Reviews for The Charles Inn
Review 1:Owners are completely redoing the Inn and take pride in their place. Owners are very attentive to their customer's needs and want to make sure they are satisfied in every way.
Review 2:The owner was very helpful directing me to where I needed to go and gave me a valuable suggestion for my free time to see the free University art museum just a few blocks away.
Review 3:A few hours after we arrived, the hotel tore up the entire lobby without warning. That is where breakfast was supposed to have been. The receptionist even pointed to the lobby and said that's where breakfast would be the next morning. We received no notice of change of breakfast location. We tried to call reception to ask but no one answered nor was any receptionist to be found. Later (too late) we heard there was a notice in the elevator that breakfast was on 4th floor, but we didn't see the sign because we didn't use the elevator because it was faster to take the stairs one floor down. Also, the wi-fi didn't work in our room. Since the lobby was totally torn up with no where to sit (and workmen were using power tools) it was hard to find a place to access wi-fi. Disappointing experience and very poor (lack of) communication. The double bed was creaky; it didn't feel all that solid. We were only there one night.
Review 4:Location was good for seeing the best part of downtown Bangor.
Review 5:The hotel is old and worn out. The carpets, and facilities should be completely changed out. The shower surround had burn marks from someone smoking in the shower. I was completely shocked as it reminded me of the Booking.com commercials because it was one of the hotels that they claimed they do not reccomend. funny!
Review 6:Nothing
Review 7:Guest service excellent, Connie was warm, friendly and knowledgable of Bangor history and personally knew small business owners. Pleasantly surprised!
Review 8:Looking for a place to stay on relatively short notice, the only place we found was the Charles Inn. After driving to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, we saw many better properties that were better looking and a lot closer to where we really wanted to be. We were disappointed that these other properties were not listed.
Review 9:we didnt like the construction right in front of the inn.that was of course not mentioned .construction worked in the middle of the night.so we didnt get much sleep, the parking was inconvienent also .we were supose to stay there 3 nights but checked out after 1 day, construction will end in sept. unfortunate for the hotel.
Review 10:we thought the inn had character! built in the 1800s we were happy to see there was an elevator.the owner was very nice and a free breakfast was provided.
Review 11:In need of updating. Poor water pressure but beds are comfortable.
Review 12:The staff was very friendly and helpful. Quaint decor
Review 13:New owner, refurbishing nice room and right downtown
Review 14:Good party town even at age of 67. Within a few blocks music, seafood ,craft beers.
Review 15:Bedroom and shower curtains very old and torn. Uncomfortable bed, but OK for a one night stay.
Review 16:Location, cost, cleanliness
Review 17:Old and worn room, stained carpets in hallway, no soap provided.
Review 18:Walking distance to waterfront pavillion, comfortable bed.
Review 19:The European vibe to the place.
Review 20:Place was dirty and rundown. Facilities were in poor shape and not working.
Review 21:Location
Review 22:the worst hotel I've been to
Review 23:No parking
Review 24:No Hot water, thus no shower in the morning. Cable only had 2 channels. When front desk was called, I was told, "yeah we've being goingback & forth with dish network over this". (No hot waterwasn't discovered until the morning, and by that point, we justwanted to get out of there so we did not complain) a/c did not work.Had to open the windows (3rd floor) no screens on either window. (Bugs)Listened to sirens & drunks all night long due to the fact that wehad to leave the windows open. Paid $109 for a night of no sleep. Notworth the price of admission at all. The entrance to the lobby smellslike urine.
Review 25:the hotel is showing wear, hallway carpets are very dirty, room carpet also had spots and chair upholstery had a tear/hole in it . Overall apears "tired" , worn and a little dingy -- needs an update and good cleaning!
Review 26:location terrific and price good, interesting history to hotel , BUT it needs a face lift, quite tired looking at this point.Very pleasant and and helpful staff at desk, large room.
Review 27:facility was dingy and filthy. I found it loud. I had strangers use a key to enter my room. They were given that same room # . I was literally frightened while staying there. I will never stay there again
Review 28:My wife and I stayed here because it is in close proximity to the Waterfront Concerts venue, adjacent to the old downtown district. Accommodations are fairly priced, clean, and the owner/operator very pleasant and helpful. There are a variety of fine restaurants and shops also within walking distance. We would recommend it to others.
Review 29:My wife and I have no criticisma.
Review 30:It was a wonderful old hotel that was being restored by its owners. Great location and extremely friendly, courteous and attentive staff.
Review 31:It was ecclectic. It was very different than any place I have stayedbefore. Location was perfect! Rooms were very clean and made you feel asthough you were sleeping over at your grandmother's house...I Thinkthat's the best way to put it. The rooms make you feel very comfortableand at ease.
Review 32:Nothing at all. It's a very bad experience. The drapes are so old they had holes all through them. You couldn't flush the toilet. It was over a hundred degrees because of no a/c. Lumpy bed, loud music and I could go on.
Review 33:Nice staff and loved Hayley the dog. :-) I arrived late and it took a few minutes to get checked in, but the room was clean and quiet, which was just what I needed. It was inexpensive, no frills - pretty much what was expected for what I paid.
Review 34:The room was spacious, with elegant and comfortable furnishings. The location is right downtown, accessible to many things on foot.
Review 35:the free breakfast
Review 36:location
Review 37:No breakfast service. No hot breakfast offered, just cold stuff and paper/plastic tableware.
Review 38:the linens were torn and stained from being old.
Review 39:I like the location to the concert venue.
