Reviews for Residencial Uniao - Guest House
Review 1:The beds were too hard for me, but to be fair I am 76 and have arthritis, so someone younger and fitter would probably find them okay.
Review 2:The location in centre of old town,a one night stopover as we travelled North
Review 3:Some of the rooms are old stylish. Beacause of its position in the pedestrian area it is a bit difficult to reach with the luggage because there is not a lot of free parking nearby (we got lucky and found it otherwise you need to pay for parking during the day) also there is no lift and the rooms are on the first and second floor.
Review 4:The location is unbeatable. By choosing this guest house you are right in the city centre of Tomar. The receptionist was very helpful! They changed our room on request because in the first and bigger one we didn’t find the bed confortable and we were given another room with no problem at all. They even helped us with the Poruguese toll card allowing us to use their telephone.
Review 5:No parking in the immediate vicinity - so maybe not suitable if you have a lot of luggage. We parked in a street about 10 minutes (or less) away.
Review 6:This is a no-frills, old-style pensão very conveniently located right in the centre of Tomar. The staff are friendly and the room and other parts of the building (we didn't use the breakfast room or the bar) full of character - as is the exterior, with traditional "azulejos". A great place for an overnight stay in this ancient city. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby. Value for money was excellent.
Review 7:the lack of sound insulation, through the walls you can hear everything, a whole needs to be refreshed, not clean, the bathroom to be restored
Review 8:nice service, great location - on the main walking street, comfortable bed
Review 9:Very loud room. Bed made sooo much noise every time you moved. People were in the street yelling and making noise until 5am. We found out in the morning that it was College students and that, "yeah, they do that on Wednesdays". So even though the staff knew that, and the hotel was not even half booked, they still put us in a room facing the street. Needless to say, we were only able to sleep for maybe three hours.
Review 10:WiFi was sporadic in the room. The hotel was a bit on the old side but clean and comfortable nonetheless. A bit of a modernisation wouldn't go amiss
Review 11:Buffet breakfast is well worth the money. The hotel is in a great location on the main pedestrian street in the town centre
Review 12:I wasn't told that unless you left your key at reception when you went out,the room would not be cleaned, because they had no duplicates.
Review 13:Location on the main pedestrian street puts you right in the centre.Lovely traditional style Pensao.Friendly staff. My room at front had a nice little balcony.
Review 14:They need to fix the electric outlets so that the traveler can charge phones, computers and camera, as well as use a hair dryer.
Review 15:The staff was very helpful, the place had a lot of charm, breakfast was great, and it was in the perfect location.
Review 16:It is an old building and the walls are extremely thin. Breakfast was adequate, but as we often find, providing little variety if you only eat fruit at the start of the day. The bathroom in room 102 certainly needs refurbishing. Some might find the lack of a lift problematic.
Review 17:Guest and house are the operative words, here. It is a house which has been taking visitors for two hundred years and you certainly feel like a welcome guest, but luxury, it is not. Every public room is at your disposal, each room is full of character and it was lovely to see people walking about the house, feeling at home. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful and cleaning was meticulous. The bar is stocked as well as any hotel bar and yet is an 'honesty' bar, so once again, at your disposal whenever you wished to use it. It is situated on a pedestrian area near to the main square, so all local events can be watched from the small balcony, if your room is at the front of the property. Luggage can be unloaded in the street behind the property and free parking is only 5 minutes' walk away.
Review 18:Breakfast was rather poor quality, ok for the price I guess, but hardly worth having.
Review 19:Location is extremely good, in the main pedestrian street of Tomar, the covent is easily reachable from there.
Review 20:Right in the city center, excellent position. Small and confy hotel. Has an ancient charm. Rooms are not exceptionally big but it's still a great value for money. Very lovely common room.
Review 21:OK the room was a bit small but adequate. You get what you pay for and for a longer stay I would have booked a double. But the single was OK for my stay.
Review 22:Great town, interesting walks around. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 23:My room was very small and didn't have a wardrobe - only 3 hangers. When I asked, I was given more hangers straight away. The staff are very nice, but couldn't offer me a less cramped room as they were fully-booked and obviously allocate larger rooms to couples. This guest house can be noisy at weekends as it is on the main pedestrian street in Tomar where street parties are held, and close to the park which also hosts parties and concerts.
Review 24:The reception and dining room staff are very nice and friendly. Pastel de nata is provided for breakfast every day!
Review 25:This is very comfortable place to spend a few days. The staff were extraordinarily kind and helpful especially Claudia for whom no task was too much trouble. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to my friends and indeed hope to return next year.
Review 26:The first room they put me in was not the best - small and very cramped and overlooked a small side street. With no fan or air conditioning, leaving the window open meant people passing by sounded like they were in the room with you... When I asked to switch rooms they moved me to a much nicer and larger room that overlooked the courtyard so it was much quieter. Other than that, the staff were very helpful. The breakfast wasn't much in terms of variety but was more than adequate, everything was clean and the location was superb.
Review 27:Nothing really. For some stairs might be difficult.
Review 28:Great host and a most atmospheric old building, feels like going back in time a little. Tomar is a great small town, this is on the main pedestrian street, near the main plaza and only 10 minutes walk from the train or bus.
Review 31:we liked everything about the hotel - great price, location, people and facility!
Review 32:Location is perfect -- an easy walk to bus and train station, on a lively street just up from the main square with lots of cafes and shops. Room was clean and comfortable, bathroom spacious. A view of the Castelo from our window. Central patio/courtyard with charis and lots of flowers. Nice shared living room and an honor bar. Walk to the Convento (which we loved!) and then across the river where we found a great old cemetery. My son walked to the aquaduct (a hilly 3 or 4 km) and said it was one of the highlights of our 10 day trip. Tomar is a delightful town -- not to be missed! We left Nazare in the morning, took bus to Alcobaca around 10:30, from there bus to Batalha (around 2:30) and then a 6:00 pm bus to Tomar - it all worked very smoothly and we enjoyed each stop. Stayed two nights in Tomar before taking the train to Lisbon. Definitely put Tomar on your itinerary!
Review 33:Wifi was not strong enough.
Review 34:Excellent location and very nice staff. The building is old but clean, the atmosphere is fantastic especially for the classic style lovers. Only one thing which was not satisfactory was that I couldn't use wifi in the room. However, other things are very good, I recommend anyone to stay here when you visit Tomar.
Review 35:women at front desk explained historical sites in order of importance, worked for my limited time, she knows her town, really added value to this hotel. I am traveling on motorcycle, they have a small safe garage to park a Moto in, huge plus.
Review 36:Not wheelchair accessible.
Review 37:There are different persons working in the reception, the evening/night lady (Claudia) was great, she knows her city, and we got better information from her than from the tourist information. She speaks several languages.
Review 38:Our shower didn't hang properly and had to be hand held when taking a shower.
Review 39:Friendly staff, central location, good bedroom with large bathroom, nice sitting room.
Review 40:Some of the rooms have no wardrobe and are rather small.
Review 41:City center location, very friendly and helpful staff. Nice old house ...some renovation needed.
Review 42:Size of the room could be bigger; Little bit renovation could make it more comfortable; No elevator with quite a steep stairs can be problem for someone
Review 43:Charming old style furniture and decoration; Perfect central location; Very nice and friendly staff
Review 44:Nothing at all.
Review 45:First of all, very friendly and helpful owner and staff !!! Thank you very much ! At the end of December it was pretty cold outside at night but the room could be heated well. Good breakfast buffet.
Review 46:en-suite a little small but perfectly adequate and clean. rooms a little dusty with age(might affect asthmatics)
Review 47:very helpful friendly staff central location, old-fashioned, traditional décor, honesty bar
Review 48:The noise from the street. It went on most of the night as students were around a lot of the time.
Review 49:The location and the style of the hotel. The staff were lovely.
Review 50:It was all good, but the stairs to the top floor are rather steep, so should hold the handrail.
Review 51:Residencial Uniao is a very cute and traditional guest house. We had a twin room with front view at the top floor and it was very pleasant. Staff were friendly and helpful and the location couldn't be better.
Review 52:WiFi did not quite work on my room, only in the common room.
Review 53:Location: on main street, close to everything. Breakfast: plentiful and varied. Fresh fruit, several hot beverages and types of bread, cereal, cheeses, etc. Common room with huge tv, comfy chairs and sofas.
Review 54:Located in pedestrianized Rua Serpa Pinto in the historic zone, very convenient to walk around the town center. It is good to enjoy atmosphere of staying in an old house without complaining about a little inconvenience such as steep steps. Very kind hotel people. Pick up drink in bar refrigerator and declare it when check-out. The azulejo walls in the entrance are Manueline window of the Convent and weir of Río Nabao. For those who come driving: Street parking is almost unavailable, always occupied. Find space in public parking along Av. Marques de Tomar north-west of the old bridge (Ponte Velha or Ponte Marques de Pombal). It is free between 20:00 and 08:00. Just 100 meters to the emergency exit of the hotel.
Review 55:Very good bedding ... Vey nice room but a bit small Very nice breakfast Very nice staff Very good information concerning services Nice building Very good service and help
Review 56:not a modern hotel with modern facilities. Old World charm, if you will. Basic amenities, small room, no elevator.
Review 57:helpful, personable staff, ideal location on central promenade street
Review 58:Some areas could benefit from a renovation but it definitely adds to the character of the place.
Review 59:Location couldn't be better, if you have a car there is a car park nearby. The owner was friendly and gave us a nice recommendation for dinner. Also breakfast was really nice and wifi worked well in all areas.
Review 60:The hotel is so old that it is very hard to feel any degree of comfort. Although there is no dirt visible, just the old smell of every interior piece makes it hard to relax. The rooms are tiny, not talking about the bathroom, where you feel like everything is going to fall apart if you just touch it. Plus it is very hard to sleep, since the room doors do not really close well and the floors are so creaky that every guest who decides to pass by your door in the night would wake you up. Furniture is super old and bulky, partly broken. TV is small and from the last century, with very bad picture quality.
Review 61:The location is central, which makes it easy to reach anything you want in Tomar. The stuff is very friendly and welcoming.
Review 62:Nothing
Review 63:I was a first time solo traveler so i was a little nervous but Grabiel made my vacation so nicer. She took time out of her busy schedule to chst eith me and really made me feel at home
Review 64:A bit of noise from the street, not much from cars but rather people talking in the street [ Portugese are quite loud], but could be that not everyday someone passes by and talks :) So not a big deal.
Review 65:The hotel is just in the center of the town. The staff was helpull to navigate us to a free of charge parking and had no issues to give us breakfast while we were quite late [after the regular closing time]. The hotel was clean and tidy. All was good.
Review 66:Room 116 opposite the post office car park with noisy vans and trucks.
Review 67:The manager was helpful and amusing. Unfortunately there was a festival on the night we stayed so the noise meant we got very little sleep.
Review 68:- bed small for 2 people. - old rooms, need to be "cleaned" - wifi in the rooms was erratic
Review 69:- the location in the heart of the city. great to visit the city and the monastery - good breakfast and cheap - calm
Review 70:i stayed two nights here while visiting the beautiful town of Tomar. The hotel is excellent value for money and really well situated. Breakfast is cheap, plentiful and and eclectic in a super dining room. Friendly staff and small but comfortable rooms. Actually it was the best bed i ever slept in on my holiday in portugal..highly reccmmended!
Review 71:The WIFI didn't work in my room, so I had to go to a common room for using it.
Review 72:The guy at the reception was very friendly, hospitable, spoke English, and gave excellent suggestions on Tomar (what to do, where to go), gave me a map, and suggested a good restaurant when I needed one.
Review 73:Could do with a bit of a spruce up. Lick of paint and some new linen/towels would be a step improvement.
Review 74:Friendly welcome. Central but quiet (ask for a back room). Plenty of choice for breakfast.
Review 75:Accommodations are ok, but the bed is really old and can be an issue for those more demanding.
Review 76:Cant be closet to the attractions, just dês Stella from the main square. Besides the hotel itself is worth to visit, since it may be the 1st hotel of the city.
Review 77:Tiny ensuite bathroom.
Review 78:This is a charming centrally located property with an old world feel. Tremendous value and wonderfully helpful and charming hosts - Jorge and colleague Claudia. Spotless room and fresh linen daily. Sitting room is large and comfortable and dining area is well stocked. No question unanswered - helpful suggestions for shopping. Home from home feel.
Review 79:Because the building isn't modern, the room and ensuite bathroom were a bit small. My room was at the back of the hotel so I was wakened quite early by the postal workers moving carts of mail around the sorting office across the road. I would say these dislikes are far outweighed by the positives - I'll be back next year!
Review 80:The staff were very friendly - it felt like being welcomed into their own home. The location was excellent - very close to the Convento de Cristo, where I was singing at Zezere Arts Festival for a week. Although wifi didn't extend to the bedrooms, there was a very comfortable sitting room and bar both with wifi. As a singer, I was very pleased that there wasn't air conditioning to ruin my voice!
Review 81:Front of house rooms can be a bit noisy (from the street) at night, but still, the room is worth it!
Review 82:I really liked the location in the old part of town and it's proximity to the Covento de Cristo. ATM outside the door and so many restaurants on the same street and surrounding ones! It was really lovely to stay in a unique building, such a change from the sameness of modern accomodation.
Review 83:Nothing! Perfect place.
Review 84:The staff were incredibly friendly, the hotel was perfectly placed on a pedestrian street in the heart of the town and the hotel itself was lovely, full of old Portuguese charm and light. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
Review 85:Claudia the owner was very welcoming and so helpful. The room was a reasonable size, comfortable bed, lovely hot shower. Beautiful cool traditional courtyard for guest use.
Review 86:Our room opened towards the back overlooking an open garden where neatly hung washed blankets and sheets drying in the sun and fresh air. Loved the breakfast room and all the attentions paid to us by our gracious hosts. I would love to return. Don't miss the international doll collection at the foot of the stairs! Wonderfully old school!
Review 87:my favourite place in Portugal. Old fashioned, well kept budget hotel (pension). Lovely staff. Comfort limited by age of the building, but everything one needs.
Review 88:Super position - castle and other attractions all reachable on foot, beaufiful old house with furniture and fittings in keeping with period, plenty of room to feel at home (bar and large sitting room) and relax. Well looked after by owner. Excellent price ratio.
Review 89:Very central, old building with basic facilities, and very friendly staff. It's very good value for money.
Review 90:Good price in the centre of the town , very nice and helpful personel:)
Review 91:A bit austere, stale croissants and pastries at breakfast.
Review 92:Good location, comfortable clean room.
Review 93:Bath room is too small
Review 94:Centrally located on the pedestrian street. Very good breakfast. Wifi is good.
Review 95:Bathroom
Review 96:Location. Decor,
Review 97:Room clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Great location
Review 98:A perfect place to stay
Review 99:Old hard to find
Review 100:Location
Review 101:a very cosy historical hotel on the main walkingstreet of this nice town. Definately recommended!
Review 102:no near car park. small room for 4 people is not a family room !
Review 103:view to main street
Review 104:Right in the centre. Character and charm of house and people.

Review 109:the bed is just OK.

Review 111:An honest, very clean hotel in the heart of Tomar.
Review 112:Unfortunately the bed was not comfortable very hard.
Review 113:Very friendly helpful staff. Clean room. Very good breakfast.
Review 114:the wi-fi at bedroom is very weak. fortunately, wi-fi at lobby is very good
Review 115:Friendly staff and location
Review 116:Great location. All the sights and the train station were within walking distance.
Review 117:Great location
Review 118:Breakfast was lovely. Self service bar was quirky!
Review 119:I liked that the staff prepared packed breakfast at 7 and spoke very good english (both these are sometimes rare).

Review 121:Room is quite small
Review 122:Good location,good room,personnel is very nice
