Reviews for River's Edge Resort
Review 1:Great Location had a great meal at the restaurant overlooking the river. Had a wake up call for the Northern lights and it was worth getting up for most spectacular. Staff were freindly and proffesional
Review 2:A man can be heard trying the door knob before knocking @ 4:30 am, which was scary! The next day we told the girl @ the front counter who just laughed about it.
Review 3:Great cottages, very romantic as the consumers have voted.
Review 4:It's not a bad experience but making dinner reservations was challenging. There were empty tables but we had to come back at 8.
Review 5:We loved the convenience. We enjoyed the bus trip with guided tour. We loved the riverboat cruise. The staff was very helpful and gave good information and great directions. Food was good too.
Review 6:The lady ay your front desk does not understand that guests at hotel are the main and most imortant. She is not nice with customers.
Review 7:Location and facility
Review 8:Nil
Review 9:Great location for us.room was excellent and a very nice restaurant next door meant we didn't have to go out to eat.staff were friendly and helpful shuttle to train & plane
Review 10:Mattresses were uncomfortable. WiFi was only available in lobby. Breakfast is not free so we never tried it.
Review 11:Location and privacy of cottages. Great place to stay.
Review 12:This is our 2nd time staying there. The first time we had a small fridge. No fridge this time. When I asked about it I was told that they were removed because they become to much for house keeping. I brought food/snacks and didn't have anywhere to keep it.
Review 13:Clean, with lots of charm. Staff was very pleasant.
Review 14:we had trouble with the WiFi could not always get on and slow. (this would not keep us from staying again in the future)
Review 15:We liked the location by the river and easy access for coming and going.
Review 16:We had trouble getting wifi, got it one evening after multiple tries.....then second and third night were unable to get wifi back even after multiple tries. Recommend an easier more dependable wifi access.
Review 17:Friendly staff, at front desk and for breakfast ...and we were upgraded to lodge rooms to help out front desk staff so they could accommodate another guest, we enjoyed the lodge room very much.
Review 18:Did not feel safe or comfortable being a solo traveller. Too far out of town, separate cabins, and on a main highway. The shuttle buses cost money, especially for a solo traveller.
Review 19:Wifi service in and out exceptable for location only fault in rooms are that they have no microwave oven in them beds a little low to ground but I give this place a high 8.5 because of cleanliness and maintainability
Review 20:Everything it offer
Review 21:1) problems with Internet. It is something ridiculous - since I have been in Alaska always problems with free WiFi. It seems USA is declining superpower because excuse - the last frontier, the biggest state, etc. is not really trustworthy. Last year I was in Patagonia and even in small towns was not big problem with Internet. I think you should warn your customers which are going to Alaska about those problems. 2) localization of some cabins - too close to highway
Review 22:good cabins, very nice and helpful staff
Review 23:Having a small private cabin and the location. Having the Alaska Chena Grill Restaurant on property overlooking the river was also convenient and food was great.
Review 24:Can't think of a thing!
Review 25:Having a real coffee mug...not paper, plastic, or styrofoam! I hate drinking coffee out of a paper or plastic cup. I will definitely stay here next time I'm in Fairbanks and not just for the mugs..the cabins are much more private than having neighbors on both sides of your dividing walls. Loved it.
Review 26:Food was edible, but I should have stuck to the free centennial breakfast as I'm sure I could have gotten better eggs t McDonalds. And for the price I expected a little more than a bed with clean sheets.
Review 27:Was finally able to check in around 4 even though check in is at 3pm and only after they changed the room they originally had me set up with.
Review 28:Our unit was not available to check in at 3:00 p.m. We had a tired 7 mth. pregnant mother, with a tired 15 mth. old child, and we needed the internet immediately for a business emergency back home and we could not get in. The staff was not cooperative in cleaning it immediately or getting us another room.
Review 29:Loved the little houses. Clean, comfortable, CUTE. It was like a little village. Very charming and fun.
Review 30:We had booked an extra night before meeting with our tour group and had asked to stay in the same room at booking 3 and 1/2 months before but instead had to check out and check into another room later in the afternoon.
Review 31:Cottages were clean. The restaurant on site was excellent. Staff was friendly and accommodating. A young man named James was especially helpful. The hotel also offered their own tours for a very reasonable rate.
Review 32:...however, as we checked in, the list of what didn't work started. The ice machine was broken (90 degrees in Fairbanks), and the Wifi server was down. Both were "waiting on parts". You can fly almost ANY repair part in IF customer service is your #1 priority. On the first night, when we were returning from dinner, there was a large motor home parked right in the entrance to the hotel, making it very difficult to get into where you were supposed to park. When I tried calling the front desk to get it moved, the phone gave a very fast busy signal, like it was off the hook, or ALSO not working. You're paying a premium price for the location, and the "walk by the river" shown on the website is actually a mud path alongside waist high weeds. Mosquitoes were really bad. It's a beautiful property and a great location, but more attention needs to be paid to details that would set it apart, or at least measure up to the picture they're trying to represent on their website. As it was, 2 of the most important things hotels offer as basic services, ice and Wifi, were not available.
Review 33:Check in staff was very nice, and no problem checking in...
Review 34:The wi-fi didn't work in our cottage. It would be better if breakfast didn't end at 9 am - even keeping coffee and fruit available after 9 am would have been a nice touch.
Review 35:The setting near the river was idyllic, and there was an excellent restaurant nearby with a deck overlooking the river. The staff at the lodge was exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Review 36:AC unit did NOT cool off the room, to small of a unit for a sun facing/big glass door unit.
Review 37:I enjoyed the location, it was nice walking to the river, watching boats go by and lots of friendly people!!!
Review 38:Quite far away from downtown, we did not have much choices for not taking the over price but poor quality breakfast. Internet was absolutely hopeless. Did not understand why they refused to issue a receipt for our payment when checked out and not even a statement !!!!!!
Review 39:We being picked up from the train station and they paid for taxi fee for dropping us to the airport as they were not able to drop us off early in the morning.
Review 40:Wifi could be a little stronger, and it is a little bit on the outskirts of town but it does have a good shuttle
Review 41:Awesome staff, very helpfull and willing to shuttle you anywere and come and pick you up after a quick phone call, take a river view for an awesome aurora experience, ni e dark sky
Review 42:Internet bandwidth frustratingly poor at times.
Review 43:Aurora Borealis wake-up call, great view of it from riverbank. Private cottage on grassy bank of Chena river. Outdoor table and chairs at cottage. Great shuttle service (to train and to airport) Restaurant a short pleasant walk away
Review 44:Nothing!
Review 45:The cottage was private, clean,7 just off a river! The staff friendly & helpful. There were hanging baskets of such BREATHTAKINGLY beautiful flowers EVERYWHERE! Restaurant on site was wonderful! We even experienced a 5.1 earthquake!
Review 46:One needs transportation if wanting to see places in the greater area of Fairbanks.
Review 47:Peaceful location along the Chena River. Clean, comfortable, quiet individual cottages.
Review 48:restaurant was a bit over priced
Review 49:cabins were cute and very clean staff was friendly and helpful, the river was amazing, watching the northern lights by the river was an experience like no other, overall exceptional
Review 50:The only thing I didn't like was the toilet, it was too low, the water level to high, and the seat when raised would not stay up. The only other thing was that it was impossible to pour coffee from the glass pot without it spilling - had to pour it over the sink. Otherwise great place.
Review 51:We liked the price, the location, the quiet, and the good restaurant on the grounds.
Review 52:As a family traveling, I would have liked a microwave and small fridge in the rooms. We had no where to put snack or left overs.
Review 53:The River's Edge was a great place to stay with children. The outdoor patio, the grassy areas and the quiet parking lot made it a perfect choice for busy children. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff was more than willing to help. We'd love to stay again.
Review 54:There is no way that this place is 500sf. it is more like 250-300. We had one of the few "double" cabins and only one half, but I just don't see how the footprint of the single cabins makes up 500sf. This is important if you are traveling with kids, otherwise it is a fair deal, airport close, for a one night stay
Review 55:Clean, near airport, super nice staff
Review 56:The toilet flush was like a rocket sound. But certainly no Big Deal. I never could get the WiFi to work. Weak signal.
Review 57:Grounds were awesome. Gardens and plants, the paths were really nice. Private cottage was pleasant, clean, with all the amenities. Staff was helpful, friendly, and pleasant.
Review 58:Marginal internet Breakfast staff was a couple of high school kids who were not trained or lacked customer service skills. Seemed more content to sit at the table and chat. Several times we ran out of coffee and had to prompt them to bring out more. Would have liked a mini fridge.
Review 59:Clean, quiet, and safe. My location was fantastic with a view of the river. The patio was great for relaxing or people watching. The front desk staff was very fast and friendly. Very knowledgeable of local area and activities. Will come back.
Review 60:I didn't like the way the cottages were cleaned, nor the poor odor inside the rooms. We weren't happy with the variety of breakfast options, nor the availability and price efficiency of local cabs.
Review 61:We really liked the privacy of each of the cottages and their proximity to the river.
Review 62:Only the location in that it was a bit difficult to find. Had a GPS that got us to it. And it is a few miles from downtown but other than that nothing.
Review 63:It was clean and clean again. Comfortable and attractive. So happy we stumbled upon it on your site. We didn't know about it on our last trip or we would have stayed there instead of where we landed. A wonderful resort with very nice accommodations. Loved the individual cabins.
Review 64:I believe our initial reservation was for a single queen bed. My partner was meeting me at the airport and we would spend the night in Fairbanks then head down towards Denali. He wanted to check into the place then go pick me up. I added his name to the reservation at Booking.com. Upon his arrival to check in, he was given a room off in a corner near the restaurant and with awkward parking. The room also had two full size beds. None of this really mattered since it was for one night. I am not the type to feel victimized or outraged but I could not help but think that since we were two men the resort took it upon themselves to give us a room with two beds off the beaten path. The room was nice, the shower good, the TV selection was okay for the location and the WiFi did not work in our corner of the resort.
Review 65:The photos on the website were nice, as was the description of the amenities.
Review 66:The gravy for the biscuits was not good. I'm an old country boy who loves biscuits and gravy. I would not eat it there again. Rest of breakfast buffet was okay. Dinner on the river was fun.
Review 67:We found every place in Fairbanks we planned to go, thanks to our GPS. The only problem was that our trip was only for two days. Our cabin was clean and comfortable.
Review 68:The matress has never been turned, the bed was firm on one side and sunken on the other. The "cabin" did not allow travelers to be self sufficient, but instead provides an on-site restaurant that was unfortunatly not serving when we wanted to eat/drink.
Review 69:Very quiet and a nice location on the river
Review 70:Towels weren't replaces when they were taken from our room. There is no late check out. We booked a garden view and our view was that of the gravel parking lot.
Review 71:When somewhere says Wi-Fi throughout, it should mean it. We were travelling around Alaska and needed Internet access in our room to check in for flights, book future accommodation etc, something we were only able to do in the 'office' and you were limited to 20 mins at a time. Wi-Fi was main reason we booked. We were fobbed off by being told it was a busy time with everyone trying to get on line but situation was the same whatever time of day or night (we tried) we attempted to get online.
Review 72:Helpful staff, reasonably priced, good value breakfasts.
Review 73:WiFi is really weak. No fridge is the room.
Review 74:Quiet location, yet easy to get to city center. Single cabins = no noise from the neighbors :-). Although we had a garden view cabin, the river is only a few steps away. When we come back to Fairbanks, we will stay here again. Resort restaurant is excellent.
Review 75:Stayed for 3 nights and we were never able to get wifi connection in our room. Front desk staff was fine, but though our cottage was spotless, cleaning staff failed to replenish coffee packets and toiletries. One day our key card failed to work and I had to go to front desk to get a new one. Once I got in the room, I found no one had replenished our coffee packets, so I had to go right back to front desk. Also, if you like watching TV, you get 12 or 13 rather snowy channels on an old-style gazillion-pound TV. I know this sounds like a lot of gripes, but these were minor annoyances and were well outweighed by the positive features of this location.
Review 76:All on one level--parked our car within a few feet of our cottage. Very spacious and clean accommodations. Items in gift shop were very reasonably priced for AK.
Review 77:I didn't like the fact that I had requested a handicapped room they didn't provide one. I spent the first night helping my wife use the bath room. When I asked to switch to a handicap room they booked us out of the old room but didn't book us into the new room they promised. When I went back in a 3:00 PM a new shift had to verify us as guests and then assign us the new room. I'm glad some one didn't come in and take the room because the transfer was incomplete. Also, there is crushed rock down the entrance to the room. It was very difficult to push a wheel chair over that. Also, the Alaskan Grill opens and closes at set times. It's as though you have to make your plans around their opening and closing times. The laundry doesn't take new five dollar bills. That is a problem for most people.
Review 78:I liked the staff. They were alert and helpful.
Review 79:No fridge
Review 80:Nice cabin with chairs outside. Glad that it had an aircon as it was very hot while we were there. The shuttle worked very well. Staff were very friendly and helpful especially Jessica
Review 81:There was no wifi and the first night there saw a mouse right at our door.
Review 82:The river so close and that we got in late and it was a easy check in. Also that they didn't hold money on my credit card.
Review 83:The experience was satisfactory but not exceptional. The lobby staff was helpful. Breakfast was ok if you got there early enough. Asked for but was denied a water front cabin even though they seemed to be available.
Review 84:All that you had to offer. The cleanliness of the grounds and rooms. The breakfast were great. Your staff always went the extra mile. I plan on visiting again sometime in April or May.Thank you for a great stay.
Review 85:Very little
Review 86:It was very clean. The rooms were well equipped with baths, showers and tea/ coffee. The location is 5 mins from the airport and many tourist attractions. Restaurant on site is excellent. Food is fabulous.
Review 87:Would have been nice if wi-fi was working.
Review 88:Friendly staff, clean & comfortable rooms & terrace outside each room. Great place to have morning coffee.
Review 89:Breakfast was pricey, bed was on hard side ( my wife thought it was ok), would appreciate a small fridge in room to keep drinks cold.
Review 90:location, cottages,friendly staff.
Review 91:Transport is available from the resort to other sightseeing attractions. The atmosphere is really great and the staff was really helpfull
Review 92:over priced, people smoking everywhere!
Review 93:cottages were quaint
Review 94:I didn't stay long enough
Review 95:It's nice and cozy
Review 96:Just a couple of burned out lightbulbs

Review 110:We really enjoyed the cottage type rooms, the location, and cleanliness.
Review 111:Doubled charged my credit card.
Review 112:Flowers
Review 113:No bad experiences.
Review 114:The quietness because of the individual cabins.
Review 115:Too big and commercial walls so thin you can hear your neighbour and they can hear you.
Review 116:Convenient
Review 117:The location and the friendliness of the staff.
Review 118:Wifi didn't work.
Review 119:Nice and quiet.
Review 120:well maintained property
Review 121:we really love the facility and the employees are wonderful and trust worthy
Review 122:Wifi was not working and staff was rude. There was too much dog poops around the buildings. Had to really watch where you put your feet.
Review 123:Nice flowers
Review 124:No hot water and the bed pillows need to be replaced - they are old and lumpy.
Review 125:Location was perfect for my activities, quiet, nice looking cottages.
Review 126:Internet was awful. Pillows awful. No fridge. TV needs updating.
Review 127:Nice restaurant. Rooms good size. Staff helpful.
