Reviews for Estalagem Santa Iria

Review 1:It's a classic building with few and limited improvements. Lack of acoustic insulation might be a problem for the rooms above the restaurant on weekend evenings.

Review 2:Staff quality was very good. Location also very good being basically located in a nice garden in an island on the river. Nice parking space in a city that doesn't have much of that. It was nice to have a very decent wifi in an old classic building. Good value for your money considering winter rates.

Review 3:There was nothing that we could .mark as didn't like

Review 4:Wonderful welcome and a very freindly service. Perfect location near the old city and the citadel.

Review 5:lovely old world charm and so unusual in Portugal to have waiter service, including freshly squeezed orange juice brought specially to the table, we could hear it being prepared for each new arrival!

Review 6:The location of the hotel on a small island in the middle of the town surrounded by large trees. Balcony with a view of the templars castle. Charming old furnishings.

Review 7:The hotel is very dated and could use an update, the breakfast although in a nice enough dining room was less than good, the staff, while well intentioned, seemed "distant", to say the least. Room and bathroom were very clean, so slept well for the night we were there.

Review 8:The place is well located in town and sits on a lovely island/park right in Tomar.

Review 9:Very poor quality of food for breakfast. The yogurt was luke-warm and they only had Corn Flakes to add to it. Muesli or bran is much better. The buns were all white, no brown. Three slices of thin cheese and ham for two people. No eggs or other sources of protein. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and delicious as was the coffee. Poor value for 10€.

Review 10:Beautiful location on a small island in the centre of Tomar, Portugal.

Review 11:A small point - the lighting in the hotel corridors is not automatic, which is unusual these days, and it was difficult to find our way safely in the dark. Severe lack of staff around, eventually I had to go and knock on the kitchen door when we needed to check out in the morning.

Review 12:Excellent location, a spacious and quiet room with a balcony. Very peaceful. Plenty of easy parking.

Review 13:None

Review 14:The setting of the property is amazing- in the middle of the central Tomar park. Stuff was attending though without any smile that we are used to in USA

Review 15:Nothing in particular.

Review 16:Amazing location on a little park/island with waterfalls, playground and facilities to rent small rowboats or pedal boats. Two minutes from the main street, 5 to the church and 20 minutes walk to to Knights Templar castle/ "Convento de Cristo!the restaurant is quite good as well but not open when guest numbers drop. In particular

Review 17:Beautiful, excellent location! Close to all the major sites. Lovely staff, will recommend to friends and family. Excited to return to your beautiful city, beautiful people, and beautiful hotel! Thank you for an amazing experience!

Review 18:breakfast choices limited, bread rolls, cornflakes, cheese and ham. also shower very odd - felt i needed a step ladder to clamber up into it.

Review 19:Lovely old building, beautiful grounds/park, sunny juliet balcony overlooking the river

Review 20:Hotel is on an island that is a public park. Was occasionally noisy into the wee hours of the morning ... butnot a big deal

Review 21:Location on an island, comfortable bedroom, friendly and helpful staff and good view of the castle

Review 22:The breakfast was adequate but could have been made more interesting and satisfying.

Review 23:It was so well located for walking around the town and visiting the Convento do Cristo and the park.

Review 24:This place is fantastic for Tomar visiting... absolutely perfectly located, in the middle of the river on a little island, easy to find if driving. The staff were so so friendly and helpful. Lovely place... recommended!

Review 25:Some of the bathroom fitting are very dated and the bathroom only had a small shower and no bath but this hotel does feel like a listed building so it can be forgiven.

Review 26:The location and staff were both excellent. The hotel is more like an historic building with religious overtones and very traditional in design and feel. Our rooms were pristine although a little small but the superb central location in a gorgeous park more than made up for this.

Review 27:Limited choice at breakfast. Only a cold breakfast was available. It would have been nice to have toast and eggs

Review 28:Staff were very attentive and attended too our requests promptly ... always with a smile.

Review 29:TV in room limited to 4 Portuguese stations but large TV in lovely comfortable downstairs public room has all stations.

Review 30:Classic warm and comfortable Portuguese style and hospitality. Stay gives you a feel for old and charming Portugal. Freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast a nice touch. Great location in park in old part of town.

Review 31:!!! In no case do not eat in the restaurant! It's awful and taste and service. We left in the middle of dinner, unable to bear the torture. So bad in the wonderful culinary country Portugal we did not eat anywhere else!

Review 32:Parking

Review 33:The room was large, discretely decorated with good views of Tomar. The breakfast contained fresh juice and bread and though it did not have extensive choice was perfectly fine.

Review 34:We enjoyed visiting the castle, wandering around the old town and sampling the local cuisine. Everything was within a short walk of our accommodation. The hotel was picturesque, located in a park on a small river island in the centre of town, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 35:- Constant lack of hot water and heating in the rooms. This hotel desperately needs a new boiler system - Very slow Wi-Fi - Decor is very dated albeit charming in a shabby chic kind of way

Review 36:- Beautiful central location - Warm and efficient service - Lovely old building - Great breakfast

Review 37:We didn't mind, but be aware that there are no elevators and the beds are double, maybe queen-sized.

Review 38:Beautiful historic building on a small island in the middle of town, very friendly staff, would gladly return. Definitely not glitzy or high-tech but utterly charming.

Review 39:The charm of this hotel, which was built around 1950, has sadly faded. It was once 4* and is now 2* and barely deserves that. Our room smelt fusty and damp, the beds were hard and uncomfortable, the bathroom fittings didn't work, there was black mould around the bath and window and the water came out brown, leaving a layer of dirt in the bath. Even the white plastic furniture on our balcony was grey and broken. Carpet throughout needs replacing and the stair carpet is a death trap. This hotel needs a complete up-date and I honestly could not recommend it to anyone.

Review 40:Good location in a park alongside the river and very handy for walking into the old town. Breakfast was enjoyable with a choice of bread rolls and jams, yogurt, cereal, orange juice, cheese and ham. The dining room is probably the best room in the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 41:Beds were rock hard. It is an old hotel with charm that would benefit from a sprucing up.

Review 42:Charming garden/park setting right on the river and at the edge of the town center. Great walks and restaurants nearby made visiting the castle very enjoyable. Very nice staff as well to attend to our needs.

Review 43:This hotel is on a small island, set amongst pine trees and a small river; very pretty. The hotel is a little faded, but still quite nice. Our bedroom was fine with a small balcony overlooking the park. I think because the pipe work is old, the bath water ran orange with rust, and the hotel corridors had a stale cooking smell! Breakfast was simple but perfectly adequate, in fact the nicest coffee of our whole trip. Plenty of parking, very good value for money.

Review 44:Very dated for the cost Teenagers roaming, smoking, making out in park until very late Carpet in stairway was dangerous! No elevator Breakfast quality/selection compared to others is sub par. Can be tricky to find location

Review 45:Location Old world charm All Staff was very kind Parking free Quiet with stream background noise

Review 46:Needs a bit of maintenance on balcony. No air conditioning in room, but a fan was provided and was adequate.

Review 47:Nice location on island in a park setting close to main pedestrian street in historic section. Walking distance from the train station and to the convent. Easy to find. Nice breakfast. We were there on a Friday and hotel is easy walk to a large open market.

Review 48:In some weekends in summer there is music playing very loudly in the park.

Review 49:The hotel has a pretty location on an island in the river surrounded by trees. Every member of staff went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. Close to the town centre but a peaceful location PROVIDING THE PERIODIC SUMMER MUSIC ISN'T IN TOWN!

Review 50:The staff could be a bit hard to find at times, but it was slow so they were often away from the desk. Beds are a bit hard. Was a little hard to find, because you have to cross over a tiny bridge that doesn't look like it's a road. Just follow the sign!

Review 51:This is a bit of an aging dowager of a hotel, but it is in a beautiful location in the middle of a tree-covered park right next to the heart of Tomar and offering easy access to the amazing Convent de Cristo. It could use a make over to be sure, but my price was very reasonable and the room perfectly comfortable. Also great parking right out front.

Review 52:The hotel seems to have been very nice thirty years ago, now the services are quite poor and the staff not always so nice. The breakfast is limited as well, they only bring bread, jam and butter and it seems quite poor. Notice that the hotel had 4 stars many years ago, now I think it is classified as a 2 stars hotel.

Review 53:The hotel is located on the river, making the area around the hotel very impressive. Moreover, it is very close to the city centre, so it is very easy to reach the restaurants and castle.

Review 54:Nothing really - it's a traditional hotel, few modern bells and whistles.

Review 55:The Estalagem is perfectly located in the park, with nice views all round of the river and the water mill wheel, and very handy for the town centre. Extremely peaceful at night. Rooms are a little small, and furnished with old-fashioned but good quality traditional furniture. Ours had a pleasant little balcony. The breakfast is a bit unimaginative and rather formal, but pleasant enough. The staff are impeccably turned out in red waistcoats, and are polite and helpful. Everything was spotlessly clean.

Review 56:Very old facilities and unconfortable rooms. Going up the stairs looks like you are in a very cheap and ordinary hotel. Breakfast is very poor.

Review 57:The only positive aspects are the location and staff

Review 58:Convenient to the sights and scenes of Tomar, this is a well run traditional inn. Highly recommended if you have a car, as the parking is ample and easy to find.

Review 59:Staff was the worst possible, there aren't any lifts and they didn't help elderly people to carry their luggage up the stairs. The hotel does not allow smoking but the notice is very small and no one warns you about this. One of the people traveling with us genuinely did not see the sign and was fined for it. The problem, however, was the manner in which the owner approached us: I have never seen a hotel owner or staff act in such a rude manner towards their customers. Also the shower drain didn't work which made showering an unpleasant business.

Review 60:The building is lovely and located in the middle of a park, however, everything else was so terrible that it does not make up for it.

Review 61:none

Review 62:very clean. good position, heated rooms. staff served with smiles.good breakfast.

Review 63:The site is unique, over a short bridge and surrender by water. The air is fresh in the morning.

Review 64:Staff and Customer service was great. Location is ideal with adequate parking. Having restaurant on-site for dinner was good too.

Review 65:Location and friendly staff.

Review 66:The location to the centre and the parking.

Review 67:Probably would like more choice at breakfast.

Review 68:Loved the very pleasant and relaxing location. Comfortable room free parking and could walk everywhere.

Review 69:excellente situation, hotel un peu désuet, tres bonne restauration, service à l'ancienne, charmant

Review 70:Room was little dark and did not have a refrigerator or hairdryer

Review 71:Perfect location, very friendly and stylish staff

Review 72:Double-booking meant not having what we asked for!

Review 73:The location is beautiful!

Review 74:Location and atmosphere/style

Review 75:very poor breakfast

Review 76:location

Review 77:Quite old fashioned but very, very friendly and helpful staff

Review 78:breakfast :minimum don't go to the restaurant

Review 79:it's very well located

Review 80:The carpet in the room should be remove

Review 81:The location and the breakfast

Review 82:quiet,relaxing,worth every euro. staff could not be more polite or helpful. beautiful surroundings, tomar exceeded our expectations

Review 83:Friendly staffs, nice breakfast.

Review 84:Most of our esxpeience there was very bad.I will write a letter about the services of this accommodation to you soon

Review 85:Hard to find anything to not like.

Review 86:Fabulous location, old world ambience, excellent food and service. Highly recommended!

Review 87:Rooms confortable but need refreshment

Review 88:Location

Review 89:Hotel on an island in a park in the centre of town. Excellent, obliging staff

Review 90:Retro style hotel, green and quiet location in the middle of the Tomar. Friendly and helping staff. Definitely a place to stay.

Review 91:Hard beds Dated accommodation

Review 92:No problems.

Review 93:Although they had had a couple of receptions during the day and were clearing up after them that was not a problem and the when we ate in the waiter was very helpful in suggesting what they could do for us. Really unusual locatio in a park on an island. Actually much easier to find thatn the directions suggested. Good parking, good breakfast and friendly staff

Review 94:There are 2 kinds of rooms. At the front and at the backside. We had a room at the backside. There another bigger hotel is standing -> loud in the night (machinery), and blinking advertisement. Because the windows are not equipped with wire we had a lot of moskitos and found no sleep.

Review 95:Nice hotel. For my next stay I will book a room at the frontside.

Review 96:carpet in bedroom, faulty taps in bath, room smelt of smoke/air freshener on arrival, odd way of serving breakfast

Review 97:location, the park around the hotel, balcony, fresh orange juice, good room size with good furniture

Review 98:The beds were a bit hard and the plumbing was noisy. A challenge to take luggage upstairs.

Review 99:Central location, good parking. Good breakfast. Good shower.

Review 100:Bathroom had bad venting with a strange odor.

Review 101:Location was visually beautiful even all of the rain we experienced in tomar. Hotel was old world in charm.

Review 102:No all was ok. If you like to get away from all distractions. This is the place to stay.

Review 103:Hospitality was great, warm and welcoming but this was the main plus of my experience of visiting Portugal. Great food and internet access was a must for me. On another note, the lovely lady at reception helped our Tomar experience with a fantastic recommendation with a super and great experience in recommending the Tabuleiro restaurant great food great prices and most especially fantastic hospitality!!!!! The hotel staff had made our business trip a fabulous journey and most enjoyable. Thank you all to the hotel staff.

Review 104:The gps on the IPhone took us to the completely wrong area - a web oftiny streets which was extremely difficult to navigate, and was notwhere the hotel was. The gps on the Android took us to the correct area.Be aware! The beds were very firm (very!). It was not a luxury room byany means, but a clean, comfortable and convenient place to stay in avery enjoyable city. Also, I felt it would be a long walk to the Conventde Cristo. We drove and parked at the top of the hill. The Conventitself is a lot of walking, I could not imagine walking back and forthfrom the hotel as well. But parking was easy and free at the Convent, sono problem.

Review 105:Great location in the heart of Tomar. Free parking was a super bonussince it is difficult to park in the city. Easy to stroll around, havedinner and walk back to the hotel. Free wifi worked very well. We droveto Lisbon airport directly from here and it took us about 90 minutes.

Review 106:Great Staff, rooms were lovely, balcony's and flowers and river views plus convenient to walk around town. Staff also helped with tips about town, Nice to have a parking lot.

Review 107:Nothing, we like it all.

Review 108:Great hotel to stay in the centre of Tomar but located on its own island in the river. Good parking, nice rooms with a balcony with a great view and sunshine. The staff are very friendly, speak English and are always happy to help. Breakfast is really nice. We like this hotel a lot and will defenitely stay again.

Review 109:The setting is fabulous.Tranquil park surrounded by streams. Staff was good. Get a room with a balcony view of the park. Also, close to everything. Just because furniture is old, does not make it antique.A few repairs should be done soon before it crosses over to shabby. However, the pluses far outweigh the minuses.

Review 110:Dinner at the Estalagem was fun because of the old-fashioned atmosphere, but the quality of food and wine was disappointing.

Review 111:Located in a truly lovely, peaceful park at the edge of the old town. Our small terrace and window looked out over park, river and Convent ofChrist. Lounge had a fire in the fireplace. Wifi worked everywhere.Excellent quality/price ratio.

Review 112:Breakfast was too poor.Hotel should prepare bigger choice of food for breakfast. There were not fresh fruit. There were 2 rools only for each other. There were not eggs or toast bread and other things that i have found in other hotels. Hotel offert only rolls plus tea, coffee, milk, few small pieces of cheese and ham plus small youghurt and small glass of juice. That was all.I would like to see also vegetables and bread. And inside the room there were not even kettle no hair dryer. The water in tap in bathroom was stinky and nearly was brown i think because the river which is located just in front of hotel was very dirty in february , which is rainy season in Portugal. The bath was no too big.

Review 113:I did like bar inside the hotel and brekfast room was also nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean with nice fresh linien and warm. The location of hotel was excellent. The view from the hotel was great i really enjoyed it.

Review 114:We could not get internet access apart from leaning on the counter in reception. Breakfast was also a little sparse, 1 small bowl of cornflakes between two people did not go down very well.

Review 115:The location.

Review 116:the traditional authentic furniture is starting to look a bit dusty. 2nd: the tourist-train only finishes at the hotel/park. For the start, you'll have to walk 200 meters (the staff didn't know this :(( )

Review 117:Location location location! Situated at the perfect place in the town, in a very peaceful park. If you are there just to pass through and check out the monuments, this is a very fine choice.

Review 118:it's outdated, clean but renovation should do well; specially the bathroom

Review 119:it's a great location; near to the castle and the centre; very friendly staff. Room with a terrace on 1th floor

Review 120:Things little faded with decor. Breakfast average.

Review 121:Very helpful staff despite little English spoken. Very understanding when we had to cancel room for our friend at late notice due to her having an accident and ending up in hospital. Lovely balcony room in park setting.

Review 122:Restaurant closed as wedding reception being held at the hotel

Review 123:Large balcony with lovely views of the park and the town Proximity tothe town and the Convento de Cristo

Review 124:No elevator. Poor breakfast (continental style) comparing to other hotels in Portugal.

Review 125:The excellent location of the hotel on the island inside the park. The guests can enter to the parking area under the sign "No entrance" (GPS can not detect this location). Nice restaurant with brilliant service.

Review 126:Shabby rooms and shabby service, how can this be 4 star? 2 star maybe. We waited from 7 45 to 9 00 for our first course at dinner, mumbled apologies were given. On leaving next day I complained but no apology and no reasons were given, there was no complaints book. Avoid.

Review 127:Only the location
