Reviews for Royal River Kwai Resort and Spa

Review 1:You need to get transport into town you can't walk

Review 2:Pool and spa are incredible - in lush garden overlooking the river Staff are really attentive and helpful Restaurant is very romantic and very reasonable prices

Review 3:We tried to book a massage and the attendants didn't speak English, was very hard to communicate and at the end they told us they didn't have space for most of the ones we wanted, we asked when they will be available and they just didn't understand.

Review 4:The installations were very nice, the hotel has an amazing view to the river.

Review 5:Nicely located at the river at a nice and quiet place but a bit far outside the town centre. But that is only to state a negative because it's a very good place!

Review 6:Very nice resort! Beautifully set up, good hygiene, friendly staff, good food and high on comfort. A very good value for money.

Review 7:the room hat ants every night crawling through bathroom and beds :(, water pressure was low and we had slow and cumbersome internet connection, if that changes, it would be a perfect hotel!

Review 8:the location and the garden/pool were excellent!! the stuff ist super friendly, I'll stay there again

Review 9:WELL THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL REALLY STUNNING LOCATION HOTEL IS REALLY CHILLED AND AT PIECE LOVED IT BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE STAFF FOR THERE WARM WELCOME

Review 10:Soundproofing between rooms could be better.

Review 11:Beautiful green well maintained garden around the swimming pool and covered breakfast-area. Swimmingpool and evening restaurant are at the riverfront. Friendly and quick service in the breakfast restaurant, by the swimming pool and restaurant at the riverfront in the evening. Unexpected high quality of food in the restaurant in the evening at very reasonable prices. Secure parking area.

Review 12:A bit far from the tourist attractions. No pressure in the shower.

Review 13:Wonderful place to relax. Excellent cuisine.Luxurious facilities at a fraction of what it would cost in America or Europe.

Review 14:Apart from a cockerel calling in the small hours from residence next door it was a very quiet resort

Review 15:I liked that tranquil location and the whole set up of hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was cleaned everyday! At breakfast there was a huge selection and lunch/evening meals although a little more expensive than in town was great!! The grounds and gardens were immaculate too!

Review 16:Somewhat difficult wifi, but non important issue :)

Review 17:Perfect oasis in Kanchanaburi, friendly staff, nice pool aerea, extremely good dinner! Really reccomend this place

Review 18:I like every thing here so well maange with vaviety of breakfast , gorgeous swimming pool and view, rooms was tidy and clean, quiet place with manner staff. Located in a good place and price is reasonable!! We will definitly come back and recommend to anyone who want to visit Kanjanaburi. The best of all thing is this place doesn't have Chinese tour at all :)

Review 19:little away from places of interest. do not take the boat , which is only a rip off.

Review 20:staff were very courteous. room not overlooking the river, just a little walk you are there. one way transport to kwai bridge helpful, they can make it bothways complimentary.

Review 21:There is no need to change sheets everyday. Would like something to say not needed.

Review 22:I loved the pool and the size of the room. Breakfast was good quality. The onsite spa and ease of booking a day trip

Review 23:Front office staff could be more helpful! They need more trainng of customer service and maybe English speaking skill ! I asked Wifi code though "0" with guest service and she was not able to tell me te right code , she said " F for buffalo?" Buffalo is B and F should be Fine or Fish something.... That was funny!

Review 24:Environment is great ! The F&B staff were really helpful and resonable price at restaurant!

Review 25:The facilities are a bit tired. Only one English language TV channel (a movie). The breakfast buffet is quite extensive, but lacked things like bacon and cheese for the omelette.

Review 26:The staff is very courteous and helpful. The grounds are nice, well-maintained. Good food; very enjoyable dinner by the river.

Review 27:food could be better

Review 28:resort with nice swiming pool, big but empty, old thai design with huge garden, great view on the river, perfect money to value ratio

Review 29:Quite far from the attraction site... need to have own transport... but i think most of the nice resort situated a bit far from attractions..

Review 30:The scenery... the cleanliness... the room and price..

Review 31:The staff is not nice and not helpful at all. THERE'S AN ARMY CAMP ACROSS THE RIVER. YOU CAN HEAR THEM SHOOTING. When we just arrived, I heard some bombings and I asked the ladies in the reception what is this sound, they avoided me.. and it was gone The second day we set to eat breakfast we could hear it clearly. Again, when we asked about where the shooting sound comes from, suddenly nobody knew English. Also. The wifi was not working well and the shower is old, no pressure and cannot fill the bathtub.

Review 32:The resort is very beautiful and peaceful. The pool and the view is amazing.

Review 33:Great hotel at good secluded location on the river Kwae. We enjoyed the *best ever* Thai food here, on the restaurant deck at the river. Staff very friendly.

Review 34:Beutiful setup, great food Rooms are large, comfortable and not too fancy. With such a beutiful out door facilities there is no need to spend any time in the room... The staff are very efficient and friendly

Review 35:No vegetarian options/menu. No bar for drinks in the evening would have been nice as would been nice to have somewhere to socialize.

Review 36:The pool and complimentary towels, Buffett breakfast superb choice. Beautiful resort.

Review 37:Very peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. The pool is great and the setting on the river very picturesque. Not far to the Kwai River Bridge, war cemeteries and musems.

Review 38:Hello to all at Royal river kwai although we only spent one night in the resort I would recommend to any traveller! The location is breath taking relaxing and tranquil... Nature's sounds from the birds gives you the true feeling being in the jungle! I would like to give my thanks to Aimee for helping us plan our 2 day trip from bangkok (sorry we were unable to meet) .... We feel we saw and enjoyed so much of the kanchanburi area we wanted to see... Our guide Chanin and our driver (who's name has slipped our memory ...were so informative and keen to to) ensure our trip was memorable one and it was .... Keep up yr studies Chanin you will qualify as a good guide! To anyone who reads this review we would recommend bridge river kwai trip on death railway to krasae cave .. Elephant ride ...helllfire pass ....very moving place to hear the stories of those who experience their time during WW2 the younger generation mustn't forget . the high light of our trip was Erawan national park we cliimed and saw all 7 levels well worth the hike... We were lucky that day and saw and heard so many things the park had to offer! We only wish we were able to stay a day or two longer. Room OK although it is ready for refurb breakfast OK evening meal was nice and tasty ... Grounds were fab!

Review 39:Kids breakfast not includes with the family .

Review 40:Did not enjoyed as soon with the checking in as soon one of the staff mentioned that the kids 's breakfast is not free but the parent were. I have booked 4 rooms in total. With 8 adults and 2 children (7 and 10 years old)

Review 41:Did not realise the hotel was about 12 km from Kanchanaburi (thought it was about 4 km from the map) and had to get directions but no problem with a car. Wifi homepage would not come up in order to log in - tried all sorts of things and gave up. Despite only 3 rooms let as it is the off-season (there are at least 50 rooms), they allocated me a room upstairs furthest from the pool and dining area. On arrival, I parked quickly across 2 spaces assuming that I would move it closer to my room. I told reception I was going to the museum in an hour. 20 mins after checking in, they rang me twice to park my car properly - a walk of 150m from my furthest room to reception. The parking at the front could accommodate at least 20 cars. How many cars there? Only mine.

Review 42:Beautiful setting on the banks of the River Kwai. Huge pool and extensive well-kept gardens. Reasonable food and drink range (I don't think there is anywhere else to go in the nearby area). Good service in the restaurant.

Review 43:Staff speaks no English. The taxi ride to the city is far to expensive. Not possible to discuss the price. The hotel receptionist tries too hard to sell additional holiday activities. We already arranged our activities and the receptionist wasn't happy about it.

Review 44:Swimming pool

Review 45:Wireless was sporadic. Reception didn't tell me full information on arrival. Some ugly statues in the gardens

Review 46:I stayed three nights susun day to Wednesday and the resort was so wonderfully quiet. Park like landscaping, very nice breakfast and staff eager to help. I highly recommend it

Review 47:Nothing bad to report at all.

Review 48:Good location to get to the River Kwai bridge. Very comfy excellent value for money. Beautiful setting and surroundings. Didn't want to leave. Food at the hotel was 10/10 better than the local restaurants.

Review 49:Rooms would benefit from some comfortable chairs. WIFI a bit hit and miss, you need a new code each day.

Review 50:Good comfortable hotel. Good dinner menu, very good food and reasonably priced for a hotel. Staff very friendly and efficient. Shuttle to town twice a day is a good touch, they will drop you where you want to go. Pool very pleasant and deep, maybe too deep for some.

Review 51:We had trouble being understood by some staff on occasions, I need to improve my Thai language skills.

Review 52:The swimming pool was great, it was so refreshing after a long hot day, and the area around the pool was so clean. The gardens were beautiful and the balconies off of the rooms were a lovely surprise. Breakfast was plentiful with a good selection.

Review 53:The Internet, although available using a code which was available from reception daily, kept dropping its connection.

Review 54:We liked the setting. The grounds were beautifully maintained. The air conditioned rooms were clean and comfortable. The restaurants offered a wide range of foods at all meal times and room service was also available. The staff were always attentive, polite and friendly. Reception offered help and advice booking transport and arranging trips. There were two heated pools, a large pool for bathing and a smaller pool for children to play safely. Whilst all staff were remarkable, we found Ann in the riverside restaurant to be a calmly efficient and attentive waitress.

Review 55:I have sent you an email before about the air conditioning not working and the response we got from the tradespeople that attended . We experienced , and paid for four nights of discomfort and our children were obviously irritable for the suffering of sleeping in such heat. Or lack of sleep should I say.. That ruined their stay. When I did email to you my concerns all your organisation could say was thank you for brining that to our attention we will take it up with the departments concerned. Not professional. When we had to move to another bungalow we reported that the fixtures over the spa bath were not working only to be told that somebody would attend to remedy the problem. Ha ha ha. We paid for six nights to spend four nights in total discomfort.

Review 56:wifi.... poor ....even near reception area

Review 57:beautiful resort....excellent location...by the riverside.... not far from town neat and clean rooms and lovely buffet breakfast with too many choices

Review 58:Water in the pool was dirty and water pumps did not work; very warm water in the pool; water had not been circulating properly.

Review 59:Gardens, size of the pool, views, restaurant

Review 60:A shortage staff that speak English. Wifi no good but I expected that even phone was same.

Review 61:I Liked most everything about resort staff good breakfast good grounds and pool were awesome

Review 62:Wifi weak, they could not make every drink they offer, boat tour on the river not to recommend for elderly people, too small uncomfortable boat for 1500 Baht.

Review 63:Well-trained friendly staff - many english speaking, Breakfast was superb ++ Restaurant quite okey, clean pool in beautiful surroundings

Review 64:Was not impressed with the food. I don't drink alcohol but had a virgin pins colada - it was all ice and filled halfway it was expensive. She I told the waitress she just walked away. Service is not good. Husband had to carry his luggage as everyone was busy

Review 65:The garden was beautiful the room was spacious

Review 66:Slightly hard beds. Wifi limited to only one device per room, and required to get new password from reception each morning.

Review 67:Beautiful well-maintained garden and pool area. Perfect location by River Kwae Yai. A Thai wedding party indicated this is a genuine popular place for local people.

Review 68:The reception staff were not very friendly and they wouldn't take the time to explain places for tourist sightseeing. Although there was a tourism desk in the lobby. It's better to plan the trip ahead of time, including waterfall trips, etc.

Review 69:The resort landscape, the swimming pool and the spa were all amazing. The food was very high quality and tasty! There's a one way free transport to the city twice a day. If you are the only ones on the truck you can ask him to take you to other places rather than the city.

Review 70:The food was decent, but could have been tastier for what it costs. The staff were friendly, but a bit reserved.

Review 71:The room, pool and grounds were wonderful. Also has a very nice spa.

Review 72:Being outside of the town, to visit any of the sights or restaurants need transportation to get to. Hotel room had no hot water in either the shower or the basin.

Review 73:Restaurant is excellent giving a choice of location to eat, either by the river or in the centre of the hotel. The pool is quiet until residents return from their sightseeing trips at about 5pm.

Review 74:Location a bit far from the bridge Kwai. Not very good information. Typically promotion of their own interests and connections. Very bad internet, ok reception. The restaurant below average.

Review 75:Fantastic location by the river and the price was ok.

Review 76:Can't really count on wifi. Only 2 staff members speak English well, the other staff members do try. Mosquites bay (not very strange because you are right next to the river).

Review 77:Resort itself is very beautiful and well maintained. Staff really kind and helpfull. Free taxi service from hotel to downtown or river kwai. Return is 200THB, with the same taxe driver. We arranged a taxi drive us to Erawan national park downtown for 1000THB. Breakfast is very good!

Review 78:The stuff wasn't able to give us informations about trips and possibilities nearby. They even don't have a map for the quests, there is just one map at the reception, we took a photo of it at least. But we got no informations about anything! We came without some plan, didn't know what exactly want to see, because we expected the stuff will recommend us something, but they gave us no advices. Of course, the wifi didn't work the most of the time, it was very very bad, also in the lobby and we were really angry about this, no way to find where should we go and what are the best places to visit! And it was up to 8 or 9km to the city! The resort have a shuttle service twice a day (just to the town, back you need to take a taxi or tuk tuk for about 200 Bahts/2 persons, which is not bad). Food was quite good, but we ate much better and cheaper in restaurants in downtown.

Review 79:Very quite and romantic resort with a beautiful pool and river view.

Review 80:Only 1 channel for English TV which was a very poor reception, & a jumble of parts of movies which were often not shown as a whole & were constantly repeated day after day. You really could not watch the TV, which is a shame as the resort is a little remote & you do find yourself staying in at times. We had 3 rooms & one had a constant smell of drains in the bathroom, which was really unpleasant. The others, which were either side, were fine.

Review 81:The exquisite gardens The polite & friendly staff, who were always accommodating The spacious rooms The peace and quiet The beautiful pool area, leading on to the River Kwai The food The free taxi into town

Review 82:Wifi just didn't work for the whole time there and apparently talking to other guests hadn't while they had been there. When question on the third day it was "a problem in the whole districit" which may have been correct but internet was working well in kanchanaburi 10 k's away....

Review 83:Nice pool area, friendly staff

Review 84:in my eyes one of the best middle class options in Kanchanaburi, beautiflul and quiet riverfront location, good restaurant, worn but well appointed and maintained rooms, excellent AirCon, friendly staff

Review 85:I didn't like to go away...

Review 86:Architecture, design, environment, breakfast... everything was set up with a lot of taste and care. A lot of orchids around you, coconut trees and some exotic plants... and swimming pool in the middle... and Kwae river beside. Unusual harmony... polite staff... excellent breakfast with all kinds of food.

Review 87:10 km from the city... English need to be improved for the staff, wi-fi service is very-very weak Bathroom is ** level.

Review 88:Nice environment, Breakfast is abundant, Rooms are comfortable

Review 89:Was a little disappointed by the lack of English amongst the hotel staff in general. We did expect that the front of house staff at the reception and in the dining areas would be conversant in English but asking for travel advice and tips on places of interest in the area, proved difficult. With that said, the reception staff really tried hard to assist us and were warm, welcoming and very helpful with lots of hand gestures and pointing to maps etc. They even went so far as to phone our tour operator when they failed to collect us etc. and promptly organised us a local taxi to take us to meet the tour, which had departed. No Wi-Fi in bedrooms - needed to be near reception to pick up signal.

Review 90:The most beautiful pool area with lush tropical gardens and a beautiful river front. Lovely dining outdoors next to the river in the evenings. Very nice menu - wasn't just Thai food but offered some European choice. Good value for money. Good breakfast buffet with a terrific selection of foods to eat. Very friendly staff despite the language barrier.

Review 91:Internet was disruptive and its a bit far outside the city, however shuttle service is offered free of charge by the hotel.

Review 92:The rooms are surrounded by a beautifully kept garden at the river. The pool is huge - a perfect place to relax.

Review 93:You need to take a taxi/tuk tuk for 200 THB/one way to go to the city centre. Staff does not speak English well.

Review 94:Swimming pool, breakfast, nice rooms, quiet place. Location is good for having a rest at the swimming pool but not strategic for travelling in the surroundings (Erawan, Hellfire Pass, city centre).

Review 95:-No direction to show reception building from accommodation buildings. No exit sign. - Wifi is limited only for one machine a room and only 24 hours using a time that means quests must go to reception to ask for another password everyday if they stay longer than one day. - Difficult to find hotel location if u drive. -Extra paid bed is totally broken and required new modern one,,,squeaking sound every time sit, get up and move body from left to right.

Review 96:Nice view of riverside. Good wooden Sala or a shelter to recline next to river. Good Spa. Not far from City. It is recommended to visit the hotel during winter time to enjoy pleasant weather nearby River Kwai.

Review 97:The wifi is quite weak in the room but strong enough to search for what to eat and where to go. It might be a little far from some tourist attractions like Erawan waterfall, but not too difficult to travel if you have a car.

Review 98:The atmosphere of the hostel is excellent along the river kwai. The condition of the room is also perfect and is worth the value. Its location is near the city of Kanchanaburi and easy to travel to other tourist attractions by car. The staff is very nice and helpful. Breakfast is also perfect.

Review 99:TV only has Thai channels Wifi was problematical - lots of times unable to log in.

Review 100:Very good restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. For dinner, Thai food excellent, european food just o.k. Nice location just outside Kanchanaburi on the river. Beds very comfortable. Staff extremely helpful.

Review 101:Tea/Coffee making facilities in room or just outside would be nice.

Review 102:Everything about this hotel is relaxing. Had this place been here back in the 40s I doubt the Japanese would have been so harsh on the POWs! I can add this hotel to my personal top 10.

Review 103:Wifi in the room was a bit hit and miss.

Review 104:We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel and our stay was amazing. The hotel is kept immaculately. Everywhere is so clean and the rooms and grounds are constantly being attended to. The pool is huge and a good temperature and we had it to ourselves most of the time. The hotel is about 10 minute drive from Kanchanaburi town centre but there is a free shuttle twice a day at 10:30am and 2:30pm. All the staff are amazingly helpful and always smiled and said sawadee ka / kap. Would definitely recommend it.

Review 105:So far out of any bars or restaurants. We asked if we could hire a motorbike and how much it would be. We were told 500Baht for one day or 200Baht to get a Tuk Tuk to near the bridge. We found tha staff polite but not really interested in giving you a warm welcome or wanting to go that little bit extra. The break fears was ok but nothing to write home about. We moved the next day to a little hotel costing 650Baht, got ourselves a motorbike for 200Baht a day and was amongst all the bars, attractions and restaurants

Review 106:The gardens are nice and are well maintained

Review 107:The beds were a bit hard for my liking.

Review 108:Staff were helpful, large rooms, beautiful grounds and pool. The food is good and not expensive all in a quiet location at the side of the river.

Review 109:Breakfast could have started earlier. Wifi was not good - didn't work in our rooms.

Review 110:I loved this hotel. The landscaping is really nice and I just loved the feeling. Very pretty pool area and the location right on the river is awesome. It is a little distance from town but that was not an issue. Staff was very helpful. Food was good.

Review 111:Too far from town. Beds were hard. Poor wifi. Room very basic

Review 112:Your external garden pool etc are beautiful setting. The staff so helpful and friendly.

Review 113:If they want to attract more western visitors they need to improve on a few areas, more staff need to have better English understanding, yes I know were are in Thailand, but English is a common travel language. Not having tea/coffee faculties available in the room was disappointing, it would be easy enough to lift their rate by a few hundred baht per night to cover any extra cost incurred, I am sure most westerners would not mind the extra room rate?

Review 114:The pool and garden areas are great, as others have mentioned the pool is awesome. Breakfast was changeable, depended on whether there were other Thais staying. Not sure if the resort is marketing to Europeans or Thais? As usual for Asian hotels beds very firm ! They were very helpful in booking and organising shuttles, tours and transfers etc. Thanks to the Manager lady who spoke and understood English, the other reception staff ran away :)

Review 115:It is stated on the reservation. Free! One child under 12 years stays free of charge When using Existing beds. But they wanted payment for an adult if my son would eat breakfast though he is only 8 years old. Saying you on booking has written wrong?

Review 116:The pool!

Review 117:only the shower head was a bit wobbly

Review 118:everything was amazing. the place looks much better in reality than on pictures! worth every penny

Review 119:None

Review 120:Everything

Review 121:All was excellelant thanks.

Review 122:Nothing around at walking distance so preferable to have a car

Review 123:Staff and facilities absolutely beautiful, great value for money

Review 124:None.

Review 125:The well-keep nature around resort. Staff are nice and helpful. Big size of room and balcony.

Review 126:the foods lets this place down.

Review 127:great looking place. friendly staff.

Review 128:Lovely accommodation with a great Thai feel. Amazing breakfast, too much to chose from!

Review 129:Bathroom, too small

Review 130:On river Kwai , nice nature

Review 131:No

Review 132:The boutique hotel and excellent

Review 133:Everything was perfect

Review 134:Water in the small pool (for kids) could be a bit warmer.

Review 135:Staff very friendly. Lovely grounds and pool. restaurant by the river was delightful. wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 136:The Spa and Wi-Fi can be improved

Review 137:Great food at the Royal Restaurant
