Reviews for Tamarack Lodge
Review 1:Was debating whether to drive or fly. Didn't know there was anairport shuttle-didn't say on the website. Website also didn'tshare info re: Mammoth shuttle-found the transit route on shuttlewebsite but the hotel informed me wouldn't be running until Dec.18Th. Glad I drove! Website also didn't disclose what the resort feecovered-would've brought a swimsuit had I known about hot tub usageat Mammoth Mountain Inn. Breakfast is good except coffee extremely weakwhich means everyone drinks a lot and it runs out during the first hour.
Review 2:The view
Review 3:It's location at 10,000 ft in the Sierra Nevada is breathtaking. We stayed in the main lodge in room 1 which had a dual aspect over the lake and mountains. Not the largest room we have ever had but it was built in the 1920's! The chef is young but very skilled and our dinner was one of the best we have eaten in a while. If you want a stop over in the mountains then make this the one.
Review 4:We loved the Tamarack Lodge! Reminded us of an old historic Nat'l Park Lodge! We rented canoes from them for $20/hr. and paddled around all of Twin Lakes. There are so many wonderful hikes and viewpoints nearby and we did a lot of hiking! The rooms were cozy and warm and very comfy! The staff was so kind and nice and helpful! We loved sitting in the Lodge at night in front of the big rock fireplace and enjoying the warmth and company of other travelers and sharing stories and making friends!
Review 5:Amazing location, super comfy bed, nice breakfast and kind staff. We were offered an upgrade to a cabin on the lake for $30 which we appreciated and thought well worth it.
Review 6:Loose floor tiles and toilet in bathroom, very tiny shower 30" x 30" at best, trickling shower head, no temperature control for shower, room sinking so all furniture was slanting, carpet super old & gross, no coffee maker, hairdryer, etc. as specified when booking, $20.p/day resort fee for spotty wifi, really? Looks like it hasn't been updated much since it was rebuilt in 1927 as a fisherman's lodge after a fire. Did not like this place at all for the rate they're charge. At best, this would be a $50. p/night lodge, very unhappy!!!
Review 7:The continental breakfast
Review 8:the rooms need an upgrade, we had a hard time sleeping due to something in the air our noses would stuff up and we woke p with a headache. The beds are comfortable but there was in the air, i don't have allergies and during the day outside no problem. Also, it is an old hotel so walls are thin.
Review 9:loved the feel of an old mountain lodge, the pianist in the lobby with comfy chairs and a full bar was like going back in time, warm rustic intimate
Review 10:The staff did not know much about the hiking trails. For example, one of them said if we hike up to the Mammoth Mountain, for sure we could not hike down from there. The bus schedule from the village to the lodge was not updated. The staff did not know where we could get on the bus from the village.
Review 11:I like the locations, the lodge is very charming and beautiful. The restaurant is very good, but overpriced.
Review 12:We are on our honeymoon and the staff were wonderful. We were made to feel very welcome. The location of the hotel is beautiful and there are bike and canoe rentals on site.
Review 13:No shades in bedroom for sleeping.
Review 14:Ambiance, roomy, lots of amenities such as a kitchen, living room, bedroom, deck with table and chairs. View of the lake was great!
Review 15:Lighting could be improved in the living area. The cold fluorescent bulb in the overhead ceiling lamp and zero table lamps made it hard to read and created an industrial ambiance after dark. The reception had no replacement bulbs nor table lamps to share. Too bad. But the sleeping room lighting was just fine! Such a strange disconnect within the cabin.
Review 16:The history of the lodge came through and the location is ideal for a comfortable stay at Mammoth Lakes, away from Mammoth town but near enough. The focus on comfort came through in the high quality sleeping fabrics and mattress, and cleanliness of the sleeping room in the cabin. Hiking was nearby, a beautiful lake is across the street, canoes and bikes are at the ready, the pine smell is in the air. Perfect mountain experience with comfort.
Review 17:Staff knocked on the door around 1 pm one of the days. I yelled to the door to hold on a moment, since my wife and I were in bed napping. The staff proceeded to use a key to unlock the front door and barge in on us! So embarrassing!
Review 18:I loved the view and location. Beautiful lake nearby and awesome mountains.
Review 19:Resort charge was unexpected and hidden since it stated breakfast, etc. was free and included. For one day stay and no need for breakfast there should have been a waived resort fee.
Review 20:Great room, easy access to rentals of bikes, tv's, DVDs, etc. and awesome location! Staff was also very friendly, warm and helpful.
Review 21:We arrived mid snow storm to be told that the restaurant wasn't open nor was the bar so we'd have to drive back into town to get something to eat.
Review 22:Location was beautiful, and room was very sweet, clean.
Review 23:Loved the pianist, the restaurant, the fact that you weren't right in town but close enough, beautiful property by the lake and hiking. The fire place the staff the little bar and sharing a bathroom was awesome! It was pretty much my own the whole time and I liked getting ready in my own space! Great deal for the price we paid. The restaurant is expensive but great for a special occasion - venison oso bucco what?! I want to make this an annual trip! Loved how live music and breakfast brought people together by morning and night
Review 24:1 bedroom cabins are nice and clean, but they are not worth almost 300 USD a night. Also for that price having just a continental breakfast seems really unfair.
Review 25:Location is great Near trails and lake
Review 26:Not a negative for us but for some if you don't have a car the location is a couple of miles from the main town. There are regular ski buses and I think there is a night bus though. For us this slightly remote location was actually positive but maybe not for all.
Review 27:In short we liked everything. The room and the bed were very comfortable with lots of character. Separate shared shower facilities for our room, but this building does date from 1924 and there was a sink in the room. The fire place living area and the piano nights on the weekends with the smell of mulled wine add a real authenticity to this original Yosemite building. Set on twin lakes frozen over in winter and must be stunning in summer too. Make for a very tranquil environment.
Review 28:Room described as "Queen"; bed was a typical "full" (i.e. too small for a couple, including 200lb, 6"1" male). Bathroom Shower head fell off 1st. night during woman's hair shampoo (disaster). The shower head was old, and frozen on the shower arm. Maintenance simply reinstalled same shower head the next morning. While staff was great, the "welcome/complimentary" hot cider was not offered upon checkin (we had to pay at the bar instead), and staff would only provide a single serving when I requested same the next evening. I expected more of a property that is owned, and managed, by Mammoth Mountain (i.e. IntraWest).
Review 29:Location; Funky charm, staff.
Review 30:I think the cabins could be modernised, they look a little a little tired
Review 31:I loved the location, the staff was very friendly, very helpful, made our stay very special, and, above all, the chef delivered a great diner,we had venison cooked perfectly with an excellent red cabernet franc from Minerals wine. I will go back.
Review 32:mammoth lakes is a very nice place but it is far away from the most important sightseeing places of Yosemite.
Review 33:A very nice place, clean and comfortable. Clean bathrooms and bedrooms, nice atmosphere. Staff really friendly and willing to give useful information. Breakfast included.
Review 34:too expensive and when we opened the extra bed there was no place to walk in the room ,but kitchen towels seemed old
Review 35:the location is scenic, kitchen was good ,
Review 36:There were no paper towels in the kitchen.
Review 37:We had a quick get-away and were refreshed. The cabin was cozy and welcoming. We wanted to stay longer but our cabin was already booked. Their were many things to do we didn't make it to the village. The lake was stocked as we were driving away. :(
Review 38:Not much that liked
Review 39:Ver little
Review 40:Limited Breakfast
Review 41:value for Money
Review 42:Loved the location and the atmosphere of the cabins by the lake with the fire place to warm you up from cold weather.
Review 43:Staff extremely helpful, courteous going out of there way to make your stay a pleasure.
Review 44:Loved this place. Perfect location with stunning scenery.
Review 45:Beauty and friendly staff.
Review 46:Stunning views cosy cabin comfortable bed
Review 47:Wireless internet is non-existent - Speedtest is 0.2-0.3 megabits with access points within the rooms.
Review 48:Amazing views. Friendly staff.
Review 49:I loved everything about this place
Review 50:free breakfast was very weak
Review 51:location, lots to do nearby, something for everyone
Review 52:Nice cabin, lovely old fashioned lodge, views of trees and lakes, charming chPel in the woods.
Review 53:The price little high for dogs
Review 54:Nice area to be for vacation
Review 55:Breakfast, meh.

Review 57:location, views

Review 61:onsight manager helped us through a major scheduling issue
Review 62:Loved it all
Review 63:Lake Mts Staff Cabin
Review 64:I liked the cabin, the location, the people who served and the people who were guests.
Review 65:Small bed. phone did not work and heater was poor or broken.
Review 66:Lake front ....There is no better. Close to resort town. some dinning options.
Review 67:Staff obviously love their jobs. Helpful and friendly The dinner at restuarant was gourmet and wonderfully unique we will definitely come back.
Review 68:The shared bathroom, bed linens, fans needed.
Review 69:The rustic feel and beautiful scenery. Ability to rent canoes, etc.
Review 70:Nothing was disliked!!
Review 71:The view ! The staff!! Especially the desk clerk!
Review 72:Bed room comfort could be better.
Review 73:Great location, stunning nature, restaurant on site is fantastic!
Review 74:I enjoyed every thing about the lodge.
Review 75:Location Cleanliness Service Room Equipments
Review 76:great location near to yosimite, nice views
Review 77:Very poor wifi signal, breakfast too simple for the price. Charge resort fee
Review 78:Great location, rustic cabin. Piano player for the evening
Review 79:too small room ,noise from nest room
Review 80:nice staffs and breakfast
Review 81:Black mold in bath illegal wiring dirty carpets poor maintanenceof building
Review 82:Leaving
Review 83:Nice fun place
Review 84:The rooms are from the 1920's I think. In my room the floors were not level and sloped toward the middle of the room. The electrical was very scary. Everything was run off of extension cords through holes in the walls.
Review 85:The staff was great and very eager to please.
Review 86:the restaurant was closed! You had to drive quite some distance to find a restaurant and so could not drink
Review 87:the cosyness of the cabin, being in nature at the lake. Visiting the Devil's pile monument and Rainbowfalls.
Review 88:Room was very small with sloping floor which meant we were sliding down the bed all night.. Bathroom was even smaller with no room for my husband to go to the toilet.
Review 89:Location was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 90:the weather, this made us check out earlier than expected but it will not stop us returning in the future.
Review 91:beautiful location, friendly and very helpful staff, warm atmosphere, attractive and private cabins.
Review 92:Kitchen, bar, and transit were all not operating the days I was there. I felt at least the transit could have been available four scheduled times a day at guest request. I might have gone skiing on the Mountain if that had been available and then Mammoth Mt Co would have made more money off of me. for little effort.
Review 93:Beautiful location. Good shopping and restaurants in old village area.
Review 94:They did not have any hot chocolate with the continental breakfast and not a lot of options for someone who is gluten free. They had hard boiled eggs, but no yogurt or gluten free bread or cereal option. Also, it was hard to regulate the room temperature (which I mentioned at the checkout). when we first arrived, it was very hot in the room. We made adjustments and it seemed fine, but then the next night it was cold!
Review 95:The staff was very friendly - Allison and the young man the first morning (sorry but cannot remember his name, but he is going to school for EMT). The location was very beautiful. We did not eat the restaurant but ventured out into town.
Review 96:We didn't like the fact that the beautiful lounge turned into a romper room with too many kids/babies. We also would have liked to have been able to have a light healthful lunch after a long day skiing.
Review 97:The staff was very accomodating and friendly. The cabin cute and comfortable. The housekeeping even did our dishes.
Review 98:No shower and toilettes in the room.. Rent for a bicycle is 80 usd per day! Or 20 usd an hour. Ridiculous, no wonder most people are overweight!
Review 99:Great location on the lake. Very thin walls---) noise.
Review 100:high price, bad breakfast, unacceptable pay 20 usd for no service!!!
Review 101:beautiful location surrounded by nature, furniture in the rooms very simple but very nice, good restaurant
Review 102:It was a bit too far from our original destination, Yosemite.
Review 103:There was so much do to near the lodge. My partner and I decided not to head back into Yosemite the next day because of how much there was to do in Mammoth Lakes.
Review 104:Since it's owned by the ski resort, it's foolishly expensive.Bike rentals as an example are $20/hour per bike. 2 bikes for acasual 2 hour ride? $80. For that price you could demo a really nicebike from the bike shop in town. Same pricing for kayaks. We found the bar to be overpriced but the service and drinks were good. It was frustrating that it closed at 9pm. And as much as I like the rooms that feel like they're preserved from the 1950s (really, I do; in a good way), there is the down side -- the walls are thin with no real noise insulation, so if you are a light sleeper pack some ear plugs.
Review 105:A historic lodge in a beautiful natural setting, with adjacent lakes, hiking and biking for all levels. Even though it is legitimately ahistoric lodge, it's not a Craftsman-era masterpiece -- it's noTimberline or Awahnee. But what it lacks in grandeur, it makes up for inquaint and cozy atmosphere.Maybe it's because we were really hungry, but the restaurant served us an excellent meal. It seemed relatively expensive for the area. The bar in the lobby was good.
Review 106:Calling these cabins "historic" is another name for "wehaven't paid any attention to these cabins for over a decade".The upholstery is tired, there is very limited storage space, thekitchen space is cramped…the bathroom has hardly any place to puttoiletries. They did include a hair dryer, but of course there was nooutlet in the bathroom! The patio included 2 uncomfortable chairs and asappy redwood stump as a table. I had to beg for an umbrella so we couldsit outside in the afternoon in some shade after our hike, but they werein short supply and available only on a first come basis. The breakfastthat was included in the $20 "resort" fee was minimal anduninspired. Not sure what else that resort fee provided us, there are nohorseshoe or fire pits or ping pong tables…not even little places to sitalong the lake. Take some advice from Evergreen Lodge in GrovelandTamarack and put a little "love" into the details. It wouldmake a world of difference.
Review 107:You can't beat the location for this lodge, right on beautiful TwinLakes in Mammoth Lakes area…complete with a gorgeous waterfall as abackdrop. There are great biking and hiking trails right at yourdoorstep…or cabin step as it pertains here. The restaurant is firstrate…and the prices reflect that.
Review 108:Hidden costs, such as continental breakfast fees. Apparently my online statement was close to $400 off. Not being informed lodge would not be serving dinner when we had anticipated on eating there every night.
Review 109:memories were made
Review 110:Room to small , no en suite, noisey neighbours because walls to thin , disappointing as overseas visitors , web site exaggerated appearance .
Review 111:Location mainly also obviously some history, nice lounge and furniture
Review 112:We stayed in the lodge, the bathroom a bit small but the room had its own sitting room which allows for more spacious accommodation.
Review 113:A beautiful unique lodge tucked away in the mountains over looking a lake. Perfectly situated for winter sports, not far from the local village which is superb. Cosy reception/lounge area with a log fire, perfect for all day relaxation & breakfast. Wood/rustic finishings in the lodge are just lovely! Thank you for an enjoyable stay along with friendly noligable staff.
Review 114:Rooms were a bit small and cramped but cozy. Next time I want to stay in a cabin. I expect it to be the same size as the lodge room but with a small kitchen...
Review 115:This is a lodge! Everything you could possibly think a lodge could be. Wood paneling, cabins, trees, wilderness!! The restaurant was excellent!! The food was innovative and it worked! Our stay was absolutely amazing!!
Review 116:The $20 daily resort fee in addition to the daily rate and hotel tax will keep me from coming back.
Review 117:I like the "lodge" feeling and the location away from the bustle of the village. Having the option to take the shuttle to the slopes and avoid the Mammoth parking hassle. The surroundings were beautiful!
Review 118:EVERYTHING!!
Review 119:The area is awesome!
Review 120:Can't host wedding reception
Review 121:Character!
Review 122:room too small , shared bathroom & charged too expensive!
Review 123:pretty lake view
Review 124:price, way too expensive, fees.
Review 125:location, historic, rustic
