designed for winter nights. no ceiling fan. room was stuffy on third floor. If I were young and a skier, this place would work. I'm a senior and it was the end of August.
Review 44:charming inn. staff was good.
Review 45:Prices were higher than we usually pay, but the quality was good.
Review 46:Room to spread out as a family. Nice pool. Nice to have a kitchen area to prepare food.
Review 47:This place has really friendly staff and a very comfortable setting. The food was also amazing! They have one of the longest happy hours in town too. We stayed in summer but this place would be awesome in the winter as it's right next to the hill! The only downside was the wifi basically didn't work in our room. Front desk said they were currently fixing though so I'm sure it would be good-to-go now. I would definitely recommend this place.
Review 48:On arrival we were given room 103. Do not accept this room; it is in the carpark and is hostel standard (fridge and wardrobe in bathroom, a locked mystery door to somewhere, small, etc.). I am not sure what the other rooms were like. On complaining we were offered an apartment, which was of the standard we would expect for the price paid. The coffee at breakfast was hardly drinkable. We also thought the use of paper plates was tacky and non-friendly to the environment, not at all what one would expect at a business that feeds off its natural surroundings.
Review 49:The apartment we changed to was great. If we had stayed at the hotel (room 103) my rating would be very poor.
Review 50:Hotel is rather "dark" and not welcoming. Very basic and expensive for what it is...the Motel 6 in town is a better value. If you are a skier, then the location is great as it is at the base of the mountain and you can walk to a ski lift. However there is a ski lift in the center of the village as well and the village area is much more pleasant. You need to drive to the village for restaurants, etc.
Review 51:How dated it was. And we weren't told that we weren't actually staying at the hotel.
Review 52:4 person room (condo) was across the street. Extremely dated. Tiny tiny bathroom. Good location. During ski season great location.
Review 53:Filthy worn out carpeting. Hot tub dirty and cover rotting away. Fridge in room difficult to access in closet. No AC - hot in summer. Breakfast open at 7:30 which is late for summer sports people. No elevator so lugging baggage up flights of stairs.
Review 54:Friendly staff, great bar and happy hour. Comfy bed.
Review 55:Liked everything.
Review 56:Having spend the last few weeks in hotel rooms the Austria Hof was a gem. A cosy well furnished apartment with a real kitchen With big oven, full size fridge freezer. Two televisions... All you could ever want for a holiday. Alas we were only here for 2 nights. We had access to the clubhouse: pool, 2 Jacuzzis,Sauna, pool table.bbq area. Heaven. Definitely recommend. august is the quiet time so in the ski season I can imagine the place buzzing
Review 57:The outside balcony gives a direct view in the rooms. No fridge in the room, neither microwave.
Review 58:Laundry available in the block next door. The breakfast was good. Room clean and comfy. In winter it gives an excellent location, close to ski runs.
Review 59:Room was small, we had a view of a wall.
Review 60:Location. At the end of the street down the hill, turn right on the paved bike path for an epic ride with mountain scenery and lakes. Excellent restaurant with special pricing for guests.
Review 61:Our only problem was no lift (elevator) so we had to carry our luggage up 2 flights of stairs. Normally not a problem but at the high altitude, was a but of a struggle. An outside winch would solve this problem without going to the expense of a lift.
Review 62:Location was great. We enjoyed the Spa and the discounted meals offered to guests. The staff were friendly and helpful and the bar was great.
Review 63:The rom was stinky. The breakfast was very poor also according to the American standard. The free WiFi was useless. There was a problem with the room keys. Had to go down to the reception (2 floors) 4 times before one of the hotel staff came and opened the door. She only said: "Sorry".
Review 64:We were offered a special dinner price which was excellent as was the generous portion of food ! It was delicious. Our room was spacious, clean, and quiet. Also enjoyed the happy hour and atmosphere !
Review 65:Our room was on the ground floor, and the staff of the hotel/ bar was quite noisy after their shift. It was pretty hot and we had to close the window.
Review 66:Beautiful hotel and a beautiful location.
Review 67:bathroom is very small rooms don't have much daylight
Review 68:good restaurant and nice bar clean room very friendly staff recommended for people on roadtrip next to Yosemite
Review 69:my wife was locked out in the bathroom so i had to get staff with tools so they can open the bathroom door.imagine if there was nobody in the room.
Review 70:breakfast
Review 71:Where do I start. No A/C or ceiling fan. No microwave. Had a no so pleasing odor in entrance. Breakfast was included in price but a big disappointiment. Not one hot item. I don't think I'll stay there again but it's a great place for skiers in the winter as it is steps away from Mammoth Ski lift.
Review 72:Bed was ok
Review 73:The pool, sauna, and arcade/lounge area closed at 10pm. The guy who closed it was kinda creepy too, he kept watching me and my bf while we were in the jacuzzi until my bf started telling him to buzz off.
Review 74:Great place to stay, clean, perfect location for nature lovers, great staff, wood was always available!
Review 75:Breakfast was not allowed to be taken into rooms. Had to eat in the breakfast area. Couldn't bring sleeping son food because he was in the room sleeping. We understand people abuse free food but how much can you really take back to your room :) understand the rules were made by people who abused it in the past.
Review 76:It was convenient. Nice staff. Clean. Quiet. Close to ski lifts. Can see how that can be great for Winter time. We stayed during summer time though.
Review 77:Too soft of pillows. Bathroom door is crazy to get in and out. Very tight quarters. Carpets in main building extremely dirty. It's nice there was a continental breakfast but my coffee was ciold. Benches hard to get into, especially for older folks.
Review 78:Friendly staff
Review 79:The blanket or quilt is too thick for summer time.but it's too cold without it.
Review 80:I booked a one bedroom apartment, the setting is great for a family.
Review 81:We did not make it on our original check in date, because of car trouble and management refuse to work with me on a change of dates.
Review 82:The condo was very clean and about 5 min from various lakes. Staff was nice and friendly.
Review 83:There is no elevator, and we were told to remove all food from the car because of problem bears, so schlepping our luggage, food bag, and ice chest up three flights of stairs at 8400-foot elevation was pretty exhausting for us retired folks. Mammoth doesn't usually require AC, but we arrived in a heat wave, and it was quite warm in our room on the third floor.
Review 84:It was in a nice location with a lovely view.
Review 85:Too many stairs. Should warn people that there are many stairs. Bathroom very very tight with no place to place even a brush.
Review 86:Great restaurant and excellent food. Room was small but very comfy.
Review 87:Can only find one little niggle. The WiFi was a bit intermittent, otherwise a great place to stay.
Review 88:The location was perfect for us. The staff, particularly reception, were extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 89:The stairs were difficult to navigate with luggage in hand. Breakfast supplies needed to be replenished in a more timely manner.
Review 90:The view was beautiful. The bed was comfortable. Check in staff was courteous and friendly. Rooms were clean and fresh.
Review 91:I wish it was a bit more lively to give it a more authentic feel. Plus the bar/restaurant was only seasonal which was a bummer.
Review 92:I loved the look and atmosphere.
Review 93:The room was freezing when we checked in at 8:30 p.m., and the temperature outside was in the 30's, the window was wide open... The lights didn't work on one side of the room, and it was too late to get any help it closes at 9:00 or at least it did that night. The floors creak on ceiling from room on upper floor.
Review 94:The beds were very comfortable and the homemade granola for breakfast was super!
Review 95:There wasn't anything I didn't like.
Review 96:There was 6 of us and we were able to fit comfortably, although I believe you can 8 people. Very clean and very accomodable.
Review 97:Location is great. Close to "The Village" and ski areas. Staff are welcoming and place is clean. Pretty good value as well. Wifi didnt work well though. Will stay again at this place next time.
Review 98:Too many stairs. Hotel does not have any elevators, and at the end of the day of riding and walking across the parking lot to your room, you must head up over 20 stairs to enter the hotel, another 10 to second floor, and 10 more to the third.
Review 99:Waled to and from lifts each day. Great breakfast spread each day (free). Very comfy beds and nice linens. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 100:I loved how close the Hof is to Canyon Lodge! The restaurant was awesome! You must try the Poke Salad, YUM!! The hot jacuzzi, with an awesome view, was the best! I didn't have to drive the whole weekend! Everything was right at hand or easily accessable through the Village Gondola. When hitting Mammoth, solo, I will definitely be returning!!!
Review 101:I found the night staff member to be condescending and rather rude. He was not helpful at all, but matter of fact as in, "if you don't like anything here, too bad." Additionally, there are not any elevators on the property.
Review 102:This is our second time staying at the Austria Hof. The rooms are very nice, and the location is a very short walk to Canyon Lodge. Plus, they have a 5 star restaurant on the property (and a very decent free continental breakfast). And lastly, the jacuzzi location gives you a full view of the mountain!
Review 103:Wifi shoddy, an epidemic all over Mammoth.
Review 104:Walkable to Canyon Lodge and chair lifts. Ski lockers. Great Happy Hour. Excellent food and options. Their comp salsa at HH is fantastic. Tacos on Tuesday huge and derish! Incredibly friendly staff.
Review 105:Everything was good except the cleaning staff in the morning were talking so loudly to each other that it woke me up. I realize that plenty of people had already left to the mountain but have some more respect for your guests sleep habits.
Review 106:Great value, large rooms with fireplace and TV. Rustic but comfy, would definitely stay again.
Review 107:Not much to dislike. Continental breakfast was unremarkable. Restaurant food was good but a bit overpriced.
Review 108:King room was very spacious, fireplace was a nice addition. Plenty of room to spread out ski gear.
Review 109:Our room was a bit small for three people so we'd get a condo next time
Review 110:Loved that it was walking distance from the slopes. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. The jacuzzi has a awesome view of the mountain. The restaurant was cozy and inviting. We went for dinner one night and it was excellent. Wonderful place and we would stay there again !
Review 111:Wifi was a bit slow but is enough to lookup things to do in town or check your email. Wish the hot tub was open later.
Review 112:Great location, outdoor hottub with a view, bar and restaurant on site.. Bed was comfy and room was clean. Overall a great experience and will definitely stay here again.
Review 113:Was never able to log on to the wifi. After several attempts I gave up and so did my dad. It was only one day but had j been staging several it would have been a major issue.
Review 114:They could use some minor repairs and upkeep in the unit.
Review 115:Location right next to lifts. Condo had great kitchen and comfortable beds. Quiet complex. We had a great trip.
Review 116:The breakfast was mediocre in its quality of food. Compared to the accommodations it seemed to be a step down
Review 117:We pulled in late at night after looking for other places and we're very pleased that the accommodations and the generosity of the staff to upgrade us to a king-size room with the fireplace.
Review 118:Nothing worth mentioning.
Review 119:Lodge butted up against the wilderness yet was close to town. Loved the quaintness of the rooms and the real flame stone facade heater. Great value for the money. Staff was very friendly and honest (we left some items in closet and they immediately called to let us know).
Review 120:I booked a room with a fridge and first got a small room without a fridge. The receptionist guy first said they have no room with a fridge but when he better checked there was a fridge in the next room so he changed it.
Review 121:Staff was nice. The restaurant is great in the lodge
Review 122:The breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Very poor quality, lack of variety and paper dishes make up a setting that simply doesn't match a supposedly Austrian environment.
Review 123:The place is well located and, although a bit separate from the city center, allows to enjoy the view of the mountains and the freshness of its air. Moreover, the staff was very nice and helpful. The room was comfortable, and there we found a cozy and lovely environment. Definitely, we would come back.
Review 124:outdated a little dirty looking lobby area not very inviting. Rooms were OK but no air or heating! Could use updating!!! You could hear smell and see most of the work areas of the working of the hotel some of this was not pleasent.
Review 125:staff was nice and the view. Need updating-this is not what we expected.
Review 126:Deal through booking com had us in the least attractive room, entrance off side of car park and pretty dated. Wi-fi is free but not very reliable.
Review 127:Travelling through Mammoth in way to San Francisco, good location for mid way stop over and great place if have more time. Very relaxed vibe for a resort town. Hotel good location and comfortable.
Review 128:Our room happened to be on the lower level facing a concrete drive, and sometimes people would stand outside and talk (or have a smoke), which was a little annoying. Fortunately, we weren't there much, so this wasn't a huge issue.
Review 129:Our room was quite spacious and comfortable. I especially liked having a second sink available so one person could shower, and the other use the sink and mirror without fogging. As well, we really appreciated to have breakfast in the hotel included with the room fee.
Review 130:Very spacious room with super comfortable bed and fab linens. Staff id incredibly friendly, gracious and helpful. The restaurant bar is really fun in the even and has great food.
Review 131:Wifi was really so bad;therefore, it cannot be done anything with this wifi.. You have to wait for lond time to connect internet...
Review 132:Although breakfast was not so rich, it was good. Cleaning was so good and every day towels were changed. Location is good if you breathe fresh air, it can be stayed...
Review 133:Thin doors. We were staying on the bottom floor next to the storage room. It woke me up to hear voices of workers and opening and closing of door.
Review 134:I loved the front desk friendly attendants, helpful to make our stay the best with their recommendations to restaurants opened late upon a late arrival. We did love the complimentary continental breakfast and we did try happy hour. The bar tender-waiter was wonderful, food was great and quickly served and beer was so refreshing after a 5 mile hike.
Review 135:The staff was not very professional. Our dinner plans were disrupted when the restaurant closed earlier than it was supposed to. The quality of the wifi was very poor.
Review 136:I liked the quietness of the spot
Review 137:Breakfast very basic, also we were only few clients at the same moment and everythings was empty. Poor choice and bad quality of meal.
Review 138:Nice room, clean and comfortable.
