Reviews for Bar Harbor Inn and Spa

Review 1:The staff was amazing. The rooms were well maintained. When you needed anything a person was sent quickly. We were the last week of the season and you would have thought we were queens by the way we were treated.

Review 2:We booked this hotel online from the UK because the website showed it was a full service hotel and allowed us to book a table for dinner, however when we arrived the restaurant and bar were closed and remained so throughout our stay.

Review 3:Sea view from bedroom and that we could borrow film DVDs from reception to watch.

Review 4:surprised no horseradish for the roast beef ?

Review 5:everything was outstanding - food , lodgings , view, atmosphere , service , reading room , Sunday brunch -

Review 6:We paid to much to have been stuck in an outer wing. The room it self was just so so, although the beds were comfy. We are used to the Hilton or Embasy Suites.

Review 7:Location and fabulous restaurant.. Lobster Benedict was incredible.

Review 8:Our room was not in the main building but in the annex building. Definitely overdue for a facelift. Furniture was old fashioned and almost too cluttered but still comfortable.

Review 9:The location was great! Beautiful grounds and easy access to the shoreline, boat tours, shops, and restaurants. Could not have asked for a better spot!

Review 10:there was a broken light in our room--the room faced the garden not the harbor--the breakfast experience was awful no place to sit, people pushing for food or coffee-like a bad summer camp

Review 11:nice location--when I told the receptionist about b'fast he gave us a voucher for the dining room

Review 12:The only comment I can make is the dinner menu could have more variety. We had shellfish allergies and a lot of the menu is made up of seafood.

Review 13:Location to everything. The staff was friendly and helpful. The parking was good.

Review 14:We were disappointed with the location of our room. The website leads you to believe that you will be staying a room with stunning views of the harbor...we did not.

Review 15:Bar Harbor is beautiful!

Review 16:Problems with wifi. Constantly dropped necessitating repeated sign ins.

Review 17:Sitting on my balcony enjoying the ocean view. Bed very comfortable with good linens. Super clean room and bath. Generous breakfast. Good coffee all day and yummy cookies in afternoon.

Review 18:Reading Room: The seafood in my cioppino was extremely over-cooked, but sat in a really delicious sauce. I was comped my dessert which was nice not my goal in reporting it. My daughter's out-of-shell lobster was excellent. Breakfast there was terrific.

Review 19:The bathroom sink was clogged. We reported it to the front desk and it was completely fixed within an hour or two. The harbor view was spectacular and the location was great for easy walking to everything in town.

Review 20:Over priced for the choices around the are. Continental breakfast wasnot good at all. Actually skipped it the second day and went into townfor a real breakfast. Booking.com did not honor the price guarantee andwas stuck paying 160 more than I should have.

Review 21:It is a beautiful area. The views are incredible and the atmosphere iswonderful. Becoming a tourist trap a bit.

Review 22:the pool was very cold. I expected it to be warmer as it was advertised as heated.

Review 23:the grounds were beautiful, the breakfast was wonderful but I would have liked some breakfast meat, i,e bacon

Review 24:although the location and view were amazing, the room was very dated, as was the bath. We could not believe that, although breakfast was included, it was served in the dated, cafeteria-like outbuilding. If you wanted to eat in the " nice" restaurant for breakfast, it was not included. The pool was also dated.

Review 25:our room was right on the water and the view was spectacular!

Review 26:The Reading room restaurant was suppose to be a fancy place. As my wife and I dress up but then at the table next to us were a large party wearing shorts and tank tops. Plus being a fancy restaurant we asked for the lights in our section to be darkened like the rest of the restaurant but the staff was not able to figure it out. For an anniversary dinner we should of gone into town.

Review 27:The location of the hotel to town and the view of the water.

Review 28:Outstanding place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Bar Harbor and surrounding area. Room overlooking the harbor was hard to leave each day-the complimentary breakfast was a perfect start to each of our perfect days. Love being in town with easy walking distance to all Bar Harbor has to offer.

Review 29:Compared to the surrounding area the accommodations are lean, worn down, expensive and just plain poor. For $300 plus a night I expect a comfortable bed and a decent room and we didn't get either. The local food is high quality and the hotel breakfast was not fresh or local and very poorly managed.

Review 30:The location was wonderful.

Review 31:Wifi was not effective. Kept getting thrown off. Would like to have stayed another night but cost for the room prevented us from doing so. Nice average room but we were certainly paying for location of overall hotel. We did not have a water view and were in the Inn section area in a parking lot but it was pleasant enough.

Review 32:Easy walkability to shops, water and Shore Path. Very clean and comfortable room. Cleaning staff were pleasant.

Review 33:The room was okay but the beds were uncomfortable. Bathroom was a little outdated. I expected more for the price we paid.

Review 34:Location and facilities were incredible.

Review 35:Location can't be beat! Bar harbor gets crowded, parking difficult to find and is limited to 2 hours. This hotel is walking distance to everything! The included "continental" breakfast is expansive and more than expected. We will be staying here again.

Review 36:Cleanliness was very poor found pubic hair on our bed the first day..... During Our stay, sheets were never change, during our stay. Very disappointed

Review 37:Location

Review 38:We had some smokers and there just didn't seem to be any good place to do so.

Review 39:The fact that this was a historic place was enough, and our Oceanside room was great. All the staff were very nice. Everything we wanted to do and see was right there.

Review 40:The hotel bar and kitchen close too early and the mattress was very firm.

Review 41:The location of this hotel can't be beat and every staff member thatcI met was friendly, attentive and accommodating.

Review 42:While the bathroom was clean and had been updated for the tub the room could have been updated with better linens and a fresher look.

Review 43:The view was absolutely beautiful and the dining room was beautiful as well! The location couldn't have been better!

Review 44:Our package came with a breakfast which was stated in our reservation. They stood and argued with us for 10 minutes saying it was continental only yet when I booked and showed them the reservation, it stated full breakfast. The room was outdated and when we went to watch a movie on HBO, the resolution was blurry and hard to watch.

Review 45:Location and grounds are stunning.

Review 46:The safe is located on the floor of the closet and it is difficult to bend down to see the keypad to operated the safe, especially in the small closet. I did not use the safe for this reason; you literally had to get on your knees. I think the safe could be placed on the shelf of the closet or a table. Only two washcloths were provided with four towels. More washcloths should have been provided. Toilet paper rough.

Review 47:I liked the food, location, cleanliness of the room, and beautiful view of the bay. I also liked the clean carpet and renovated room.

Review 48:The balcony view of the ocean was fantastic! We enjoyed the wonderful continental breakfast with the organic granola option. Also had a marvelous massage at the Spa. The Inn is in a fantastic location- close to the town and harbor.

Review 49:Sitting on the deck outside our room drinking wine and watching boats was the perfect way to relax. We were walking distance to all of the restaurants and unique gift shops.

Review 50:They reused their breakfast items. Just put plastic wrap over them and put them in a cupboard for the next day. They dried out and were hard.

Review 51:Excellent view. Maid service was wonderful. Front desk was very helpful.

Review 52:Wifi was a complete joke here. Had 4 devices and if any were lucky enough to hold a feed, it was sub-DSL speeds. It claimed it was 65 Mbps, do not believe them. Could not do basic google searches because servers would time out.

Review 53:Room was very spacious, lookout to garden is actually the parking lot. Not very beautiful. Location in bar harbor is fantastic.

Review 54:It was the perfect choice for a hotel in Bar Harbor. We had a beautiful view of the sunrise from our balcony. Acadian national park was a quick drive away and we could very easily walk to town for meals and shopping. The staff was very friendly and helpful in accommodating our room preferences and giving us recommendations on hikes. The continental breakfast exceeded my expectations.

Review 55:poor wifi, heater made sound that did not allow a good night sleep. it was reported to front desk, and staff, but in the end...still had issues.

Review 56:the restaurant was great, staff was great, location had the best view, and easy to access town.

Review 57:The location and Inn. The Bar Harbor Inn and Spa is in the perfect location It's right on the water and minutes from the shops and restaurants. The Inn is beautiful and clean. The food is great at the restaurant at the Inn. Amazing stay!!

Review 58:The breakfast was fair not the same choice I received in the past. My favorite cake was missing and everything was frozon not fresh.

Review 59:The room and the staff were great

Review 60:Rooms noisy. Other guests talking was too loud in the room. Wifi pretty slow for a nice inn like this. Bathroom not clean. Blanket rather than down comforter.

Review 61:Location is great. Nice to be able to walk Bar Harbor.

Review 62:Many shops in town are closed for the season. Lobster shacks are closed too. It's good that we found a few restaurants that offered lobster rolls.

Review 63:View from our room, ferry boat ride, lobster meals, reel cinerama, and kindness and friendliness of the people. .

Review 64:My wife and I thought this was the best hotel/resort that we have ever stayed at in Maine. Maybe it was the stunning sunrise over Frenchman's Bay, that we watched from our ocean-side balcony. Or maybe it was the best, most diverse complimentary breakfast we ever had. STAY HERE!

Review 65:The smell of something sour, maybe milk, when first entering the breakfast room. The restaurant, bar, and spa were already closed for the season.

Review 66:Staff, variety of breakfast options and beautifully presented, a list provided at check-in of local restaurants still open, THE VIEW

Review 67:We loved the location and our room, overlooking the ocean! The weather was cold and rainy, but we were prepared and the Inn provided umbrellas (!) which made our walks possible! The Continental Breakfast was varied and much appreciated!

Review 68:the continental breakfast, was bare bones, and opens at 7 not 6 for those who are early risers.

Review 69:the 24 hour desk was nice when all other hotels close at 8pm

Review 70:Can't think of anything.

Review 71:The Inn and room ambiance made coming back from a day of touring, hiking and boating a wonderful experience. We loved the room. The Inn was centrally located for easy walking to downtown for shopping and restaurants and right next to the docks for ocean excursions. Our unit had a small patio open onto a garden area that was very nice. Views everywhere were excellent too.

Review 72:It is time to replace towels/linens for bed and bathroom.

Review 73:The location was perfect, as were the hotel grounds. All individuals we encountered from front desk to lounge were very pleasant.

Review 74:The included breakfast seemed to be constantly running out of food or dishes. The room was expensive for a typical hotel room but the view is what you are paying for.

Review 75:The breathtaking view from our porch made our trip!! The proximity to town made everything in walking distance. This is THE place to stay in Bar Harbor. Lots of friendly hikers and bikers staying at hotel.

Review 76:The room was small and although we paid an extra $20/day for a third person, we received towels and glasses for two. The glasses were never replaced with clean ones. The gift shop woman does not belong in retail much less the hospitality industry. Reception desk staff could also use a refresher course on hospitality.

Review 77:Location at the harbor was terrific, and the lounge in the main inn comfortable and conducive to a leisurely start to the day or an afternoon respite from hiking. The porters were very hospitable and the gardener downright friendly and willing to answer all questions about the lovely gardens.

Review 78:The inn needs repairs as her age is showing.

Review 79:The gracious service and surroundings. Excellent service with a smile. Grounds were beautiful. Perfect location right on the ocean.

Review 80:We thought the room was a bit beat. The carpets were fine. The tub surround had been redone (cheap fiberglass) but frankly of all the places we stayed, this room was not as good as the others. Even the Holiday Inn Express in Seabrook had better rooms. We had decided to eat at the Terrace Restaurant but when the cruise passengers left they closed it.

Review 81:We loved the location and had a waterfront room. There is a great path that takes you a ways. It is very close to town. When the cruise ships are in town some come to the Terrace Restaurant. The ships anchor right off shore. The staff was helpful and friendly.

Review 82:When I booked this place I didn't know I would have an UP HILL walk( about 3 city blocks worth) with coronary artery disease. I would never have booked there. We assumed (you know what they say about that word) We would be in the actual hotel for what we paid!! When in the lobby I felt very uncomfortable. Apparently the rooms there were $500 and up. I felt like we looked down upon as "those people up the hill" kind of thing. It would not have been bad if they would have had shuttle service up and down. But the employees and maids had them! I notice (although the room looked clean) that the dust on the floor lamps was thick enough to write on and I did. Also took a picture. Our garden view was actually three half dead trees. The balcony was filthy. Dead leaves on the chairs Spider webs and even a little spider came with that room! We stayed other places throughout Maine for half that. They were 10 times more beautiful. Spotlessly clean and had ocean views. Don't recommend this place unless you're on a cruise or bus tour. Those seem to be the people treated with respect!!

Review 83:I had a great massage! Very nice spa. Employees there were sweet and kind. The area was pretty.

Review 84:Wifi was a little weak. Pillows a bit hard. Price is high but if you want the location and quality experience then you must be willing to pay for it.

Review 85:Location about the best for view of Harbor. Breakfast buffet was excellent! Massage on site was excellent. Close to downtown for access to shops and restaurants. Onsite parking excellent. Rooms clean and large enough.

Review 86:Warm breakfast would hit the spot, but there was fruit, pastries, cereal, bagels, toast, etc.

Review 87:The hotel is on the harbor...amazing views from the rooms balcony. The room was clean and well maintained. The staff was very nice and friendly. Whale watching/nature cruises are wthin walking distance of the hotel. Arcadia National Park with the backdrop of Bar Harbor. The town has many gift shops and restaurants, all within .5 mile of the hotel.

Review 88:The room furnishings and decorations were outdated and the beds/mattresses were uncomfortable. Glad we only had to sleep on them two nights. If they would update the rooms I would give this hotel an excellent rating all around.

Review 89:Nice and helpful staff, incredible views at the tip of Bar Harbor, convenient to town-shops, eating, and local transportation, good continental breakfast included in price.

Review 90:Antiquated TV remote/guide system. Teensy coffee pot which took 1/2 hour to make only warm coffee. No elevator to second floor ocean-view rooms.

Review 91:Fabulous location. Beautiful sunrises. Good complimentary breakfast, but no hot eggs or meat. Great fruit.

Review 92:A once wonderful facility in need of a complete restoration. Reminded me of the old Cloisters in South Carolina before their redo. The place is just old, but the people still come. A which comes first dilemma for management I am sure.

Review 93:Excellent location for all Bar harbor activities

Review 94:Noise from ice making machine Coffee maker in toilet??? Light out in bathroom Dust and dirt under furniture Nothing short of an expensive Motel

Review 95:Breakfast

Review 96:Hotel is showing it's age. The shower in room 417 needs attention and so does the balcony door. The free breakfast is like a Holiday inn express and you have to clean up after yourself. When I'm on vacation I don't want to do the work I do at home.

Review 97:Mainly location

Review 98:Breakfast crowded and nothing special at a hotel where you expect special. Rooms in annex building no better than a motel but much pricier.

Review 99:Location relative to town activities and ocean view

Review 100:We most enjoyed looking out over the water at the islands, and scenery. The hotel is right on the waterfront, and just a short walk to the shops and restaurants. Being in the midst of Acadia National Park was a big asset too.

Review 101:A little pricey for most people, but, again, worth the treat.

Review 102:Excellent location and facility. Beautiful views and within walking distance to town center. Continental breakfast is more than adequate. If you want to treat yourselves, splurge a little on Bar Harbor Inn.

Review 103:This hotel is in need off some serious maintenance. Pillars around our balcony showed extensive rot, paint around several windows of the building was peeling extensively and there was a lot of black mildew on the outside of the building. The flagmast on top of the building was crooked and the flag was not hoisted all the way up. Think this shows little respect. Our room was not ocean view, which of course is our choice, but if you have a room like that, you are way better of, to go somewhere else, as it is quite expensive and the room does not even have comfortable chairs. It's nothing but a room you find in any motel, with very few points where it shows you are in an upscale place

Review 104:Very nice breakfast

Review 105:We liked everything.

Review 106:Everything was perfect for our family gathering where we celebrated 3 family birthdays. The hotel facility was amazine, and all that I had hoped for. Area activities were diverse with something for everyone to enjoy. Dining was excellent at the hote.

Review 107:Restaurant told us to book earlier reservation to ensure front window seat. We complied by arriving @ 5:55 and were seated in the back corner. Ruined the Anniversary Dinner, which they didn't mention and I think fumbled. They seemed so per-occupied with phones and people table jumping that we all of a sudden waited over10 minutes to be unceramoniously shoved into the corner. Spa didn't work for 3 days, and had dirty water. Should have put a sign up.

Review 108:Location. Front desk staff. Breakfast Buffet & Staff. Nice gesture of Sparkling Wine gift from Hotel for 10 year anniversary.

Review 109:Although the continental breakfast choices were extensive, we felt that having to bus our own dishes was not in accordance with the price we paid for our room. The attendants worked very hard to keep up, but it seemed they needed more staff to keep the serving trays full and dishes, cutlery, etc. stocked.

Review 110:The location is excellent - our deck provided a beautiful ocean view and was so convenient for downtown shopping and dining. The landscaping is lovely and our stay was peaceful even though the inn was very busy.

Review 111:We thought the mattresses and the pillows were not up to par with the price of the inn

Review 112:We loved the location, staff and the food were excellent; the beds were not as comfortable as we would have liked, but they passed

Review 113:The attitude of the staff is arrogant and way to lay back. Examples: The pool should open at 9, but after 3 talks to the reception finally a guy showed up at 9.30 and opened the pool without a sorry for that or offer a free drink on the hotel for the trouble or anything. In the hotel bar - we asked what kind of coctails they could offer, as we saw others got a cocktail - but the waiter, after looking very tired said that she would only offer beer in a bottle. 10 min later she gave us the beer - no glas, no smile. Another 10 min and then another waiter locked the door so we had to walk around the hotel to go to our room. Third thing - most rooms have free breakfast, but you have to clean after you self. Most of the food is not that good and the waiters are not good at fill up mixing stuff. That would be ok for a 60$ motel on a highway - not a 300$ hotel in Bar Harbor. Pick another hotel and walk by this hotel and enjoy from the outside the nice location and building. Last thing - a planen power cut from 2-5 during the night ofcourse resultet in closing the wifi - no problem in that. But we had to call reception at 8.30 when we got up. A hotel at that price should be able to think them self and make sure things work. Attitude issues among the staff.

Review 114:location

Review 115:Not as many warm friendly smiles as hoped. Staff didn't always smile & gave minimal information with questions. For example, when I asked about a coffee lid locale, the man at breakfast just pointed to them across the prep area. No words were spoken.

Review 116:Liked the close proximity to town, the vow, the room, the breakfast, the garden view/ entry to our rm.

Review 117:Nitpicky stuff. AC didn't work but it fortunately wasn't an issue the weekend we were there. Happy hour times were different than what was posted.

Review 118:Beautiful location and very nice hotel. Staff was very helpful. Would definitely go back.

Review 119:The room was run down and not very clean. The king bed was wore out. The staff not very helpful nor did I ever see one of them smile.

Review 120:Spa was excellent! The location is the best in Bar Harbor. Very easy to walk to everything.

Review 121:Power went out for several hours due to high winds. No back generators at Inn or most of downtown. Didn't get to eat until late. Not a big deal for us but if it was a family with children it would not have been fun!

Review 122:Area, shops, facility was nice.

Review 123:our room was in a separate building from the main hotel. the view was of a parking lot. the room was older and in need of updates. for the money, the room and location of the room itself was not worth it.

Review 124:the grounds were beautiful and the view from the shore was great.

Review 125:bike rent van took my parking spot when I drove for dinner down the street.

Review 126:Location was perfect, you can leave your car and walk easily into town. comfortable bed, continental breakfast was excellant and big, room was big, bathroom was big, balony was big and private, staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 127:Would have liked to have a few hot items on breakfast Buffett

Review 128:Location makes for a walkable vacation. Close to wonderful shops and restaurants . Beautiful relaxing area at the park where you can sit and watch boats in the harbor and just people watch.

Review 129:the room smelled like mildew, a very strong odor. the wall to wall carpeting is ugly. the room is on the 1st floor, right on the little winding path that goes along the sea and there are people walking along that path all day long. because they are noisy, the room is noisy and offers no privacy at all. very bad value for people who want to relax. pick a room in the main building or none at all!!

Review 130:the view of the bay is amazing. the restaurant is very elegant.

Review 131:A hurricane passed through over the fourth of July and the staff set umbrellas at our doors, made coffee without power and kept the cocktail lounge and restaurant open and went out of their way to make the stay feel safe, secure and comfortable. Will definitely return!

Review 132:The only negative was when we went to check-in the didn't have our reservation. It took them a while but eventually did find it, they just hadn't recorded it :(

Review 133:Loved the beautiful scenery and the sound of the waves from our balcony. The lobsta was delicious, out of the shell, in the shell and in a roll, yummy. Acadia National Park is an absolute must see.

Review 134:Nothing

Review 135:Reception and restaurant staff

Review 136:Very nice view!

Review 137:Perfect location right harbor-front. Great breackfast. Room was very comfortable. Staff was extremely kind. Definitely reccommended.
