Reviews for Pike's Waterfront Lodge

Review 1:This place is probably a lot better in summer, but everything in and around the lodge was pretty much closed for the winter.Even the breakfast is 'continental only' during the winter. The off-season discount should be greater, as this place is close to nothing (except the airport) and so really doesn't warrant the premium you pay for staying here when everything is closed.

Review 2:Friendly staff, good amenities in a clean room

Review 3:The only thing that we don't like it is that the breakfast was the same for all the 6 days...

Review 4:We were there for our honeymoon, we wan to live the real Alaska experience and the Pike's Waterfront Longe was perfect! 100% recommended

Review 5:Our only complaint would be that even with the heat turned off our room was still very warm.

Review 6:Pikes has a wonderful atmosphere everyone was friendly and helpful. The breakfast bar was wonderful with a great variety of choices. We would definitely go back again.

Review 7:We had a pet so we were in a pet room that smelled like pets. Somewhat understandable. But if it were cleaned with something made specifically for pet smells it might have been better?

Review 8:I liked that they had pet friendly rooms available. Not many others in the area did. Having visited in December the river was frozen so I was able to take my dog for a walk on the river. Which ever staff we passed by had a smile, and the hotel itself had some history to it which was interesting.

Review 9:Housekeeping disappointed me.

Review 10:Very good vibe, atmosphere. Great desk staff. Comfy room. Cookies and ice cream were great, Good coffee in the lobby, 24-hours. Quick airport shuttle. Watched Northern Lights from back patio.

Review 11:The rooms were decorated very nice, the fed was comfortable, nice furniture and there were a good number if plugins to use. I was able to charge my compute and phone and iPad without unplugging lights.

Review 12:Pillows are way to fat for me and the shower they could use bowed out rods for shower curtains instead of straight ones would give you more room in the shower and then the curtain wouldn't stick to you when taking a shower

Review 13:Nice quiet rooms clean and comfy

Review 14:I had 2 rooms for 5 days. I had asked for a late checkout since our flight did not leave until 6:00 p.m. The hotel was not full. They spoke with the "housekeeper", she allowed me to keep "one room" until noon. I have never visited a place where the housekeeper made decisions regarding late check outs. I am a senior citizen and the couple in my other room were both in their late 80's. I just felt being we had stayed there for 5 days...a 2:00 checkout on a Monday is not an unreasonable request. Obviously, I was wrong.

Review 15:Breakfast was fantastic. Location was great. Nice "lodge" feeling.

Review 16:Place needs a bit remodeling. Room smelt a bit like cig smoke.

Review 17:Great location and service. Shuttle service to anywhere great. Stay there before , would stay Again.

Review 18:We were in one of the cottages which had a little kitchenette with sink, microwave and fridge. Great except there were no plates, mugs apart from paper cups and no cutlery. Just seemed a waste of space. Also wifi did not reach the room.

Review 19:Pikes is very close to the airport and right on the Cena River. Gorgeous setting. It also has laundry facilities and free wifi although this didn't reach our room which was one of the cottages. Lovely walk to the Riverboat Cruise which I urge everyone to do. The helpful receptionist suggested where to hire a car which we were able to use to drive to Cena Hot Springs. Went out a couple of nights to try to see the Aurora but it was too cloudy. Still great fun being out in the dark with other would-be watchers.

Review 20:The entire building was too warm in general, plus I had to sleep with the A/C during my Sept visit. The bed's were just a bit too hard for my liking, not all that comfortable.

Review 21:Location was great! Loved the rustic feel and look of the facilities.

Review 22:We had made a mistake in booking our trip and needed an extra night. The staff was very good about looking for a way to accommodate our extra night. They put us in one of their cabins - and, WOW!, we wished we could stay for a week!

Review 23:Check-in area is very small, crowded, short staffed, disorganized. Hall carpets stained and not vacuumed. Noisy; guests in hallways sounded like they were in your room. Did not open windows for fresh air due to highway noise. Obviously geared for tours and tourists and at end of season with tired staff. Many Alaska hotels offer discounted rates to state residents at the end of the tourist season, so first called the hotel directly. The resident rate was significantly more than the Booking.com rate. Booking.com has undoubtedly been the best site for us to use whether traveling in the US or overseas!

Review 24:Alaska residents traveling to Fairbanks for both business and pleasure. The location was great; easy access to highway if traveling by car or plane. The hotel's website as well as other hotel sites showed a room rate $70+ over the Booking.com rate so Booking.com is a great bargain. Free Wifi. Lots of parking. Restaurant nearby with dining deck at river's edge. Alaskan hunting and fishing trophies on walls will be interesting to travelers from outside Alaska. Large room. Coffee in room. Balcony was nice, but not used since it faced the noisy highway vs. river. Riverside rooms have a nice view, unfortunately, requested river view room in advance, but not given one. Nonsmoking rooms. Shopping and other restaurants nearby. Came to Fairbanks for business meeting and to check out hotel for use for a large group later this fall (about 15 people); may have group stay here mainly due to the convenient location.

Review 25:Room small and warm even with air on. No breakfast with room because I booked through some one else. Would not accomodate even one hour of late check out.

Review 26:Nice decor.

Review 27:Decor was a little dated. White duvets would be so much more appealing than those bedspreads. Very minor detail though.

Review 28:Really great staff, food and location.

Review 29:It took us more than an hour to check in. We booked through Booking.com and they did not have our reservations. Going back n forth with Booking.com and getting some kind of fax to let us check in was a bad experience. Chaos at their riverside restaurant. Nobody to seat you and people chasing tables like crazy which were all full.

Review 30:Good location, free shuttle to nearby places.

Review 31:I like to use the stairs when possible. The door at ground level was blocked with a baggage cart. When I forced open it kind of banged around a bit. The doorman or greeter or whoever he was gave me a look like what are you doing? What if there had beern a fire?

Review 32:I espessially liked the check in girl. I think her name was Chris

Review 33:The staff who checked us in who couldn't find our reservation, gave us a room with no balcony, did not tell/give us the tokens to free ice-creams when she did to a male guest just before us...

Review 34:The balcony of the room we requested (as not all rooms have one), the computer, printer provided in the common area, the daily free evening ice-creams, the cookies and iced water provided at reception plus close proximity to the Chena River and airport.

Review 35:We were unable to check-in early when we came over from the airport. The clerk said "Well you are 5 hours early". I asked for the third floor and she said it was under construction, but we know others were given the floor. The steam room smelled musty and was not inviting. The security of the hotel was lacking. Side door does not need a key card, nor does the fitness center.

Review 36:I liked that the restaurant was near by, the free ice cream and cookies was a nice touch. The beds were comfortable.

Review 37:No significant issues. Possibly the only thing was being outside of the workout room on the 3rd floor which could be a bit noisy.

Review 38:Great Alaskan Hospitality. Weather turned to above zero for my short visit. The hotel, it's staff and facilities in general are all very accomodating and enjoyable. Most comfortable hotel in Fairbanks that feels like a winter lodge in the wide open lobby.

Review 39:The pillows and mattress. Neither proved comfortable.

Review 40:The art work, the ice cream, the restraint and service. The balcony view and the room temperature was good. The TV was very adequate as well as the size of the room.

Review 41:The only place nearby is their own unattached restaurant. It isn't bad but it doesn't allow for any options unless you have a vehicle. They charge non-Alaska residents a $10 surcharge per night. Wi-fi did not work in my room at all, I had to sit in the lobby to be connected.

Review 42:The difficulty of connecting from the airport thru the phone set up. Thanks to cell phone, saved the day!

Review 43:Very efficient and friendly staff, easy check in and check out,and the shuttle service was greatly appreciated.

Review 44:The computer system lost my reservation but they quickly found me a room and got me checked in.

Review 45:Pet friendly rooms, helpful staff and of course, love the ice cream!

Review 46:Breakfast was not free in summer. ($9 or $14 !) Seemed to cater to the cruise industry and tour operators more than individuals. Our room was on the parking lot side of the building, and, lacking any common area or deck space that could be shared by all guests on the river side, the scenic location was lost to us.

Review 47:Quality furnishings. Quiet. Easy access to highway. Queen beds. Fridge and microwave (which we used because breakfast was so expensive.)

Review 48:Far from being walking distance to any good restaurants. The maid (Lisa) knocked on the door even when our Do Not Disturb sign was out. Sound insulation is not good, at least not in the rooms facing the parking lot. There was a lot of loud hallway noise as well & that would have been regardless of the side. Curtains don't block out light at night. The beds were not great. They were super shaky so when one person moved the other was disturbed. The maids don't follow the water conservation plan, even when you hang your towels, they take them & give you new ones.

Review 49:Close to the airport Cute theme Nice to have the river out back. Everyone except the guy who checked us in was very friendly, he was possibly just too distracted to be very friendly. The air conditioning worked well. They have a water conservation plan.

Review 50:Did not live up tto my expectations. .expected more waterfront seating to sit and relax. Pikes landing restaurant was highly recommend. But I was really very unimpressed with both the service and quality of the food.

Review 51:The breakfast buffet for $15 per person was awful. Plates were not warm, food was cold, many items ran out repeatedly and replenished very slowly. Only two servers working on a busy weekend morning, plus a disgruntled staffer at the carving station. Skip this torture!

Review 52:Location on the water, great decor, interesting grounds with Alaskan history and culture. Dinner at the restaurant next door was great on the deck.

Review 53:None

Review 54:Staff were polite & helpful.

Review 55:Hard time getting a good room second option not any better

Review 56:I love the whole experience.

Review 57:None.

Review 58:Staff will go out of their way to help.

Review 59:No eggs for breakfast

Review 60:Ice cream

Review 71:Very expensive

Review 72:Excellent staff Great owner Atmosphere

Review 73:Staff, facility and location were all wonderful.

Review 74:No continental breakfast included during summer season

Review 75:Helpful,friendly staff!

Review 76:Standard price is overpriced

Review 77:Good special price by Booking.com Locations Friendly staff

Review 78:No one really knew what to do in Fairbanks.

Review 79:The hotel is nice and has a great location on the river with a good restaurant next door.

Review 80:No coffee in lobby, no breakfast included. Room very small

Review 81:Room we finally got was clean

Review 82:WiFI not very good.

Review 83:Comfort and cleanliness.

Review 84:Location close to airport

Review 85:Pikes Landing deck area for eating and drinking was very nice

Review 86:Bathroom to small for the amount of frilly decoration on shower curtain

Review 87:Its unique

Review 88:The bed was way too soft and had too much spring.

Review 89:The atmosphere of hotel was rustic Alaskan.

Review 90:Very nice place & staff! Great food!

Review 91:Steam room was great.

Review 92:Room change rate.

Review 93:Breakfast

Review 94:Really slow wifi.

Review 95:Very nice people. Nice breakfast. Good coffee.

Review 96:Cozy, comfortable, convenient.

Review 97:Location

Review 98:Nothing special

Review 99:All the hotel

Review 100:Great location and the staff was professional and very friendly I loved the decor of the place and would definitely come back

Review 101:The dog pictures on the bedroom walls.

Review 102:The comfort and cleanliness of the rooms. The rock throwing and outdoor seating was quaint and cute.

Review 103:Found toe nail clippings stuck in the carpet and hair in the bath tub.

Review 104:Bathroom was not clean.

Review 105:A little far out of the main town

Review 106:Availability of parking

Review 107:There is no food service after 10pm.

Review 108:This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at in Alaska. I loves every bit of it.

Review 109:bed

Review 110:Clean and freindly

Review 111:it was comfortable setting. loved the decor. the breakfast was excellent

Review 112:The decor was a little outdated. Would have liked a better variety for breakfast.

Review 113:It was very nice. Beautiful view of the river. Great value! Free cookies and ice cream were also a plus.

Review 114:No negatives at all!

Review 115:The free breakfast bar Is exceptional....homemade waffles, fresh fruit, Granola Oatmeal...wonderful! Rooms are very cozy and richly decorated....pleasant staff!

Review 116:Booked a month in advance and requested a room facing river on 2nd or 3rd floor. Staff didn't read my request for a room so after front desk did some maneuvering, was able to change my room to one facing river but still on 1st floor. Our room was noisy. Ran out of coffee in breakfast bar before 8:00am.

Review 117:Beautiful setting even in winter. Easy to find, just off the highway. Beautiful rooms, good mattress. Clean facility. Ample parking. Free breakfast.

Review 118:Only thing we didn't like was there was no option to have a room with king bed (which we did have last year). We had a room with 2 queen beds, but there is less room to move about and to relax in this room.

Review 119:We loved the ambience and attention to detail. Loved the breakfast options. Coffee is very good!

Review 120:All the animals staring at me in the lobby were a bit disconcerting, but I get it, it's Alaska. It would be nice to have gluten-free bread/bagel/muffin options at breakfast.

Review 121:I liked the friendliness and "can do" attitude of the staff. The room was very clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of the frozen river. The shop was open all the time.

Review 122:Shuttle driver talked on phone the whole trip and never even acknowledge me. Profanity is not acceptable. Sad! Wireless in 131 was not working for hours. I could get it in the lobby though.

Review 123:Breakfast. Shuttle service was prompt.

Review 124:Tried to turn up the heat, but couldn't. The room was a little cool but it was fine after I put on a sweater. Great for sleeping.

Review 125:The room was clean, and I had shampoo and soap in the bathroom. The bed was perfect. The TV worked fine with plenty of channels. The breakfast was wonderful--too much food.

Review 126:Need a few more brochures of local museums and points of interest to visit in Fairbanks. Most were out of town options and we had no transportation to utilize them.

Review 127:Drivers of vans were wonderful and extremely helpful. They were our only source of transportation. Breakfast was wonderful each and every day---ice cream in the evening was also truly appreciated. Everyone went out of their way to be helpful. Much appreciated.
