Reviews for Gulevi Safranbolu
Review 1:Climbing the hill to the hotel.
Review 2:A very unique hotel with Ottoman furnishings but also modern facilities. Lovely garden. Classical music. Wonderful breakfast.
Review 3:N/a
Review 4:The breakfast was sumptuous and delicious. The service was professional, friendly and attentive. Two additional attractions were the beautiful garden with the comfortable seating and the offerings of the Gulevi wine cellar. An easy going style!
Review 5:Very thin ceilings and floors - if possible, ask for a room on the top floor.
Review 6:A very authentic place with the charm of an old Ottoman house lovingly restored by Ibrahim bey and his wife Gül. Helpful staff and delicious breakfast. Perfect location.
Review 7:Beautifully restored mansion, right in the middle of town but on a quiet side street leading up from the main square. Very comfy and tastefully decorated rooms, excellent breakfast, hospitable owners. Lovely garden at the back to relax in. The town of Safanbolu is a gem.
Review 8:Our third visit to this hotel and we brought friends with us because we enjoy it so much. We traveled for 23 days around Turkey and stayed in 10 different hotels and this one is the best by far.
Review 9:We are happy with the quality of Turkish breakfast they offered, but some people might find it too simple - basically no meat.
Review 10:-we stayed comfortably in the beautifully renovated historical building, which offered a very nice view of the old town. -staff was very helpful.
Review 11:Waking up in the wee hours of the morning to the smell of burning coal was horrible! The community at large had issues with Americans. First time I felt discrimination while traveling. I'm well traveled, well behaved and conservatively dressed.
Review 12:The accommodation were wonderful once you got there. A bit hard to find. The breakfast was amazing.
Review 13:The bathroom (shower area!) urgently needs some help... In this category, I prefer really clean utilities. And I hope never to stay in a Konak like Gülevi with fire- because there exists NO warning system, such, in Safranbolu´s ancient city with a lot of wooden houses.
Review 14:You really live in the past, in an old Konak, restaurated as living 200 years ago, but, with bathroom and electric lights. There is a wonderful garden, the staff is very friendly, you sleep calm and you will find good beds. If you prefer a very intimate hotel, and if you prefer authenticity, you urgently should choose Gülevi!
Review 15:The feeling of refinement welcomes you the minute you walk through theantique doors of this hotel. The small details within this wonderfulplace will make you feel elegant and calm. The tasteful decoration, thesmooth music, good food and most convenient location have come togetherto make your visit in Safranbolu just perfect!
Review 16:Stairs.Endless numbers of them. This is a hill town, not really suitable for those like me who have trouble walking.
Review 17:Hotel consists of 3 antique Ottoman houses raped and updated. Exquisite room. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 18:Very warm welcome from the owners and the hotel staff, accommodating staff, great location w parking situated nearby, v nice garden (my kids enjoyed it a lot) where you can rest and have an aperitif in the evening (not enough light though once it's night!), v good breakfast, authenticity of the venue (200 years old), we loved the ottoman way of sleeping, they speak v good English and can recommend good places to eat around! They are v good with kids and dogs! Thank you for making our stay pleasant!
Review 19:The rooms are a little dark which is due to the construction from old days.
Review 20:Very good breakfast. Nice courtyard/garden to relax. Well-sized bathrooms with a stylish mix of old and new.
Review 21:Too much Andréa Bocelli. It was quite akward to repeatedly hear Chrismas song on a septembre weekend.
Review 22:Magnificient gardens and decor Great breakfast Caring staff
Review 23:No faults.
Review 24:We had a wonderful experience which included generosity from staff and an interesting conversation on safranbolu history. The building is chic and decor is in keeping with the ottoman style. Breakfasts overlook a lovely peaceful lawn and garden area and is delicious.
Review 25:Traditional and comfortable rooms in a lovely setting. Gardens provide a lovely place to relax in relative peace after a hectic days sightseeing. Good breakfast and secure parking close by. Hasan went the extra mile to help me with some local amenities. He and his wife make fantastic hosts.
Review 26:Room was too cold, without sufficient heating.
Review 27:The location is in the middle of the town. The house is a historical building itself. It is worth staying for the night for the experience.
Review 28:Extremely charming hotel, nicely restored complex of ottoman houses, nostalgic yet comfortable, one of the highlights of my holidays...
Review 29:+ magnificient + a mystical experience + best place to stay in the historic city of Safranbolu
Review 30:Breakfast and our suite with wonderful bathroom.
Review 31:wasp in the jam...which was as bad as it got.
Review 32:So cleverly restored...felt like an authentic experience!
Review 33:nothing

Review 41:Room was a bit chilly in the evenings
Review 42:Well renovated property. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Excellent location.
Review 43:Perfect ...
Review 44:Beautifully restored old house with tasteful rooms that have kept their character. Nice garden is a bonus. Very good quality breakfast.
Review 45:Everything is perfect at this konak, à very well restaured ottoman house
Review 46:Everything was excellent, from the warm welcome with tea and cold wet towels to the rich and wonderfully served breakfast.
Review 47:The staff are very nice and helpful
Review 48:Water went off for awhile during the afternoon. Upper garden area needs to be tidied up.
Review 49:Location excellent lovely garden at the lower level
Review 50:We enjoyed the area and hotel so much that we are now bringing our friends. This was our second trip and we plan on coming back.
Review 51:Room seems to be a little small with a king size bed. Lack of power socket.
Review 52:Nicely designed, very old fashion room. Clean and quite.
Review 53:No complain at all !
Review 54:Wonderfull city, great hotel, great rooms, fantastic breakfast, great helpfull service. Perfect !
Review 55:Fantastic green space for children to run around safely. Ideal locations, walk to restaurants, shops. Nice shaded lounges and tables for relaxation and reading. Very peaceful. Excellent breakfast and wonderful staff!
Review 56:I liked everything. The room was beautiful and the garden setting so relaxing after touring all day.
Review 57:I arrived about 7:30 at night after traveling from Chicago. Mr. Ibrahim Canbulat helped me map out what to do in the four days I spent there. I loved this place. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 58:Three very beautiful and tastefully converted Ottoman villas in the centre of Safranbolu, run by the architect owner and his wife. The breakfast was excellent. One had the distinct impression of being in the most exclusive and best place to stay in the town, at a perfectly reasonable price!
Review 59:A very authentic experience with international cleanness/comfort standards. The property/room we stayed in was even better renovated than Kaymakam Evi or Sipahioğlu Konağı (the Ottoman houses open for visit to see how Ottomans used to live). Excellent breakfast. All in all, don't go to Safranbolu unless you stay in this hotel. My warm regards to the owners Gül Hanım and Ibrahim Bey.
Review 60:We have stayed for a weekend on February, hotel is consist of 3 wooden mansion blocks which all are 200 years old, you can smell the scent wooden when you are in the hotel, all details in the hotel are a product of exquisite mindset. Decoration, objects, service, feeling of antique, Bose underground music system on the garden, breakfast, music taste, service, all are immaculate. Hotel manager and owner Ibrahim Bey is on the board all time and treats guests very well, all the other staff is also very kind and helpful, will definitely visit after their ongoing restaurant project is over. There is a great boardroom for companies who wants to make weekend escape and business combined.
Review 61:N/A
Review 62:Everyone was very friendly and they put on a wonderful breakfast the next morning, The garden area was terrific even in the late fall I can only imagine how nice it would be in the summer, may just have to make another trip back to see.
Review 63:Noise between rooms was quite evident. Curtains were also quite thin. There were lots of stairs, not an issue just something to be aware of.
Review 64:Great location and a lovely hotel. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was lovely. The garden was a delightful hidden retreat. A very pleasant and welcoming place.
Review 65:Host is a bit cool but he is indeed very helpful.
Review 66:The conversion from an old building was nicely done. A lot of common areas for guests to use. Breakfast is also excellent.
Review 67:Would have liked a shelf in the bathroom to put our personal items like toothpaste and face cream etc. on.
Review 68:Safranbolu is an interesting UNESCO World Heritage city site. The hotel was beautiful, only 5 years old, well-maintained, and the rooms were large. Nice bathrooms too. Owner and staff very helpful and friendly. Delicious breakfast. A lot of attention to detail in decor and design, and a wonderfully well-developed sense for beauty in surroundings. An old set of Ottoman half-timbered houses hat were gutted by the architect owner and remodeled as a hotel.
Review 69:The only complaint I have was the wooden floors in the bathroom. There seemed to be mold growing because of these floors. The bathrooms would be much better with tile flooring and a normal, clean shower.
Review 70:This hotel was wonderful! I loved the courtyard area, and it was very convenient for walking around the old part of town. The beds were extremely comfortable and they served a nice breakfast.
Review 71:It was really a pleasure to stay in Gulevi. The owner and his staff are very pleasant and helpful, giving recommendations where to go, to dine out and what to visit. The individually served breakfast, the beautifully decorated house and garden make this place highly recommendable.
Review 72:It seemed a bit awkward to get help from the manager with my busreservations from Safranbolu. Although the room rate representsextremely good value, I still believe that this service should behandled as a matter of course by hotel staff, especially for non-Turkish-speaking travellers.
Review 73:Gul Evi is an absolutely exquisite hotel. It has been lovingly restoredand has lovely, well-cared-for grounds. I saw it described in a travelbook, probably Lonely Planet, as an "affordable luxury," andindeed it is. My room had gorgeous antique appointments and I loved thebathroom! Breakfast is served in a lovely room with a view of thegrounds. I enjoyed a trip to the hamam, right down the hill from thehotel, making my visit Safranbolu like a spa visit. Do not recommendvisiting Safranbolu on weekends as it is, rightly, a very populartourist destination for Turkish people. On Monday morning the town wasempty and much more fun to tour.
Review 74:This lovely ottoman house had spacious serene rooms with a large comfortable bed, a restful atmosphere and an oasis of a garden. It was very close to the hub of the old town and echoed its character. Wonderful service throughout.
Review 75:Design of rooms and garden area. Quirky touches like garden gnome drinks tables and crocheted animals. Good breakfast. Lovely garden area to sit in - oasis of calm hidden away.
Review 76:Breakfast is a little bit simple.
Review 77:A perfect hotel, worthy the cost. I felt I was leaving in a museum. The host gentleman is really nice and helpful. 完美酒店,虽然稍贵但是物有所值。
Review 78:We arrived at the hotel quite late in the night (around 11:45 pm) as wegot stuck in the traffic while getting out of Istanbul and also at thehighway --- however, Mr. Ibrahim Canbulat, the owner himself, waswaiting for us at the hotel entrance with refreshments and a broadwelcoming smile! Even at that late hour, he patiently answered all ourqueries and gave us several suggestions for sightseeing in Safranbolu. The hotel rooms are very tastefully done --- all in Ottoman style and give a homely feeling too. The lush green garden is so romantic and soothing with soft music streaming from speakers subtly placed around the trees at night. For each of the two days we stayed, we had a hearty breakfast served in a cosy setting overlooking the hotel garden. The hotel staff was cheerful and helpful in meeting any special needs. Mr. Canbulat is a food connoisseur himself and when my wife and I told him that "zerde" was a dessert that was savored in Pakistan (where we come from) too, he gave us insights into the different ways it was made and later sent us a print-out of the Turkish recipe to our room!! The hotel itself was so awesome that we just wanted to stay inside and enjoy the cozy rooms, the lovely garden, and Mr. Canbulat's conversation. Of course, we also did a lot of sight-seeing in Safranbolu which is a unique town in Turkey --- we fell so much in love with its cobbled streets, Ottoman-style restored houses, friendly people, and great cuisine that we would like to visit it again and stay once more at GulEvi Hotel which, without exaggeration, is a "jewel" of Safranbolu!! Best regards. Faisal & Family, Istanbul
Review 79:a fabulous hotel. Ibrahim, as an architect, has restored the Ottoman-era buildings superbly. He and his wife Gul run the hotel in a relaxed, laid-back but very professional way, employing very pleasant (and thoroughly professional) staff. Almost impossible to recommend it too highly.
Review 80:Everything was wonderful!
Review 81:The hotel is beautifully designed and very welcoming. Breakfast was wonderful, served in a relaxed environment. Our room was delightful with a great bathroom and with very comfortable beds. Calm surroundings with fantastic areas for lounging and relaxing. All staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. Great location in the heart of old Safranbolu, but tucked away from any hustle and bustle. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely come again!
Review 82:The hotel could offer more in the way of things to do. For example, help with trips to local sites, tours of the caves etc.
Review 83:The atmopshere was very tranquil and the garden was a lovely place to sit. The rooms were very spacious and elegant.
Review 84:Excellent traditional hotel.wonderfully restored 3 ottoman houses.Ibrahim and Gul the hotel owners, did everything in order to feel uslike home. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. Wewill come again.
Review 85:I think some things are to be expected in an antique home; such aswaiting for hot water, but it eventually came through.
Review 86:To begin with, there is no category available for this hotel; it's abeatifully and creatively restored Ottoman home with architectural andartistic accents everywhere. It's a comfortable, peaceful retreatwithin one of the most historically significant towns in Turkey. Theowners are at your beck and call, eager to suggest the finest dining outand even supplied a round trip taxi for a very reasonable price!Exquisite and tasteful come to mind when I recall the breakfast, whichwas graciously offered early upon request. They even worked to improvethe way the eggs were cooked to satisfy our American tastes. The fullrestaurant should be done next year and it will be superb, no doubt. Thecozy fire outside was a delight
Review 87:Amazing atmosphere, both the rooms and the grounds, recommend it to anyone. Great location, too.
Review 88:Poor access to rooms (number of stairs to climb).
