Reviews for Westmark Fairbanks Hotel and Conference Center
Review 1:We spent a few nights there in between trips. We didn't get a chance to do much exploring as we stayed over Christmas when is freezing (it's Alaska after all) and the town shuts down during that time of year. Staff were friendly and helpful and room was lovely.
Review 2:I arrived early for the seminar and was able to get a room around 11 AM which was fine but would have liked one earlier as had a family member with me who wanted to rest. Our flight was at 7 AM to Fairbanks so had to get an early start. I thought the hotel was not very busy this time of year and thought my request was reasonable.
Review 3:Staff in the dining room was friendly, helpful in recommending selections, and very efficient. Food was excellent especially the soups and Sole fish & chips. Had good, fresh ground coffee.
Review 4:The one thing that I definitely did not like was the complimentary breakfast. They only served glazed twisted doughnuts, puff pastries with barely anything stuff inside, oatmeal and cold hard boiled eggs. It was not satisfying at all.
Review 5:I like that the room was very clean and maintained. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was pretty friendly too.
Review 6:The grits at breakfast were aweful. And the pre-peeled hard boiled eggs were plastically.
Review 7:The oatmeal at the breakfast was delicious. I wish was served everyday.
Review 8:The electricity went off and the hotel has no backup generators. My wife just had knee surgery and had to walk down 7 flights of stairs with our luggage. Also, no refunds or accommodations were offered to us at checkout.
Review 9:It was convenient
Review 10:My only complaint is that I have mobility issues and my room could not have been farther from the elevators.
Review 11:My first choice when traveling to Fairbanks. Have stayed here frequently.
Review 12:Room was very nice and very clean, there is everything you need right inside the hotel if you don't want to venture out. Staff was very friendly and helpful
Review 13:Its a conference hotel, so your room will likely be fairly far to get to. Lots of conference guests and tourists makes the restaurant busy with long wait times. Not much to do around the hotel within walking distance. Pricey.
Review 14:Updated building and fairly recent rooms.
Review 15:nothing not to like
Review 16:Excellent location in downtown. We booked through booking.com, according to hotel staff the price and the room description didnt match. Apparently the room description was of a suite but the price reflected an executive room. Notwithstanding, they did put us in a suite for the same price. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable, had a refrigirator and a microwave in the room. Everything was great! we also used their storage services while we flew north for a couple of days.
Review 17:Free internet. We arrived in the middle of the night and the staff were very friendly and helpful. In the morning the tour desk made a few good suggestions on what to do and were very friendly.
Review 18:WiFi bit "clunky" and would drop out.
Review 19:Not only were staff friendly but most accommadating as well. Good shower. Comfy bed. Ideal for overnight stay.
Review 20:There was grime in the bathtub. They don't change the cocking for the seals... they just let it mold. There was a hole in the wall where the doorknob would hit the wall entering the room. There were stains on the furniture. The bed was clean but really stiff. My TV was from 1995 and the quality of the screen was hard to see sometimes because there was a lot of static on each channel. The toilets were stained in the bowl.
Review 21:The bed was clean.
Review 22:The hotel said that Booking.com gave me th incorrect accomdations for the price and did not put me in a delux room with microwave and ref as noted unitll I have unpacked my bags and noticed there was no ref or m w. I went to the dest and they gave me what was on my reservation for the price but I have to move my lugage after already unpacking. Beds need new mattresses
Review 23:Checked into an adjoining room,I could open the door to the other room, so could the other room's occupants into my room. I had to change into a two bed room.
Review 24:More options in dining room. Did not want all you can eat breakfast. Only one person working coffee Starbucks area in peak morning time created long lines
Review 25:Friendly staff. Adequate rooms.
Review 26:We did not appreciate not having a choice of breakfast from an a la carte menu. We roamed the downtown area for a simple eggs and toast breakfast and found one eventually, but quite far. After coming off a cruise, the last thing we wanted was an all you can eat breakfast bar. It was a hassle! Continental breakfast did not even include a piece of cheese, so we felt it was a rip-off if you only wanted a small breakfast. Bread choices were also poor.
Review 27:We enjoyed a wonderful dinner with excellent service.
Review 28:the shower is very bad, there is almost no water coming out
Review 29:Overall the hotel is nice, nothing fancy but then again who would expect that in Fairbanks?! Check In & Check Out were fast, so was the wifi. Also the view from the upper floors is pretty nice.
Review 30:Good comfortable room. No problem finding electrical outlets for phon charging. Convenient location. Free parking. Mailing service available. Staff at the bar was so friendly!
Review 31:The room next to me was extremely noisy, slamming doors, knocking on the adjoining door to my room and a baby cried most of the night. The Business Center was too hot. I could not order off of a menu for Breakfast. I do not like Buffets when I do not east enough to warrent an $18 charge for breakfast or $13 for a cold one! Bananas were so brown I would make banana bread with them, not serve them to guests paying this high price.
Review 32:We asked for information about Denali National Park. We were refused because we were not part of a tour group. Air conditioning is loud.
Review 33:The room was nice. Staff was nice except when requesting info. Love the decor. Nice gift shop
Review 34:The bathroom is too small, Hard to moved . The tub drain is very slow. It's. Not draining well.
Review 35:The location. The front office people are very helpful. The room is very clean & organized.
Review 36:No outdoor patio or sitting area, just the benches at the front where cars , busses and taxis come and go and one bench at the back door with frequent presence if drunken passer by asking if they could "bum a cigarette"!. Almost all hotels offered free continental breakfast but not here. No refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms . Overall I would say unless you are in meetings all day , don't plan to go outside and plan on eating in the overpriced restaurants in the hotel, leave this one alone to the cruise passengers stopping on their way , on their tours.
Review 37:rooms were clean and beds comfortable.
Review 38:The WiFi was un-usable. It took me an hour and a half to get the right room. They made me pull out my laptop in the lobby to show them pictures of the room i rented after they stuck me in a horrible room. It took so long to log into booking.com and load the pictures. I'm so appalled at the lack of customer service I'll never stay here again.
Review 39:Not Much I guess the bed was comfortable.
Review 40:The fireplace in the bar area is non-working which is a complete waste. The fireplace in the lobby goes almost unnoticed because of its location and nothing draws you to it.
Review 41:Location, parking availability and quality of food. Room comfort was good.
Review 42:Problems with hot water supply, Continental breakfast is very poor. Off season dining facility was marginal. Not enough outlets for engine heaters at -40°.
Review 43:Able to have all convention functions in the hotel. Room was fine. Bed was comfortable.
Review 44:A bunch of noisy kids (I think a hockey team)running around outside our room (seemingly unsupervised for almost 2 hours. Also the restaurant was too pricey. Need a cheaper alternative, ie, a cafe/diner.
Review 45:Great front desk support.
Review 46:No problem, you do benefit from having a vehicle.
Review 47:Staff, lounge, atmosphere. Both Westmarks we stayed in during the Alaska trip were keepers. I would return.
Review 48:Since we went to see the Northern Lights this is not the place to stay. The hotel do not have shuttle. Free breakfast was the same all week long.
Review 49:In the City proper. Staff were nice and its clean. I requested to change the sheets the first day and they did.
Review 50:Can't think of a thing!
Review 51:From the outstanding greeting at the lobby, the cheerful staff, any member of West mark were willing to help with any issue that came about.
Review 52:It's NOT that I did not like this...BUT, it would be nice to watch flat screen T.V's in the rooms, and not watch shows off of the old type of T.V's.?
Review 53:I like how secure the building felt. You have to have a room key to be able to open up the elevator doors to get to the rooms. The rooms are very comfortable and the King size bed is a plus. My rooms have always been spotless whenever I stay at this hotel, and if there's ever an issue, the staff takes care of it right away. All in all, I really like staying at this hotel while traveling to Fairbanks.
Review 54:The breakfast left a lot to be desired. We knew it was a continental breakfast but the oatmeal was cold and lumpy, and was the only hot dish offered. Also there didn't seem to be anyone around to ask for assistance
Review 55:the rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the hotel felt safe
Review 56:The noise in the next room, you can hear pretty good through the door thats connected but closed and locked. And also it would have been awesome to Heat up leftover food with a microwave but theres none in the rooms.
Review 57:The cleanliness was a shock... a good shock. The bed was super comfortable. Staff were very polite, and the food at red lantern and the margaritas were worth it.
Review 58:The pillows were was overstuffed and I had trouble sleeping on them. I wish I had said something to see if they had a normal pillow. My bad.
Review 59:The location was great. the value was great. the staff was nice. Room was very clean.
Review 60:Loved the location, walking distance to many attractions. Great options for restaurants both in the hotel and near by. Loved the Thai food at Bahn Thai. The hotel staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Great Hotel!!
Review 61:The room was comfortable and clean. The employees were very pleasant. The breakfast buffet was good, especially the eggs benedict. Plenty of parking, and in downtown Fairbanks that's saying something.
Review 62:no shopping facilities with in a walking distance
Review 63:we arrived one day early and the front staff were excellent in accommodating use, even though it was my mistake on the date of arrival
Review 64:The drain in the tub was slow, so while showering I was standing in an inch or two of water. Also, anytime a toilet flushed somewhere else, the toilet in our room made a gurgling bubble up noise.
Review 65:I likes the efficient and polite service of the receptionists. The room was clean, the bathroom was immaculate, and the shower water actually got hot, which I've noticed it most hotels it doesn't.
Review 66:We got a suite, It was great but it was a little smaller than I was expecting. No pool or hot tub.
Review 67:Freindly Staff, Clean, convenient location, Lots of parking, great lobby, coffee shop and gift shop, secure at night, great restaurant
Review 68:None.
Review 69:We stayed in several locations as we traveled the State of Alaska. Making our reservations in advance for most layovers. The Westmark was by far the best in every category. The rooms were clean and well supplied with everything we needed. The staff was excellent, answering every question and happy to make suggestions. We were so impressed with our accommodations that on our return from the Arctic Circle, we stopped in to see if they had rooms available for another night. This is a very busy Hotel as they run many tours from this facility. The staff runs like a well oiled machine. Even with the lobby full of people getting ready for bus tours, they were able to take care of other guest like ourselves without delay. Very well done Westmark!
Review 70:The bed was old and broken.
