Reviews for El Trovatore Motel
Review 1:We arrived during an unusual cold spell and our room was a bit chilly. It warmed up slowly but well.
Review 2:Very knowledgeable and helpful owner couple, terrific room décor, lots of closet space - and hangers. Bathroom is tiny, fixtures are old but function just fine.
Review 3:Even when letting it run for a while to make sure it's hot, the hot water in the shower comes and goes while in the shower.
Review 4:Wonderfully friendly staff; all the rave reviews are VERY well deserved!
Review 5:Thought it was a great place to stay, the person that checked us in was so great and knowledgable about the area! The out side of the hotel was worth seeing as part of Route 66.
Review 6:The most enjoyable experience of registering ever! Great stories about Kingman. Even saw a dog trick. The gentleman/owner was very helpful not only with history, but with recommendations for dinner and breakfast. The room was clean. The motel is 75 years old, so the bathroom isn't modern, etc., but that's the charm of the place. Very good value for the money.
Review 7:The owners are a delight! Could not be nicer or more personable. Will stay everytime I am in the area. Wonderful experience.. the rooms are old, of course but the place is so much fun and historical
Review 8:Sam, the owner, and his wife are awesome hosts , giving us the history of the motel as well as the area of Kingman. We had a blast, took so many pictures of the murals, and our "Marilyn Monroe " room. Very, very clean, close to a great steakhouse, and very affordable.
Review 9:Nothing. The owners/managers are on site and very attentive, friendly and this is a very safe, comfortable place to stay.
Review 10:This property is a RT 66 classic and a piece of history well restored to its glory.
Review 11:The Proprietor, Sam Frisher, and his wife are reasons to visit this motel in their own right. They are dedicated to preserving the character and folklore that comes with El Trovatore's history as a Route 66 landmark. Don't stay here if you want a clinical, modern chain hotel or, alternatively, want to be off the beaten track. Route 66 is the "beaten track" and businesses like El Trovatore epitomise that. If you love, character, kitsch, tall tales and heritage this is one of the places you stay at.
Review 12:All was good !
Review 13:History, atmosphere, and owners were Special. Fridge, microwave, cable, and WiFi were added amenities. Value and cleanliness were excellent.
Review 14:The hot water died on morning #2 of our stay and was only warm (not hot) through out the next day. I reported it twice. Also updated lighting is needed in the bathroom - it was hard to see needed details in poor lighting.
Review 15:The owners were very friendly and helpful. They have made an extraordinary effort to update a 1937 vintage motel. They have "themed" all the rooms entrance doors with cartoon characters and I liked it.
Review 16:If you can remember when Route 66 was the Mother Road, this motel on Andy Divine Avenue will delight you. The walls are covered with murals, the rooms are named for movie stars (we stayed in Audrey Hepburn) with pictures on the wall. The manager greeted us with stories about the area which were delightful. Overall this was a nostalgia trip worth taking.
Review 17:The nicest and most hospitable host which I've ever met! The owner and his wife gave us some advice about place to visit and eat, told us the city history and gave us a small present! The room was comfortable and well staffed. Whole motel and each room are decorated by owners and it looks good. You can see and feel true America of the 50-th in each detail.
Review 18:It's not the most luxurious place. If that's what you're into, skip it. If you want to experience an awesome piece of history and be told the story of the town by a local, come here.
Review 19:The owner of this place is amazing.
Review 20:We really needed a good shower but the water was week and couldnt hold warm long time. Super slow internet in the room. The noise from the fridge, from the ac and something else was immense. Not really necessary with a full kitchen with super big fridge and freeze if there is not a pan or nothing. :(
Review 21:Cool place, sweet owners. Really liked the bathroom style.
Review 22:Mildew. Rude.falling apart motel with a owner that believes mildew makes it antique.
Review 23:I was so showed to find this place actually got a 8.1 score. It was why we chose to stay there. The motel was so out dated and mildew and filth so bad in shower I had to lay towels on floor just to shower.... the owner said the rooms were themed rooms. Cheesy curtains old bedding from 30 years ago and 2 elvis pictures did not make this room a theme room. The owner was sloppy in the receptionist area with paper everywhere. And to my surprise when i paid cash .. he made change with a huge roll of money he his in a cereal box next to his huge pile of trash by his desk..... never again...
Review 24:Small rooms. Not enough space for stuff in bathroom.
Review 25:Much love here. Much work done on outside and inside decor. Lots of closets. Owner managed! Lots of stories.
Review 26:I can honestly say there isn't anything I didn't like .
Review 27:This is a very clean quite friendly hotel centraly located for the Kingman area looking forward to next year when the pool will be up and running What I like most of all is how quite it is there
Review 28:Bathroom was too small and looked outdated and felt not clean. We found 2 bugs in the sink.
Review 29:Ok for 1 night if you need a stop at Route 66. Theme room was a bit disappinting and the town is very boring in October. The best thing was the restaurant reccomandation by the really nice hotel guy: go to 60's style (in a nicely done way) "Mr D's Route 66 Diner". They have the BEST milkshakes! And burgers too.
Review 30:The bathrooms are charming but they really need a serious upgrade. The trainline is very close to the Motel and you can hear the noise from the bedroom.
Review 31:The owners are incredibly nice and helpful. They gave us lots of ideas on what to see in the area and where to eat and they were right on all fronts! The Motel is lovely and inspired to the area.
Review 32:The guys who are owning the motel are just amazing people. We've checked in very late but they've welcomed us with a load of awesome stories, maps and a little welcome gift. Their theme rooms are great decorated, old and traditional ... we enjoyed our stay a lot!!
Review 33:the place was run down after the stated renovation. Bathroom was very old, bad fixtures, entry door to room was worn and cracked. Office was a mess, terribly uninviting.
Review 34:Murals on the outside walls were interesting and the huge neon sign
Review 35:The painting of the motel walls (longest route 66 mural) and the neon decorations are really interesting and worth seeing. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and privided lots of information on the history of the town, recommendations on dining, etc. It's a historical motel and the current owners put of lot of effort (and surely money) in the restoration of the place. The bedroom was immaculately clean and very nicely furnished (we stayed in the Elvis room). The bathroom still needs some work, however, but I'm sure the owners will get around to improving this area soon as well.
Review 36:The bed was worn-out, and the shower has no light inside (which makes quite complicated having a shower by night)
Review 37:The hotel is picturesque. Every room is dedicated to a famous actor who has been there in the past. We where in the Clark Gable room.
Review 38:The bathroom needs some refurbishing, especially the shower.
Review 39:Lovely staff, very welcoming and really knowledgeable. The place is full of charm, really unique.
Review 40:Really nice hosts. They gave us tips about places in town and told us about the history of Kingman. The map of Route 66 on the walls is amazing. The King size bed was confortable. The hotel is really well located and is a typical route 66 place.
Review 41:We chose the location as just a stop on our trip to the Grand Canyon, but our hosts were so enthusiastic about Route 66 that they motivated us to travel that route all the way to seligman with many interesting pit stops along the way.
Review 42:The room and bathroom were dirty, the shower had mold in the corners, the bathroom window was broken, had been fixed with duct tape, and still had a 1/2" gap between the glass and broken window frame. The front door was not seated in the frame leaving a large gap that you could clearly see through, and bugs could get it. We chose not to stay. I would not recommend this "retro" motel to anyone.
Review 43:The owner is very friendly, he suggested us a resturant for the dinner and a very cool dining for the breakfast, he also suggested an amazing stretch of the Route 66. The style is very cool and no matter if the structure is quite old!
Review 44:Kingman lacks sense of town.. Found Mr D s for breakfast. Lacked interest in customers.
Review 45:Wonderful owner whose excitement and interest in Route 66 is very supportive. Very knowledgeable. Sent us to fantastic bar/restaurant for fab food.
Review 46:The motel owners have a real passion for the history of Kingman and route 66, when entering the motel (don't mind the messy reception) the owner took his time to explain the history of the town, route 66 and the motel. This hotel was a real discovery of our 3 wks trip in the US. the hotel is basic, but for this price you have more than you have than in other hotels and the stories you get are for free!
Review 47:Sam,the manager has a great knowledge about Route 66 and surrounding area. He gave me great tips on what to visit. Listening to his stories was like moving back in time.I would gladly stay in El Trovatore again.
Review 48:Nothing bad too say. Wish there were more places like this.
Review 49:The place is so unique. The owners/managers are so nice. Very very helpful, very knowledgeable about everything in Kingman. Including the history of the hotel from back in the old days of Hollywood, ROUTE 66 and WWII .Just wonderful. The place is older but it has character and history. It's been updated and is very clean. Rooms are very spacious with all the amenities you could need. The murals and paintings on the outside of the buildings are so cool.. Great place to stay. They have poured there heart and soul into it and it shows. Mini destination on its own. I WILL for sure stay there again.
Review 50:The staff were brilliant - engaging, informative & hugely friendly. Don't expect the latest fittings - this is a vintage establishment. If you're after that, this place is awesome.
Review 51:Dirty floor, bed , no light in shower place, bed bugs
Review 52:Its really not clear why the place recieved a high score. True - the host is great but other than that - everything else is terrible. Room, bed facilities not clean, even the floor is sticky. Shower has no light. My duaghter and wife did hardly sleep and found they where bitten by bed bugs. In short - not worth the money.
Review 53:They stiffed us. We made reservations in June, arrived August 2, and were told we did not have a room. Had to go somewhere else.
Review 54:Had high hopes for a bit of Route 66 nostalgia.
Review 55:bathroom was okay. bathtub is still there, but covered over, so not functional. refrigerator is right next to the bed, so with the A/C and fridge so close it can be a little noisy.
Review 56:room was comfortable and a good value
Review 57:We had to wait 10-15 minutes to even check in while the owner went on and on talking to some other clientele telling them what to see in the area. His wife stood there doing nothing. Once we did check in and saw the room, we turned around immediately, went to the office, told the woman there we were leaving . The room was disgusting and dirty. It was supposed to be thematic. It had 2 Clint Eastwood posters hanging on the wall - that was the theme. It had 2 Mandalay Bay trash cans in the room. I took photos. You wouldn't believe it! Anyone who rates this higher, has never stayed in a clean, decent motel. You are really doing your clients a disservice by giving it an 8.2 rating, which by the way, the motel proudly displays in its office.
Review 58:Leaving.
Review 59:Some parts of the rooms where still too old to be acceptable. The window of the room faced the entrance where everyone was walking along, but there where no light curtains for daytime, only the "full dark" once for sleeping, so no privacy
Review 60:It was interesting to see the different types of decorations in the rooms and the energy of the owners in managing the hotel
Review 61:You must not forget that it's just a very basic accomodation. Do not expect anything else than a room... and a really warm approach. The whole property already old, but reasonably well maintained and made unforgettable by application of "naive art" paintings applied everywhere.
Review 62:Owner is a great/entertaining guy with a very personal approach. Everybody must pass a Kingman Induction training directly from him, which feels a bit strange in a beginning, but found it very useful later on. Generally we all enjoyed the stay.
Review 63:Nothing
Review 64:Lovely owners who can tell you a lot about the neighbourhood. Great clean and big rooms that are nicely styled and add to your route 66 experience!
Review 65:Pool was empty of water even though it was July and 100 degrees. No ice machine. Reception closed in the morning so no one to ask.
Review 66:Nostalgic original Route 66 motel with great neon sign and nice rooms. Helpful staff and handy location between downtown and the newer strip. Good wifi
Review 67:The owner of this property is so friendly and funny. The rooms were very clean and the bed was very comfortable. It was quiet as well, which is not something we've been used to!
Review 68:The bathroom was a train wreck. Have photos if you'd like to see. A little weird and creepy. "Scenic view" stated in back looked like a dumping ground...except for the jack rabbit
Review 69:People were nice. Comfy bed. Good tv
Review 70:Everything was excellent
Review 71:Great place to stop on Route 66, owners Sam and his wife were great company full of local knowledge. The motel is decorated in original fittings so not luxurious but a real window into the route 66 era. This was the most enjoyable of stays on our road trip and I fully recommend a visit. We discussed their future plans and look forward to visiting again when we next visit the area to see the next stage in their plans, this motel should be a must for anyone driving parts of Route 66.
Review 72:The stay is a whole experience! Our check in included the interesting history of Kingman and we even received a route 66 pin! The theme rooms make the motel even nicer. We were Lucky to get. the Elvis room. We loved it!
Review 73:The sparsely decorated rooms lacked any feel of comfort or welcome. What furniture there was looked second hand and uncoordinated. There wasn't comfortable seating in the rooms and the bathroom plumbing was in poor repair.
Review 74:Fun atmosphere. Charming Innkeeper. Comfortable beds.
Review 75:Old motel from a bygone era that was a fun place to stay. Definitely not a chain motel. Room was in good shape. Owners were on site and gave me some travel/touring suggestions for the following day. Would definitely return.
Review 76:The A/C didn't reach as far as the bathroom but the main room was great, and for the price we really shouldn't grumble.
Review 77:Price, friendliness of staff, cleanliness, almost everything!
Review 78:If you want to have the story to tell about your travel this is the place to stay - with talkative owner, lovely hostess and great dog! There is a story behind that motel and some guests seemed to be long time residents there. Rooms are old and maybe not very modern but this is the idea of the place. Atmosphere is great and everyghing which might seem uncomfortable do not matter!
Review 79:They didn't have two beds in a single room so they gave us two. The first was ok: not great, but tolerable. In the second room, We found a pull out couch and mouse poop inside it. There was a dead cockroach on the floor. We returned the key to the gross room and i slept on the floor of the "clean room". We woke up to a large cockroach in the shower.
Review 80:Cool mural and signage. Don't be fooled.
Review 81:Nothing :)
Review 82:Loved the theme of the hotel, can appreciate that a lot of effort has gone into the hotel making it an iconic destination for people wanting to travel and sightsee, felt extremely safe within this establishment and would recommend to anyone, the staff we're so friendly and even gave us a pin badge! Thankyou :)
Review 83:Staff were exceptcional, Route 66 Theme of the instalation, the people who received us gived all attention, instructions and advises concerned to the turism in the area. Were better than all tourist visit center that we went.
Review 84:This is a perfect refurbished old type motel. It was comfortable and the owner gave a great history lesson upon check in. The murals themselves were worth the stop!
Review 85:The night manager stormed into our room and turned off overhead light in preference to lower powered bedside light. The air conditioner was very loud.
Review 86:I like the information that was given us as we check in.
Review 87:Sam, Monica and Taco, and their cute dog. Sam and Monica are terrific hosts. Taco is, well cute and friendly. For a motel dating back to the late 1930's it is in fine condition and is being well maintained. The El Travatore is a terrific place to get a taste of an Old Mother Road motel.
Review 88:The only minus, was the overly zealous host. Nice guy, but was compelled to tell me all about the history of the town showing maps etc. He disregarded my hints that we were tired...finally husband came in to see what was taking so long. We just wanted to shower, eat and sleep.
Review 89:We were on a quick trip from Calif. to Texas, driving eight or more hours a day. All we wanted was a clean room with good rates and well located.
Review 90:The Wifi was not always working properly.
Review 91:The owners and the motel made us feel very welcome on Route 66 in Kingman. It had all we needed for our one night stay. As you would be traveling by car to this place anyway, the location of this Motel is excellent, there is even a steak bar in walking distance if you fancy drinks and steaks.
Review 92:The soap was cheap and left my skin stinging. That's all though.
Review 93:Loved the murals and the owners were so friendly and talkative. They told me all about the history of the area which I love. Taco rolls over for guests too.
Review 94:nothing - all good
Review 95:this is a real Route 66 gem.. It has history and charm.. And you can select themed rooms.. The owners a friendly people and know the local area.
Review 96:This isn't for anyone who wants thoroughly modern accommodation
Review 97:Many original features from the 30s, the themed rooms are fun. Very friendly and welcoming
Review 98:The bathroom looked like the original 1939 installation. There was no place in the bathroom to set anything down. The shower was so filthy that you could see a white buildup of scum on the tile. The sink looked like it had been painted white at one point, so the places where the paint was chipped and the less white porcelain showed through looked dirty. The toilet bowl was streaked. The windows had white plastic blinds and the sun shone right through and into my eyes when it came up. I could see up to 3/8 inch of sunlight around parts of the door. Some of the screws from the primitive door lock had been replaced by nails. In the morning when I went to ask where the laundry was, I found a sign on the office door stating that someone would be back at 3 o'clock. When I went to look for ice, I spotted the man who had checked us in the night before. He told me that the ice machine was not working. Really? Isn't ice one of the basics you can depend on at a hotel? It is a mystery to me why booking.com rated this place as "Good"
Review 99:The pictures representing Route 66 and Western themes that were painted across the fronts of the rooms were cool. The fridge and microwave were handy. The vinyl flooring in the bedroom gave a clean appearance.
Review 100:WiFi didn't work in the room.
Review 101:Really friendly and cool hosts. Interesting interior. Kingman is a great place to stay on route 66, many things to see.
Review 102:- feeling that everything could be dirty - office of motel owners was very dirty with the little dog everywhere and the host spitting pieces of his cheeseburger on my map while eating
Review 103:- setting and atmosphere
Review 104:The locks on the door need upgrading, although I can honestly say I didn't feel unsafe.
Review 105:The owner was the nicest man, he sat and chatted about Route 66, told us the history of the town, have us maps and helped us find points of interest in Kingman. The rooms are a nice size and although themed (which I liked) they've kept the original Art Deco feel in the bathroom.
Review 106:Nothing to not like. This is still a work in progress but it's clean, tidy and everything works.
Review 107:Brilliant retro themed hotel right on Route 66 full of period detail and real history
Review 108:For those who liked American Graffiti you'll love this place. Old it is, but charming it is as well! The themes in every room are crazy fun.. What a wonderful treat this place is. Very 50's and fun! The owners are very knowledgeable about the area and Taco the dog is guaranteed to get a laugh. We cannot wait to go back......
Review 109:no hot water in bathroom or kitchen sink, the bathroom was a horror, the female manager kept talking for an hour after she showed us to our room and wouldn't leave.
Review 110:Nothing to report. We did have a roach in the shower which was a little yuck but everywhere was clean, tidy good value.
Review 111:If you can get past the quite bizarre setup, this place is great. The owners are eccentric to say the least but they've clearly poured their heart and soul into making it as authentic and kitsch possible. Themed rooms, neon signs, Turner Classics on when you get to your room. They're also full of stories about the history of the place and the area which makes it all the more fun. It's clean, warm and a great place to spend the night on the way through to LA or Grand Canyon. Fast wifi, comfy bed and great cable. All with the added bonus of crazy Route 66 nostalgia. Oh, it's really good value too. We stayed in James Dean which was a nice room. Sadly, Elvis was already taken.
Review 112:This little motel was a great surprise and pleasure. The owners were awesome and very helpful. We loved the Marilyn Monroe room. It was wonderful. The beds were very comfortable and everything was very clean.
Review 113:We honestly didn't have a bad experiance.
Review 114:We showed up a little early. Sam told and showed us some of the history of Kingman. That was nice. Very interesting.
Review 115:We stayed in Maryiln Munroe room.. comfortable bed and oringinal bath room .interesting wall paintings outside.Boss gave all info needed and more very good
Review 116:Despite the owners' efforts, the motel is still old (c 1937). Age is most noticeable in the doors and jams. Very small bathroom (just enough room to turn around).
Review 117:Very engaging staff/owners. Enthusiastic about their motel and the Kingman area.
Review 118:No electric in bathroom for curling iron, blow dryer, etc. shower was dark. No coffee pot and bed needed to be replaced (dips) no lobby to get coffee.
Review 119:Wood floors instead of carpet. Theme of rooms. Parking in front of your room. Microwave and frig in room but no coffee pot.
Review 120:Door to room could use some weatherstripping, you see through the door jams.
Review 121:It was an older place, but very unique, I stayed in the James Dean room, bed was comfortable, flat screen TV, furniture nice, bathroom small. Staff very nice.
Review 122:Carpet in room was horrible. No outlet in bathroom for hairdryer plus, I didn't know they made towels that thin.
Review 123:Owner was amusing and very enthusiastic about his motel and city. The only plus was the magnifying/makeup mirror in bathroom.
