Reviews for Hotel Dos Templarios

Review 1:Breakfast ok but not at 4stars hotel level

Review 2:Perfect location 5 mins walk from the city center, so you can leav the car and just walk around; big room with view on the river/city.

Review 3:Some rooms start showing sings of water damage, but nothing to scare you off.

Review 4:Big rooms, huge beds (though 2 twin beds put together), separate shower and bath, nice breakfast selection. Outside pool is closed in winter, but the indoor one is a-OK one for change.

Review 5:We were lucky to be given the most fantastic room with balcony right at the front of the hotel - sort of like the "presidential suite". It was huge and as comfortable as it was attractive. All of the staff were helpful, professional and smiling at all times. Victor, the charming manager, apologized for the renovation works in the public area but we assured him that they didn't bother us at all.

Review 6:Nothing

Review 7:The reception was excellent. The indoor pool was great. Everyday we took our 8 month old daughter and she loved it. The food was good but would have liked a bit more on the plate.

Review 8:Nothing. Wonderful experience, in fact, booked a second night.

Review 9:The location, the character of the hotel and comfort and elegance of the rooms. View of the castle and river from the room's balcony. The whole package.

Review 10:Nothing.

Review 11:Old Hotel that still is really fancy and worthy of its somewhat past glory. Really beautiful old school hotel. Everything was really clean and the breakfast was gorgeous.

Review 12:The hotel was beautiful and clean. The breakfast was exceptional. We requested a river view and it was granted. One of the nicest hotels, the staff was helpful as we only speak English. Keep up the good work.

Review 13:Hotel is is an excellent location, just a couple minutes walking to both old and new towns. Very quiet location. Room is impeccably clean. Restaurant was fantastic, as was room service one evening. Would highly recommend this property.

Review 14:Not sure why a four stars still have carpet vs hard wood floor. Breakfast at 10€ is too expensive

Review 15:Great location, good mattress, clean bathroom with all the right equipment

Review 16:The hotel is elegant but quite old. Some bedroom modernisation is required, including more electrical sockets, and soundproofing.

Review 17:The location and setting is great and the public rooms are impressive. Bedrooms are a very good size with nice balconies. Staff friendly and efficient.

Review 18:I got married in Tomar Portugal, my husbands home town, last year August. Being from England my family and friends all travelled over to tomar and I decided to get them rooms at the Hotel Dos Templarios.. I managed to strike a deal with the manager and was very happy with the deal. When I arrived my husband and I were busy preparing our wedding. Pre wedding I stayed with my guest at the hotel and then was meant to get a single room. This happened. However, the day before my wedding I was told they couldn't move me to a double room as the hotel was full and therefore my husband and I would have to stay in the single room for our honeymoon!! I was furious and couldn't believe that a year of notice these stupid incompetent people couldn't have reserved a room for the bride and groom.. We got married and spent the night in a single room, two separate beds. I was so furious with the manager Andreia who had dealt with me for over a year before! My husband and I felt used as we had brought so much business to the hotel ie our wedding party but they didn't even have the decency to give us a double room for our honeymoon night.. But moved us to a room two days after. At check out Andreia then made my guests pay more than agreed as she was unable to count 30 guest that were part of my wedding party.. This was the ultimate disgrace and they showed a lack of respect for custom.. I shall never give them my custom again and will never encourage any family or friends to stay there either. An utter disgrace!! Not even a bottle of wine in the room and petals on the bed to acknowledge our marriage... Shame to Hotel Dos Templarios and all management there, in particular Andreia. Very cruel!

Review 19:There was a lovely old man at the bar in the lobby always showing a smiley face and being very friendly!!

Review 20:Lovely big hotel with lots of space to roam around and relax. Bar staff very nice and drinks hardly anymore expensive than places in the town. Bedroom with separate hallway so it was really quiet, and we had a pleasant little balcony. Nice breakfast buffet with lots of things to try.

Review 21:More luxury from the outside than in the small details. The shower was kind of 60's style with no option of a hand held shower head. the toilet door was hard to close and they didn't succeed much in trying to fix it, the staff was kind and helpful but spoke just little English and I had to resort to Spanish and some broken Portuguese to communicate. Some small effort could be put into the bed linen to smell better, though it was obviously clean.

Review 22:Good location in the old city within a short walking distance of the Templar's castle, great view, very rich breakfast, huge comfortable bed, helpful staff at the reception desk. Indoor and outdoor pool, wonderful and impressive decoration, free parking.

Review 23:Bar not opening until 9pm and no wine in minibar. Felt somewhat overwhelmed by large groups of visitors, especially at breakfast.

Review 24:Staff vey friendly and obliging. Restaurant very good and bar prices reasonable. Grounds and facilities excellent

Review 25:The breakfast has no vegtables at all. It could use some . Beside that all was great

Review 26:Very pretty room and hotel. Location is great and we had a nice time.

Review 27:A beautiful hotel, large rooms, wifi everywhere, good breakfast, 5 minutes walking from the beautiful old center of Tomar through the lovely green park and a lake.

Review 28:Close to the points of interest in Tomar. Big hotel, not intimate, but helpful, cordial staff. Very good room and bathroom. Very nice breakfast. There is a pool, a heated pool and beautiful gardens at the premises. Parking space available.

Review 29:Nothing to fault.

Review 30:Despite booking a single, they upgraded me to a twin at no extra cost. Room was superb. Clean & modern. Extremely comfortbale. Fantasic views. Breakfast was awesome. Eggs, bacon, sausages, rolls, fresh fruit juices (variety of different ones), fresh fruit etc. Something to please everyone. They offered secure parking in their underground garage for my bike. Great location to visit the castle and the monastry which is only a 15 mins walk up the hill (or less if you're more fit than me!)

Review 31:We booked romantic package- we were very disappointed as really look forward to this. SO don't waste you money for this package its not worth it. Room should have about 30m2. was half of this size. - Welcome Drink upon arrival --- does not exist!! so on the hotel's pictures you see good size room with nice bottle of bubble with glasses, forgot about it! we did not get any glasses and had to pay for a bottle of bubble 20Euro from a mini bar at room - Romantic Decoration- one tiny candle and pieces of roses flowers on the bed. - Access to the Spa (wet and dry saunas, indoor pool and hot tub); ---indoor pool is tiny, saunas separate for men an women, so did not use it - Late Check-Out (Upon Availability).--- has not been informed about this possibility, but would be nice touch. Room was very tired, same as bathroom very old, bath with shower over the bath has old fashion curtain- disgusting.

Review 32:Great location close to castle and town by foot. Very nice garden and swimming pool. Good breakfast. Wi-fi is working fine, there is plenty space on car park. Bathrobe its a nice touch.

Review 33:We would have liked tea/coffee kettle in room

Review 34:Great location in beautiful city, helpful staff, nice sized rooms, parking on premises, many options for breakfast

Review 35:Only tiny gripe was that the lawn under the bedrooms seemed to get mown rather early in the morning, ie around 7-8ish - at least that got us up and going!

Review 36:Great location a short and pleasant walk from the central square. Small but adequate indoor pool, not too busy even in August. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Staff extremely helpful; the kitchen prepared a packed breakfast for us in our last day as we had an early departure. Bar has very fair prices, but for main meals we ate in town. There isn't much choice and places seem to close on a Monday, but restaurant Piri Piri was good.

Review 37:At this level I would expect body lotion to be part of the bathroom supplies - especially after a day by the pool. The welcome at reception wasn't very enthusiastic.

Review 38:Lovely location by the river, excellent leisure facilities. The dinner was very good and not overly expensive. Dining and bar staff were friendly.

Review 39:This is probably the best hotel in this wonderful town. Read the reviews and I must admit, I was NOT disappointed. Great hotel in a great location and breakfast was excellent. Swimming pool is not bad either!

Review 40:The hotel is spacious and comfortable and after a day of travelling, it was a relief to find a large lovely comfortable bedroom on a beautifully landscaped site and a view of the castle. Breakfast was excellent. Although we did not use it, the pool was inviting and we would have used it had we stayed longer.

Review 41:Restaurant: you can get more quality for half the price in the hotel street restaurants Children: additional 18 euros per night not comunicated in advance

Review 42:Pools, overall environment

Review 43:WiFi was of poor quality in the room and not reliable at all. Cleaning staff usually arrived only in the afternoon.

Review 44:Style of hotel, friendliness of staff, comfort of rooms, good price for excellent value.

Review 45:We were lucky to get a room with a superb view of the convent and river (as requested). The room was spacious and well appointed with the biggest bed we have encountered on our travels! A lovely swimming pool and large comfortable lobby. The very talented pianist was much appreciated. A delicious breakfast.

Review 46:The staff were very friendly. As we arrived late afternoon, the reception staff told me the hours of the Castle and how to get there when we checked in.

Review 47:Minor points - Checkin was a little slow, only one person on desk, though we were a little early at 1.30pm. Hot water at breakfast wasn't boiling, so couldn't make good tea.

Review 48:Lovely hotel, classy layout. Slightly faded glory, but fine. Got a good last minute deal with Booking.com. Barman was very friendly and even gave us a mini port tasting. Breakfast was comprehensive. Parking was convenient and under covered canopies.

Review 49:The bathroom is beginning to show signs of age - water stains on windows from shower over bath, a cracked hand basin and leaking shower cubicle.

Review 50:Location, extensive dining and breakfast options, value for money of evening meal and friendliness of staff.

Review 51:We unfortunately picked our dates to coincide with the beer festival in Tomar...so quite noisey, but not the hotels fault. Also, would be nice to have a cloths iron in the rooms...

Review 52:Great place to stay. Safe, clean, had an air of luxury and with a few minor improvements could easily be a 5 star hotel.

Review 53:Nothing!

Review 54:Great location and superb facilities, with indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center, tennis court, wellness etc. Staff were very friendly and gave us good recommendations for restaurants.

Review 55:One small thing. They forwarded us a key we left behind in the safe by mistake. All was well handled except it was sent to us "collect" (cash on delivery) €4.50. We were surprised and felt that this was "cheap" and in poor taste considering we had just paid over €200 for a 2 night stay

Review 56:We enjoyed the 'old world' charm and service, the size of the room and bathroom and the lovely pool area that we appreciated at the end of a busy day of touring.

Review 57:not a bad experience, but would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms

Review 58:thoroughly enjoyed our stay- staff and facilities were fantastic extremely helpful and friendly

Review 59:Breakfast inadequate for number of guests, spoils stay at hotel for us.

Review 60:Very spacious hotel. Excellent for viewing tourist attractions. Well appointed, large bedrooms.

Review 61:The front desk was a little under-staffed.

Review 62:Almost everything. The location is fantastic for visiting historic Tomar and the Convent of Christ. The rooms were very comfortable. The pool was a welcome relief from the heat. The massages offered in the spa were very reasonably priced and good. The front desk gave good recommendations for places to eat in town. The breakfast was very good.

Review 63:The staff at this hotel were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of shaded parking - a nice pool (indoors and outdoors) Room was spotless and aircon was good. Coffee making facilities in the room would have been good but this seems the norm for Portuguese hotels.

Review 64:Not big issue, just a comment - Couldn't find where to get a pool towel. Found out later it was reception but why not let me know at check in where to get it and offer a towel then?

Review 65:Food was delicious and generous. Would return as great location, good bathrooms, great views and clean rooms. Loved the foyer, lounges and gardens. Good parking too. And I know now where pool towels are ☺

Review 66:We were not informed of the Air Conditioning and Electricity " switch on systems " in advance of finding out that " they did not work " , when we tried to use lamps late on in the evening ! Although probably written on the Cards, useful to verbally make clients aware beforehand.

Review 67:Friendliness and help of staff, class of hotel and the ease of acres to Tomar and sites.

Review 68:Room a bit small with no added perks ie tea/coffee. Conventioners at breakfast pretty noisy at otherwise lovely venue. Pool closed at 9PM - a bit early if you want a dip at the end of a busy day.

Review 69:The central location was the best thing about this hotel. Easy walk to town, park, and monastery. The buffet breakfast was excellent served in bright dining room with attentive staff. Front desk staff also helpful and polite.

Review 70:Great location with clean, comfortable. modern facilities. An easy walk to the old city, with a view to the Convento / Castle! And, the staff was very courteous, considerate and helpful in all regards.

Review 71:Very little. We would, though, have liked to have tea making facilities in the room.

Review 72:Our room had a fine view of the river, the town and the former Templar Castle (The Convento de Christo.) The staff were superlative, the cooking good and the breakfast exemplary.

Review 73:After visit in November, delighted to return to this excellent hotel located in small park alongside river, close to town centre and a steady 15 mins walk to Convento, albeit uphill ! As before, breakfast was good and staff most helpful and friendly. Will try to fit in stay during future visits to Portugal

Review 74:We managed to get the only Superior room with a balcony, but be aware that most of them are without a balcony in contrast to the description on Booking.com.

Review 75:Very good location, good room and a very good restaurant

Review 76:- Nothing. - Staff at the restaurant could be a bit more attentive: If asked about it, I am sure, we had ordered another water or wine etc, but at times, it seemed staff was busy talking among themselves instead of tending to their business (but then, I was travelling with a Japanese friend and things like that are a no-go in Japan, whereas Europeans do not mind, maybe).

Review 77:- location: walking distance from the monastery; quiet, close to the river, easy to park with own parking lot; - having been prompted by booking.com, I decided to do an upgrade for EUR 10 just days before arrival and this got us into the biggest suite in the hotel - with a big balcony just above the main entrance. A free bottle of port wine included. Very nice! - Staff at the reception was very helpful and pointed us to the monastery (absolutely worth it), while we left the car at the hotel. - Dinner and breakfast were also good experiences. - the hotel has been built some time ago, so naturally some areas have a bit of an old fashioned look. But it seems that management tries to do amendments from time to time. - It was too cold to use the spa, when we were at the hotel, so cannot judge that, but it looked great! - Same goes for the pool. - I would certainly stay at this hotel again.

Review 78:The only area for improvement is the breakfast. A wider choice and a more fruit would be sufficient to achieve this.

Review 79:This is an excellent hotel-superb location, superb facilities and friendly, efficient staff.

Review 80:Definitely not a 10 minute walk to the castle - more like 20 minutes up hill minimum.

Review 81:Value for the money. Really a very nice hotel. Outdoor pool is not heated but it was hot so no problem. Indoor pool is a bit small for actual swimming.

Review 82:Staff were efficient, but not especially friendly

Review 83:The note was very easy to find in the town of Tomar. It was large, and beautifully appointed. It appears to be the kind of hotel where conferences could easily be held. It is situated right on a river, and had meticulously groomed gardens all around. The parking was free and very easy to find places to park. The lobby was spacious, with lots of places to sit and relax. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable, bed were perfect. The breakfast was elaborate with many choices - eggs, meats, many kinds of pastries and cakes, fruit, fresh squeezed juices - all very well prepared and displayed. It was convenient to the old town and convent on the hill across the road from the hotel.

Review 84:We booked in before heading off to visit the Convento. My wife is lactose intolerant and we found the range of snacks in the hotel available very limited. We did find a cafe outside the Convento which met our needs.

Review 85:It is a very comfortable, well appoin hotel in spacious grounds in a good location.

Review 86:We had a room overlooking the parking, really dispointing! The hotel is a bit 80tish as property and furnitures

Review 87:Breakfast was realy nice with plenty of choices. Service was great. Public spaces and rooms very clean. Wi-fi excellent. Walking distance from the village

Review 88:I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel. This was about our sixth visit and we never tire of it or Tomar itself. A real treat to stay here. We were blessed with excellent weather in early April so we're able to enjoy sitting around the pool this time.

Review 89:Friendliness of the staff and their helpfulness with all of our questions. The water carafes flavored with mint or oranges and lemon in the lobby.

Review 90:There is nothing that we did not like except that we should have stayed longer!

Review 91:Everything: room, location, comfort, dining room ( including dinner) and the price. Easy access to the sites, beautiful garden and a feeling of luxury ...best value in Portugal.

Review 92:Room amenities seems outdated although the room itself is big Breakfast place and food is a bit disappointing comparing to the high quality service and food of the restaurant Dos Templarios

Review 93:Spacious Superior room overlooking the courtyard and parking area Very helpful and honest staff Great restaurant Right at the city center, not going to miss

Review 94:There is not really any charm or unique identity to this hotel. It's basically just your everyday big 4 star hotel. Nothing special. The staff also does not do much to make quests feel special. It seems like the hotel knows that is popular, so they don't need to put in any real effort.

Review 95:There was a big convention going on during our stay. The reception area was noisy and busy...but our room was perfectly quiet and peaceful. The room and bathroom were very big with plenty of room for luggage....and a couple of cartwheels.

Review 96:The bathroom was a little cold and smelt very damp. It needed a bit of TLC. The bed was also quite hard. Our main complaint though was that there was a works conference there, and some of the participants were very loud (and inebriated?) in the restaurant!

Review 97:Staff were really friendly and gave excellent service, especially in the bar and restaurant. The pool was nice. The location by the river was lovely, and it was very good value for money.

Review 98:room 119 ...the balcony opens almost directly onto very a very very large flat roof which is your view.

Review 99:Attractive Hotel, polite staff, good service, ok Breakfast, clean and comfortable rooms.

Review 100:A very comfortable hotel with a little age (bathrooms) but the size, cleanliness, and BIG TUB made up for any minor views of "age." Great breakfast

Review 101:New room turned out to be filled with intermittent clunking and motor noises all through the night.

Review 102:Our initial room didnt have functioning AC and after their technician had figured this out we were moved to an equivalent room

Review 103:The hallways weren't heated neither was the breakfast room on one of the two days we were there, so it was rather cold. There were no robes available to use in the pool/sauna area.

Review 104:Great location within walking distance of center and castle. Nice breakfast buffet.

Review 105:The entrance to the spa/pool is through the lobby and its is a bit awkward to see people in their swuimsuit whenever you get in the hotel

Review 106:Big room, very confortable. The common areas look great. Excelent location

Review 107:The health club has quirky hours, and rules(mandatory cap for small indoor pool, one piece bathing suits for women. No one seemed to enforce these, but also no one was around and the sauna was cold and the whirlpool locked. The rooms need better lighting above the bed to read.

Review 108:The lobby is so light, large and filled with music. Our two story room was beautiful, clean and well furnished with comfortable bed, robes, complementary port etc. Breakfast was nice, good options and wonderful fruit. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant had excellent food although it is not always open.

Review 109:Although i've asked for a smoking room, it didn't need to smell so bad...and there was no need for the special request since it have a balcony...

Review 110:The location and surroundings, including garden, which are very pleasent. The reception hall and bar are also luxurious.

Review 111:Restaaurant was disappointing. Ambitious 'international' cuisine hid the fact some things were badly cooked, especially given the cost. The waiter took the order wrong and brought the wrong dish to my wife. In taking it back, not only did I have to eat my dinner on my own as my wife looked on, but when it came back the fish had been allowed to dry out! Duck was tough and both Rissoto and soup under seasoned. Wine was great!! Real shame as hotel is a great place.

Review 112:Nice staff, lovely setting, clean and comfortable. Woulod have been a perfect stay were it not for the disaster in the restaurant

Review 113:Large comfortable rooms, excellent overall facilities, good buffet breakfast and lovely location near park, river, centre and Convento de Cristo. Fully justifies 4 stars.

Review 114:This is a grand hotel. The interior decor is tasteful and classic. The rooms are very nice and clean. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and varied, the best I've seen in many hotels. If you are going to Fatima and you have a car, this place is well worth it. It's only a 20 minute drive from Fatima. The Convento de Cristo is also very well worth visiting and is a stone's throw away.

Review 115:perfectly situated for visiting the Convento and a picturesque locaion alongside the river. This is a hotel we've visited before and it never fails to impress. The indoor swimming pool is an added bonus during the cooler months, but theres an outdoor pool as well (swimming caps required)The best recommendation is that I can't wait to go back to this lovely and historic part of Portugal and stay in this excellent hotel.

Review 116:A little far to walk for an elderly couple (late 70's) into centre. No problem for younger people

Review 117:The size of and views from the corner superior bedroom The free lemon or mint flavoured water in reception hall. The Templar association

Review 118:Restaurant staff was rather inattentive. The dessert cart had a "creme brulee" that was practically a bowl if soup sloshing around.

Review 119:Spacious room, well-appointed bathroom, gorgeous lobby and facilities

Review 120:Everything. The large, comfortable room with excellent views, the elegant and relaxing public areas, the restaurant and most of all, the helpful, professional staff.

Review 121:This was my second stay at Hotel dos Templarios - 2 years apart. Large convention style hotel, but do not be put off by this. It has lovely large open reception areas, two swimming pools, all surrounded by well kept grounds and gardens and the river on one side Rooms facing 'Convento do Cristo' have the best outlook.. Or the corner rooms 'Suites' e.g. 225, 325 & 425 are big spacious rooms. 425 has a balcony so this makes internal area a little smaller. We stayed in 225 were very happy..big sliding windows that gave a perfect view to the 'Fortress' Beds are very comfortable A pillow menu is provided. Large bathroom. Excellent breakfast sliced fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, bread, and good selection of hot food Coming back in at night if you have eaten out, it is lovely to hear the piano being played (softly) in the bar area. I highly recommend Hotel dos Templarios and would definitely stay here again. It is no more than a 5min stroll to pedestrian centre of 'Old Town' and an easy 15- 20 min up hill walk to the magnificent 'Fortress' Footnote: eating out - La Bella best Italian food I have had in Portugal. Ate there two nights. If you are in Tomar on a Saturday don't miss the local ' market'

Review 122:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 123:We had a large corner room with an excellent view of the hotel gardens and the castle. The room was very comfortable, the bed was excellent. The patio was a very good size. There were many choices for the breakfast buffet. The hotel was very conventient for visting the historic city and castle.

Review 124:Hair dryer not efficient.

Review 125:We drove and it was easy to find, plenty of parking. Impressive lobby, helpful staff. Room very spacious, great pillow selection. Clean well stocked bathroom, even a window you could open. Very quiet, easy walk to centre of town.

Review 126:We were "upgraded" to a room that literally was 100' by 90' feet. It was like a condo without proper furnishings. They had a 32' TV but you had to sit a mile away and could not see it.

Review 127:Staff were very helpful and accommodating!
