Reviews for Bouchard Restaurant & Inn

Review 1:Bars with night life are very near. The noise is pretty loud if you are not a younger person. It's an old beautiful inn so you hear everything on the street.

Review 2:The location can not be beat! Near shopping, the wharf and restaurants.

Review 3:It was quite noisy and we were there during a quiet time. The Irish Bar downstairs could get noisy in the summer I could imagine. Might only affect the Rose Room though. Not sure.

Review 4:We were in the Rose Room which was so lovely. Beautiful shutters looking out to the harbour and the bed was lovely. The room was very spacious with a couch and mini fridge. It had everything we needed. The little breakfast delivery in the morning was perfect.

Review 5:Towels and room smelled a little musty, perhaps due to less turnover in the off season. Parking is limited and tight if you have an SUV. Staff of the restaurant was a little snooty, we couldn't get a reservation there and when leaving our room to go eat elsewhere two people near the restaurant door asked if we needed something and where we were going, like we didn't belong there. It was insulting.

Review 6:This inn had a great location and was quaint and charming. Breakfast was served at 8 to the room and was delicious.

Review 7:I have stayed at other B & B's and they had a continental breakfast....not just a pastry and parfait in a bag. Expensive and not quite the greatest location.

Review 8:I like that the room was clean and quiet.

Review 9:Heating unit was loud, but it got the room toasty.

Review 10:Clean modern room at a reasonable rate. Coffee, tea and juice provided in room with morning pastry delivered to your door. Amazing french restaurant within the Inn.

Review 11:Night time noise if you have a room on the street side of the hotel. Worst aspect is the staff who do not want to entertain you except at check in. On check out we could not even find anybody during the final 30 minutes before check out time. We wanted to leave our car there until the following check in time but it was clear this was not welcome and there was nobody to even discuss it with. This lack of flexibility annoyed us. Our impression is that they are trading on their reputation rather than the reality of the situation.

Review 12:Rooms are spacious and facilities in the room are good with a really good Keurig coffee maker, fridge and TV with good choice of channels. Breakfast, served in the room, is unique with quality pastries and yoghurt. At first this idea of breakfast seemed a little strange but it worked out well and we enjoyed it. Location is mixed blessing - right in the main street but our room was over the bar next door and music did not stop until 1 am. People are making noise outside until 2:30 even in November. If you rom is on the back it is a whole different story as our friends were very happy there.

Review 13:The noise from the room above woke us up in the morning. Not sure if that can be helped because it is an old building. Maybe more rugs would absorb the sound?

Review 14:Fresh breakfast was a really nice touch & even better that it was brought right to our door. The pastries were delicious. It was a very nice touch!

Review 15:The apartment was exactly as pictured online. It was spacious and very comfortable for four people and had 2 bathrooms! A+ Booking was easy and especially liked the 2 week cancellation free of charge option. Would use Booking.Com again.

Review 16:I paid an extra $25 because I had my niece with me. I was told it was for the "continental breakfast " which consisted of an apple turnover with cream. We received three of them but no one thought to give us an extra coffee cup !!! Or silverware.

Review 17:The staff /concierge were pleasant The room was great and having a refrigerator and keurug coffee maker was lovely

Review 18:We absolutely loved this place! Had a long day traveling with a one year old, & the staff was so welcoming & helpful. It was so nice to walk into such a clean, comfortable room. Plenty of space for a crib too! The breakfast was delightful. Homemade Apple turnovers & yogurt with fruit. Couldn't get much better! We will be back!

Review 19:Very easy walking distance to restaurants. Parking including. You definitely don't want to drive around Newport. Harbor House has its own entrance. Great room with amenities. Continental breakfast delivered to room was fantastic. Staff was very friendly, even called earlier in the day to find out what time we would be checking in.

Review 20:Nothing bad to say, we had a wonderful time there

Review 21:They were super nice and had the best services. the hot pastries and yogurt in the morning were a wonderful start to the day

Review 22:We loved this quaint little inn. It was in a perfect spot in Newport and the staff was friendly and helpful. The in-room breakfast was another bonus. Highly recommend.

Review 23:Fantastic little hotel with the most charming decor. Freshly baked croissants brought to your room in the morning. Perfect location in the heart of the town.

Review 24:Although the rooms and restaurants are lovely, this Inn is located directly in front of Obriens pub and @ the Dock bar. Music and outdoor partying goes on until closing between 1-2am

Review 25:Had an issue with the circuit breaker.

Review 26:The staff (Carmen) was outstanding. Very helpful on directions and restaurants. Had our pastries & yogurt delivered the night before as we were leaving early. Parking was convenient. MidTown Oyster Company great lobster tails. (Thanks Carmen).

Review 27:Usual easy access to ice etc. is B and B style. It is not just down the hall in a machine. Staff when present was exceptional.

Review 28:comfort and a fresh breakfast. Understand that it is a few blocks out of the main town area. Not necessarily good or bad. Just depends on what you are expecting.

Review 29:Nothing...It was all wonderful!

Review 30:The staff was amazing and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. Somepeople have complained about the noise from the next door pub in otherreviews I have read, but it was barely noticeable. The location and theprice for a B&B like this in Newport can't be beat.

Review 31:Professional, personable and friendly staff. Sarah's wonderful attention to our needs. Excellent food and nice accommodations. Breakfast basket... sweet! Can't wait to return next year or sooner.

Review 32:When we arrived I had booked a deluxe king room. The room given to us was accessed thru the parking lot, was very tight space wise and only had one window that looked out onto parking lot. I found a potato chip amongst room magazines and the bathroom door was covered with black fingerprints. It was far less than we expected. We ended up switching to the king suite on the second floor just above which was twice the size, had views of the water and very nicely appointed.

Review 33:It was at the quieter end of Thames where there are fewer tourists and some interesting restaurants. It was easy to bike from this location to beach areas

Review 34:The room needed bedside tables and lamps with light adequate to read by. It is next to a rather busy bar/restaurant. Although we seemed sheilded from the noise in our room. However, if you want to stay in town, The Bouchard Inn was very good.

Review 35:The Inn was lovely, the staff was responsive, friendly and courteous. They serve a breakfast of a freshly made pastry with yogurt and fresh fruit daily to the room, and have fresh coffee available in the room with half and half, milk, water and orange juice. It was very clean, and they have a parking lot. (Anyone visiting the center of Newport understands the value of convenient parking.) We did not get to try the restaurant, but it looked very good and seemed crowded.

Review 36:It was expensive but then it was August in Newport.

Review 37:The room was lovely and the bed very comfortable. The morning breakfast left on the door knob was yummy! Yogurt, fruit and delicious pastries. There was a fridge in the room with milk and orange juice and a very good coffee machine. Location was excellent....right in the heart of newport.

Review 38:Room could have been cleaner, noticeable dust , dirty hand marks on doors, bath amenities were sparse. Back entrance to the property was not locked. For the price I expected more attention to detail.

Review 39:Breakfast delivered to room was great, delicious pastries were a treat. Room was quiet. Dinner at the restaurant was very good.

Review 40:Guest soap was way too tiny; toilet paper was too cheap and thin.

Review 41:The convenient location; excellent breakfast, outstanding food at dinner and the helpful staff.

Review 42:No

Review 43:Lovely comfy king size bed with window shutters, a refridgerator and great location. It has a lovely French restaurant and we really enjoyed the pastry and yoghurt with fresh berries breakfast delivered to our room.Location wad a +++

Review 44:My fiancé and I had a wonderful stay. The room was clean and very unique. Water bottles and orange juice were restocked in the mini fridge every day, a keurig with coffee and tea was in the room. Each morning we received pastries and parfaits from the kitchen at our door (I am gluten free and the gluten free pastries were amazing and freshly cooked). The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We ate at the Inn's restaurant our last night and it was arguably the best meal we have ever had. We also would stop by the bar outside of the Inn for wine and dessert each night before going upstairs- all of which was excellent. Perfect place to get away, great experience, will definitely be going back next year.

Review 45:The only downside is that the restaurant doesn't accept Kids under 7 years old which we totally understand, but it was a pity, because we really wanted to try the food..

Review 46:Location was great, close to everything Newport has to offer. Friendly staff, one of the best breakfasts we had in a hotel!!! Good sized room, clean and cosy, would definitely recommend!

Review 47:Found it a bit expense for what it was and breakfast didn't quite meet some of the rave reviews on here - it's a pastry and yoghurt ...

Review 48:Great location and with free parking

Review 49:Very welcoming staff, atmosphere and fresh baked pastries delivered to our door in the morning were fabulous. We also enjoyed the outdoor dining experience with delectable steak over ratatouille served with truffle dipped frites...outstanding!

Review 50:The only thing that was somewhat challenging was parking, but no matter how limited, we always found a space.

Review 51:My husband and I chose Bouchard's to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary! The room was quaint and the service, cleanliness and location were all high scale! The hot breakfast pastries delivered each morning were delicious and allowed my husband and I to dine intimately in our room. I have been raving about Bouchard's since we left! We will definately stay there again!

Review 52:Extremely noisy room. Room was over restaurant. Perhaps other rooms are quieter but anyone staying in this room will be bombarded with noise until midnight and then beginning again around 6am. Told the owners but nothing really could be done. Also room wasn't cleaned one day and we were told it was at our request which wasn't true. Owner was unaccommodating and unapologetic.

Review 53:Nice room layout, comfortable beds, serviceable bathroom. Nice on-site restaurants. Good in-town location.

Review 54:Beautiful inn and close to town and shops. Staff were very accommodating with a 10 month old and a later arrival! Food was excellent and lovely hospitality.

Review 55:The inn had sort of a musty smell in the halls and the bathroom shower was extremely moldy. The mold was on shower walls and the caulk in the shower was covered in mold.

Review 56:I never saw anyone who worked there but the manager contacted me ahead of time to find out my needs and to tell me about the check in procedure. When I arrived she has put a map on my bed with my interests marked as well as other places she thought we might like.

Review 57:Walking in back door by kitchen was dirty & smelled! Friday night was so loud we couldn't sleep until the after the late night bars closed & the partiers went home.

Review 58:The rooms are decorated to feel like home and not a hotel room, they are super cosy, clean and comfortable. Very quiet while on the main street. Super nice staff.

Review 59:The rooms look a little worn and could be fixed up. Although the sweetpastry "breakfast" is outstanding for what it is, we wouldprefer a cooked breakfast.

Review 60:What is most outstanding about the inn is the restaurant. The food isreal classic French, which is very difficult to find anywhere in the usor France.

Review 61:Really good coffee available in the bedroom and the freshest croissant and yoghurt delivered to your room every morning. Beautifully decorated and very central.

Review 62:Pillows of the bedroom set weren't the greatest, woke up with a sore neck.

Review 63:Great room with really nice on suite bath. Amazing restaurant choices. Location is perfect.

Review 64:When the young lady at check in told us all about the Inn and the area, she went over the room and our continental breakfast. We said we'd pass, thinking it was a Yoplait yogurt and stale croissant. She encouraged us to try it and we did. It was the MOST delicious parfait we've ever had, with a fresh made pastry (different every day!) that was worth dreaming about. My only complaint was I couldn't buy more to take home!! Breakfast will never be the same...

Review 65:room was not made up until 3pm. we did not notice the "please make up room" sign

Review 66:location was perfect, restaurant superb, room comfortable good value

Review 67:Room was not made by 3:00 second day, had to ask for towels etc. No drawers to put clothes and no rack to put a suitcase on, had to use the top of the furniture.

Review 68:Location, bed and breakfast

Review 69:What's not to like?!

Review 70:Absolutely perfect. Location was ideal. Complimentary drinks in the refrigerator as well as a keurig with coffee and tea. Room was adorable and very clean. Complimentary breakfast brought to our room was delicious and adorable! We WILL be back and I have been recommending to everyone!

Review 71:room was a little pricey but think it was more due to jazzfest weekend and the timing of the reservation than anything

Review 72:location was on thames street which was perfect room was quiet, couldn't hear any street noise breakfast pastries served every morning were really good, plenty of coffee in the room free parking was available right near our room, which was super convenient didn't eat at the restaurant, but would hear it's one of the best

Review 73:This bed and breakfast was far from the coziness and warm hospitality that you receive at other establishments. The breakfast was a pastry and yogurt served in a bag and delivered to your door. We've been to many B&Bs and this was a first! Generally there is a hot pot of coffee and a buffet of muffins, bagels, pastries and cereals at the very least. Many times even a cook to order meal, with culinary pride. While the location was good, for just a few minutes longer walk you could enjoy a cozier, and more hospitable experience for less money.

Review 74:Bed was comfortable. There was a bath tub, and the location was good.

Review 75:The room was very dusty and the floors needed a better vacume. The towels and sheets had yellow stains.

Review 76:Breakfast was amazing!!! Staff were wonderful!! Location was ideal!!

Review 77:Carmenand the gentleman who was the owner were Estrella courteous and most helpful as they carried our luggage up to and down from our room as my knees do not permit me to do tha,t!

Review 78:Inn owner was quite rude at check-in. Also, the the room we were staying in (Room 5) had zero privacy and the shudders were broken so ppl could see right onto our room/bed!

Review 79:Breakfast (pastry/yogurt) was tasty. At these prices, would have expected a hot meal though. On-site parking was useful. Location was good too.

Review 80:Towels and linens were dirty. The bathroom floor was embedded with long-term dirt.

Review 81:Great location with a nice view of Newport Harbor. The affiliated restaurant was wonderful.

Review 82:The hotel is right in the heart of the Newport nightlife. There are two great restaurants to choose from. And the facilities were bright and clean! We would stay here again.

Review 83:Excellent stay, highly recommended. M and Mme Bouchard are excellent hosts, and they took good care of many details to make us feel welcomed. They called to make sure we knew how to get there, provided advice and of course we were presented with home made delicious pastries just outside our door to start the day in Newport on the right note. You even get their cel phone in case there is an emergency. Rooms are big, decorated with taste, and have fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.

Review 84:I really enjoyed the location. My boyfriend and I were passing by for one night so we wanted to get everything we could in! Located right on Thames street this beautiful Inn was perfect to sightsee downtown Newport by foot. The room had charming decor and was very clean with a huge bed. Parking was right in the back and easily accessible. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast in the morning was absolutely delicious!

Review 85:Wish there was a place to sit outside of the hotel for guests.

Review 86:Room was nice and clean. Special touch was breakfast delivered every morning (parfait and pastry)--delicious. Keurig machine made coffee easy in the morning.

Review 87:The room's shutters were difficult to close and the room is connected to another.

Review 88:We had a wonderful time during our stay in Newport, the place was in a fantastic location in downtown. The place was clean and we got a free breakfast every morning. I would certainly go back.

Review 89:Very noisy AC unit. Drapes in addition to blinds would be helpful to completely darken the room.

Review 90:Location is great, accessibility to room is great, quiet for downtown location, room was very nice.

Review 91:ROOM WAS DARK, NO READING LAMPS NEAR BED. NOISY AT NIGHT, ASK FOR A ROOM IN BACK. EXPENSIVE.

Review 92:BREAKFAST WAS LIGHT BUT REALLY TASTY OWNER CARRIED OUR BAGS UPSTAIRS HOTEL WAS WELL LOCATED.

Review 93:Was fine for us, but some may not like being close to restaurants that you can hear till 11 or so. Didn't bother us at all, but if you must have absolute quiet by 9 or 10 Bouchard may not be for you.

Review 94:Couldn't have been better. Nice room, linens, staff, everything.

Review 95:Two minor things. The alarm clock went off both mornings at 7a. I don't know how it did the 2nd morning since I had unplugged it and when the shower initially came on, rusty water came out but it was only for a second.

Review 96:The room was beautiful; we loved the location. Ate at Sarah's bar and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was superb and the tiny space made you feel lucky to have a spot.

Review 97:The location is perfect--at the MUCH quieter end of Thames St. The staff, led by Carmen, is gracious and caring. Truly comfortable, elegant simplicity.

Review 98:We loved everything about it - location, comfort and cleanliness of room & the overall atmosphere - all exactly what we expect when traveling to Newport!

Review 99:Beautiful, comfortable and clean room as well as a wonderful meal at The Revolving Door Restaurant and warm homemade croissants and yogurt at our door for breakfast! Will definitely stay there again!

Review 100:The only negative was that our Kuerig didn't work, but they brought us our hot drink requests to replace. And, we were impressed to have a Kuerig!

Review 101:Staff was extremely helpful and friendly upon arrival and made excellent suggestions for activities and dining. Location was within walking distance to shops, restaurants and mansions! Room was "roomy" and very clean - and pastries in the morning were fresh, hot and VERY tasty! We would definitely recommend and stay again!

Review 102:Location of the B&B is in a very loud environment of bars and clubs. We did need to use ear plugs to fall asleep because parties were going on until 1 or 2 in the morning.

Review 103:The room we had was beautiful! Very clean room and bathroom! Bed was very comfortable! We loved having breakfast delivered to door every morning! Plenty coffee available in the room! The restaurant has unbelivable good food! We recommend dinner reservations there!

Review 104:the room was in a separate house from main, the outside needs lots of work and it felt like staying in a back alley, we would not book again, sorry.. ):

Review 105:The young lady who took us to our room and talk to us about the town was very nice and informative, the room was done well for an old bldg., was clean, painted and bathroom was modern.

Review 106:warm, friendly, helpful staff. absolutely delicious pastry and breakfast. unbeatable location on thames st. convenient, safe, personal service. took my parents here for a short vacation and they absolutely loved it - thanks to our lovely stay at Bouchard inn!

Review 107:Our foursome of girls absolutely loved this place! The set up was just perfect for all four of us to shower and get ready to get out the door each morning before going to tour the nearby mansions. We loved everything about The Bouchard, but must say that the French pastries and fruit yogurt delivered to our room each morning accompanied with a cup of coffee from the Keurig provided a lovely start to the day. The stairs were no trouble with luggage as the owner himself carried each piece to our room for us and back again to our car when we left. Thames Street was a flurry of fun and interest!

Review 108:After we had checked out, we used the restaurant bathroom. Met some type of staff or maybe the male owner (?), who didn't know us, and he seemed to wonder why we were wandering through the restaurant uninvited! Nary a smile - but I was still allowed to avail my self of the facilities!

Review 109:Warm and friendly staff, delicious continental breakfast. The room was clean, bright and inviting. Bed was very comfy! Had dinner at the restaurant run by the innkeepers and it was scrumptious! BE SURE TO TRY THE GRAND MARNIER SOUFFLE FOR DESSERT!

Review 110:The room was very clean, and comfortable. The pastry delivered in the morning was still hot. Everybody treated you well. Took the Mixology 101 class at the Revolving Door, a must do if you are staying on the property.

Review 111:While the location was great (about a 10-minute walk from the heart of Newport (wharves, shops, etc.) and the inn was a mere block from the water, there are no rooms with water views

Review 112:The attached restaurant run by owner Albert Bouchard served the best meal of our lives - absolutely 4-star! Also, the continental breakfast left at our door each morning consisted of scrumptious homemade pastries and yogurt parfait.

Review 113:The streets are busy on weekend nights do if you're a light sleeper, you may have trouble sleeping.

Review 114:The room was clean and comfortable. I liked the keurig coffee machine and the stocked fridge. The breakfast of pastries and yougart was something to look forward to.

Review 115:...But one of the primary hotel functions is providing a place to sleep. And at least in our room, number 15, sleep was quite challenging given the noise level on the street and the apparent thinness of the walls. We could hear EVERYTHING, from chatter to the music bumping downstairs, well past 1 a.m. The house is also very creaky, and we heard all of that, too.

Review 116:There was lots to like about Bouchard: Large rooms, great restaurants, a comfortable bed, a great location. The breakfast every morning and parking is icing on the cake.

Review 117:The bed was hard and the comforter was much more appropriate for the winter.

Review 118:The staff was friendly. Pastries and yogurt parfaits were left at our door every morning and were delicious. The restaurant was excellent.

Review 119:Access to the room could be troublesome if carrying heavy luggage.

Review 120:The staff was helpful and friendly. The room was spacious, nicely decorated and well equipped. Wifi and parking were readily available and the location, unbeatable. The restaurant was wonderful. Reservations are mandatory.

Review 121:Our room overlooked the bar next door and Saturday night was very noisy until 1am. If we hadn't been tired we might have joined the party.

Review 122:We were made very welcome by Sara and her staff and had great meals at the Bouchard and Revolving Door (next door) and the individual breakfast was lovely. Really enjoyed our short trip to Newport with the added bonus of seeing the Volvo Ocean Race.

Review 123:Street noise in the evening but this should be expected being downtown and in the middle of all the action.

Review 124:quality of the accommodations and the location as well as the food

Review 125:the new room that we stayed in needs work. seems like staying in a relative's guest room. except for the pastries. those are unbeatable!

Review 126:this is clearly a great establishment. but, the carriage house space that we stayed in is new and it is obviously new. the breakfast was AMAZING! The location was great.
