Reviews for The Village Inn

Review 1:Construction just in front of Inn, so noisy and the roads are a mess. We were checked in later afternoon, then never saw staff till morning at breakfast. There was nobody around. I even saw other guests walking around looking for things. Property needs serious updating. Television does not have cable but cannot even get the basic network channels. King bed is 2 twins put together, not very comfortable with a groove down the middle.

Review 2:Loved the location in the town of Lenox. Good restaurant choices. Breakfast was average. Price was a bit less than other Inns in the area, but not sure if worth that.

Review 3:Very Old, with no improvements. Cold in room. Ice bucket but unable to find the ice. No person ever at the desk. For a B&B the breakfast was pancakes OR bacon & eggs, we can get that at any coffee shop, very disappointed.

Review 4:There wasn't anything we liked

Review 5:When I arrived on Friday @ 5:30 PM there was no one at the registration desk. I left, had dinner and came back 2 hours later only to find a sign saying, "Be back in a few hours." Finally learned from the bartender in the basement of the Inn that a key had been left for me in the mailbox at the front door.

Review 6:The location is excellent, in the center of Lenox yet on a back street removed from traffic. The Inn has a lot of Victorian charm but is somewhat worn and needs upgrading. The has a cozy and homey feel to it but was a bit too dark. There were only a limited number of channels on the TV.

Review 7:Parking was available in the back but I had to park down the street to go check in and then found out where to park... Room décor a little outdate

Review 8:Location was great... Breakfast was awesome and the staff was very friendly and helpful...

Review 9:Our room was comfortable and staff was friendly and accommodating. The inn is within walking distance to several great restaurants and close to museums, parks, etc. Still, we were a little disappointed to find the inn's restaurant was closed for lunch and dinner during our visit. Hope to visit again and have the opportunity to try it out!

Review 10:Maryellen the Proprietor was most accommodating. They provide a scrumptious breakfast; pancakes, danish, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit salad and juices. It's a lovely setting and to be able to walk down Church Street to the shops and restaurants is terrific!

Review 11:Antiquated hairdryer - had to ask for a replacement at desk. Would have liked more gluten free choices for breakfast. Staff not only did not answer phone, but was nowhere to be found on second night of our stay. Room had ice bucket, but no one to tell us where to get ice! Property needs updating.

Review 12:Excellent location. Close to shops, restaurants and art galleries. All were within walking distance. Whirlpool tub available.

Review 13:No elevator :(

Review 14:Location! Very nice property. Nice room and great breakfast! Staff was so nice. I left my coat there, they called us, and mailed it to me and it was waiting for me when we returned from our trip.

Review 15:It is in serious need of overal maintenance. Bed was fairly comfortable, but the pillows were awful. Could clearly hear other guests talking late at night.

Review 16:Breakfast was great! Clean.

Review 17:There was no staff on duty during the nite ( other guests came in very late, woke us up outside our room. We placed some items in refrig, noted it was not very clean

Review 18:Staff were very helpful,courteous

Review 19:The inn was old, outdated and creepy. Felt like my grandmothers house. a feeling it was haunted. Rug in the hallway was old and stained. Bed not really comfortable. Mattress was thin. Furnishings were antiques and mirrors foggy. They had a vcr and movies from the 80s!! Dark and a little depressing.

Review 20:Great location if you are visiting tanglewood. A short walk to galleries and excellent restaurants. Surrounded by a quaint town. Breakfast was great. Bathroom was clean.

Review 21:Filthy floors, filthy bedding-wouldn't even put up to my face, locks on doors didn't work-1 door locked shut and couldn't be opened from inside, fire trap, put 70-75 year olds on 3rd floor with no elevator, breakfast mediocre, asked staff for assistance with door locks and they didn't do anything. Stayed at this Inn about 15 years ago and is was ok. I don't think there were any upgrades in 15 years. Would never stay again.

Review 22:While two twin beds pushed together do make a king-sized bed, it was impossible not to feel the gap between the two beds. Room lacked tissues and cups

Review 23:Staff very friendly/helpful. In-town location excellent , walking distance to shops/food. Complimentary breakfast perfect.

Review 24:Tired very small room. Bed is hard. Pillows mediocre TV rather worthless Considering the price, I'd rather an alternative.

Review 25:location and breakfast and quiet third floor

Review 26:This place has a pub which is ridiculous - went in there and the decoration was horrible, music and lights dreadful....too bad owners don't make it a nice pub ... it would do way better than the unclassy mess they have there.

Review 27:The breakfast and ladies serving were awesome.

Review 28:The place in general, and particularly our room, was a bit rundown. The room was small and crowded and the bathroom was particularly tired-looking. There were cobwebs in the corners of the room. The day we checked out, the door to the room across the hall was open, and we were surprised to see how much nicer, both in size and furnishings, it was compared to ours. As we were the only guests (midweek, nothing going on at Tanglewood), we don't see why we were placed in the decidedly inferior room.

Review 29:John, who was in charge while we were there (the only guests at the time), was very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts he prepared and served us were excellent. The location couldn't be better; easy walking distance to excellent restaurants and close to Shakespeare & Co., Tanglewood, and The Mount.

Review 30:The cooking was mediocre--pancakes in particular were heavy and undercooked.

Review 31:the staff was very accommodating and helpful. They found a room on the second floor when we said that we couldn't make it to the 3rd floor.

Review 32:The sheets were substandard and scratchy. The hotel is aging with old carpets, staircases and room decor.

Review 33:Location is in the center of town. Breakfast was pleasant and good.

Review 34:The place was very old but not kept up as well as other inns in the town. Based on feedback we did ask for the first floor, and one room was nice size, the other tiny.

Review 35:The location is excellent, right in downtown Lenox. The only issue is it is very old and somewhat run down.

Review 36:property/facilities in dire need of upgrading air conditioners a reminder of legionnaires disease avoided breakfast (included in price) as there were no allowance or alternatives for food allergies

Review 37:location friendly and helpful staff

Review 38:Quite shabby, interior and exterior. Too reminiscent of 80's B&B's.

Review 39:Location - close to restaurants, Tanglewood, The Mount and Stockbridge.

Review 40:We arrived after 5pm, received our key, and found are room not yet cleaned. The room looked 'tired'. Stains on carpet and bathroom curtains, building poorly maintained. The cost was too much for the condition of the room.

Review 41:Staff was very cordial and apologetic for our room. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 42:Had to look for staff several times. Had window shade come down the first day, told desk, left with it still not fixed. Old non-working stair-lift should be removed... An eye-sore and narrows the stair width. Should be a soda and ice machine available. Lighting in entire bldg is dingy. Entire bldg needs an overhaul, or rebuild it. Sorry for the critical review,

Review 43:Location

Review 44:1. Very shabby and outdated facility 2. No one at desk for more than 3 hrs on weekend. 3. Back door to parking lot was LOCKED mid day with NO ACCESS and double keyed lock on both sides of door. A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD and no one was at desk to speak to. Had to walk around building in pouring rain to get to front door. 4. Facility owned by out of state couple and is for sale. It has clearly has not been updated in years/decades. 5. Tiny soaps, not enough towels, had to ask for toilet paper as roll was 1/4 full when we checked in. Bathroom in the lobby did not have paper towels. 6. I would NOT book at this location again under same conditions. On the positive side: Breakfast was excellent and service at breakfast excellent. Room rate high for the level of accomodation. Given the location and what this B and B could be it was a great disappointment.

Review 45:Location was excellent. In center of Lenox, MA

Review 46:Very poorly maintained. This venerable inn has been allowed to age gracelessly. The owners clearly don't care anymore. Extremely overpriced and disappointing.

Review 47:The building is kind of old and no wI first or flat screen tv. No coffee or tea in the room.

Review 48:I liked the location. Near stores and restaurants. Good full breakfast.

Review 49:Our room was close to the tavern located on the property, the music was an annoyance.

Review 50:The location was perfect, right in the heart of Lennox. Everything was within walking distance.

Review 51:The Inn is charming but it needs some upgrade. We do not mind because our room is clean. The bed is a bit firm for me but my husband doesn't mind. For a short trip to Lenox, this place is fine.

Review 52:Lenox is a pretty town and The Village Inn is right in town. Two wonderful restaurants in the same blocks. The staff is super friendly and make our stay so welcome and easy.

Review 53:Very tiny room in an older Inn that would be very uncomfortable for a larger female and probably impossible for a couple to share.

Review 54:The town of Lenox is historic offering easy access to wonderful cultural centers in Berkshire County including Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Many restaurants and interesting shops were within walking distance from the Inn.

Review 55:Nothing it was fab

Review 56:The room artefacts comfort no mither approach but everything avail we needed. Breakfast lovely fresh. Mary Ellen and Jon ask for them. V helpful

Review 57:The only time that we saw ANYONE off the hotel staff was when we checked in. We tried to get a fan but there was no one available. We also only had 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper and could not find anyone to get us more. (we actually had to take some from a hallway bathroom). Also there was no one around for breakfast as advertised. When we left on Monday morning, there still wasn't anyone there. It was just very strange - def not worth the stay. They didn't even clean the room during the day!

Review 58:The location was perfect - but that's about it

Review 59:When first arriving the clerk said he didn't have our reservation, and then found it but we did not get the deluxe king room we reserved. The Inn is shabby, and in poor repair from what we saw. Peeling wallpaper, cracked walls, funky smells, old worn out carpet, etc. The website boasts fireplaces but we were surprised to find we had to light cans of sterno fuel in the fireplace for a 'fire'. The phone in the room didn't work to call the desk, and when we went down there was no one at the front desk after about 5:00 pm. The home page of web site also said there was a restaurant on site, but it was closed. Rumpey's Tavern was more of an night time club for a local crowd, dark and loud.

Review 60:The location is great, and the bed was comfortable.

Review 61:For the price, I think that some of the spaces need updating and remodeling. There's a difference between historic charm and worn.

Review 62:The breakfast buffet was delicious. The bed was very comfortable. The location is perfectly quaint.

Review 63:the chairs in our room were absolutely filthy as was the carpet and the coverlet, which we had to remove because it was so dirty. the cleaning staff did not bother even to vacuum the carpet after the first night. If I had been paying $150.00 per night, I would have let it go but for $300 a night it was a total rip-off. Also, there are odd odors in the corridors and in the room itself. all in all a very disagreeable place.

Review 64:the breakfast staff was very attentive and the food was good. except for the parlor and the dining porch, however, the place is not kept up well.

Review 65:The location was 3 minutes from Tanglewood and a short walk to Restaurants and shops. The food was fresh and delicious. Room was spacious and had a working fireplace.

Review 66:The room was pretty downpin and a little grotty. It was sad. There was some kind of smell once you left the public areas to go to the rooms, and it felt gloomy back there. THe bed furnishings were nice and as advertised but the rest of the room felt less than fresh.

Review 67:The Staff was friendly. The breakfast buffet was well done, and the little sun porch was a nice place to have breakfast. And the location was perfect.

Review 68:- The facility is rustic in style, but also really, really old - Many items in the bedroom are so old and outdated that they are hardly functional (e.g. TV, video cassette player for movie rental, bath tub, air conditioning...)

Review 69:- Excellent location, right on the main street in Lenox, MA - Really friendly staff - Great breakfast

Review 70:We excused the rickety air conditioner, the peeling wallpaper in the bathroom and the slow flushing toilet as symptoms of a very old building. Then we heard other guests talking about their beautifully remodeled rooms. As guests who stayed for 6 nights, we wonder why we did not receive a better room. Or a lower price.

Review 71:Location is excellent. MaryEllen and staff are helpful and congenial.

Review 72:202 296 0670 Old tube TV, no light over bathroom sink, rugs and wallpaper could use refreshing.

Review 73:Located in the heart of historic town, steps from shops and restaurants. Old fashioned decor, gracious staff, quiet, comfortable room, comfortable bed, excellent breakfast.

Review 74:The service was less than adequate. We arrived late afternoon, and waited at the check-in desk for more than 10-15 minutes before someone appeared to help us (we even tried calling the inn, but no one answered). When he finally did appear, he informed us that he could not find our reservation. After another 10 minutes, he finally found it. The room was very small and tattered/worn down. While the location was ideal, next time I would choose to stay elsewhere.

Review 75:The location of the Inn was terrific - right in the heart of Lenox.

Review 76:Only one problem -- my room was over the bar and the bass from the music thumped beneath me during the night.

Review 77:The room was cozy, clean, and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was generous and served on a sunny porch. The staff was helpful and friendly. The location was excellent -- right in the center of Lenox within walking distance of shops, restaurants, galleries, and Shakespeare and Company.

Review 78:I think that given the progressive changes in eating habits, there would have been more vegan, veggie, turkey bacon alternatives at breakfast

Review 79:The staff, the ambience, the climate--all perfect.

Review 80:Outdated T.V. Worn furniture. Does not take American Express.

Review 81:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Nice breakfast buffet. Excellent central location. Outside seating area. Only issue was resolved immediately (almost as soon as I hung up the phone). Room was spotless as was the rest of the inn.

Review 82:No reading lamps by the bed only a ceiling light.

Review 83:Beautiful historic inn. The breakfast buffet on Sunday morning was fantastic. The bed was comfortable, great water pressure in shower, and the location was quiet even being next door to Rumpy's Tavern where a live band was playing.

Review 84:The room was way too small for the two of us. No place to put our things. The bathroom was awkward as the old sink was in a corner . I felt that the bed covets were very old.

Review 85:The location was perfect. We were a set away from wonderful restaurants.

Review 86:We were disappointed that the restaurant was temporarily closed, through no fault of the Inn. Apparently, the chef became ill. I'm sure they won't be closed long, but we know it's not easy to find a suitable chef on short notice. It certainly won't stop us from booking there again. In fact, we have stayed at other places in Lennox, but we have found where we will be staying from now on!

Review 87:We loved the central location. We were right in the middle of town and only a mile from Tanglewood. The staff were very friendly, but we also noticed that the other guests were also friendly. Their atmosphere seems to attract a more refined clientele. We loved the gardens, with little tables where the guests could take their morning coffee. It was a very relaxing stay.

Review 88:Wonderful location. quiet and relaxing

Review 89:Check in was simple. On site bar was fun. Location in town was good. Breakfast at check out was good.

Review 90:Located right in the village. Quaint rooms.

Review 91:Good varied breakfast.

Review 92:The room was small and the place is showing its age.

Review 93:The desk clerk was extremely helpful and the breakfast divine.

Review 94:The pillows were hard and the facilities needed upgrading

Review 95:Breakfast was great and the inn was near to town

Review 96:Close to excellent restaurant!

Review 101:Great location breakfast was good

Review 102:Its an old hotel so one has to accept its going to be quirky but could do with some updating ,,,,soon.

Review 103:So very cozy!

Review 104:Corridor smelly, decoration very tired ,carpets dirty ,bed creaked at every turn

Review 105:The location and the breakfast

Review 107:Location, excellent breakfast, friendly staff

Review 108:great location friendly staff

Review 109:Facility is old

Review 110:The location was perfect. The Inn is quite old and not updated. The staff were very helpful.

Review 111:To old and run down for our tastes

Review 112:Off street parking and location. Staff very accommodating. Room clean.

Review 113:Furnishing not updated since the 1950's and that the truth

Review 114:Friendly staff, awesome room, and great location.

Review 115:Everything was nice. Was just old and small by today's standards

Review 116:The ceiling in the bedroom was cracked and water stained.

Review 117:Excellent location with a wonderful breakfast buffet.

Review 118:great location and very pleant staff

Review 119:Queen bed room was too small to spread a pad for exercise.

Review 120:Great location in center of old Lenox. Nice and quiet.

Review 121:Very cramped

Review 122:The place is tired and overpriced for what it offers

Review 123:Charming domestic feeling, great location and friendly staff.

Review 124:Old decour

Review 125:Proximity to Tangelwood and breakfast.

Review 126:you need a new Kerig coffee machine.

Review 128:Staff was very accommodating, pleasant and friendly!!
